  • This was the second visit in a few months for me - I took my daughter back for a treat away from the family before the birth of her third baby. Verity & Martin have a beautiful home in a tranquil and peaceful rural setting. They cooked us a delightful evening meal which was of high-class restaurant standard. This is a great hideaway only 45kms from Christchurch. Their home is beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean with lots of nice touches such as home made bikkies with their homegrown pinenuts. A beautiful spot set in a great garden with a very nice hot tub looking out over the bay. Plus Pinenut the very fetching kitten.

  • We had a wonderful last night in NZ at Verity’s place. The location is wonderful and so worth the drive. Everything is such a joy: the view, the comfortable bed, the hot tub on the terrace, the dinner and the hosts! Thank you!

  • What a wonderful experience!!! If you don’t mind a bit of a beautiful drive into the country- be sure to stay with these wonderful people! They have built the most magnificent home overlooking the gorgeous bay and are willing to share it with you. Don’t miss the 3 course meal they will serve for dinner if you ask- some of the most wonderful food we have found in our travels through many countries. Excellent company- bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the hot tub and the wonderful gardens! Very highly recommended!!!

  • Fantastic location, amazing hosts and stunning food. So glad we found you, a real highlight of our trip.

  • Verity and Martin's place is truly a lovely place to say. Their home is simply stunning and in the most wonderful, peaceful location. From the beautiful deck, the incredible views, the hot-tub, to their own private beach - they are willing to share it all with you! The bedroom is in the main house, but it’s downstairs and out of the way. It’s bright and comfortable - with more of those amazing views! The private bathroom next door is clean, modern and spacious, with both a shower and bath. The location is pretty remote so a car is a must. Diamond Harbour is around 25 minutes’ drive away (very small, but has a shop and good café) so we’d absolutely recommend you book your supper with Verity - ours was delicious and so beautifully presented; many of the ingredients were from their garden. The full English breakfast was very tasty too. Verity and Martin were so welcoming and engaging; we enjoyed chatting with them about life in NZ (and Yorkshire!). Their little tabby cat Pine-nut was adorable! All in all, a fabulous AirBnb. Thank you Verity and Martin - we wish we could have stayed longer and would love to return one day. Highly recommended.

  • Verity and Martin are the perfect hosts.. I recommend having the 3 course dinner freshly cooked by Verity as there are no shops or restaurants nearby and it is delicious.. Separate guest quarters down stairs with your own beautiful bathroom with bath overlooking the bay is such the way to end the day.. Comfortable beds for a great nights sleep before an amazing breakfast the next morning cooked by Martin.. If you're looking for a B&B away from the rat race this is it, beautiful in every way..

    Mark2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Can not recommend staying here enough! Luxury stay with breathtaking views of Port Levy. If you stay you must let Verity cook dinner for you! It was the best meal of our whole NZ trip, beyond 10/10! Breakfast was also incredible, we loved our stay here. You couldn’t wish for nicer hosts either, thank you!

    Dylan2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place to stay. We spent 2 nights here at the end of our NZ trip - beautiful house in stunning location - the Banks Peninsular surpassed our expectations in terms of its spectacular scenery . We swam from the little beach below the house , enjoyed the hot tub and Verity’s evening meals were first class ( she is a trained chef). Verity and Martin were very hospitable and helpful when we needed advice - so interesting to hear stories of their life in NZ. Can’t recommend this beautiful home highly enough.

The Fishermans Hut was built during the depression in the early 1930's, clad in old pressed out Kerosene cans and restored for families wanting to quickly escape Its a short 950m hike over mainly the farm track, so please wear appropriate footwear, as it can get slippery when we get rain
A composting long drop toilet and cold running water in the kitchen solar lights and spectacular views of Lyttelton Harbour, with few clues of civilisation
....there is no neighbourhood, that is what makes this the ideal escape
  • Great place, if you are looking to get back to the basics. Beautiful environment to come to rest.

  • Sams place is an opportunity to get back to nature and the basics of life. • What a stunning, stunning location. We were blown away with the amazing vista and privacy fisherman’s hut provided. I swam all day and lazed around on the deck in the sun. It has everything you need and more but is isolated from civilisation and such a great place to recharge the batteries. Already planning out next trip back. A true hidden gem. Thanks Sam!

