The place is great. It feels homey. I realy enjoyed my stay and the host is very attentive.

The BEST AirBnB host I have ever met! The sweet couple went above and beyond in accomodating me. From picking me up at the Station to dropping me off to the snowmonkey resort, providing landmark spots and them booking me for my bus for my departure date as i cannot speak japanese. If you ever want to visit the snowmonkey i highly recommend going with this one because they will pick you up and drop you off to the place which will actually save you money and they will also help you beyond their duties as a host. I am truly touch by their kindness. The whole facility is also beautiful <3

Very clean, comfortable space

I had a perfect stay at Mr Shuichi’s guesthouse. The room was clean and in good size. The blankets were warm and the beds were super comfy. The night and morning snow view outside the window was fantastic. Mr Shuichi responded immediately to our questions and offered to pick us up at the station as we did not rent the car. He also drove us to the nearby restaurant and local onsen at night. The sukiyaki place he recommended was amazing and we loved it very much. He also mapped out the detail route of our next destination and drove us to the station, making sure we are in perfect hands with the tickets before leaving. I highly recommend Mr Shuichi’s guesthouse if you are travelling to Nagano. :)

Excellent stay. Very homely feel with Mr Shuichi San and wife taking care of you. Let's start of by reviewing the accommodation. 5 stars for the cleanliness. Very comfortable beds and decent size room. Mr Shuichi San takes care of very small details like making sure that the bathrooms are cleaned again after the previous guest have used it before your use. There were several Japanese travellers, friends, mother daughters, during our stay. I always think that if locals choose to stay, it must be good, and I am right. Mr Shuichi San offered to pick us up at the train station upon our arrival as we did not rent a car. He also offered to drive us straight to the snow monkey park the next morning. Really very thoughtful as getting there by ourselves may not be easy. On the last day as we checked out, Mr Shuichi San even helped us mapped out the detailed travel schedule to Masumoto castle and Daio Wasabi farm, evening planning some time for lunch. Recognizing that we are on a very tight schedule, we couldn't have manage to make the round trip within a day without his detailed planning. Overall a very excellent stay. Can't ask for more.

Perfect place in rural japan with an incredibly hospitable host. Highly recommend

Suichi has a lovely home and he is indeed a lovely host! It's a shame that we did not get to see the snow monkeys in autumn (we studied the webcam for 2 weeks, and not many monkeys came down!) but still, our stay at Kanoka guesthouse was great. Suichi went through all the trouble to plan our plan B trip to Kurobe Gorge and to Shirakawago according to the timetables of 4 different modes of transportation! Tq Suichi!

Shuichi’s guest house was lovely it was sparkling clean and modern. Shuichi was very friendly and so helpful, he picked us up from the train station, dropped us off at the snow monkey park and helped us to know which buses and trains to get to our next location. We would really recommend staying.

Comfortable and welcoming place and host

Yoshirou was friendly and warm. He picked us up from the local station and drove us to the house. He made us tea and we drank it in the lovely common space in front of the fire. Our room was very cute and warmed quickly with the heater. Yoshirou offered to drive us to local onsen and restaurant streets. We chose to walk to the nearest onsen for a bath (5-10min wander). The onsen seemed to be ok for a single point 20cm tattoo but we didn't see an official policy so your mileage might vary. Afterward Yoshirou drove us to around the station where we had dinner. Although the streets were very quiet during the day, at night there were several restaurants open. Hakko was delicious and a little expensive, and D-Line was a lively bar with lots of types of food. When we were finished we wrang Yoshirou and he picked us up quickly. We had a great time.

The host is a very nice person. The station pick-up is very beautiful and will take you to the nearby hot spring and monkey park. Finally, I will pick you up at the park and return to the station.

I like this homestay very much and can experience traditional Japanese rural homes. The landlord Mr. Fang Lang is very friendly! I recommend to all tourists who want to live in Yudanaka! Much liked the place, experiencing the most typical Japanese rural style living! Host Yoshirou San is a really friendly and nice person, I would recommend his place to anyone who wants to stay at Yodanaka for Shiga Kogen and Monkey Park!

The owner is very hospitable, kind, helpful. I met at the station in my car, drove to the monkey park. The rooms are clean, the house is cozy, the wood is heated, you feel at home. We advise everyone to visit this Guest House !!!!

Absolutely the best overall accommodation you could wish for in such a place! An old wooden converted cafe with a log burning fire, incredible value for money for that region.

Access is good. Close to the interchange. If you run a little, there are supermarkets, home improvement stores, family restaurants and convenience stores. The children were very happy. Since it was a season with little snow, I went to Nozawa Onsen. I will arrive in about 20 minutes. Ideal for winter sports.

Quite place in central location to several ski resorts. Host made us feel right at home -remember to take shoes off before you enter the house though

Great access from many nearby ski slopes. Cospa was good, too and was able to spend comfortably.

Iyama city. supermarket. Nozawa On Sense Kijang Accessibility was also good It was a beautiful and nice lodge. The next time you travel to this place, I will visit you unconditionally.

Hidetaka is an excellent host that makes sure the house is ready before you arrive. He will turn on the heater for you before you arrive and also shovel the snow off the doorstep. The place is as seen in the photos and is indeed magical when it snows.

I would suggest hiring a car as there is a bit of a hike to shops and laundro mat as there are no facilities close by. The scenery is amazing and the cabin is in a good location to visit other areas with ease if you wanted too

The buffet dinner and breakfast for six or more people accompanied by Japanese friends will be very good and you can feel the local atmosphere.

