  • What a wonderful spot! Julie’s place is a charming little downstairs apartment. Comfortable furniture and bed. Great, compact kitchen. Tasteful artistic touches everywhere. It was a quiet and restful night. Thanks, Julie!

  • Lovely space and a great host. Julie’s farm is beautiful, and the apartment is well stocked with amenities. You’ll enjoy your stay!

    Brian2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Julie's place was comfy and cozy, and she left lots of little things (snacks, toothpaste and brush, and a bunch of other things) that were really nice. The farm is beautiful, the pets are friendly, and we slept like the dead. Country living at its best!

    Jenean2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Host is very accommodating, left lots of snacks and info about the area, offered use of pool table and rec shed (which we would have taken advantage of if we had been around for more than a very quick 16hr turn Around trip), property is pretty, saw 3 turkeys and an eagle coming up the drive, resident dog is a love.

    Emma2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Julie’s place is like a mini apartment! Private entrance, TV in both the living room and bedroom, full fridge. Julie was very responsive and gave us both snacks and light breakfast foods. There is a long gravel driveway to the house, so small cars might have a little trouble in bad snow (although to be fare, we left pretty early and saw a plow coming towards the house as we were leaving so she may have already been taking care of that). There was also a slight smoke smell in the apartment, but not too bad in the bedroom. Julie really went above and beyond for our stay- it’s a beautiful property, wish we would have had more time to explore.

A quiet place to stay for a quick country getaway from the city or during a campus visit, graduation or reunion weekend at St. Olaf, Carleton or Shattuck-St. Mary's. We have three comfortable rooms to choose from and we're just a 20 min. scenic drive away from Northfield and Faribault and a hour from the cities. The cookies are always fresh-baked, breakfast is delicious and the coffee is fantastic!
Enjoy the quiet seclusion of the Thorstein Veblen Farmstead National Historic Landmark. The farm was established on virgin prairie in 1867 by Norwegian immigrants Thomas and Kari Veblen and was the childhood home of their son, internationally recognized economist and social critic, Thorstein Veblen. In l981, after many years of neglect, the farm was designated a National Historic Landmark in honor of Thorstein Veblen's stature as a noted American thinker. In addition to being an important historic site the property is also a flower farm providing an abundance of sustainably-raised seasonal cut flowers for local subscribers, area florists, weddings and other events, as well as special orders for individuals. Nerstrand Big Woods State Park is just a stone's throw away if you would like to enjoy the area's spring wild flowers (including the rare Dwarf Trout Lily), do some bird watching, experience the dramatic fall colors, or snowshoe miles of trails. If a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life is what you need then come sit on the porch, turn off your phone and get lost in a good book. It's a scenic 20 minute drive into Northfield, home of St. Olaf and Carleton colleges and Defeat of Jesse James Days, Minnesota's largest outstate community festival, and about an hour's drive to the Twin Cities, Rochester, and Red Wing. If you need help making plans we can provide information about local attractions, events, and shopping. We have three second-floor bedrooms available. This listing is for the largest bedroom with a queen size bed, TV and sunny morning exposure. Please see separate listings for the other two bedrooms. A shared bathroom is just steps away from all three bedrooms. The stairs are somewhat steep, as should be expected for a 150 year old farmhouse but are manageable by anyone of average fitness. While we welcome families we ask that children be at least eight years old because the farmhouse isn't childproof. A simple, mostly-organic breakfast of yogurt, homemade granola, fresh fruit, toast, orange juice, and coffee, tea, and milk, provided. Please let us know about any food allergies or restrictions so we can accommodate your needs. You'll find cookies in the cookie jar or some other tasty treat for an evening snack compliments of the resident baker. There are several restaurants in nearby towns to meet your dining needs. We share the farm with our two friendly cats, Teasel and Big Kitty and we'd love to share the beauty and peace of our flower farm on the prairie with you as well. This is a working farm so reservations need to be made at least 48 hours prior to your stay. See the farm on Youtube!
The farm is it's own serenely quiet world apart. The thing most people comment on after staying here is the QUIET. It's a flower farm in the country with a very long driveway so there's rarely road noise and the nearest neighbor is 1/3 of a mile away. Once you've enjoyed what could be the quietest night of sleep ever you can visit Big Woods State Park. It's just down the road and has miles of trails, waterfalls and wildflowers.
  • This historic home and its warm hosts are stellar. We have enjoyed multiple stays here over the past 4 years and always had delicious breakfast, great coffee and interesting conversations, and a comfortable, restful night in the country. I couldn’t recommend more highly.

    Elizabeth2019-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • After multiple visits, these hosts continue to exceed our expectations with their warmth, attention to detail, and pristine acccomodations. Not to mention the delicious homemade bread and granola! We have now stayed in all three charming rooms at this home and they are all comfortable and restful. We look forward to returning.

    Elizabeth2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful house! Totally charming and idyllic. Awesome breakfasts (everything homemade), cookies in the evening, and they made sure they had lactose-free milk for us. Our hosts were incredibly welcoming. Location-wise, the farm house is secluded in a gorgeous spot. The drive to Carleton College was an easy 20 minutes, and parking and traffic were never issues. One thing to be aware of is that there is only one bathroom for up to five guests, but I suppose that's to be expected in a historic landmark. Overall, we had a fantastic stay. We're already looking forward to our next trip!

