Places to stay in Rottingdean

Places to stay in Rottingdean
I have a lovely, first floor single room in my Edwardian house in the historic heart of Rottingdean. It is a quiet room with views of cottages and gardens. There is a very comfortable bed, original Edwardian wardrobe and restored antique drawers & desk. The room is tastfully decorated in a very peaceful colour scheme. There is a TV which offers bbc iplayer, Now TV and YouTube. Tea & coffee making facilities are provided. Along the landing there is a bathroom with a bath/shower & separate toilet.
Within a few minutes walk of my house you can see the beautiful St Margarets Church, the duck pond, the old village green and the picturesque Kipling Gardens. Also very close is the Grange art gallery & museum & the Windmill. The house is only 350 metres from the beach & seafront so perfect for an evening stroll before dinner. As my house is right in the centre of the village I don't offer breakfast. There are so many coffee shops and cafes that do a wonderful English Breakfast, Eggs Benedict or freshly baked croissants you won't go hungry. You will be spoilt for choice for traditional village pubs which offer a fantastic selection of local beers and gins and some offer live music. Only a 10-minute drive or bus ride to Brighton Marina and the cosmopolitan city centre, with numerous bars, live music, eateries, theatres, art galleries and antique shops. Enjoy shopping along The Lanes, saunter along the pier, visit the Royal Pavilion or ride the new i360. The glorious South Downs National Park with its excellent walks and cycle routes can be easily accessed from Rottingdean.
Rottingdean is often described as the hidden gem of Brighton. It has a special feel to it and although it is only 2 miles outside the city it retains all the characteristics of a village. It dates back to the Domesday book and has a Norman church and a pond and village green at it's heart. There are many pretty old cottages and historic houses in the village. The famous writer Rudyard Kipling, the Pre-Raphelite artist Edward Burne Jones and the artist William Nicholson all once resided in Rottingdean. There is a wonderful museum - The Grange with the most tranquil tea garden you can find. My house is right at the centre of village life so finding a place to have coffee is not difficult. There are many coffee shops and cafes (breakfast at the Sea Spray on the seafront is a must). Rottingdean boasts 5 pubs serving local ales and good food to suit all pockets. The seafront is a wonderful place whether in winter or summer.

  • Katherine's home is perfectly located on the high street. A quirky and wonderful cafe is opposite and welcoming pubs and the beach are just a minute or two away. Katherine strikes the perfect balance in supporting your visit and giving you the time and space to explore. Thank you.

  • Katherine was the perfect host, and her place gave me a wonderful base during my week's stay in which to explore Rottingdean and a rather large surrounding area, all by public transport (Brighton & Hove; Lewes; Charleston House & Garden and Monk's House) . . . the location was perfect for me! The town of Rottingdean was beautiful and my evening walks with Katherine's sweet dog Lily on nearby Beacon Hill and on the beach were very enjoyable and relaxing. Many thanks Katherine (and Lily) for everything!

In a quiet road, just ten minutes walk to the sea, beach & historic village which has numerous pubs, restaurants & tea rooms. There is a gate in the back garden with direct access to Beacon Hill Nature Reserve with panoramic views of the sea, South Downs & Brighton. Ideal for people who enjoy walking and nature, you will meet my 2 friendly rescue dogs & cat. Brighton is just 5 miles away and there are frequent buses. This will suit 1 or 2 adults wanting a quiet break.
The bed is a small double & measures 4" x 5'6"' so suits 1 or 2 small adults. There is a small en-suite shower room & the room is accessed via wooden paddle steps (once you have done them once or twice they are easy but there is a low ceiling). There are lovely views from the dormer window and with the blind open you can watch the stars from your bed. I have 2 friendly rescue dogs and often have doggy visitors too so animal lovers welcome! Tea, coffee & toast making facilities are provided in the room.
Rottingdean is a typical English village with a village green, pubs, a clifftop walk, tea rooms and restaurants. It has an interesting history and from the gate in my garden there is direct access to the historic wooden windmill on Beacon Hill, which also has a Neolithic burial mound. The views from behind the house are spectacular, you can see Brighton, via the famous Roedean School and Brighton Marina, with the beautiful South Downs behind. The Rampion Wind Farm can be seen and on a clear day the view is as far as the Isle of Wight.
  • A lovely place to stay, in a wonderful location, a cosy room and very attentive canine hosts;) We had a great time with Karen and her dogs ( Phoebe and Sugar), all the little details like the fresh flowers, fluffy towels and the guide book for the town made it all the more enjoyable. We hope to come again soon!:)

    Sophie2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Karen is a lovely & friendly host. Good communication. The room is cosy, and heats up super quick. Rottingdean village is lovely to stroll around, and catching a bus into Brighton is very easy. Would love to stay again

  • I’ve stayed at Karen’s place every time I’ve had the opportunity since I first discovered her place on Airbnb, and given the opportunity I’d definitely stay again. She is simply the perfect host, pays attention to your preferences and provides all the breakfast choices you need for a relaxing start to your day. Her two adorable friendly dogs have always been the cream on top of the cake for me.

    Paul2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Karen is an excellent host, friendly and easy to communicate with. Both Sugar and Pheebee are gorgeous and welcoming doggies The room is exactly as described, including the steps up to the room, it was clean, warm and comfortable and a lovely nights rest was had - I will definitely be booking again

    Tracy2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to stay, whether visiting Rottingdean or Brighton... lovely space, comfortable, peaceful and lovely touch of coffee machine and toast and cereal in the room for a convenient breakfast..... and, of course, Karen (and her rescue dogs Sugar & Phoebe) were perfect too........

    Kim2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • I can't praise Karen enough for her consistent fabulous hospitality. Karen has thought of everything to make a guest's stay as perfect as possible with so many extra touches that few other hosts even think of. If you have forgotten your toothbrush no need to worry Karen has even provided a brand new one for you! A great comfy bed and an en-suite shower room ensure that you feel refreshed in the morning as you eat your breakfast cereal, fresh toast and sip your tea or excellent coffee and look out over the Downs. A wonderfully quiet location, which is just a short and pleasant walk from Rottingdean with its tea-rooms, museum, antique shops and the beautiful Kipling Gardens and, of course, the seafront. The number 2 bus stop is an even shorter walk away. This is a haven of peace and tranquility, her two beautiful friendly and gentle dogs will melt your heart and make you wish you could stay longer. Once you find a host like Karen you will want to go back again and again.

