  • We wish we could give our stay at the Gowanbridge B&B more than 5 stars, because it was such an amazing experience for us, and Sandra and Peter truly went above and beyond as the perfect hosts. We're so glad they allowed us to stay on the farm with our 4-year old son, because he will be talking about his wonderful adventures with the horses, donkeys and tractors for years to come! The setting is unbelievably gorgeous and peaceful, the hosts are absolute gems, the apartment is spacious, comfortable and exceptionally clean, and the breakfast is delicious. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

Everything is spotlessly clean and well provisioned including a nice selection for breakfast. Don’t look further if you need accommodation in this area.

  • Fabulous!!!! The space is very big with plenty of beds for everyone. The kitchen is fully equipped with anything you could need. The hosts provided a huge, delicious breakfast complete with apples from their garden. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. We both really enjoyed getting to chat with the hosts and we would highly highly recommend this place to anyone traveling through the area.

The communal area had bug nets around so you could sit outside and enjoy the relaxing music without being eaten alive. It was a bonus being able to use a bbq too. The view of the stars in the evening was amazing. Great place for a stopover.

  • Very peaceful old style bach, super clean, close to lake. Were only 2 of us, but would also work well for a bigger group.

    Penelope2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying here. Surrounded by woods. Warm and welcoming space with many places to relax. Wifi works well. We walked down to the lake every evening to watch the sun set and say hello to the eels under the jetty. The cottage got a bit warm in the afternoon on a hot summer's day, but there are many doors and windows to open for airflow. Would recommend!

  • Don's house is located in front of Lake Rotoiti. It is very close to everywhere. The house is quite large, very comfortable and well-equipped. We went swimming in the lake. Everything is fine. It is recommended to attach a hair dryer. After swimming, you can let the long hair dry earlier Thank you, Don

Our log cabin is located on a 50acre lifestyle farm in a hidden valley an hour south of Nelson and 40 minutes north of Murchison. It is peaceful and private with stunning mountain views and space to relax. With no traffic noise, the only sounds you will hear are the native birdsong and the Little Hope River running gently beside the property.
We are fully off the grid and operate our own hydro-electricity unit and solar water heating. There are no power lines, no internet reception and no cellphone coverage. Come to us for a break from technology, reconnect with the natural surroundings and recharge your soul. Past guests often tell us it is so relaxing here they wish they’d stayed longer, so if you have the time consider staying an extra night or two. The river running through the property offers many scenic river walks to swimming holes, picnic spots and even an old railway bridge. We run a lifestyle farm on our side of the property, and you are most welcome to come and meet the animals and learn a little of what we do. Triple Tui is located in one of New Zealand’s best trout fishing areas. Your host Steve is an experienced fly-fishing and hunting guide, and would be more than happy to arrange a fly-fishing or hunting expedition for your stay. Our log cabin is perfect for a romantic getaway where you can simply relax and unwind.
We are up a quiet rural valley, so you will mostly hear birds and the river. Not many cars venture passed us in a day. You will have total peace and tranquility.
  • Their place was amazing! We absolutely loved the nature - the views from the cabin, the sound of the river, our hike up the river to the old train bridge, the animals, and our nice indoor fire. It was so peaceful being off the grid and we wished we could have stayed longer. It was very private. Tracey was very friendly and kind and we enjoyed our chats with her. We loved the adventurous car trek through the paddocks to the cabin as well :) This was a very memorable experience and we would definitely return.

Thanks again for an awesome stay!

Our fully renovated 1930s bungalow is nestled in the stunning alpine village of St Arnaud, just a short 5min stroll from the clear waters of Lake Rotoiti. Perfect in any season. In winter curl up with a book, put the heat pump on high and take in the views of the snow capped mountains. Bask in the sun, have a BBQ and pop down to the lake for a dip in summer. Just 1min away from native bush walks running alongside a stream, you’ll love the native birdsong and fresh mountain air.
The bach has everything you need to enjoy a secluded escape. There are two main bedrooms, a master bedroom with a double bed and another bedroom with a single bed. All beds are high quality and newly purchased. The third bedroom which also features a comfy single bed, is in the fully enclosed porch area. It is worth noting that you will need to walk through this room to access the bathroom however there is a privacy curtain in the bedroom that can be pulled. We now have WIFI so you can stay connected with the outside world (if you wish to). There is a small TV with Freeview channels and a DVD player. If the alpine weather closes in you can snuggle up and watch a DVD or choose one of the classic board games to play. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything from a blender to a sandwich press as well as plenty of cooking and baking gear so you can whip up a batch of scones on a snowy day! There is also a dish drawer and insinkerator to make cleaning up a breeze. To keep you warm (or cool) the bach is fitted with a heat pump.
The Nelson Lakes area has loads on offer including stunning bush walks or hikes, water sports on the lake, Rainbow Ski Area and trail bike tracks. Lake Rotoiti itself is a 5 minute walk from the bach either through beautiful native bush or down the paved footpath of the main road. The bach is within short walking distance of all St Arnaud facilities and the village centre. The Alpine Lodge Restaurant and Bar is a short stroll away as is the local store, cafe, chapel, gift shop, community hall and Department of Conservation headquarters.

