The location couldn't be any better, next door to main street and the shops but around the corner so it is quiet. It is not a large space but had every thing we needed and did not feel crowded. Char and Rich were very helpful. The Cave and the Old Jail and Firehouse will be the first place we look when we visit the area again.

Clean, adorable room with lots of thoughtful touches. Great bookstore right down the street. And it's a super quick trip to Pikes Peak, Wyalusing State Park, Effigy Mound Park, and the Casino Queen.

The place was the perfect getaway for my partner I! The lack of running water and wifi made it impossible to do work which was the goal of our little vacation. Great proximity to ice climbing in Wyalusing State Park and Lone Rock!

My boyfriend and I had a great stay at the tack shed. Josh was a great host and had a nice fire going so the cabin was toasty when we arrived. Its such a cozy place with beautiful views. We loved the horses. We definitely plan on going back again.

Really fun! Cowboy coffee made on a hot plate is delicious! But it's not instantaneous. Bring your own coffee if you aren't a Maxwell House lover.  The wood burning stove is incredibly efficient and fun to use!  There is a space heater as well so the shed was perfect for our late arrival.  Bring some shoes that will tolerate short walks across dewy grass to the bathroom.   There is a hint of highway noise in the mornings, after the leaves have fallen.   Maggie’s Diner is just a couple of minutes away, but breakfast was only medium quality.  TMI!  We really loved staying here!!!

The Tack Shed is the best! For any couples considering staying here, it’s *romantic* thanks to the excellent decor, great lighting, wood stove, and overall comfiness. Josh even left a bottle of wine for us, and we got to feed his horse apples!!

We absolutely loved our stay! It was the perfect excuse to unwind in the countryside. We made the cabin a no phone zone and enjoyed playing cards and chatting by the fireplace. The location is great, near several parks for hiking and nature trails. If you want a one of a kind experience, this is the perfect place!

This is a wonderful place to stay and Josh is a very inviting, informative host. Don’t let cold weather deter you— this charming space has a wood burning stove that is sure to keep you nice and toasty. The Shed is a rustic, and restful stop when you just want to get away from it all.

This was the perfect place for a weekend retreat! Each room has a space heater for the winter cold, surprisingly good internet for being in a valley, and our hosts even came in clutch with canola oil so we could fry up some steaks. I travel to NE Iowa pretty frequently and would definitely stay here again!

This A-Frame is a peaceful place for those who want to stop and relax. This a very well maintained space with little touches that make you feel at home. I highly recommend this place!

This is a very nice stay, cozy and sweet. The accommodations are very accurate as advertised. The beds were comfortable and the atmosphere homey and welcoming. Sandy was a great host and was really great about communicating about parking and the challenges with the hill. That said, with the right vehicle it is so worth it to come stay at this cute little place. I loved that as we arrived we saw clear signage that showed us where to park and that we were at the right house. Thoughtful little touches were around as well. I would definitely love to stay here next time I come this way!

Our second time staying here and it did not disappoint. Perfect location for a ‘do nothing’ getaway. Sandy’s place is a delight, we only ventured out for a stroll to the cute downtown and walk along the river. The rest of our time was spent playing board games, reading and drinking old fashions! The perfect spot to unwind for a weekend. Hope to do it again next year.

The A-frame Loft was the perfect place to relax in our trip from Minneapolis to Chicago. The place is so cozy and comfortable and the surrounding nature is great - we really enjoyed our stay :-)

Very pretty view and in the woods

Here is a cozy and uncomplicated place of refuge. Set back from the hub of main street, Matt's place is tucked away and still walk-able to restaurants and pubs. There are shelves of books in almost every room with something for everyone that reads. I plan to make this a regular stay as I come up to hike among the bear effigies.

Great location in town and very spacious rooms and kitchen. Beautiful sunny room off the south side that would be awesome for coffee in the morning! Very convenient and super clean!

