  • Suzi’s place is amazing. It’s very clean and well thought out. The main bed where my partner & I slept is very comfortable and the shower has amazing pressure. My mum loved the bath under the stars. It was great to have some milk provided in the fridge. Thank you for a great stay. We’ll definitely be back when in NZ again. : )

  • Beautiful log cabin close to great walks and shops if you need them (but you feel like you're not, it's peaceful and quiet), everything you need in the kitchen and the best shower pressure ever! We really enjoyed this cabin, and the bath out on the deck was lovely. Comfy bed. Got quite a buzz out of the structure itself, very sturdy place. Homely/quaint but with modern touches. Really loved it, wish we had longer there!

  • You will not regret staying at Tessa’s Kuratau Bach. The layout is perfect for groups and families, with everything you need for a cosy stay. We enjoyed BBQ dinners with wine, the fireplace on a cold morning, and even went to the winery behind the Bach (as recommended by Tessa) and enjoyed delicious wines and pizza for lunch on a sunny day. Tess is an incredible host, with impeccable communication and just such a lovely person to deal with, easy to make requests or last minute changes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to come back again soon :) thank you!

  • We were able to get this reservation last minute and it was great. Lucy and James were super helpful when we arrived, and everything fits the description listed. One helpful tip might be that the 1.5 baths is separated into one toilet room (just a toilet) and another room with just a sink and bathtub/shower. This worked out great because we could have one person showering with another person in the toilet and a separate person brushing their teeth in the kitchen sink.

  • This is an incredible place to stay even if you decide not to go anywhere - it looks like you really want to be there! The house is built with a superb taste, love and comfort! The only thing you should take into consideration - there are rather long and steep stairway from the parking lot to the house - so this house is definitely not for the people with any leg problems.

The Loft Taupo has a microwave, fridge, dinnerware, toaster, kettle, linen, and towels. There is no cooktop or stove. There is plenty of safe onsite parking. Many people stay here to do the Tongariro Crossing or to go to the snow. The lake provides loads of entertainment, whether you’re into adventure rides or you just like having an easy place for your children to play. Many people have picnics at the beach and go for ‘High Tea’. Taupo has heaps of shops and restaurants, as well as water and land activities. You could never do them all!

Welcome to our home located a short 12km drive from beautiful Lake Taupo. Nestled on 4.5 ha of farmland, you can relax and enjoy the countryside or use Evergreen Cottage as a base for your adventures. The cottage is entirely separate from the main house and everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay is provided for you including a continental breakfast! We know you will fall in love with Taupo: the alpine air, the gorgeous landscapes, the beautiful lake, and the awesome mountains!
Evergreen Cottage is designed and furnished with couples in mind. The cottage is 'studio style' so the bed, lounge and kitchenette are all in one room with a separate bathroom. Cosy and warm with a comfortable bed, it provides a great place for couples to take a break from the road or base themselves for their local adventures. All your bathroom and bed linen is provided. With great views of the surrounding countryside and no near neighbors, you really do feel like you are away from it all, yet, you are only a short drive to town. A variety of teas, coffee, hot chocolate and milk are provided as well as a continental breakfast with our compliments. Beach towels are there if you need them for a cool refreshing dip in the lake or a long luxurious soak in the thermal waters. Taupo has so much to offer! Stunning scenery, shopping, restaurants, and plenty to do: walks, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, cruises, or relaxing at one of our many cafes, just to name a few! Taupo is centrally located so is a great base to explore other nearby regions like Rotorua, Waitomo, and the Central Plateau and is a great 'halfway' stopping point for the North Island. We have a lovely hot shower and a comfy bed all ready for you. And don't forget to sign our unique guest book - take a selfie with our instant photo camera and tape it into the guest book along with your autograph! VERY IMPORTANT: We communicate through the AirBnB app so please download this to your phone. We send directions and access codes through this app! IMPORTANT: Please note that the kitchenette does not have an oven or cooktop. It does have a small microwave, fridge, toaster, jug, and all dinnerware. Unfortunately, we can not offer Wifi at this stage as, due to our location, we do not have unlimited access. However, there is free Wifi available in various locations in Taupo towncentre and also at the library and MacDonalds restaurant. A good selection of DVDs are provided for your viewing. There is no dining room suite, but the two bedside tables have a pull out that can be used as side tables in the lounge area to place plates, cups, computers etc. We are approx. 12kms out of Taupo township so you will need your own transportation. Conveniently, however, Oruanui Road runs between State Highway One and Poihipi Road, both of which will take you into Taupo. VERY IMPORTANT: We communicate through the AirBnB app so please download this to your phone. We send directions and access codes through this app!
We just love living here! Taupo has some much to offer - stunning scenery, shopping, restaurants, and plenty to do - walks, mountain biking, fishing, just to name a few! And Rotorua is just a short 50 min drive away as well. We live on, what is commonly known in NZ as, a 'lifestyle block' - a small farm of 4.5 hectares. We are surrounded by other blocks and larger farms. We grow our veges, tend our new orchard, and raise chickens, ducks, goats, and cattle. Add a horse, a couple of cats, and a dog and you have our place.
  • We had a great stay! The location was beautiful, and the hosts (both human and animal) were very welcoming!

