  • Kirsty and Steve were excellent hosts! Showed us how everything worked in the snug, and had it warm and toasty for our arrival and warmly welcomed us! Amazing views. Lovely to get to see and feed the beautiful Bert and Ernie, and of course Alfie the handsome cat :) cooking was easy to do in the well appointed kitchen, and the shower was great, we will 100% return!

  • Kristy and Steve are the best example for Scottish hospitality. With their welcoming and warm attitude, they will make you feel at home far away from home.

    Till2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Really great place to stay and more spacious than we were expecting.

    Llewellyn2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the pod . Steve & Kirsty are amazing hosts and were always helpful during our stay. This is our first time glamping (and to use chemical toilet!)and the cleanliness of the pod was top notch. One of the best places we have ever stayed and we look forward to stay again when we plan our NC500 next year :)

    Aravind2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts are extremely warm and help where possible. Incredibly nice, cozy place to stay and the view is amazing. I can only recommend it.

    Tanja2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Kirsty and Steve couldn’t have been nicer, fountains of knowledge on the area and they were both lovely chatting away to our wee boy (who loved Bert and Ernie). Absolutely no complaints, the snug was amazing, so nicely done. We loved our stay 😀.

    Rory2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Kirsty and Steve are such welcoming hosts, personally greeting you on arrival, to showing you around the snug and telling you about all the lovely things to explore! The snugs are literally snug! So warm, cosy and the views are amazing. If you’re a sucker for a view like me then this is the place to go. I will definitely be returning and I recommend this place sooo much.

    >200 airbnb/trip advisor +ve comments over 12 years tells it all. Sea Otter Cottage and the separate Sea Shore Cottage, at an incredible location in Ackergill, just a mile from North Coast 500 route but <2 miles from Wick's supermarkets, gourmet restaurants and railway station. Open all year. We suggest: Fly Luton, Gatwick or Bristol ->Inverness then relax on ScotRail's Club 50s scenic "Far North Line" e.g. Fly 9.30-12, Rail 2-6pm. Total off season travel cost from £100 return!
Looking out north across sheltered Sinclair Bay towards Orkney and the Pentland Skerries lighthouse, this fully equipped, foreshore cottage has unforgetable sea views. As the tide comes in across the sheltered bay, you could be watching a living oil painting of the ocean surf. Orcas are regularly visible, seabirds and seals abound and guests do sometimes even see our shy sea otter. It might seem far north but is still south of all of Norway and is well worth the two hours scenic seaside journey on the road up from lnverness. Don't miss the Store House restaurant (M-Sat 9-6, Sun 10-5) just 12 miles north of the Kessock bridge, or Dunrobin Castle near Golspie. For those who enjoy eating out there are in Wick several excellent local hotels and even a gourmet French restaurant. (Greetings to Andre) McKays friendly hotel (give Rupert's personal greetings to Murray) holds the Guinness book record for the "Shortest street in the world" Further afield in Scrabster (20 miles) both the Upper Deck and the distinctively ethical Captain's Galley ("Which" Best Fish Restaurant in the UK: 2008) are highly recommended - The Castle of Mey and Gringoe / Sinclair castle are well worth visits while the hinterland is a major bird sanctuary. Thurso has a world class surfing beach. Wick has regular sea boat/harbour festival and fly-ins for light aircraft. lf you love the sea and tranquillity this is the place for you to sit reading by a traditional open fire or to go for shoreline walks. At high tide, with only the sea and the surf visible through the French doors; you could even be at sea without seasickness. Being East coast midges are virtually never a problem, yet facing west, the view from the kitchen of the sun setting over "Ackergill Towers" (try googling it and compare the prices!) with every wave of a high tide being tinged with pink has to be seen to be believed. But if you in the light of all this beauty you still need the internet, there is free Wi-F in both Sea Shore and Sea Otter Cottages. As in so many places in the Highlands the quality varies. Hopefully you will find enough enjoyment of the location for this not to be too big a problem, and for some even an advantage. If messages are essential good Wi-Fi access is available in Weatherspoons in the centre of town, or in the foyer of McKays or the Norseman hotels. If requested, an ink-jet printer/photocopier/scanner can be provided. Travel: Direct by air to Wick from Aberdeen or Edinburgh and hire a car from Richard's friendly local garage. Alternatively fly to lnverness airport (direct, low cost flights from Luton, Gatwick, Heathrow, Liverpool, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle), or else travel more sedately up to Wick by coach or by the comfortable scenic train.
Wonderful Caithness - Track down their website. No mountains but also (unlike the West coast of Scotland) virtually never any midges. Fantastic sunsets over the castle a field away next door. Google Ackergill Tower for another website with lots of local info. One of Britain's best beaches a short walk away
  • We loved our stay, it is so peaceful and quiet

    Marit2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A spectacular location! Thoroughly recommended.