The Tin Kingfisher is a recently built sleepout made from recycled materials. It is situated in a sheltered, sunny back garden under a walnut tree in a semi rural valley setting. Bathroom / toilet facilities and laundry are in the family home and accessed via the garden from an outside door.Access to the property is down a short, moderately steep driveway. There are a total of 11 steps as you make your way along a brick path to the back garden.
The Tin Kingfisher would be great for couples or a single who would enjoy a place to stop over for a good night's rest, and would be happy to eat at one of the many local restaurants. It would also suit backpackers who may want to explore Akoroa or as a stop over on their tour of the South Island. It is easy access to the city center (20 minutes by car), and Gondola (5 minutes by car or a 12 minute walk) or only a 1.5hr drive to Porter Heights ski field. Sumner Beach is 10 minutes while access to mountain bike tracks is only 15-20 minutes drive to the top of the hill.

For travel to or from the airport allow 40-50 minutes. The Gondola provides stunning views of Christchurch and is a 15 minute walk or 2 minutes by car. A supermarket and a number of restaurants are available within a 5-15 min drive. The Valley Inn also provides meals as well as being the local wateringhole, it is a 10 minute walk away. We also have coffee roasted on site at Upshot a local cafe, on Bridle Path Road. A new cafe, hairdresser and conveinance store has just opened and is a 5 minute walk on Port Hills Road. Mountain bike and walking/running tracks are also easily accessible on the surrounding rural hillsides of Heathcote Valley. Ferrymead Heritage Park is a 10 min walk away. • This place makes you feel right at home, an intimate space in a green oasis that has been constructed and build with love and care. It was a real pleasure to finish my trip in New Zealand here, unwinding in a calm environment. Lovely meeting you Catherine and thanks for our nice talk in the garden!

    Renée2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Not 15 minutes out of the city centre but the Tin Kingfisher feels akin to Narnia. An absolutely surreal experience staying in the Valley. Thank you to Catherine for opening up her doors and giving the discerning traveller a picture perfect place to rest their heads.

We are the proud owners and caretakers of a grand old 1890s villa here on Canterbury St, located on a quiet lane in the center of Lyttelton. It is just a 5 minute walk to access the supermarket, bars, shops, restaurants, famous farmers market, public transportation, ferry to Diamond Harbour and Quail Island. We are a friendly and easy-going couple looking forward to meeting new people and helping them enjoy their time here in the quaint port town of Lyttelton.
We are passionate about the history of our town and our beautiful home, and feel that 57 Canterbury St is a unique place to stay. We are passionate about the history of our town and our beautiful home, and feel that 57 Canterbury St is a unique place to stay. The land was first developed by Samuel Gundry who arrived in Lyttelton abroad the ‘Steadfast’ arriving in Lyttelton in June 1 8 5 1. The first and remaining dwelling was built in July Nineteen hundred and four by Albert Thomas Mutton. Thomas was known as the Carpenter of London St and went on to own 6 properties in Lyttelton. He built houses and sold them on easy terms and kept a grocery store as well. He also built a school and houses in nearby Rapaki for the local iwi. Thomas his wife Ruby and three sons William, James and Thomas resided at this address for some years after it was built up until Nineteen Nineteen according to the Electoral roll. In the 10 years I have lived at this beautiful property, I have along with the help of my husband created rambling gardens producing organic veggies and with 7 voluptuous chickens have a bountiful supply of free range eggs. We have more than our family can consume and would like to share our spoils with our guests offering breakfast for extra $12pp on weekends. There will be a selection of breads to go with your choice of eggs, garden greens, toasted nuts & seeds and homemade condiments plus coffee or tea. In summer we host an online ‘road side stall’ selling fresh produce and condiments grown and made right here with all proceeds going back into the land and maintenance of this grand old girl on Canterbury St that has stood strong for over 100 years. We also have 4 very friendly cats who love a cuddle or 10 and often sit on the mailbox awaiting friends who will pat them and there human mum who will feed them :)
Lyttelton is a cute port town that is bustling with activity, and boasts some of the best restaurants in Christchurch. There are several great bars in Lyttelton and it is a lively place on the weekends. From Lyttelton there is access to the entire Banks Peninsula, including the iconic Quail Island and Diamond Harbour. There are plenty of great walks around and the hills of Lyttelton that will provide a fantastic workout for even the seasoned hiker. Explore the bush and forest walks via the Urumau Loop and the Whakaupo Loop, A bracing loop walk with great views that takes you up through Whakaraupo Reserve on the Stan Helms Track and back down the historic Bridle Path.
  • A wonderfully relaxed and friendly place, nothing is a problem. A lovely old house in a great area. Very comfortable beds, we certainly hope to be back. Lyttleton is such a nice town, and a brilliant farmers market!!

    Angy2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • This home is as unique as it gets. In Lyttelton you can get everything you need, but if you want to go in town it’s also just a 20min drive/ 40min bus ride. Outstanding hospitality. Didn’t want to leave, but had to. I‘ll be back a 100%.