  • Awesome place, close to city centre and many other places. Would definitely recommend.

  • Sharon and her pup were lovely greeters! The place is very modern and clean.

  • Not a review Fan but this couple deserves all the credit and applause. Right from the outset evrything was perfect. Small detailing and planning on what a guest would need to make his stay awesome was factored and filtered well.. 10 on 10 to Sharon and Murray family. Would not only recommend this family but would be back soon to experience this home away from home experience. Loved every moment spent there. Love, Ela and Kaizad (Auckland, N.Z)

  • Really comfortable bed, really clean and neat, has all you need for a good night’s rest. Wish we had more time to enjoy the space!

  • A really good little hideaway, lovely rural area in the foothills behind Rotorua. Clean and tidy, secluded, with very good accessories- tea, coffee, biscuits, spreads, cereals etc.

    Brett2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon’s place has everything you need and some. The breakfast and little treats was such a lovely touch, it was easy to access and the bed was so comfy. Thanks so much.

Private and quiet, set in lovely gardens, 5 minute walk to lake, parking on site, a 6 minute drive to town and all Taupo has to offer! Flat is cool in summer and warm in winter with gas heater. There is a BBQ, small 'ToastandRoast' oven and microwave available for cooking, and the flat has an ironing board, iron and hair blow drier.
The flat is comfortable and well-appointed with its own outside access and lockable door. You can sit outside and enjoy the birdsong in the surrounding bush, or the views of Lake Taupo.
Our neighbourhood is well kept, with quiet streets. You can walk down to the lake in 5 minutes at the most, where there are some bush areas to walk through. There is a walk through native bush only 2 minutes away. Our house is 6 minutes drive from the centre of Taupo.

Bach 63 is a 1950's authentic, quintessential kiwi bach. It has stunning 180 degree views over beautiful Lake Taupo. It has a funky retro feel. Well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Huge out door deck, private location. Cafés and bar/brasserie 5 min. 8 minutes from CBD.
Spectacular lake views from the open plan living / dining area and both bedrooms. Wonderful expansive deck for bbqing and relaxing. Private location yet handy to town. Well equipped. Funky. The exterior was freshly painted spring 2016. King bed in master room and bunk beds in second room. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO WiFi at Bach 63. But there is good cell phone coverage. Read the reviews to see how previous guests have thoroughly raved about their experience at Bach 63
Close to a great cafe, gallery, dairy, bar and brasserie. There is WIFI at Larte Cafe 1km up the road.
  • Beautiful 2 bed Bach with fabulous view over Lake Taupo - particularly enjoyed watching the sun go down with a glass of wine and then spectacular star gazing. The Bach is well equipped, homely and comfortable. The Bach retains it’s character and charm enhanced by some of the host’s personal touches.

    Martin2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa's Bach is wonderful. One of the best AirBnb experiences I've ever had.

    Kent2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a fabulous weekend stay, we loved this Bach’s relaxed and bachy feel and lovely privacy, the view was spectacular! Especially at night, just mesmerising, a very special memory we are still talking about today and we wished we had been able to stay longer. We certainly recommend and would love to go back. Tracey and Mark.

    Tracey2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Extraordinarily good view of the lake from high above, with boats and swimmers visible below. Lovely deck that makes the most of the outdoor experience on a warm summer evening. At the start of each day beautiful morning light floods into the cottage as the sun rises behind the ranges beyond the lake.

    Mark2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely Bach. Beautiful views hope to be back

    Davina2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Batch 63 is very sweet and very traditional. Not luxurious but everything you need for a short or longer stay. No WiFi but go down to Café Baku on the lake front or L'Arte just up the road and catch up with your emails etc over breakfast. Just another way of reading the paper !!! The icing on the cake was the view.......no words for it apart from AMAZING.

    Jacqueline2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don’t really do it justice - the view from this classic Bach is amazing. A lovely couple of nights here watching the sun set on the balcony over the lake.

    Craig2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sublime views of the lake. Very close to Taupo. Well-equipped traditional house. It only lacks the wifi to make it perfect.

