FOC ACCOMMODATION FOR COVID19 FIRST RESPONDERS Boutique, dog friendly, luxury cottage. Nestled in the heart of glorious Devon. with views over a rich, verdant wooded valley. The Cider Barn has been lovingly restored and is now a luxurious holiday home (chosen for Airbnb Plus).
Step into the Barn and you'll feel your worries and cares slip away as your holiday begins. This is a gentle space where calm colours and subtle French influences abound… from the luxurious linens to the antique beds. LIVING Laze on sumptuous velvet sofas around the enormous OKA coffee table or while away an hour or two reading, curled deep amongst the linen cushions on the day bed… The double height living area is fabulously expansive at 44’ yet with subtly lime-washed oak floors and beams, together with considered lighting; it delivers warm, intimate spaces. The eco-friendly ethanol ‘log burner’ (that “hooray” requires no cleaning) and rich scented candles add to the feeling of relaxation and retreat. Summer or winter it is possible to create your own little bit of Danish Hygge here in the heart of Devon. Enjoy the sight of world-class dressage horses as they are led out to graze in the paddocks beyond. And on the subject of the four-legged… we haven’t forgotten that man’s best friend also loves to take time out and snooze so there’s an enormous and deliciously comfortable dog bed (the design has been fully tried and tested by our 4 very discerning terriers). The Cider Barn may be in deepest, unspoilt Devon but it enjoys super fast 4G-boosted WIFI, a Beats Pill, DAB radio, Amazon Alexa, Freeview TV and DVD players (together with a wide selection of films). However, if you prefer a more analogue approach to your holiday entertainment there’s an extensive choice of books, board games and some amazing birdlife. As the sun starts to set you may even catch sight of the wild deer in the fields or a hare or two. KITCHEN & DINING The Cider Barn has a bespoke, hand built kitchen with the darkest of grey slate work surfaces set against Farrow & Ball’s delicious Purbeck Stone. There’s a large six-hob range cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, Nespresso, Dyson Animal etc. The kitchen has a rather cool, concrete resin breakfast table, which overlooks the ménage where the neighbouring talented Baronswood Equestrian team break-in the young dressage horses. A separate and more formal dining area for long, relaxing dinners lies just beyond and this seats 6. SLEEPING The Cider Barn, rather uniquely, has direct garden access from both the ground and first floors (it’s built into the valley hillside). Two serene and individually designed bedrooms await on the lower floor… The spacious master has a gorgeous and wonderfully comfortable, king-size bed with pure linen throw and a vintage French sofa. A large double window opens out onto views of a sunken courtyard. There’s an en suite wet room with rain shower and complimentary Molton Brown toiletries. The second bedroom has two finely upholstered antique, single French beds, Gustavian bedside table, hand painted wardrobe and doors leading out into The Cider Barn’s very pretty cottage garden. It’s a lovely place to sit and enjoy your morning coffee and have a peek to see if the water lilies are thinking about coming out for the day. There’s a family bathroom with a sumptuous, freestanding bath fantastic for soaking after a day walking on Dartmoor or for the children to play in a mountain of bubbles. If there’s more than four of you, the Loaf day bed in the living space converts to a double or two singles in the blink of an eye. OIL FIRED HOT TUB Indulging in the uber-trendy Swedish wood-fired steel hot tub is an absolute must. Bathe under the stars with a glass of fizz and the gentle crackle of a Birch log fire. This hot tub uses no chemicals and does not tick over using electricity… so its great for you, the environment (and for our hydrangeas who benefit from the water). OUTDOOR SPACE The Cider Barn has a sweet cottage garden with ornamental pond, hot tub and bistro seating. There’s also a second alfresco dining area in the a former walled orchard (that is a work in progress returning to former status. There's sun loungers, large dining table, kettle BBQ, fire pit and a gas fired Ooni Koda pizza oven. Timeless, rural Devon... deeply rural, winding lanes and a great place to explore. The Cider Barn is set between the ancient villages of Zeal Monachorum and North Tawton and is part of the historic Baronswood Manor darting back to 1492. While you may not want to leave the splendid rural isolation of The Cider Barn, it is superbly positioned for exploring both Devon and North Cornwall. It truly is a place where you can stick a pin in a map and ask… “where shall we go today?” The gateway to Dartmoor… Okehampton, lies just 8 miles away. The renowned jewel of the National Park, Chagford, with its gastro pubs and boutiques, is around 20 minutes away through some idyllic lanes (it’s a great place to enjoy lunch if you’ve visited the National Trust’s Castle Drogo). Head east to visit RHS Rhosemoor or the timeless charm of Clovelly or gems like Woolacombe or Croyde on the North Devon coast. If you’ve crossed Dartmoor National Park don’t miss out on the ultra-fashionable Salcombe, seeing the yachts at Dartmouth or perhaps pick up some antiques in the charming town of Ashburton. Exeter is a fabulous Roman city well worth a visit if only to enjoy lunch overlooking the Cathedral green. The Cider Barn is well positioned for memorable days out into Cornwall to Bude and NT Sandymouth (55 mins), Lanhydrock House (55 mins), Boscastle or Tintagel (60 mins), Port Issac (75 mins), Eden Project (75 mins), Padstow (90 mins).
  • Had a fab stay in Devon, the cider barn is an incredible place to stay and Louise is a gem, her hospitality was amazing and she went above and beyond throughout our entire stay. Would love to return!