  • Great place in a cute little town. The market on Saturday is a must do!

    Tessa2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie's house is so quirky, I loved all the things from bygone eras. There are clocks and pictures on the wall to make it feel like you are in the 1940's. The room is very big so you have lots of space and the bed is comfortable. I only spent one night as I am traveling but I felt very at home. Debbie introduced me to her family and the conversation was easy, interesting and a lot of fun. I liked the area, it is near a lovely bay where you can swim or children can paddle safely I really liked the bathroom with the antique sink surround. I would definitely stay with Debbie again.

  • This place instantly felt like home! Staying here calmed me down so much, it brought me closer to myself and it was the perfect start of three months on this beautiful island. The owners are super relaxed, the place and location is beautiful including garden and amazing cats. The area is really good for hiking, the village is just super cute. The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing your meals, I even was able to use some fresh zucchini and tomatoes from the garden. I honestly loved it and I am pretty sure I will come back at the end of my travels. Thank you for sharing your home!

This was the perfect way for me to end my road trip, to unwind, to just relax and listen to the birdsong without any other noises. Rowan made sure that I could easily find the location, the check in was a breeze and then everything I might need was already taken care of in the cottage itself. I recommend this to anyone who wants a bit of peace in nature but still remain cozy and comfortable!

  • I really recommend this lovely place!

    Martin2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a great little find! This cottage was the perfect place for two old school friends from different countries to meet, sit in the sun with a glass of wine or 3, listen to the babbling brook, the animals on the hillside and enjoy the peace and serenity. Rowan’s place had everything we needed. It was spotlessly clean and well appointed with a lovely comfortable bed and so peaceful that we didn’t wake up until half an hour before check out time! Highly recommended if you want to get away from it all.

The kitchen has got all the amenities to cook a complete meal-2 pits (camping)gascooker, small fridge, oven, pots/pans, crockery, complementary coffee/tea, some spices. If you don`t feel like cooking your own meal, Lyttelton offers a host of restaurants, cafes and bars. And there is a Saturday morning market where you can get fresh produce and listen to some great local live music. The cabin/sleep out has a total of about 25 m2, (URL HIDDEN) space, semi-outdoor kitchen about 14m2. Kitchen is seperate but right next to the cabin/sleep out. This is a kitchen with a view!!. From your breakfast, lunch, dinner table enjoy the ever changing light over water, hills, sky.
Almost at the end of the road, high on the hill near the head of a small valley with trees and houses dotted around.
  • what a stunning location and great value for money:)

  • A unique stay in a great spot. The view is great to just sit and enjoy along with sounds of the birds. Driving the streets of Lyttelton also an experience.

  • Very clean, refreshing, simple, comfortable bed, and a very beautiful dining space. When you get up in the morning, you can see the plants planted by the landlord. It is very happy! All of Love!

  • Lovely small flat with a nice view which is immediately outside the main house. It was nice that we had the whole space to ourselves as Joke wasn’t in, but it might feel overlooked with the main house occupied. Otherwise everything was lovely and the gas cooking facilities worked well with lovely hot water. Would recommend!

Tucked in at the base of the Port Hills, Tussock Hill Farm is situated on 35 acres of rolling pasture offering a superb rural escape while only 10 minutes drive from central Christchurch. The Tiny Tussock is nestled on the hill in the beautiful Avoca Valley. Located down a long drive, following the Avoca stream and native bush, this unique space provides privacy and tranquility. With cows and sheep roaming the paddocks, feel free to explore all that the farm has to offer.
The Tiny Tussock is a well equipped and completely self-contained guesthouse which is off the grid and run by solar power. Enjoy the rustic deck and bbq area as well as a late night soak in the outdoor bath, under the stars. No oven available however, we have a gas cooktop, toaster, jug and BBQ. No WiFi.
Perfectly located, the Tiny Tussock is close to many local amenities, cafes and eateries of Ferrymead, Sumner Village and Lyttelton. The Tannery is also within minutes, offering boutique shopping, restaurants and deluxe cinema. There are numerous outdoor activities within close proximity. We have many great walkways along the Port Hills, including the well known Rapaki track- which follows down the ridge and connects to the top of Tussock Hill Farm. The Port Hills are also renowned for their vast selection of mountain bike tracks, the adventure park being the ultimate playground. The number 28 bus is available on Port Hills road which takes you directly to and from the bus interchange in the central city. You may however, choose to go in the opposite direction which take you to the Lyttelton wharf. Stop off and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the port’s Sunday market or try out the numerous alternative eateries and bars. The popular Christchurch gondola is also located along this route. A must-do experience with spectacular views of the cityscape, Canterbury plains and the high peaks of the Southern Alps.
  • A great wee spot - you feel as though you’re in the middle of the country yet only 20 minutes from city.