    Paul2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • SUPERB! Karen was such a kind and wonderful hostess. My husband & I had the best time. Her place was spotless, comfy, and very well equipped. The walk behind her garden is simply marvellous, a must! Would stay at hers in a heartbeat.

  • I felt completely comfortable in Ann's Cottage. Loving, very thoughtful design, very good location in a well-kept environment, everything was fine. Communication with Ann was straightforward and fast, and Ann experienced it as a generous and accommodating hostess. I would like to come back!

  • This is a lovely cottage nestled in Rottingdean, such a treasure. Well appointed with all necessary fixtures plus more and wonderfully welcoming decor. The perfect peaceful location yet very accessible to bus routes, grocers, beaches, and the Undercliff Walk. Ann and Simon provide a lovely holiday cottage with all the details so well managed. Found it very relaxing, so easy to enjoy this sparkling retreat.

    Alex J2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • We felt at home in the sweet cottage, everything is lovingly decorated down to the smallest detail. We did not miss anything, to welcome there was even fresh bread, homemade jam and wine. The fridge was stocked with milk and butter. The contact to Ann was always available and very friendly! Due to the large selection of books and DVDs you could even make a cozy evening. The location was absolutely great, very quiet in a backyard, surrounded by many beautiful plants. Nevertheless, it is 10 minutes to the sea, the supermarket and the buses to Brighton. We'll be back!

    Melanie2019-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our holidays in the cottage of Ann. Everything was available what the heart desires. As it already had bread, butter and a homemade jam and tea, we could not wait for the trip and start our holidays full. The cottage is very cozy and lies in the old part of Rottingdean between beautiful and old houses. The sea is nearby and there are shopping possibilities in the village. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator We could really enjoy our holidays in the cottage of Ann. Everything was there, what the heart desires. • Lovely studio in Rottingdean. Spotlessly clean with lovely touches, such as different teas, a fresh loaf of bread and a stocked fridge. Mick is the perfect host and check in was smooth and easy. We will definitely be back next time we visit Brighton!

    Elise2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed one night at Mick's place, but wished we could have stayed longer! It is a beautiful, self-contained studio--a well-designed, private and tranquil space. The amenities were excellent, with a comfortable bed, a great shower and a well-stocked fridge for breakfast. The place was immaculate and, even though we visited on a dark and rainy day, the interior was light and airy. Mick is a great host, discreet and helpful at the same time. We highly recommend his place and would certainly love to come back.

  • This is a brilliant studio space. So modern and clean, includes everything you could need or think of appliance wise (iPhone charger, microwave, ironing board, hair dryer) and mick left extra ammenities such as bread butter jams milk orange juice and selection of teas to use which was such a nice touch. Very private space too which was great. 10 mins to centre of Brighton by car. 5 mins car drive to beach. Certainly would book again.

  • We booked this for Xmas for my in laws who are not very mobile and can't manage stairs easily (and wanted to avoid stepping on dogs, small children and the general mayhem of xmas at our house). Having everything in one place on the ground floor was exactly what they needed and being just around the corner from us made it perfect for them to drop in and out as they wished. The place was better than photos, spotless, lovely welcome pack of breakfast things and very friendly, easy to contact hosts. Very highly recommended. Thank you Mick.

  • Lovely self contained apartment in a great location.

Self contained bedroom (with sea views) and bathroom located in the historic village of Rottingdean. A leisurely 8 minute walk to the high street/beach.
The front bedroom and bathroom of a detached bungalow. The advertised rooms are self contained from the rear part of the bungalow. The guests will have sole use of the main front door and the property owners will use the rear entrance to access the rest of the property whilst there are guests staying. A locked door separates the two parts of the property. When describing the property on the main listing we struggled to find an accurate description. Another way of describing it would be ‘a self contained studio flat with no kitchen’. Or as per the description ‘hotel style room’ ie it has its own private access and everything you would find in a typical hotel room.
    A quiet residential area
  • Extremely clean, great communication and location. Had a brilant time.

  • Lovely location in quiet road in Rottingdean, close to Brighton. Cosy, modern and very stylish place, with a nice side view of the sea and sunsets. Recommended for peace and quiet .

    Sven2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here couldn’t of been better, we were visiting friends in saltdean and wanted somewhere close and out the hustle and bustle of Brighton. Couldn’t of asked for more, as soon as you walk out the door you can see the sea, there are regular buses to and from Brighton town (never waited more than 10 minutes) and the lovely town of rottingdean is within walking distance (recommend a roast at the plough inn!) Harvey had even left some croissants and jam for breakfast and 2 small bottles of Prosecco which was so kind and didn’t mind us arriving late after travelling on the Friday. We would definitely come again thanks for a lovely stay!

    Lauren2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Harvey and Korrine's home was everything we needed for a beach getaway in Brighton. The place was everything that we expected and more and was so close to public transport and the beach! We can't wait to go back!

    Patricia2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend stay in this beautiful apartment. It was sparkling clean and very modern. It was in the perfect location for exploring Rottingdean through to Brighton and especially because it was so close to the sea. The hosts gave us very helpful recommendations and tips for our trip and were very accommodating throughout the weekend, catering for our late arrival on the Friday evening and making sure we were comfortable, advising about heating etc to extending our departure time if we wanted it. The little welcome touches of Prosecco and croissants made the experience extra special. Harvey and Korrine were the perfect hosts.

  • I loved the chalet, absolutely everything I could have wished for; clean, private, warm and comfortable with all the home from home amenities. Love your sense of humour too, especially re the tortoise outside! Beautifully decorated and I do believe you have thought of everything. Should the need arise, Garden Chalet will be the first I look for to book again and I will confidently recommend to family too. Thank you.

  • Jen was lovely when we met her on check in, for the rest of the weekend we were left to it - apart from a greeting from their friendly dog! The room is fitted out really nicely, everything worked and it was all really clean. Really easy bus ride into Brighton, or a lovely long walk along the seafront (storm Ciara put a stop to our plans for that though!)