  • What can I say about the Cider Barn apart from.... WOW, OMG, outstanding and Air BnB gold!! We stayed for my 40th and everything was amazing and Louise was the most attentive and thoughtful Host. There were gifts for the kids (colouring sets and chocs) some bubbles for us and even a birthday cake!! This was better than any five star hotel we’ve stayed in around the world and if you want a truly magical stay in an amazing quiet location then you HAVE to book here.

  • The Cider Barn is a gorgeous hideaway in rural Devon. We came for a weekend of relaxation, and mission accomplished! It was the perfect place to be sheltered from Storm Dennis, very cozy and warm. This place had everything we needed, plus so many thoughtful touches, and we felt right at home. The interior design of the Cider Barn is top notch. Our dog loved the dog paddock where he played and ran around freely and safely. A great bonus if you have a pup with you. Louise was an excellent host, super friendly and helpful. We’d definitely stay at The Cider Barn again!

    Jess2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Cider Barn is exceptionally brilliant and Louise is a top, top host who will go the extra mile to make sure you have a great stay. We hope to return again soon :)

  • We had a fantastic stay and everything exceeded expectations. A beautiful barn, the pictures don’t do it justice. It is clear a lot of time and thought goes into each stay. The prefect get away in a remote location.

Authentic 19th Cent. gamekeeper's cottage set in some of the most beautiful countryside in England - many original features, well-stocked log fires, squishy sofas, & large well-maintained private garden. Fish Cottage is the ideal spot for a romantic weekend or a countryside adventure with family or friends. Woodland walks, riding, cycling & fishing available. Fast wi-fi. Great pubs/food nearby incl. "War Horse" pub, Duke of York. Dogs welcome. (See other listing: www.airbnb.com/rooms/21244654?)
Fish Cottage is one of a group of former estate houses built by the Earl of Portsmouth in the 19th Century to house the gamekeeper for the old Devonshire estate of Eggesford House. Nestling in mature woodland, with a large private cottage garden, the cottage offers a peaceful retreat, away from it all, while being only a short distance from the nearest village shops - and with 2 wi-fi networks! The cottage retains its original 1840s character and in its surprisingly spacious interior is a selection of individually furnished rooms in which to relax and enjoy your stay. Upstairs two Cottage Bedrooms, with comfy double beds, hypoallergenic Miracoil mattresses and luxury cotton sheets, overlook the garden. Downstairs is a large Sitting Room with a wood burning stove, comfy sofa and leather armchairs. There is a stereo system in case you still have any CDs or Cassettes you like to play but there is also a RCA cable adaptor which allows you to play music from your smart phone through the speaker system. The Garden Dining Room adjoins the Sitting Room and has a large oak table dining and chairs for six. The book-filled Study has an open fire, antique bureau and leather sofa and armchairs. There is a well-equipped Country Kitchen with modern electric cooking appliances, dishwasher and washing machine. The Bathroom has a sink, antique bath and hand shower. All towels are provided.
Fish Cottage is located on a hill above an ancient river crossing point over the river Taw at Eggesford. At 45 miles long, the Taw is one of the larger Devon rivers and rises high on the slopes of Dartmoor and together with its tributaries, the River Mole, Yeo and little Dart, runs north through beautiful rolling countryside down to Barnstaple and into the Bristol Channel. Within easy distance of Exmoor and Dartmoor, in the newly designated Unesco Biosphere, Fish cottage is the perfect base from which to explore the unspoiled Devon countryside. It is one of the few corners of England where low levels of light pollution allow visitors to enjoy night skies that have long since disappeared elsewhere. Exmoor National Park is designated as an International Dark Sky Reserve – the first place in Europe to receive this accolade. Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks are a short drive away and are renowned for their beautiful scenery and opportunities for walking, riding and fishing. The spectacular North Devon coast, with its sandy beaches and fabulous coastal walks is an ideal spot for a day trip from the cottage. There are a variety of villages and small towns within easy reach (Chulmleigh and Winkleigh are the closest) with pubs, shops and restaurants. Many of the bigger towns like South Molton and Barnstaple, host traditional weekly markets – ideal places to meet the local community and buy their produce. Horse riding and stabling are available locally and other seasonal country pursuits can be catered for. The Taw provides habitat for a wide range of animals and plants alike, resulting in many stretches of the river being protected as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Otters are once again numerous and can be seen most summer evenings by anglers or nature lovers willing to remain quiet and unseen on the river bank. The Taw estuary which forms part of the UNESCO Biosphere reserve is a fantastic place to spend the day watching the many different types of wading birds that can be found there. The number of wading birds, including lapwings, curlews and redshanks, can reach over 20 000! There are excellent opportunities for salmon, sea trout and trout fishing along the Rivers Taw and Mole, either nearby at the Fox and Hounds Hotel in Eggesford or the Rising Sun at Umberleigh, or on a variety beats along the Taw and Mole valley. A program of fishing can be arranged on a variety of beats on the local rivers. Owner has fishing one of the best beats of the middle Taw. Please allow at least two weeks for us to arrange sporting trips and guided walks.
  • The cottage is amazing. It’s bigger than it looks on the outside and has a lovely garden. It has lots of charm and is very cosy. There are some wonderful footpaths through the woods and is only an hours drive from the coast. The hosts are attentive and responsive. Would definitely recommend!