The house was so charming! I love old homes and it was a delight to stay here. Very clean with great kitchen amenities. Bring your own spices for cooking. Just a couple minutes walk from Main Street and all the shops. Thanks for a great weekend! Unrelated to the house: If you take the stairway across the street down to Main Street, be careful. I rolled my foot on a broken step. Again, this is not on the property, it's a public stairway across the street.

This home is a real treasure! It is spotlessly clean and welcomes you with a warm cozy feeling from the moment you walk in the door. We arrived to find lights on, the fireplace going and a wonderful homemade coffee cake waiting for us. Tom and Julie are obviously hospitality minded. All communication from them was quick and thorough. Check-in and check-out were simple and all of the house instructions were neatly presented and easy to understand. Located up on a lovely hill and nestled in among the trees, this is a great place to relax and refresh. We will be back!

This very comfortable two bedroom house comes complete with an updated and fully outfitted kitchen, living room and bathroom. It's located in a quiet residential neighborhood on the south side of town.

Ricks place is exactly what you see. It is roomy and overall a very nice and cozy place. Location is beautiful. A lot of hiking and outdoor opportunities nearby! Also, our two dogs really enjoyed it. We would recommend!

We had celebrated Xmas on the weekend so we decided to do something different. Our stay was excellent we spent some time in McGregor/Prairie, Effigy Mounds on Xmas eve. The amenities included everything we needed for Xmas dinner, but not until after 4 mi hike in Yellow River Forest just a few minutes away. It was great to cozy up to a fire with some Xmas cheer. Views are great it was a perfect stay!

The cabin was way nicer than we expected. It had everything e needed. You will be surprised at how spacious and comfortable it is. We absolutely loved our stay.

The best sleep and the most comfortable place in Iowa.

Jennifer's place truly is a charming studio apartment! It was very clean with soft towels and bedding. She is such a thoughtful host - there were snacks waiting for us, plus the weather turned very cold that day, and she had extra blankets and the heat ready for us. She was very responsive, and went out of her way to find out more about the Brush Creek Canyon preserve we planned to visit on our stay. Getting to see and feed Laverne and Shirley was a bonus. We - including our dog-child - felt very comfortable and welcomed - and we want to come back to stay!

This is a lovely place to stay on a quiet street. The house is old style and charming with interesting furniture to compliment the style. The bed was super comfortable and the area was super clean. The hosts live across the street so if you needed something, they were right there; while you still had the place to yourself. Will stay here again since I have family in town.

This is a nice country apartment with a great bed and amenities. Snacks and drinks were provided but limited pots and pans made cooking difficult in the ample kitchen area.

Jennifer’s communication was awesome throughout our entire trip from beginning to end. Her goats are the cutest ever and such a treat. She and her entire family set up in their barn/recreation area for us to watch the Georgia Bulldogs play football because we are huge Georgia fans. We were there for family weekend in Decorah Iowa at Luther College; I was a little worried about the distance but the short drive was well worth it! We will definitely be back many more times as our son is only in his second year at Luther! We really appreciate everything they did for us. We ended up being later than we anticipated on Friday night and they turned on the air condition for us ahead of time and had everything at the perfect temperature for us to come in and go right to sleep. Great stay!!

Wendy greeted us and told us about the house, answered our questions and left a set of great suggestions on what to do in the area. The place is neat and clean with every thing you need. The bedrooms are upstairs while the bathroom is downstairs. A minor inconvenience for us. The stairs to the bedroom are steep. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. We really enjoyed our stay. I am sure you will also.

So much to do in Prairie du Chien and across the bridge in Iowa, and this home was a perfect location for us. You are so close to the historic downtown that you can walk - and everyone downtown was so nice and friendly. You will hear trains on occasion, but they didn't disturb us during sleeping hours. Wendy is more than willing to help out in any way. Enjoy!

Wendy was a great hostess! She met us at the home and gave us the details we needed for our stay. The home was very clean, very comfortable, and very quiet. We enjoyed our stay very much and would stay again if we get back to the area.

