Places to stay in Philo
A charming cottage in historic Anderson Valley. Surrounded by grapevines, woods, and meadows and within walking distance of several wineries, our one bedroom cottage is located on a 3-acre homestead from the 1800's purchased by our grandparents in the mid 1900's. Under the pepperwood tree, you'll have a full kitchen, a small bathroom, a front and back porch, a sunroom out the back door and flowers everywhere when in season. A home away from home in a country setting with country hospitality.
Our property is approximately 3 acres at the end of Ruddock Road in Philo, California. We're directly adjacent to Indian Creek Road on one side, and privately owned large acreage in the back. When in season and in good years, we have fresh picked peaches, nectarines, and apricots from trees in the yard, and mom's garden might offer tomatoes and other fresh produce during the garden season.
Balo Winery is at the end of our driveway. Directly across the street is the Madrones complex with the popular Stone and Embers restaurant. There are several more wineries in the direct vicinity and within walking distance.
  • Charming. Funky. Everything you need. Not a piece of IKEA in sight. Very comfortable.

  • Everything was wonderful. The place was sparkling clean, full of amenities, cozy, yet spacious, and even nicer than pictured/described. It was magical to stay in the middle of the pastoral Philo, separated from the city yet in the middle of Mendocino wine country. Jeanette was a wonderful host, quick to communicate and clear about directions to the place. We loved our stay and only wish we had stayed longer! Would love to come back.

  • This place is super cool! If you are looking for a unique structure on a gorgeous property that has an antique feel in a perfect location for your Anderson Valley wine trail-this is it. The property is very quiet (although there is a rooster that can’t tell time that lives in the distance) and the blackout curtains made sleeping in easy. We found all the amenities that we needed, and appreciated the simplicity of the kitchen. Communications with the host both online and locally were quick and effective. Check in and out were simple. The location was perfect for our wine tasting weekend. There is a coffee pot, but it’s a 4-cupper, so if you’re a big coffee drinker like me, bring your own grounds so you don’t run out. We didn’t really cook while we were there, but the kitchen had it all. I noticed a nice Weber grill in the shed. We didn’t need it this trip, but maybe Jeanette can speak to wether that’s available if you wanted to use it. My husband didn’t like the bed. We have a very firm bed at home, and this one is on the softer side for sure. He tried out the sleeper sofa and found that very comfortable. It wouldn’t keep us from returning, though. It’s a one of a kind!

  • Simply outstanding. Quaint country cottage centrally located in the Anderson Valley. If you're looking for a love nest this is it!

  • The perfect place to stay in Anderson Valley. The cabin was warm, clean and cozy. The full kitchen was useful, but the bed was a little uncomfortable.

  • Nice place and great hosts!!!

  • Jeanette's place was great, her Mom met us upon arrival to walk us through the place. We wanted to explore the wine country of Anderson Valley and this cottage is ideally suited for that. Place was clean, bed was comfortable and local apple cider in the fridge was delicious.

  • Crispin Cottage is a great place to stay in the Anderson Valley. Across the street from the Madrones (SO sad that Stone and Embers closed! Hoping something similar opens soon!), it is a perfect place to base yourself for whatever you want to do in the valley - wine tasting, hiking in Hendy Woods, or driving out to Mendocino. Jeanette was super quick to respond, communicated well and sent great directions - and her sister was there when we arrived and her mom came out to introduce herself and say good bye as we were leaving. As to the cottage, it feels like a nice rustic apartment with fully functional kitchen, a full-size bathroom with plenty of hot water and good water pressure - and lots of nice towels. The bedroom was quiet and the bed was really comfortable. The cottage even has a washer and dryer - which we didn't use, but could come in handy if you were staying more than a couple of days. My favorite things, other than location, were probably the the enclosed patio/sunroom off the bedroom and the overall "rustic-ness" of the place. The sunroom was a perfect place to relax and have lunch on a fall day, and it was really nice to just wander the property and see a bit of valley history. Thanks Jeanette - we hope to visit again!

My place is close to the beach 18 miles to Elk and ocean. You’ll love my place because It's clean, safe and quite. and it is cozy. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. we are of off the main road and the last 1/2 is on a rock road. Depending upon the time of year it may have a few pot holes. However you will have no problems driving a normal car. We do it all the time. check in anytime after 11 am. call me if you want to arrive earlier.
A couple of our guest stated that they would have like having drapes. We listened and there are now drapes. Also one commented that the head board on the bed was movable. It has been fixed to the wall. We listen and are here for you.
The cabin is located off of a county road. The last half mile may be a little washboard; so drive slowly. There are plenty of place to hike right from the cabin. We have two dogs and two older horses.
  • This cabin is the perfect getaway. It’s far enough away from everything to feel quite remote but close enough to wineries and Henry wood state park to enjoy. Robert is extremely friendly and we played a game of pool together. The photos he took and printed for us are incredible and he is quite talented. The cabin had great water pressure/temperature control. The fireplace kept us toasty even on a couple chilly nights. Kitchen was fully stocked for all major cooking needs. Plenty of extra blankets, pillows, towels. All around a great spot.

    Alex2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The place was nicer than it looked in the pictures. Robert was very welcoming and we love the portrait. Great little spot :)

    Dominic2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful cabin and location! We wanted to be in the woods but not really camping. And that is what Hoof and Paws offered. Robert is a wonderful host. The photo he took of us is wonderful and such a unique gift. Our dog had the best time running in the woods around the cabin and on the scenic walks we took down the dirt roads. Very safe and clean and peaceful. Highly recommended.

  • Thanks for the warm hospitality and great place to relax, can't wait to come back with Buddy in the future!

  • Robert’s place was perfect for a getaway and we will forever cherish his portraits of us. Come here for a totally relaxing escape!

    Alice2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at the cabin. Bob was an excellent communicator and gracious host. It was a great location for going to Hendy Woods, wine tasting, and just hanging out in nature. I hope to be back soon!

    Sivan2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Roberts place is the perfect get away for two! We went up for the weekend with our 2 dogs and although it was right space is was cozy and really want the perfect detail to our weekend. It says no cell phone reception but I have t Mobile and I had full bars! Killer VHS and DVD collection! And the personalized photos were the icing on the cake for me

    Destiny2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t even know where to begin - so many things about our stay at Robert’s cabin were amazing! First, the cabin itself is the cutest tiny house deep in the woods and it has everything one may need. We loved the fireplace so much! Second, Robert is such a lovely and interesting person, who shot a gorgeous portrait of my husband, me and our yorkie (aka monster dog). Finally, the location is great - far away from everything (we really enjoyed the time with no internet or cell reception), but close enough to a number of wineries and Mendoncino, which we had a chance to explore. We loved our stay and will probably be back!

**Improving our property and may have possible construction Monday-Friday. See details below. River's Bend Retreat is close to redwood forests, Anderson Valley wine country, and the Mendocino Coast. . You'll love our place because of the coziness, natural setting, beautiful light of the meadow and shadowy forest, peacefulness, friendly locals. This is a great destination for individuals on personal retreat, couples, creatives who want time to write or draw, and families (with kids)..
Cloud is a quaint cottage style cabin with 2 rooms divided by a curtain and a bathroom with bath tub and shower. The bedroom has a small private deck. From November through March, heating is provided by a small wood stove (all firewood and kindling are included). The kitchenette includes a toaster oven, single hot plate, coffee maker, kettle, a very small fridge, and basic cooking and eating utensils.
Philo, CA is a Northern California valley town of about 350 residents. Prior to white settlers' arrivals in the 1800s, Pomo Native American tribes lived throughout Anderson Valley. With a long history of agriculture (especially orchards and sheep), valley culture has more recently revitalized as a "farm to table" destination known for wonderful locally sourced food, beer, wines and ciders.
  • Beautiful cute spot!! Nature and river trails right outside. Best for stargazing....we brought our telescope. A little tricky to find, but that keeps it remote and private. The only problem we had was finding a good place for dinner: long waitlist for the only two good options in the area. Just have to plan ahead for that next time. Will def come back :)

  • This is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for a very relaxing peaceful weekend. The cabin was lovely and the location was beautiful. It’s such a short walk to the river, under a 5 minute drive to the market, and everyone is town was extremely nice as well. My sister and I will definitely be coming back to stay here again.

  • Beautiful and peaceful place in nature. Simple, clean and special cabin accommodations. A wonderful place for a personal retreat or for a peaceful and fun back-to-nature stay with children and family.

  • This is a beautiful, rustic experience in Philo. The cabin was warm and comfortable. The proximity to the wineries, restaurants, shops and the broader Mendo environment was perfect. And the access to the Navarro river was a delight. A great weekend spot. Laurie and her team helped make it fun.

    Kish2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great centrally located spot.

    Wendi2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a wonderful time enjoying the outdoors while staying in the Cloud Cabin! Taking a walk down to the Navarro River via the Hobbit Trail is a must! Trail may be a bit muddy, so wear shoes you won't mind getting a bit dirty. We stayed in the cabin during a cold weekend in May (around 48 degrees Fahrenheit at night) and the fireplace was already set up to make a nice fire! Cabin is equipped with the the bare cooking necessities, dishes, utensils, a microwave, fridge, and 4-cup drop coffee maker. Be sure to bring any coffee, condiments, and spices, you feel you would need as none is provided. Also bring toiletries, only toilet paper and hand soap is provided. Check-in instructions were very straightforward and remember to bring a towel and flashlight (which was helpful as we checked-in late in the evening). We definitely plan on coming back!

