Spend a night or two 'off the Grid' (no Power) in our self-catering Genuine Mongolian Yurt. A unique experience and less than 1 hour from Auck Airport. Beaut swimming beach only a few mins drive then relax under the stars in a gorgeous 100 yr old outdoor bath (SORRY THE BATH IS OUT OF ACTION TEMPORARILY WHILST THERE IS A FIRE BAN IN PLACE. feb 2020)
The Yurt is tastefully decorated with quality furnishings. A wonderful camping experience with all the luxuries of home. Relax and enjoy a steamy hot bath outside under the stars in a gorgeous 100 yr old bath heated by way of an old copper, wood fired, water boiler. A clear dome adorns the top of the Yurt so you can enjoy the stars on a clear night from the super comfortable queen size bed. At the moment we do not have hot running water but there is an indoor shower (cold) which is very refreshing in those hot summer days.
We are situated only 50 mins south of Auckland CBD. Take a beautiful drive through the quaint little village of Clevedon which hosts a number of craft shops and has a local Farmers market every Sunday morning. Then travel on through Kawakawa bay towards Orere Point. Our property boarders on to one of Aucklands most beautiful Regional Parks - Tapapakanga which has a lovely sandy swimming beach and is a great fishing spot. Tapapakanga is situated on the north western shores of the Firth of Thames. This coast is also known as the Sea Bird Coast and is popular with Birdwatchers from all around the world. It is also part of the Kayak Trail - starting from Maraetai and finishing in Waharau. You can complete the whole 4 day trail or just have a leisurely paddle around the shoreline exploring all the hidden little coves. A five min drive takes you to a very popular fishing spot - The Mussel farms off Matinagarahi Beach. Your boat can be launched from here directly from the beach with a 4 wheel drive or there are two Boat Ramps within 15 kms either direction. Kawakawa Bay Boat ramp is accessible in all tides and Kaiaua Boat ramp You can take leisurely 30 min coastal drive south through Kaiaua to the Miranda Hot Pools which are Natural Mineral pools. A 50 min drive south and you can explore the Thames Market which is held on a Sat morn. Thames township is the beginning of the Coromandal Peninsular which has a rich history of Gold mining and has many attractions that are well worth visiting.
  • Magical space!! The Yurt and the environment that it is located in is superb, it feels authentic and magical. Josy knows how to decorate and has immaculate taste in furnishings. It’s styled magically and the bed is like sleeping in a 5star hotel while getting the glamping experience.

  • Amazing place for a night away from all the noise. Bath a really great touch and the bed is amazingly comfortable too

    Henry2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved the place, truly amazing. Was wonderful sitting in the tub looking up at the stars late at night with only the sound of crickets. Fantastic experience and one will never ever forget. Josy's response to us staying only a few days before was pleasantly prompt especially as it was a bank holiday weekend. Would highly recommend!

  • What a great get away place! Private, peaceful, and very beautiful. The yurt was so amazing, the bed comfortable, and our host was wonderful. When we first arrived it was really warm inside the yurt, but no worries, it cools off by nightfall, so hang out on the deck and enjoy the view or hike to the beach through the bush, cow and sheep pastures. No electricity or hot water but that is part of the adventure!

Our place is less then 5 minutes walk to the beach. We are less then 10 minutes drive to Clevedon Oyster Farm, and less then 45 minutes to Auckland Airport. We are close to a few regional parks. We are 15 minutes drive from Clevedon cafe’s and restaurants.
We have 2 queen size beds in each room. You have your own bathroom and we will supply towels and linen.
We live in a very quiet street. There is a farm on one side of my house where the sheep come up close to the fence.
  • I spent a quick night here while driving south through Auckland and it did not disappoint. The space was clean, well decorated and comfortable and Toni was very welcoming and nice. The room is in a very nice, modern house in a nice neighborhood. I arrived around 6pm and left around 6am but I very much enjoyed my stay :)

    Rudy2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super quiet place, beautiful rural outlook just a short walk from the beach. The room is spacious, light and elegant.

    Ruth2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • I had a good stay with Toni and her daughter. The house is very clean, the bedroom is spacious and bright. The beach is a few meters from the house. I recommend this accommodation and I will come back without hesitation. Thank you for everything Toni.