    Maria2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • By far the best Airbnb we have stayed in. The tiny house is modern, clean and very comfortable. It is in a beautiful location on a farm but still very close to Christchurch central. Kate is a brilliant host & we will definitely stay again next time we are in Christchurch

    Dylan2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Kates place was clean, stylish and easy to find 👌🏼 We relaxed outside on the patio with wine and cheese looking over the farm and Christchurch Hills - perfect way to end our trip☀️ if your looking for accommodation I would highly recommend staying here - for travellers without a car there is a bus only 10 minutes walking from the gate so super easy to get to and from the farm. Also, if you have time definitely consider relaxing in the bathtub with a coffee or wine - perfect!

    Allison2020-03-03T00:00:00Z

Our home is very clean and tidy, and approximately 2 years old. The guest bedroom attracts morning sunshine, whilst the living area is drenched in afternoon sunshine. We are within walking distance to Ara, Ntec and the city. The cities beaches, gondola and Lyttleton are 12 minutes by car. The Purple bus stops 5 minutes from home, and this allows easy access all over Christchurch.
Our home is ideal for single travellers and students who value a quiet and restful home close to the heart of Christchurch. It is a modern townhouse that is warm and dry in winter and cool in summer. We take genuine pride in how we keep our home clean and welcoming to all our guests.
Waltham is close to Christchurch City, an eclectic mixture of new homes and old. It is a quiet, green neighbourhood close to many of the lovely activities visitors love to do.

  • I loved my stay at this place, I could not fault any aspect, it was superb (hospitality, cleanliness, location)! Linda was a lovely host, so accommodating to all my needs and so easy to have a chat with. It really was a home away from home - a real treat for someone arriving for their first time in NZ.

Enjoy complimentary breakfast while you sit on the verandah and get lost in the wonderful sound of the flowing stream and native birdsongs. Cozy-up with a book beside the fireplace within this serene cabin boasting hardwood floors and charming decor.
Imagine a little cottage situated far from any road and over looking a beautiful stream, with a large queen bed that looks directly at the native bush. Bathroom with eco friendly amenities, a toaster and kettle on hand and a fridge for your locally purchased produce. There is a BBQ on the verandah for the outdoor cooks. Your breakfast menu: Home baked ciabatta, local jams, local butter, home made muesli and Cereal, tea/coffee.
The cottage is set within the Huka Huka Toroa Reserve, on the Banks Peninsula in the town of Little River. The township itself features a historic railway station home to the Craft Station Cooperative, which sells local produce, art, and crafts.
  • We had a great stay at Little River Cottage for our anniversary. It was such a peaceful place to get away from it all. We did the bush walk - be aware this is is a bit steep and slippery in places and took a wee while to do, so wear good shoes. Adam loved having some cold water therapy in the waterfall in the morning! Breakfast was lovely, gluten free accommodated, and there was even a note detailing the gf options. I really wish we had booked for more than one night!

    Zoe2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay in Little River. So serene and cosy, and the breakfast fairies were such a special extra touch! Would highly recommend.

    Mike & Erica2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was a beautiful place to stay for a few days as part of our road trip, with the sound of the river beneath you and the birds above. The indoor fireplace keeps you warm in those colder nights. And the breakfast fairies are of course worth a mention, with a delightful and delicious spread each morning! Thanks Sandra and Jody :)

  • Very beautiful house and views here.Jody is very nice and friendly to us. Delicious food and pleasant stay.

  • A great secluded stay amongst native bush. The cottage was spotless and had everything you need to feel at home. We enjoyed walking along the river to the swimming hole and would have loved to jump in had it been a bit warmer! The breakfast was a treat. We are looking forward to going back one day.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Annette's place. The room and amenities are not only clean and easy to access - but are very modern and pleasing to the eye. Not only the room I stayed in and bathroom used, but the whole house and garden out the back. Great location! I had a rental car so found it a great spot to be based. Very close to the beach but also not far from the city - and easy to get out onto highways to travel on the outskirts of Christchurch. Annette is friendly - will happily chat and share thoughts/advice on places to go but also willing to give you space to come and go when needed without having to 'check in' each day. This was a great place for my week's stay - Great value for money. I felt very comfortable throughout the week and would definitely return if I was in the area again.

    Erin2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed the very clean and stylish house which is close to the sea. The location is perfekt for a run next to the beach, a lazy day in the library or explore the downtown Christchurch. Annette is for me a superhost: beautiful house, great location and a welcoming and friendly host.

