Pontypool (Welsh: Pont-y-pŵl [ˌpɔntəˈpuːl]) is a town that is home to approximately 36,000 people in the county borough of Torfaen, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire in South Wales It is situated on the Afon Lwyd river in the county borough of Torfaen. Situated on the eastern edge of the South Wales coalfields, Pontypool grew around industries including iron and steel production, coal mining and the growth of the railways. A rather artistic manufacturing industry which also flourished here alongside heavy industry was Japanning, a type of lacquer ware. Pontypool has a notable history as one of the earliest industrial towns in Wales. The town and its immediate surroundings were home to significant industrial and technological innovations, with links to the iron industry dating back to the early fifteenth century when a bloomery furnace was established at Pontymoile During the sixteenth century, largely due to the influence of the Hanbury family, the area developed its association with the iron industry and continued to consolidate its position in the seventeenth century, when the development of the town began in earnest. Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the metallurgical and extractive industries of the area, along with the development of the canals and railways, provided the impetus to the expansion of Pontypool and its surrounding villages and communities. its very green here and we love out doors stuff like shooting fishing and mountain biking.. the walks are bracing or leisurely based on your inclination and the people are really friendly the outlying areas vary from the true Valleys where Tom Jones was born to buzzy Abergavenny and Usk
  • We had a lovely stay here! The room is huge and really gorgeous. Perfect place to relax and get away from it all. We enjoyed a lovely walk a short drive away and spend evenings in with wine and a takeaway. Felt like a home away from home. We would definitely come back again.

  • We have just came back from a long weekend at Serafinas b&b. Really relaxed the whole time. Bed was so comfortable and so was the sofa, couldn’t decide which one to sit and watch Netflix on. Choice of breakfast is provided in your room with tea coffee and also orange juice! I really recommend if you’d like a relaxed weekend away. Food at the Lower new inn is also a great choice for dinner, we went both nights! It’s about 5-6 minutes drive from the b&b. Thank you for a great stay.

Luxury Cabin is actually a hot tub room that came with the house - used the hot tub twice and stuck the thing on Ebay . Cabin has wifi , power, heating , a Tv and loads of DVD's . There is a double bed. There is an adjacent basic kitchen and a rustic WC and shower . The garden here is massive and full of poultry . We are in the wilderness of South Wales so if you visit in January bring a coat. Whilst the cabin is not the Savoy we are at least friendly.
Think of the cabin like comfortable camping with a bed electricity wifi and heating - and no packing up !
Holly Tree cottage is located in the south wales valleys on the edge of the Brecon Beacons - there are some fantastic cycle tracks around here and Garn Motorcycles (where Richie works) hire out push bikes so if you fancy cycling about let us know before you are coming and we can sort bikes out for you
  • Amazing

  • Desperately needed a little get away! And we hit Jackpot!!! This was PERFECT! We only stayed for the night and it was a stormy rainy night at that, absolutely amazing nostalgic feeling with the rain and wind thrashing around the shed, it wasn’t to loud or anything because it’s fairly sheltered anyway! Was just perfect and cosy. We didn’t expect all the little extras either! And it was so well kitted out, warm inside, electric blanket, drinks and snacks, ‘kettle!’ TV & DVD player with an epic selection to choose from! We drove to a local pub for food and it was 10/10, everyone in the area was lovely and hospitable! The hosts were such friendly salt of the earth people, literally made you feel at home, so welcoming and attentive. We got to help ourselves in the little out kitchen and make Breakfast in the morning, we were joined by some lovely majestic Turkeys, hilarious hens, the cuuuuutest cats and even a random sheep! We’re going back! We recommend it, and for those who love the country, love that outdoors vibe and raw earthy feel, this is for you! Book now, enjoy as much as we did :-) Thanks again so much Rich and Hester. See you soon x x

My home is near Blackwood 10 miles from Caerphilly in Cwm Argoed, 1 mile from the Maes Manor hotel, 1 mile from Pen Y Fan pond. It is a large bungalow which has a wood burner in the main room. 2 bedrooms available (1 double, 1 single with a pullout that makes a double). There is a short tight lane to get to the village, I work full time please check for check in times. If there are 2 guests booking and they would like both rooms please contact for details.
Large detached bungalow set in a quiet semi rural location just 1 mile from The Maes Manor hotel which makes my location idea for people attending functions at the hotel. The location is only 2 miles from the former mining town of Blackwood, 1 mile from Pen Y Fan pond which is ideal for walking and picnics, and 1.5 miles from a large caravan park, 10 miles from the historic town of Caerphilly (with good public transport links), 16 miles from the Brecon beacons andonly 20 miles from Wales' capital city of Cardiff. There are good public transport links to Cardiff with trains running regularly from the local train station (3 miles to station). There is off road parking in my private drive for up to 2+1 cars.
The neighbourhood is a small hamlet in a quiet cul-de-sac. Being quite remote, access is via a lane where you turn into a small terrace, go past 12 terraced houses to 6 detached private houses at the end of the road (so you can as much noise as you like!).