  • Mark got my TV tuned to the Cubs game knowing I would want to see the win-what more can one ask?

    Gretchen2016-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful stay--welcoming, comfortable beds, very quiet, delicious home-baked goods and granola in the morning.

    Gretchen2016-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of the most amazing Airbnb places I experienced. I've been back many times because of it. I'll always love the homemade granola, bread and jam, and freshly-ground coffee for breakfast. I always feel pampered here.

    Agnes2016-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, friendly, interesting, quiet, historical, cats, flowers, yummy breakfast. Highly recommend.

    Robert2016-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay here. As WONDERFUL as we remembered. Mark and Charmaine are two hosts that cannot be beat, and they are stewards over a MOST AMAZING historical property. And did I mention the wonderful breakfasts, with homemade granola. In two words, STAY HERE. You will love it, and your hosts!

Private studio apartment steps away from St. Olaf campus. A great space for your visit to Northfield! While this listing is for two guests, we can accommodate one or two additional guests. Please message me if this is the case.
The studio is located in a quiet, pleasant neighborhood just a block away from St. Olaf College. The apartment consists of a bedroom area with a comfy queen bed and closet space, a living area with a couch and small dining table, and a fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator/freezer, stove, toaster oven, microwave). There is also a private bathroom located near the laundry room of the unfinished basement which includes a shower. While the apartment is located in the lower level of our home, there is great natural light from south facing windows (we have blinds on all windows). Our backyard has some wonderful pines and a wooded area, leading to a semi-private setting that you are free to enjoy. Guests enter the studio from the side entrance of our home and travel down the stairs to the apartment. We have a non-shedding, black goldendoodle, named Luna. She does not have access to the Airbnb space.
We are located nearly right across the street from St. Olaf College. The Ole Store Restaurant is just around the block (about .2 miles). Tanzenwald Brewery with outstanding German food and beer is a pleasant mile walk. Downtown Northfield and Carleton College are just over a mile walk away with beautiful, historic St. Olaf Avenue homes en-route. St. Olaf has unpaved trails throughout its natural lands which can be accessed across the street for walking, running, or nordic skiing.
  • Very clean, daylight basement studio. Close to St Olaf. Bathroom is across an unfinished basement hall from bedroom area. Cute little neighborhood.

  • Great place to stay with lots of space.

    Caroline2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely space, with two windows above grade and a private entrance. Well equipped with extras like spare blankets, pots and pans, books. Shelves and hooks in the bathroom and the closet/storage area. Very cosy spot three minutes from St Olaf.

    Tom2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Emma's place is was absolutely perfect for visiting our daughter during Christmasfest at St. Olaf. Nice to be able to walk to the college and avoid the festival traffic. Basement was surprisingly warm and cozy and they had a space heater in case we needed it. Kitchen was a great bonus - we make hard boiled eggs and toasted our muffins. Great large capacity coffee pot that kept us going all day. Emma even allowed us to stay late so I could get some work done after our check-out time. Overall a wonderful stay. Thank You!

Comfortable little home, with simple amenities, only three blocks from downtown Northfield; great resturants and local micro breweries a walk away. Use of entire house including washer/dryer, kitchen, WIFI, on-street parking in quiet neghborhood.
My home is right across the street from St Johns Lutheran Church and one block from our Northfield Arts Guild Theater where music and theater productions take place weekly!
  • A simple but homey setting - a clean upstairs room with two sizable beds and a nearby bathroom. Spoke only briefly to Peter, but he seems a very pleasant, helpful guy. Nothing fancy, but did the trick nicely.

Hi, I welcome all people. This is a lower level duplex (1500 Sq Ft) of my home that is bright and sunny. I have two queen beds and one double futon. If you book 3 or 4 people and need to use the futon, I require an additional cleaning fee of $20. No sleeping on couch is allowed.
It is 1500 sq feet, with a fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms each with a queen bed and a futon in the living room. There is a wonderful cozy sectional couch and large screen tv. There is Neflix, Amazon, and Hulu. Wifi is available. There is a whole house water filter and laundry facilities. There are 6 stairs to get inside, otherwise all one level. Outside the door is a park, walking trails, a great seating area and fire pit.
I am 1 mile from downtown and 1.5 miles from Carlton.
  • Julia’s place was exactly as listed and reviewed, especially the cleanliness. It was the perfect resting spot for my college student to get away from the dorms to hang out and have family time. I already have my next stay booked!