    Stephanie2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • The fish cottage is a cozy country home - we could have stayed for months. The home is way bigger than it looks in the photos and is well-furnished and comfortable. We loved the wood-burning stove and the well-lit back room for working and dining. The setting was gorgeous and perfect for exploring Devon, Dartmoor, and Exmoor. Michael also arranged fishing for my partner which was a wonderful experience. We would absolutely stay again!

    Cory2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Idyllic countryside cottage perfect for walking and visiting North Devon with log fire! Some excellent tips of things to do from the host. No TV was a welcome change to relax, make the most of the log fire, play the provided board games and listen to music.

    Chris2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time at Fish Cottage and we loved it just as much this time round. The cottage and garden are beautiful, and there’s plenty to do in the surrounding area. Come if you can!

    Andrew2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home and garden providing an excellent base for exploring rural Devon and the coast. We all felt very at home and everything was thought of. Great for getting away from it all but also close to main roads to easily get to the coast and not far from Dartmoor. We enjoyed going back to the old school playing board games and listening to music rather than tv and devices all the time. The office was a welcome space for my husband to keep up with his work when he needed to and for some peace and quiet. Highly recommend.

    Gayle2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place

    Vincent2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is exactly what it’s described as. Wonderfully relaxing and pleasantly homely. The artwork and ornaments give it life and wood stove heats the whole house to a cosy level. Exceptional cleanliness throughout and wonderful wildlife in the garden. On the first morning we were able to watch a stoat popping in and out of the garden wall in front of the back window. I also counted 10 frogs in the pond in the garden. Highly recommended property and excellent communication with the host.

    Sarah2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We spent just over 2 weeks at Fish Cottage. We went there to hibernate, relax and reset for the year ahead and therefore spent a lot of time in the house. It was the perfect place to unwind and had everything we needed for the two week stay (except a freezer, so no ice in your whisky!!) There were a couple of things not as expected upon arrival but Micheal responded very quickly and his housekeeper, who lives 5 minutes away, sorted everything by the next morning.... all handled in a very lovely and understanding way. Despite being there in the middle of winter, the heating available kept us cosy. The library is wonderful. The room with the dining table at the back gets the most light - it's a very old, traditional cottage and so the rooms are quite dark. The free standing bath was heaven for baths and a bit of a fiddle for showers which wasn't an issue for us. Lots of options for walking and very friendly neighbours including the horses, Melody and Trafalgar!

Our barn is well situated between London and Cornwall, and is on the cycle route from Land's End to John o' Groats. We offer peaceful, simple accommodation, in a converted barn. The decor is simple, eclectic and stylish, possibly shabby chic. The building is spacious yet intimate , with a comfortable bed, cosy sofa, and a wood burner. The barn is completely separate from the main house where we live, by about 30m. Although we are mostly here, the barn feels very secluded.
The building is open plan with a separate kitchen and shower room. Downstairs is spacious, with two sofas, wood-burner and a large table. There are a lot of books lining the walls! There is also a large collection of DVDs for evenings by the fire. Please note, the TV only works as a screen for the DVD player. There is an HDMI cable for you to attach a laptop of your own. The main double bed is on the loft-style mezzanine, reached by a small wooden staircase. There is limited head-space a the edges, due to the sloping ceilings and large beams. Although the barn is ideal for 2 people, it can accommodate up to 3 extra people, if you are happy being in such an open space room. There is a single futon upstairs in the main room, and one of the sofas downstairs can become a double bed. The building is heated with a wood-burning stove; there are always plenty of logs, and it will be ready to light when the weather is cold. We will help to work it if you are unfamiliar with stoves! While respecting your privacy and peace, we are always happy if you need to ask us for anything, walk directions, wood-burner tips etc.
Our barn is a good base if you have come to visit friends or have things to do nearby, or just want to relax. The walking immediately around us is rather flat, but Dartmoor is only a twenty minute drive away, and the North Devon and Cornwall coast path is less than an hour away by car. We have quite a good selection of circular walking books. Also the Tarka cycling trail can be picked up at Meeth. This takes you along the disused railway track all the way up to the coast at Bideford. You can hire bikes if you pick up the trail at Torrrington. There is a very nice café en route called Yard Orchard, which offers delicious and generous home-made food.
  • Lovely, cosy space and great host.