  • Jeff's place is a home not a hotel . As a 53 year old female traveling alone I felt safe and at ease with Jeff and Freya the Spaniel . I love dogs so the combination of a dog and shag pile carpets didn't bother me but some people may feel differently . Jeff had plenty of great tips for days out and local sights . The bungalow is in a cul de sac at the bottom of a steep valley with forest on all sides and a river that can be heard from the bedroom . There are plenty of forest trails to walk and again I felt at ease wandering around for the 2 weeks I stayed , the locals are very friendly and helpful .There is a bus stop on top of the hill with busses every hour or so , Cardiff is easy to get to by bus , a Mega bus ticket can be bought from the driver for £28 and is valid for one week and covers from Cardiff and Newport in the south to the Brecon Beacons and around to the north . Jeff's place is in-between the two , culture and nature , something for everyone .There are plenty of shops 2 miles away in Blackwood , up the hill to catch the bus , this was also a pleasant walk on a mostly level asfalt path surrounded by trees and with great views over the valley . This was my first Airbnb stay , easy to book and honest reviews of what to expect . I already have plans to come back again next year . Thank you again for everything .

  • We only stayed at Jeff's for a single night, but it was as relaxed as if we had been visiting for years. He is a great host and happy to provide where he can. The house is well set up, clean and easy to find. We had both rooms and found the beds very comfy. Freya the spaniel is also a sweetie, and helped with the homely feel. Thank you so much Jeff and Freya!!

We stayed over the weekend when storm Dennis was hitting Wales. If you want to know about Welsh attractions, history or beautiful places to visit, I have a wealth of knowledge as my work has involved me travelling to all corners of Wales over the last 20 years.
It's a quiet residential area - a small development of 30 x 1960s bungalows and houses off a terraced road of miner's cottages, close to a main road, a rail station and bus stops. There is a country park 5 - 10 minutes walk away with level walks/cycle paths through the woods and wildflower meadows and more challenging walks over the hills. The park has a great viewpoint of several valleys and miles of countryside at it's highest point, as well as the largest earth sculpture in Britain (Sultan the pit pony). There are several takeaways - Indian, Chinese, kebabs, fish and chips and pizzas, within a ten minute walk, including some who deliver. There are two Indian restaurants, an Italian cafe (daytimes), a pub which serves British food, and another pub which serves Thai food and British food, and two great coffee shops, all within ten minutes walk of the house.
  • Another perfect stay at Adrienne’s. Always so hospitable and welcoming.

  • Located in a cute little town nearby Cardiff. Room was very clean and nice.

    Timo2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 2 nights in Adrienne's home, picked for it's location just up the road from an event we were visiting. It is a lovely place, spotlessly clean, with everything you could need during a stay. We were given freedom to use the well equipped kitchen and bathroom (with a walk in shower). On arrival there were chocolate brownies and sponge cake for us, along with milk (and special order goats milk) in the fridge for us. The whole house is filled with very nice artefacts, many made by Adrienne herself, there is a pleasant natural feel to the whole place. It is a handy location just minutes from the main A470 for the M4 or Brecon Beacons. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of parking space outside, we took advantage of the off road space to park my partners motorbike, I sat in the garden and had a coffee, the shower worked nicely, it was all there, just right, and still very much a home, as opposed to the pseudo apartments that so many people try and get wrong. Adrienne's home is just right for a few days in the area and highly recommended.

  • Every couple months or so I have work in the area and have been staying with Adrienne for these weeks for about a year now and it’s always lovely to be back. I stayed in the double room for a couple of nights this time as another guest was in the single room for the first night of my booking. This room was really lovely and comfortable with plenty of storage space. As always a perfect stay.

    Georgina2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location is brilliant, close to the train station and the centre of town, everything is within walking distance, including Penallta Parc. Adrienne was a lovely host, providing us with really helpful hints and info on places to visit, travel options and the researching of our family history which was the purpose of ur trip. Also.... I accidently left my mobile at the house when I returned home to Cornwall, Adrienne was brilliant and popped it straight in the post to me, which I was very grateful for! Would totally recommend this accommodation and Adrienne.

