  • The cockle is a magical place. Our stay was more than I could have ever expected. The house is lovely, the music system is amazing, and the sunrise views were spectacular. We loved every minute of our stay and can hopefully return again:)

  • Lovely quirky wooden cottage with an uninterrupted view out to sea. Hot tub outside was great. Quite near the road but the traffic is no problem at all. Would highly recommend.

  • The Cockle is a special place to relax and unwind. We loved the unique hand built nature of the house and the bed was very comfortable. Ideally placed to explore the many beautiful locations in this part of Golden Bay.

    Clare2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Really loved the place. It is full of character and you can see how much effort and love went into building and decorating it. It felt homely and warm and I loved the proximity to the beach.

    Nicole2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A great rustic beach vibe! We felt very secluded even with the busy road because it's surrounded by bushes and trees. The views were awesome and the sunrise in the morning is beautiful. The compost toilet may be a turn off for some people but our advice is to try the place it's not a big deal. The hot water and shower are great after a day of fishing and tramping. We spent a week in the area and still didn't see everything. We'll be back!!!

    Steven2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Cockle is a beautifully presented, extremely clean and ideally placed beach cottage. Highly recommended.

    Ray2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Just as enchanting as it looks. We had a lovely few nights tucked away relaxing at The Cockle. Will be recommending to friends and family and will try to return someday!

Located on the grounds of the old Pakawau school which has been turned into the popular Old School Cafe, Restaurant and Bar. A 200m walk to the beautiful Pakawau beach and only 12kms from Collingwood. Farewell Spit is only another 12kms with the tour buses passing right by. Turn off to Whanganui inlet is just 2kms away. Tennis court available and the Pakawau shop across the road.
  • Lovely clean little cabin with a comfortable bed. Added bonus of a fridge and a TV. In a great location for exploring and the cafe had a great atmosphere on the Saturday evening I stayed with lots of locals chatting. Robbie was a great host and gave me some god tips.

    Michelle2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay at the end of New Zealand. A comfortable cabin with comfy bed, fridge to store food, coffee and tea and tv. All this at the doorstep to nature, beach and beautiful Farewell Spit. And at the end of the day a cold beer and meal at the only cafe around. Robbie is a great host and we would definitely go back.

    Annelies2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Clean cabin with decent fridge, toaster, hot water jug and TV. Queen bed is good. WiFi of reasonable speed for a camping ground. Ammenities are not personal but shared with restaurant, but clean and water didn't change temperature if you shower late evening or early morning. Hospitality very good and the cafe food is fresh simple pub type food presented nicely. I know that every bed these days has sheets and a duvet. This looks good and stylish but a sheet is not warm enough but adding a duvet is way too hot. Fortunately I am wise to this issue and take a light microfibre blanket and this is a necessary intermediary for many people like me. Make such a blanket available and the cabin is perfect. Cheers and Thanks!

  • We had such a wonderful stay at the School House Cabin! It was really well set up and tidy. We loved the location because we could get to see so much around Golden Bay. We will definitely be back again one day soon!

  • I had the most amazing stay here. The room was perfect for a quiet getaway and a perfect location for all the sightseeing I wanted to do 😊

    Kiri2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great wee spot to holiday. Perfect location just across from the beach. The cafe itself had excellent with good value food (I recommend the chicken and cranberry pizza) and Robbie was a friendly and knowledgeable host.

    Donna2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay in the Old School Cafe Cabin and I felt very comfortable. Would have loved to stay longer. The Cabin is totally cute and very clean and Robbie is a great host. I would definitely recommend it!

    Barbara2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Super nice little cabin in a beautiful location. The beach is only 100m away and it is only a short drive to farewell spit and some great hikes. The old school cafe also has a nice ambiance and good food.