  • This is a marvelous spot for a romantic getaway and also for people who love to soak up the sun and enjoy the beautiful outdoors (redwoods, meadows and rivers) unburdened by human traffic. Laurie's place is both cozy and comfortable, and also conveniently located for an immersive river-hiking & swim experience. I highly recommend.

    Tess2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • I have been going to Wells Spring/Rivers Bend for 23 years and I always stay at Cloud. Besides the upgrades that only make it more conferrable it is always a beautiful place that is peaceful and renewing. I love going up in the summer and swimming at the best swimming hole or in the winter where the green is brown and the brown is green. The cabins are simple but nice and are great for family time and or a romantic get away. Anderson Valley has a lot to offer from The Anderson Valley Brewing Company -(My favorite) winery's, restaurants to local stores. It is located close enough to go to the coast on highway 128 through the Majestic Redwoods along the Navarro River. At the coast there are some of the best vistas in California-(at least for me) and wonderful beaches as well as Mendocino and Fort Bragg to the North and Elk, Point Arena and Gualala to the south that has many choices to eat, shop, drink great beer and/or wine and visit galleries with local artists. I have been going to this area for 38 years and it is the place where I feel whole and centered. It is not only the incredible natural beauty of the area along with the wonderful local’s that I have met makes if a great trip every time.

  • Beautiful and such a nice experience in nature 👌🏽

  • Nice cabin. Quirky retro vibe. Good value for the price.

    Jeff2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie is such a great host, she showed us around the property and how to get down to the swimming hole, which we thoroughly enjoyed on a hot summer day! Circle cabin is cozy and filled with everything you need to cook up some eggs in the morning or brew a cup of coffee and enjoy it on the porch while watching the quail in the meadow. The beds are comfy and warm and there are lots of windows to let in the breeze. The porch overlooks the meadow and you'll be so relaxed, the grounds and gardens are beautiful. We saw so many birds, and even deer and foxes! I was amazed looking up at the stars and seeing how many there are up there! The retreat is secluded, yet so close to Boonville, which is why we chose this spot because we were in town for a wedding. What a special place to disconnect from the busy world and reconnect with nature, we would definitely stay here again!

    Jill2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a get away and retreat this is a lovely spot! The cabin was very spacious (two beds) with plenty of space for relaxing and a great porch. The amenities are basic and rustic, but you really do not need more. The best part is being so close to Mendocino, but still set apart from the usual tourist traps. Lovely to spend a day in Mendocino and come back home to a great swimming hole and retreat in nature! Highly recommend!!

    Nayna2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful property and a perfect place to explore Anderson Valley and beyond to the Mendocino coast! In a short two night stay I was able to enjoy hiking on trails right out the doorstep from my cabin at Rivers Bend: the Navarro river and turquoise water full after a gush of February rain, Hendy Woods state park access with a wild mix of giant old firs and redwood trees wind blown and the old ones still standing strong, such an amazing location and place of forest and open meadow spaces with gardens and cabins for retreat and relaxation. My best hope will be to return later for a chance to swim in the summer when the river has calmed to a more inviting time...

  • My stay at the Forest retreat was magical. The design and details were above what I expected and it's those little details that make this place so great. I will definitely be back again.

  • This place is a little slice of heaven! And the little details that Rob and Elsa thought of just add a little magic to their beautiful cabin.

    Hedvy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing stay. I felt totally off the grid (only nature sounds, trees, and the stars) while surrounded by thoughtful amenities and stylish design. I loved taking a forest bath and the hut couldn’t have been cozier on a chilly night. And don’t get me started on the playlist that greeted me; basically, they have great taste in every respect. :)

    Sally2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had such a great time at Rob and Elsa’s hut. It was a such a great way to enjoy nature and get some rest and relaxation. We were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to do around Elk as well. Highly recommend a trip to Rob and Elsa’s!

  • Brian's place is an absolute gem! We had an amazing time and experience at the cabin. It is goregously styled with all the amenities needed for a Northern California retreat. The ambiance was perfect for rest and relaxation and the location was great to be able to explore the local community of Boonville and Philo including Anderson Valley wineries.

  • A wonderful super relaxing cottage in the Anderson Valley. Possibly the nicest Airbnb kitchen you will ever cook in and the whole place was sparkling clean. Perfectly located for either wine tasting in the valley or day trips to Mendocino. Brian's cottage is a special place to enjoy coastal Mendocino. Also special bonus points for being within walking distance to Goldeneye Winery!

Located on Katherine House Farm, 2.5 miles from the wild and beautiful Navarro beach river estuary. This is a rustic, country guest-room, looking out over a backdrop of forest and flower gardens. The property is bordered on two sides by 600 acres of ranch land. This is a true country getaway, immersed with the local flora and fauna.
Enjoy your retreat on a property, made up of forest, gardens and meadows. Guests have private entrance to room, which is set apart from the main house by a brick path. There is a set of steep wooden stairs leading up to the guest house with bathroom set away from room down a brick path. Organic coffee and tea makings are provided in your room, as well as a desk for reading and creative work. A private deck area is located downstairs, with seating and an outdoor shower. Private bathroom with claw foot tub is located down a well lit brick path. This is truly country living and not for the squeamish when it comes to the odd banana slug passing by. Nights can get chilly, but the Queen bed is equipped with a warm down comforter and there is an electric oil heater available. This is a small room with sloping ceilings for 1 to 2 people. Wifi is not currently available, but we have had success using the cellphone "hotspot" from providers that work on the coast, such as Verizon and U.S. Cellular.
Shops, restaurants and internet cafes can be found in the wonderfully quaint village of Mendocino, a scenic 20 minute drive north, up Hwy 1. The Ledford House restaurant, offers French-American cuisine and an ocean view, a mere 10 minute drive away. The wild and beautiful Navarro beach is located 2.5 miles down the road. The small and charming town of Elk is located 12 minutes South down Hwy 1.
  • A very peaceful and quiet place. My wife loved the special touches that made our room very charming. We would definitely stay here again.

    Richard2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This little guest house is adorable. First off, the garden is gorgeous and I love the chairs on the porch for guests to be able to enjoy it. And of course the room was very charming. Love the A line roof and the rustic decor. It was also very nice of Jane to provide water, a water heater, tea and coffee. Lastly, I was nervous about the outdoor bathroom, but the toilet/tub is in a room that stores heat pretty well for being outside. And the outdoor shower is nice because you get to look at the garden and pretty nature while showering in water as hot as you want. Btw if you have Verizon then you do get a little network at this location. All in all, a very relaxing and beautiful getaway from our busy work life.

    Rachita2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Never stayed in such an unique place. It's like traveling back in time without loosing the modern amenities. Highly recommend this place!

  • Jane was so sweet and accommodating. The place was adorable and idyllic, deer staring at you from the lawn on your way to the bathroom in the morning. The outdoor shower also provided the awesome experience of starting into the forest while bathing. 11/10 so good!

  • Beautiful home, very close to route 1! Very relaxing and calm. Lots of stairs so not for those with mobility issues.

    Katrina2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Jane’s place was one of the best Airbnbs I’ve ever stayed at! It was a wonderful experience. Her house is located in the middle of the woods, surrounded with wildlife. The bedroom is beautifully arranged, in a ‘romantic vintage’ style, this could be a honeymoon stay or a perfect getaway for a couple. The outdoor shower was amazingly refreshing in the morning too!

    Maria2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was a wonderful host with some great suggestions. The bed was super comfortable and I loved the outdoor shower. Favorite part of the day was sitting by the garden reading as the sun was going down. Fabulous all around.

    Linda2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jane’s property is a dreamy stop off of the 1 where we were welcomed by her horse walking up to our car and the scent of lavender in the air around the garden room. The garden itself is beautiful, as is the entire property. Jane has clearly put a lot of heart and time into everything and made it a really homey spot for visitors. The room itself is lovely and we also enjoyed the outdoor shower just below our room, despite it being a chilly morning. Jane had lavender hanging to dry in one of her spaces that we purchased a bundle to bring home with us just as a memento of the lovely evening we spent there. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay, Jane!

  • Stewart's Airbnb is in a great location in Boonville with lots of things to do in the area from wineries to hiking or visiting the coast. Stewart is a great host - we had a great time chatting with him, as well as with the other two Airbnb guests from the other room in the evening and over breakfast. This is really one of the true Airbnb experiences - staying with someone who is warm and welcoming. You can see he loves hosting. Thanks for the great experience, we hope to come back soon!

  • Stewart has a really nice spot near Boonville and he is such a gracious host. I was so pleasantly surprised with the hospitality extended to me. The bed was extremely comfortable and the house is very clean and tidy with lots of nice touches. I also ended up having a nice evening of conversation and sharing music with Stewart. He made me a nice breakfast to get me on my way and that was surely appreciated. If my travels take me on this path again I would happily stay at his home.

We had a pleasant stay at Stewart’s place, it is clean and had all the necessary amenities. Stewart also made us a good cup of coffee in the morning! Highly recommended and we hope to visit again!