  • Richards apartment was a great space for us to spread out and use for a home base when adventuring around Taupo and Tonagariro. Special treats were home baked bread, the hot tub after long days in the forest, and view of the Southern Cross right out the front door at night! Richard is a great and friendly host, we recommend this place to anyone looking for a quite, comfortable getaway!

Unbelievable outdoor shower!! 10 min drive to Lake Taupo and all main sites. Highly highly recommend.

Cozy Lockwood house between town and junction. Beautiful in summer, and utterly special next to the wood burner on a winter's evening. Not to mention the heatpump and the front deck spa! Fenced back garden for kids and pets. Large covered deck for bikes and skis/boards. Towel and bed linen provided. This was a working home until recently. It’s clean and comfy but not perfect: some of my stuff is still there, the bathroom is clean but tired and the sofa lumpy. If you want a hotel, book one!
Outdoor living decks and a front-row view of the mountain. Peaceful, landscaped backyard with mountain stream at the boundary. All with complete home comforts including washer and dryer.
That view. Walk to town. Walk to Junction. Walk to cool river swimming hole. 500m to mountain road.
  • I literally cannot reccommend this place enough. How amazing! From the view, to the spa, to the little fire pit, but the best part was being allowed to have our dog with us! We can't wait to come back in Winter when it shows! I didn't want to leave! The most relaxing time away I have had in a long time. Thankyou so much ♡

  • I stayed at this place with 5 of my friends, the view was to die for 😍 the house looks beautiful and got all the things you will be needing it was kept clean the hot tub was the highlight and the view you experienced in it’s that is awesome . Andy was pretty quick with his reply and the instruction to check in was explained properly would definitely recommend this place 😇

  • Absolutely wonderful place, with incredible views. The hot tub was to die for! We spent hours in there! Best thing to do after a long hike in Tongariro :) Netflix is hooked up and there are DVDs available - so you can curl up comfortably at night and relax. Lovely place with everything you’d need.

Our place is in Ohakune and close to Turoa skifields plus there is a shuttle to and from the Tongariro crossing close by. The house is cosy and very private a traditional kiwi bach set in the bush with views of Mt Ruapehu and west. The beds are bunk beds with 3 separate bedrooms a seperate shower and a spa bath/toilet. It is not the lap of luxury and there is no Wifi and/or TV although there is mobile phone coverage.
The space is good for a families and/or groups of friends. Can sleep 10 at a stretch but more comfortable with 6 or 7. Has a very good wood burner and loads of wood. The burner can run all night and day if required. It also helps heat the hot water. All linen, bedding and towels provided
The house is very private and borders a farm - great for afternoon sun and views west and of the mountain.

  • This is a rustic cottage with lots of space and some surprisingly nice touches like modern kitchen equipment and jacuzzi tub. It's an old house and by no means in perfect condition, but it has a nice old time atmosphere and a location that feels secluded, despite not being too far from the services in the village. Particularly good for groups.

  • This place is a lovely cosy house. Plenty of room and large comfy beds. The place is heavily set up for winter and would definately keep you warm, however in summer the house can get a little stuffy. That is probably because I'm not used to the high humidity though! My only issue is that the stairs are a little small, but in saying this there is lots of room downstairs for those uncomfortable with climbing up and down the stairs. Either way, super impressed with the house, hospitality and things that were provided. Would love to come again and recommend it to everyone.

    Michael2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This chalet has a great hot tub and the house stays very warm even when it’s cold outside. The hosts were super responsive when we had a request. Thanks for letting us stay in your chalet !

    Dan2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at the log cabin . There is a pond and land behind the cabin that was great to sit in on hot days with a picnic blanket . We made good use of the charcoal bbq and spa , which is a great addition for the location . There are games and a particularly hard puzzle that we couldn’t quite finish. The log cabin was quite warm overnight which was great . Hosts were very receptive and helpful thanks for a great stay