    Lisa2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We booked very last minute for a stay at Toni's and she responded straight away. The place is stylish inside and very clean (I love your decor!). The bed is comfy with nice linen and also guest towels. The shower is hot and powerful. We are newish to the homestay/shared living environment but Toni and her daughter are very relaxed about you staying and the area of the house that air bnbers stay in is quite private too. Their German Shephard is a little boisterous while you are at the properties perimeter but as soon as you get close turns into a big softie who loves a stroke. I recommened this property to other NZ travellers :)

    Briony2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Toni has a beautiful house very clean and tide, and an amazing dog who is lovely and friendly We enjoyed our stay very much and we spend a couple of sunny days in Kawa Kawa Is an amazing place to relax and enjoy the nature ! A truth kiwi experience! Definitely we will love to come back!

  • Bruce's place was great! Next to his house but very private and even has the same great view that his place does. Very comfortable beds and well stocked kitchenette and use of the hot tub is especially awesome. Also really appreciate the helpful signage at the bottom of the road:)

    Meagan2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Bruce's place has gorgeous views of the water and provides the perfect spot to watch the sunset as you tuck into an al fresco dinner. Bruce is very hospitable, communication was easy and the check-in/check-out process a breeze.

    Alice (And Tim!)2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Bruce was warm and friendly and very welcoming. His place was in a beautiful spot over looking the sea with comfortable beds and everything we needed in the kitchenette. The hot tub was also an added bonus. Highly recommended.

    Helen2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Cairdys Retreat. It is in a beautiful spot - the views from the outdoor area are unreal, and the stars are so clear at night. The unit is just as you would expect from the photos, and Bruce is a great host.

  • A spacious, airy cabin, on a hillside with views of the sea and surrounding fields. It's furnished functionally and comfortably. Immaculately clean. Bruce allows guests use of the main house deck and hot tub with lovely views. We only stayed one night and found it very relaxing. Bruce was welcoming and helpful. Would definitely go back.

A very spacious two bedroom house has been newly renovated and sits on a huge 900m2 section backing on to a farm on a quiet no exit street. Located in the tranquil seaside community of Kawakawa Bay a mere 45 minutes drive from Auckland Airport. Get a glimpse of the shore from the new under cover deck. Plenty of parking for the boat and space for the kids to run around. Walking distance to the beach, with many great walking tracks and safe swimming beaches nearby.
The nightly price is for 2 people. Add $30 per additional person per night. Infants under 2 stays free. The house can sleep a max of 6 people. Bedroom one has a queen bed and Bedroom 2 has a double bunk (double on the bottom and single on top) and a King Single bed set up. You will have the entire property to yourself for the duration of your stay. Enjoy cooking in a fully equipped kitchen complete with coffee machine. Condiments and spices and breakfast basics provided along with all the basics you don't want to be buying when on holiday. Outdoor cooking set up is a 6 burner gass FLAT Barbeque ideal for cooking breakfast or a fry up. Also a two burner gass BBQ. Both under cover. For nights you don't want to cook, the local Dairy sells award winning fish and chips or, take a short 10minute drive to Clevedon Village for restaurant dining.
Enjoy the peace and quiet this property has to offer and enjoy looking at the stars at night or explore the many wonderful places nearby by day. Regional parks, Tapapapanga, Waharau and Waitawa are some of the local gems. Pick up Cockles at the end of the street during low tide, or wheel the kayaks down at high tide. Protected bay ideally suited to launch jet ski or small boats. There are two boat launches in Kawakawa bay, one is a free public ramp accessible at high tide and the other is Kawakawa Bay boat club with excellent facilities and can be used for a small fee. This is a real slice of New Zealand paradise less than an hour from Auckland City central.
  • Brilliant stay and lovely hosts. Wouldn't hesitate to book again or recommend. A beautiful and clean home with lots of charming details (we loved the spoons as cupboard door handles!) and the location cant be beaten! Best of all was walking up to the sound of the birds, amazing views of the night sky with such little light pollution and being steps away from the beach. Our kids loved it here too. We were sad to leave.