    Druin2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • At high tide you could be in a boat, with waves lapping below, and at low you have an amazing stretch of coastline to explore. South along Ackergill beach for castles rising through the mist, and north for sweeping views. Loved every day of it!

    Sybilla2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spot to watch and listen to the waves and sounds of nature. Loved seeing the otters and a puffin. Very calming.

    Shelley2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Super place, everything you could possibly need and want. Fast response to communication. Great scenery, fantastic location and view's. Will be back.

    Mel2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Expect a fantastic view from this lovely little cottage. Ideal place for a quiet holiday, but there are shops about 5 minutes drive away.

    susan2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • The view from the patio is breathtaking - didn't want to move! We saw seals in the bay whilst sat on the patio which was a treat 😍 Sea Otter cottage is well located for loads of nearby sites and venues and nearby Reiss sands is an absolutely stunning beach. The cottage was well supplied with everything you need and was comfortable and cosy. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing break. I imagine it would also be stunning in the colder months and we had some stunning sunsets with Ackergill tower as the focal point - blissful - book up now! ❤️

    Heather2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place has it all. Fantastic views of the Sea. Additional blankets, towels, tea towels, bath robes and plenty of cutlery. Microwave, Electric hob and cooker, tumble dryer, heating, log fire. The property has a lived in homely feel and was perfect for our needs. If you want a relaxing time away from the city and gadgets this is the place to stay. I would include additional pictures of each room and its views as the photographs supplied don't give it the full justice it deserves. The decor is a little dated but who cares when you have views to die for.

The Noddle is a gorgeous, eco-friendly home on the peaceful, stunning island of Hoy. The house which is full of character and natural light, is heated by a Wood Burner plus Under-Floor Heating. The property has views of Scapa Flow and is surrounded by a garden that leads to it's own Beach and River. The land includes a woodland area and wild flowers, 6 acres in total. Wild life includes: Orca's, Otters, Hen Harriers, Sea Eagles, Seals + many sea birds. On clear nights stars adorn the heavens.
SAFETY: Young children must be supervised at all times as there are no fences separating the water from the house. The house is equipped with Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms. There is a modern Doctors Surgery at Longhope, at the south of the Island, which is run by wonderful, professional people for whom nothing is too much trouble. On the Orkney Mainland there is a brand-new hospital in Kirkwall. which for serious concerns is reached from Hoy by The Car Ferry which is on stand-by 24/7 and Helicopter.
Hoy is a wonder, it celebrates many unique features. Orkney has been voted several times as the Happiest Place in Britain and there are no police on Hoy. At the T Junction from Lyness Ferry is The Anchor Hotel which has a bar open to the public, and can be walked to from The Noddle. People are friendly and it is a tradition to wave to drivers as you pass regardless of whether you know them or not. Just across the river ( Mill Burn) is Emily's Cafe and shop which is well worth a visit. The island can be split figuratively into several parts. The North has a huge RSPB Reserve where you can see a pair of sea eagles that have a chick, this is the first time sea eagles have nested there in 150 years. To the North west, driving through the spectacular valley, you will pass the Drawfie Stane the oldest stone monolith in Europe. This road leads to Rackwick Bay where you can walk to the Old Man of Hoy. Rackwick Bay is stunning with the highest beach cliffs in Europe. The middle of the island, including Lyness, is where the Royal Navy had their command bases during the 1st and 2nd World Wars and you can still observe the remnants of buildings left from those times including the Military Museum. The south of the Island has the community of Longhope with its local shop, which sells just about everything, plus a small harbour - home to the lifeboat station and The Royal Hotel. Further south you come to the Stromer Bank Hotel and the Cantick Lighthouse. They say if you stand at the entrance of the Stromer Bank Hotel on a clear night you can see 11 lighthouses. Hoy is a peaceful and calm island which is why it is and continues to be a magnet for artists of all types including Peter Maxwell Davis who wrote "Farewell to Stromness". In a few words Hoy is a very special refuge of calm in this ever increasingly hectic world. We have found that the journey there enables one to shed the hurly- burly of our busy lives as we get back to nature. It has changed our lives and our wish is that your visit may change yours.
  • Lovely place to stay. Warm house despite the weather. Fast communications with the owner. Apart from a dish rack would be a good investment :) we managed to use the washing bowl to drain the wet dishes...overall we enjoyed our stay.