  • Jennifer’s place is a wonderful get away from the crowds cabin. Don’t expect a rustic shed as it offers all the modern conveniences with many stylish features. A modern but small kitchenette ( with a hidden 2 pot cooktop ) was enough to prepare tasty meals. The lounge room had a comfortable lounge and table seating for 3 with a small tv but you don’t come here to watch tv. There are great rural views out of all the windows. The bed is large and firm with lovely sheets. Did I mention everything was spotless?! The tiny bathroom is located directly off the bedroom. Great shower pressure and temperature especially important if you have been hiking. We did not meet the host but all communication between us was quick.

  • This place is really beautiful! You get chance to enjoy Golden bay and yourself. I very appreciate style of the house and the peace what you can find here. Thank you once again!

  • Very nice and convenient cottage. Stylish & clean. Everything was there. The only thing i could think of what was missing, was wifi. But overall very lovely.

  • This is a lovely peaceful haven, close to Farewell Spit in Golden Bay. Private and sheltered setting with hammock and outdoor eating area. The house is small and thoughtfully designed: everything you need for a short stay. Beautiful linen, a good shower, kitchen amenities for simple cooking, country views from the windows, warm and comfortable. Also immaculately clean!

    Polly2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely would recommend a visit to Seaford Stay. The house is really lovely and is set in an awesome location that is lovely and private. It has everything you need, the bed is super comfortable with lovely linens, and the shower is powerful. Lots of lovely thoughtful touches and generally very well designed. The surrounding area is stunning, lots of great walks and plenty to do and see. Will definitely be back as there is so much more to explore. Thanks Jennifer, your hosting skills were great.

  • Kevin is a wonderful host who explains everything and takes good care of you. The appartment is comfy and spacious. Sitting outside on their porch with the beautiful view and the sun is also wonderful.

    Nico2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect an enthusiastic and open reception from Kevin and Elda. Plenty of local knowledge available and freely offered.

    Simon2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in the private room with the ensuite. Really comfortable and very quiet. I cooked my own dinner and there was everything available in the little kitchenette. The simple and homely atmosphere made extra special by Kevin's expert local knowledge and advice. I so enjoyed spending time here and would love to return.

  • Very cozy home and amazing local tips from Kevin ans Elda. Would love to stay again

    Krunal2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Kevin and Elda are great and knowledgeable hosts that know the ins and outs of the area. Kevin's energetic approach to welcoming us to the area really helped set the pace for our Golden Bay adventure. The space is comfortable, tidy and well maintained. All around great value and I highly recommend staying here if you ever get the chance.

    Nicolas2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Kevin was very warm and welcoming. He took the trouble to show us around and was good to talk to. Kevin also showed us some lovely walks to do and gave us freshly picked fruit from his trees. They are generous and trusting hosts with excellent communications. The room was clean and charming. A big comfy bed and en suite shower / toilet. The room is off a shared space where you can cook and eat, and there are some more bunks in there where you might meet other travellers staying, or your extended party could sleep, plenty of space (by arrangement with Kevin of course). It is a big eccentric space with art and books and WiFi available. The location is great for easy reach to amazing walks. We really loved our two night there and made lasting friends.

    Anna2020-02-01T00:00:00Z

  • Great location. We visited the second time and it won't be the last. We love the garden and the big web over the river.

  • I really can’t fault Opur cottage . Beautiful setting and lovely comfortable interior. Jonathan is definitely a super host

    Mary2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location amongst the forest in such a cute little cabin with all the amenities.

    Kyle2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the Opua cottage one night. The cottage was clean and the property had a nice barbecue and picnic area beside a brook. The ‘en-suite’ bathroom was private and brand new, but the entrance was on the side of the unit so you have to go outside on to the deck (covered) and then enter the bathroom. The host was easy going and around if needed. Nice relaxing place.

    Steven2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful property, the stream right next to the cottage adds a wonderfully serene feeling. The stars at night were mesmerizing and the location of this cottage is perfect - close to everything we wanted to do while in Golden Bay. Jonathan was quick to respond and both he and Katie were lovely to chat with offering good tips for restaurants and places to visit.