First floor room in a charming 1899 Victorian B&B. Features a stunning four poster bed, inlaid wood floors and a decorative antique fireplace, original to the house. Two west facing windows provide plenty of natural light, but have shades to insure privacy and to darken the space at night. The attached bath has a jetted tub with stand up shower. The common areas include a cozy living room, foyer with sitting nook, and an inviting front porch.
When it’s not being used for breakfast, the dining room table serves well as a work space. Breakfast is substantial. I am perfectly willing to cater to all dietary restrictions and particularities, so please let me know if you have allergies or even if you simply despise mushrooms or raisins or, whatever. It’s not a problem. Each afternoon I offer a fruit, cheese and cracker tray. There is always complimentary wine and beer in the dining room, home made chocolate chip cookies and assorted nuts, snack bars and little cans of Pringles. There is a Kerig machine, as well as a small microwave oven, and you'll find ice cream treats in the freezer! Your room has it’s own mini fridge stocked with soda and bottled water. There’s a little decanter of sherry for a nostalgic night cap, and candy bowl full of chocolates. Beyond food... the WiFi is reliable and the room has cable and a smart dvd with free access to Netflix. I still have a big cabinet full of dvd movies as well, although lately I haven’t been adding to it since as much since streaming has become the norm. Like most B&B’s I have also have a cabinet of assorted games, puzzles and books. The room is set up for one or two people, but there is an inflated air mattress stored under the bed that can accommodate a third person (often a college student). When deployed, it does pretty much consume the floor space, but you can just shove it back out of sight when it’s not in use. Extra bedding is, of course, provided. If you happen to be in town visiting a college student, they are welcome to join you for breakfast free of charge anytime during your stay. If you don’t want to skip a workout while you are here, my guests have free access to the Anytime Fitness club just 2 blocks down the street. I also have free passes to The Heartwork Yoga studio, just 4 blocks away. I am a member at both places so perhaps I will see you there!
The house is situated in a quiet residential area, about 4 blocks from downtown. It’s an easy walk to the shops and restaurants, about 10 blocks from Carleton College admissions office, and about a mile from the St Olaf campus.
  • Pamela is an incredibly kind and gracious host. She has thought of every detail and truly made us feel so welcome. Beautiful home and beautiful stay!

    Robyn2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is the best Airbnb on this entire app. It’s so well priced, above-and-beyond wonderful with the personal touches. The food is amazing! If you like homemade breads and cookies, wine and cheeses in the evening, and a beautiful architectural home located in a walkable, cute little town, you should consider booking this place. I honestly, genuinely cannot wait to come back. I’m wondering if next weekend is too soon.

    Brooke2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I came here for a little get away for the weekend. It was the perfect location. Pamela was so hospitable, and made sure we got in our room okay. She made breakfast each morning and it was so delicious! I would recommend this place to anyone - there were delightful snacks always available (the chocolate chip cookies were superb!) and having Netflix in the room was a nice touch and nice to have when hanging out at night.

    Cindy2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is really great! Pamela is a very welcoming host and makes a delicious breakfast. The house is beautifully decorated. Just some of the things that make the stay extra enjoyable: passes to the workout center and yoga studio and cookies any time in the dining room. You gotta stay here!

    Lauren2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Pamela's. The room was super cozy and comfortable. Location is perfect as well, we were able to walk to dinner and the brewery right down the street.

  • Tom is a kind, warm & accommodating host. The house has a wonderful amount of space & was perfect for our girls weekend. The beds were all great & had mattress warmers. House had multiple ceiling fans which was a great plus. The house is very charming and is walking distance to fun downtown shopping and restaurants. Decor was simple and artsy. Tom has a well stocked kitchen & there were fresh flowers in a vase - nice extra touch. Tom was very helpful and accommodating. We will definitely be back and we recommend Toms house for anyone that needs a great place to stay! Tom is trusting & didn't even have a "check-out" requirement list. We'll be returning!

    Amy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Tom's apartment is warm and inviting, with lovely antiques, cute china, comfortable beds and sofa, a new paint job and many thoughtful touches (such as a new tub of coffee, hot cocoa and a fresh bag of marshmallows, postage stamps, lots of travel-sized toiletries, and much more). Tom left lights and the (smart) TV on to make our late-night arrival welcoming. We'll definitely stay here again every time we're in Northfield. Thank you!