A magic place on the shores of Firth of Thames at Kaiaua. This is a great place to bring the extended family and enjoy a space that has been setup for 2 - 10 guests. There is a store and service station plus a great hotel 8km south at the Kaiaua village. Great fishing just off the beach and swimming in the summer. Might need water shoes. This is a real kiwi holiday Bach. The accommodation is made of 1 dormitory (sleeps 4) 1 large caravan (sleeps 3) plus small caravan (sleeps 3).
We can accommodate any number up to 10. It’s a real kiwi Bach environment. Designed to give that camping feeling with mod cons. Two showers one outdoor under cover. Two toilets and washing machine. Large undercover dining area.
Great fishing and we can help you find the spots. Miranda hot pools are just down the road and are worth a visit.

  • Delightful welcoming hosts! Its real Kiwi Beach Bach living with a boat ramp for easy access and cooling off dip in the Ocean! Great communication, clean and everything is there you need for a relaxing and very authentic New Zealand Holiday/ or short break experience. Gorgeous set up and an eye for the special details all over the property. I absolutely loved it! Will be back, thanks so much Kathy and Wally!

    Tina2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • An absolute gem on the coast road. The perfect kiwi bach that has everything you need. So much room, super comfy bed, beachfront and amazing generous hospitality. We were able to park our boat right out front of our house, heaps of room to park and turn. This place has so much character, you can't help but relax. The house is super spotlessly clean and geared up with everything you need. Love it and can't wait to return. Thank you to you both

    Sal2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous, unassuming accommodation in the most beautiful of settings. Lovely welcoming hosts to boot. We’d go back in a heartbeat!

  • Costa Lotta is full of such unique character, would highly recommend this place. The pictures shown don’t do it justice for what a truly great place this is. With the beachside right at the back, this place offered gorgeous views, a prime spot for a quick swim, as well as seclusion and privacy. The beds were comfortable and there was ample space for everyone to relax freely. Kathy and Wally were incredible hosts, very welcoming. The caravans offered a unique experience, it is all fully self contained and had all the comforts of a home. There is an outdoor hot shower for coming straight off the beach and a spa inside as well. The water in the bay was warm and calm but the beach itself is quite rocky. Costa Lotta is of small town charm!

    Eesha2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Location is great. Large pretty garden and seashore just in front of the house. Kind hosts and neighbors were so impressive.

    승현2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy's place is one of those that you will find yourself comfortable and familiar with. The whole atmosphere is that of a family home and the little things here and there that you find will certainly be a little blast from the past experience. The caravan is not the only special thing about her house. Her personality is really sweet and nice and very friendly:)

  • My friends and I had such a great stay at Kerry’s place! The property is stunning with an amazing garden and lots of spaces to sit and enjoy outside. The kitchen is well stocked for necessities, and there are plenty of CDs to enjoy. Like most homes in NZ, there wasn’t air conditioning but we were perfectly comfortable with the ability to open so many doors and windows and by having two fans! We also loved that we could walk a short distance to a nice and uncrowded beach. We definitely recommend this getaway home.

    Kawakawa Bay, Auckland, New Zealand

Nestled in the Kawakawa Bay valley, Sticky Beak Creek is a picturesque two acre property with a native bush clad stream (creek) winding past, newly planted orchards and three paddocks that surround the house where sheep and Tina the miniature horse live. There are also free ranging ducks and chickens, and Elsa the dog. This is Sticky BeakCreek. Come and enjoy.
Spend your day quietly, enjoying the gardens and grounds, hand feeding the animals, paddling in the creek or hanging out in the hammock down in the orchard. Relax on the deck summer and winter either in the sun or the star filled night as the chiminea glows. Or take a tour of all the beautiful beaches, scenic reserves and outdoor sports available close by. Kaiaua and the best fish and chips in New Zealand, the Seabird Coast and Miranda hot springs are on the door step.
  • Definitely book here you won't regret it! Denise has an amazing place that you don't get the full scope of until you get there. A completely organic garden, plenty of land and lots of friendly animals. Her dog Elsa is gorgeous and likes being taken on walks. There is a private room for a game of pool and a drink. In the morning you get freshly made bread with an array of homemade jams/preserves to choose from. Such a great location with an easy walk down to the beach. Bed is super comfortable with fresh linen and plenty of pillows. Denise is really friendly but also lets you do your own thing and treat the house like its yours. Will hopefully get to go back one day.