The straw bale guest house with 2 ft. thick walls is wonderfully cool in the summer heat, and cozy in the cold weather. We are located only two minutes drive from Boonville and all that its eateries and shops have to offer, in a very quiet and private location with extensive gardens and views out on hundreds of acres . Guests will be greeted by our very friendly Jack Russell who announces all arrivals but is otherwise not noisy.
Up till now, this has been our guesthouse as well as a music studio, and everyone who has stayed in it loves the space with its deep cool in the hot months and cozy atmosphere in winter. The bed is queen size with a very comfortable mattress. Quality coffee and tea are available in the room as well as fresh fruit, and the clawfoot tub in the bathroom has a hand held shower. With no kitchen facilities, we prefer no food in the room and ask that guests eat out. Wifi is now available. Whilst the space is completely separate from our house, it is still part of our home - clean and simple, well loved and well lived in, but please don't expect the shiny sterility of a hotel.
We live in a very friendly and modest rural neighborhood with super easy access to all the events mentioned above. We're on a quiet road and our property borders Anderson Creek. Boonville restaurants include Lauren's (lunch and dinner), the Boonville Hotel, The Buckhorn (dinner and weekend brunch),Mosswood (early breakfast and lunch), The General Store (breakfast and lunch), Boont Berry (deli & organic groceries), Lizbby's (Mexican) and the Redwood drive in (Mexican/Americana am to pm)
  • The wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. A very unique environment. Felt like we were in a European atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

    Andy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The straw bale guest house is a perfect place to stay to enjoy what Anderson Valley has to offer. Just outside of Boonville and easy to get to everything. The neighborhood is quiet with singing birds in the mornings. The property is beautiful, surrounded by a green meadow filled with flowers. The house is cozy and bright with natural light. Pippa was a wonderful host greeting us as we arrived and personally giving a tour of the place. She provided all we needed to make coffee and tea and even had a bowl filled with fresh fruits!

    S. Elizabeth2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • It was just the stay we were hoping for. The cottage was very cozy and warm and the view of the property out of the french doors was beautiful. We really enjoyed having our morning coffee and watching little birds scan the area for seeds and worms :). Communication with Pippa was easy and clear and she offered some good tips about where to eat in Boonville. Great location and very nice hosts.

    Jennifer2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Pippa's straw bale cottage is situated in the perfect location to enjoy all of the main features of the wonderful Anderson Valley. Because the cottage is constructed with walls that are over two feet thick, and because it is set well away from the highway through the valley, it is very quiet and peaceful. Pippa greeted us warmly on our arrival, explained the features of the cottage - including its fascinating construction method - and left us to enjoy our two-night stay. The cottage itself is cozy and toasty warm, even on the cold winter nights we experienced. The bed is a memory-foam type. We enjoyed our stay immensely.

    Howard2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Charming room in a wonderful setting. Despite the cold & wet winter weather, I was still cozy & comfortable. A great location to rest your head after exploring all that Mendocino & Anderson Valley has to offer.

    Elijah2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is as pictured and as described. Pippa is a friendly, gracious host who made communication, check in, etc. easy. One thing to note is that there is no shower, only a bath tub, but that is pictured in the listing. If you are looking to spend time in Boonville, the location couldn't be better. Would recommend.

    Natalie2019-11-17T00:00:00Z

Redwood cabin in the redwoods! We have a beautiful cabin with incredible views 5 miles from the ocean and the town of Elk. We live in the farmhouse on the property and will be here to help with anything but otherwise we keep to ourselves :) We can't wait to meet you!
The cabin has a bedroom with a queen sized bed (sleeps 2) and the futon in the living room also folds out into a queen sized bed (sleeps 2). There is a single padded mattress in the loft area as well (sleeps 1).
We are tucked away in nature so it's best to bring food and snacks with you to the cabin. The Elk store is about 6 miles away and they do have essentials as well as a delicious deli counter. Most surrounding restaurants are closed during the winter time, but they do reopen in the spring. There is also a larger town, named Mendocino, that does have more restaurant and store options. Please ask if you have any questions!
  • The place was amazing and will definitely come back Brittany and branden were a great hosts. Great place for a couple or even family.

A private, clean, quiet cabin, in the woods. Wifi and EV charging. Well mannered dog welcome. Wild english garden, indoor and outdoor kitchens, fabulous bathroom. Warm and welcoming. Puzzles & Games. Magical! It's a must see!
Juliette's Place is two miles from the ocean, where the only sounds you will hear is the ocean crashing against the rocks, and an occasional passing car. We offer jigsaw puzzles, novels, fabulous organic tea, a wood stove, and a beautiful outdoor kitchen for nice days. This cabin is the epitome of the country experience, and a great place to get away! Juliette, who lived in the cabin for thirty years, played the cello and welcomed her musician friends, who came to stay with her from all over the world. You can still hear faint strains of the music in the breeze.
The cabin is set in the woods with no visible neighbors. The neighbors are generally quiet, with an occasional child's voice or dog barking. We have one neighbor who whistles as he works outside, but you may never hear him.
  • A sweet, quiet spot nestled in the woods and only minutes from the coast. The wood burning stove was especially cozy in the rain and fog, as was soaking in the tub. Peter and Lee are excellent hosts and it was great to have someone right next door to answer questions who also completely respected our privacy. They provide tide books, and maps of local state parks which is how we learned about the jug handle reserve - highly recommend the ecological staircase trail / pygmy forest.

    Stephanie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really cute spot, felt rather isolated from the rest of the surrounding homes in a nice way. There was a great wood stove in the middle that was a lot of fun to keep lit and made the place smell quite pleasant (wood was very well stocked!). Less than 10 minutes from the city of Mendocino and lots a nearby oceanside hikes. There is a nice little grocery store just down the road that made light shopping quite convenient. Bed was very comfortable for the two of us and really warm (and we stayed warm after the wood stove had burned out throughout the night). There is a really cool bathtub and a kitchen that was more or less fully equipped (but limited to two small burners). Great value and awesome location overall.

    Kyle2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Charming, cozy little cabin tucked in the woods. Beautiful location, nice and quiet, well stocked with firewood for the wood burning stove and kitchen essentials. Peter was very kind and helpful. Easy drive to Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

    Katie2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • A stay at juliette's is always amazing. We love taking baths in the big tub they have, as well as using the bidet. Staying in winter is especially gratifying as you use a wood stove to keep warm. The tea is always nice in the winter too. After many stays Lee and Peter have always provided many different new kinds of tea, which are always good. It's also a nice place to come for inspiration for art. A wonderful secluded getaway that's not too far from the modern world to be inconvenient.

    Grant2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very unique little cabin in a quiet part only 10 minutes from Mendocino with friendly hosts. The place was well kept, rustic, and very Mendocino-feeling. Would highly recommend!

    Eli2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is adorable, the bathtub is fantastic, the kitchen is great for cooking, and the bed so so comfortable! Plus, the skylights in the roof are incredible, watching the stars from bed is such a treat.

    Kamala2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect get away in a quiet, green, back to basic place. We loved our stay! If you are looking for a cabin in the woods, where you will put away your phones in order to make a puzzle, this is your spot.

    Suzanne2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, my partner and I had an absolutely beautiful time here at Lee and Peter’s space. The cabin is so darling and gets incredible sunlight, the bathtub was such a dream and the cabin itself was so cozy. The skylight above the bed allowed us to observe a beautiful full moon. Lee also included tea from their tea company that was delicious and such a thoughtful touch. The hosts were very quick and good at responding. We enjoyed our time here very much and would love to return.

The cabin is warm and cozy and well stocked for cooking, with a trail by the lake where you can spot mushrooms. Windy Hollow Farm is an off-the-grid farmstead on the Mendocino Coast. Staying on the farm offers a glimpse into farmstead living and a chance to disconnect. We have 2 small hand-built sleeping cabins. The cabins are simple, cozy & rustic with woodstoves, outhouses, and a shared kitchenette and outdoor shower.
Camping cabins available on a 20-acre organic farmstead and educational farm. Our two sleeping cabins and kitchen cabin are hand-built with simple amenities. All of the farm is off the grid with solar power. The cabins have outdoor composting toilets. An enclosed outdoor shower with hot water is located a short walk from the cabins, near the main house. The shared kitchenette is equipped with basic cookware, a cookstove and mini-refrigerator. (Please note: the kitchen cabin does not have heat and can be a bit chilly in the winter.) Wood stoves warm the cabins and firewood is provided. The yellow cabin has a queen size bed downstairs as well as a full-size folding futon mattress in the sleeping loft accessed via a folding attic ladder. Families with small children should note that the cabins are next to a small pond. The cabins are small and best suited for individuals, couples, or families with young children. Groups of 3+ adults (depending on sleeping arrangements), or families with older children, might want to consider renting both cabins. Reserve the red cabin through the Windy Hollow Red Camping Cabin listing. Both sleeping cabins and the kitchen cabin are located in close proximity to one another. Guest parking is located approximately 300' from the cabins; a marked trail leads directly to the cabins and a wagon is available for schlepping stuff.
Windy Hollow Farm is less than a mile from Main Street in Point Arena. We are near the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands, Point Arena Lighthouse, the Arena Cove and numerous beaches.