Gazing over the Ruapehu plateau is KUBO - our newly built little house on a hill. We offer our bespoke private guest suite called “Fantail Suite”. Enjoy coffee from the lounge at sunrise, relax in bed as the sun sets or stargaze from the deck on a beautiful night. Located between Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks. A short drive to Turoa and Whakapapa ski fields yet outside the ‘busyness’ of ski town Ohakune. Ideal for a solo adventurer or a couple. NO CLEANING FEES.
The 25sqm Fantail Suite is perfect for a couple but can sleep 4 people max if required. The suite is the first you will see as you park atop the hill. It is connected to the main house but has its own separate, private entrance. The suite’s private deck has partial mountain views and no light pollution - ideal for stargazing on a beautiful night. From here you enter straight to an open lounge and a small kitchenette with limited facilities – a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, and plug-in electric single hotplate – suitable for light meal preparations. We also have coffee, sugar, tea, salt and pepper for your convenience. The bedroom has a king size bed with electric blanket and is separated with full height sliding partition that you can open up if you prefer a more open space. The king bed is set up as sleeping 2 is the most comfy arrangement. The ensuite bathroom has gas-heated water so you won’t run out of hot water. The suite is fully insulated with double glazed windows and doors, a large 14-fin oil heater is available. Fresh linen and towels are provided and plenty of books and board games to pass the time. The loft with low railing accessible by ladder from the lounge, has a single floor mattress to accommodate 1 person but not suitable to a child. The lounge has a sofa bed to accommodate 1 person as well. Beddings/linen/towels will be provided for the sofa bed and loft mattress if you book for the 3rd and 4th person. Enjoy views of rural life in surrounding hills and paddocks from all windows and glass doors. You might even see people hauling logs or cutting firewood from time to time especially during summer. Unfortunately being on top of a hill with steep slopes, the suite is NOT suitable for young kids.
A minute drive to our small rural town's main street with two cafes, a four square grocery, a dairy, an Information Centre, a museum, an Art Gallery, petrol station and the South Hemisphere’s oldest picture theatre. The Waimarino Rodeo is held in Raetihi every March and is the oldest continuing running rodeo in New Zealand and home to one of New Zealand's oldest grandstands. Across the road from the grandstand is Mangatepopo River Walk.
  • This place is awesome! We have stayed in 4 other places on our trip to NZ so far and this has been our favorite by far. Lovely hosts with tons of extra touches. Great view, location and super clean. Glad we found it!

  • This guest suite is the best blend of cozy and modern amidst some beautiful surroundings! We received very detailed and easy instructions to the place (we arrived late in the evening so it was very helpful) and walked into a sparkling clean, comfortable space perfect to rest our heads. The bathroom has everything you can think of and the water pressure was to die for. Homey decor with thoughtful books and charming artwork made it all come together. A special thanks for having coffee for those of us addicts who can’t go a morning without a cup of joe! A definite must stay!

    Jessica2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful studio with an incredible view and thoughtful touches. We came to explore Tongariro and hike the Alpine Crossing and this was the perfect place to unwind following the walk!

  • Highly recommended. Place is very clean, stylish, complete with everything you need for your stay from cooking facilities to bathroom necessities. Bed is very big (could fit 2 adults and 2 kids) and very comfortable. Fantastic views and very quiet 🙂

  • Very nice and cute place to stay if you are within the area, not too far from Ohakune. Only issue is to bring the car up the hill as it is very steep, I would suggest to park at the bottom. Otherwise very nice place

    Eileen2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you find yourself traveling through Raetihi before or after a day at Tongariro National Park, you must stay at Anton & Frances’ place. Situated on a hill overlooking the mountains, we were greeted by sheep and awoken by roosters in the morning. The place is sparkling clean with many thoughtful touches - fresh picked plums, water, fresh towels, and all the essentials. Perfect to rest your head after a day of hiking or exploring. If you happen to have a clear night, be sure to take a few moments to gaze at the stars - I have never seen so many! I highly recommend staying here if you get the opportunity.

Here there is a number of cafes , Restaurants , a local well stocked 4 Square store and is the hub of the support services for the Whakapapa Ski field .National Park has the park and ride services for the ski field, gondla services to have the fantastic views from the mountain , also the world famous and renowned must do--- must see walk --the Tongariro Crossing.
The Raurimu -National park area is a neat place to stay and to enjoy nature at its best and its mostly unspoiled state. There is the rail spiral that is most interesting to see.
  • I stayed here for 2 nights while I was visiting National Park and walking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Small (perfect for one or two guests) but cozy and it had everything I needed including a kitchen to prepare meals, a very comfortable bed for two good night sleeps, and a nice hot shower. It is located just a few short kms from National Park Village, in a quiet and peaceful rural setting. Would highly recommend to my fellow travelers. Great value.

  • Great place to stay, and very convenient for the Alpine Crossing. Their welcome booklet has a ton of useful information regarding the Crossing, shuttle services, food and groceries, and the area overall. Very Helpful! 10/10 And they even have the cutest and friendliest cat and dog! Couldn’t ask for a better little base camp.