  • This is the perfect hideaway. We loved our night away at The Hideaway and would definitely come back. The space is so characterful and cozy. We loved snuggling on the sofas reading books and watching movies infront of the fire before waking up in the morning to the birds singing. Bliss. The kitchen has everything you need, the bed was comfortable and the shower was lovely and warm in the morning. Even though it is in the countryside it is still very easy to find thanks to France's instructions.

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage with welcoming log fire and personal book and film collection making it the perfect place to get away from it all and relax. Really enjoy our night away with the rain on the windows and the fire on. Thank you so much!

  • A really beautiful barn conversion - tastefully done up, cosy and exactly what you’d want from a stay in the countryside. The surrounding area is beautiful and Frances is a warm, friendly, accommodating and helpful host. Can’t recommend enough.

    Murat2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding. Much bigger than photos look but still very cost and quaint. Wood burner is lovely. Kitchen facilities great with tea, coffee, oil and seasoning supplied. The bed was very comfortable and warm and we had a very relaxing weekend. Lots of books and DVDs to entertain yourself with. Frances and her husband went above and beyond to help us and make sure we had a good weekend, as well as responding immediately to messages. We have already started planning our return.

  • Wagtail Cottage is tucked away in the Devon countryside near Winkleigh - perfect for my sister and I as we were attending a party in Iddesleigh. We were there out of season and it was so very peaceful. The cottage was warm and welcoming and David ensured we had plenty of logs for the log burner. I highly recommend this cottage to those wishing to visit the area - well behaved children and dogs are also welcomed!

The Cabin @ Lake Lodge is a newly-built and tastefully decorated log cabin with a contemporary, yet cosy feel. The property overlooks agricultural land that houses our small flock of sheep, currently with lambs at foot. The Cabin has its own garden complete with hot tub, brick BBQ and fire pit. Please note that an additional £10/day is charged for use of the hot tub. You will find a complimentary bottle of Prosecco waiting for you in the fridge; hot drinks and firewood also included.
The Cabin provides guests with a rare opportunity to enjoy and survey the surrounding countryside and wildlife from the comfort of a cosy and fully glass-fronted sitting room. You may experience our friendly sheep roaming within feet of the sitting room windows, or be lucky enough to spot other wildlife enjoying the land and seemingly unaware of your presence. A well-stocked bird table and bird feeders are located just outside of the living room and kitchen windows, which attract an array of breeds.
Guests will find the residents of Hatherleigh welcoming and approachable with a wonderful sense of community. There are a host of events to be enjoyed, such as the arts festival in July and its exceptional carnival in November.
  • Sitting under the stars in a hot tub will be something I will remember forever. A beautiful stay away. The cabin was so sweet and romantic the pictures don't do it justice. Birds come right up to the window to feed and listening to them is so peaceful. The location is great too! And we were presented with some lovely ideas to go out and eat. Lovely, peaceful, romantic and great hosts 10/10 would 100% recommend and come back.

    Amy2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great space with nice touches. Ideal if you are active in the day, and then wish to soak in the hot tub in the evening. I’m sure I’ll be back

    Simon2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is an absolutely beautiful place to stay, I don't think much can beat waking up in such a peaceful place. It's hidden away enough to allow for some peace and quiet but close enough to all the amenities you'd need. Rob and Sophie were great hosts, they were there if we required any help but otherwise we were left to enjoy our stay. They have literally thought of everything you could have needed, the cabin isn't missing anything you might require. It was super clean and the hot tub was amazing. The closed in private garden was a great plus in regards to our bouncy young Labrador who enjoyed her stay as much as my husband and I did! We look forward to returning!

    Sian2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place located right in the heart of beautiful Devon. The cabin surpassed our expectations and the tranquility of the location was fantastic. Both of us, not to mention the dog, loved the sheep and chickens and were fascinated by their movements. The hot tub was so hot, beautiful to sit in on those cold and rainy nights. The log burner was lovely and made a really cosy cabin. A fantastic stay, luxurious, relaxing and we will definitely be back soon. Great hosts with fantastic communication, thank you.

  • Amazing weekend away accommodation so nice in a beautiful location loved the wildlife and of course the hot tub ... can’t wait to return , lovely added touches chocolate left on your pillow and ice cold bottle of procecco in fridge .... ample of tea coffee sugar ect .... the eggs from the chickens we collected in the mornings made a amazing breakfast .... Amanda and Sean from Swindon

    Amanda2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • It was amazing. Sophie responded quickly to enquiries, the place was clean and modern and had a nice secure garden. The log burner was great, it made the cabin feel so cosy. We felt like we had privacy, we couldn't see anyone throughout the stay and we could have been anywhere in the world. It is not often that you get to enjoy this sort of luxury when you travel with dogs. We loved it. And we will go back!