    Damaris2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • It's a lovely place. It's close to the beach (about 10 minutes walk). Annette was quite helpful for everything. She's a lovely lady and I enjoyed the discussions I had with her and my stay over there. Good luck for everything!

  • Annette's place comes highly recommended from me.Couldnt have stayed in a nicer place with a lovely hostess who makes you feel completely at home. The bed was ever so comfy and what an awsome shower with amazing pressure.I felt like I was living in luxury. The location is great as bus stop is just around the corner and it's half way between North Beach and Brighton. What amazing value for money.Thank you Annette for the opportunity to stay in your beautiful home.

  • We had an amazing stay at Marias home. As we live with other people 24/7 it was a really refreshing couple of weeks in our own private space. Thank you Maria and family for your kindness, thoughtfulness, and the little touches. We want to come back already. I think we shall. The selection of reading material was diverse and relative, access and privacy excellent. Bed super comfy, Gary thought so too, facilities modern, sparkling clean.

  • Airbnb gets you into lovely houses in great locations. This was one of them. Almost as high as the famous Christchurch gondola, close by (we nipped around for a go. TIP: the gondola and city tram tour $50 together is a great way to max a short stay. ) Lovely private room, with all you need for a short stay and a genial host. What’s not to love?

    Séamus2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a spectacular setting high on the hill. Chilled out space.

    Nigel2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Maria’s spare room is lovely! The house is located on a stunning mountain with gorgeous views. The room was really private and separate from the rest of the house with an en-suite bathroom and was really quite spacious! The bed was super comfy and large. Maria was a very thoughtful and kind host - greeted us on arrival, showed us around and was in touch regularly. She left out some breakfast essentials like toast and cornflakes and milk, which was super kind! Overall we really enjoyed our brief 2 night stay at Maria’s as a stop off on our month long kiwi road trip and would highly recommend!

This charming villa, situated in the heart of Wainui, is full of character. With panoramic views overlooking Akaroa Harbour and the surrounding hills, this is a superb spot to relax and unwind. Come and enjoy the unique environment any time of the year. This spacious family home has 5 bedrooms, kitchen/living room with large log burner and another living/dining room with a beautiful open fire, both opening onto the veranda. I look forward to hosting you in my delightful home and its surrounds.
Just a 5-minute walk from the beach, there are plenty of options for activities during your stay. Fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming and walking to name a few. There are also tennis courts in Wainui with tennis rackets and balls available.
Wainui is very picturesque, quiet and tranquil. Made up of holiday homes and under 100 permanent residents, there is a rocky shoreline and when the tide is out you can walk around it. You can fish from the beach and it is very safe for children. The water is cold but lovely. The surrounding hills are also divine, with pockets of native bush and some lovely walks. A great place for dogs! Things to do nearby: Purchase some fresh Akaroa Salmon from the Wainui wharf Visit the Shamarra Alpaca Farm French Farm Winery & Restaurant - a very short distance away Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the summertime. Beautiful garden and grounds.
  • Amazing location and stunning scenery. This is going on the favourites list for sure! Thanks

  • Beautiful country get away! Waking up with the views was magical! Great little extra touches! Fresh eggs! Beautiful little rose arrangements in each room!

    Janelle2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a unique, beautiful, large classic home with a fantastic view of the water. The bed is comfortable and the home clean as can be. There is a piano to play and a sweet purring cat outside that you can feed. Caro generously supplied breakfast supplies including eggs and a delicious muesli. Her communication was spot on, including the advice to purchase groceries before you get to Wainui as you cannot get them there. Recommend you visit the cute French town of Akaroa during your stay, although the best part of our visit was just living in the home. We did not want to leave.

    Stephen2020-03-03T00:00:00Z

  • Me and my partner loved our stay, so relaxing and completely out of the hussle of life. We stayed for two nights and wished it could of been a week. Plenty of things to do and go look at if you like that too. Recommend it to anyone and we’ll definitely be going back. Lovely helpful hosts just leave you to it lots of privacy. The outdoor bath and shower are amazingly good at night. Give it a try you’ll be very happy you did.

A fully self contained studio over looking Taylor's Mistake beach, Christchurch's best surf beach. Close to Sumner for restaurants and bars. Surfing, walking tracks and mountain biking just out the door. Wifi available. Many guests regret they only allowed a one night stay after arriving or about to leave NZ and wished they had the extra night to walk on the beach or headland tracks.
The studio has a Kauri timber floor and large bifold doors to small patio over looking a peaceful garden and bush to views of the beach and Godley Heads. Beautiful sun and moon rises off the ocean. Walking track to beach.
Taylors Mistake is one of the best surf beaches in Christchurch but also accesses some of Canterbury's best coastal walks and mountain bike tracks just out the door. Over the hill is Sumner village with many small restaurants, take aways, movie theatre and bars.
  • Location is superb. Hearing the waves and the sweet smell of the sea is a bonus.

