Places to stay in Royston
Large spacious barn, beautifully converted into a one bedroom annexe. Spread across two levels with separate double bedroom, bathroom, living room and open plan kitchen diner. Detached property in a lovely village. Centrally located close to the shops, pubs, Science park and The Sheene Mill. Ideal for weddings or working professionals.
Unique, detached, self contained, picturesque property, with open plan feel in fantastic Cambridgshire village with plenty going on including pubs, shops, restaurant, Barbour/hair dressers, butchers, post office, gym/pool and Melbourn Science Park. Ideal for working professionals or an amazing holiday home. Also lovely village pub serving good food all day and property has a complete sky package with all channels including movies and sports and fast wifi.
Quiet and historical local area with friendly locals and many amenities. Including a train station 10 minutes walk away with a direct line to London and Cambridge in no time at all.
  • After a cancelled holiday in Rome, we desperately needed a getaway. This little gem in Melbourn was fairly close to the airport hotel we were staying at, so we thought we'd give it a go. Needless to say, we instantly fell in love with the style, the cleanliness and comfortability of the barn. Oh, and the chickens too. Kieran was super helpful and gave us all the info we needed, and we got there with no problem at all. With a pub less than one minute away, a Co-op around the corner, and a wildlife park in a neighbouring village, there was plenty to keep us busy during our stay. Will definitely be back soon to see the chickens!

  • Kierans place is beautiful, lovely scenery with chickens outside laying fresh eggs that you can help yourself to. Place looks better than the photos inside, really cosy and great amenities. Would definitely come again if I'm ever in the area.

  • We loved staying here, the place is great and Kieran was really helpful.

    Fran2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a charming little place to stay. Absolutely loved it. Great location. We walked our dogs locally and then hopped on a train into Cambridge for a couple of drinks before returning to cook a meal and have a cosy night in. Cooking in the large kitchen/diner is a delight. Feels rustic and homely. The friendly hens had laid and we each had one of their eggs for breakfast. Was a really nice touch. Would thoroughly recommend this place to couples looking for a little hideaway for a romantic break.

  • Well appointed, characterful accommodation. Very private and peaceful.

  • Fantastic little spot, cozy and warm.

    Devran2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wow what a lovely place to stay! We stayed from Saturday to Monday, everything was perfect! The barn is so cosy and it’s a great touch that sky TV is included and the movies as the weather was awful so we stayed in all day watching movies! It has everything you would need, cutlery, pots, pans, towels, toilet roll! It is in a perfect location with a little coop down the road should you need anything whilst you are there! We drove into Cambridge Sunday night for dinner which about 20/30 minutes so would be good if you wanted a day out in Cambridge! I will definitely recommend this stay to everyone and will be returning!

  • Dawn's flat is stylish, modern and spotlessly clean - it's located between Cambridge and Stevenage and was ideal for my trip. My short stay was very comfortable and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Dawn's place in the future.

    John2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Dawn’s place was ideal for my work trip. A fresh, bright, modern place. Probably the most spotless place I’ve ever stayed in! Super warm on a freezing nice. Very comfortable bed - slept like a baby. Shower was a dream. Bread, milk, cereal, tea and coffee available. Highly recommended. I wanted to stay a second night and explore Cambridge more but with storm Dennis threatening I erred on the side of caution.

We are 100% open for guests during this difficult time with the Coronavirus. The cottage is thoroughly cleaned between guests with products designed to kill virus. Why not have a quiet break or use the cottage as a base while visiting locally. The house is full of charm & character, with good sized rooms [albeit wonky & low ceilings!], modern kitchen & a private secluded garden. There are food takeaways & home delivery options & great chip shop 150 m away. Key safe entry to avoid meet/greets.
There are two good sized double rooms and a cosy twin room. The thatch is new making the house very quiet and snug. There are beams throughout, uneven floors and low ceilings in places, all adding to the authentic character of what was the cobblers home and workshop. There is a twin bedroom, bathroom and a separate toilet with sink on the ground floor for anyone who cannot manage the stairs.
The house is on a quiet lane lined with lovely gardens and friendly neighbours. We have 7 neighbours, all really nice people, we ask guests to be respectful and not to make too much noise as the evenings roll on or too early in the morning! We do not live next door (not sure why people assume this!) but we are only 800 metres away so can be there to help with anything you need.
  • We stay regularly at Tim's cottage when working at IWM Duxford. It is a charming cottage with handy local pubs and shops. Great for work or a holiday.