    Emmi2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fab cabin - a perfect space for our weekend away. The hot tub and fire were great! The bed was incredibly comfy. Nice distance to Dartmoor and the local village was easy to walk into and lovely to visit. I would definitely recommend!

    Claire2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • This lodge exceeded our expectations. We've stayed in a few air b n b of high standard and this is by far my favourite. After going for soggy dog walks across dartmoor coming back to a hot tub and a log fire were perfect. Eating breakfast whilst watching the sheep, the birds and chickens was so relaxing. The garden was perfect for the dog, all nicely enclosed allowing us to relax in the hot tub without having to worry about where the dog was. Little touches like the chocolates on the pillow and the bubbly added the extra wow to our whole stay. We would 100% reccomend this to our friends and intend to return in the spring/ summer to make use of the pizza oven in the garden. Sophie was only a text away if we had any problems otherwise we felt like we were all alone in our own little paradise. Thank you sophie. X

  • Tim and Claire's place is beautiful. We loved our stay in their cottage, it was everything we could have dreamt of and more. If you get the chance to stay here: snap it up as you'll be in for a treat. It's a lovely village too and we were able to get out and about quite easily, to places such as Clovelly and Tintagel.

  • Paul and Elizabeth are excellent hosts. The cottage was spotlessly clean and in a tranquil spot. We had a very relaxing stay and would highly recommend. We'll be back!

    Frank2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious, very quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay. Had all the things we required. Paul is knowledgeable about the locality, and advised on walks to be had.

    Martin2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay; it’s a beautiful cottage in a fantastic location with Paul as a lovely, welcoming host. Would definitely recommend.

  • A lovely cottage in a complex of 6/7 conversions but the others are owner occupied. Right in the beautiful countryside of mid Devon with lovely walks and nearby cycle tracks. Ideal for a week away to relax with pubs and local shops all within a mile and a half .

    Stuart2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place to stay to explore the area. Paul made us welcome without being overbearing, and knowing he was available if anything was needed made us feel very comfortable. The cottage is comfortable and spacious, and accurately described. It was easy to find, and although we really only treated the place as a bedroom, the 3/4 mile walk to the local hostelry was worth the effort on the couple of occasions we did so. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and heartily recommend this property.

    Eric2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for central Devon and the surrounding areas. Fabulous accommodation and Paul is a great host. Everything was thought of and he was on site if we had any questions. Highly recommended.

  • We had a perfect stay at this tranquil and idyllic part of northern Dartmoor. Paul is a great host with lots of useful information about the area, especially walking tours to Dartmoor. The place is spotlessly clean and well equipped. We found everything we needed for a 4 day stay. We can recommend this place to everyone who loves nature, tranquility, cosy homes and active holidays.

Our beautiful barrel top wagon is set in it's own private woodland glade with ample parking. It is light, airy and comfortable, perfect for a quiet escape with wildlife on the doorstep. It is eco friendly with a compost loo, reed bed water filtration system and cosy wood burner. Good for two couples or a family with two children. Well behaved dogs and cats are welcome. There is no TV or internet and the phone signal is sporadic. (Visitors are welcome to use host's landline in an emergency).
The wagon is a local craftsman built, beautiful wooden structure. It has a mazzanine double bed and the table folds down to provide a second double bed. It's cosy and colourful, has a good gas cooker with four rings, grill and oven, there is also a proper shower. There is a very efficient, easy to use, wood burning stove which keeps the well insulated wagon very warm and cosy in cooler weather. The compost loo is outside and is hygeinic and a pleasure to use. If you are lucky you may spot a deer in the early morning, come to graze in the open area surrounding the wagon. There is woodland and a wild field to roam in where orchids and other wild flowers bloom and wildlife abounds.
We are in a less touristy part of Devon which is very agricultural. We are in striking distance of Exmoor and Dartmoor. The Tarka trail is nearby, as well as other lovely places to walk. Okehampton has an interesting Mott and Bailey castle. Hatherleigh has a weekly produce market. Winkleigh has a good village shop, post office and two good pubs. Iddesleigh has a good pub which was where Michael Morpugo's 'Warhorse' story oginated and the warhorse museum is nearby. The RHS garden Rosemoor is just our side of Torrington. More photos of the wagon and local area available on my Instagram: julietburniston #thegladebondleigh

  • One of the best Airbnb's we have stayed in. Juliet is lovely, her little wagon is perfect. Everything was spotless, with special touches and a lovely breakfast provided. The bed was so comfortable and had a great nights sleep. Our dogs enjoyed themselves too. Will definetly be booking to stay again. Thank you so much.

  • Cracking little wagon set in your own private area away from it all. The wood fire kept us nice and cosy on a wet & windy night, while the outside area would be great on a warm summers evening. Juliet was a great host providing plenty of added touches to make our stay easy and enjoyable.