Simple cabin deep in redwood forest, with screaming fast wi-fi. Clean with rudimentary facilities (no bathroom – just an outhouse adjacent). Hot water at sink for sponge bath, plus hot outdoor shower, totally exposed to forest and sky, as a backup. New pricing includes mandatory 11% in local hotel taxes.
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Charming 250 sf wood cabin, with queen mattress in sleeping loft. Cabin is surrounded by several paths through forest acreage, alive in winter rains with matsutake, black morels, king boletes and chanterelle mushrooms. Cabin is 75 feet downhill from its own private driveway. The property is located near the end of a mountainous dirt road, on a coastal ridge, 3 hours north of San Francisco. CHAPTER 2: I got up early and bathed in the pond; that was a religious exercise, and one of the best things which I did. – Thoreau Evoke your own narrative experience of Thoreau's 2 years spent in a cabin near Concord Mass. You may not be jumping into the cold Pacific Ocean, for example, but you're only spending 5 nights! You can practice the art of the mini sponge bath at the kitchen sink. There is excellent hot running water in the cabin. PLUS you will gain the practical knowledge of another charming throwback to Thoreau's era –an adjacent outhouse. Although there is no 21st century bathroom/toilet at the cabin, private outhouse has had minimal use over the years. Path to and from privy is floodlit. Cabin is electricity (surge protected) and features small cooking stovetop and propane heat. Architect designed steel counter tops and wood cabinets. Some creature comforts (down blanket and Corbusier chaise), along with writing table, chair, ink pen, manual typewriter, ream of paper and small lit library. The geographical area features many hillside and coastal hiking trails, an historic lighthouse, restored movie theater, French bakery, library, and fine dining. Wine tasting tour, 1 hour by car, in the Anderson Valley (still free). The cabin is available for stays of 3-5 nights and will be undergoing a few simple upgrades in late 2014/2015. Come visit while Thoreau's cabin remains in its simplest incarnation, bargain pricing.
Fresh air, quiet surrounds. Young redwood forest envelops this cabin and property. Isolated, safe, protected and located 1.2 miles down a dirt road.
  • Great space. Quiet in the woods and a short drive to the coast. Plenty of good reading in Randall’s library. Perfect for a nature getaway. I would go back!

  • This place is a hidden gem. It's a small cabin up in the woods and has everything you need for a weekend getaway. There's so many wonderful books to read and is the perfect place to cozy up and relax. It's only a 10-15 minute drive down to Point Arena area but still feels very much in the woods and secluded.

  • I think the mark that any air bnb should strive to hit is making it so there guest never want to leave. This place nailed that for me. The bed in the loft gives you a sensation of sleeping in a tree house. The outdoor shower was the perfect way to rejuvenate the body after a long hike. The near by beaches provided plenty of beautiful coastal scenery. Can't wait to come back and get more writing done!

    Javier2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Loved Randall's cabin in the woods. The home is cozy, with many books to read. The cabin's heater worked wonderfully and kept me warm all night, even in February temperatures. I would highly advise against getting there after dark as it is very secluded and the map was a bit confusing but after finding it, it was a treat. A reminder that there is no bathroom, only an open outhouse but it did the job. Thanks Randall!

A wide variety of organic food is available locally in season, and a Friday Farmer's Market has everything from olive oil to hand blown glass beads, not to mention the freshest fruits and vegetables. The cabin is clean, airy, and recently remodeled with a queen bed in the loft and a newly tiled bathroom. The loft is accessed by safe and sturdy ladder-like stairs which could be an issue for those with mobility challenges. The loft windows look out on the redwoods. It's like sleeping in a tree house--but much more comfy! A pleasant place to stay any time of the year. The sunny front deck overlooks a meadow and the back balcony is a shady place to catch the afternoon breezes. The second bed, which is in the living area, is a chair that pulls out to a comfortable platform single bed. A futon for the floor is available, but it's a bit crowded with four people. There is visual separation between the loft and the main room but no door. Do us both a favor and please do not inquire about whether you can bring your pet. I love animals, but the answer is going to be no. (insert little whimper here) Convenient to SF Bay Area, about 2.5 hours from Golden Gate Bridge.
Very quiet neighborhood but also convenient.
  • My wife and I had such a great weekend. We wish we could have stayed for longer just to have a day to sit around in the cabin and stay disconnected from the world. Location is perfect, kitchen was great. Hope to come back.

  • Love staying at the cabin in the meadow! The cabin is cute and cozy the perfect place to relax and recharge. It’s location is beautiful, quiet and peaceful. It’s easy to get to wine tasting on 128 and the most amazing dinner at Bewildered Pig.

  • Great cabin. Nice and private but still close to all the wineries. Would definitely recommend.

  • A very nice place if you like to be all by yourself and have it nice and comfortable. Kathy is a superhost, very supportive and kind. I really enjoyed my stay in the cabine in the meadow and would stay there any time. thank you Kathy !

  • Charming little cabin, spotlessly clean and nicely renovated. Also kitchen has the basics thoughtfully stocked. Anderson Valley is lovely, altogether the visit was a pleasure. FYI the left hand turn to the road to the cabin is hard to see from the south on 128 so if coming from that’s direction particularly if at night be aware.

    Joan2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • For hiking possible to use not only redwood park well known to all but and continue of Gschwend Road with slow local traffic and beauty landscape. In the evening we observe through the window small family of roe (or something like that). A lot of testing rooms along of both side 128 Hwy, most of which fee free for testing.

    Vladimir2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy was very courteous, responsive, and thorough host. The space is very spacious and homey...perfect for a weekend retreat. Thanks, Kathy!

    Kye2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • A little off the beaten path. Peaceful, quiet, and clean. The bed is in a loft that can only be accessed by a ladder. Good variety of kitchen equipment. Wonderful place for young couples to explore Anderson Valley.

My house is two hours north of San Francisco at the beginning of the Anderson Valley Wine Country. Two miles south of Boonville and close to the Anderson Valley Brewery, this getaway is the perfect location to explore and enjoy nature. The Butterfly Godess has blessed these two acres and she welcomes you to enjoy the beautiful Mountain Vista view from your private master bedroom or hammock chair. I really enjoy relaxing on the deck and watching hummingbirds, deer, and more. Nature is abundant.
Secluded up on a knoll with lots of dear, birds and everything else in natures kingdom. I want you to enjoy my beautiful home. You have your own private keyed entrance from the deck, and your master bedroom is locked from inside of the house for your privacy. Some say I have a sense of humor, and your place is "girl ready " The comfy pillowtop bed faces a 43 inch 4k high definition smart TV with Amazon Prime. Beautiful bedroom floors, tiled bathroom with heat lamp, and artwork in both. New Refrigerator freezer, linens, fixtures in bathroom for your enjoyment. I am self taught in wholistic medicine and choose to provide you with natural bathroom products. You deserve it. There are several places you can go from here. Start your day after breakfast with a beer at Anderson Valley Brewing, so close to here. Just kidding..... I really enjoy the 13 mile drive north to enjoy a peacefull walk in the tall Redwood groves at Hendy State Park. From there you can continue on to Mendocino, a quaint sea coast town. If you like traveling a mountain road it's right here. You can go to Point Arena. Approximately 50 wineries in our valley will certainly keep you busy Many other activities within about a hours drive. For your quiet enjoyment you may choose to enjoy my private book collection on the deck.
Lots of birds...... I love watching them. Great view. So quiet and peaceful at night.
  • My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful location, gorgeous views, and exceptionally clean. Stewart is an excellent communicator, very friendly, and goes the extra-mile to make sure guests enjoy themselves.

  • Stewart’s place is charming and he is a charming host to go with it. You can’t go wrong here if you are wanting to stay in Boonville. We enjoyed the stay immensely. If you are a coffee drinker, I suggest you try the bean. Loved the hummingbirds.

    Marc2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean, beautiful room, with thoughtful amenities, a great view, and immediate proximity to the Anderson Valley and Mendocino coast. Stewart is a thoughtful and friendly host.

  • Stewart's amazing and definitely a super super host !:) Enjoyed every aspect of staying at Stewart's:) Strongly recommend for future guests.

    Gautham2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This spot is located in a scenic, lesser known wine area of California on the way to Mendocino. The room in Stewart’s house is private and lovely, with access to a large deck and surrounded by natural beauty. Stewart is a wonderful host and makes an excellent breakfast, which is $15 extra and well worth it.

    Richard2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Stewert is the best! I would give the man 100 stars if I could!

    Kojo2019-09-22T00:00:00Z

  • Our stay was absolutely perfect. Rob and Elsa thought of everything when it came to the little details that would make our stay more enjoyable. We walked in and there was soft music playing and pretty lighting, we instantly felt relaxed. At first we were worried about not having WiFi but it turns out it was exactly what we needed to disconnect from technology and truly relax. Would recommend this spot to anyone and hope to visit again. I was so sad to leave!

  • Rob and Elsa have created a very special place with the Water Tower Loft. There were such thoughtful touches when we arrived, and the space was larger than I expected. Everything was so well-appointed - the bed and linens were so comfortable, the kitchenette was well-stocked with essentials, and there was even music to listen to! It was such a perfect place to escape two for a couple nights, and I hope to return soon!