  • Arran very friendly, and shares his knowledge of birds in yard. Comfy, cozy cottage, great for a night of rest. Pizza nearby is good!

  • Arran’s place is cute, super clean and very comfortable. If you are happy to eat out, it offers everything you’ll need for a pleasant and restful stay in Murchison. The location is perfect for exploring the scenically splendid Nelson Lakes area. We were so surprised to find ourselves in such a wonderful spot. Alpine snow fields, mirror lakes, wild rivers and hardly a tourist in sight!

We are located to the right of the DOC Visitor Centre at 15 View Road (not 11 as it says above!). Spacious and sunny, Fyfe's Place is surrounded by a balcony, perfect for soaking up lake and mountain views and being serenaded by a chorus of native birds. We feel privileged to have our own private track down to the lake. There is plenty of indoor heating as well as a well stocked open fire place to gather around on wintry evenings. Relax and enjoy.
Spacious, comfortable and light with wonderful views and full amenities. We have a well resourced kitchen with 2 fridges, microwave, dishwasher, stove top, oven and a variety of coffee making machines. There are 2 toilets, a bath and a shower. Guests love the open fireplace. In a cupboard in the kitchen there are a multitude of board games, jigsaw puzzles. Sky TV is provided and there are lots of books and magazines to browse.
    Plenty of parking.
  • Awesome place, very warm and comfortable.

  • Great location for access to the lake & loads of boat parking. Very well equipped bach with a great garden for kids to play which also gives direct access to the lake. Enough room for two families. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at this delightful family cottage. The bed was most comfortable and the location was peaceful and ideally situated. Highly recommended.

  • Lovely warm place with access to the lake through the backyard, modern comfy mattresses and a well equipped kitchen.

    Michael2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fyfe’s place was an unexpected little gem. Surprisingly well sized, with that all too familiar Bach smell. They’d just had new beds put in which made the experience even better. The lake was an easy 5 minute stroll. Cable TV for those movie nights. Great size for a family or a nest to have people around. Nice collection of games and puzzles. Fully equipped kitchen with lots of fridge space. Even a coffee machine! Will definitely be coming back!

  • A great place to relax and revive, with the most divinely comfortable bed!!. We had 2 nights here after biking the West Coast Wilderness trail, and enjoyed a few days resting up and taking in some lovely lake walks Pip and Kevin are warm and helpful hosts.

    Liz2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed staying here - probably the best stay of our NZ trip so far.

    Martin2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Pip's apartment is the self contained lower level of the family home. It is extremely spacious, modern, sparkling clean, and set in attractively landscaped grounds. We appreciated the photos and art works on the walls. For us it was a perfect place to spend our last night in the South Island before driving to Picton the next morning and heading back to the North Island.

    Ian2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place, beautiful location, really comfortable and quiet, very friendly welcome from Pip and Finn the dog. Ideal place to rest after a long tramp. Would highly recommend.

  • A nice clean, bright and modern house with some of the best views in the township, and still within walking distance of the township amenities and the lake. It is a bit of a climb up from the street though, and we wouldn’t attempt the driveway without 4WD.

  • One of the best AirBnbs we’ve ever stayed. It was only the two of us this time but it would be perfect for two couples, with each having their own king bed and en-suite apartment at opposite ends of the house. This is a place you could stay for an extended time; all appliances available and full-size; all kitchenware for cooking up a storm; full laundry facilities. I’d love to come back in winter to see to sit and watch the view of the mountains out those wonderful windows.

    Susan2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Superb views from this house. Very luxurious accommodation. Extremely comfortable.

    Alex2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! No words to this space justice. Unbelievably stunning home set on the hillside with views from the windows that look like paintings. Stay. HERE.