    Laura2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • It's lovely staying at Elaine's and would love to return to this wonderful listing! It's perfectly Rottingdean!

    Zoë2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine’s flat is spacious, comfortable, well equipped and well appointed. The weather was pleasant the first evening we stayed and we enjoyed sitting out on the roof terrace having a drink. (It rained the other two evenings!) After a walk along the Undercliff to Saltdean, it was nice to come back and relax in the lovely comfortable lounge. We had a wonderful meal with friends at the Bistro Gourmand, two doors away. The local bus service is excellent, with bus stops towards both Brighton and Eastbourne just up the road by the White Horse. Rottingdean is a very nice village with lots of quirky shops.

  • This flat is so wonderfully spacious, tidy yet complete with all you may need for staying in — including an ideal terrace for enjoyment (weather permitting of course). We enjoyed our stay here and the ease of access to grocers/stores, the Under Cliff walk, bus routes, and more!! Plus very handy to have a great local cafe so close, which showcases local artists’ work, too. Great location and lovely flat for a long weekend!

  • We have stayed in this Rottingdean flat twice now, its lovely and spacious, clean and right in the heart of a beautiful village. My daughter loved the two minute walk to the beach every evening to get ice cream.

  • Lauren’s home is absolutely perfect. It is beautiful and cosy and inviting. I felt totally relaxed and had a lovely stay. Lauren is an amazing host and communication was superb and all the little extra touches made all the difference. It is also in a great location for Brighton but retains the peaceful village life so is the best of both worlds

    Sarah2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren’s flat was absolutely beautiful, spotless and located in a cute little town just a short drive east of Brighton. It was a quiet enough street but was still really central with shops and cafes within short walking distance. The bed was really comfy & cosy. Wish we stayed a bit longer!

    Sarah2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren's place was lovely and in a gorgeous village near Brighton. It had some lovely touches such as sweets and mints and very tasteful Christmas decorations. It was beautifully clean and well decked out the bed was extremely comfortable and Lauren was on hand by text if we had any questions. My only issue was Lauren asked us to leave the apartment clean and tidy and while I would always respect any home I stay in and leave it as tidy as possible. I was surprised as Airbnb require a cleaning fee. However, I wouldn't let that put anyone off. It's a beautiful home in a lovely area. With local cafes an easy bus ride to Brighton and nearby parking. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you Lauren

    Lucy2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great property - stylish, clean and has everyone you could possibly need. Lauren is amazing, communicates efficiently and the thoughtful wine and chocolates on arrival was wonderful! We would 100% would recommend to anyone and will certainly be visiting again!

    Samuel-James2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Exceeded my expectations! This beautiful home is as exactly as pictured and Lauren’s hospitality and communication was excellent! Definitely recommend staying here!

    Nadisha M2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Really liked this booking. Great little flat in lovely Rottingdean. Everything as Lauren described. If you are staying in the area its a great choice. Great bus links into Brighton and along coast together with attractions of the local village.

    Bernard2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • It’s like stepping into a New York hotel in the heart of Rottingdean. Absolutely luxurious & relaxing.

    Angela2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren's place was absolutely beautiful. Very stylish and cosy, close to Tesco's and Costa, 5-10 mins to center of Brighton, sparkling clean, towels, blankets, milk, biscuits, apples, break, butter, jam etc. Honestly more than what we expected. Loved the place, highly recommend it. Lauren was very nice aswell even though we haven't had the chance to meet.

Due to popular demand with my single room I can now offer another Airbnb room - a delightful, first floor double room in my Edwardian house in the historic heart of Rottingdean. It is a newly refurbished, very peaceful room at the back of the house. There is a comfortable double bed, cupboard and drawer space. The room is tastefully decorated in a cottage style.. Tea & coffee making facilities are provided. Next door is a bathroom with a bath/shower & separate toilet.
Rottingdean is often described as the hidden gem of Brighton. It has a unique character to it and is unlike anywhere else in the city. It is the perfect place to stay as you can enjoy all the fantastic vibe of Brighton with it's shops and culture but you can also have the chilled vibe of a traditional old village. It dates back to the Saxons with a Norman church, a pond and village green at it's heart. There are many pretty old cottages and historic houses in the village. It was a popular place for artists, writers and public figures to live including Rudyard Kipling, the Pre-Raphelite artist Edward Burne Jones and the artist William Nicholson. There is a wonderful museum - The Grange with the most tranquil tea garden you can find. My house is right at the centre of village life on the High Stree so everything is close at hand. There are many coffee shops and cafes (breakfast at the Sea Spray on the seafront is a must). Rottingdean boasts 5 pubs serving local ales and providing entertainment on some nights. We also have 2 very well stocked supermarkets which are open until 10pm The beach is only 3 minutes from the front door so whether you fancy a bit of sunbathing on a hot summer's day or a brisk walk on a chilly Autumn day you don't have far to go.
  • Well suited for a short stay. Everything you need is within walking distance. Coffee and tea are available in the room. Brighton can be reached in 12-15 minutes by bus and a beautiful beach (stone) and beautiful cliffs in the area there too.

    Diana2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay. The room was clean, bright and comfortable. The house was lovely and Katherine was very nice. Quiet but accessible to Brighton. LGBT friendly

    Joshua2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Rottingdean is nice and cosy, me and my girlfriend had a nice welcoming and hospitality by Kate and her dog Lilly (peaceful, awesome and very well behaved dog). The location was more than fine as it is 5 minutes from the sea with all the shops and from the bus stop to reach Brighton. We'll be back there for sure!

    Simone2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • A little spot to disconnect from everything and everyone. Katherine offers a great place to stay. She is thoughtful, kind and very helpful. The room is as in the listing, sparking clean and with a very confortable bed. Would defined recommend and would definitely use again!

    Andrea2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Nice room, bright and clean in a nice neighborhood. Katherine and Lilly are very hospitable!

    Bérénice2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great welcoming, Katherine is so nice and her dog so cute ! The bedroom is isolated also for the bathroom. We had a great stay and we hope to come back again !