    Hailing2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend this place. A place of tranquility, a private piece of earth to unwind and relax on this very busy planet! I have had a terrible year last year and been very stressed. I actually felt myself feel peace and calm here. You literally can shut the world out. The views of the sky in the morning were spectacular , red skies . So peaceful and so private so you really feel you are getting away from everything. This reflects the feel of Hoy in general during winter we hardly passed any cars on the road. The property has bags of room and the underfloor heating with large log burner kept us warm and cozy. Tony as host very helpful and accessible responds to any queries directly and the instructions to get there were helpful. A truly different relaxing way to see in the new year.

    Claire2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic! We had a great time, the place is stunning & beautiful

    Wolfgang2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in a truly outstanding location. We spent a good deal of our time just sitting in the sun lounge looking out onto Mill Bay, it changes by the second. Hoy itself is a place to die for, just so rich in natural beauty and so so quiet. The people are just so friendly. I'd highly recommend a stay at the Noddle

    Donald2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tony’s Noddle is a dream on the beach in Hoy. Be prepared for a quiet escape that has plenty of room in all of the listed guest quarters. If we ever return to the Orkneys, we will be seeking out the Noddle for a restful stay. Thank you Tony!

    Jonathan2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • This home is lovely, and it's location couldn't be better. Tony was a star to deal with, highly recommend to all :-)

    Angela2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed my time here very much - the house was clean, the garden was lovely, and its extremely peaceful.

    Tom2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn’t recommend making the trip to The Noddle more highly! What a wonderful escape from the bustle of the world, yet with all of the modern comforts you could need. You effectively have your own private bay, with seals, otters and sea birds all seen frolicking in the time we were there. The view is incredible, and the gardens immaculate (in a wild an beautiful way). The house has everything you could need; from cafetière to iron, ample fridge and freezer and great oven. There are all the condiments you might need, and a great range of pans and utensils. There’s no dishwasher but with a huge double sink that’s no bother. The location is great - within walking distance of the ferry terminal but out of the way enough that you feel like you’re totally alone. A wonderful spot to explore Hoy from (car recommended!!). If you’re on the fence, get off it and book the Noddle!

  • The Crofter’s Snug is the cosiest, most welcoming and unusual place with a fantastic view of Orkney. Kirsty was so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed including wood for the fire pit. Cooking sausages with the wind blowing and wrapped up in lots of layers was a fun experience! The snug is so well equipped with a very comfortable bed and powerful shower. We’d love to come back in the summer but I highly recommend booking this for a cosy autumn getaway. We’ll be back!

  • This is a perfect place to stay if you are touring the North. It sits on top of a beautiful hill overlooking the bay. The house itself is clean and comfortable. Perfect for two!

  • The Wee Hoosie is a lovely little stay, a really modern tiny get away.

    Brittany2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Angela was an exceptionally open and welcoming host, and it was a pleasure to stay in her wee hoosie. The space was well presented, very clean and tidy, and exactly what it said in the description. The breakfast bag was a nice touch as it is quite far from the shops for someone used to city living, so that came in very useful. The space itself was cosy and neat, decent amenities, and heated up very fast which was great for a December visit! All in all, a lovely place to stay on a weekend break!

    Tallulah2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Angela went above and beyond to make my trip and stay as comfortable as possible. Will definitely be back again! Room was perfect and has everything you would need to eat sleep, clean and cook.

Blingery Cottage welcomes all including your dog. A traditional cottage which has been sympathetically renovated and is very comfortable. It is situated in a peaceful setting which boasts panoramic views of Caithness and the farm ... and its resident sheep and highland cattle. A wood burning stove creates the perfect atmosphere (logs provided) & you're welcomed with tea/coffee, milk & biscuits. A lovely and relaxing country retreat with an abundance of wide open space, peace and quiet.
Sitting in the midst of acres of open farmland, Blingery (rhymes with "gingery") is a peaceful and relaxing 'get away from it all' cottage. It is approx 300 metres from the main farm with access via a track passable by 2 wheel drive vehicles. The accommodation is on 1 level and consists of an open-plan kitchen, dining, living room, with a sofa bed and a wood burner (Logs are provided PLEASE don't burn coal). The bedroom has a zip/link super king-size bed which can be made up as 2 singles if preferred. There is a good size bathroom with shower over the bath, WC and wash-hand basin.
The nearest town of Wick has a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants. It also has an attractive harbour, commercial airport and a railway station. Ferries run from Scrabster, near Thurso and Gills Bay, west of John O' Groats to Orkney, which is well worth a visit. Caithness is a well established agricultural area, fringed to the north and east by dramatic coastal scenery. Away from the coast, the landscape is dominated by scattered settlements, open moorland and blanket bog known as the Flow Country. Caithness is held in very high regard by salmon and trout fishermen.
  • Our stay in the cottage was wonderful. Thanks for everything, the house was equipped wich much more than what we were expecting. We are looking forward to coming back.