We were able to stay with peace of mind with friendly and helpful support. It's a recommended place to get to Nagano and major ski resorts in less than an hour! Thank you very much!

I used it for snowboarding trips with four men in their late 20s. Conclusion, everyone is very satisfied! A gentle couple in their 5s and 60s was running! Here are some good points because they are going to be long. ・ The contact before the reservation was quick, the response was polite and the reservation was smooth. ・ The check-in time could be changed on a case-by-case basis.・ Kitchen supplies are basically large pots, medium pots, frying pans, various dishes, chopsticks, cups etc. ・ If you have something else you want, you can lend it (if you live) ・ Seasoning was also available (check what you have before arrival) ・ The kitchen is relatively large (about 4 adults can taste and enjoy) ・ Is the table for four? There are two (large) types that can be used for various purposes.-The futon is soft and fluffy. It is very simple and gentle.-There is nothing around and it is okay to make sound at a reasonable volume? ・ The stars are beautiful (because there is no light around, you can see them very much) ・ Nagamine Onsen, which is about 10 minutes by car nearby, is old-fashioned and the best (but the shower hot water is almost water) ・ It's wide enough to run a shuttle if you don't have everything on it (I didn't do it) ・ Depends on the negotiations depending on how the sound is used. ・ It is spacious but warms up quickly if you use the stove. There is not much, but there are some troubles! ・ Is the cutting board a little small? ・ One kitchen knife ・ Isn't there a speaker that can be heard with Bluetooth etc.? I'm really thankful to you!

It is a wonderful hotel with rooms, accommodations and prices. It was run by a couple, and was able to respond to messages before check-in and hospitality during their stay. I would also like to stay when I come to this place. Great room! Having great hospitality, clean facility, traditional room.

Even though we ended up having to cancel our stay, Yukihito and Junko were great with communication and making sure we were all set for our trip! Very easy to work with, would recommend :)

We stayed for 3 people, We had a flexible stay with smooth communication such as changing the number of people and check-in time. I would also like to use it if I have the opportunity.

Very special house, in the middle of a mountain. In the back of the house is the highway and entrance of a mountain. Very natural scence and environment. The host and hostess are so nice that offered us very nice and warm support. There is also a very kawaii grandpa who enjoy bowsing Instagram. During the stay, we are also offered delicious local food, homemade cheese and hostess’s original classical music CD! Generally, a very nice stay here, and will definitely come back if I come to Nagano again.

A total of seven friends and family members used the ski trip. The location and facilities of the cottage are almost as described in the listing. Almost everything we needed was clean and the heating was warm without any problems (we bring bath towels, paper towels and tissue). The fact that the entrance and clog box space is large, and that we could store the skis and snow boots for the number of people with plenty of space was saved. We had you explain very carefully at the time of check-in and were saved. It looks good in summer, so I would like to use it again with my family.

Host waited for us to arrive at around 9pm to help out with the check in. Very patient with helping out on queries. Very friendly too. Huge place.

Great 20min drive to Nozawa Onsen and can do late check in until 11PM

We arrived hungry assuming there was a store within walking distance and when we found out it was much farther than expected, Hidetaka was so kind to offer my friends and I a ride to the store. Great place with a beautiful view of the mountains. Overall 10 stars.

The host is really friendly and speak English well. He provides useful information. The entire house is private. The place is quite spacious for 5 big luggages. The bedrooms are spacious and providing a lot of bedding equipments, so we feel very comfy to sleep. Need a car to get around

There is no washing machine, but it is a beautiful small log house. I used it to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy snowboarding. If you ask for local information, you can tell me anything.

Mr. Yoshirou is one of, if not, the best hosts I have ever been allowed to stay with. He was kind enough to pick up me and my friends from the train station, give us a ride back for the onsen (which was also spectacular and extremely affordable), and in the morning he even made us breakfast (for a small charge that he OFFERS once you check in). The breakfast itself was absolutely astounding and beyond worth the price we paid. To top that off he was so very kind and gave us so many tips about the area. I would happily stay with Yoshirou again the next time I come visit Nagano or Japan in general. Thank you very much!

Wow there are so many good things to say about Yoshirou's place!! I was blown away by how wonderful his hospitality was and how great the space was! Yoshirou went above and beyond, you won't regret staying here. First, Yoshirou was kind enough to pick us up from Yudanaka station late at night (when the last train of the day ran). The room was spacious and clean with a heater (Yoshirou also provides heated water bottles that goes at the foot of the futon) since it does get chilly at night. There is a private toilet and sink but no shower. However, Yoshirou does provide drop off and pick up for 2 onsens that are close by. We really enjoyed Kaede No Yu! Please try Yoshirou's great breakfast! For 800 yen, it is a steal, delicious, and varied! Along with the meal, he offers water, hot green tea, and hot coffee. One of our breakfasts included fruits, udon, pickled radish, and salad. Another breakfast included tempura/rice, miso soup, and fruit. We mentioned to Yoshirou about wanting to see the cherry blossoms, and he gave us a fantastic recommendation at Garyu Park in Suzaka city (easy to get to via train and a few stations away from Yudanaka station). On the morning of check out, I was running late but Yoshirou was very kind and drove us to Yudanaka station as quickly as he could and helped us with carrying luggage to the train. Overall, he is a fantastic host with a great space and recommendations and would do anything to make your stay comfortable!! Highly recommend!! Thank you for a good time in Nagano Yoshirou!!! We will definitely come back next time we are in Japan!