Wendy and her husband Charlie were both very welcoming of us into their home this weekend. We sat together and chatted for a while before they left for the weekend and it felt like being at home! We enjoyed being able to cook, have enough space to move around depending on if we wanted to read or watch a movie. The house is very cozy and well taken care of, a place full of love! We are so thankful for our time we got to spend sharing the space while we were on our vacation.

Wendy is an extremely gracious hostess. She has the place done up so beautifully, we really felt at home and welcome. We found the neighborhood secure, safe and quiet.

The house was quite nice. Everything went smoothly, from the preparations via text to our stay. The location was very convenient and the house was comfortable. We had everything we needed. We only used one of the two upstairs bedrooms. The house is near railroad tracks, and you can hear the trains as they pass, but it didn't bother us. We enjoyed a nightcap on the back patio and a cup of morning coffee on the front porch. Overall a good experience.

Perfect place for your family getaway.

The cottage is such a cute place with all your basic needs and then some! We traveled with our 15 month old and one of the rooms has a crib so there was no need for a pack n play. They offered a high chair as well. We really appreciated the little things too, such as plenty of extra linens and pillows, plus warm touches like Christmas decor (we were there over Thanksgiving weekend). We’d absolutely stay again!

My husband and I needed a little weekend getaway and this was a great place for it! We relaxed in the cabin, went on a few walks on the trails, and visited the Casino Queen boat in the nearby town for supper.

I had to cancel due to illness at the last moment, but Deb was awesome to work with and her communication was great!

Me and the wife decided on a whim to go somewhere for New Years and we found this gem of a place. The area is very beautiful and the cabin was perfect. I can’t think of one bad thing about our stay. I would suggest this place to anyone any day.

Beautiful well kept home. Chris and Kathleen are superb hosts and keep the place spick and span for all visitors. It is very spacious, has a good sized table for sharing a meal or games, and a well furnished kitchen for ease of cooking. Added bonus that their garage is for guest use, so I didn't have to scrape frost off of my car. This home is not the most accessible for those with mobility issues; all entrances to the house are up a set of stairs, however then all amenities are on the same level.

All the comforts and convenience of home. Spent 2 weeks there while archery hunting. Wife went along and was very pleased with the rental, while I spent most of my daylight hours out in the cold. Cleanliness was top notch!

Great place to get away for a few days and see the fall colors along the Mississippi! Rochelle and her husband, Mark, met us when we arrived and showed us around everything inside and out, very hospitable and enjoyable to talk with. The house was perfect for our stay, had everything we needed, had a fire in the fireplace in the 3 season room one night, made for a cozy evening. The beds were super comfortable and we slept great and woke up fully rested. Spent some time in and around PrairieDuChien, did a little hiking at Effigy Mounds State Park across the river in Iowa. Cooked a few meals while we were there and had everything we needed. The weather, unfortunately, didn't cooperate, but still had a great time!!

We had an excellent stay at Ann’s Place. The hosts were welcoming, the house was inviting, and the area is beautiful. The house is clean and spacious, lots of room to spread out, even though there was just two of us. It’s a great place to come back to after a day of sight seeing. There is also a very nice fire pit area, as well as a big yard. It’s all very private and quiet. There are apparently two resident eagles on the back property, but unfortunately I only spotted them briefly on our last morning there. Lots of other birds to see and listen to though. :) The area itself is very relaxing and welcoming, lots of small communities and parks to explore. We especially enjoyed Effigy Mounds Park, lots of great hiking and sight seeing opportunities. I would not hesitate to recommend Ann’s Place to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area. Thank you!

Great accommodations for a family to spread out and have space to themselves while still being "cozy" in the living areas. We enjoyed the beautiful new fire pit area, but you need to bring your own wood. The last weekend of September is the opening of Duck Hunting Season...so be prepared for the sound of guns.

Our group loves Dave's place! We've stayed there 3 times and have had wonderful experiences every time. Dave works hard to make sure his place is clean and comfy, with so many great amenities. The kitchen and bathrooms are well-stocked with all of the things you'd have at your own home, the beds are new and very comfy, loads of seating if you have a big group, and it's in a great location near downtown and the river. Renting from Dave has always been a smooth, easy process for us. We can't recommend his place enough!