TV with Netflix which was great for a stormy night in.

Welcome to my comfy Thurso pad. Just unlock the door, and you're home! Perfect for two, with luxury kingsize bed (that splits to two singles), kitchen alcove, washer, wifi, TV and bright shower room. Great for your night or 7 in the Far North. Just a short stroll away from takeaways and restaurants; and supermarkets too – create a tasty stovetop feast to enjoy in front of the telly. And relax.
The king bed splits to two 2 foot 6 inch singles - for two friends to share the room without getting on top of each other ! Here are some more some do's and don'ts to consider before you decide to book, starting with the do's first: Do book if: - You like the idea of an ensuite hotel room without the hotel bit, and with the privacy and freedom to cook, and do your laundry when you want to. - You are travelling light - maybe in a wee sprightly car - and need to wash, iron and wear again your small cases of nice clothes before dining out in style. - You are up to 2 cyclists. it is just (underlined just) possible to bring a maximum of 2 bicycles into the apartment. It's a tight squeeze round the front door; you'll need to take off your panniers on the street to get your bikes through the door. - You have outdoor gear you need to stack up in the vestibule, and want to hang up such as wetsuits, rucksacks and the rest to drip and dry there.
Perfect for enjoying Thurso Town Centre.
  • A good central location, comfortable bed, warm and cozy, great host

  • Jon is a great host who really took the time to show me round the place and tell me everything I needed to know. He also made sure to leave lots of information about the area including a map with locations of grocery stores and everything I needed to know. The place itself is cosy and neat, and I really enjoyed my stay there. Would definitely visit again.

  • Jon's place is perfectly located to get around town, and a great, cozy space to base yourself in to explore Caithness. The check-in process was flawless, and Jon has amazing tips for anyone who needs them! Thanks for a great stay!

    Christopher2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jon's flat was perfect for a short break and we had a great stay there this weekend. The unit is entirely self contained, very clean and cosy and has just what you need for a few nights in Thurso. Jon met us with a warm welcome and gave us a thorough introduction to the space before leaving us to our own devices, and was only a message and a few doors away if we needed anything. As we're familiar with the area we didn't require any the tips about the local amenities but everything was well provided for and I'd recommend this host and flat to anyone visiting Thurso or Caithness in future. Thanks Jon!

It had everything we could ask for and more, the little touches were lovely and we really appreciated the ring binder with all the helpful information. The place was a perfect mix of private/off the beaten track but still near enough a bigger town with everything we needed. Absolutely perfect week and would love to stay here again!

  • My partner and I had a wonderful time staying in The Stable. It was so well equipped for a self-catering holiday and in a great location which was within close proximity of a number of places of interest whilst also being secluded. The lodge is beautifully decorated and feels very spacious, and we also loved having the hot tub as well! The amenities were great and Fiona was a great host. We would highly recommend this lodge and we hope to return in the future.

    Emma2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, extremely clean, comfortable, warm and cosy pod! Amazing hot tub with beautiful views, Fiona was great to respond and husband met us shortly after arrival to make sure we were ok and show us the hot tub. BBQ was great! Shower was very powerful, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook! The bed was extremely comfortable and nice and big too! We couldn’t ask for anything more apart from possibly staying for longer! Best stay of our honeymoon so far! We look forward to another stay in the future!

  • Oh wow, this was more than just an airbnb dream coming true. Kathy and Tim are outstandingly friendly and forthcoming . This is in addition to their house beeing just stunning. The view is such an incredible beauty and we were welcomed very warmly with a personal note, whisky and sweets. Don't miss to stay with them!

    Anna-Sophia2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing view, which can be with stars you can see from the bed before you sleep and meet fantastic mist morning, depends on weather of course, together with great hospitality Kathy and Tim can make great start for your NC500 journey, which was for me!