    Robin2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • This house probably has the premier location in town. Set on the hill it enjoys stunning views across the lake from all rooms - including while sitting up in bed with a morning coffee. Well equipped with everything you need and spotlessly clean. Perfect for two couples.

    Graham2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew's place is located up a small incline, it therefore provides beautiful views of the mountain range. the unit itself is spacious and has all the amenities needed for a very comfortable stay. highly recommended

    Benjamin2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, what a beautiful spot to stay. The house is just as bright, clean and welcoming as it looks, with fabulous views and native trees all around. The Lake is a short 5-min walk away, and the restaurant and shop are even closer... if you need them! We took food and did most of our cooking at the house, which was perfectly set up for it. An incredibly relaxing trip. We'd happily return, anytime!

It's a lovely, quiet, self-contained room, with kitchenette, bathroom and its own front porch. It has two king-single beds, a fridge, a microwave, a heater, a fan, a hair-dryer, a DVD player and WIFI...You wake to the sound of the river, within a stone's throw, and birdsong....
Murchison is a little mountain village at the western end of the Four Rivers Plain, on the way to "everywhere..." (an hour and a half from Nelson or the West Coast, three and a half hours from Christchurch). There are eight rivers weaving through this valley among the mountains. It's one of the gateways to Kahurangi National Park. It's also the whitewater capital of New Zealand - with kayaking, whitewater rafting, bush tramps, gold-fossicking and, arguably, some of the best brown trout fishing the country has to offer...
The Front Room is walking distance to all of Murchison, and looks out on paddocks, poplars, beeches and willows leading down to the river. This little settlement is surrounded by mountains and, sometimes, mist which loops the bush-covered hills like a river ghost. In winter, we have frosts and snow - in summer, the temperature can soar above 35 under a bright, cloudless sky. Murchison (permanent pop. 490-ish) has cafes, a museum, a kayak school, a butcher with the best bacon in the South Island, a patisserie with a wonderful French pastry chef, white-water rafting on NZ's longest untamed river, a swing bridge (just down the road) and there's gold in them thar rivers...!
  • I would highly recommend staying here. We had a very short stay but it was great. Everything you needed was there, including a teapot with teacosy. There was some fantastic artistic furniture and pieces, a wide selection of books and dvds. Good kitchen and home grown plums. The beds were very comfortable and the place was clean. We loved chatting to our hosts Margy and Lindsay and would definitely return, should we ever return to NZ.

    Linda2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a warm and nice Stay! We enjoyed every Minute of it- the Hospitality, warmth and fiendliness are just a delight. Thx Lindsay and margy for the nice chats, the Great tipps and most tasteful eggs. Highly recommended !

  • We had a lovely overnight stay while on our way to Abel Tasman. The hosts greeted us so warmly. You can tell how much they love their home. The studio was quiet, private, clean, and filled with fun art and some handmade furniture. The little kitchen had just what we needed to make a quick microwave meal. We had fresh fruit waiting for us as well. We would definitely recommend this place.

  • This is a top place! The house and space are a wonderful mix of old and modern. An old time Kiwi house with mod cons: The room (s) are spacious comfortable and sparkling clean. Loved it. The two woman are a hoot! Fun and engaging ( if you wish ) full of life and tips of where to go who to speak too etc Will leave you alone if that’s what you wish or engage with some wine and stimulating conversation. My cottage is close to Nelson Lakes National Park and Rainbow Ski field. You’ll love my place because it's set amongst farmland and has a wonderful view over the river. The bed is a European King size bed with 2 single mattresses and is very comfy. Your room has it's own TV and is next to the bathroom. If you are looking for an experience, then a bath under our beautiful starry sky will be one you won't forget.
My home is a modest New Zealand style cottage furnished with European furniture and decors. It is located in a valley away from traffic noise and has a million dollar view! On site is an outdoor bath ( surcharge for use) and plenty of space to chill out in. This is a place people come to to enjoy nature, tranquility and the sound of birds to wake to. Nearby is the Nelson Lakes National Park. Fishing, hiking, walks, 4WD, mountain biking, hang gliding and skiing in winter are a few of the activities on my doorstep. Within 1.5hrs drive are Nelson, Blenheim, Westport, Abel Tasman National Park, Wineries and Arts and Craft galleries. I love to be outside, read, paint, work in the garden and cook using home grown products. I am a Kiwi but have lived in Europe for over 20 years. I speak Dutch, German, Italian, French. I have come back to NZ to enjoy the outdoors and bring with me a touch of the European flair in hospitalilty and food.
There are no neighbours to be seen, just cows, sheep and nature. Down the road is a waterhole in the river. There is plenty of parking on site and the area is very safe.
  • Jennifer is a warm host. The house is very nice and quiet. The dinner tasted excellent. The room is cozy. Nelson Lakes is a nice area for hiking. I really enjoyed the days.