Dave's house is perfect for a big family or group gathering. Located close to downtown, quiet neighborhood, and lots of room in the house for several guests.

The Bunk House is very cute home!! We were in town for my brothers wedding and had plenty of space for my teenagers to be “teens” and be able to visit with family from another state we’ve not seen in over 15 yrs. You are not going to find a better priced, spacious and homey place to stay in the area. I decide to rent AirBnB/Rental Homes based on 2 things....reviews and owner communication with the host prior to making reservation...both which were top notch!!

What an amazing place for our family bonding for my niece’s wedding! Dave is great to work with and the place has everything you need for a comfortable stay! Highly recommend staying here! Great value for all the Bunk House can accommodate!

The bunk house was a great house! We had 3 families and we had a ton of space. It was close to a park for the kids, close to the restaurants and night life, and close to boat access on the river. We loved it!

Outstanding accommodations for large groups. We needed a place during the week for 5 business people. We all got to claim separate areas of the house for privacy, but was about to cook and eat together too. It was very clean and had a very homey felling. Highly recommend as it was centrally located in Prairie du Chien.

This charming, warm, and homey house in a quaint town was easy to get into, with clear directions. She'd left me notes so I didn't have any questions. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, the decor gently whimsical.. Rebecca served me a delicious egg bake, fruit, and fancy coffee for breakfast. Most importantly, I had a flat tire while there and she knew just who to call to come change it. (Some of the "rescue" dispatchers I called didn't even know where this town was.) She was very kind and helpful. Would recommend her and her place without reservation!

A lovely bed and breakfast in a historic home. Fresh fruits and a delicious hot breakfast dish was served daily. Rooms are on the second floor. The suite has a spacious bathroom just off the hall. The bathroom has a heated tile floor, shower and updated claw foot tub. Beautiful woodwork and wood floors throughout the house. Rebecca was often at home or available by phone. Rebecca is very knowledgeable about the area and it’s history.

Possibly the most relaxing location ever. Strongly recommend for couples to relax and reconnect.. you won’t be disappointed.

Hidden Hallow exceeded or expectations. The pictures don't do this place justice. From the rolling bluffs and the winding creek through the property to the beautiful interior decor, it was such a serene and peaceful escape. The kitchen and bathrooms were stocked with everything you would ever need and there was enough room for a large family and a pup to sprawl out and enjoy time together. It was so nice to end our evenings with a roaring fire and to wake up to hundreds of beautiful birds flitting about the property. The bonus cabin/room out back was equally as beautiful. It was hard to regulate the temperature in that small space, relying on the wood burning stove and the space heaters, but otherwise was a neat experience. Gorgeous hiking opportunities at parks nearby and a charming little town to boot. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway in the driftless.

This was our first stay at Hidden Hollow and definitely won't be our last! It was our family Thanksgiving getaway, and I mean "getaway". We love how private and secluded the place is, so very tranquil. We didn't leave the property the whole time we were there. You can spend a whole day just exploring the land and enjoying nature. Inside the farmhouse is just as relaxing. We had a fire every night and enjoyed reading and playing games together. Hidden Hollow is a hidden "gem" and we would recommend it to anyone looking to get away from the daily grind and just relax.

This is by far the most incredible airbnb I have ever had the pleasure to spend time in. We picked this place because it allowed us to bring out puppy. We could not have been happier. Pam gave very detailed and helpful directions for finding the home and getting checked in which made it a breeze. The small touches are what makes this home so amazing. From the welcome basket, to the luxurious bathtub experience, the fully stocked spice cabinet, the immense amount of firewood and starting supplies for the fireplace, the orange puppy bandana for hiking. We absolutely loved exploring all of the hiking trails. The view from blueberry hill at sunrise was incredible! We can't wait to come back!!!