    Jon2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place offers utter tranquility and comfort. A real place to relax and find peace. Perfect location for exploring places like Imperial War Museum at Duxford, Wimpole Hall, Cambridge and the countryside.

    Claire2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is lovely, full of character and just perfect for our weekend getaway. Many thanks to Tim for the warm greeting and all the great local tips.

    Jen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place and very accommodating host. I would definitely love to visit again.

    Ewan2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Tim was a fantastic host from booking through to the end of our trip! The cottage is beautiful, quirky and brilliantly located - Tim gave us some local tips for what to do and showed us around to ensure we were settled. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay - Thank you!

    Sinéad2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect hosts and a lovely home, I have not a bad word to say. No parking is not an issue at all, free parking less than a minute or two away.

    Jeevan2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage, perfect for a weekend getaway. Easy to access from the train station. Thoughtful touches like electric blankets and a fabulous selection of cereals! It’s super cosy but with lots of space. Tim was super fast at responding to any messages and check in was simple. Definitely recommend

    Sunila2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A warm and comfortable cottage...just watch your head of you're over middling height! A convenient location for village life and trips to nearby Cambridge. Tim is a great host and explained the quirks of the cottage very clearly at the start of our stay.

  • A perfect place to stay for countryside lovers. Really comfortable accommodation, clean and relaxed, with fabulous walks on the doorstep. Tory is a great host - her comms were so helpful and she was most welcoming. A very dog-friendly place too. We'd certainly go back. Thank you Tory!

    Elizabeth2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sadly it was really windy and the fire would blow out after about 5 mins ( probably something to do with our fire skills) but that’s nothing to do with the hosts! The apartment was great! Wish we’d stayed longer! Lesson for next time is to get fire skills

    Jordan2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect accommodation for a wedding nearby. Great host and lovely place to stay

    David2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Torys place is great. Very clean and lovely and cosy. The real fire was delightful

    Daniel2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Tory was an impeccable host helping us with everything we needed, in particular a small hot water problem one evening. She was very gracious and made sure that we had everything we needed for our stay. The barn was beautiful, warm and cozy and the perfect place to finish a long day out. We couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you Tory! I am sure we will be back!

    Samantha2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Tory's place is lovely - a short drive from Wimpole Hall and not too far from Cambridge city centre, we had a great long weekend. We tried the pub recommended which was excellent and much enjoyed the fresh orange juice, bread and jam that Tory left for us! A great stay!

    Lucy2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay. Lovely self contained barn. We made the most of the log fire. Would definitely stay again.

Clopton Courtyard is set in the midst of the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside. The six barns have been built with an eco conscience, with timber frame structures and recycled building materials. They are also fuelled by a biomass boiler using renewable energy (which keeps the underfloor heating toasty warm). Each main barn has its own unique name, character and style, with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and an open plan living area and kitchen. Matilda Studio offers open plan living and sleeping, while The Sheringham Hut provides a contemporary glamping space. There is also plenty of outdoor space in which to venture and relax, with lovely undisturbed views of the open countryside. You can sit and watch the horses in the livery next door or read a book in the sun trap courtyard. With Cambridge only 12 miles away (15-20 minute drive), it is easy access into the centre by car for those wanting to explore this historic city, but looking for a quiet and peaceful holiday or work environment. There is also plenty to do locally, with Burwash Manor and Wimpole Hall close by, along with lots of tasty gastro pubs. Clopton Courtyard is fully equipped for those looking for self catering accommodation but who want a little bit of extra luxury and peace. What makes this place special is the unique nature of the interiors, which have been designed to provide premium accommodation in a rural setting. For more information, please get in touch and we'll be happy to help. We look forward to welcoming you to Clopton Courtyard and hope you like the barns as much as we do.
The property is very rural, so it is lovely and quiet. Clopton Courtyard is a 10 minute drive from Royston, which has a large grocery store. The home is also only a 20 minute drive from the historical centre of Cambridge.
  • Amazing barn with lots of character. The hot tub and open fire area were beautiful in the evening. Great value for money and would definitely recommend.