This historic farm is a quiet place to stay if you're looking for a quick country getaway from the cities or if you're visiting St. Olaf, Carleton or Shattuck-St Mary's for a campus visit, graduation, family weekend, or a reunion. We're located just 20 minutes from Northfield and Faribault and a hour from the cities. Choose from our three listings to find a comfortable room that fits you to a T. The cookie jar is always full, breakfast is delicious and the coffee is GREAT!
Experience the quiet seclusion of the Thorstein Veblen Farmstead National Historic Landmark. The farm was established on virgin prairie in 1867 by Norwegian immigrants Thomas and Kari Veblen and was the childhood home of their son Thorstein Veblen, world-renowned economist and social critic. The farm now specializes in sustainably-raised seasonal cut flowers. Our two acre garden produces an abundance of flowers for area florists, local subscribers, for weddings and other events, and special orders for individuals. Nerstrand Big Woods State Park is just a stone's throw away if you would like to see the spring wild flowers (including the rare Dwarf Trout Lily), do some bird watching, experience the dramatic fall colors, or snowshoe miles of trails. If what you need most is a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life come sit on the porch, turn off your phone and get lost in a good book. It's a scenic 20 minute drive through the countryside to Northfield, home of St. Olaf and Carleton colleges and Defeat of Jesse James Days, Minnesota's largest community festival, and about an hour's drive to the Twin Cities, Rochester, and Red Wing. If you need help making plans we can provide information about local attractions, events, and shopping. We have three second-floor bedrooms available. This listing is for the cosy little west-facing bedroom with a single bed. The shared bathroom is just a few steps from all three bedrooms. The stairs are steep, as should be expected in a 150 year old farmhouse, but manageable by anyone of average fitness. We welcome families, but ask that children be at least 8 years old because the farmhouse is not childproof. A simple, mostly-organic breakfast of yogurt, homemade granola, fresh fruit, toast, orange juice, and coffee, tea and milk is provided. Please let us know about any food allergies or restrictions so we can try to accommodate your needs. You'll find cookies in the cookie jar or some other tasty treat for an evening snack compliments of the resident baker. Lunch and dinner are available from a variety of restaurants in nearby towns. We share the farm with our two friendly cats, Teasel and Big Kitty and we'd love to share the beauty and peace of our flower farm on the prairie with you as well. This is a working farm so reservations need to be made at least 48 hours prior to your stay. See the farm on Youtube!
A visit to nearby Big Woods State Park is a joy in every season.
  • The Veblen Historic House was a wonderful surprise. Great hosts and a beautiful location. Fresh bread and cookies baked just for us and a friendly but feisty ginger cat were added bonuses. Anyone with students at Carleton or St Olaf should come stay here at least once.

  • This is the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in! It is straight out of a storybook and I can’t wait to go back! It is the most gorgeous farmhouse surrounded by rolling hills and gravel roads. Beautiful rooms, lovely breakfast, and some of the most caring, interesting, down to earth hosts ever :)

    Elizabeth2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Most marvelous experience.

    Patti2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed at the farm multiple times and are already looking forward to next time. Impeccable hospitality and comfort, delicious breakfast, unsurpassed peace and quiet, and warm friendly hosts.

  • Very pleasant accommodation and host couple, and charming and quiet house.

    John2018-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • The fact that I like Mark and Charmaine so much personally doesn't cloud the fact that they're outstanding hosts. Even when we had to leave quickly on our last morning, they were very gracious and kind every step of the way. Thanks to them, an otherwise stressful visit had an oasis of home-feeling each day.

    Erika2018-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • The Veblen Farm has to be one of the best places I have stayed during my travels. Mark and Charmaine are some of the kindest and most caring people I have ever met and accommodated me very nicely. The Farm House is absolutely stunning - from the history to the aesthetic. The house is very cozy and is a great place to stay. I will definitely be staying there again.

    John2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, quiet farmhouse surrounded by beautiful green fields. Perfect for getting away from the city! Mark and Charmaine made me feel welcome and cared for.

The room has a TV (Netflix and Amazon, but no regular channels), closet, and shelves. We have wifi, heating and air conditioning. The bath is down the hall. A second room has simple food preparation appliances (microwave, toaster, hot water pot, Kuerig coffee machine, refrigerator) and a comfortable space for sitting or working. There is a full dresser in the second room.
We live in a quiet suburban neighborhood, about a mile from downtown Northfield. Many of our neighbors have lived here for more than 25 years. In season, you can enjoy our back patio for coffee or a drink.
  • Kris and Hal were both wonderful. I greatly enjoyed the space and was so thankful for fruit provided for guests, to say nothing of the other amazing amenities. Highly recommend.

    Anne2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Airbnb review I so enjoyed my stay! The location was perfect for my visit with my St Olaf student—easy to walk up to campus, easy to walk into town. The apartment is super cute and cozy and perfectly appointed with everything i needed. Barb and Fred were very welcoming and accommodating, but not at all intrusive—the perfect hosts. I’m sad that my son is graduating this year—I wish I had discovered this gem 4 years ago.

    Jennifer2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • My second stay in this quiet, immaculately clean place with so many nice touches like an electric kettle with many tea options and cozy throws. Will plan to stay again! Appreciate host’s greeting on arrival and timely communication

  • This is a very cute and cozy space and was perfect for me while visiting the St. Olaf campus. This little gas fireplace is a great feature!

    Susan2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara’s place is beautifully situated on St. Olaf Avenue, a very short walk to the St. Olaf campus. The place is well appointed and nicely decorated, with a cozy sitting area, gas stove fireplace that nicely warms the area, and a breakfast bar. The bed was comfortable, bathroom nicely decorated and everything was clean. We walked on campus and had breakfast at the nearby (super close!) Ole Store for breakfast (Barbara had coupons for free coffee there and it’s a great spot with good food). I met Barbara and she was gracious and accommodating. Great Airbnb - I highly recommend it!