    Camille2019-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • I definitely recommend staying here for the host, the room and the location. Katherine is a great host who truly made us feel at home. We really loved the double room which was fresh and clean and quiet. Nice decor, good books and a lovely goody basket with wine and snacks made for a perfect "stay-in evening". Katherine’s house is in the centre of Rottingdean, a quintessentially English village. The Kipling gardens, cafes, the sea and the Downs all in walking distance. Brighton is just a short bus ride away so you can get the city buzz without having live smack in the middle of it.

    Stephen2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean, tidy and welcoming, Kath is an excellent host and I would recommend to anyone to stay with her. The only minor point of note is that parking can be difficult but this is the same irrespective of where you might stay in Rotting Dean and Brighton. The bus into Brighton comes frequently and the stop is less than 5 minutes walk from Kaths.

NO ROAD BETWEEN YOU AND THE SEA... relax in our quiet 2 bedroom 2nd floor flat, unwind and enjoy spectacular sea views. Park in our numbered space then gain easy beach access from the front door, swim, then stroll along the promenade or to the cosy village cafes, pubs and shops. Frequent Brighton buses - so no need to drive. The lounge and main bedroom have extensive sea views. Fall asleep listening to the waves! WiFi and UK SKY. Stay a week+ for 10% off . NB 2 flights of stairs & no lift.
You are just a few metres from the water! The sitting room and master bedroom face the sea directly and the balcony is great for watching seagulls, people and the occasional kite surfer. There is a double bed in the main bedroom and a single in the rear room, so the flat can sleep three adults comfortably. We have a dedicated car space, which makes coming and going easy. Swimming is best in the Summer but Christmas Day was once achieved too! The flat has everything that you need such as sheets, duvets, blankets, dishcloths, loo roll, soaps etc. We also leave a stock of regular items such as tea, coffee, herbs / spices, oils in the kitchen. You will need to bring your fresh food. There is a really good butcher and a local bakery (they even do picnic hampers if you ask!) in the village. A fishmongers has just opened and the local wine shop next to it is interesting. Plus a Tesco Metro and a Co-op / McColls for the basics. The nearest big supermarket is ASDA in the Brighton Marina (10 minutes away).
This is a quiet residential block. Built in the 60's its not a great joy from the outside, but once inside the front door everything changes. We hope you love it! Apart from walking up and down the beach which has some good cafes for restorative purposes, the village of Rottingdean has several good pubs, a greengrocer, butcher, post office, cashpoint and a good choice of restaurants (Thai, Indian, French, Chinese). It also has a deep history. Kipling lived here and there are interesting gardens and buildings to visit in the village and nearby.
  • Great host, lovely flat. Good attention to details. Comfortable stay.

    Ted2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the apartment for a few days during New Year with our 7 year old and 1 year old children. Very nice apartment, literally had everything we needed and more. Amazing sea views and lovely little village with pubs, restaurants and grocery shops. Lovely and peaceful listening to the waves crashing on the beach every day. The balcony was a bit cold in winter but I can imagine it would be lovely in spring/summer/autumn with the sun on there all day. Very good instructions, local information and check in info really easy to follow. Very swift response from Matthew the host and very organised with all the information we needed. Really comfy beds and bedding, hot shower, comfy sofas and the whole place was very clean and tidy. Apartment has lots of space for the kids stuff, beds etc and space to play and very safe. Nice to have some books, puzzles and games for the children to play with too. A real home from home. With spectacular views over a lovely little beach, with a good cafe. Would definitely stay again. Many thanks.

    Victoria2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great trip, the flat is immaculate, well-positioned and very quiet. The view from the living room and balcony is beautiful. Matthew was friendly, helpful and responded immediately. Book this place for a weekend by the sea!

    Keith2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely apartment right on the seafront, great place to relax. Well equipped kitchen and really comfy bed. Easy bus ride along the front into Brighton. Well worth a visit.

    Alison2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect apartment, perfect area and the most perfect views. Everything was beautiful with nice little personal touches

    Jerome2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is an unusual and interesting property, very well appointed and cosy, but with the unique selling point of the most amazing uninterrupted view of the sea. This can be seen from the living room, master bedroom and kitchen and it is hard to take your eyes off the ever changing scene. You can find everything you need for eating out or self catering a few steps away from the accommodation, but it is easy to get in Brighton too as regular buses run from the centre of Rottingdean. Lovely walks along the seafront on a wide level promenade. Highly recommended.

Our house, recently modernised has 3 beds and 2 bathrooms and is decorated to a high standard. Situated on the highest road in Saltdean we have amazing views over the Lido and the Channel. We are Sarah & Mike, and we moved here in 2016 to run a seaside B&B. We welcome visitors of any age or background so long as they are polite and tidy. Always keen to help with local info - our aim is to make your stay a happy one! PLEASE NOTE we do live on the premises. Also *PLEASE SEE CANCELLATION POLICY*.
Upstairs Bedroom: (Bedroom 2) -double bed -bedside tables & lights -fold-out desk -opening window with sea views -shelving unit with hanging space -freeview TV -full length mirror -kettle and drinks-making facilities -En-suite shower room with opening Velux window We are currently considering whether to let out bedroom 3 which is downstairs, but it is possible that 2 people could share the pull-out day bed for an extra charge. Bedroom 3 has a toilet immediately outside the door.
Saltdean is a residential village 4 miles from Brighton. Our road is 250 ft above sea level backing onto the South Downs National Park. There is a useful parade of shops nearby (less than 10 mins walk) featuring a Co-Op, Post Office, launderette, pharmacy and several takeaways. Also an authentic Italian restaurant serving the best pizzas we've tasted! ** NOTE: Steep hill back from shops! ** This is a quiet neighbourhood with very little traffic. At night in winter, all you hear is the wind and the occasional seagull.
  • Mike's house is in a neat suburban road on a hill overlooking Saltdean Lido and the bay. The house is bright and spacious, and immaculately clean and tidy. The room has a lovely sea-view and a good double bed, a hanging-space and plenty of drawers. The bathroom is en-suite with a good-sized shower cubicle, loo and stylish washbasin. Mike and his wife are friendly and pleasant, and made us welcome. We enjoyed our stay.