    James2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had the best few days staying at Clopton Courtyard!! The barn was amazing and we enjoyed the hot tub!! Cathy and her husband always responded quickly to all of our messages. I have recommended this place already to many friends!!

  • Lovely stay here, the outdoor space is exceptionally amazing and id definitely love to return in the summer as it’s the perfect peaceful setting! Interior is also beautiful. Thanks for having us would definitely recommend!

    Jessica2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our short stay. It was perfectly located for the City and other local attractions. The barn was warm, well-presented and really well equipped. The free WiFi and parking made our lives easier and the hot tub was an enticing bonus, although we didn't brave it in the mid-January winds! Overall my husband and I and our two boys really enjoyed ourselves and we'd love to stay again.

    Sinead2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful 3 days here! Thoroughly enjoyed the available hot tub and fire pit, the Lily barn was a very clean and tidy accommodation. Will definitely be visiting again as it was a pleasant experience!

    Amber2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect stay in a quiet location. Easy to find (driving in the dark on country roads and still found it no issue!) A little hiccup on check-in but was quickly solved. Powerful shower, lovely communal area with plenty of supplies for the fire pit and hot tub, overall a really nice stay and would definitely visit again!

Located just off the M11 ideal for Cambridge, Duxford Air Museum and Saffron Walden Great for cyclists, walkers & anyone working in Cambridge, we are close to Royston/Audley End (9 miles) stations which have fast trains into London Kings Cross & Liverpool Street respectively but you will need a car to access the village The room has a comfortable double bed, wardrobe, Roberts radio, Nespresso machine & kettle, Hairdryer, straighteners and toiletries & a selection of books. IG sleeepy_hollow
There are couple of good pubs in the village within walking distance and Royston has a number of good takeaway options - we can also give you some recommendations for pubs in the surrounding villages and Cambridge We are lucky to have 1 Michelin starred restaurant in Cambridge for those looking for fine dining: Midsomer House run by Daniel Clifford There is a lively food truck scene in Cambridge. Great options outside Stir Coffee at the weekend and the best cup of coffee from Espresso Library. Best gelato from Jacks gelato or make a special trip to Saffron Walden for Hill Street chocolatiers who make the very finest ice-creams Nearer Home Pizza by Bonne Fire Box from their Airstream at Langley Green outside the Bull pub on a Friday evening which can be pre-ordered via phone On the domestic front we have two cats, Jasper & Pandora who are mainly shy and will stay out of your way. Jasper is more adventurous and will take a warm lap where it is offered but Pandora is a ninja and rarely seen.
Our village is sleepy with a duck pond and pub which has a great reputation for food. There is a post office and food store in the next village (5 minutes drive) and Royston is a 7 mile drive where you can find a leisure centre, library, local weekend market, library, Wine bar and a number of local eateries If you are staying here you will need a car to get around as the local bus service is very limited but train services to London Kings Cross/Liverpool Street, Cambridge and Kings Lynn are frequent. We are 30 minutes from Stansted Airport and where possible can drop you there for an agreed fee when timings work if you don’t want to park there
  • Lovely room in a great location overlooking gorgeous countryside. Claire and Lee are wonderful hosts and I look forward to staying again soon :-)

    David2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet residence in the middle of the countryside quite near Cambridge. The hosts, Claire and Lee are a very welcoming couple. The decor is aesthetically pleasing, lovely pastel colours with special added touches that reflect love: hearts, flowers, stones, etc. Just to our taste! Breakfast was outstanding equivalent to a 5 * hotel, car parking, free wifi, etc, everything a traveller needs. And fantastic value for the money! We’d love to return. Thank you so much!

  • Absolutely loved my stay. Such a beautiful place. Will definitely be booking again

    Ella2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely setting and ideally located for Cambridge and the surrounding villages. We stayed in Amba cottage, it had everything we needed. The weather put us off using the hot tub but Amba has a lovely, deep bath in the bedroom which made up for it! Clean, well equipped and a great location. (The Queen Adelaide pub in Croydon is well worth a visit if you don't fancy cooking!)