The village location is very quiet and the locals were very friendly, particularly the local pub staff ( who entertained our 8 year old daughter with magic tricks at dinner time ) Would totally recommend this property for a peaceful retreat , and with many places to visit within 30 mins drive it’s perfect for a family getaway .... if you like driving through rural countryside this will keep u happy !

  • We had a very comfortable stay and Sarah (plus her family) were extremely welcoming & sincere hosts to us and our dog Gwen. Parking was straightforward, directions accurate & check in arrangements were sympathetically flexible to our long journey. The accommodation was really groovy, clean & comfortable. We loved the sunroom. Seating was comfy, there was a huge tv and although there literally was a raging storm outside (!) the place had a sense of cosiness about it. Breakfast provisions and choices were excellent. This is a great place in which to stay!

Welcome to The Den, tucked away in the privacy of our garden - Offering living/sleeping space and ensuite shower room. With unique original features it includes a double bed, relaxed seating area, and kitchenette area with kettle, toaster, fridge and essentials. Although small and compact The Den offers high quality accommodation with a crisp and clean minimalist feel. Imagine yourself sleeping in your own den, relaxing in peace and quiet in cosy comfort - let the real world slip away.
The Den is set on its own patio area, situated within our productive vegetable garden. This sheltered and secluded space, in the grounds of our home, is for your own private use during your stay and you are very welcome to wander the gardens and paddock areas too. There’s a BBQ/fire bowl and outdoor furniture to enjoy on the patio, nestled next to the rhubarb patch and looking out across the prolific vegetable beds. Dark skies and outstanding views of the Milky Way makes star-gazing snuggled under cosy blankets a favourite pastime. Your stay includes fresh milk, a variety of teas and ground coffee, with a DIY breakfast of cereal, toast and juice. The bathroom has a lovely wooden floor, large shower, towel-rail, sink and WC. The Den is too small (12m2 ) to have cooking facilities, but if you would like to stay longer, and make a week of it, we are very happy to set up a ‘camp kitchen’ for you so you can prepare and cook you own meals al fresco. If you are arriving by bike without provisions we can provide a hearty evening meal or BBQ hamper - please enquire when you book. Relax in the sunny garden, explore the local area walking or cycling. Visit amazing beaches, coastline and countryside or Dartmoor and market towns, all within a short drive.
Located in the rolling West Devon countryside The Den is a must for those seeking a taste of the rural life. Situated two and a half miles north of the market town of Hatherleigh where there are two pubs which serve evening meals, a cafe, Post Office, newsagents, a small supermarket, a Fish and Chip shop and several small, individual art and craft shops. Market day is on a Tuesday.
  • Quiet, rural, clean, warm, private basic accommodation in idyllic spot in hosts garden. Visited two nature reserves recommended by host Meeth Quarry and Halsdon by River Torridge...beautiful. Homemade pies at Bull and Dragon in Meeth, were excellent. Thoroughly recommended as stop over or a visit in it own right.

    Richard2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • I chose The Den because on screen it ticked all the boxes for what I was seeking: rural; private, come/go/stay as I want, homely, value for money. When I arrived, I wasn't disappointed and I soon felt at home. The Den is in its own little space but Shant's and her neighbours' houses are close by if needed, so great if you're travelling solo. The Den is what you see in the pictures: basic equipment provided; clean, simple, contemporary decor (love the wooden towel pegs); access to garden furniture including a barbeque. It was raining and blowing a hooly most of the time I stayed so I didn't get to use these. It's a great place for environment-conscious people: recycling, composting and conscious water use. If you're a stargazer, The Den is a fab place to stay. I got a glimpse of the clear star-studded sky on my last night just before another storm blew in. I stayed alone and was very comfortable in the space; it would be ok for a cosy couple. Hatherleigh is cute. Check out the Pyle auctions just for the auctioneer's banter if not to bid.

    Cheryl2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Even with a storm outside on our second day we had a lovely time there. A comfortable, fun little place to stay. North Devon Coast within reach and nice countryside all around.

  • I can’t rate this accommodation highly enough. The space is beautiful and serene, a lovely host as well as friendly neighbours (sheep, chickens and geese). Bed was warm and shower was good, I took my own radio and spent some lovely alone time there.

  • I had a wonderful 3-day stay at Kelly’s house. My room was clean and comfortable with a nice bed, tea and coffee making facilities and a few extra touches to make you feel extra special. The bathroom and shower were clean and high quality (instant hot shower, big soft towels). Kelly is a fantastic and friendly host and was there for any questions or needs I had and more. I also felt very welcomed by her friendly dog, who is also easily avoided if you aren’t fussed on dogs. The breakfast was amazing and beautifully presented with fresh berries and fruit, a croissant and tea/coffee among other things. This stay was beyond my expectations and I would 100% recommend it and stay again.