Yoshirou is the sweetest! He will pick you up/drop you off anywhere you need to go. Definitely pay the small cost for breakfast, it's a delicious feast! He gave us a good recommendation of when we should specifically see the monkeys and go to onsen and it worked out lovely! It was a bit difficult to communicate but we used translate app and were able to find out a bit about each other too :) we really loved our stay here. The futons were comfortable and the beds were warm even though it was snowing! Yoshirou was responsive and would pick us up within ten minutes from letting him know we were ready for a ride.

It’s one of the best places we’re we have been. It’s so beautiful! You can go to the snow monkeys and also go skiing or boarding. The only thing is you don’t have a shower in the room. You have to go to a onsen, but it’s ok.

Honami Kaido Guesthouse was our favourite accomodation in Japan. Yoshirou is an excellent host and sitting by the log fire, drinking hot chocolate, with views to the snow capped mountains, was pretty hard to beat. It was a much more personalised experience of Japan and one we loved. It is a long walk into Yudanaka but this is no problem as Yoshirou was happy to give us a lift to the onsen, the train station and even snow monkey park. It was great as we were able to be there before the crowds. There is no shower at Yoshiro's but the onsen in town is a great experience and the locals were so friendly that we were glad the hostel didn't have a shower. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Yoshirou's and we would definitely make an effort to stay again should we return to Japan. Thanks Yoshirou for your kindness and efforts to overcome the language barrier!

My family really enjoyed our stay here. We live in Japan and so didn't expect to be wowed by the food, but the food truly is exceptional. We have dietary restrictions and are very grateful that the hosts accommodated us. Having meals prepared for us made for a really relaxing trip. We usually go to Nagano by car. Because the hosts pick us up and drop us off we were grateful to be able to visit this area without having to drive. We also enjoyed meeting other guests in the dining area. The area is great for visiting Nozawa Onsen, skiing and the snow monkeys. My kids are already asking to go back. We hope to visit again for beetle hunting in the summer.

My stay and trip with Yoshi-San was exceptionally better than I would have ever imagined. He is not your typical Air b&b host where you rarely see your host. Yoshi-San will pick you up, make you breakfast and dinner, and double checks your schedule for the rest of your stay— that way he can schedule out a timeline of when to take you to the station and when/where to pick you up. You can tell that Yoshi-San has done this professionally for quite some time. It’s not only him of course, his wife will pop up here and there and help make the breakfast and dinner for us. Their food is definitely 5 star restaurant quality. Yoshi-san is very humble and I thought his English was good enough for me to have a fun conversation with him. I had no problem communicating with him and we understood each other quite well. As for lodging, I couldn’t complain at all. We had a beautiful, snow filled view of the mountains and trees. We had 2 beds for 2 people. A private toilet and electric heater for the room. We are from Okinawa and it wasn’t as cold as I thought it would be in the rooms/house. You will not regret booking a stay at Yoshi-Sans home. I highly recommend his place!

Mr Yoshihiro and his family are kind and helpful. He is one of the best host in airbnb. We enjoy our time in his house. Mr Yoshihiro picked up us in JR station and take us to go Ski center and Onsen. Look no further and book now!!! Yoshihiro's place exceeded all of my expectations and staying with him and his family was one of the highlights of my trip! I was visiting to snowboard at Nozawaonsen and Yoshihiro helped me to get on the shuttle daily and gave me a ride to a local onsen at night. His recommendations were spot on and provided me with a unique experience. Also, his cooking was exceptional!!! A restaurant quality experience at home! His communication, service, cooking and knowledge of the local area were top notch. I would absolutely stay with his family again and give him my highest recommendation!

Amazing value for money, Yoshihiro and his wife made our stay in Iiyama seamless and unforgetable. Both the breakfast and dinner services were spectacular, every meal was made up of a minimum of 4 delicious hand made dishes prepared with care and experience . His house was cosy and warm, beds were comfotable and the local knowledge he shared was vital for getting the most out of Iiyama. Even if you aren't in the area, I highly recommend going out of your way to stay a few nights with Yoshihiro, it will be worth it.

Yoshihiro san and Rieko san went above and beyond for us. We were welcomed so warmly into their lovely home and served dinner on entry after a long train ride which was just what we felt like! Yoshihiro san helped us organise how to get to Nozawa Onsen for snowboarding and gave us rides to and from the bus stop and the local outdoor onsen. We feel very fortunate to have met Yoshihiro san and Rieko san and we will definitely be back for a longer stay! Chicca’s place is an awesome spot to stay in especially if you’re looking to ski in the Nagano area. The house is cozy and the meals provided by Chicca are great! Definitely recommend checking out the nearby outdoor onsen too. Thank you for your hospitality and sharing you home with us!

It is right in the bustling city of Obuse. We used the second floor, but we were able to spend time relaxedly in a beautiful large room. A range, oven and refrigerator are available, and we enjoyed delicious local delicacies from Super Tsuruya! I want to go again in the warm season!

Koishiya ryokan is a really nice place, the room was beautiful and I had a great time going to the 9 onsen. The staff was wonderful, picking me up when I came in and getting me to the station with my luggage when I left.

Such a wonderful little (yet surprisingly big) place to stay if your headed skiing or, like us, to see the snow monkeys. The setting is absolutely stunning and the guys here go above and beyond to help. The rooms are spotless and cosy, we had never slept on a futon before but it was such a nice experience - the idiot proof instructions make it easy to set up. The restaurant / cafe area has a great social feel and the food was amazing. I would highly recommend walking from the station to the Ryoken as there is so much beauty in the area. We visited the private onsen as it came recommended and it was so worth it! Thank you so much for our night away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities.