    Dawn2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Jonathan’s place in Golden Bay! The cottage was beautiful with lots of special touches. We loved the tranquility of the place and felt relaxed and recharged after our stay in the cottage. The place was located in a convenient for exploring Golden Bay. It was also one of the best places I have been to for star gazing! Definitely worth staying up to see. I can’t wait to come back and visit again soon!

    Sarah2020-01-23T00:00:00Z

Private - Well screened from neighbours. Kitchen super well set up though a bit light on the number of dinner plates (encouraged us to do the dishes more often!).

Pakawau, Nelson - Golden Bay, New Zealand

This is the place to stay if you want a true kiwi bach experience. The bach is in a perfect location to get to the best parts of Golden Bay. Sunny & warm, it is perfect for visits all year round. The bach is a wee bit quirky and shows it's history, but we are chipping away to make improvements all the time. A perfect place to relax or as an adventure base- only a 2 min walk away from the beautiful tidal beach. Pātiki: Flounder or flat
This is a historical and cozy bach has a rural outlook and is just a short stroll (2 mins)to the beach. A character bach that started life as a Mill worker’s hut, it has since been a holiday park cabin and home. It is now enjoyed as a holiday house, and is well equipped for your stay. Sunny & warm the bach is perfect for visits all year round. There is a new log burner with plenty of wood making it very cosy in winter. There is lots of outdoor furniture, board games, books, TV and DVD player, BBQ, and the kitchen is very well equipped. Pets are welcome and encouraged! The section is fully fenced. We just ask that you clean up after them & not let them on the furniture. Currently the bach can sleep 4-5 people comfortably (1 x Queen bed, 1 x double bed/with single bunk on top). We ask guests to bring their own sheets & pillowcases when possible. Guests are expected to clean & tidy the space on leaving- leaving it as it was found. We do not charge a cleaning fee.
The bach is a perfect location to get to the best parts of Golden Bay: Wharariki, Farewell Spit, Whanganui Inlet & Kaihoka lakes. There are many great walks and beaches nearby, good swimming spots at Pakawau Beach, along with abundant birdlife. The bach is also in the heart of Kingfish country - an incredible flats fishing experience and now an international fly fishing destination. The closest township of Collingwood is 10 minutes drive away, there is a friendly shop nearby at Pakawau campground which has a reasonable selection of food & beverages. The closest eating establishments are at the Farewell spit cafe (amazing views) & The Old school cafe. The legendary Mussel inn is approximately a 20 minute drive away.
  • Great little spot, perfect for a weekend getaway.

    Kelly2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Emma and Jacob's bach is awesome! 2 min walk down to the bach and the history within the bach and the surrounding area was really interesting to read up on! I also enjoyed bringing my doggo with me and having the security of knowing that one you could bring your dog and two the area was fully fenced. Bed was super comfy as well! 10/10 would recommend for the typical kiwi bach life experience : ) thanks again!

  • Although this is the first review, actually this place has been providing wonderful holidays to Golden Bay visitors for over ten years. I know this from the many pages of appreciative comments in the guest book! They must have been using other listing agencies and only just joined Airbnb. The location is brilliant and the place so well designed, built, equipped and decorated, it still looks and feels brand new. Absolute bliss!!