  • Our stay could not have been better. We had booked an extra night and it was no problem. The room is better than a room in a ''real b&b''. It's very clean, tidy, nicely decorated, the seperate bathroom is very handy, the sheets are fresh and very soft and the seaview is a great plus. It's also handy to have a secure parking spot. Michael and Sarah are great hosts and give very good tips. We would give them 6 out of 5 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Eline2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Michaels place was perfect. There is no difference between a ''real'' b&b and this room. It's very clean, the separate bathroom is great, the fresh and soft sheets feel amazing and the seaview is a really nice plus. It's also handy to have a secure parking spot. Michael and Sara are very friendly hosts. We give this place 6 out of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Eline2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Mike and Sarah were very friendly and gave us good advices for pub and breakfast locations. Check in and out procedures were easy and without problems. The place was very clean, well equipped and offered a great view over the city and to the sea. We would definately recommend them to others :-)

    Moritz2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Michael and Sarah's home is such a lovely place to stay, in terms of location, hospitality, cleanliness and value, and they are so welcoming and friendly..it's 5*. The bed is very comfortable, and the facilities in the bedroom & en suite are excellent (shower gels, toothpaste, kettle, teas, coffee, and use of fridge & kitchen downstairs if needed) Parking is no problem, as you can use the drive, or park on the street. I'd highly recommend staying here, and have already booked in advance! 😊

  • Sams place was perfect for my needs. It is a short drive to both Brighton marina and the Falmer campus. The local area is well and truly residential and peaceful. The annex itself is large enough for a couple; the open plan kitchen living area meant I could cook for myself and unwind in the evening. The shower is lovely and I could've stayed in there for ages. The place took a little while to heat up when I first arrived but once was warmed up stayed nice and toasty. Although there is a warning about potential noise from the seagulls I wasn't disturbed by any and slept well through the night.

  • Gracie greeted us. The house is spotless. The room is up 2 flights of stairs and was very warm in our arrival. We met the dog. Very friendly and lovable pup. My little girl just loved her. Location is around 10-12 mins drive from Brighton. Parking was an issue for me. There is a lot of cars parked on corners and on banks next to the road. Gracie let us use the kitchen for cereal, eggs and bread and hot drinks. We felt very welcomed. The heating didn't come on at night and it was very cold in the attic room and the room below but we snuggled under the covers to stay warm. ( the bed is amazing comfortable) Gracie said there may be a fault with the heating, and it will be dealt with.

Simple, clean, quirky, fun; LGBT-friendly; EVERYONE is welcome, irrespective of age, gender, race, colour, identity or creed! Saltdean is perfectly situated for easy access to Brighton, the Sussex Downs or the ferry in Newhaven. Brighton is exciting, but also quite noisy, so Saltdean is especially good for a quiet night's rest! With excellent public transport links, it is perfect for an Easter Break, the Brighton Fringe in May, or the world-famous Brighton Gay Pride in August.
Although some guests have been very kind in their reviews, we are not a 5* hotel or guest house, but a traditional Air BnB, which means that we share our private home with guests! :) Unfortunately, we no longer provide a breakfast service, but there are many excellent places in the area that serve breakfast. Please check-out our Guidebook for information about restaurants and places to visit in the area, and always feel free to message us if you have any questions. The Woodland Room is decorated in warm browns and oranges with a cute woodland animal theme and has an en-suite shower, toilet and basin. There is no television, but has a bookcase full of interesting books & magazines. The bed features a small double orthopaedic mattress for a comfortable night's rest. The room is situated upstairs, accessible by two easy, short flights of stairs. Smoking/vaping is permitted outside. There is FREE parking in our driveway and in the street - first come, first served! Please note: * Check-in is 3:00pm - 10:00pm only. * We never give keys out to guests, unless they are regulars who are staying for more than three days * Please book stays in your own name, using your own profile only - do not use someone else's profile! * The en-suites have showers only, no baths * Room is set up for ONE person only * Guests do not get access to our kitchen or laundry, sorry, but there are tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary flapjacks in each room! We don't own a microwave!
Saltdean is a friendly and extremely relaxed neighbourhood, and we're situated in an especially quiet street. We're close to the park and a 10 minute walk from Saltdean Beach, which is much quieter than Brighton Beach, but just as sunny. All of our neighbours are friendly and considerate - please treat them with respect and consideration too! There are Co-op supermarkets, post offices and chemists in either direction, as well as a few excellent restaurants, including V.I.P. (Italian / pizza), the tastiest Fish 'n Chips in the area, the Crocodile Cafe (for fresh, delicious, homemade Italian food), and many excellent coffee shops too. The nearby park is a well set up for children, with various play areas and is in close proximity to the newly-refurbished Lido swimming pool (open from May until September).
  • Received a warm welcome and superb accommodation

  • A real hidden gem, we absolutely loved the apartment. Great location for us we travelled into Brighton both days using the bus. We could not have asked for everything else all we needed was in the apartment. Very clean and tidy would love to stay again. Thank you Abi for all the personal touches. Look forward to a return visit xx

    Lisa2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for 3 nights with my family. Place was spot on. Parking was ok in the streets nearby. 2 min walk to beach. Loads of little shops and a number of places to eat. The place was really clean and tidy. Lounge was as shown on the pics. My daughter and her pal really loved it as well. The W suite was a great addition to the main bedroom. Nice touches like shower gel and towels all there. Kitchen was good size and had oven, good hob and microwave. All in all great.

    Nathan2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful apartment in a beautiful area. We had a very nice stay, perfect for a family with two kids. Functional kitchen and washing machine. Close to the beach!