Welcome Carleton, St. Olaf and Northfield visitors! This modern Scandinavian townhouse was my family's home for 3+ years. We loved living here and it was the perfect space for our young family. When we bought the building we had the unique opportunity to create a home next door to our work. The result is what we have affectionally named Carl & Ole's! C&O's is designed to be simple, open, bright, clean and inviting. We created a lot of memories here and are excited to share this space with you!
For you newcomers or first-timers to Northfield, you're in for a treat! Along with being known as the town of "Cows, Colleges, and Contentment," Northfield is the home to Carleton, St. Olaf, Malt-O-Meal, the "Defeat of Jesse James Days" and a beautiful, vibrant, cozy downtown and riverfront. For those of you that have been to Northfield before you know what makes it special, but of course, there is always something or someplace new to explore or uncover. Enjoy your stay at Carl & Ole's and enjoy Northfield!
  • What a wonderful home! It was perfect for our party of four, visiting for St. Olaf’s Christmas Fest. The townhouse was exactly as described, even more spacious than the pictures. It was nicely furnished, had a gorgeous kitchen with all the supplies we needed. The beds were super comfortable and the location very quiet. Everything was sparkling clean with nice linens and towels. Fun decor and attention to detail throughout the house. Quick communication. Highly recommended!

We highly recommend this AirBnB to anyone wishing to stay in Northfield.

Quaint 1940's bungalow at the base of St Olaf hill, with hard wood floors, remodeled bathroom, new windows, fresh paint and lots of extras to make your stay comfortable. We are the first Airbnb host in Northfield and have over 10 years of hosting families from all over the world. Please read our entire listing before booking, there might be a test upon arrival!!
Great location if you are visiting a student at St Olaf or Carleton A quick walk to St Olaf, 1.5 miles from Carleton or 2 doors from breakfast at The Ole Store!
This is a campus and family mixed neighborhood. Lots of places to walk, Ole Store right around the corner, campus just across the street. Lots of green spaces and trees in the neighborhood. Potential for noise on the weekends during the school year due to 4 college houses across the street, sports and yes-student parties! And we heard there is truck noise at times, yeap we are located in a city not the country so you may hear trucks or even a train whistle from time to time. If you want complete quiet maybe a country listing would be better!
  • Wonderful place to stay while visiting our son at St Olaf. Hosts were great to communicate . The space was clean and well furnished. Thoughtful treats and fresh fruit upon arrival! Nice touches throughout. Easy walking distance to The Ole Store.... our favorite breakfast place. Hope to return in April!

  • This was our 3rd stay at the Bungalow. We enjoy the convenient location and all the special touches at this rental. A basket of items you may have forgotten in the bathroom. Coffee, tea and snacks in the kitchen. Lots of informative notes around the house. We will stay here again!

  • This is such a pleasant place to stay. It's immaculate and inviting. Eileen and Marvin are responsive hosts and have fruit and treats waiting on the kitchen table for your arrival. Nice touch! Highly recommend staying here while in Northfield.

Sammenkomst, a place to gather. This is a Minnesota home with a Scandinavian flare. Light and open kitchen/dining/living room with 12 foot windows overlooking beautiful deck/white pines. "Rocks and trees" Northern Minnesota rec room (50" TV, ping pong, foosball). Two fireplaces. Four bedrooms. Master bedroom , bright Swedish sunroom connected. Added bonuses in master bath, whirlpool . Did I say there is a 6 person sauna Perfect for St. Olaf and Carleton graduations and reunions!!!!
    Quiet family neighborhood.
  • Oh man! Barry's place was amazing. It worked out perfectly for our son's Carleton graduation. It was a great place for our family to gather and so close to campus. Barry was so friendly and helpful. Check in and out were easy. The space is fabulous- spacious, beautifully decorated, comfortable beds, huge kitchen, wonderful deck. Sadly, we didn't have time for ping pong or foosball this trip. I hope we can find a reason to come again!

  • Big, roomy, comfy home! Barry is fantastic on every level — communicative, flexible, warm, polished, gracious, funny. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Located on a dead end street in a great neighborhood, it is a short distance from both colleges, as well as quaint downtown. Perfect for families visiting town! This apartment unit is the lower level of our family's home. While we try hard to keep noise to a minimum, we have three busy little boys so you will hear sounds of our family living upstairs. Someday perhaps we'll be able to offer a space for a serene retreat, but we're not there yet! :)
This is a very family friendly space. It has two private rooms with beds, as well as a futon in the central living space. There are toys and books available for kids, as well as other items useful for little ones (pack n play, high chair, etc.). The full kitchen offers a great alternative to eating every meal at a restaurant, though Northfield has some good restaurant options!
We are located in a quiet neighborhood on the west side of town. It is a walkable distance from both colleges, many parks, several churches, and from lovely downtown Northfield.
  • Without question, my favorite place to stay in Northfield. We have two small kids, and Marja's place is expertly tailored to making sure they're comfortable and entertained. Marja and her family are delightful. Easily walkable to downtown, convenient to the highways and Interstate 35. Ideal Northfield.

    Matt2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very good Airbnb close to downtown Northfield and both colleges. There aren't often a lot of Airbnb options in smaller communities so we were glad to be able to have an option to hotels on a busy college weekend. The décor is simple and quaint, set up like a mother-in-law suite on the lower level of a suburban family home facing the back yard. Everything was very clean and neat and the beds were quite comfortable. There was also a nice large TV with streaming options which was very handy during down time. The bathroom is updated and of course there is Wi-Fi. There is also a dedicated thermostat for adjusting temp for comfort which can be handy during frigid nights! If you have kids along there were plenty of toys and children's books available.