Overlooking the beautiful Anderson Valley, our custom-built home offers comfort and luxury. Guests enjoy the decks, sauna and hammock areas and can harvest herbs and vegetables right from our garden. We are 420 friendly and love to connect with other international travelers and cultures. The valley is full of world-class wineries and eateries. It features a brewery and the famous old-growth redwood forest, Hendy Woods State park. We love well-behaved pets and kids.
Doug built his own home here in 1995. The wood fireplace and heated concrete floors keeps things cozy in the winter. Numerous windows and skylights show off the 360 degree view of the mountains and valley below. Multiple decks, garden areas, hammocks, ping pong and the outdoor shower and tub are wonderful for summer relaxation. Wendy can provide massage and herbal lotions and oils that she makes herself at her healing sanctuary in Boonville, the Caretaker's Garden.
Our home is perched on a hill overlooking our agricultural valley.
  • Second time staying with Wendy and Doug and it certainly won’t be the last!

    Dawn2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and Doug's little Mendocino nest was such a pleasure to experience. Great location for wine tasting, restaurants and redwood hikes just a short drive away. Sauna was a huge perk after a day out. Shower is only in the sauna and the bathroom is just across the way of the kitchen which is a shared space but Doug and Wendy are very respectful of the space. Both were very hospitable and friendly and we enjoyed talking to them about the area! Great views too on the wrap around deck.

    Adrienne2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • My stay with Wendy was the perfect solo getaway! The home is gorgeous and is equipped with a beautiful view of Boonville. The outdoor sauna was my favorite and I could have stayed in there all day. Wendy and her partner were so thoughtful and I enjoyed my time eating breakfast and relaxing with them. The bedroom is spacious and you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the restroom. I also enjoyed Wendy’s homemade tea blends that come from her garden.

    Taylor2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Wendy and Doug provides a very warm and pleasant experience. They are the ultimate hosts! We especially love the dry sauna/shower experience outside which is a godsend after a long day of hanging in the Anderson Valley or Mendocino Coast.

    Kristin2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • A homey, friendly funky retreat at the top of the hill! It takes a bit of climbing, but it’s worth it! Its a little oasis in the woods with some views across the valley. Doug - who built the house - welcomed us warmly and showed us some of the highlights which includes an outdoor shower and a second shower in the sauna. We didn’t really talk much with Wendy but she was very warm as well. There is a fenced area if you bring a dog, and lots of outdoor space to hang out and relax. There are some very nice touches like comfy bathrobes for each guest. Two things to note - the bathroom does not adjoin the bedroom - you have to walk through the kitchen to get to it and there is no shower or bath inside. That didn’t bother us, but you should “know before you go.” We hope to return again!

    Stephen2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting, very quiet. Welcoming hosts. There's a sauna available, and a shower either outside or in the sauna. Comfortable room and bed. Very relaxing

    Lenore2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Doug and Wendy we very nice people and a pleasure to stay with. Doug even made us scones in the morning! We were only there one night so we didn't quite get a chance to check out the awesome sauna they have. Our dog really enjoyed running around their backyard and hanging out with their dog Betty. Location is great for exploring Boonville and surrounding Mendocino county areas. We would definitely stay with them again!

**Improving our property and may have possible construction Monday-Friday. See details below. River's Bend Retreat is close to redwood forests, Anderson Valley wine country, and the Mendocino Coast. You'll love our place because of the coziness, natural setting, beautiful light of the meadow and shadowy forest, peacefulness, friendly locals. This is a great destination for individuals on personal retreat, couples, creatives who want time to write or draw, and families (with kids).
Sunset is a two-story lodge style accommodation with a large upper deck overlooking the forest, a spacious living/meeting room with couches, conference size table with chairs, and a tiny kitchenette tucked away in a closet. The kitchenette includes a sink, small frig, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven and plates, cups and eating utensils.
A small grocery store, post office and restaurant are located on Hwy. 128. Many winery tasting rooms in the Anderson Valley. Also, seasonally, farmer’s markets.
  • Nice quiet cabin in the forest

    Christoph2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The location is wonderful and scenic, and the lodge was very cozy and cute. We had a nice time simply wandering the grounds and enjoying the nature.

    Daisy2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting. Huge cabin with windows that have a nice view and a small walk from the Navarro river. More rooms/beds than our family could need but it was nice to spread out. Really could accommodate two large families. Bring your river shoes and plan a nice walk/ picnic at the river. The only thing to anticipate is the kitchen is micro small. Tiny fridge, no counter space, tiny sink. Plan to bring your own stove, extra cookware, cooler to store food if you have more than 3 people. The people managing the grounds are incredibly friendly and nice. We loved our stay.

  • This location is stunning. With your rental you get complimentary access to the tallest lighthouse in the west, and the lighthouse museum. The view from the top is breathtaking. We saw whale spouts and flukes within minutes. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room is small, but comfortable and warm, with a cozy bed, and a welcoming bottle of wine to greet us.

  • My fiance and I recently stayed the evening here at the Point Arena Lighthouse and had an excellent experience. Mark and the rest of the team at the lighthouse were very accommodating and gracious hosts — we enjoyed touring the Museum and Lighthouse, and learning more about the property's rich history. The grounds are delightful, an we enjoyed strolling to the various nearby beaches and viewpoints. The accommodations were excellent — clean, comfortable, and functional. This was our first stay at the Point Arena Lighthouse, but will certainly not be our last. We look forward to visiting again in the near future, and will certainly recommend these accommodations to friends and family. Thanks again, Mercedes & Kai

  • We really loved after many years of visiting lighthouses to be able to stay at one. We highly recommend the Keepers Room for the outstanding views from it and surroundings. Very clean and comfy. Calming and warm fireplace was very nice after a long day of coast exploring. A spectacular sunset was had. And saw a whale when we first got there. Added Bonus.

This tiny cabin tucked in the redwoods is surrounded by trees, trees and more trees! Soak in the claw foot tub of while gazing out into the expanse of a redwood forest! The bottom floor of the cabin has a small sleeper sofa, record player, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The bed is up the in loft space on the second floor for snoozing, reading or otherwise disconnecting from city life!Update: gas wall heater just installed to keep you warm and cozy! WiFi and cell reception are spotty!
Guests will have private access to this secluded cabin in the woods. Feel free to hike the trails behind the cabin or forage for mushrooms down the ravine. *The sleeping space is up a narrow and steep ladder. But the bottom floor also has a sleeper sofa if ladder is too tricky.
We are 5.5 miles to the beautiful Mendocino coast and 12 miles to Mendocino. It is possible to spend days in the country, in the forest or on the coast in this location.
  • Such a quaint and cozy space. It’s also located in the most beautiful area. Loved the claw foot tub that overlooks the redwoods.

    Erika2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa's tiny house was small, as expected, but so cozy!! The view of the redwood trees out the big bathroom window was amazing, and there's so many good local spots and beaches to explore nearby.

    Emily2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • My dearest gal pals and I had the BEST time in this cozy little redwood home. We highly recommend this place to spend time with loved ones!

    Maria2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa's tiny house is wonderful! Super cozy and private, views of trees from every window. The loft is a little tricky at first, but as long you you don't have mobility issues it's fine, and the bedroom space upstairs is really spacious and comfortable. Lots of thoughtful touches, like bubble bath for a soak in the luxurious tub. A great little find in Mendocino!

    Emma2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute. Amazing bath tub w/ a forest view. Love that there is no WiFi or cell reception. I literally read 3 books during the full day I spent lounging around. Can’t recall the last time i unplugged for so long. Super close to Van Damme state park which had amazing hiking which I took advantage of the day I wasn’t reading all day. Note that the sleeping is up in the loft via a pretty serious ladder situation so if you have any mobility issues at all probably not a good fit. Otherwise a super cute, rustic, minimalist place to unplug up in Mendo for the weekend.

    Lindsey2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa’s place was perfect for a short weekend trip. She was able to install the wall heater a few days before our trip, so we got lucky and got to use it immediately!

    Wendy2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Elisas place is a beautiful and private place to stay in the woods. The bath tub has an incredible view of large trees with nice ambient candles to light up. The record player has a few good records to play during your stay and the mini kitchenette is equipped with a good set up to make your morning comfortable. The only thing I would consider is that the main bed is on the second floor that is accessed only by a ladder. It is built in a tight space and was a little tough to navigate. Other than that the place is absolutely wonderful!

    Charles2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very adorable cabin in the redwoods. Elisa is a great host who helps you settle into the space. The cabin can be cold in the winter, but the heaters help cozy up the place.

We are nestled right between Husch, the oldest vineyard in the valley and Angel Camp, the newest. ...... The caretaker lives in a separate house on the property and is available to attend to your needs with enough notice. Due to the remote location of the property, cell service can be spotty. Our WiFi can also be somewhat spotty, especially during bad weather. Follow us on Instagram @ themaksimfarm
Our property is in Philo, in the heart of Anderson Valley. You are very close to many great wineries and tasting rooms. Our closest neighbors are Husch Vineyards, Phillips Hill Winery, Navarro Vineyards, Lazy Creek Vineyards and Roederer Estate just to name a few! If you're not in the mood for wine, you can grab a beer at Anderson Valley Brewing Co., visit the goats at Pennyroyal Farm, or hike in Hendy Woods State Park! From Philo, you can continue on Highway 128 through the famous California redwoods to where Highway 128 joins the Pacific Coast Highway at Navarro Beach. Mendocino is about a 45 minute drive. Fort Bragg is about 15 minutes north of Mendocino.
  • Great place to stay for exploring the valley. We had four people in our group and the barn comfortably accommodated our needs. Not a full kitchen but you can make do with what’s provided.

  • Awesome space!