Experience sustainable practices at AWHI farm and hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We offer a basic, but affordable stay in one of the our Mini Huts in AWHI village. Do the hike and walk the walk and have some outdoor fun doing it ! Meet Kune Gold Dust, our beautiful pet kune kune pig, along with Honey the dog, and our happy, free-range chickens.
If you are looking for cheap accommodation in Turangi's region, if you want to be close to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (one of New Zealand’s favourite walks), if you like nature and star-gazing, if you want to discover more about eco-friendly permaculture practices and Maori Culture, Awhi Farm is the place to be!! We offer simple, basic accommodation with an authentic, back to nature feel. As part of our sustainable practices, we upcycle materials where possible, and we are also “off-grid”. This means we are not on mains power and we use compost toilets. Please note there is no power, nor light, nor wifi, nor heating system in the huts. It is recommended to bring a torch. Hot water bottles and extra woollen blankets are available for the winter as needed. We have 12 huts and can easily accommodate smaller groups. The huts are small and private. Most of the huts have a simple two bunk design (top and bottom bunk). Three huts have double beds. We have two solar heated showers. Because we do not have constant hot water, hot showers cannot be guaranteed every day, except in the summer when there is plenty of solar hot water for a three-minute shower. The kitchen and dining room are in a shared communal space in the middle of the farm. These have gas cookers available if you wish to cook, and there is also solar lighting. Wifi is available for free in the shared communal dining space, as well as a charging station for usb devices and car charger type plugs. Background information: Awhi Farm is a developing Education Centre for Sustainable Living on four hectares in Turangi, establishing organic gardens, orchards and small experimental buildings. Our sustainable practices include eco-friendly building, growing nutrient rich food, using solar energy, and applying permaculture principles whenever possible. We do not use herbicides or pesticide sprays, and only use natural organic fertilizers. Now that New Zealand is no longer recycling soft plastics, we have adopted a what you bring in you take out policy. Awhi, a Maori word, means to embrace or care for. We have been Awhi farming since March 2010. We love to help in our community and we would love to share a real view into our Maori culture. We are also a small animal sanctuary. Come and meet our rescue animals, Honey our sweet dog, Kune our friendly pig, and our free range chickens. Naumai haere mai (come you are welcome).
The Tongariro National Park is only 20 minutes away by car. Additionally there are many beautiful walks in the area and our river is only a 10 minute walk from the farm.
  • Lisa's farm stay was extraordinary. Sleeping there was an experience we will never forget :) It's a place, where you easily get in touch with people while being in an eco-friendly and sustainable environment. There is no electricity except for the common tent, which is also the only place with wifi and charging stations. The solar shower works perfectly, even on rainy/cloudy days. The tidy huts come with a comfy bed, chair and table. The huts are not heated so maybe mind bringing warm clothes for the night if the warm days are gone. Last but not least, Lisa was a very welcoming and warm host and we immediately felt at home.

  • Lisa runs an eco centre which is absolutely amazing. Growing tomatoes. Cucumbers. Apples. Plums. Corgettes garlic and so much more. All fully sustainable and she was happy for us to help ourselves to anything we wanted. Toilet facilities are eco friendly and a really well thought out system. There is also a solar shower too. Lovely honey the dog is a cutie always coming for cuddles. Accommodation in the huts was great. Really soft mattress clean fresh bedding and extra blankets if needed. No lights so bring a torch. We enjoy dinner in the courtyard and a few games of cards before heading out earlydoor to climb tongariro. Huge thanks lisa. Keep up the good work!

    Michelle2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the farm for one night and had a good sleep. The facilities are basic, but good. There was a communal kitchen to cook meals and WiFi in the common area. The farm has a great atmosphere and we got to meet and chat with a lot of interesting people. The huts are cosy and the bedding and blanket were provided. Getting to see a beautiful starry sky was an added bonus!

    Maria2020-02-21T00:00:00Z

  • As tour operators and running our own Airbnb we found Maureen's place great for us to have our own space and time away from a tour group that were in a local motel. Her place fitted our needs with great space in main room and van was able to park off street which was also important to us. If/when we pass through again with a group we will be back.