    Roderick2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Marja’s space is perfect for families. We really enjoyed our time in her home and she is the perfect hostess. Thank you!

    Jennifer2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing basement unit that caters to families with kids. Lots of toys, kids kitchen items and pack n play available. Great area and close to local amenities. Marja was extremely accommodating to our needs. We would definitely stay again!

    Becky2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great space with plenty of room in the kitchen and living room areas. The young boys can be loud upstairs, but it didn’t bother us very much. Walkable to downtown Northville in a quieter neighborhood.

    Erin2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious and clean, this apartment below the living quarters of the family had everything I needed! There’s a kitchen— so helpful to be able to store some groceries in the fridge and find a bowl and a spoon to use for breakfast even though I mostly ate out. Marja was there to greet me—and then basically left me to my own devices. You can hear the family upstairs but it’s not at all disturbing; in fact the children sound really cute! The house is minutes from downtown and St. Olaf’s College which is what I was looking for. Try dinner at The Tavern in the cute little downtown area — feels like you’ve gone back in time.

    Myra2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, neat, spacious, and located in a comfortable neighborhood. Marja is an attentive host who provides all the extras a traveler may need. Highly recommended.

The house is cool, well shaded with big trees and flooded with mottled light. A big magical backyard with two huge pines makes it feel like the North Woods. It is peaceful & serene with a big private yard This is a very clean artists house but NOT a hoteI. Please do not book this house if you are a racist or a mean person! I received a bad and fictitious review from a person who left hate literature behind, sad. This is an old but beautiful house, full of love. Please be the same. Thank you!
The house is a beautiful four square from 1915. It has four bedrooms, two large and two smaller in the back front and side of the house. It has one full bathroom and upstairs and a small half bathroom downstairs off the kitchen. There is a huge private garden with big old growth threes. there are exposed hard wood floors through out and forced air heating. The house has fantastic southern light exposures with rooms being flooded with orange light at the front of the house in the evening. The house is situated in the leafy historic small town of Northfield, home to one of the great defeats of the Jesse James gang, and to two top ranking liberal arts colleges, of St Olaf (Known for its world famous Christmas Choir) and Mini ivy league Carlton. The Neighbourhood is three blocks walking distance from the beautiful small down town, that although very quite still bustles with a vibrant coffee house, English style pub, ethnic eateries, an Aveda hair salons, and art galleries. The two Liberal arts colleges lend a sophistication to this town without taking any from it's rustic rural charm. It has a great feel! Northfield is 47 miles south (45 mins) of the twin cities and just 5 miles off a direct drive down on Interstate 35W. There is a coach service, Jefferson lines, that services the area.
  • Artsy sunny, bright home. Spacious. Great WiFi and smart TV. Beds very comfortable. Beautiful stained glass. Very adequate kitchen. Off-street parking, easy access to the beautiful downtown area as well as grocery store. Host very accommodating.

  • This house can accommodate groups and is super convenient to downtown Northfield and the colleges.

    Susan2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a group of 6 getting together for a college reunion. The location was perfect and the house fit our needs wonderfully! We loved the eclectic art and homey feel. It had a wonderful gathering area in the living/dining room! We were within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants! Thanks for your quick responses to all of our questions!

    Josie2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A great landing pad for a group of old friends in town for a high school reunion and the Defeat of Jesse James Days. Convenient location within a short walk of downtown, great living space and backyard, and Philip was easy to communicate with. It's a charming older house, clean and comfy, and feels like a home.

    Erin2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a fantastic time at this house! It’s such a beautiful space. Couldn’t have found a better spot to spend time with old friends for our college reunion. The expansive backyard and porch really put the cherry on top! Would definitely stay here again.

  • Good experience all around.

    Mark2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • The downstairs area is open, beautifully appointed to the 1915 period (we love the arts & crafts style) with little to no clutter and very clean. Each bedroom was comfortable and spacious. If you stay for an event, you will need some family negotiating regarding shower time as their is only one full bath. And finally, don't let the overgrown yard dissuade you -- the inside is very nice.

  • Staying here was such a pleasure! The place is spotless with beautiful pops of color from Julie's artwork. Julie made the extra effort to welcome us and left some thoughtful treats to make our stay easy. Even homemade cookies waiting on our doorstep when we arrived home one evening! The location is fantastic and an easy walk to coffee shops and restaurants on Division Street. I cannot say enough good things.

    Kristy2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Julie's place was exceedingly clean and comfortable and had a lovely clean, zen, vibe. She accommodated our very late check in and it was lovely to have fresh cookies, snacks (microwave popcorn!) and even wine (!) upon our arrival to unwind with after a long day of travel. We loved the fresh flowers and the yoga mat too! The towels were clean and very soft and the shower hot. We used the futon bed (which Julie made up in advance) as well and it was very comfortable. She respected our privacy which was super nice but was available at all times as well by text/email. The location is very convenient to Carleton and St. Olaf's as well as to the cute downtown in Northfield. Thank you!