  • This is definitely my best AirBnB experience so far! Adrienne is an amazing host! She picked us up at the Ystrad Mynach station and welcomed us with homemade Welsh cake. She also provided us with unlimited tea and coffee. The room was clean, cozy, and beautiful. If I come back to Wales in the future I will definitely choose to stay at Adrienne’s home again!

Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the metallurgical and extractive industries of the area, along with the development of the canals and railways, provided the impetus to the expansion of Pontypool and its surrounding villages and communities. its very green here and we love out doors stuff like shooting fishing and mountain biking.. the walks are bracing or leisurely based on your inclination and the people are really friendly the outlying areas vary from the true Valleys where Tom Jones was born to buzzy Abergavenny and Ask

  • Arrived to find Danny waiting , even though I was later than planned Warm welcome and showed me where everything was. Been a very techno home it was funny when the lights came on as you entered a room Very clean and great location..

  • Danny is an exceptionally good host. Warm, friendly and welcoming. His home is quirky, light and full of charm. Clean and tidy, with everything you could need from a stay. Danny himself is full of positive energy and has plenty of wonderful tales. He'd saved me from a last minute cancellation with another host and I am so glad, as staying at Danny's turned out perfectly. When I arrived I had a flat tyre and he fixed that for me as I am a bit useless with punctures. Communication was prompt and always pleasant in texts. His home is situated in a quiet suburb, with a shop just a short walk up through the paths and the hills are not far if you wish to explore. It's about 40 minutes walk to the station which takes you up to lovely Abergavenny and beyond the Brecon Beacons, worth a visit. I'd highly recommend Danny as a host to anyone needing a home from home in a quiet and safe environment.

    Gabrielle2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Before booking I read Danny's reviews. They all said what a great host he is and I have to say they are correct. I booked the day before and was lucky to find Danny's place. Can't be faulted.

    Nigel2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • In addition to the lovely friendly welcome I received, I would also like to add that as a woman staying away on her own I can particularly recommend Danny’s place. I felt safe and secure.

    Siân2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic little smart house owned by a generous, friendly guy. I booked this an hour before turning up at 9pm on a Friday night on a whim. Danny was still able to get everything ready for me even though he thought he had the night off! He picked me up from the nearby car park to walk me to the house, (only 1min walk) and the check in process was quick and easy. We stayed up talking for ages and there Danny was making up cups of tea and offering biscuits at 11pm! I’m sure he would’ve left us to it if we wanted but we were a bunch of chatterboxes hanging out in the kitchen. The house was clean and had good facilities including a smart TV in the bedroom. He asked what I wanted for breakfast and went out and bought me food for the morning, and offered to let us take fresh eggs, Welsh cakes and the bread he bought home. Located 15mins to Newport, it was a good location. I’d definitely recommend a stay to anyone, as a young (ish) female solo traveller I felt completely safe and comfortable here. Thanks Danny! See you again sometime I’m sure!

  • I would highly recommend linda as a host. My daughter and her friend stayed with Linda for 6 nights while they were attending a summer intensive. Her hospitality was that of utmost excellence. The girls felt very comfortable and relaxed at Linda's. She helped them with all the information they needed to get about Newport. The girls said it was like home from home. Which for a parent it is comforting to know they are ok. They will definitely be in contact with Linda if they are in the area again. Many thanks Linda for everything.

You are less than half hour from Newport, and less than an hour from Brecon Beacons National Park, or Cardiff. There is a lot to see and do in the local area, have a look at 'visit Monmouthshire' or 'visit Caerphilly' or 'visit Cardiff' websites. There is a lot of castles, areas of natural beauty, walking and cycling paths, and museums and old towns. I also could recommend some lovely pubs and farm shops in the area!
  • Great to stay with Vanessa and Tom once again, lovely 0lace and fab hosts! Looking forward to next time

  • Vanessa and Tom both very welcoming and friendly. Their home is very clean and tidy with lovely views over the valley. Well worth a visit..

    David2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • I arrived, bedraggled after cycling from Bristol. Vanessa and Tom are perfect hosts and helped me settle in, in my tired state. I only stayed one night and found them very accommodating. The house is very much as described with a large kitchen/diner with tea/coffee etc and a continental help yourself breakfast, ready for you in the morning. A large double bedroom with nice bedding and towels and a spacious/modern bathroom. Nice and quiet at night so I think you are assured a good nights sleep. The house is an attractive Victorian looking house, elevated with long views across the valley. Can't fault, thank you guys!