You will not find a better place to spend a relaxing time than Hidden Hollow. If you want activity and constant things to do, maybe not. But if you are looking for solitude, peaceful and relaxation. This is the place to go

What a wonderful escape from our complicated lives. This is a perfect getaway for anyone wanting to become a part of nature and just relax. We enjoyed the trails through the surrounding forest and the plethora of wildlife. But the inside of the house was just as relaxing as the outside. It was a perfect space for our family to unwind and spend quiet time together.

Staying had Hidden Hollow was extremely easy. Pam was quick to respond to questions, and had easy to follow instructions. The property is beautiful and well kept. My mom and I enjoyed the birds and scenery immensely. It truly felt like this was getaway we were looking for.

Masons listing gives you the feel of being at a ski resort!! You will NOT be disappointed! The home is MUCH MORE SPACIOUS than the photos suggest. The pictures don’t highlight it, but there are two separate bedding areas. The listing is located on a dead end street- and surrounded by other residences- and completely safe. In EVERY room, Mason provides numerous “homely” touches that speak volumes of his thoughts on hospitality! His communication is superb and he responds expeditiously to questions. I had a situation of flight rescheduling and he went beyond expectations to assist me. I travel to Iowa from TEXAS regularly and will definitely be using his lodge again!

Rachel's place was just great for our family!

Rachel’s Place was great. We had a group of 9 and never felt short on space. The kitchen was a great place to cook and folks were able to hang out in the large dinning and living room areas. Very close to Main Street where we held a family gathering. If you have a large group come prepared to utilize the pull out sofas and futon but you really can’t beat the price compared to local hotels for a large group.

Super clean!! And such a great host. We loved staying in this home. The bottle of wine left for us was a super sweet touch:)

We enjoyed our stay at Rachel’s. She provided a warm welcome, clearly laid out her expectations/instructions, and provided thorough information about the local dining, wineries, etc! The house was very clean, warm, and welcoming. Our beds were comfortable, she supplied extra pillows, blankets, towels, you-name-it. This stay was exactly what we wanted. I highly recommend Rachel’s place for comfort, amenities, and more.

Great atmosphere set in house, loved the location as it was close to Douseman House and The Barn as me, my boyfriend and three kids were there for a wedding. Good amount of room for all of us to stay and get ready in. My two teenaged boys loved that there was Playstation and that they were able to access Netflix. My daughter enjoyed the swing in the porch during down time. Rachel was a great host and responded quickly to questions we had throughout our stay, gave suggestions for pizza ideas for my kids for first night we were there and we loved the gift of wine as well as breakfast options if wanted. Would definitely stay there again and recommend the place to others.

Amazing place and location right along the Mississippi River! Such a unique place and history that Char and Richard shared. Everything you could need plus delicious home-made orange cranberry muffins 😊

The place is very unique and charming. It is described accurately, Rich and Char are very nice and make you feel at home.

Rich and Char are wonderful hosts. We had a nice relaxing stay in this charming river town. Anything you need is within walking distance. We always wanted to stay here and so glad we did. The communication was great and the place was homey but with a lot of history. They had alot of little touches like fresh muffins in the fridge and snacks if you needed them. I cannot wait to stay again. If you are wanting a great place to stay look no further!

This is a very clean, comfortable space in a great river town. Everything you could possibly need is provided. The hosts are delightful. Good restaurants and shops in walking distance. We have stayed in quite a few places in this area, and this is by far superior to any. We will definitely return.

Amazing hospitality!! Extremely comfortable, cozy, clean and lots of interesting history. Rich was kind beyond measure when we locked ourselves out. We look forward to another stay some day.

This was a wonderful place to stay. Centrally located in the downtown. The place was very spacious and very welcoming. We truly enjoyed our quick weekend get away and we will be back on our next stay in Elkader.

Clean and spacious!

Exceptionally clean, quiet, and lovely spot in Elkader! The bed was really comfy, and the suite was quite spacious. We appreciated the coffee pot and kettle for tea, as well as the wifi. Plan to stay again next fall!

Rebecca was very flexible in meeting us to check in. Accommodations are very nice and we enjoyed our stay! A great location, immaculately clean, and quite comfortable. I would recommend to anyone visiting. It was close walking distance to most everything in Elkader.