  • The apartment ist beautiful an really stylish. We loved the furniture. The bed was so comfy. And it’s really so close to the beach. We found a nice bench at the dunes and we’re reading there the whole day. Thank you so much!

  • It's so nice to stay Megan and Jean-Pierre's place for 4 nights, everything was perfect. The guest suite provides everything we want--privary, spavious space, sparkling clean room, entertainments (such as books, wifi and TV) and the best location to beach (only 2 minutes walk). They also provide very healthy breakfast: homemade muesli, yoghurt and fruit, which taste so good...It's more than what we expected. Thank you so much for your warm welcome and gracious hospotality, we really appreciate it... We're looking forward to staying at your place again when we travel Christchurch next time.

  • Jeans suite is an all star place . Looked small in the pics but was quite huge when Jean himself personally introduced himself and showed us the amazing place . He also offered 2 free bicycles for local transport too . This place is a grab on deal for the price he offers. It is very close to the new brighton pier and the beach itself . What more do you need .

So close to amenities one way and amazing natural features the otherway. Looking forward to meeting you. Room is good for a single or a couple. Extra guests $10 per night.
Kia ora, this is home of Dalice and Mark. We also have a cat We work full time so wont be home during the day but stay up late at night downstairs. We are keen to share cultures and a meal from time to time if we are free. The house is large and secure and all 4 bedrooms and the shared bathroom is upstairs.
The house is on a small cul de sac street. Our family have lived here for 15 years. There are beautiful walks and scenery within 10 minutes walk of the house. And the city is within 10mins drive. Ask us if we are available during weekends to take you sight seeing if you like.
  • Very friendly and great tips for the trips.

  • I stayed here for about 3 months. I was here for an internship related to my university in America. This place is nice and the beautiful Avon River is walking distance, and also walking distance to a golfing location if that's something you are interested in. The host and her partner are great and friendly people so it's easy to be comfortable there. They even let me borrow a bike to get to my internship which was much appreciated. This is as good an airbnb place as possible!

Super chill little Retro Hut. *Indepedent Rural property, small, clean and safe. Double bed, little kitchen, lounge and outdoor area. Mains power and heater. Fully independent, a small walk away from funky toilets and bathroom at the back of main house. Wider property includes one other small Studio, little flower farm, outdoor kitchen and open campfire area. 1min drive to beach and bushwalks close by. 20min drive to Akaroa for dolphins, shopping and good coffee. Come and relax and unwind.
Banks Peninsula is a gem in the New Zealand scenery. Pigeon Bay specifically gives you an experience of the outer bays, which are more rural and quieter than the inner harbour and Akaroa. The property is run organically and intuitively. I honour the potential to live holistically in balance from the physical to the spiritual, and offer my place as a place to rest and practise this balance. I am a meditative artist and modern Palm Reader (not fortune teller as the lines on the palm change) with an office in Akaroa. I offer readings for guests. I also grow and sell Indoor Plants and cut flowers 🌸. I believe the world is constantly evolving and is in the midst of great technological, ecological and spiritual change. I aim to provide a place to rest, balance and settle in these modern times.
  • This place is awesome! It's so worth it even for just a night's stay at Fiona's hut. The place is tiny but it had everything we needed and it had such a beautiful and peaceful setting overlooking all of the sheep and cows next to the hut!

Welcome to our newly built, self contained apartment on Clifton Hill, Sumner. With panoramic views over the estuary and city, all the way to the Southern Alps and the Pacific Ocean, this is an idyllic spot to get away from it all and unwind. Enjoy absolute privacy, sun drenched warmth and spotless presentation. You'll hear native birds in the surrounding trees and the sound of the ocean below. If you've come for skiing or surfing check out the conditions from bed, with views from alps to ocean!
The apartment is fully self contained with a complete kitchen including oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, washing machine and dryer. Because the space enjoys absolute privacy there are no window coverings so you can enjoy the views day and night. There is a flat screen TV with Netflix and Lightbox plus free Wifi. Air conditioning and a ceiling fan keep you warm in the winter or cool in the summer. Everything is new and spotless. From our apartment you are just a stone's throw from Sumner Village where you will find cafes, bars, restaurants, movie theatres, shops and of course the beautiful beaches and famous Cave Rock. We recommend having a car when you stay here as we are at the top of a hill. There are many lovely walks and bike rides in this area and you can easily hire surfboards, paddle-boards, bikes, and even land yachts. We will be happy to help you find whatever you need to make your stay perfect.
Our neighbourhood is quiet and safe. We are located in Christchurch's premier beach suburb with two of our best beaches just a few minutes drive away and the Christchurch CBD 20 minutes by car or around 40 minutes by bus.