    Karin2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Abi’s place so I could take part in the Brighton Marathom. From the moment we booked, Abi was attentive and forthcoming with loads of helpful, useful local information. When we arrived Abi had left the most thoughtful welcome gifts including protein powder and post marathon treats. Such a nice touch. The accommodation was perfect for myself, my husband and 2 children. Perfect location just outside Brighton with all amenities needed close by. Rottingdean is a really cute little village with a perfect, quiet beach less than 5 mins walk away. The flat was great. Clean, bright, really nicely decorated. We were impressed and couldn’t have asked for more. Key collection communication was clear and Abi remained in touch throughout. All in all a great experience. Highly recommend. ✅

    Jenny2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect!! This apartment is very clean, beautifully and imaginatively decorated, and extremely well equipped. We were most impressed by the thought Abi had given to what guests might need beyond tea, coffee and loo paper - there were herbs and spices, a tin of baked beans, Weetabix, herbal teas, shower gel, bottle of wine etc. The kitchen had plenty of pans, crockery and cutlery. The bed was comfortable , with good pillows and duvet.

Our home has a perfect location! Sea-views & only 5 minutes walk to the beach & the historic village of Rottingdean's quirky shops, restaurants & pubs. Just a short walk to the South Downs National Park & quick drive to the vibrant city of Brighton
Our home is situated on the cliffs overlooking the sea, the downs and the village of Rottingdean. The guest room is bright and clean, freshly decorated quiet and sunny. The newly decorated bathroom is fitted with a power shower over the bath. The bathroom will mostly be available for your sole use.
Nestling in the Sussex downs, Rottingdean is a typical Sussex village with village pond, village green and plenty of village pubs and tea shops. There are plenty of walks nearby on the downs or along the coast. The under-cliff walk is popular - it is a nice walk or cycle ride along to Brighton Marina or even into Brighton itself if you are feeling energetic! History buffs will enjoy the Church with its Burne-Jones stained glass windows. Rudyard Kipling lived in the village for a while and his garden is now a beautiful amenity for the village. The walled garden is stunningly planted and very peaceful and sheltered. Brighton is quite a contrast! Known for its trend-setting independent shops, restaurants, night clubs and vibrant art scene, Brighton has something for everyone. There are plenty of tourist attractions - the Royal Pavilion - the Prince Regent's summer palace, the Brighton i360 which is the world's most slender observational tower and of course the beach and the pier.
  • Very comfortable nights sleep in a beautiful house. Breakfast in stunning front room looking out over the sea. Recommended.

  • Sue and Nigel were excellent hosts and have a lovely home. The sea views from their conservatory are spectacular and can be enjoyed whilst eating breakfast. The house is within easy walking distance of the sea and Rottingdean's interesting and historic centre. There are plenty of decent places to eat in the town. If you're keen on walking, paths to the Downs and the coast are right on the doorstep.

  • First class location for visiting our family in Hove, Brighton. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Rottingdean and were made most welcome by Jackie, John and Sarah. We normally visit Brighton using our touring caravan as accommodation. This was a first time deviation from that routine and we were lucky to have stumbled across Sarah’s place. Her Mam and Dad are a lovely couple and nothing was a trouble to them during our stay. A place to remember if we decide to leave our caravan at home in the future. • We felt the description matched up very well to the reality, and we enjoyed our stay.

  • We stayed for 7 days, 2 kids and 3 adults. The house is spacious and comfortable even more than expected and had everything required to make our stay pleasant - amenities and information. The garden is amazing, and the location within Rottingdean is excellent. We will definitely consider the place for our next visit.

  • We had wonderful trip at this house. They even provided a booklet of restaurants and places of recommendation, which was helpful for visitors. The housekeeper was really nice to us and made sure the house is in good conditions. If you drive there, this would be a good place for you to stay.

Rottingdean is a lovely, welcoming village on the outskirts of the city of Brighton and Hove. Whilst it offers a more relaxed pace of life, it has plenty of things to see and do! Take a walk around the pretty village pond, learn the history of the village in The Grange museum, take in the stunning views across the landscape towards the sea from the windmill, or relax with an ice cream or fish and chips on the pebbled beaches. A day trip to Brighton, just 4 miles away, is also a must! If you feel energetic you can also walk/ run or hire bikes to cycle to the Marina and onto Brighton along the under-cliff path, taking in the wonderful sea air. Or take the many public footpaths and take a walk up onto the beautiful rolling hills of the South Downs. I would recommend visiting The Queen Vic pub on the high street for traditional home cooked pub food or Bistro Gourmand for fantastic french food. Make sure that you book up for both as they are very popular.
  • Loved Abi’s flat!! It is centrally ocated in the lovely village of Rottingdean, walking distance to the seafront, shops, and the Windmill which can be seen from the flat!! Abi was a most gracious host and made us feel right at home upon entering the flat with personal touches to welcome us . The place was very clean and well furnished. It was perfect!

  • This is my second stay at this gorgeous home. It was a beautiful stay and didn’t disappoint. It was lovely chatting with Sue about the local town, the home could not have been cleaner. We were able to check in earlier than expected and there was a lovey box of welcome chocolates waiting on arrival. Fab place to stay away from the business of Brighton!

  • Very enthusiastic landlord, personally received us to stay, and explained in detail the use of the house details, but also introduced the surrounding shopping, transportation and other conditions, very comprehensive. The two-bedroom, two-bedroom, two-bedroom and one-kitchen houses are very clean and tidy. When you walk in, you will feel happy. The layout of the room is very warm and everything is so beautiful! The location is also very good, the bus stop is at the door, and access is very convenient! Really very satisfied with the stay experience, will continue to choose this stay next time!

  • Wonderful! We would highly recommend Windmill View as a place to stay for anyone wanting to visit Brighton or the surrounding areas. The apartment was clean, very stylishly and comfortably furnished, and very well appointed with everything you could possibly need - eg our daughter cooked 2 meals whilst we were there and had every utensil and pan she required, plus more! Communication was excellent, and we were made feel very welcome, with extra personal touches such as tea, bikkies and milk, and a personal welcome message. Information about local tourist attractions was provided, also the local bus services etc. Location was great - grocery and fruit stores within 2 minutes walk. We hired bikes and cycled the few miles into Brighton and back along the undercliff path. We would love to stay there again!

  • Very clean tidy apartment it has everything you could possibly need. Not suitible for elderly quite a lot of stairs, but great for families. Local tesco at the bottom of the street very handy. Overall a great apartment and location.