  • Absolutely everything about my stay with Jennifer was lovely. A comfy bed, a welcoming home, a delicious dinner, great conversations, beautiful patio views - I could go on and on. Take up the offer to take a bath outside, it was a highlight of my stay.

  • Jennifer's place offers the opportunity to lay back and refuel the batteries, having walks in the Howard Valley and interesting exchanges with Jennifer and her neighbors bringing NZ close to you. We enjoyed our three days at her place very much.

    Wolfram2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Jennifer's was wonderful. Spoilt by homemade breakfast breads and jams. Jennifer is a breeze to chat to and provides a wealth of local and regional knowledge. The bed comfortable, the cats not too perturbed plus a beautiful stroll behind the property to take in the surrounds from a lofty hill-top. Highly recommend!

    Campbell2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer's place is immaculately clean and very well presented. Her cats were a special delight. This was my first experience sharing a living space with a host and I loved it. Jennifer's well travelled, very knowledgeable about the area and is a great cook. Highly recommended for travellers who's after peace and quiet, and genuine hospitality.

  • Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay at the Woodsmans Den. The location was absolutely stunning and we loved the views of the old growth forests right out the back door. B The house was pristine and was very cozy. The hot tub was a nice treat at night too. Make sure you take some time to tour the grounds as the little trails and gardens are quite fun to explore. St. Arnaud is quickly becoming one of our favorite locations in NZ, but come prepared as the local restaurants and convenient store present limited options for visitors to the area. Apart from that, Anna was a lovely host and made sure all our needs were met. We hope to be back again soon!

    Liz2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is an outstanding place to stay. The photos do not do it justice. It is modern, stylish, quality accommodation in a lovely location. The hosts are very helpful - we would strongly recommend the ‘Den’

Well set up for a family holiday and an easy walk to the shops and forest walk to the lake
St Arnaud offers fabulous bush and mountain walks, lakeside activities and boating and in winter Rainbow Ski Field is only 40 minutes away.

  • Leisa's place gives you warmth, comfort, peace and quiet. The native bird song from the bush is a constant delight and the many amenities in the house are very thoughtful. The surrounding scenery with beautiful lakes make Saint Arnaud a memorable place to visit.

    Corinne2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect spot for our weekend boat racing at beautiful St Arnaud. Particularly loved the Nespresso and milk frother and our bed was so Comfie! Even our two little people had record breaking sleep ins. Thanks so much x

    Georgie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Leisa’s place was just perfect for a Christmas getaway. The house was perfectly clean, and the trouble had been made to set up a Christmas tree and thoughtful decorations around the house to make it feel like home! The house has SO many amenities, which was great as we spent most of our time in the house with friends. The pantry has been thoughtfully stocked with a few key items, which is great as St Arnaud selection is limited. The house does back onto the main road, but as it’s such a quiet place this wasn’t an issue at all The house is about a 10ish minute walk down to the lake (bug spray necessary, but that goes without saying :)), and only a short drive to the Mt Robert car park if you are planning some more adventurous hikes. After a nine hour day hike, the house was perfect to come back to and curl up by the fire. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area :)

    Lindsay2019-12-29T00:00:00Z

  • What a beautiful artistic home! It was so comfortable, clean, great kitchen for preparing a meal and perfectly situated for our stay in St. Arnaud. 2 couples enjoyed the home, from the table with an incredible view of the lake, to the outdoor soaking tub and sauna. A water taxi took us out to the end of the lake for a walk about and back home to pizza take away! We highly recommend this home for a getaway!

  • This house may seem expensive but it is so lovely, relaxed and such a great design with amazing views. It is hard to leave to do all the amazing things you can around St Arnaud. Ben and Marcia are lovely hosts and so quick to respond to any questions.

  • Ben and Marcia's place is absolutely amazing! Everything was perfect - the house, the amenities, the views. We didn't attempt to drive up the driveway as our car is a bit low, but the garage is close so not a problem. Favourite bits: underfloor heating in the bathroom, sauna, spa, view, kitchen and super snug 'snug'.... everything really. We didn't want to leave :-)