  • Lovely place to stay in a lovely area. We were there for a wedding and were late due to traffic so Di made check in flexible, first to allow us a bit early before the wedding started, then self check in late at night when we had to divert straight to the venue. We then had a lovely lie in and breakfast hamper delivered to the door. As if this wasn’t enough, when our taxi failed, they drive us to our car. Perfect hosts.

    Oli2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality and attention to detail. Breakfast was exceptional.

  • Di and Dan couldn’t of been more welcoming and friendly, my partner and I felt instantly at home! The wonderful little touches made the trip even better with little welcome messages and a beautiful personalised breakfast hamper! The cottage is set in such a peaceful and beautiful setting, with lots to do! The bed, bedding and pillows were an absolute dream, especially after walking 30 miles over Dartmoor! Di and Dan have thought of absolutely everything and the stay couldn’t of been better! I would definitely recommended staying at this beautiful cottage!

  • If your looking for an amazing location, excellent helpful and cheerful host with a spotlessly clean and extremely well appointed accommodation look no further. It had everything I needed for by overnight business trip. I was left a beautifully home cooked meal of beef stew with perfectly cooked vegetables and a lovely rhubarb tart with clotted cream! Also some delicious home made cake and lots of other goodies! My breakfast hamper was excellent. Extremely good value for money in fact I paid a bit extra because it was worth it. I especially loved the roaring wood fire on the cold and misty night. My only issue is that I've been spoilt now - I do a lot of business travelling and I dont think I will ever find anything as good as this again! It made being away from home a lovely experience. Thank you to Wendy and her sister.

    Cerrie2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy’s place is a delight. It’s so perfect for a getaway in Devon. Added bonus points for the horses in the field :) The tea , coffee and cake along with the dog treats were a great added bonus. Will be definitely be coming back when we next head down south it’s just like a home from home. Loved it. Rachel. James and Millie moo.

  • My partner and I, together with out two pooches, stayed here on New Years Eve for a quiet cosy night away. Wendy provided very clear directions to find the cottage and we were made to feel so welcome on arrival. The cottage exceeded my expectations and was stunning. The space was larger than expected and was beautifully decorated with extra touches for the festive season. Wendy provided a lovely welcome pack of tea, coffee etc and we also paid a little extra to include breakfast items such as eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes etc. As it was New Years Eve a few extra treats were provided including chocolates and Prosecco, a lovely surprise! There were also treats for the dogs! The cottage was spotlessly clean and they have thought of everything, spare towels for wet paws, face wipes, toiletries, candles, torch...the list goes on. Very large and comfy bed and beautiful views. Will certainly be returning! Thank you again for a fabulous stay.

    Phoebe2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful home with welcoming hosts. Place seemed almost brand new and offered beautiful country views. Got the local breakfast hamper offered for a small fee and it did not disappoint. Would definitely stay again.

  • You’re going to wish you stayed longer! Super helpful & lovely host ☺️ Beautiful view, clean, cosy & stylish home! Everything you’d need would most probably be there (i.e, toiletries - bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee). I definitely want to come back in the future!

    Chloe2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t explain how much we loved this annex .... so much so we stayed an extra night!! Wendy was a fab host! We arrived to some of the yummiest homemade banana bread I’ve ever tasted (don’t tell my mum!) fresh bread, scones, cream and jam!!!!! We came back one day to find she had left us some tea-lights and a torch out after a short power cut that has happened during the day. The annex was SPOTLESS, it had everything you would need, the comfiest bed and a lovely lovely view. We used it as a base to visit lots of places, Lyme Regis, Newquay, Port Isaac, St Ives, Lands end and Bude. We also had a meal at the local pub in the next village which was lovely and very welcoming. I would love to stay again and would highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about booking. You will not be disappointed! Thank you again for such a fab few days!

    Caroline2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and Katie are superb hosts and go the extra mile to make your stay an enjoyable time. Excellent hamper of locally produced dairy products and bread and bacon etc was here on our arrival. All the facilities are here for everyone and your dog. Great location for all coastal beaches and walks that are dog friendly too. The place is so spacious with a lovely super king size bed that provides a good nights sleep. Could not ask for anything more. It’s our second holiday, but our sons dog Hendrix has been many times and treats it like his second home we think!!! Will be back again in the future sometime. 10/10 👍😎

  • Everything was perfect at Meadow Cottage, the cottage itself was beautiful, well stocked and set in a remarkable and unique setting. Amy was available to help us when we first arrived and was very welcoming. Marc was kind enough to show us around the brewery and talk to us about some of the history of the house, which in itself is fascinating. We bought beer to take back home with us as it has a truly unique source. We would highly recommend a stay at Meadow Cottage, we feel very lucky to Have managed to get a booking. Gemma and Ivan

There is so much to do in the area that a week was hardly enough. Highlight for us was the natural beauty of Dartmoor. Really a place to return to.