Our wonderful bach full of character, is an old mill house which belonged to the local timber mill from the 1940-50s. It then spent several years as the Tauranga ski club, before being lovingly restored into a groovy bach full of rustic charm. It's the perfect place to getaway and relax, or to use as a base after your high octane adventures around the Central Plateau.
On rainy days you can snuggle up in front of the fire with a good book, watch a DVD , play cards or just have a good yarn with each other. This is an awesome place to create some great memories in summertime as well as winter. Please note that there is no fire guard so care must be taken with young children. NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave, and please take your rubbish to the refuse centre down the road. We supply duvets and pillows but you will need to supply linen such as (towels/sheets/pillowcases/tea towels).
It's located a 2 minute walk from The Park restaurant and bar, and 3 minutes from The Schnapps bar where you can enjoy dinner and a drink and a game of mini putt for the kids. 5 minute walk to the lovely Railway Cafe and the start of Fishers Track and the Marton Sash and Door Cycleway. If you enjoy hiking there are several reasons to pull on your hiking boots and go exploring. The most obvious is the famous Tongariro Crossing, but there are many other great walks in the region. Check out the Owhango Lagoon for a beautiful 2 hour walk through the bush. There is also the Tama Lakes, Silica Rapids, Whakapapaiti Valley, Taranaki Falls and plenty more. Take a day trip to the awesome Ruatiti Domain. Bring some tyre tubes and firewood to float down the river and have a BBQ in one of the free old school BBQs afterwards. If you are into mountain biking we have the Fishers track, 42nd Traverse or head to Horopito and do the Old Coach Rd to Ohakune. When you arrive at Ohakune stop in at the famous Powderkeg for a beer and get the shuttle back to your car in Horopito (have a sober driver!). While you’re there call into the fascinating Horopito Motors full of vintage car wrecks piled on top of each other. The kids will love it!!
  • This batch is bloody amazing! It's super cozy and comfy, warm, quiet and just has such a positive energy! The location is amazing as well! When we got here first, it was a bit untidy, but that's not the hosts fault, as the previous guests didn't clean after themselves and left quite a bit of mess.. But it didn't matter to us, as our mom loves cleaning anyways! :D So if you don't mind cleaning after yourselves and treat the batch with respect, this is the place to be! The hosts are super lovely and kind and you can see how much they love their place, so much attention to detail it's amazing! Also the fire place is the bomb!!

  • Lovely place with that cozy feel and wonderful quirky/arty touches. Such a quiet little spot, all you can hear is the fridge and the crackling fire. Plenty of nice dry firewood made it nice and quick to get the fire going. Nice and clean, considering the cleaning is done by the previous occupant

  • A cute little place to stay with a great view of Lake Taupo. You don't have a lot of space and relatively little privacy, since there is no real door to the toilet, but this is only separated by a thin wall as a privacy screen. We still liked it. And the hosts provide a delicious breakfast!

Please don’t book if you are still in Covid-19 quarantine 14 day period. Stone countryfarm stay is nestled behind the hills on a picturesque family dairy farm. Brett and Ruth are a young couple with a baby who are well traveled, hard working and have good banter. We are inviting you into our homely farm cottage that has plenty of character.
A small studio farm cottage with character and afternoon sun
Our neighbourhood is an outdoor play ground full of tramping, water sports, skiing, hunting, cycling etc.
  • Nice host couple in a small but complete unit. Very private but helpful. If nearby would stay here again.

  • The stars are the best I’ve ever seen outside this house. Truly amazing!

    Jennifer2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great experience in this comfy little house. Ruth was really fast to respond to our messages and let us check in before the official check in time. We had everything we need in the kitchen and the bathroom. There was a map on the fridge with all the different walks we could do around. It was amazing! I recommend this Airbnb for sure. Cheers Lucas and Marie

  • Gorgeous, quaint little countryside cottage. Clean and well equipped little kitchenette. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Dawn2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Really conveniently located, had all that we needed and enjoyed sitting on the bench on the verandah. Also appreciated the chance to catch up on laundry! Many thanks

    Karen2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We needed a break from campings and this place was perfect. Clean, cozy and quiet place to rest. We would go back and definitely recommend to other travelers.

    Chika2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed for one night, but we had a nice stay with Ruth. The cottage has everything you need and is cosy and clean. The only thing is it can get quite hot when the sun shines in. You can take a nice walk across the farm as well as other activities that were detailed in Ruths letter on the fridge but that we didn't have time for.

Downstairs bedroom looking north over farmland. Bedroom has a queen sized bed and one set of bunks. Right next door to your bathroom and separate toilet. We keep some books and clothes in the wardrobe but there's plenty of room for guests clothes in the wardrobe and separate chest of drawers. Our home is set on 2 hectares which we are developing into a semi-self-sustainable place of work and peace.
The guest bedroom is ideal for a couple or two singles who don't mind sharing a room. We could take a family who don't mind bunking together. Please ask us for pricing and suitability if there are more than two of you.
Quiet bordering on still. Very few footpaths. Half of the roads are unsealed. Locals just walk down the middle of the road. Very relaxed. You meet people from all over.
  • Nice place to stay on the countryside

    Leen2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Tim and Doreen were very welcoming hosts and have a beautiful home, in a stunning location. We loved the grounds, cows, ducks and ducklings. They very kindly gave us some of their delicious fresh plums from their garden and their homemade muesli was very yummy. The room itself was very comfy and had everything we needed, the bathroom was very nice and clean. We also had full access to the kitchen so we could cook some meals there. Their rescue dog Jill was also lovely and very quiet. Perfect place to get away from the cities and to do tongariro. They were also very helpful with local tips and suggestions for the rest of our trip around NZ.