This is a very cute house. Although the toilet and bathroom are shared, they are not crowded at all. The open-air wind is so beautiful. Although it is not in the house, it is very convenient to have a car to pick it up. The food in the restaurant is delicious. The reception staff at the front desk are so cute. They can speak English and Chinese in simple Chinese and Japanese. It is a good place to recommend to friends!

It’s very nice there. The shuttle service is perfect, restaurant, free Onsons, one private Onson (500¥), nice communication.. the room is a bit cold but it’s normal in this traditional houses.

Andi's Ryokan is amazing! We stayed for two nights. During the day Ando dropped us at the station to go and see the snow monkeys, with great instructions. Then he picked us up later on. It was so easy! The onsen was lovely, and he was happy to book a private session for us. As two of the onsens were closed for repairs we visited the public onsen next door, a wonderful view into local Japanese life. The food was delicious, although I the notification of my (minor) allergy wasn't understood, so be aware to triple check! Otherwise it was great! We had such a lovely time and Ando was so helpful! We'll be back!

Great service with drivers and incredible food

The quality of this Japanese style is second to none, from the moment we arrived to the morning we left the quality of service was terrific. Although there on hot spring bath was being repaired on the first day, we were provided entry into the public bath right next door. The quality of the traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner and was exceptional, breakfast was also very good. The traditional Japanese style room was quite large and very comfortable and the beds were laid out whilst we were at dinner. If you want to experience traditional Japanese hospitality, quality accommodation in a idyllic location and where your every need is taken care of I would highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed.

We loved our stay at Ryokan Warobino. The staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable. Pro’s:The ryokan is situated in the countryside outside of Nagano. There are 4 onsens on the property. There is a private one that you can rent by the hour. There’s a super cute ski hill 20 min away. Con’s: That we couldn’t stay longer. Thanks again!!

If you are looking for an authentic ryokan experience away from tourists, book this place immediately. The complimentary shuttle was a huge plus, it is a bit of a trip out going from Nagano station on the local line to the station where the host picks you up, but totally worth it. The inn keepers will also bring you back and forth from the station that takes you to see the snow monkeys if you want but the times are limited to their regular shuttle schedule (10AM out of inn, 4 or 4:30 pick ups at station). Definitely make time for a dinner and breakfast as part of your stay, the cost is extra but you get a unique and thoughtfully prepared meal. The private onsen looking over the mountain is an unforgettable experience. We cannot recommend this experience enough!

I had a great stay!

Great hostel! Provides mixed dorms as well as private rooms, has a bar with electronic darts, a nice cozy lounge area, and they also offer breakfast and lunch service. Really conveniently location if you are planning on visiting Snow Monkey Park or the nearby mountains. The staff all speak great English which made checking in a breeze. Would definitely recommend if you are traveling through the area.

I usually avoid hostels, but in this area it's hard to get something private unless you want to spend lots of money for a hotel. Surprisingly, it was good. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was in a 16 people dormitory, but on both nights just shared the room with one person. Only downside is the room temperature in winter. The heater goes off after 3 hours, so you'll wake up in a freezing room.

Wonderful place! It's so full of character and charm, I definitely want to come back next time I'm in Nakano. ❤ Note for future travelers, because of the building's age, it's a bit chilly in winter. Dont be like me and forget to pack super warm sleep/lounge wear! 😅

Great location, nice hosts, tasty breakfast and beautiful temple.We will definitely come back for a stay here whenever we are near Kusatsu. It was a beautiful temple 7 minutes walk from the center of the hot spring and the location was good and it was easy to access sightseeing spots. We had a gentle message before the trip, had a guidebook, and had breakfast, good bread and hot drinks. I also want to stay again when I have the opportunity to go to Kusatsu. Thank you very much.

As you can see, it is a very comfortable place to stay. The hot springs are small but can be used for rent slowly, and the location is very convenient. Breakfast is easy, but you can be satisfied with the delicious bread. Room was small, but we could spend warm even in the middle of winter because kotatsu and oil fan heater were placed. It is an inn you want to visit if you want to enjoy the hot spring and come to Kusatsu. I also want to stay at the next opportunity.

Tomoyo-san’s house is located a little outside of the center of Kusatsu, which was nice because it was quite peaceful. It’s within a lovely local temple’s grounds. The room was absolutely wonderful. I went in winter and there was both a kotatsu as well as a space heater (quite necessary since there is no central heating in most Japanese homes). The futon was also very comfortable. Everything was clean and Tomoyo-san was always available to answer questions (either by message or in person). Would absolutely recommend if you’re looking for a (very) affordable place to stay in Kusatsu!

The place is amazing!! It’s a traditional Japanese house which has everything you need. There was really good breads and coffee/tea for breakfast. The host was lovely. We really enjoyed. We will definitely stay there next time when we come back.

Tomoyo-san’s place is a great place to stay in kusatsu especially if you’re looking for traditional japanese style housing and are looking to save money. The temple is so unique and extremely close to the yubatake. The futons were so comfortable and we especially loved the toasty kotatsu. Tomoyo-san also provided us a light breakfast which was so thoughtful!

It was the second time, but Yubatake was also close and I was able to spend a quiet time! Thank you very much!

Tomo-san and her husband are gentle people. They prepared breakfast and sent me back to the station by car. The hot spring bath was comfortable.

Tomoyo's house is the best address you can find in Kusatsu Onsen! It is very well located, of course, but what makes the difference is Tomoyo and his family, kind and generous, who take great care of their guests! You can for example enjoy a breakfast each morning in your spacious and traditional room ... and you can count on your hosts to provide you with the best local addresses! Thanks again for everything Tomoyo!