Watch the tide ebb and flow and the birds fly and forage from the living area or large deck of this bach with it's wonderful view over the Onekaka estuary. A 2 min walk over the causeway will bring you to the estuary entrance and the beachfront. Situated halfway between Takaka and Collingwood the location is perfect for exploring gorgeous Golden bay. For a refreshment afterwards the mussel Inn is a 3 min drive or a 15min walk away. There are 2 kayaks available to use
The bach is a comfy , recently renovated one bedroom, one bathroom space with kitchenette suitable for light cooking. Light and airy it is a great space for relaxing.
Golden bay is a paradise for nature lovers with gorgeous beaches, (Wharariki beach is a 40min drive away and if lucky you can see baby seals playing in the pools exposed at low tide) rivers and plenty of hiking trails and lush forests. Milnthorpe park 6mins drive away has a maze of tracks , beautiful bush and beach. It is also known for it's vibrant artistic community and has many galleries. The Mussel Inn is a very popular cafe/bar/music venue just 15mins walk or 5mins drive away from the property. There are other bars and cafes in Takaka or Collingwood about 15km away. Anatoki salmon farm, 23km away allows you to catch your own salmon and can cook it for you there. If you have your own rod you can try your luck casting off the beach near the property. The area sadly has the occasional whale stranding and we have seen one stranded on the beach at Onekaka. We have also seen dolphins near the beach. Hack'n'stay 7kms away provide horse trekking and riding. Scenic flights over the bay are also available from the Takaka airport located 11km away.
  • This apartment is in a great location on an estuary between Collingwood and Takaka. Although not a modern space, it is spacious, functional, with outstanding views from its many windows. It is clean, comfortable, with a great supply of DVDs and books. We hope to return another year to spend more than 3 days there. Even though Fiona was unable to be present, she was very responsive and helpful to us.

    Rosemary2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage with a view over the estuary. Lovely walks and close to anywhere in Golden Bay. Lots of space and we loved sitting outside on the deck!

    Liz2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful spot to really relax and recharge the batteries. Easy stroll to the beach, excellent views of the estuary which is interesting to watch fill and empty. Would recommend to those that enjoy simple and peaceful parts of the world.

  • Perfect location to mussel Inn and Collingwood where we adored the food at the Courthouse. This space although near the main house was private and well equipped with great amenities for everything you need for a trip away. Stunning estuary views this host has thought of everything to ensure your stay is relaxing . Tasteful decor, awesome DVD and book selections. All new kitchen and utensils and Devine bed linen meant a perfect stay.

Adjacent to our families coastal dairy farm, just 200m from a safe and sandy swimming beach on the western side of Golden Bay. A short drive to Collingwood, or Wharariki Beach, or walk to the Old School Cafe and Restaurant. Overlooking a creek.
Plenty of space for cars and boat. Overlooking creek with native birds, and white ducks, and next to beach with multiple attractions - fishing and boating. Creek and beach to the front, Pakawau peak behind.
Seaside living with a dairy farm surrounds. Opposite the Pakawau Beach campground and boat ramp.
  • A cosy cottage, very well done up, close to a swimming beach. It’s in a great location to access Whararike Beach and Puponga. . All required amenities were available and many additional things were provided for comfort. Jean and Bruce (James parents) are lovely people, warm people. Farm fresh eggs and milk were yet another additional pleasure. We were there for two nights and would have loved to stay longer.

  • The cottage is located directly at the vast beach and there is almost nobody. This means you will have the beach more or less for yourselves. The house is very well equipped, e.g. for cooking and dining and has a very warm atmosphere. Ideal location for exploring the farewell spit. Helen is a very, very kind host.

  • I’ve been staying at Jane’s place for two nights. I should have booked more. The place was the most comfortable, relaxing and heavenish plce I’ve stayed at. The inner yard, just 5 meters to the beach, I had a blast. Even though it was grey, I’ve had the time of my life, having tea in the mornings by the beach. Jane has been the sweetest and kindest host. Communicative and very helpful. She made me feel home, not only the place with extra entrance, but also her very kind way. Very cheerful and contagious. I’d highly recommend that place to everybody. For peace of mind, travel to another dimension. Having jo WiFi was a great gift. The mussels inn is super close with amazing food, very connecting people and WiFi when needed. The location is optimal to get everywhere. Thank you a ton Jane and Brian! It’s been the greatest pleasure 😊🙃