The Blue Room is decorated in pastel blues and pin-up girls, has a TV / DVD player, and an en-suite shower, toilet and basin. The bed features a small double orthopaedic mattress for a comfortable night's rest. The room is situated upstairs, accessible by two easy, short flights of stairs. We have a HUGE selection of DVD's and Blu-rays which guests are welcome to watch - let us know if you like a particular genre. Smoking/vaping is permitted outside. There is parking in our driveway and in the street - first come, first served! We have another room listed on Air B 'n B as the 'Woodland Room' in Saltdean. Please note: * Check-in is between 3:00pm and 10:00pm only * We never give keys out to guests, unless they are regulars who are staying for more than three days * Please book stays in your own name, using your own profile only - do not use someone else's profile! * The en-suites have showers only, no baths * Room is set up for ONE person only * Guests do not get access to our kitchen or laundry, sorry, but there are tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary flapjacks in the room.
There are Co Op supermarkets, post offices and chemists in either direction, as well as a few excellent restaurants, including V.I.P.
  • Another great stay with a lovely warm and welcoming couple. Spotlessly clean and tidy and great access to Brighton and my work. Never disappoints when I’ve stayed here!

  • Had a lovely, cosy and welcoming overnight stay with Johan and Rachel in their beautiful home. I stayed in the ‘Blue Room’ and it was a pure delight. So cosy, warm, and incredibly quite that it was like a little place of paradise. I slept like a log in the super comfy bed, thoroughly enjoyed the bonus of an on-suite bathroom and felt fully relaxed by the later check out time available (12pm at the time of my stay). All in All this was the perfect stay in the Perfect place..... Thank you both (and your stunning cat). Xx

  • A wonderful find for staying in this area! Johan & Rachel were warm, welcoming and are exceptional hosts. Excellent communication before and during my stay (enjoyed the chats we had), but also respect your privacy if that's what you prefer. I stayed for 3 nights in the 'Blue Room' which was a very clean and comfortable room, while working locally and slept peacefully each night. Would certainly stay again if working in the area again or recommend others to try for themselves. Thank you Johan & Rachel, for an pleasant experience.

Twin ensuite room (shower/bath/toilet) in 16th century house in historic Rottingdean village right next to beach, local shops and bus stop directly along seafront to Brighton. Free Wi-fi. Village has 9 cafes, 5 pubs, 3 restaurants.
Our twin ensuite room is up on the first floor via a narrow winding staircase. It looks out both onto the high street and our garden at the back. The room has two single beds with bedside tables and lamps. The bathroom has a separate toilet and a shower over the bath. Bottles of water provided for first night. Bath and beach towels provided.
HISTORY OF ROTTINGDEAN (a smugglers’ village) Rottingdean is a village of currently 2,500 inhabitants with one of the oldest Cricket Clubs in the country. It was a farming community and the name is derived from a local Saxon family named Rotyng and as the village sat in a dene; hence the name Rotyngsdene (another theory is that the name originated from a Saxon Lord called Rota; hence Rota’s people in the Dene). The Green and pond has been the focus of village providing the only source of drinking water during Neolithic and Saxon times and flint tools and axes have been uncovered here. Up on the hill overlooking the village is a Neolithic long barrow. After the Battle of Hastings in 1066 William the Conquerer commissioned the Doomsday book which was a record of the value of his kingdom and Rottingdean (Rotingdene) is listed. For two hundred years from the mid–seventeenth century, the Rottingdean Gang of Smugglers brought in contraband cargo from landing sites nearby, using caves dug into the cliffs, which led to tunnels connecting the cellars of houses and pubs (Inns) under Rottingdean High Street and up to the Green. (heavy traffic on the High street prevents this tunnel being accessible now although the metal entrance doors can be seen on the undercliff walk next to the beach). The gang included the vicar Dr Thomas Hooker (there is a bust in St Margaret’s Church) who was a skilled horseman and acted as a lookout for the gang. Behind the Plough Inn in Whipping Post Lane is Whipping Post House, a listed building dating from the sixteenth century, once the home of Captain Dunk, village butcher by day and smuggler by night. The remoteness of the village next to the sea made Rottingdean a popular spot with smugglers and at one time Rottingdean’s windmill sails were used to signal that the coast was clear. You can still visit some of the smugglers’ favourite haunts such as The Black Horse Inn half-way on the high street reputed to have been the smugglers’ meeting place. These times were romanticized in Rudyard Kipling’s* A Smugglers’ Song - “Five and twenty ponies/Trotting through the dark/Brandy for the Parson/Baccy for the Clark.” A Customs House was established in the High Street to stop the smuggling and this is opposite our house. Our own house is believed to be from the seventeenth century and the rear wall of our garden is part of the original village wash house. A pier at Rottingdean provided the eastern destination for Magnus Volk’s ‘Daddy Long Legs seashore railway’, which ran for three miles. Built on 24ft high stilts so up to 150 passengers could be carried above the high tide but it suffered many disasters along the way, including the track being washed away by a storm a week after opening. The tracks can still be seen along shore from Rottingdean to the Pier at low tide. Magnus Volk is buried in the eleventh century St Wulfran’s church in nearby Ovingdean and Ovingdean Grange is owned by actor Steve Coogan. St Margaret’s Church is beside the pond and now mainly Norman although the original was Saxon). Burn marks from a fire in the fourteenth century are still visible inside from when the village was invaded by French pirates and local residents who took refuge in the tower were burnt alive. In the early twentieth century, a proposal was received from Forest Lawn Memorial Park, a private cemetery in Glendale, California wanting to buy the church, dismantle it stone by stone, ship it to the United States and rebuild it in the park. When the sale was refused, an exact replica was built instead. St Margarets church contains stained glass windows including seven designed by Burne-Jones and made by the Morris firm. Agnes married Sir Edward Poynter (became President of Royal Academy & director of Tate Gallery) and their son was Rudyard Kipling who wrote Jungle Book (poet, author and Nobel prize winner for literature). Kipling lived first in North End House and later The Elms which is adjacent to Kipling Gardens. Formerly within the grounds of The Elms, Kipling Gardens in Rottingdean village are open every day to the public and contain a walled rose garden, ornamental grasses, a chalkland wild area and a croquet lawn. Originally the Vicarage, The Grange now contains a Public Library and Art Gallery with permanent Museum of the history of Rottingdean and its famous residents and a garden café. Some of the famous people buried in the graveyard include Sir Edward Burne-Jones (Pre-Raphaelite artist and designer) and Stanley Baldwin (UK Prime Minister three times); Blues guitarist Gary Moore (lead singer of Irish band Thin Lizzy); Julie Cowell (mother of music mogul Simon Cowell) buried next to her husband Eric Cowell. Other residents include Lord Carson, the first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland; artist Sir William Nicholson; head of Reuters news agency Sir Roderick Jones and his wife the writer Enid Bagnold, famous for the book National Velvet. MGM studios bought the rights and chose the young English girl Elizabeth Taylor to play the lead role. Next to the church is Dean Court road and Tudor Close which are now private houses and apartments. It was once a hotel built using old timbers featuring carved Tudor roses and wood taken from Tudor warships in Portsmouth dockyard. In the 1930s many famous people visited the hotel and thus included Cary Grant, Bette Davis, Errol Flynn, Julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn. Wadington’s board game Cluedo was originally called ‘Murder at Tudor Close’ and mystery murder games were hosted played out by guests and local actors.
  • Jo is very happy to share any information with you. Very good at and like to communicate. She taught me a lot about living in Brighton.