    Felipe2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The loft was just the spot we needed for a getaway weekend from the bustle of the busy Bay Area! The loft had everything we needed and Matt & Jen were responsive, helpful and welcoming.

  • Beautiful. Cozy. Nice weekend getaway

    Jason2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures are very accurate. We had a nice getaway with our two girls. The beds were luxurious and comfy. The big screen tv and cozy couch were a bonus! We did not notice a mineral smell or taste to the water. Our highlights were Gowans apple stand, the apple farm, grape juice tasting at Navarro, and the highlight, a misty walk through the majestic redwoods in Hendy woods. Matt and Jen were very quick to respond and offered some great suggestions with our kids.

  • The barn loft was exactly what we needed. It comfortably fit three adults and a child. It was cute, clean, easy to find, and on gorgeous property. My 7 year old son thought the apple trees were just the coolest thing ever. There was no one in the other rental house on the property so we were lucky enough to be able to wander around without feeling like we were invading anyone’s space, the little hangout area in front of the other house is really neat and the star gazing in Anderson Valley is spectacular. We were affected by the power shut downs and our host reached out to us every step of the way making sure we were ok and didn’t need anything. We would absolutely stay here again any time. I only wish we had more time there.

    Melissa2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a fantastic, private get away. Exactly as described and very clean and spacious. Jen went above and beyond to accommodate us and recommend things to do for our anniversary/bday getaway. Tornado the horse, who roams the property, was a lovely addition to this charming loft in beautiful Anderson Valley. Highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet and cozy escape.

    Lala2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Maskim BarnLoft was beautiful and spacious! We were in Boonville for a wedding, and had a wonderful stay. We had 4 adults and one child staying comfortably. All directions and communication was perfect and landed us at the doorstep without any problems. My only recommendation would be to instruct guests to bring their own water and coffee. I highly recommend this loft to others and would stay there again myself.

WE ARE CURRENTLY ONLY ACCEPTING RESERVATIONS FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS. PLEASE SEND YOUR REQUEST AND NATURE OF YOUR WORK Our peaceful cottage is located a few miles inland from the coast, along beautiful Navarro Ridge. It's a special community with many residents having lived here for decades, tending their homesteads. On your way in, you are likely to see cattle, horses, pigs, and chickens. Deer, coyote, foxes, mountain lions, owls, hawks, vultures, and bears also frequent the ridge.
High ceilings and skylights make the cottage feel spacious, yet it's still under the majestic redwoods. There is a comfy new King bed, clawfoot tub, and full kitchen for your use. A small, private deck is just outside the cottage, as well as a rustic fire pit (available during the winter/rain season). We've added a television and dvd player for movie lovers. The cottage offers moderately fast satellite internet.
Take a walk along the beautiful ridge, or stop at Navarro Point for the nearest stunning ocean views. Navarro Beach is wild and scenic, particularly during the winter months. Staying here feels a bit more "in the country" than staying in the Village of Mendocino even though you're only 25 minutes away. The cottage is ideally situated for those who would like to explore the surrounding areas of Mendocino, Anderson Valley, and Point Arena.

Authentic, rustic, retreat for 1 or 2 guests. Surrounded by young redwood forest, with privacy and a fire view wood stove. Unplug for the week/weekend or stay glued to the mad pace with screaming fast wifi! YES books have been written here. The latest: 'Chaos Monkeys', was published in June by HarperCollins, and stayed about four weeks on the NYT and WSJ bestseller lists. New pricing includes mandatory 11% in local hotel taxes.
Dramatic one bedroom, rustic/contemporary, guest house surrounded by forest, above the tiny coastal city of Point Arena – 3 hours north of San Francisco. This small home was designed as a remodel of an existing hippie cabin-in-the-woods. It has a queen size bed in the bedroom (downstairs) and one, exposed, twin mattress for an extra guest* in the loft upstairs. Soaring 18 foot butterfly walls, separated by an acre of redwood forest from nearest neighbors. It has a garden just outside. No cell phone reception but a landline provided for your use and VERY fast wifi . Filtered ocean view. Also features a fire view wood stove in the living room, a small, nicely equipped kitchen, Fußball in the tiny loft, and a tiled bath with shower/tub. Two other dwellings on the property, each on its own private acre in the woods can be found listed on airbnb. Our "Thoreau cabin/woods/write your book" is a one room cabin tucked away with distant coastal views from 3 windows. Our "Jewel box house w/ wide ocean view" has panoramic views of 5 miles of coastline and comfortably sleeps up to 4. Property is down a mile and a half of dirt road on a steep mountainside, accessible year-round. It is set back on the ridge above historic Point Arena and the Point Arena lighthouse, circa 1868. At this spot, it is possibly 300 meters above and 3.5 kilometers away from the ocean with naked green hills and deep forests of redwood, Doug Fir and pine all around. At night there are no lights to be seen from the guest house, outside of its own small illumination. Tranquil and set in spectacular nature -- excellent for bird watchers and other wildlife enthusiasts looking for deer, wild rabbits, and other small, harmless, creatures. Point Arena is the second western-most spot in the continental U.S. and is one of six locations around the globe selected by NASA for clean air quality samples. In addition to the lighthouse museum (URL HIDDEN) our tiny city has an epicurean French Bakery noted by several national magazines, a coop market with locally produced, organic produce in summer, an excellent 3 star restaurant, bread clubs featuring organic artisan breads AND a first-rate cinema (URL HIDDEN) with a new (usually independent) film each week and live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera. The tiny city is located an hour south of the popular village of Mendocino -- another destination for spas and artisanal goods. Local sports include kayaking, hiking and biking along the coast, fishing, diving and and surfing off the pier. Inland, a 1.25 hour drive from our residence, is Mendocino's famous wine country (URL HIDDEN) which boasts the only still-free wine tastings in the Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino region.
Pristine and nationally recognized coastline with hiking trails and forest.

Sunny private room & bath, in artist's home/gallery on the Mendocino coast. Queen bed, seating area, dresser, closet, coffeemaker, fridge, microwave. Front yard "living room," super short walk to downtown Point Arena. Walkable to ocean hikes! PLEASE NOTE: On order of the State of California, Mendocino County and the City of Point Arena, my listing is unavailable through May 2020 due to to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is a charming, often sun-drenched, comfortable room and bath located on the ground floor front of a house in the heart of Point Arena, one of California's tiniest incorporated cities. Located only 25 feet from Hwy. 1 (Main Street), the house and room are nonetheless very private, shielded by a cedar tree right in front of the Angelwing's east-facing picture window. Hwy. 1, which runs along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, is not only gorgeous, but civilized: traffic drops to nearly nothing after dark and this location is quiet at night. In the morning, though, you will hear traffic as the town wakes up. The Angelwing Room is convenient because nearly every amenity that PA has to offer is accessible on foot. You can drift out the front door and within minutes, get the best chocolate croissant from here to SF and a dark french roast, enjoy the hushed interior of a historic theater, have a nice glass of wine in a sophisticated atmosphere (at 215 Main, on the east side of the street) or - after a 3/4-mile walk to our cove - sit mesmerized by the ebb and flow of the immense Pacific Ocean. The house is Lauren's art studio and business headquarters, so either she or her son Adrian or ex-husband Lu will be available to give you directions, help, and advice. Lauren is the former Mayor of Point Arena and knows where you might want to go, what you might like to see, hear and do. Local beaches and ocean access points may interest you, or you may just want to get away. The Angelwing Room, in the heart of Point Arena, is a very good place to be far from the rest of the world; because of coastal fog, it can be like a modest, modern Avalon. The house itself is an old redwood structure dating from around 1900, remodeled in the sixties. It is funky, but full of creativity and (we hope) charm! We strive to keep the room spotlessly clean and the hall area neat; at the same time, it is an old house with some original decorative features. It has been home to Lauren and her (now grown) sons and many sleep-overs, gatherings of friends, political events, and late night working since she came to California in a school bus in 1999. She and her sons lived a year in that bus in the redwoods, then bought this magical place in 2000. It is very lived in, but the guest room is the most modernized part. A note about climate: the northern California coast is very cool and often damp. Bring warm clothes no matter what the season!
TINY CITY The neighborhood is unique in being an incorporated city, but so very small! It is one of California's five smallest cities. By necessity it is close-knit, if not always harmonious. Point Arena is old-fashioned in its lack of sprawl, yet almost everything you need is here, within one square mile! YOU ARE RIGHT ON HWY. 1 This is great, and even mostly quiet after dinner time, because of our remote location. Be aware though that people start getting to work around 6 to 8am, and you will hear this traffic. THE PACIFIC PLATE The notorious San Andreas Fault runs along the California coast, much of it off shore. But here, the fault carves a tiny chunk of land out of the Continental Plate and takes us into the huge Pacific Plate. The Fault goes out to sea 3 miles north of Point Arena, in the Stornetta Flats and again about 35 miles to the south. So Point Arena and the Angelwing Room are on the tectonic plate traveling slowly north while most of the rest of North America is heading south. It feels like a separate world out here, and geographically it is. Come experience it for yourself! COOL OCEAN AIR Please note also that the coast has much more moderate weather than even a few miles inland. When you are roasting in the summer, visit here - it will be 20 degrees cooler! When you are freezing in the winter, here it will be more mellow, cool, moist weather perfect for your skin.
  • Delightful!