    Holly2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Even though we never got to meet Tim in person, we had a great time at his place. Check-in was easy and everything was clean and tidy. It was a good base for hiking the Tongariro Crossing and going to see the glowworms. Would stay again

    Kyle2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Staying on Tims farm was great, truly made us feel at home with their hospitality and help with getting around. If you get a chance to stay here, you should! Beautiful property and so much to do in a short drive.

    Michelle2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Doreen and Tim have a cosy house in a very quiet area. We had good advice and some good talks. Higly recommended. Kit and Keld

  • A nice relaxed , friendly place to stay and use as a base for the many activities the area has to offer. Looking forward to staying again. Garry & Linda

Misty Mountain Hut-Ruapehu is located in the sleepy little village of Rangataua, 5 minutes distance to Mountain road going up to the Turoa skifield. The 1 bedroom plus loft colonial villa has a beautiful view of the mountain. The recent renovation has retained the old world charm and Bohemian flair, unlimited wifi and a new firebox with plenty of firewood to ensure you are warm in winter. My favourite time here is summer for amazing walks/cycling up mountains to enjoy majestic views.
There is 1 large bedroom available as well as a mezzanine King single mattress if needed. Bedlinen is incorporated cleaning charge.
  • Beautiful and clean cottage, located within driving distance of major hikes and activities. We enjoyed cozy nights by the fireplace and stargazing at nighttime. Magical location and communicative, hospitable host.

  • Such a cosy little hideaway, we loved the wood-burner and the beds were so comfy!

    Eleanor2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage, even better in real life. This was a perfect place to stay for a few nights whilst exploring the Tongariro National Park. The cottage has everything you need and more, with lovely attention to detail throughout. We loved putting on the wood burning stove after a day out! I really recommend staying here, as it’s comfortable, amazing quality, quiet and a home from home.

    Melissa2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Antje’s place, bed was very comfortable. Nice big bath was appreciated after doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We also liked the washer and dryer which was very convenient for us. The place has a lot of cachet!

    Sylvie2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for having us in your gorgeous wee home. It's private, cosy, and homely. We were excited that it was cool enough one evening to have a crack at lighting the fire! Braden was ecstatic that there was Sky Sport available. That man can't be without his Rugby and UFC no matter where we go so thank you on his behalf. We enjoyed creating delicious platters on the chopping boards you provided and sipping red wine on the cosy leather couches. There were all the utensils I needed to whip up some Chelsea Winter hotcakes - Even an old school egg beater. While walking the Tonagiriro Crossing (in horrendous weather) the thought of that hot shower when we returned home got us through! Murphy's Law, the day wee left was the most beautiful of our stay. I told a little white lie to Braden and said we needed to be out one hour before we needed to. This was so we could sit together and enjoy one last breakfast at the wooden table before venturing home - My plan worked :-) Thank you again for having us! Jess & Brades

    Jessica2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic, characterful cottage, perfectly located for exploring the surrounding area. We had a super stay, and when the mist cleared, the panoramic views just beyond the driveway were superb. Recommended!

    Nolan2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Antje's house is a real pearl. Very quiet area and renovated with a lot of love without losing the charming character of the house. The house is exactly as described. It is very clean, well kept and we enjoyed every day here. But if you are looking for 5 star luxury hotel with anonymous perfection, this is the wrong place. If you are looking for the unique charm of a loving home, it is the ideal accommodation. We would go back anytime.