    Claire2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully laid out set of barns around a circular courtyard. The converted, spacious barn we were in was awesome: with a fabulous free-standing bath and luxury shower, a four poster bed and underfloor heating. Everything felt luxurious: the butler's sink, the comfortable sofa, the soft-closing kitchen units. We didn't have time to use the hot tub but had a quick look and, again, it was all beautifully laid out/organised. It's very convenient for Addenbrookes and Cambridge city centre.

    Billie2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay here. We stayed in the Amba barn which had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend away. The communal spaces are even lovelier, and there were always loads of wood for the wood-fired hot tub. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone considering a staycation here in the UK. It's got a few walking routes nearby and is only a 20-minute drive into Cambridge as well. Even though all the other barns were fully booked, we rarely saw anyone else and pretty much had the hot tub to ourselves. It was the perfect weekend.

    Rak2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully renovated barns; just be aware that they are isolated and there are no footpaths/hiking routes etc from the door. We had a fantastic time here with our 1 year old daughter, who particularly loved seeing the horses in the livery next door. The interior design is very impressive and the living space is immaculately clean. Stunning bathroom with huge roll top bath and walk-in rain shower. Thank you for a brilliant stay!

  • Me and my boyfriend were so excited about booking this trip; the place looked amazing in pictures and it definitely lived up to these in person. We thought there was outstanding attention to detail in the stylish bungalows, and furthermore supported by great communication from Cathy with check in and finding the place. This has been our favourite Airbnb we have ever stayed in and we definitely want to come back- the wood burning hot tub was amazing as well.

  • What an absolutely beautiful retreat, exceeding our expectations by miles! The lovely hosts provided amazing hospitality and were always on hand for an inquires we had. Getting around without a car can be a bit pricey but the cab services around Royston are VERY familiar with the courtyard as it’s the most popular in the area! Will definitely book again in the future.

  • The annexe is a lovely, warm and inviting space, set in a beautiful location. The kitchen is well equipped and we comfortably cooked a couple of dinners. The area is very quiet and we enjoyed peaceful nights - the cozy bed also helped. If you're interested in country walks, there is a number to be had and Rebecca has kindly left plenty of helpful information. We had a very relaxing stay and would gladly recommend this to everyone.

My place is close to Cambridge (5 miles from the city centre). The Hornet's Nest, at Jays Cottage, is the perfect accommodation for anyone visiting or working in Cambridge or it's southern villages.. You’ll love my place because of it's location and it's self-contained as well as beautifully and freshly decorated. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. Please note the hot tub depicted in the one of the pictures is not available to guests.

  • A great space, really close to Cambridge, bus stop literally right outside if you wanted to use public transport. In a very quiet village so a totally undisturbed nights sleep. Very comfortable with a great kitchenette that is perfect for prepping a simple breakfast (cereal / bread / coffee / tea / juice etc were all supplied). I would recommend.

The Bakehouse is a totally self contained, newly renovated characterful detached annex to the left of our house. It is adjacent to "The Cob" Airbnb. Not shared with anyone. Situated in a quiet position overlooking historic Thriplow's village green. Just a minute's walk and you reach the award winning community run gastro pub or well stocked village shop. Only 8 miles from the city of Cambridge, so perfect for anyone visiting or working in Cambridge or the surrounding area.
We have renovated The Bakehouse with loving care and attention to detail and to the highest possible standard - specifically with Airbnb in mind. It is characterful and historic (within the kitchen is the site of the original baker’s oven!). The accommodation includes; a bedroom (with King size bed) and Roberts radio; a sitting room (with sofa, table/chairs and wall mounted Smart TV); a separate kitchen (with built in oven & hob, microwave, fridge, washer-dryer, Nespresso coffee machine); and a bathroom (with large walk in shower, basin and toilet).
Thriplow is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 and is laid out as a loose figure-of-eight of lanes with a lattice of footpaths and green fields between. While the oldest dated cottage is 1687, there is much that is older and deep seated in the past too. The footpaths take you through fields, woods and orchid meadows; in spring, the whole village is awash with daffodils. Indeed Thriplow is famous for its annual Daffodil Weekend and Country Fair: it’s a village fair that attracts up to 10,000 visitors for the weekend who come to enjoy a range of rural attractions, stalls and village hospitality and is reported as being one of the best loved charity events in Cambridgeshire! The village is an active and thriving community with many village groups, interests and activities, including a cricket club where you can watch cricket during the summer. Our pub (the award-winning The Green Man) is just a 2 minute walk from The Bakehouse, across The Green. It is a community owned pub that is run by Chris and Rebecca and they’ve built up an amazing reputation in the local area for offering both fresh, seasonal food and Tapas too. If you’d like to eat there during your stay we recommend you book. Thriplow also has a community run well-stocked Village Shop, where you can drop in for a coffee and perhaps fresh baked croissants or pastries too.