    John2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren's house is perfectly situated in Point Arena within easy walking distance of the tiny downtown area. Lauren is the perfect host, easily accessable but not intrusive. The room is spotlessly clean, eclecticly decorated and with Lauren's artwork on the walls. What's more, Lauren was so kind and helpful when I realized that I had left my camera bag (with camera and all my equipment) at home!! I definately intend to return!

    Richard2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great pleasure to meet Lauren, her son and their new puppy. Lauren has been extremely helpful and she anticipated all our needs. The room was great and super comfortable. Point Arena, Gualala and its surroundings are a superb spot to get some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of California. I would definitely recommend staying at Lauren’s as she has been a fantastic host during our trip. Very accommodating and responsive. And what an interesting woman! Very kind, very unique and interesting life.

    Ilias2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren was an excellent host and extremely accommodating. We had such a rejuvenating rest staying in the beautifully decorated and artistic Angel Wing. Bed was very cozy and the location couldn't be any better. Definitely a must for anyone driving through the Mendo coast.

    Cameron2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely room and very convenient to all Point Arena has to offer.

    Dianne2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • I would really recommend staying here! I loved exploring around Point Arena and went on the most beautiful hikes nearby! Lauren had great ideas on things to do and her home is located in a really great area.

    Julia2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren's room was comfortable and decorated from floor to ceiling with personal touches, though the space might be small if you're accustomed to spreading out. She was great at communicating with us and understanding when we couldn't provide an ETA as promised due to lack of cell signal on the coast. We'd love to stay again next time we're around Point Arena!

    Ashley2020-01-11T00:00:00Z

  • Great place in an awesome location. The apartment is very clean and airy. Has a lot of amenities. The only thing is that the bedroom wall is a bit thin so not very soundproof. It gets a bit annoying if you have noisy neighbors. Mina, the lighthouse cat, is very friendly and we loved her visits.

  • Stunning location

    Graham2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderfully quiet and serene, with incredible views! The apt was perfect for the two of us, with a kitchen where we could cook breakfast and enjoy the dinner we assembled from the Co-op market in town. The bed is wonderfully comfortable. There is plenty of room to spread out, with comfortable chairs and couch. It is just as the photos portray. The room rentals go to support the Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers, Inc - a great cause!

Your stay at The Roost will put you amidst sunshine and branches. The best of both worlds, we are located just 1.5 miles from the ocean in a sunny redwood grove. Of course Albion is an easy 10 minute drive to Mendocino Village. Bird lovers can enjoy their coffee on the upper deck while taking in the morning chorus. There are windows and skylights in all rooms for maximum enjoyment of our wooded wonderland.
With a name like The Roost you'll probably gather we've got some chickens (Hens only!). They are happy to make your mornings a little sunnier (eggs anyway you like ‘em).
We are located on a quite private road where folks drive slowly and take time to wave :)
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Roost. The space was super clean, cozy and well kept. I was looking for a place to relax, do some writing and to serve as a home base for exploring the area. It was perfect. Tucked away in the redwoods it was a quiet retreat. I didn’t get to enjoy the outdoor tub. Next time! I would highly recommend the Roost for your next Mendo getaway!

    Gabriela2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Amy and Barry were great hosts. Real quality and care went into this place to stay. They left me some eggs in the fridge for the morning from their chickens and even set up a wood fire in the fireplace ready to light. I could say more but just a lovely stay in a unique and beautiful home.

    Blake2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Very cozy. Great wood fireplace to keep warm with wood provided. Great central location if you are interested in exploring Mendo County. Would definitely stay there again!

    Jason2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amy and Barry have put a huge amount of care into the Roost. The kitchen is more than fun to cook in and the art on the walls and and the outdoor tub/shower is a truly unique bonus. They responded to all questions in no time flat (for example, can we use more wood? YES!; the water pressure all of the sudden became low, whats up? wait 10 mins), and were incredibly generous (they gave us eggs made by the "girls"). We hope to have an opportunity to return soon. Be sure to read the written directions to get there. Do not miss an opportunity to stay at the Roost!

    Sara2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Roost is every bit as wonderful as previous reviews show, but the icing on the cake for dedicated birders like us was the entertainment at the bird feeder every day. A very warm welcome, highly recommended!

    Michael2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Roost was everything we could have hoped for and more. It’s location is secluded, yet a short drive to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. The place is immaculate, beautifully decorated, and incredibly well stocked (the kitchen especially!). Amy and Barry were warm and responsive hosts. We hope we can come back someday.

    Sarah2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Roost is an amazing stay. It's tucked away in the middle of the redwoods and such a peaceful space. It's a very quick 10 minutes drive to all the restaurants and bars in Mendocino as well. Amy and Barry were amazing hosts as well. We would love to stay again!

    Andrew2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • If you don’t book this listing, you’re missing out on a little piece of heaven. From the moment our tires hit Road C we knew we were in for the treat. The hosts, Amy and Barry, really put a sweet and stylish touch on every single aspect of their listing. The outside garden area is gorgeous, inviting and feels like a sanctuary. From the hops growing on the fence to the bathtub ( which i used for a late night soak while taking in the night sky) and gorgeous sunflowers and dahlias, I could just live out there. The kitchen was just perfect. They have it stocked with all the necessities to make a great meal and the fridge even comes with a pack of eggs from their little lady chickens! They had spices, coffee, ice, plates and even a zester (which I needed somehow ;)! The bed was so cozy and warm. Pillows were fully and the fireplace was a real show stopper. I can’t stop telling anyone who’ll listen just how wonderful this property was. I will book The Roost again and again and again.

Tom & Sharon Comments from the guestbook: "Thank you for creating such a spacious, uncluttered, tranquil environment. This lovely cottage, deep rest, miles of quiet, and black nights all conspire to ease my wound-up nerves." "We enjoyed our stay and were very refreshed by the quiet, natural beauty nearby and deer and wild turkeys stopping by to visit from time to time. We loved our 3-hour kayak ride up the Albion River. We didn't see another soul but did see several harbor seals, river otters, cranes and hawks." "This is truly a special place. I was looking for a retreat and I found more... I found myself again. Thank you for creating a safe, warm space and sharing your incredibly beautiful property." "You have a truly magical world here and a cozy cottage to comfort guests. Being here in this enchanted forest is a true gift." "Thanks for this lovely space to rest and become restored. The nature, the quiet, the warm and sunny days have left us all softened around the edges." "This is my 5th time staying here in this cozy space. Your land is more beautiful than ever and the peace and quiet so supportive. The blooming wysteria was an extra delight, truly lovely."
Our immediate rural neighborhood is explorable via paths thru our meadows and woods and by walking on Middle Ridge Road, a little-used, dead-end, paved country lane. The village of Albion is 5 miles away and has a little grocery with wine selection & deli, a post office, hardware store, ocean harbor, beach, boat rental and 3 restaurants. Seven miles up the coast from Albion is Mendocino-- a historically preserved coastal village and an art, wine and food lover's paradise. Seven miles further north is the larger town of Fort Bragg, with a large harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, 25 restaurants, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, and the historic Skunk Train. Forty miles inland from Albion are two virgin redwood preserves and 20 Anderson Valley wineries. Albion is great base for hiking, biking, kayaking and exploring the beautiful North Coast.
  • My wife and I had a wonderful time staying at Tom and Sharon’s cottage. It was a very peaceful, beautiful place to stay. Thank you, Kathie & Jeffrey

  • This is the most cozy, lovely cottage, set in beautiful and quiet woods. It is well-appointed, full of plants (including the biggest monstera I've ever seen!!!), and perfect for a relaxing weekend away. We loved watching hummingbirds at the feeder, and sitting on the deck to enjoy the quiet. We're definitely planning on coming back for a longer trip.

  • I came to Tom’s place to meditate, to create and to simply enjoy some quiet solitude. The space was perfect for this. Even though Tom and Sharon’s home is right next door, it didn’t take away from the feeling of privacy. Quiet Cottage is indeed very quiet. It’s also very clean and contains everything you might need including WiFi. Also, the faucet water, which comes from their well, is delicious! There was a house sitter in their home when I was there because Tom and Sharon went away for a couple of days. I didn’t get to meet them, but it was easy to absorb the good energy in their space. These are obviously good and honest people. The value is excellent and I would definitely stay here again!

  • We had an amazing stay in the Quiet Cottage. The tastefully decorated interior of the cottage was perfect. The highlight of our stay was the surrounding garden. We could tell that a great attention to detail and expertise in landscaping were put into this magical gem of a spot. Two little deer even came to visit!

  • This was the perfect place to hang our hats during our stay in the Albion/Mendocino area. It is located in its own redwood paradise. You can hike just outside the door of the cottage. And, for longer hikes, there are plenty of hiking trails in the vicinity. The cottage is a fully functional unit. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Probably the nicest, hottest, most pressurized shower we have ever encountered. This place is a 5+.

  • A lovely, quiet place in the forest with deers tiptoeing around at night. If you wake up early enough you can see the steam rising from the nearby flora.

  • This cabin was wonderful! The photos don’t capture all of its beauty. The drive to the cabin was scenic and peaceful. The cabin was clean, had helpful signs/labels/instructions throughout, and contained all the bathroom/bedroom/cooking supplies we could need. It was the perfect getaway. Tom next door stopped by to make sure we were doing well. He was friendly and great to chat with. Looking forward to coming back sometime!