The location was good and it was easy to go to the outside bath, but the private bath of the inn was also comfortable in the hot spring. The kotatsu in the room was also the best. Breakfast and coffee were prepared and it was very helpful. The feeling of distance that did not interfere so much was just right. I want to use it again when visiting Kusatsu.

Check in this listing for the second time, and I will probably go there again in the future. The location is very good, a five minute walk from Kusatsu Yuda, which is much cheaper than other hot spring hotels. Kusatsu Nikkei Onsen can be enjoyed, which is great. There is also Baigen Shrine next to it. The listing itself is the side building of Rikang Temple. The male lead is a mage and the house is legendary. The facilities are also good. Kusatsu's acid hot springs are directly entered into the home, but it is estimated that this resource will not be very useful if you go to Yutian. Remember to take a bottle before taking it. There is free parking, the breakfast is a little humble and there are some small breads. Kusatsu Japan's No.1 Hot Spring, Ri Akoji Temple is very cost-effective /

Great place to go ! simple and comfort !

This place was honestly much better than I expected for the price. It's clean, stylish, and helpful in many ways. Something that surprised me is that the ceiling in the bunk is higher than the one in my loft back in Kawasaki! For a 183cm man, it is very comfortable. I have already recommended it to some friends for their stay in Nagano soon!

Great place to stay, clean and well placed

It was a nice stay. Other guests were loud at night, and you can hear everything, but that it was not really a deal breaker. Location is very very close to a major train station and cool shops, and the beds were comfy. You get free drinks too, which is awesome.

Very good location with a bus stop right in front of Nagano station. There is a light, a power outlet, and a usb outlet each in a bed space like a capsule hotel, so charging is not a problem. There is also a dial-type valuable locker. However, dormitory people may be worried about other people's snoring, but I was fine ... The shower room has a mirror, wash basin and dryer in the dressing room of the private room, and there is a separate large mirror and wash basin. The free drink coffee at the cafe on the first floor was organic and delicious. Wi-Fi was fast and comfortable.

It was in a very quiet mountain and the snow scene from the window was awesome! The room was also clean, and the futon was very warm and happy, although it cooled down at night. I want to come to play again.

Although it was delayed from the check-in time that was initially reported due to traffic congestion, and other inconveniences, it was very kind. The place is a bit difficult to understand, but it was okay because it was not so far from the hot springs and it gave me directions carefully. Thank you for all the help you have given me.

The location was close to Kusatsu Onsen and the surroundings of the building were quiet and relaxing. It was a winter stay, but it was comfortable without any inconvenience due to the well-equipped facilities. The host was very kind and was very helpful to share detailed information about the surrounding facilities and area. It is a wonderful trip and I am very satisfied.

You can have a barbecue, a detailed explanation of the hot spring town, and a delicious rice shop. We responded politely and would like to use it if you have the opportunity.

A very good uncle! There is an electric futon and a kerosene stove so you can get warm in the room. It takes about 15 minutes by car from the center of Kusatsu Onsen. Since the inn is a villa area, there is nothing around it, but since I went by car, I do not feel inconvenience or much, I think that it is good overall.

This was our second year staying with Chicca-San and Rietan-San, and we hope to continue to visit every winter after this one! We stumbled upon this Airbnb by accident last year, but have since sent friends and recommended a stay to anyone who will listen. Chicca and Rietan are two of the most lovely humans you will ever meet! They go out of their way to pick you up from the train station, get you to the bus stop on time, take you to try most magical outdoor onsen and of course, serve you absolutely incredible meals in their mountain home. If you want a truly memorable Japan experience, look no further! We came to ski both years, but we’re hoping to return for cherry blossom or beetle hunting season (yes that’s apparently a thing) soon! Thank you again Chicca and Rietan!

Our stay with Yoshihiro and Reiko was the best experience either of us have ever had with an AirBnB! Their warm hospitality, helpfulness and exceptional home cooked meals made our time in the mountains unforgettable. The breakfast and dinner provided was 5-star restaurant quality, better than most food you will find in Japan. I cannot reccomend this stay highly enough! If you are looking to stay in the area to visit Nozawaonsen, the snow monkeys, amazing local onsens or hunt for beetles in the summer definitely stay at Yoshihiro's!

Yoshihiro and Rieko are wonderful, kind, and such accommodating hosts! If you would like to understand the area and it’s culture, see a piece of Japan that is beautiful and unique, then this is the place for you. The food is delicious, the beds are comfy, and we haven’t slept that well in all of our travels! Easy communication, check-in, and assistance with organising your itinerary around the area. This is by far the most amazing Airbnb and B&B experience we have ever had. Yoshihiro and Reiko are the most fabulous hosts. They drove our group of seven to and from their local onsen, ski slopes, and train station. They also organised ski lessons and gear for us at a very reasonable price. Breakfasts and dinners were delicious and plentiful. We enjoyed the variety served and it was such a treat to have delectable meals prepared by Yoshihiro who is a trained chef. Regretfully, we only stayed for two nights. We will return (hopefully soon) and the next time, it will be at least for a week of pampering by Yoshihiro and Reiko!

Kohei’s Airbnb is an absolute gem and is by far the best Airbnb experience that I have ever had. It was perfect for a weekend getaway in an absolutely beautiful location, being situated right next to a gorgeous temple which has an original Hokusai work inside. Kohei was an incredibly generous and accommodating host who went above and beyond to ensure that we had everything we needed. The room was very comfortable and while the building can get a little cold we were provided with heaters which kept our room nice and warm! Overall we were all very satisfied with our experience at this Airbnb and if I am ever back in the area I will definitely stay here again.