  • Absolutely stunning place to stay! Highly recommend to stay here. The view is to die for! The bed is super comfortable aswell, and all amenities are great for what you need. Loved being able to watch a movie at night too! We walked into town for dinner using the Zig Zag and although it was quite the adventure it was not far to get into town by foot. So perfect location if you want the view and still not far from the village. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spot Gabby!

The local Hollywood picture theater sits in the heart of Sumner & is worth a visit. Surf hire is available from the local surf shop Stoked and surf lessons are available on Sumner beach
  • A wonderful place with water views and the sounds of the ocean. The bed is very comfortable. There are alot of windows so the unit is very light and inviting. It is reached by a steep zig-zag road and has a tight parking space so a small car is best. We would definitely stay here again even though it is 20 minutes or so into Christchurch.

    Kim2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very private space with view of ocean. Spacious living room. Host is very friendly and can do a laundry load if asked. Location is right above Sumner Beach about 20 mins from Christchurch city center.

  • Helen’s place at Pigeon Bay was the perfect place to cap off the New Zealand leg of our trip. The space was absolutely stunning. Straight out of a home design magazine. We loved the fun art and beautiful view of the water from the outside dining table. A great spot to unwind from a long day’s drive, enjoy the hot tub and view. We also appreciated the breakfast kit. The en suite bathrooms were a nice touch as well.

  • Helen's house on the Banks Peninsula is an exquisite perch in of New Zealand's most dramatic landscapes. A beautiful and stylish house in a dramatic setting, stocked with an eccentric and personal art and furniture collection, with a high-quality kitchen. This is a seriously luxurious bolthole away from it all. Helen was a gracious and efficient host. Highly recommended.

There was a nice large Bath tub that we didn’t use. There were many food items that were a special bonus! You can’t go wrong here.

Gateway to Banks Peninsula; village cafe& art gallery, walks & mountain biking.
We live on a well established rural property, nestled among native bush, an orchard, and walnut trees. Quail feed on the lawn each morning, and native wood pigeon & bell birds live in the trees. A stream runs through the center of our property that is home to the long fin eel and trout during spawning season. Our home is surrounded by farm country where sheep and cattle, donkeys, pigs, ducks, geese and alpacas are common sightings within 1 km. We have 2 chickens and 2 cats.
Our neighborhood is quite and peaceful with beautiful native bush and a stream. Many bike and walking tracks close by. Two great cafe's, an art gallery a craft shop and library are only a 20 minute walk away.
  • I stayed for two nights as a base for exploring Banks Peninsula. As I had my own vehicle, the location was superb for this purpose. While the room was not large, it had its own toilet and an anteroom with tea-making facilities. The outlook from the room was sublime, with a view of bush and garden through two large windows, and I loved going to sleep to the sound of the water in the brook. Christine and Kim were generous and personable hosts who went out of their way to make my stay pleasant. I recommend them and would stay again without hesitation.

  • I Returned a second time to now my favourite place in New Zealand, where I find true hospitality and total serenity! Spotless clean, the comfiest bed with crisp white sheets, only the birds, wind and the bubbling brook to break the silence. A true home from home, and the best home made bread and hosts! It has it all and the price is unbeatable!

    Rachel2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful, tranquil & just lovely! We were welcomed into Christine & Kim’s home by the cats & a welcome note as they had a prior engagement. However we saw them later & they are both just lovely & warm people, we felt so at ease like our own home. The bread that Christine bakes for breakfast is just another lovely touch & ;.added bonus!! We wouldn’t hesitate to book again should we be in the area again, it’s so lovely.

  • A beautiful home in a beautiful setting - a veggie patch, an orchard, a babbling brook and the most amazing hosts.

    Angela2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • clean and comfortable room, very welcoming and attentive people

    Laure2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had wonderful 2 nights at this place. Amazing hospitality and really good recommendations. The breakfast was jummy and the bed really comfortable. Thank you for everything! We would definitely stay there again.

    Anna2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Christine’s house was the best possible way of starting our holiday. The place is like out of a fairytale, especially the garden and the stream that gives you good night. Also Christine is very friendly and will give you good local tips and homemade breakfast is a cherry on top.