    Ian2019-07-17T00:00:00Z

  • What a view! It was soo hard to get out of bed while enjoying the view that Nancy was kind enough to let us check out late! Great location in a very peaceful setting away from it all.

  • Lovely rural Mountain retreat that provided a great base for day trips. Everything we needed was provided and more. Spotlessly clean and couldnt be more relaxing.

    Tracey2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place is beautiful and peaceful. Amazing for nature lovers. Though we stayed for only one night, would love to stay again for longer period. Nancy is a super host.

  • A beautiful getaway. Detailed directions, great facilities, so clean, beautiful views. Couldn’t have asked for more. A wonderful host !

    Jack2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy was so welcoming, lots of extra touches like fresh eggs and get comms. The accommodation was super clean and very cute. Very rural and you probably need a car. The local village wasn’t that cute though...facilities a bit limited and pubs didn’t serve food on Saturday for lunch.

    Jo2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a quite remote place this will definitely be for you , A little daunting first time going up the mountain but well worth it when you’re at the top

    Gary2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful stay! Nancy was very accommodating, there was food for breakfast and if you need anything Nancy would help in any way she could. Dispite the weather views were beautiful and we enjoyed how cosy our accommodation was, with reliable heating. I would stay here again is a good location to drive to the national park, Newport and Cardiff. 🙂

    Stephanie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Nancy’s place! Sadly the weather was awful but Nancy greeted us from the car with a nice big umbrella and as soon as we were in, it was lovely and warm and cosy! Fresh eggs were left for breakfast and Nancy was very helpful in her local knowledge and helped us to find a takeaway that would deliver! The roads up the mountain are pretty steep but more than worth it for what I should imagine are beautiful views on a clear day! 10/10 would stay again!

My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).
The lodge is in the grounds of our home with a good size double bedroom and a cosy living room with wood burner.
Situated in a small village but within easy reach of the Brecon brecons and 45 mins from Cardiff . The local neighbourhood has a lot to offer in the way of outdoor adventures and history. Fishing, camping, biking ,climbing ,walking , paragliding are amongst the most popular to do things.
  • Good accommodation in the heart of the Welsh Valleys, 10 minutes walk to a pub and public transport. Small shop in village, 5 minutes by car from big supermarket. Nice friendly host and hostess. To really appreciate the area you need transport, you can drive to Cardiff, Brecon Beacons, Airport and South Wales coast in an hour.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. Andrew and Emma were fantastic; great value for money, would recommend and we hope to return ourselves.

    Susan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful welcome of a roaring fire, milk and welsh cakes! We arrived late from a long trip down but we could get straight in and rest up in the warmth. Loverly couple who were always quick to respond. Place heated up quite quick and plenty notes of suggestions to eat, visit or walk. Great escape from the city but close enough to a Morrison's, fuel and shops. One warning is for those with a lower car like a sports car, there is a mighty steep hill to get up the way we entered the street which our Ford Estate just edged up/down without scraping. Is impressive to see but we also took our Z3 and would have had to park at bottom haha! Perfect little spot to escape the world from.

    Mark2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this place during the Xmas week and loved it. Andrew and Emma are very warm friendly easy to talk to people. On arrival, Andrew had already made a fire in the cutest wood burner and the Xmas lights were on too. That's was exastly what I needed after hiking and shopping. I was on a solo holiday and Emma offered very kindly to bring me a Xmas meal. Been a foodie I already planed my cooking but it was still so nice of Emma. The place is very easy to find and walks to PYF and the board on PYB just about 30min away. It's a great location for many walks of all level of difficulty and kind (hilltops, reservoirs, forest, etc). Andrew and Emma checked regularly to see if all is OK or need anything. I won't hesitate to recommend them. The kitchen is well equipped. Very good bed. Decent shower and plenty of products (hand-wash, shampoo, shower gel etc)

  • We loved staying at Rachel's place. This self-contained studio is warm and inviting, with lots of interesting touches of African decor. It has everything you could want and is comfortable and spacious enough for a single traveller or a couple. It's located very conveniently for Cwmcarn Forest. Rachel was a wonderful host, very communicative, helpful, and inviting. We would love to stay here again and would recommend others to do the same!

Lovely African furnishings, a comfy bed, everything you need all in one space! A wonderful place to stay and Rachel was very welcoming and easy to communicate and arrange check-in with. Thanks!

    Miriam2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel was again most wellcomming host, her place is ideal for my biking trips. Great views from the landing.

    Roman2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you get a chance to stay in this lovely place, TAKE IT! The space has everything you need but you will probably spend most of your time sat on the balcony looking at the beautiful views. The bed is lovely and comfy, the fridge and cooking equipment are perfect for making dinner and the shower was beautifully clean. Rachel was a perfect host, present but not intrusive and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely stay again.