Cute decor, artworks and notes around the place. It feels cosy and friendly, both the hostel itself and the staff. It's not large, but it doesn't need to be, it's enough as it is. Bigger might mean more people and then it might feel less like a home. I'd stay there again and recommend to friends.

Good hostel just close to the temple.

It is a small traditional house converted into a hostel, with its limitations. The spaces are small and there is only one bathroom and one shower for the entire hostel. Dream to hear the noises of the other rooms. We stayed in this room for two people and although we knew it was small, we managed and were comfortable in general. The staff was very friendly at all times and resolved all doubts in perfect English. In addition the location is unbeatable.

This place was really cozy and the architecture is beautiful, old, and very traditional. Because it’s a bit old, it’s easy to hear a group staying next to you so be sure to bring ear plugs :). The location is really great, the place is clean, and check in was fast and friendly with a little map that shows you some things you can do in the area. It’s nice to be able to leave your bags even after you have checked out.

The hostel is in a nice area of Nagano. The Zenkoji Temple is right next door and there is a train from the station, otherwise it is only a 20 minute walk. The house is traditional Japanese and we really liked it. The bathroom and kitchen were very clean despite some of them (the cleanest I've ever seen in the hostel). The old construction can make it louder, but that didn't bother us. The staff were friendly and helped well, so that we could store our luggage before we checked in. The room is more than adequate and the bed was comfortable. All in all we can recommend Nao's accommodation to everyone and would come back anytime.

This was the perfect spot to stay and relax for my 2 days in Shibu Onsen. Aki and his family are impeccable hosts - always willing to help and give advice. The room was warm, and their onsen baths are very nice and clean. I can also highly recommend the meals there. Although the dinner seems pricey, it's the right price for what you get considering Japanese prices, and the breakfast is excellent. Altogether an awesome stay!!!

Staying here was a highlight of our trip! The staff were all very friendly, the meals were great, and the rooms were comfortable in winter. We also really enjoyed the onsen. The host offered to drive us to snow monkey park and the station, but we decided to walk to explore the town. Everything is in walking distance, which was nice.

Akira and Uniko were exceptional hosts. This authentic Ryokan Experience of Japanese culture was so worth it. We had a very nice traditional meal at a local restaurant just a few doors away but if you do stay here you absolutely should book and enjoy a dinner and a breakfast. They were amazing. The Onsen was a welcome treat at the end of the day. Akira was generous to pick us up and drop us back the the railway station as well as take us to the Snow Monkeys. We could not recommend this more highly. 5+ stars

Located in the corner of the pension village, it was a very cool place near the ski resort and Akakura Onsen. They were run by a couple and they were both friendly. I was happy that the breakfast was handmade. I stayed in a twin room and there were other rooms with bunk beds, so it seems to be good for families. It was a wonderful summer vacation trip!

Have been coming to Japan for the snow almost every year and Yu-San and Shige-San's hospitality is amazing even for the already high Japanese standards. Have stayed at 10+ ski lodge pension type accommodation in Japan, and this is heads above them all. You won't be disappointed.

This place is amazing! We stayed 2 nights and it felt like home away from home :) Yu-San & Shige-San are lovely people, they were so welcoming and always had a smile. They helped us a lot, Yu-San picked us up from the train station and brought us to the ski ground, he even helped us with the rentals of snowboard & wear. We were also given discount lift passes. Shige-San's cooking is delicious, the breakfast was great and we enjoyed sukiyaki a lot. We will definitely stay with them again, if we ever get the chance to visit myoko-kogen again. Stay at their home, you'll love them!

It is perfect. It is the best place I have lived in Japan. The owner's intentions can be seen in every corner of the house. Come skiing and have a home-made drying room. The host is very enthusiastic and happy to chat with him. I will stay here next time I come here!

Staying at this guest house in Iiyama was a very enjoyable experience, and probably the most accommodating experience we've had on our trip to Japan. As well as being such welcoming people, the guesthouse was a lovely Japanese style, with great amenities, and it was clean and comfortable! Toshi and Kiyomi made every effort to make us feel welcome, suggesting great activities such as paper making, and hikes, as well as taking us to the local onsen. Beautiful home, immaculate, fabulous breakfast. Toshi and Kiyomi were very generous with their time in telling us about Iiyama and Nagano Prefecture, and bringing us back and forth from town. We talked about gardening and Toshi sent us away with several white bitter melon seeds for Montreal gardening. Kiyomi sent us away with a lovely wash bookmark. Kind, generous hosts!

I miss words to say how grateful I am to have had the chance to meet Kiyomi and Toshi! I went to Iiyama for 2 days with two of my cousins and we really had a blast! I hightly recommend anyone this Guest House. You will feel the hosts' warmness at every moment of your stay. Even if sometimes the language barrier can be difficult the hosts are doing their best to make you feel comfortable and to let you enjoy the most of you stay by recommending local restaurants, museums, artcarft activities, onsen in the mountains... Their offer tons of extra services that will definitely make you stay one of the best experience you can have in Japan!

Kiyomi and Toshikazu are very nice host. They can advice you all the local places to go. They pick you up at Iiyama station. They can propose you tour to go to see the snow monkeys and amzing onsen in the mountains... I spent a very nice moment with them. I strongly recommand them and their house.