    Karsten2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Julie‘s home is a beautiful space with so much attention to detail! She is very warm and inviting and we enjoyed her company even during our very short stay! The fresh baked cookies were very appreciated and the natural beauty & details of the outside of the home were lovely. For the defeat of Jesse James days there couldn’t be a better location. We parked our car at the house and didn’t move it again the entire weekend! Everything in the home is clean, tidy, Very artistic, and everything worked beautifully. There was nothing lacking. We will definitely be back!

    Kristi2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had the pleasure of staying in Julie’s apartment while my son visited nearby St Olaf College. It was a tranquil escape with all the comforts of home plus the gracious, personal touches of our lovely host - fresh flowers; special, home-baked snacks, and garden fresh treats. The apartment is spotless, well appointed and a short walk to all the wonderful offerings of downtown Northfield. I can’t thank Julie enough for sharing her beautiful artwork and her home.

  • Perfect place for us for Graduation weekend at St Olaf. Eileen and Marvin made us feel so welcome. Loved all the special touches including tea and snacks on the counter and fresh flowers from the garden in the bathroom.

    Laurel2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Eileen and Marvin was so welcoming and always willing to assist us in getting around town in any way that we needed (which was much appreciated in the cold weather!). They were both happy to chat over a morning cup of tea, or give you your space if you needed.

    Chris2018-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Eileen and Marvin's. They are warm and friendly hosts, and their home is immaculate. We really appreciated their attention to detail --they clearly put a lot of time, thought, and effort into making their home a comfortable place for guests.

    Jeanne2018-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • I think this is my 5th or 6th time at Eileen & Marv's. As I've said before, they are what airbnb was founded on: genuine hospitality, value and clear communication which fosters a people-to-people connection. We have so appreciated being able to turn to them each time we visited our daughter in college.

    Sue2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Eileen and Marvin are superb hosts and their home is perfect for an airbnb experience. If you are headed to Northfield, this should be your first choice! The communication is immediate and clear. The space is wonderfully clean. The beds are amazingly comfortable. The extra touches (bottles of water on the bed stands etc) go beyond expectations. Check in and out is so simple. You can be completely private or enjoy their wonderful company - they let you choose. They're great cribbage players. Coffee was always hot and fresh. And if you need to know anything about Northfield and the surrounding area they are exceptional resources. Our daughter has a year and half left at a local college and we are only sad we did not find this place 2 years ago!! We will be back.

    David2017-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Eileen and Marvin's place was exactly what our family of three needed for a quick stay in Northfield. It's a very nice house in a pretty neighborhood near parks and walking trails, and convenient to Carleton College. Our rooms were spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the house, and the beds were quite comfortable. Eileen appears to knows everything there is to know about Northfield and was happy to share advice and suggestions. We would not hesitate to stay here again, and would recommend this place to others needing nice spot to stay in Northfield.

This is really a nice room. It’s spacious with beautiful hardwood floors and lots of windows. The sitting area is cozy, the fireplace is relaxing, and the bed is so comfortable that you’ll want to take it home with you. If you enjoy a good soak, the whirlpool will be your happy place. (But it also has a shower if that’s your preference) Although I am slightly biased, I would have to say that you would be hard pressed to find a nicer room in Northfield.
The house is a stately 1899 Victorian. She has charm and character and a well seasoned spirit of hospitality. When you relax on the porch or read a book in the parlour, you can sense the magical imprint of history on a house where many happy memories have been made.
My house is in a nice, historic neighborhood just a short walk from downtown.
  • This place is so comfortable and pretty. Pamela goes above and beyond, with sherry in the room, wine, cheese/crackers etc. Breakfast was INCREDIBLE. Awesome experience. So much lovelier than a hotel room with breakfast buffet.

This house has unbelievable living-room views of Skinner Chapel. Crossing the street puts you firmly on Carleton's campus. It is a perfect location for prospective students, guests visiting Carleton, bridal parties using Skinner, and any others wanting to soak up Northfield's neighborhood vibe. You are also within walking distance of downtown, Carleton's arboretum, and a neighborhood park.
The entire house is yours. This includes a private backyard for barbecue or just enjoying a Minnesota evening.
Being so close to the campus there is a lot of activity during the school year. During the summer, Carlton has the occasional activity but for the most part the neighborhood becomes very quite.
  • Only stayed one night, but the house was absolutely perfect. Ideally situated for a visit to Northfield, and to Carleton in particular.

  • Steve and Amy’s place is clean, comfortable, and well stocked. The bed was comfy, and you can’t beat the location. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Carleton. Had fun with the ping-pong table as well!

  • Such a sweet house with a perfect location! We had our morning coffee looking out at the chapel and watching the students shuffle through the surprise spring snow. Steve is super prompt and helpful.

  • Steve and Amy were brilliant hosts, quick to respond and happy to chat through things before check in. They were completely understanding with our needs, especially with all the snow and so flexible with time changes. Lovely quiet area, highly recommend!

  • Terrific spot, lovely home. We hope to be back!