  • Stunning location. Comfy dog friendly cottage with everything you could need including a private meadow! Well worth asking for a tour of the farm to see the beautifully restored thatched barns. And definitely sample the beer brewed on-site.

We are ideally situated for accessing Dartmoor as well as the north coast of Devon & Cornwall. RHS Rosemoor Garden, Castle Drago and other NT properties are within easy reach. Good fishing can be found in lakes nearby. The market towns of Okehampton, Crediton and Tavistock are a short drive away where there are supermarkets and independent shops.
  • This property is great for a family stay. It is close to local amenities easy to find (Jean provides excellent directions) and very comfortable. We stayed during some rotten weather but the house was warm and cosy. It is well stocked with all the kitchenware you will need and the welcome with fresh scones, jam and clotted cream really was fab. I would recommend it to everyone.

  • An unusually striking and charismatic property, ideally located for exploring Devon. Our stay in the East Wing was comfortable and restful. Very much looking forward to an opportunity to stay again. Thank you Jean. A wonderful find.

  • Accommodation was just as pictured and spotlessly clean. Very comfortable and perfect for our needs. Jean was very welcoming and provision of cream tea ingredients and other basics (tea, coffee, milk etc) was much appreciated after a long drive

    Jane2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay, Jean made us feel welcome and loved the cream tea! Beds were great, linens nice and fresh. The character and charm of the property exceptional

  • This is a stunning place to stay - such a beautiful and unusual building with a fascinating history and great views. Love that both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. Things to note when choosing who has each bedroom - the one at the front is smaller but has the sunny side and the best views, the one at the back is more spacious and has the firmer bed. Good arrangements for hanging up clothes. Open plan kitchen/living/dining room works well, and we could look at the garden and a field with sheep as we ate. Generally we were comfortable and Jean and Martin made us very welcome but also left us our privacy. The house is close to Dartmoor and we fitted in a couple of good walks as well as meeting up with friends and family nearby during our 4 night July stay.

    Hannah2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful place. Jean made the process of checking in so easy and simple. The scenes inarrival were so welcoming and delicious. The building is so interesting and I had the best night sleep! I could go on and on about how much we loved it here. We would definitely come back.

    Susanne2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment in Burton Hall was a wonderful place to stay. Spacious, bright, comfortable, clean and quiet and such an interesting building. We were welcomed with scones, jam and clotted cream - very welcome and a great start to the weekend.

    Chris And Penny2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a quiet comfortable base for a holiday in or around Okehampton you can’t go wrong with this cottage. We really enjoyed our two nights here, and Ruth and Sheila have made this a cosy, spotlessly clean and well appointed place to stay, with everything we needed. There’s a fantastic view, and there’s plenty of room to sit outside to quietly enjoy it. There’s also an easy and pleasant walk down into town without having to use the road. So much to see and do in this lovely area and we look forward to visiting again.

Enjoyed a peaceful night sleep and lovely fresh bread, coffee & marmalade in the morning. All the amenities you would need. A lot of thought and attention to detail. Couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Didn’t get chance to visit on this trip but there looked a couple of nice village pubs very near too!

!!This flat contains a very comfy bed!! Ted Hughes & Sylvia Plath lived in North Tawton, where this flat is located. The build is three years old. It is less than 200m from the river Taw & pleasant walking. The central Devon location is equally distanced from the South Devon coast, North Devon coast, Exeter & the North Cornwall coast. We are 12 minutes from the A30 (for Cornwall) & only 34 minutes from the M5. Dartmoor is only 15 minutes away. You will have the flat to yourself for the stay.
This is a beautiful and well-kept space. Daphnee and myself (Matthew) are tidy and clean people, and we vacuum here regularly as Daphnee has a dust allergy. We live in the space when it is not being used for Air B n B. The sunsets out the back window, viewed across the fields, are often stunning.
North Tawton is a lovely little town (or large village). There is a website here: https://www.northtawton.org/ Crediton, on the bus route to Exeter, is a lovely market town with plenty of charity shops, a couple of secondhand bookshops, antiques shops, eateries, cafe's and a good health food store on the square.
  • Matthews place is warm, clean, tidy and comfortable - just the place to relax. It was great to have full use of the kitchen to cook in which saved us time and money. This was a work trip for us which was a shame as we would have liked to stay on a bit longer. The area seems lovely and we would like to visit again to explore.

    Sarah2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice clean flat in a new build area of North Tawton. Was just what we needed while studying on a course down the road. So nice to come back into a warm space. Very clean and comfortable. Also very quiet! Enjoyed the Devon sunsets too. I can recommend this flat as good value for money, clean, stylish and warm.

  • An excellent and spacious sheep hut in a lovely meadow setting. There is a little walk up to the hut but this does give you plenty of privacy. The showers are also a bit of a walk away however there is a toilet 15-20 meters away. There are lots of lovely homely touches throughout, clearly a lot of thought has gone into this beautiful small space. I would definitely stay again!