  • Very pleasantly surprised for my first Airbnb booking. A good size room with a decent bathroom. (Very comfortable bed and a powerful shower.) We were much later than planned due to traffic problems and still arrived to a welcoming reception. Jo helped with directions and parking advice. The property is very near a few pubs, cafes and eateries. Also, just across the road is the beach which was a nice spot. The bus stop is nearby for the short journey into the centre of Brighton. So, a very nice place to stay and in a good position.

My place is an easy bus ride, walk or drive to Brighton . Newhaven Ferry Port is a 15 minute drive and Gatwick Airport about 40minutes. Rottingdean is a coastal village and has restaurants and pubs, art and culture, great views, and the south downs national park on the doorstep. You’ll love my place as its 2 minutes from the high street yet has an enclosed garden. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with small kids), and furry friends (pets).
My cottage was built in the 1790's and has super thick walls which make it very cosy in the winter and cool in the summer. We have a south facing garden, a very rare space so close to the bustly high street with its many shops, pubs and coffee shops. The living room is small but comfortable in a cosy type of way with an open fire. The bathroom is on the ground floor and there are narrow steep steps to the first floor which may make it difficult to navigate for people with mobility issues.
The main attractions in the village are Mollys Beachfront Cafe, The Grange Museum, Gallery & Tea Garden, Kipling's Garden, Rottingdean Windmill, St. Margaret's Church with its beautiful stained glass windows, the traditional old inns which were once frequented by smugglers in the area and the undercliff walk to Saltdean to the east and Brighton Marina to the west.
  • Good location.Comfy cottage. Clean and easy to maintain while enjoying your stay.

  • Lucy was an amazing host and the cottage was exactly as shown, it was so breathtakingly perfect and the ideal cottage. The cottage is situated around 5 step off the main road and a 3 min walk to the under cliff sea walk. I have my two dogs who loved it, in fact I had to carry my little on out and she was refusing to leave. Cannot recommend both Lucy, the Cottage and location highly enough. The village is stunning and has everything you need to never leave (in fact I spent a fortune at the local antique shop). And Brighton is about a 7 minute cab ride in. But you feel right in the heart of an old community with every mod con you need. I cooked Christmas lunch for 7 people with no problems and to top it off we had our lunch in an outdoor dining room gazebo with lights and heaters. Really was the cherry on top.

  • A very pleasant stay in the cottage. Garden is definitely dog proof, which is a good bonus. Rottingdean village very close by and very short walk to the beach, which was enjoyed by our dog. Good and very friendly pub, the plough around the corner and some very nice coffee shops too. All in all an enjoyable stay.

  • A lovely little cottage with enough amenities. The location is perfect. The space is lovely to be in and of it was sunny the garden would have been ideal. I will definitely be returning.

  • This cottage is tiny but offers everything you could want and is perfectly located. The outside garden room is just perfect and gives the extra space if you need it. It was spotlessly clean and we loved it all. Lucy was a great host and if you want a little cottage in the heart of the village I bet you can't find one better!! Highly recommended - thank you for a lovely stay.

  • A lovely peaceful picturesque cottage with superb sunny private garden. The garden room is great for evenings or wet days. The location is perfect for walking into the town, and catching a bus to Brighton. Sleeps four comfortably and the cosy sitting room felt very homely. The four of us and our dog all enjoyed the stay and would definitely return.

  • Me and my family enjoyed the stay at Joy's house immensely. The place feels cosy and warm and was equipped with everything you could ask for (shout out to the amazing stove, it was great fun cooking on it). The village of Rottingdean is charming and you can walk to the sea very easily. I can highly recommend this house.

  • Lovely place in a nice small town next to Brighton....would recommend the Ploughing Inn to eat and take the bus in to Brighton to avoid parking!

    Ray2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • This was a real treat. The house overlooks the white cliffs of Rottingdean. Ample buses pass in front of the house, and you're a quick hop to Brighton, where there's a ton to see and do. Sussex is gorgeous, and between the buses, trains, bikes, and Uber it's easy to get around without a car.

  • This is a really lovely, clean house in a great location. The village and surrounding countryside are very interesting and attractive. And, of course, it is wonderful to be by the sea and very near Brighton! The buses run very frequently and Tesco Express is very near.

  • The house itself was amazing. It was very tastefully decorated and designed. The layout of the living room made full use of the stunning views of the sea. We found ourselves just sat in front of the window watching the sea. The bedrooms were lovely and the memory foam mattresses were a nice touch. The location of the house is one of the true selling points. The breathtaking views of the sea we're outstanding. The House is situated within walking distance from a bus stop with very frequent buses into Brighton. Communication with Joy and Ruth was very easy. Both were available and courteous when we needed them. All round a fantastic experience and we will definitely be looking to stay here again.

  • Located about 20 mins by bus from Brighton, with bus stop right outside of the house, house was well equipped, reasonably spacious and very clean. Stunning views over the ocean with quite busy main road outside the front of the house.