  • Tom and Sharon were excellent hosts! Communicative, friendly and helpful. They clearly communicated details before we arrived. The space was sparkling clean when we got there and, although small, had everything we needed and more. There were helpful little notes about navigating the new space, light switches, kitchen appliances, etc... There were a lot of local guides, resources, and novels to choose from the bookshelf as well as a DVD library. The property is beautiful and well maintained. You can tell they have poured their hearts into this little oasis. Location was remote, and although adjacent to their home, we completely felt like we were "away". Stargazing was mind-blowing. We took some wonderful walks in the neighborhood which sits atop a coastal ridge, nestled in redwoods and flanked by beautiful and deep river valleys. It was a short, 15 minute leisurely walk to view the ocean across some coastal pastures. Basic amenities in "downtown" Albion are a short 10 minute drive away as well as the drama of the Northern CA coast. We couldn't get enough. Mendocino is close, Ft. Bragg not that much farther and a ton of vistas, beaches, coves, cliffs and parks in between. If you're looking to reboot and recharge, I'd strongly recommend it.

Truly one of a kind experience. Surround yourself with beautiful redwood valley views, yet minutes to vineyards, the coast and all that the spectacular Anderson Valley has to offer. The Hexagon is hand crafted from a felled redwood tree on the property, designed with an organic modernist aesthetic & meticulously developed into the perfect guest retreat. Signature to this guest cabin is the outdoor bathroom, inspired by a safari experience. The Hexagon is off-grid and powered by solar energy.
No detail has been overlooked in The Hexagon. It has been designed so that you feel like you are floating in nature, even when you are inside, fireside and cozy. Four of the six sides of this structure have windows, so wherever you look you see views and nature. As you relax in bed, read on the leather armchair, enjoy an outdoor shower or soak in the two person exterior tub, you may see deer, wild turkey, rabbit, quail, hawk, eagle, chickadee and more. The Hexagon feels remarkably roomy because of its vaulted ceiling and plentiful light. It is cozy because of its working fireplace, defined by a gorgeous Heath Ceramics tiled hearth. The building is sited to be nestled into a grove of madrone trees for privacy, yet have unobstructed views of the valley below. The defining feature of The Hexagon is the exterior bathroom, which was inspired by remote African safari tents. The bathroom is literally one with nature, with a madrone penetrating the privacy wall and providing support for the shower, as well as felled madrone branches serving as the railing spindles of the deck. The Hexagon is part of a larger property with other buildings that the owners have built out as a labor of love and an expression of their creativity over the last 15 years. 200 feet away is a converted Airstream trailer and a small house. These buildings are for the owner's private use and are rarely occupied. You are welcome to use the house's large deck, with great views and comfortable adirondack chairs. The Hexagon has an uncovered outdoor kitchen, including propane bbq with 1 burner, kitchen sink, cooler and dining table. We provide a few pots and pans, a few basic cooking utensils, sharp knives, cutting board, bbq tools, plates and glasses. You will need to bring ice for the cooler, food, anything for cooking including oils and spices, etc. Ice can be bought 3 miles away at the local convenience store in Navarro. In addition, in your private exterior kitchen, you will find the exterior dining table and chairs, portable exterior lounge chairs, and a hammock. It is the perfect spot to get away with a loved one, or alone. It is a great jumping off point for day trips or for the writer looking for a spot to feel inspired. We love it here and hope you do too!
The Hexagon is located in the perfect spot for a unique weekend away from it all. You will find yourself perched on a ridge overlooking the vast Anderson Valley. Madrone, tan oak and redwood trees envelop you on the property. All of the surrounding parcels are multi-acre properties as well, accessible by the same road. A short drive away are award-winning vineyards and fabulous restaurants. The Hexagon is 15 minutes from some of the most spectacular California coastline and 35 minutes from Mendocino. Within minutes you are at the secret swimming hole of the Navarro river or shopping the local farm stands. Oh, and five minutes away is a great convenience store with great coffee, wine, and sandwiches. For city folk, this will be a truly country experience, yet with amenities. For country folk used to acres-upon-acres of isolation, keep in mind that while the property is private, other neighbors do use the access road.

Welcome to the Maksim Farmhouse! Our home is comfortable and private in the heart of wine country. Tucked away off of Highway 128, you’re minutes away from all of the Anderson Valley wineries. Our home is rustic, spacious and private. We sit atop a hill overlooking old growth redwoods as well as scenic vineyards. We have a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, and a spacious living room with a sleeper sofa. Our backyard has gorgeous valley views!
We are a comfy modest farmhouse. While it is a rustic home that’s been in our family since the early 70s, we also have modern amenities. The farmhouse is equipped with WiFi, a large flat screen TV with Roku hookup, space heaters, washer/dryer, microwave, stove and a coffee maker. And we have plenty of games such as darts, cards, dice and board games. The property is kept pretty wild in its natural state. The grounds are lush and green in winter and spring, and dry and yellow summer and fall. Temperatures swing dramatically year round: chilly nights and warm days are common. There is a cat that lives on the property. You might see a few chickens roaming around. Sometimes our caretakers horse, Tornado, will be grazing in the front yard. Please feel free to pick a few apples from the trees along the driveway and next to our parking lot during season. We have two rentals on the property. You can view our barn loft here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/13410039 Our backyard has amazing vistas of the valley. You can see old growth redwoods and vineyards. Our closest neighbors are Roederer Estate, Lazy Creek, Navarro Vineyards, Phillips Hill and Husch. ...... The caretaker lives in a separate house on the property and is available to attend to your needs with enough notice. Due to the remote location of the house, cell service can be spotty. Our WiFi can also be somewhat spotty, especially during bad weather. Master Bedroom - 2 Queen size beds Guest Bedroom - 1 Full size bed, large closet Living Room - sleeper sofa with full mattress - Flatscreen TV, Roku hookup + DVD player, game table, video games, and fireplace. Kitchen - Full kitchen, electric fireplace, dining area with seating for 6. Note: Our well water is safe to drink and shower however there is a mineral sulphur smell. We provide limited bottled water.
  • Great location in wine country! Everything we needed for the weekend. We definitely enjoyed some of the games provided while watching movies by the fire after wine tasting. Also the caretakers dog was super friendly and a welcome third guest! If you’re not familiar with Anderson Valley it is impossible to get around if you don’t have a car but the house is right next to 2 wineries definitely in walking distance (under 5min) and a few more if you wish to go farther. We’ll be back!

  • Matt and Jen’s place perfectly met our needs. Their description for advertising the accommodations was absolutely accurate. We appreciated that the house offered some extras like an extensive collection of board games/family games, clothes washing facilities, kitchen and bath amenities, and plenty of space to socialize. The grounds keeper was friendly and there if we needed anything but by no means intrusive. It’s in a great location to explore the area and we will definitely be back and book here again.

  • The farmhouse is a great price point and located conveniently close to local wineries and beautiful trees. Jen is very quick to respond, we picked some pears, and met the lovely caretaker and animals. Please read about refraining from the pond area to respect her privacy, because I did not until after the fact (sorry!), but she was super friendly anyway. The sulfur water is as advertised. Some guests couldn’t stand the boiled egg smell and decided to not shower, so beware. Otherwise it’s not a big deal if you can push through it. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it.

  • Matt & Jen's place was exactly what my family and I were looking for during our Alexander Valley Wine Tasting weekend. There was plenty of space for all of us. The fire pit was fantastic to hang out around at night time. The location was perfect - felt secluded but still very close to several delicious wineries. There was a horse and a dog that came to visit us a few times. They were very friendly and super cute. We used the kitchen and found most of the items we needed. The communication was excellent as well! My only minor criticism is that we did come on a very hot weekend and having no AC was a bit tough. We couldn't open the windows without flies coming in. Screens on the windows would take this place up a notch for me. Overall I completely recommend this place and we would absolutely be interested in staying here again.

  • Enjoyed staying at Matt and Jen's place. The space was great and felt even larger than the photos made it look. The grounds were quite beautiful and I wish we could have stayed an extra day to relax and take in the scenery. The house was incredibly clean and everything well taken care of. Matt and Jen were also very quick and helpful with communication. Would love to stay here again given the chance!

  • If you are looking for a house in the middle of Anderson Valley close to the wineries, restaurants and local hiking locations then this is the place for you. Pros: -Beautiful backyard view -Can’t beat price for location -Comfortable beds -Kitchen had all the necessities and more Cons: -The sulfur smell in the water is not slight it is much stronger so be prepared for that, cold water makes it less pungent

Blackberry is a lodge style accommodation with a large deck and a living space that includes sitting and dining areas, and kitchenette with 2 propane burners, microwave, coffee maker, small fridge and convection oven. From November through March, heating is provided by a small wood stove (all firewood and kindling are included).
A small grocery store, post office and restaurant are located on Hwy. 128. Many winery tasting rooms in the Anderson Valley. Also, seasonally, farmer’s markets.
  • Blackberry was the perfect Thanksgiving getaway for our family. The cabin was warm, clean and cozy with plenty of space for the five of us with snuggly beds and just the right amenities to keep us comfortable in this beautiful rustic setting. It was so peaceful and quiet, even though the retreat was fully booked. We loved being on the deck, watching the quail on the meadow in the morning, walking down to the river and hiking in Hendy. This is a really beautiful and peaceful location, and booking and staying couldn't have been easier and more welcoming.