    Monica2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A modern and comfortable apartment located within a wonderful town. The place is a spacious 1 bed and 1 bath apartment. There was more than enough space to accommodate two for our stay. The bedroom is well-laid out with a very comfortable bed, clean linens and clean towels provided. There were also some amenities provided within the bathroom inc. shower gel, shampoo and hand wash as well as tea/coffee kits within the kitchen. Check-in was simple and straightforward, as there was a lockbox all the information we required for our stay was provided by Jess prior to check-in. Communication with host was great, as they were always on hand to answer any questions/queries. There was also access to Wifi which was quick and a Smart TV at the apartment which could stream content from YouTube/Netflix or FreeView channels. Getting around was straight forward the apartment is in an ideal location a 5 min drive from the shops/supermarkets like Tesco Express, Aldi, McColl’s etc. and roughly 7-10 mins into the town centre. The nearest station is a 7 min walk away from the apartment. Overall, I would highly recommend this apartment for your stay in Royston you will not be disappointed.

  • You will find the accommodation absolutely immaculate, you have everything you’ll ever need. You’ll find the hosts very hospitable people who care very much about what they offer in their beautiful home. I arrived after six pm as planned, was shown my sparklingly clean room & own equally sparking facilities. I was given a key, which I used for a pre-planned trip which helped me lots to collect a bike for a young girl at home. Check out was as easy as locking the door on my way out & popping the key through the letterbox for safe keeping. I was very much impressed with everything on offer- my best staycation by a long shot 👍❤️

Although this listing is for 2 people, we can sleep 24+; so please get in touch if you're looking for a peaceful country pad at which to relax, work or celebrate. Although our barns are rural, they are only a 20 minute drive from historic Cambridge, so provide a great base from which to explore this great city.

The six barns have been built with an eco conscience, with timber frame structures and recycled building materials. They are also fuelled by a biomass boiler using renewable energy (which keeps the underfloor heating toasty warm). Each main barn has its own unique name, character and style, with 2 bedooms, 1 bathroom and an open plan living area and kitchen. Whether a bath in the bedroom, beautiful sliding barn doors, or a wet room, there is something to suit everyones' tastes and requirements. For more information, please get in touch and we'll be happy to help. We look forward to welcoming you to Clopton Courtyard and hope you like the barns as much as we do. N.B. Please note that our hot tub and fire pit will be closed during this time, and we recommend that guests avoid communal areas as much as possible and to keep a safe distance from other people staying. We are only taking new bookings from guests who meet the following criteria 'Where people live in these as interim abodes whilst their primary residence is unavailable they may continue to do so. Key workers can continue to stay in hotels or similar where required'. - taken from government guidelines re commercial accommodation.
We are very rural so it is lovely and quiet. A car is advisable or taxis will also pick up. Clopton Courtyard is 10 minutes from Royston, which has a large Tesco for all your shopping needs. If you prefer something a bit more special than Burwash Manor has a lovely farm shop and is around 10 minutes by car. Cambridge of course is a must see city and there is plenty to do there. Please contact us for more information.

  • With beautiful views over the countryside (from the common outside seating) this nicely decorated cabin with great modern bathroom facilities has everything you need to relax. I enjoyed sitting in the covered area by the hottub, and enjoyed the wood-fired hottub too (although I didn't give it quite long enough to heat up fully).