  • Jane and her husband are a delightful couple. Very helpful with their local knowledge and super friendly. The studio is super comfy with everything you would ever need or want. The beach is right at your doorstop. A great place to stay when starting the Heaphy track walk from brown hut. Make sure you visit the Mussel Inn for a bite to eat. The mussels are fabulous. Would definitely stay at janes place again if out that way. Thank you Jane 💕

  • Very good little sleeping location, with all the simple things - toilet, shower, and a nice breakfast provided. Easy walk through the front gate directly onto the beach - good swimming high or low tide, we sat out on the beach late watching the stars (and Elon Musk space satellites) - it was all very magical. Easy access to Wharariki Beach, Farewell Spit, The Mussel Inn, Takaka township (for coffee, restaurants, and supermarkets). Its all about the location and this ticks all the boxes.

Leave the world behind in this one roomed cottage nestled in 5 hectares of native bush among park like grounds bordering on Kahurangi National Park. Relax to the sound of birdsong, bask in the sun on the deck, soak up the peace and tranquilty. Sleep in a comfortable queen bed with cotton sheets. Golden Bay is an outdoor adventure playground surrounded by two National Parks with outstanding beaches, caves, native rain forest and mountains.
This one-roomed cabin has a comfortable queen bed and sunny deck in a peaceful and tranquil setting amongst harekeke, kanuka and nikau bush with an outlook onto Kahurangi National Park. Your room comes equipped with a simple outdoor kitchen with microwave, gas hob, toaster, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. There is an outdoor wood-fired bbq area with deck chairs and outdoor seating. There is an optional continental breakfast (please let us know if you want this). The bathroom is shared and it is a short walk across a courtyard. There is no public transport in Golden Bay so you need your own car, parking onsite. This 3 hectare property has been a private family home for the last 40 years and is a quirky home to a writer and an artist. It features a QE2 covenanted swamp with board walk and loop track, with extensive gardens taking up much of the rest. Situated eight kilometres before Collingwood on the main Takaka – Collingwood Highway and 1.6km past the Mussel Inn, it is centrally located to explore all that Golden Bay has to offer from Farewell Spit and the wild West Coast beaches to the Abel Tasman National Park in the east.
Close to beaches and 1.6 km from the Mussel Inn. 18 km from Takaka township which has banks, post office, supermarket, cafes and shops. Eight km from Collingwood which has a superette, a pub, post office and cafes. Centrally located in Golden Bay between Farewell Spit and Abel Tasman National Park. Neighbouring on Kahurangi National Park.We do not recommend only one night stays in Golden Bay. It is a very long and winding road to get here and back with not that much to see from the car. All the best spots are off the beaten track.
  • Stop looking, this is the perfect place to stay will in the golden bay area! Melanie and Gerard were amazing hosts and the funky cabin is, well funky! Will be back!

  • Really unique place with rural surroundings. We spent two nights here and loved it! The shower is really cool and you have everything you’ll need :) very friendly and creative hosts! Unfortunately the weather was not great but we still had a good time.

    Hannah2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to experience the genuine, original, Golden Bay alternative lifestyle this is the place to stay. Forty years ago Gerard bought some swamp and with Melanie, his artist wife, turned it into a hippie paradise. He knows everything there is to know about the area and its history - he has literally written the book on it. From the jungle shower (accessed across a rather wobbly cobble walkway) to the steampunk barbeque this is a rustic affair and definitely not polished or sophisticated. You will probably encounter various critters. If you want to hear the birds sing, look up at the stars and commune with nature in a wonderland of crazy creativity book in here while there is still space.