    Madeline2018-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Denise has a charming farm with lots of friendly animals. She offers wonderful hospitality and generous accommodations. The location is still close enough to Auckland city centre, we were able to easily make day trips into the city.

  • Denise is a lovely host (was very comprehensive about us arriving late) and her place is immaculate! We've stayed in many different Airbnb's around the world and finding one so clean with a super comfy bed is hard! This one ticks all boxes. Definitely recommend it !

  • AMAZING!

  • This is one of the most beautiful houses we have ever found on Airbnb. The view of Kawakawa Bay is amazing and the whole design of the house made the whole experience to a next level. My family and I had the most relaxing two days in our trip! Will definitely come back again!

    Carol2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, great amentities & beautiful view. Lots of privacy. We went with our 3 kids ( 3 to 5yo) and this house worked well with them (although we couldn't use the top bunk beds due to no safety railing). The garden isn't fully fenced so kids need to be watched or old enough to not run away. Overall, we had a prefect relaxing stay and highly recommend this place!

    Amelie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning place nestled on the hill with amazing views over the bay. Would highly recommend this place to relax and unwind, so well equipped with everything you need!

  • A beautiful house in a stunning location. We spent a week there and were very happy. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. We had a look at many Auckland houses (okay, this is a bit outside Auckland), and I definitely think we made the right choice.

  • Beautiful place to escape with the family!

    Madelaine2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning and spacious home with beautiful views of kawakawa bay. This place was around a 15 minute drive to our wedding venue at Kauri Bay Boomrock and its enormous and bright living area was perfect for getting ready for the big day. The home was so tranquil, surrounded by bush and native kawakawa. We really enjoyed the outdoor shower and the indoor shower with a floor to ceiling glass panel with a view out to the bay. Such a beautiful home and I would love to come back to stay again.

  • A perfect location to stop for a while and enjoy all that Sue's home and property offer; superb location, peaceful and the trees around her property are home to so many gorgeous birds

  • A gem in the bush, well worth the extra 5 mins if gravel road to get there. Has it’s own bush walk but close to a park entry. Very friendly paws, fabulous views north to the gulf, good verandah amenities and great hostess to top it as a stay. Loved it.

    Jenny2019-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • What can we say. Total Bush paradise with beautiful native trees as far as the eye can see, and bird song to die for. the vie over the Pohutukawa coast is breath taking too with the best Hostess ever and a brilliant breakfast all thrown in too.. if your wanting to see NZ at its best only 45 minuets from the CB and airport this is it.

    Sarah2019-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for the amazing stay. Your property is really a gem and we were honored that you have shared it with us. We especially liked the healthy breakfast (fresh fruit salad) and the super new large bathroom.

    Tobias2019-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sue is a very kind and hospitable host. We had a lovely bedroom with a very good bed and our own (brandnew) bathroom. We could use the kitchen and sit anywhere we wanted. We were surprised by the nice breakfast that is included. The view from the deck is beautiful. We can definitely recommend this place.

This room is medium sized with one king single and one single bed, tallboy and double wardrobe. It has pretty rural views.
Kawakawa Bay has two main beaches seperated by Whitford Point with a wide expanse looking out to the islands of Chamberlins and Waiheke. The water is shallow making it a safe swimming beach. There's plenty of parking along the beach front and at Whitford Point Reserve. Further along Coast Rd, past the boat ramps (where there's also a bait and tackle shop), are other pretty beaches and further around the headland, at the end of the road, is the secluded, deep water beach of Waiti Bay. From here, at low tide you can hike around the rocks and over the bush track to the beautiful Tawhitakino Beach Reserve.
  • Great place to stay, very handy to 440 MTB park and the beach.

    Caroline2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Denise and Elsa are super nice and sweet. Denise gave me nice and good advice about my journey here, and turns out those suggestions are owesome. I am so lucky and grateful to meet good good people in New Zealand just like 7 years ago. good to know the whole land, the? animals, the garden, the creek.... everything is wonderful. then here goes the boy:"I don't want the dog Elsa leave, and I really love Elsa. and now I really miss Elsa. and maybe Elsa is missing me."

  • If you’re looking for a place away from everything but still within a reasonable distance to Auckland you’ll love Denise’s place. Denise is a great host and will make you feel comfortable in her house. Can’t go wrong here especially when you love animals.