We are located down a made up farm track, with lots of lovely walks around. No need to get in the car, just walk straight out the door and you are surrounded by fields. There are a couple of good pubs around, one of which is in walking distance. We have a local shop and local park.
  • The Potting Shed is a great place to stay close to the peaceful Barrington village. A 15 minute walk to the bus stop, which takes you to Cambridge if you want to enjoy the city life. Just beside the bus stop you can enjoy the wonderful, very old and classic Royal Oak pub. They serve both great food and ale. If you travel by car, you are only a few minutes away from several train stops, which will take you to Cambridge or London. The Potting Shed itself is a beautiful spot. The rooms in the house are of good size, including two bathrooms. The Potting Shed was also very clean. We did not get to meet the host, but she was very helpful when we corresponded on SMS.

  • Had a lovely one night stay at the Potting Shed! Great scenic views, good location and distance from Cambridge. The photos don’t do enough justice in portraying how lovely the barn is as well as the special homey touches! Kitchen was great too with ample utensils/pans/plates for cooking

    Chloe2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Ann-Maries potting shed is absolutely lovely. In a very remote and peaceful part of Cambridgeshire it is genuinly the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in. With modern equipement for making breakfast/dinner it is a great place to stay. We were there for two nights and genuinly didnt want to leave - we are 100% coming back - Also loved the personal touch of porridge and snacks on arrival- 10/10 stay.

  • Another comfortable stay at this lovely property.

    Jason2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a fab place the photos don't do it justice. Everything we needed and more in beautiful surroundings. Had a lovely lunch at The Royal Oak only minutes away. Plan to visit again.

The Garden Room is a separate annexe in the grounds of our listed thatched cottage in Great Chishill. There is parking, private garden and hot tub. The accommodation comprises a large bedroom/sitting room with a Super King size bed, double sofa bed, dining table, and a large bathroom. Guests have exclusive use of the totally private garden and patio with table and chairs and HOT TUB. There is very little light pollution so star gazing from the hot tub is a treat!
Great Chishill is a small picturesque village on a hill near Cambridge and Royston. There are lots of lovely pubs to choose from in the area, 2km from a local shop. Lovely walks and bike rides using footpaths and quiet country lanes. The village is the highest point in Cambridgeshire and has a very active local community. It has a post mill which is currently being renovated and a 13th century church. Duxford Imperial War Museum is within a 10 min drive. Other attractions within a short distance include an RSPB reserve, National Trust properties (Wimpole Hall, Anglesey Abbey), English Heritage Audley End House and of course the University City of Cambridge. Stansted and Luton Airports are within 45 minute drive.

Was lovely and clean and exactly what the pictures showed and Susanne was lovely and replied very quickly. Especially enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub at night and during the day. Would definitely recommend.

Being our first time using Air BnB we feel lucky this was our first pick. We had a wonderful weekend, a shame it went so fast. We will definitely be back and will recommend to friends and family! 10/10!!

  • Carolines place is really homely and at the same time nicely appointed - Kitchen had everything to make evening meals and hot breakfast. Spacious fridge! The shower has to be mentioned because its like mine at home, very powerful- and she provided a nice starting hamper so if you cannot shop before you arrive you have for tea, coffee toast fruit. ( Butter, jams & fruit 😀) Caroline was there to welcome me and show me around. Highly recommended.

Ravello Rose is a fabulous Grade 2 Listed thatched cottage in the historic village of Barley, close to Cambridge and Duxford. We’re situated in a peaceful lane about ten minutes walk from the village centre. The property has its own front door and comprises an entrance porch, a well equipped kitchenette, modern shower and toilet, large lounge diner with inglenook fireplace and wood stove, two cottage bedrooms both with double beds. There is also parking for a single car on our drive.
We're not sure of the exact age of the property but we have documents dating back to 1650. The unusual cottage structure is made of 'cob', which is mostly chalk and which will have been excavated close by. The main roof is water reed topped with a long straw ridge. Guests should be aware that some of the spaces inside the cottage, particularly the doorways upstairs, are quite low. Remember to duck when you get up in the morning!
Barley is an ancient village, listed in the Doomsday book of 1086, and perched on one of the last hills in the Chilterns. If you're interested in history there's lots more information on the village website and we have some books in the lounge. A little further down Smith End lane you'll find what is reputed to be the oldest house in Hertfordshire dating back to the 1300's and opposite the church is The Town House, reputed to be the oldest village hall in England. Unlike most other local villages Barley is fortunate to have a host of amenities including two pubs with food, a shop with Post Office, a village hall, a church, a school and its own taxi service, details of which are all in our welcome pack.
  • Richard is the perfect host Lovely location within walking distance from 2 pubs where you can eat The wood burners at the end of a day out is just perfect My 7 year old loved meeting the chickens & we loved eating the fresh eggs