Escape to a warm, modern, self-contained flat with stunning views, in an isolated and spectacular location on the rugged, windswept west coast of Golden Bay. We are a 30 minute drive from Collingwood.
Follow a winding gravel road through native New Zealand bush, skirting around the north end of the Westhaven Inlet, to the family-run property. It is 27km West from Collingwood. Your comfortable, self-contained flat is at the far end of the house, separated from the rest of the house by a triple garage. It consists of a kitchen, a lounge, a bedroom and a bathroom. Amenities include Wifi, Freeview TV with Bluetooth Sound Bar (and Blu-ray player for your DVDs), microwave, coffee machine, full sized fridge/freezer and drawer dishwasher. The kitchen is fully equipped for normal food preparation. Please bring your own food! There is good cell phone coverage at the flat but no land-line telephone. The house overlooks a commercial sheep and beef farm. We regret to inform that farm and beach access is no longer available at this property. However, you are welcome to explore the native bush track right beside the house.
The 500 hectare hilly sheep and beef farm is bordered on the East by the magnificent Kahurangi National Park. Nearby attractions include the popular Kaihoka Lakes (great for swimming and exploring) and the scenic, ever changing Westhaven Inlet. Internationally renowned Farewell Spit and the famous, photographic Wharariki Beach are about 40 minutes drive away through pleasant and interesting countryside. Or stay at home and enjoy the ocean view and take a quiet walk through our native bush which has lush ferns and tall rimu trees.
  • Stunning views. We couldn't get enough of them and also absolutely loved all of the sheep right outside our window. A bit hard to find but the instructions from Drea were helpful. The bush trail was nice, we were dying to walk to the beach but understood that it was not allowed. One thing to note is that there aren't screens on the window so on a warm night you have to pick between being hot or being eaten by mosquitoes. Otherwise the place was lovely and very clean

    Zach2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding, Unique, Remote, Wonderful, Relaxing, Memorable, Stunning, Breathtaking. My Dad and I spent two nights here and it really was a memorable experience for us. The views are like nothing we've ever seen before. Sheep, Pigs, Horses, Dogs, Waves, Nature, Wind, all of it to look at in the distance. Comfy bed, clean, large kitchen. We will recommend this space to many.... We enjoyed exploring Golden Bay during our days and staying at this AirBnB in the eves.

    Paulina2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I stayed at Jonathan and Katie’s lovely hostel for 3 nights. The common room was very enjoyable because every day there were new guests with interesting stories to tell. A nice little bouquet of wild flowers was placed upon the kitchen table and in the evening a fire warmed the living room. At night it was very quiet so waking up could be a challenge. The area is often skipped by tourists because of its remote location. Their loss! The Spit, Wharariki beach and Knuckle hill offer excellent walks and views. Beware of the Knuckle Hill walk’s steep ending and don’t attempt when it’s raining unless you’re experienced but otherwise the view over the Whanganui inlet (and even part of the Spit) is absolutely stunning and totally worth the effort. High tide would yield the best view in my opinion. Anyway I digress. Jonathan and Katie’s place offers nice places to just sit and unwind right around the house with the sound of a little brook. Perfect for reading!

  • Lovely location and a really comfortable place to stay

    Dom2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay and enjoyed the space, it's a beautiful cabin in lovely bush, though relatively close to other properties it felt secluded and private the whole time. And the cat was a good time.

  • A great space with a wonderful outdoor bath and shower. Love the composting toilet. A great space to reflect and rejuvenate. A short walk to the Mussel Inn or short drive to Takaka. A lovely space and kind host.

  • We loved our stay at this beautiful and secluded cottage. It's not fancy, so if you want plush living conditions it may not be the place for you. But if you enjoy simple rustic living as we do, you will love it. What a great escape from city living! The outdoor bath/shower was a real highlight.