I think it's a place where you can learn about your activities. New values were born. Once you go there, you will want to come back.

Friendly and helpful host that answered all my questions and gave good advice even before my arrival and helped me get discount tickets to the ski resort. Speaking of which there are more than several ski resorts that are all within 20 minutes drive in snowy winter conditions. The lodge being situated right in front of a lake, the view from the room was spectacular and provided a very comfortable place to rest after a long day of snowboarding. Definitely recommend this place if you’re looking to base your adventures in the nearby area. You won’t regret it.

We had a great stay, Ted and Stephen are really helpful and accommodating. They helped us get to the ski slopes and train station and offered useful tips. The location is great if you like to stay somewhere very relaxed. There were limited restaurants and the convenience store was a decent walk but this didn't bother us.

What to expect is a great location right on the lake with beautiful views of the mountains and lake, close to a bunch of lifts at 3 or 4 different resorts, amazing shrines, snow monkeys, great food, traditional Japanese style rooms or western style room. And that is just the start. Ted and Stephen make a great team and are two of the nicest, most accommodating hosts we have ever met. They create an atmosphere that is inviting and brings everyone together. If I listed all the things they did for us and other guests during our stay I would have to write a book. We went in the winter time to ski/board but this location would be absolutely amazing year round. Highly recommend! Bill and Bryan

It's a pretty good trip

This stay really could not have been any better, aside from a fabulous location at the base of a range of mountains overlooking a stunning lake, we were blessed with 2 extraordinary hosts Ted and Stephen who truly are the most kind, welcoming people that give you so much time and generosity it is remarkable. My sons felt very welcome, particularly when my oldest was lent a seriously cool pair of ski pants for skiing. Because of Ted and Stephen, we were ferried to and fro from the station, to the ski fields where Ted gave my sons lessons in skiing( extraordinarily kind) ,found and booked AND translated by Stephen the most amazing day with a blacksmith who makes beautiful knives, hiked with us to a well known waterfall in the National Park ( Stephen again!) and drove us to a small village where we could hike to a famous shrine that took us through some of the most beautiful snow filled countryside we have ever seen. Thanks to Ted! I cannot say enough about this stay, the beauty, the experiences and the wonderful hosts. Thankyou so much.

A home away from home! A perfect place to experience staying with a local family and having delicious meals on a daily basis. My children said staying at Chica-San place was the highlight of our trip (it wasnt Disneyland!). Chica San and Deiko San were great hosts and made us feel comfortable from the day we arrived until the day we left. The meals prepared by Chica San was amazing, we just could not wait for meal time. Rooms were comfortable and we had good sleep every night. There is a an area outside the house for the children to play sledges and snow. Highly recommende for families!

Yoshihiro-san is a great host. The rooms are simple but very clean and there is everything you need. The house is very cozy. In the dining room there is also a play area with blue blocks and a small table football for the children. With the super delicious breakfast and dinner there are also good excursion tips for the area. Yoshihiro-san's accommodation is definitely worth a stay. When we get back to the area, we will definitely stay with Yoshihiro-san.

The info on Airbnb is accurate so you know what to expect. The house is clean, food is good and plentiful and the hosts are very accommodating. I really enjoyed my stay with Yoshihiro san and his lovely wife and thoroughly recommend staying here if you find yourself in the Iiyama area. The best thing I can say is that I felt like I was visiting a friends house rather than staying at an Airbnb. The hosts are friendly and always trying to give you more to eat or drink, will plan mealtimes around your schedule and provide assistance/info for the places you want to go.

Yoshihiro san and Rieko san were exceptional hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. The quality and variation of the meals were beyond expectations even though previous guests had raved about it. Yoshihiro ensured that we were fed and delivered to the local bus each morning to travel to Nozawa for skiing and on our return from the slopes he always promptly collected us from the bus to transport us to his welcoming home of warmth, delicious meals, and hot shower/bath. It was never too much inconvenience for him to take us to the outside onsen near his home or to the grocery store for supplies. We would not hesitate to stay with Yoshihiro san and Rieko san again in the future and can only highly recommend their place to people who appreciate Japanese hospitality at its best.

I believe like 99% of the guests who leave positive reviews for Yoshihiro-san, the majority agrees that the homemade meal he prepared for us are really restaurant standard and it’s makes us looking forward for meal times when we come back from our activities. He tries to arrange for pick up and drop offs which can accommodate the staying guests and everyone is more than willing to adjust their timing accordingly. It’s my first trip to Japan and Yoshihiro-san set the bar really high. Iiyama is a good place to go to and fro from Nagano/Nozawa Onsen etc. Would definitely book here again for trips back

Tomoyo-san is very hospitable. I enjoyed my stay tremendously. Drink sachets and a simple breakfast is provided. For me, the best feature is the private bath, if you do not wish to go to public onsen.

It is a house in a temple, about 5 minutes on foot from Yubatake. The host was quick and helpful, the amenities were fine, and the bread was served for breakfast. There are also kotatsu in the room, so it is recommended for those who like Japanese rooms with a focus on cospa!

Friendly and comfortable space, both Suzie and Toru speak English very well and have great tips for whatever you want to see and do in their area. Walking distance to a great restaurant, the Farmhouse, and onsen, Waku Waku, and of course, the snow monkeys. As close as you can get to all of these and the popular ski hills; you will have to drive about 45 mins to the ski hills (snow tires or chains needed as you climb the hill, we did ok in a kei car with snow tires, but saw many vehicles stuck on the way up) or take a bus that runs pretty regularly and picks up right by their place. We stayed in a Japanese style room which was elegantly simple, wide and cozy. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies, tea and coffee. Would recommend bringing food if you wanted to make meals, but they had some staples available and some extra items for sale like chips, pasta and beans if you needed on the fly for a few yen.