    Rebecca2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was definitely one of my best bnb experiences. Richard was such a lovely host, the house and surrounding areas were beautiful also, English countryside at its best. We loved the history behind the house, which Richard told us was built in the 1650s and also the modern touches. The house had all the amenities needed to set us up for long county walks and a warm log burner and good kitchen facilities for when we returned. The nice little touches such as fresh eggs, board games and Amazon fire stick made our stay even more comfortable. There are 2 great pubs in short walking distance and a shop where you can get the essentials. Richard provided the perfect blend of a warm kind host and allowing privacy during the stay. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone!

A fully equipped studio flat with some quirky features. Spacious kitchen/living room area to relax and self-cater. Mezzanine bedroom sleeps 1-2. Situated in small rural village just outside Cambridge, walking distance to transport links.
The annexe is a studio flat with bedroom on mezzanine floor. The living area has very high ceilings and therefore spacious and airy. The mezzanine floor has sloping ceilings which may not suit everyone, but the velux windows keep the bedroom space light and airy. With a double bed 1 person will sleep comfortably, and 2 will be cosy! The bathroom, with its unconventional and haphazard tiling makes it rather unusual and quirky - but the shower is hot and powerful! The kitchen is well equipped with cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer. A washing machine is also available for longer stays. Unfortunately the TV picks up a very bad signal for TV, but it is kitted out with a chrome cast and a fire stick to stream your own content, or connect to the main on demand services such as iPlayer/4od. Plenty of street parking available for cars. Road is a quiet cul de sac.
Foxton is a small, friendly and safe village. There is a small but well stocked village shop and a pub only a few minutes walk. Behind the house is the village recreation ground with playground, and overlooking the church. Local attractions include Duxford air museum (8 mins), Shepreth wildlife Park (5 mins), Wimpole Hall (10 mins) as well as everything Cambridge has to offer. Also very well situated for Royston and Melbourn Science Park. In order to explore the local area we do recommend you have a car.
  • The Annexe is located a short walk to the train station, a shop, and a pub. Therefore if you are like me - without a car - you needn’t worry. This was the perfect place to stay while I started my new job in Cambridge and looked for a place to live permanently. The annexe is clean, warm, and cozy. It has all the amenities you need. Staying here felt more like a vacation than a place to live while relocating! I highly recommend.

  • A fantastic space in a great location close enough to Cambridge for the job I was doing . Caroline was the perfect host

    Graham2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline was a gracious and attentive hostess. The Annex is in the charming little village of Foxton, which is an easy drive into Cambridge town centre. Great experience!

    Kenney2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline & family are really helpful and welcoming hosts. Coupled with the fact that Foxton is a quaint little English village, only 10mins on the train from Cambridge and 75 mins from London, makes Caroline's home an ideal place to stay after exploring or justing wanting a relaxing break. The apartment has everything you'd need to make one feel at home - hot water & heating, towels, cooking facilities, WiFi, netflix ...

    Bharat2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • The annexe is delightful - the high ceiling gives the living area a great sense of space and the mezzanine bedroom is lovely, especially waking up to a window of pure sky above the bed! The kitchen is well-equipped and the station just a 10 minute walk from the door, across a grassy field - charming and very handy for direct trains to Cambridge or London. Caroline couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

    Rowan2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • I had a very warm welcome from Caroline on arrival. The Annexe was a good size and had a nice sitting area - I was surprised how spacious it was. The quirky bathroom is as advertised - very cute decoration! 😊 Lovely and warm, so all round nice place to stay for work.