    Sergei2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. It’s everything advertised and more. Beautiful home and the views are amazing. Even visited with some coos this morning. Perfect place. Wish I could have stayed longer.

    Martha2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place to stay. There is a wonderful “Kim Kardashian” shower to enjoy!

    Angela2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very stylish architect-designed house, a modern interpretation of the traditional crofting blackhouse, though timber clad. Spectacular views over the bay to Dunnet Head on a clear day (I imagine, as we had “Scotch Mist” for the whole stay, only lifted on our departure. That’s Scottish weather!). Such friendly hosts, made the stay a delight. They provided a bottle of local single malt in the apartment which is a self contained bedroom and luxurious bathroom. Parking on driveway. A superb and unusual stay, highly recommended.

    Malcolm2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Very stylish, luxurious accommodation provided by a very warm and welcoming host.

    Moya2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • It is a wonderful place to stay. Very unique.

    Ine2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our time with Kathy was wonderful! The accommodation is modern and lovely furnished...We immediately felt at home. The large window is impressive. From here you can look directly from your bed at the landscape and (if you are lucky) enjoy the starry sky. The nicest thing about our stay was the conversations with Kathy. She is incredibly helpful and courteous. Kathy is always open for a nice chat, but leaves you enough privacy. We would come back at any time and hope for an opportunity to visit Kathy again. It was a pleasure to be her guest!

  • The room at Jacqueline’s home is amazing! You literally hear the waves at night (and just close the window if you prefer quieter). Jacqueline is very kind, I wish I had a bit more time in town, I only stayed a night. Aa a great bonus, in the morning, Jacqueline was kind enough to give me a lift to help me catch my ferry on time.

    Levent2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Jacqueline's place was really easy to find. Its great treat is that while it looks ordinary from the front it backs right onto the beach. Jacqueline is a great host and recommended a lovely place to eat. A great place to stay.

It is also well situated for walker's as in every direction is a nice walk. Weaverhall is in a beautiful secluded area but all local amenities are easily accessible.

  • We stayed at Weaverhall Cottage in March 2020 and had a fantastic time in this accommodation. Neil pre arranged to meet us in Stromness to guide us to the cottage as it was a bit tricky to find on google maps. The cottage was clean, in a great location if you have a car, and had stunning views over the island of Hoy.

  • We had a great time at this cottage. There are gorgeous views over the sea, and lovely walks nearby. The cottage had everything we needed for a self catering trip and was really cosy with lots of nice touches! Ingrid and Neil were very helpful and so accommodating. Excellent hosts and we would definitely stay again (Probably in summer though! 😂)

    Alison2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Neil's house. It was really cosy and homely in the evenings with stunning views during the day. A short walk to Stromness (though I'd bring a torch for the evenings if you are walking back) and a thoroughly pleasant place to unwind after your day. Would stay again.

  • This place is perfect! Right on the seafront with seals playing outside your back door. There are many nearby walks and we enjoyed exploring the cliff tops and light houses and even did a day trip to Orkney. We saw lots of baby grey seals around the area. Place is very modern and everything you need, we self catered for the week and had one lunch at a seafood bar in Thurso. We made great memories! Thank you!

  • We wouldn’t hesitate to stay in this lovely cottage again, it really made our trip to Stromness all the more special. So much care and attention has gone into making every room unique and comfortable we would find ourselves looking forward to returning at the end of the day and sitting up next to the fire! Great host, great communication and all the information we could need to get started! What are you waiting for?

  • Lovely quirky cottage ideally located in the centre of Stromness. Ideal for two.

    Anthony2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here is experience in its own right. The attention to detail in the design is extraordinary, it's like stepping into a museum/film-set whilst being an incredibly well equipped and practical space. The location is great, just a few minutes walk from the centre of town, very quiet at night but close enough for your fish and chips to still be warm by the time you get back! Stromness itself is a charming place, good amenities for its size and a great setting off point for anything you might want to see on the islands. If you get the chance to book into Fisherman's Cottage I would take it. It's a pretty unique place and staying there was one of the (many) highlights of our trip.

  • Isobel was a great hostess, she welcomed us warmly and has a great sense of humor. She had great tips for eating out (ynot !!!) and for our further trip - worth seeing is Latheronwheel Harbor (over the bridge a footpath leads to the mountain). The room is a good size and can accommodate 3 people (1 double bed and 1 single bed). The decor was great. We would definitely book again at Isobel! Thank you, Isobel! :-)