  • Christine and Kim's home is a true haven of a retreat, not too far from Little River to feel disconnected, but far enough to feel away from it all amongst the peace of country lanes and acreages. With a bubbling brook right outside the bedroom window to soothe the soul, amazing garden and serene home, it was hard to decide to relax in the peace of the home, or go for a short drive and walk upon recommendation to a local hillside with incredible views and bizarre windswept trees. Grateful I did both! The welcome to use their home and space, and feel part of it, was unrivalled . The best freshly baked bread greeted me in the morning, and a flexible check out due to their kindness. I will be back. I LOVED all of it so much. Christine and Kim are a true blessing and use their home so beautifully to bless others.

My home is a small brick bungalow with a private back garden. It is located opposite the beach down a private shared drive way. It is cosy and warm with a log burner. I share my home with a friendly dog and cat as well as 2 chickens who live in a coup in the garden. I do not make breakfast however I supply breads and spreads. With a selection of teas and coffee. I am happy for you to use the kitchen for meals.
My home is also my studio where i paint and work on costumes for the theatre company I work for. It has a cosy and relaxed atmosphere.
The nieghbourhood is quiet. I have family living on either side of me.
  • Warm - generous & thoughtful host Nelleke’s place is truly a gem right by the sea. Highly recommend anyone passing through to stay here. Sweet little backyard garden - adorable cat & dog bring a cosy warmth to this charming sea side cottage. Two thumbs up! We loved it here.

  • Lovely place to stay and I could stay here as I stay at my home. Absolutely amazing and highly recommend to stay.

    Akihiro2019-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nelleke's place is as described. It is very clean and quirky! She was easy going and friendly. We only stayed one night, but if we were there longer I am sure we would have had plenty to chat about. For those who aren't used to NZ homes, be aware that the driveway and parking spot are very tight.

  • I love spending time in New Brighton. if you don't have a car it is a bit of a long bus trip from downtown Christchurch. Being able to take our coffee and walk to the beach was a great way to start each morning

    Lisa2019-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Nelleke made me feel welcome and at home. Her house is really nice, artistic, cosy and just across the road from the beach. Lovely garden. I wish I could have stayed longer. Highly recommended !

    Silvia2019-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The house is located by the sea, and we like the beach. The landlord is a teacher and artist with a dog and a cat at home. They are very friendly. We like small animals and come for it. Despite the language barrier, the landlord communicated very happily with us. Especially with the interaction between the children, after leaving for a long time, the children said that they missed the landlord very much. Yes, I miss too, miss everything there.

  • This is a colourful, creative home. Its whole atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed. Nelleke is warm and friendly, and Sid the cat and Ruby the dog provide great amusement.

  • Wonderful house, beautiful garden, great host and the best dog to go with to the beach! I would always come back!!!

Tiny house located in Christchurch's premium holiday destination. Stunning expansive views over Sumner beach, across the ocean to the Alps. Newly built in a classic style, The Hut is a little place with timeless charm. Private, sunny and sheltered, in this peaceful location you will fall asleep to the sound of the ocean and wake up to bird song. Access to the Hut is a few minutes up a walking track. Close to the beach and esplanade. Surfing, biking, swimming, walking tracks, cafes all on hand.
This is a walk on property that will take 3-5 minutes to access by foot. The paved track is quite steep and requires a moderate level of fitness. Cars can be parked for free on the street at the bottom of the walking track. The Hut is a small studio space with a basic kitchen and a queen size sofa futon. There is a bar to sit up to for your meals which has a huge window with spectacular views. There are two outside deck areas, one small one which catches the morning sun and a bigger deck which gets afternoon sun. The unique bathroom is outside in a private covered area enclosed with timber slatting and natural boulders.
Wander down the Flowers Track to the Sumner Esplanade which runs along next to the beautiful Sumner beach. It's about a 15 minute walk into Sumner village where there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and a cinema. You can also walk up the Flowers Track and over the hill to Taylor's Mistake Beach which feels more remote and wild. There are plenty more walking tracks in the area as well as mountain biking and surfing beaches.
  • Such a unique little hut! We were traveling with our 7 month old daughter and the hut is super cozy. Though my daughter cosleeps but there isn't space to keep a portable cot. Very different experience for sure. We loved the bathroom. Million dollar view from the hut too! Loved loved our stay here

  • The Hut is such a wonderful place to get away. Check in was a breeze and the space is beautiful. The view is absolutely fabulous and worth the walk. We were relying on public transport during our visit and it was pretty easy to get around and into the city. We definitely would recommend!

    Michelle2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space, one of the cooler parts of our trip

    Coby2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing stay. Close to the city, yet tucked high away where you can just relax. Watch surfers, listen to waves crash on the beach, and take in the coastline views from high above the city in your own retreat amongst the cliffs. Wish I lived in Christchurch so I could stay here when I needed a reset.