Our place is about 10 kms up the Aorere Valley from Collingwood . We are close to the Heaphy Track (one of the Great Walks),The Aorere Goldfields, 10 minutes from Collingwood Beach and about 25 minutes from Farewell Spit. You’ll love our place because the garden is full of quirky bits and pieces, tracks to explore around our property and several native bird species to entertain you. Our whole property is a no smoking zone.
The house truck has a good sized deck to sit out and relax on. The kitchen has 2 gas hobs, a toaster, and a fridge. There is a pot belly stove to keep you warm on the chilly nights. The simple composting toilet and shower ( hot/cold water) are in a separate building 10 metres away.
We are on the western side of Golden Bay. The mountains, the river and the ocean are ready for you to explore from here. The Aorere River has some wonderful swimming spots. The beach at Collingwood is a great place to gather cockles at low tide.
  • We spent three nights at Karen and Brian's place and had the best time. They were very helpful and gave us the info on all the nice places to hike, swim and relax. The bus had everything you could want and was clean and tidy. Do note that you have to climb up a few steps to get to the overhead bed and the toilet is a little walk but didn't pose any problem and the toilet and shower are very private. Brian makes amazing wooden products so the workshop demands a look. The garden is very nice and they let you pick a bit of whatever is in season (The plums were VERY good). All in all a great place and we would highly recommend the place for a couple. Thanks Karen and Brian

  • A great space to stay for a few days or more...we extended our visit to 5 days and could happily have stayed longer. Great facilities, lovely garden, and lots of great places to visit locally. Karen was a great host. Recommend

  • Lovely accommodation, Karen was very nice to us and indicated us a really beautiful beach to see.

    Emeric2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was a pleasure staying with Karen and Brian. Their place is amazing. The bus itself is clean and comfortable and has everything you need. The compost toilet is a little bit unusual but works perfectly. I was allowed to walk around on the premises which is really beautiful. Karen and Brian are lovely and fun talking to. It is a perfect place to relax, very quiet. And almost no light pollution so you can see tons of stars. I highly recommend them and would love to come back on day...

  • Our stay was great, the place was wonderful and definitely unique, it looked even better than the pictures. Karen and Brian were amazing hosts, they showed us around the property which was an attraction in itself and they shared their local tips with us as well as the harvest from their garden. Would definitely recommend this place if you have a few days to spend in the area. I myself would love to come back.

The neighbourhood is a quiet private seaside subdivision. The view extends across the whole bay from Farewell Spit to Abel Tasman.

Nice gardens and beautiful view over the sea. A bit of a hike down the hill to the beach, but well worth it. Small bbq for outdoor grilling. WiFi was solid. Beach End is a simple peaceful, secluded beach front holiday cottage set amongst native bush with beautiful sea views and plenty of bird life. Beach End is a ten minute walk to Collingwood village. It is a real Kiwi bach. The kitchen and lounge are open plan with french doors opening out to a deck. There are curtains separating the double bedroom from the lounge and the second bedroom has a loft bed and two single beds. The bathroom is small and simple. There is a warm cozy fire for winter.
The house has french doors that open out to a deck with and the sea is a few metres directly in front of you. It is a kiwi bach which means the house is rustic not modern but is full of character, is warm and sunny, and has comfortable beds. The walls are wooden in the lounge and provide a warm atmosphere. There are books and board games and magazines.
The house is a ten minute walk to the village along the road or the beach. The village has cafes and a pub, an old wharf over the river, and Safari Tours that go out to view birds and Farewell Spit. There are seabirds and forest birds to watch. The surrounding area is a great place for outdoor activities.
  • A wonderful beach cottage with an awesome view and direct access to the beach. Truly a recommendation to explore Golden Bay from there. The house was clean, well equipped and stylish. Tia was very communicative and helpful.

  • I wish I could live in this house. Feels very secluded, but just a short walk into town. Endless sand flats for walking on at low tide, swimming right out front at high tide. This was my favorite place we stayed during our month in New Zealand.

    Erin2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great place to unwind close to the sea. Even with the kids in tow in the middle of winter, the house and the location provide a relaxing atmosphere. Tia is available and responds quickly to any queries and makes it all really easy. I can highly recommend this place if youre after a simple place in which to relax in with your loved ones.