Jailhouse Ridge is a fully self-contained unit with its own private access, ideal for couples. It is surrounded with 7 acres of gardens, totara trees, ponds & paddocks to explore. Your own private spa awaits you on the deck & is serviced daily. With a Queen bed, fully equipped kitchen, en-suite & log fire, it has everything you need for a fantastic stay. The mezzanine floor, accessed by a steepish staircase, has a sofa, 42" TV , Freeview, DVD, WIFI, & 32" TV with Chrome-cast downstairs.
"Escape to the Plateau!" Sit in the spa and enjoy the views towards the mountain and try and spot all the types of bird life we have in the valley. Please note that from June through to October, we enter the winter season and to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing you will need to engage guides through local companies to equip yourselves properly for ice and snow . There are several smaller walks in the area between 20 mins to 2 hours which may be an alternative option. November-April brings warmer weather but conditions still need to be checked daily. Shuttles will need to be booked to transport & collect you to the Crossing entrances. Please ask if unsure
Owhango is a small village, perfectly placed for those wishing to explore the Tongariro National Park & Central Plateau areas. It has an excellent cafe for breakfasts and lunches, open seven days a week. World class trout fishing spots are within 10 mins drive, as are a couple of lovely short walks. We are 15 mins from the town of Taumaranui for all your groceries and restaurants, & 20 mins to the village of National Park for restaurants & bars. Here you will find the shuttles that can take you up to Whakapapa Ski field or to The Tongariro Crossing if required. The new Sky Waka Gondola is now up and running at Whakapapa. Fully enclosed, it can take you up to the top restaurant on the mountain for stunning views and to touch the snow in the shoulder seasons. A 30 min drive will take you to the famous Chateau Hotel & Whakapapa Village, where many short walks can be taken. Jailhouse Ridge is near the end of the 42 Traverse mountain biking track, & handy to The Timber Trail & Old Coach Road trails. Rail cart tours through tunnels and stunning scenery on an old railway track with Forgotten World Adventures are 20 mins drive away in Taumaranui. If you are staying for a while we recommend paddling down the Whanganui river for a wilderness escape. Local companies can assist you with this. We are approx 1.5 hours to Taupo where you will find geothermal activities and a buzzing lakeside town.
  • This hidden paradise has a well equipped kitchen and therefore no need to eat outside, just bring your groceries and enjoy! We’ve had a wonderful time and a perfect location to rest. Diane & Hamish are great hosts and make you feel very welcome. Till we meet again!

    Nick2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place! Diane and Hamish are really nice, and their place is peaceful, well equipped (the jacuzzi is great after a hike day). Definitely recommended!

    Marie2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place for me to recharge after a busy week of travels. The location is so peaceful and the deck with hot tub are fantastic places to rest and recover after a long hike. The kitchen had all I needed and more - having breakfast items and chocolate were great additions. The bed was super comfy and I slept so well. The view of the stars and the moon from the deck are also amazing - and it is so quiet and peaceful. Di and Hamish are fantastic hosts. Thank you so much Di and Hamish for the fantastic couple days.

    Carrie2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Diane and Hamish have one of the best places to stay in New Zealand. They are wonderful hosts. Their place is immaculate, and the views are amazing. The breakfast provided was absolutely delicious. We couldn’t have had a better stay and wish we could have stayed longer.

    Amy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Diane and Hamish are very friendly and hospitable hosts. The place is in stunning scenery and the pictures on the web do not do it justice. Awesome place to relax!

    Olli2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely perfect Airbnb experience! Diane and Hamish are great hosts and have put a lot of attention to detail into the accommodation. The views are really lovely, too. We loved sitting on the porch and watching the garden (or stars at night). Highly recommended!

    Carolin2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant stay here and can’t recommend it highly enough. Beautiful setting, cosy accommodation with the added luxury of the spa pool, and warm and welcoming hosts. We enjoyed chatting to Diane and Hamish whilst wandering round their land and meeting the donkeys and sheep! Very convenient for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing too.

    Alice2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • It helps that this is one of my favourite places in New Zealand and the setting and grounds are so scenic. Hamish and Di are excellent hosts. The accommodation is fully self contained but is attached to their house. They are available if needed and friendly but not intrusive. The flat is comfortable and well equipped with outdoor seating and a spa. Recommended and excellent value for money

The house is very cosy and well equipped, and we had a fantastic time exploring the farm with our two children. They loved the riverside, the trampolin and all the friendly animals. Thank you Lucy for a very warm welcome!

  • This is the third time we’ve stayed at the cottage and our experiences there continue to surprise and delight us. John and Meagan truly live in an oasis from the rush and stress of life. It is a blessing to be able to share in a slice of that by visiting the Milk and Honey Cottage. We look forward to another visit someday in the future. Thank You!

    Fumika2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at a fabulous location. Hospitality superb. Meagan and John were great hosts, and if you are looking for some real peace and quiet in the countryside this is the place for you. Highly recommended.

  • A piece of heaven on earth! Pictures are inadequate to depict the beauty of the majestic landscape that engulfs you from the drive down the country road to your stay at the cottage. We enjoyed the farm fresh eggs and treats. We had only wished we had scheduled more than 1 night so we would have had time to walk down to the river or go on a farm tour. Hopefully, life will bring us back this way. Thanks for a great time!

    Rose2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was a very nice stay in the guesthouse. Breakfast was taken care of. There were fresh eggs from the farm's chickens, butter, coffee and a small chocolate cake. The journey was well described for us but slightly difficult, but it was worth staying there. Next time we are planning a longer stay.

    Diana2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