    Stella2019-06-23T00:00:00Z

Entrance steps into Studio are quiet steep and shower quite narrow so may not suit those with mobility issues. Very good value and Rachel is a great host. Will hopefully stay again when in area.

My home is near Blackwood 10 miles from Caerphilly in Cwm Argoed, 1 mile from the Maes Manor hotel, 1 mile from Pen Y Fan pond. It is a large bungalow which has a wood burner in the main room. 1 double bedroom available. There is a short tight lane to get to the village, I work full time please check for check in times
  • Jeff is an incredibly welcoming host; I felt right at home and nothing was too much effort. His house is in a lovely quiet location right near the Oakdale Business Parks and has plenty of parking space. Freya the spaniel was an added bonus. I’d happily recommend this AIRBNB to anyone.

This is a lovely double bedroom in a terraced house. The large double has views up the hills towards Abercarn. There is a desk that can be used as a workspace, and a kettle for light refreshments. There is a shared bathroom, with a shower. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen / dining area and the main lounge, and the arrangements for this can be discussed when guests check in. Please note: This room is in a private home and cannot be guaranteed allergen free.
The room has a double bed, with views overlooking the hills to Abercarn. There is a work space in the room, and a kettle and cups for refreshments. This room can be booked with the twin room, and is perfect for a family, or as a private space. The host is a practising artist, who works from home, so the house is filled with individual, unique and creative pieces. The panoramic landscape of the valley provides inspiration and many pieces have been inspired by the hills around the area, and this is reflected in the house and gardens. I provide a continental style breakfast, with choice of fresh fruit, plain yoghurt, croissants and toast, and of course tea and coffee. Please let me know if you have any dietary intolerance. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen / dining area and the main lounge, and the arrangements for this can be discussed when guests check in. Please contact me if you have any specific requirements
This is a small village in the Ebbw Valley very close to the Forest Drive, walking and mountain biking trails and the stunning Sirhowy Valley walks. Cwmcarn Forest offers something for all the family. The visitor centre provides a selection of gifts and homewares; as well as finding out about what you can do in the area. It is the destination for all you downhill adrenaline junkies, with a steep climb at the start followed by a rollercoaster decline with dramatic views of the Bristol channel and surrounding hills. There are also many walks in the area, depending on how far you would like to go.

  • We had a lovely stay with Linda. She was an amazing host who makes you feel at home. We were with our daughter and Linda was accommodating to our needs, I am very grateful for that. And the village was amazing, we met a variety of people whom just wanted us to join them. The local pub is unique and would worth coming to visit. I recommend

old miners cottage, in the heritage village of Blaenavon, at the foot of the Brecon Beacons national park. Ideal for history enthusiasts, walkers and water sports. The cottage is self-catering with a modern kitchen and shower room. It has central heating, a coal effect gas fire. Pets are welcome but will incur an additional charge, there is a secure garden. Bedding will be provided for the main beds, but sleeping bags are required for the 2 bed chairs. Towels and toiletries are not provided.
One of the oldest cottages in the village, with views of the mountains out of the kitchen window.
Blaenavon is an old village and used to be a mining and ironworks area. There are museums and many attractions in the area depicting these industries. It's also in the Brecon Becon national park with a great many walking trails and out door activities
  • Lovely little miner's cottage, centrally located to walk into town and many of Blaenavon's attractions, but also easy to get into the National Park or a trip to Cardiff. Well equipped cottage with many thoughtful extras which take it above the ordinary.

  • Unfortunately due to our dog being unwell we had to cancel last minute so didn’t actually get a chance to stay but Josephine’s communication, understanding and response time to questions was excellent. May rebook for future:)

  • A real gem. Warm and cosy and immaculately clean. Close to shops and two really excellent restaurants. Josephine responded really quickly to any queries we had and our dog Charlie was also made to feel welcome, with a dog basket and toys provided! Would highly recommend

  • Josephine’s cottage has everything you need for a walking trip to Wales. It’s a warm and cosy home with a nice fire in the family room. There’s a clean and tidy kitchen with all basic equipment needed to prepare meals, has a great shower, and comfy beds. The village has plenty of interesting places to visit, Big Pit and the Iron Works being particular favourites. With good basic shops and supermarkets near by.

  • The cottage was a pleasant surprise in the heart of Blaenavon with wonderful outdoor drives and activities for the family. The host was very quick with communication and support where needed. We enjoyed our stay. Thanks Josephine.