    Brigit2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place, great hospitality, warm welcome. It was nice to stay with Denise. Loved Elsa the dog and all the other animals. The room was beautiful, just like te house! When we are around... We'll definitely stop by again!!

  • Great location for anyone who wants to see the natural beauty of Kawakawa Bay. Absolutely wonderful and welcoming home, with beautiful scenery and lots of comfort. We were treated to homemade bread and preserves each morning, as well as a picturesque spot amongst the flowers and sunshine to eat it! Denise was an exceptional host, so easy to talk to and accomodating. Big thanks to her to waiting up for us when our flight into Auckland was late. Everything was incredibly clean and comfortable - absolutely no complaints here! We fell in love with the gorgeous dog Elsa, the miniature horse, the ducks and geese and all the sheep.

  • I had a week at Kathy's place on a 'working holiday', i.e. still had to do work but could do it remotely. I was initially apprehensive about not having sufficient reception for mobile data but I didn't have any issues accessing 4G internet and hot-spotting for my laptop from anywhere on the property. The amenities were exactly what I needed for a getaway. There is so much character at this place, it really reminded me of all the bach trips I've done over the years. Being right on the waterfront you are treated to amazing views out to the Coromandel. Top-tip - grab a seat on the balcony with a mug of tea in the morning and soak up some rays. On a clear night, before the moon rises, you can spread out on the trampoline to do a spot of stargazing. Kathy and Wally are awesome hosts, even dropping by to give me some of their fresh and smoked snapper - hands down the best I've ever had! I had a bit of a cough while I was there and Kathy would periodically pop in to see how I was doing while being respectful that of my privacy and need to do work. Real manaakitanga. Totally recommend this place for an easy getaway. Will be back.

    Daniel2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • I was with two friends and we all agree the experience was incredible. The host's hospitality is outstanding. Kathy is excellent with people and will do a great job making you feel like home. The house and the caravans are clean and well equipped. Their attention to details is mesmerising. We could spend weeks to note each piece of decoration that gives the space a unique outlook. The kitchen is fully equipped. The beds are very comfortable. You'll find plenty of sitting space around the barbecue. There should be around 7+ beds split among the house and the two caravans. Also, 2 toilets and 1 shower. Since we were 3, we had no problem at all. Wi-fi is not available, so plan in advance to download your must-have playlists (be aware that some carriers won't offer coverage at all). Every space of the property invites you to do some different kind of activity. You can simply lay down under the sun at the front garden, reading one of the books from their lovely selection. You can have a good swim to refresh from a hot day (swimming shoes will help you go through the rocks). Enjoy a barbecue, play the pool with mates, run in the treadmill or do some jump sets in the trampoline if you feel like needing some extra sweating. Have a nice spa time in the whirlpool. It goes well with your favourite tunes, along with some bites and a bottle of wine for a decent late evening relaxing time. Moreover, take advantage of the dark skies at night (after lights are off) and go for some stargazing. There's also a TV/VHS(!)/DVD set for a movie night if that's your thing. As you noticed, there's gonna be something for everyone regardless if you're with your partner, or in a bigger group of friends or family. For the explorers that want to wander around the area, walk 10-15 minutes towards Waharau Regional Park and go for some tracks. My original idea was to go away from Auckland for some resting time and I couldn't be more thankful to Kathy for the great experience, in every aspect. She even shared some fresh-caught fish that made our Saturday lunch a very special one (we seasoned with some rosemary from her garden).

  • The stay at Kathy's and Wally's was more than great. Their hospitality was amazing! The house and the caravans are super clean and well equipped. In the kitchen is really everything you need and the beds are very comfortable. You can see the ocean from the kitchen window and have a lovely walk or swim there. The location is perfect for a family or a bigger group, because there is definitely something for everyone. There's a Barbecue, a pool table and a whirlpool. And not only our 5 year old had a lot fun with the trampoline and the playset. So thank you again for everything, including the delicious fresh caught fish! It was awesome! Definetely worth staying there!

Great place for relaxation as located in a relatively quiet area. • The view from Stephen's place is absolutely amazing! The place is quite big and at 5 adults we didn't feel cramped at all. The master is super large and has a walking wardrobe and a great ensuite where Tuis come singing on the tree branch just outside the bath. We will definitely be back!