We had such a great stay here! Suzie and Toru are great hosts: fun to chat to, and very helpful with providing local tips and helping you get around. The house is comfortable and in a perfect location for Shiga Kogen. We will definitely be back one day :)

A nice 10 minute walk to restaurants and the Shiga Kogen brewery and 40 minutes to the Snow Monkeys! The view from our bedroom was EPIC! Free parking, free coffee, free apples and great company! If you are visiting this area of Japan to enjoy the amazing snow conditions, this is your place! The location to access Shiga Kogen is just perfect. You have a bus 3 minutes walking from home towards to the different ski resorts. Really convenient. The Snow Monkey Park is also very close as you can walk from home. The house is very welcoming, the services in general are great, specially breakfast which was a nice surprise for us. The only point is that, due to the great location, the room may be a little noisy as the road is just in front. We heard the snow machines since early morning (which was a great signal by the way ☺️). We would recommend this place for sure and we would stay again if we have the chance to visit Japan in the future. Thank you Suzie and Toru!

The host is very kind and offers to drive you/pick you up up to three different times a day. Breakfast was not available to us (unfortunately) but I think that was because the markets were closed for New Years. The place is very cozy and the rooms are large. Just be prepared to sleep on the floor! The mat was surprisingly comfortable and he provides many blankets. It was a great experience and we recommend it to everyone!

Yoshirou-san is the embodiment of true Japanese hospitality! He loves to make sure you're taken care of and will treat you like family. I slept on a Japanese futon on tatami flooring in a traditional Japanese-style room. And I've got to say it felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. A very effective space heater is provided to quickly heat up the room when in use. The toilet room is located out in the lobby area and is clean and has bidet functions as well. He has a shower room somewhere else on-site (which I never personally asked to use since you absolutely must take advantage of the hot spring baths in town!) The lobby is spacious and comfortable and a great place to hang out. One thing to take advantage of is Yoshirou-san's gourmet breakfasts which are totally worth the completely reasonable extra cost. His meals are nutritionally balanced, large in portion size, and mouthwateringly delicious. You will not (and I mean this) find a better breakfast anywhere in Japan! You must taste his cooking! Because the guesthouse is located a bit of a walk from the town center, Yoshirou-san offers pick-up and drop-off service for a limited number of times per day which will give you more time to explore. Also note that there is a notable language barrier since English isn't Yoshirou-san's forte, but bring along Google Translate and you'll make it just fine. All in all, I definitely will be back to live with Yoshirou-san in the future if I'm ever in the area. Cheers! (Pro tip: If you are going to be in Yudanaka for a couple of days, consider asking the information center at the train center about an onsen deal that allows you three baths at any of the three Yukadana onsens.)

Yoshirou is a great host with lot of experience and great hospitality. He will give you local tips to make the most of your time in Yudanaka. The house is located around 4 minutes by car away from the station and he offers to take you there or pick you up, though I recommend walking since the town is beautiful. The room is really cozy, and even though it can get pretty cold in winter, there's a heather in the room that will warm it up in just a few minutes, in the meantime, you can wait at the extremely comfortable common place. The bathrooms are squeaky clean and there is also a shower you can ask Yoshirou to use if you don't feel like relaxing at the local public bath. I highly recommend this place if you are traveling solo.

This place was absolutely stunning, the rooms and common area were beautiful and the place is perfectly located close to the local town, train station and monkey park. Yoshirou was the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble he picked us up from the train station, drove us to the local onsen and monkey park. The breakfast he made us in the morning was incredible and this place made our stay in Yamanochi really special! even the little touch of warming hot water bottles to keep our beds warm, Yoshirou thought of everything!

This is a very good house, the best house I have ever stayed in. Mr. Fang Lang is also very good, and the reception is very warm! The house is very nice and tidy, and the view from the window is very beautiful! really thankful! If I can, I will definitely go again!

After spending 5 busy days in Tokyo this was a perfect get away from the city. Yoshirou’s guest house was excellent and so was he! The nicest guy you will ever meet! He picked us up from the station and drove us to his house. He drove us up to the snow monkeys (which were incredible) and picked us up again. Back at his place we chilled out in front of the fire playing cards looking out at the snowy mountains. You absolutely have to have the breakfast yoshirou offers, he is an amazing chef and the breakfast feast he cooks you is some of the best food we have had in Japan! A perfect trio and would recommend 100%.

Yoshirou is a great host! We arrived during a typhoon so we couldn't do much but he was very welcoming and helpful. The space was really nice to relax in so we didn't feel disappointed despite the bad weather!

Despite a delayed flight Yoshirou still came very late to pick us up, he also drove us to town and picked us up again, he was very generous with transportation. The house was real tidy and there were hot water bottles in the beds, he likes to chat and is ready when you are.

It is a very characteristic house that was renovated at home. He seemed to have been operating a cafe before, was able to provide the space, was able to relax very much, such as meals and conversation.

Our stay at Yoshirou's place was perfect. He responded quickly to the reservation and picked us from the train station. He offered us a welcome tea and also the lift to/from nearby onsen later on. The Japanese style room and bathroom were very clean, the common area was nicely decorated and very cosy. It was so far my best AirBnb experience.

Fantastic place for anyone travelling alone or in small groups. The hosts are incredible and make you feel like part of the group. Would definitely stay again.