Recently renovated barn to a genuinely high spec - Grade II listed 'Dovecote' located on a working arable farm in a lovely remote setting in the Essex countryside. Situated next to a small duck pond, overlooking the farmyard/old stables/etc as well as the local church, The Dovecote is a two-storey brick and oak framed building finished to a truly high standard. Peaceful & remote with its own courtyard, the Dovecote has an elevated location in the otherwise undeveloped yard.
The Dovecote has a 'one-up, one-down' layout which has been uniquely transformed into the perfect space for a rural getaway. Enter via the original barn doorway through oak framed glass doors onto the ground floor laid with reclaimed brick flooring and consisting of a living room area with cosy log burner, a dining area and a well equipped kitchenette made from potato boxes! Oak stairs lead up to the first floor revealing the full effect of the beautifully exposed original oak beamed roof, under which is a luxury kingsize bed. An oak chest and a clothes stand/rail provide plenty of storage and there is a discreet TV upstairs too. It’s beautifully presented, and absolutely immaculate. It’s furnishings are of a high quality. The place is just magic. Could not recommend enough, and hope to return.

Beautiful converted barn within our Grade Two listed property. The barn is at the rear of our property and has its own private access and garden. The barn is split into two self contained annexes and the garden, private parking and chickens are shared between the two annexes. A full extensive renovation has just been competed in July 2018 and is ready for the perfect getaway, work retreat or stop off. Plenty of local amenities and Kieran will leave you to it, but on hand if you need anything.
A character rich barn conversion to a very high specification, whilest keeping those warm and charming original features throughout. A sun trap right up until sunset in the garden withthe romance of collecting your own eggs in the morning to picking tomatoes and runner beans when in season.
Fantastic village with many amenities including The Sheene Mill Hotel and Restaurant, Melbourn science Park, Saxon Way Business Park, shops, pubs, Hairdressers, award winning butchers and even a fresh fruit and veg shop. There is also Meldreth train station just 10 mins walk away which can get you to London in under an hour or Cambridge in 15 mins.
  • Kieran was a great host and we would definitely go back. Highly recommend.

Available to rent short or medium term single room in lovely new development. Right off the A10 and M11 it’s easy to find and off road parking is available in front of the house. The house is already accommodated by 2 cats and a hamster full-time and an 8 and a 6 year old part-time (shared custody with dad). It has 4 bedrooms so I have decided to let my 4th bedroom, in the hope we meet some interesting people. We’ve only lived here 4 months so it’s lovely and new and clean.
Off road parking available. Cycling distance to city centre (approx 15 mins). Close to Addenbrookes. Good quality (ladies) bike can be borrowed for small extra cost if needed. Trampoline in garden for those so inclined! Excellent pub serving Thai food 5 min drive away.
Superb coffee shop and amenities in nearby village of shelford. Close to duxford, which hosts fabulous air shows. Great pub in next village serving Thai food. Super park in the village with an awesome zip wire if anyone else is a big kid like me;)

  • Lovely home, nice host and cute cats!

    Beth2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Anna is a very gracious and thoughtful host. The area atm is in a bit of disarray as they're still building houses and what have you, but it's gotten a lot better in the weeks I stayed. The cats and the kids are very funny, and it's a lovely atmosphere. Also was happy to arrange a last minute extra night for me when there was an issue with another stay. Thank you!

    Sam2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • I absolutely LOVED staying at this place. It is conveniently located to two grocery stores, both within a 10-15 minute walk. It is about a 10 minute walk to a bus station that goes into the city center for ease of transportation, as well as easy transportation to Addenbrooke's hospital. There is a lovely small playground that we played at everyday (given good weather) and the people there were always nice and friendly. The only downside was the elevator being out of service and the flat is on the third story. My legs got a work out from climbing the stairs everyday! The flat was well equipped, including kitchenware, a comfortable bed, comfy sofas, and extra amenities if needed. If I had any questions regarding the flat, Guy was quick to respond. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Cambridge to stay here. It was a nice "home away from home" for us.

    Judy2019-03-30T00:00:00Z