  • When the other two Airbnbs we've used in Northfield were booked, we lucked out to find Chapel House was available. If you're visiting Carleton, you can't beat the location! Beautiful view of Skinner Chapel across the street from the big front window and just a few blocks from downtown. The house is clean and comfortable. The hosts made check in a breeze. Highly recommended!

    Alan2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in Steve's beautiful home. There was plenty of room for four of us and we enjoyed the stylish living room as well as the cozy TV room. The ping pong table in the basement was fun, too! We especially loved the location right next to Carleton's campus and so close to downtown. We walked everywhere and loved having such a convenient location to visit my son at college.

  • Clean, convenient and great communication. Planning to stay here again in the future.

This gracious 1898 craftsman home is two blocks from St. Olaf College, a block from the Ole Store Restaurant, and across the street from Way Park. Original woodwork and hardwood floors are balanced by an updated kitchen and bathrooms. It has a screened-in back porch, an airy front porch, and a wooded private backyard.
The main floor includes a living room with attached sunroom, a full eat-in kitchen, a formal dining room (seats 6), a full bathroom, and two bedrooms (queen; bunked twin/full). Upstairs are two more bedrooms (twin, full), the larger of which includes an office space joined by french doors, and a second full bathroom. The south-facing 3-season porch out front is comfortable well into spring and fall; the back porch overlooking the private, wooded yard includes both a picnic table and lounge furniture. Please note that our 1898 home, which includes many original windows and woodwork, does show its age a bit around the seams. Please enjoy our piano, grill, books, and other amenities. We have small children, so the home is family-friendly; we can provide a pack-n-play, high chair, booster, changing table, stair gates, and other kid necessities on request.
The Ole Store restaurant (est. 1889) is a local favorite; it's great for a romantic dinner or a family meal. They have a great weekend brunch special. Across the street, Way Park has inventive playground equipment, expansive green space, and sometimes free outdoor yoga. It's a pleasant 20 minute walk to the farmer's market Saturday morning at Bridge Square; it offers delicious pastries, live music, and fresh produce all summer. The natural lands on St. Olaf's campus include beautiful walking trails that are great for cross country skiing in the winter. Attending events at St. Olaf are especially lovely knowing you can travel on foot and don't have to find parking.
  • Bridget was a great and mindful host: very responsive and accommodating of our needs, particularly before our arrival to her place. There were four couples in our party, returning to our alma mater for an annual event and a mini-reunion. The place is exactly as it says in AirBnB and was homey and comfortable even for the size of our group. It also added remarkable joy and an unexpected welcoming experience to our reunion. We will definitely look forward to staying again at Bridget’s place in future.

  • This is a charming turn of the century home that is very comfortable and inviting. It’s on a pretty street quite close to St Olaf. We were very contented staying there for a few nights.

  • This place is amazing. It is a very old farmhouse with all the needed modern conveniences. Everything is though of and in place. We stayed for 5 days, pretended we were snowed in, and were comfortable and cozy for the entire time. The caretaker took care of our needs and was friendly and kind. Highly recommend and plan to stay here again when we are in town.

  • We have been staying in hotels, cabins, and other rentals for our girl's weekend trip for over 30 years. This was the very best place we have ever stayed in. We will be back. Everything was perfect.

    Linda2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Renee's home is a spacious and well-appointed farmhouse in a beautiful setting. We had all we needed for our family of 6 + 2 dogs while we visited our students in Northfield.

  • Our stay at Trout Lily Farm was wonderful in every way. The house is very comfortable and beautifully appointed. We had everything we needed (and more, as the hosts had left us all the makings for our next mornings breakfast on arrival). The pastoral grounds surrounding it are lovely and serene. We were in town for my daughter's college graduation in Northfield, and found the home just a short and very enjoyable drive away. I would unreservedly recommend staying here, and wish we had an excuse to return!

    Scott2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful. There are several sitting areas so you can have a full house but privacy, too. The area is lovely and the farm is very charming. There were many special touches. Fresh eggs, butter, bacon, coffee and other items for us in the refrigerator. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. Lovely all the way around!

  • Nice farmhouse with plenty of room to host family gatherings. Extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the fireplaces during the cold weather. Inside the home we stayed warm and cozy. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to get around. Highly recommended.

  • Our family (six grownups, a two-year-old, and a dog) had a great, relaxing break at Trout Lily. Check-in was a breeze, there were goodies waiting, and most importantly the place was comfortable, just the right mix of stylish and quaint. One note, not a big drawback for us but maybe important to some: it's well water, slightly minerally, especially when hot. But all in all, a perfect spot for a quiet summer get-together.

The Northfield Historical Society is the home of a museum and located in the old First National Bank (where the famous Jesse James raid took place in 1876.) The Northfield and Dundas area also have three fabulous brew pubs: Imminent Brewing, Tanzenwald, and Chapel Brewing.
  • Wonderful place. Very close to St Olaf’s college and the town. It’s a very clean, cute and comfortable apt. The hosts were great. When we let them know we would be arriving late the set up the sofa bed for us. I’ll definitely stay there again.