    Melanie2019-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a marvel! I came for a weekend to get some writing done and I can't imagine a more perfect place to reflect and unwind. The sea is quite literally out the front door with plenty of seating out on the deck to enjoy the view during sunrise or sunset. The bed is deliciously comfy and it was a delight to fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Enjoy the cute cafes just a ten-minute walk away in Collingwood, and walk for hours along the beach as I did. Tia is exceptionally thoughtful, generous, and responsive, and you couldn't ask for a better experience. I already can't wait to come back!

    Natasha2019-04-07T00:00:00Z

  • Beautiful spot! Close to the road, but still feels private, like you're in the middle of nowhere. It's your own peaceful valley to enjoy. The bed and tent were comfortable and cosy, and we loved playing scrabble by candlelight in the evening after an afternoon relaxing in the hammocks!

Our cosy, charming, self-contained Chalet is very homely. Secluded position amongst limestone outcrops at the top of a magnificent garden in our farm. The farm is adjacent to Westhaven Inlet, and is approximately three hours drive from Nelson.
-4 kms of spectacular, private coastline with unique limestone landscape like nowhere else. -1000 acre farm borded by the Tasman Sea & Kahurangi National Park to explore. -Breakfast or barbecue on the veranda while watching the beautiful Tasman sea. Te Hapu is remote and private. It starts where the road ends. Miles of spectacular coastline and a 1000 acre farm for you to explore and enjoy, with many beaches, a luxuriant low tide rock shelf, pancake rocks, blow holes and caves. Our cosy, charming, self contained Chalet is very homely. Secluded position amongst limestone outcrops at the top of our garden. Sit on the verandah over looking the hills with dramatic rock formations and the West Coast sea rolling in. Ideal for a romantic getaway. Ten minute walk to the sea. The Sleep-out is situated thirty metres away with one bunk and space for a double mattress. It is suitable for older children. It also has a superb view. The Chalet and Sleep-out together can sleep a maximum of six. Pitch a tent if you want to.
  • We only wish we could stay longer. The ocean and the landscape are breathtaking.

  • If you haven't experienced the isolated west coast of North West Nelson then this is the place to do it. It's a working farm bordering by the sea and set in unusual limestone karst country with magnificent cliffs at the back of the property and at the south end and patches of nikau forest scattered throughout. A really wonderful place to explore and otherwise enjoy the outdoors.

    Malcolm2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a dream. Private walks to beaches with endless breathtaking views. There are so many helpful guides in the Chalet so you can easily explore the property. Thank you!

  • This was an amazing opportunity to explore Te Hapu and enjoy both the history and the land. The new lambs skipping everywhere was just delightful and the coastline with blowholes and beaches was stunning. The chalet was rustic and comfortable with lovely thoughtful touches. Would come again.

    Kirsten2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing spot! So much to explore on the farm. I would highly recommend! Will be coming back ASAP!

    Nadine2019-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Te Hapu is just a magical place and if you have the chance, I highly recommend at a minimum 2 nights here - although more time is better! Where to start - this is truly a place to unwind and unplug from it all. The chalet is a beautiful cozy nook looking out over the ocean. You get to fall asleep listening to the crashing of waves and have spectacular sunset and sunrise views. There are tons of options for you during the day to explore the property. I enjoyed Gilbert’s beach and walking along the rocks, before walking the coastal ridge. After a day of exploring you can come back and enjoy a hot bath. Zander and Andrea have supplied wonderful information and photo booklets about Te Hapu and its history, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Make sure to read “The Swoop” - got a chuckle out of that. Truly a gem and can’t wait to come back!

  • A really good place to come down. In the evening at the stove, next to the communal kitchen, chill with Jonathan or other guests, talk to take the last drink. Or be in your own room (gardenflat) for you. Everything is possible, nothing is neccesary. We had everything we needed. Everything was very clean. In addition to observing the Milky Way at new moon .... indescribable.
