Places to stay in South New Berlin
Secluded spot on the hill above Chenango Lake in upstate New York. Easy access to lake and with lots of room for children to play. 19 acres mostly woods. Ham radio available. Please read full listing before booking!
This house, built in 1903 was owned and lived in by some influential people in the area. It has folklore associated with Lucille Ball owning it, certainly not true, but she stayed here at times. Kitchen facilities include two stoves, microwave, toaster and a Mr. Coffee. Please ask host to use washer and dryer. You supply your own laundry detergent. Linens and towels are provided and cleaned by host. Bedroom 3 is on the second floor, it has a queen bed and the use of a shared bathroom. Please check with the host as to available rooms when booking. Chenango Lake: This 133 acre lake is free for fishing (Statewide fishing regulations apply), wading, swimming and boating. There is a small public access to the lake, which in fact, is designated public assess in the deeds of this house. The house is not on the lake, which is roughly 500ft from the beginning of the 1/2 mile driveway, this is a beautiful walk. In February, when the Ice on the lake is thick there is Chenango Lake Perch Derby week. Winter: The house is open for rental all year round but please be aware high snow fall is possible during the winter months. The house has a long steep drive that is plowed. But be advised that a four 4 wheel drive vehicle is recommended! Or you can be adventuress and park at the bottom of the road and walk up! Amateur Radio: This is an excellent radio site as evidenced by the closest neighbor; a 300ft Tower installed by AT&T when land based microwave links provided much of the communications network. The tower is now used for the cellular system and the horns are just decoration. There is a station setup in the corner of the family room. The rig is an Elecraft K3s with a P3 pan-adaptor, KPA500 power amplifier and KAT500 antenna tuner. The antenna is a Steppir DB18 on the roof using a Green Heron rotor. The station is free for use by renters who provide proof of license for operation in the USA, it is off limits to those who do not hold an amateur radio license.
House is in a very private location. About a 10 Minuit walk to the lake, uphill walk back to house.
  • A beautiful place near Chenango Lake - rooms are spacious and the bed I had was great. Brian and Susan were lovely hosts.

  • Only issue was that my phone would not work in my room. They did offer opportunity to sit near their “hot spot”

Nestled into the woods on a quiet road just a few yards from Chenango Lake, this 2-bedroom retreat is the perfect spot to relax in any season.
The home was fully remodeled in 2017 to emphasize abundant natural light and serene views. The main living area features an open design ideal for entertaining family and friends. Enjoy morning coffee or an evening glass of wine on the deck, where you might catch a glimpse of one of the bald eagles who frequent the area.
This is a quiet area 7 miles from the small town of Norwich, NY. The closest grocery stores and restaurants are in town.
  • This place was amazing for our stay! The photos really don't do justice to how nice and clean Lori's home is. The living room and kitchen area is very spacious and provides many amenities and comfortable seating. The bedrooms and bathrooms are tucked away towards the side rear of the home and are very cozy. We travelled with our toddler and it worked perfectly for everything we needed. Lori is also very responsive and accommodated us when we needed to check out a little later than planned. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area!

  • Lori was a great host and quick with her message replies. The house is nice and cozy. Comfortable beds. As the posting noted, the spot is located a short walk from Chenango Lake. Thanks for having us!

  • All I can say is "WOW!" We enjoyed a wonderful weekend - the home, property, & Lori's hospitality exceeded our expectations in every respect. First: Lori is a delightful host who met us upon check-in, showed us around, & had lots of useful, terrific info to share about the area & the home. The information sheet she left for us came in handy, was well-written, organized, & addressed any (& all) questions we had. Second: the home & property was IMMACULATE with so many high-quality appointments & amenities (comfortable beds, plush towels, cozy blankets, coffees/teas, firepit, lovely back deck, among others). Third: the incredible level of detail can't help but make guests feel COMFORTABLE & SAFE! From the motion-detector light on the garage that lights the driveway to EVERYTHING you could possibly want &/or need (batteries, candles, lanterns, games/puzzles, binoculars, corkscrew, real wine glasses, books, paper & real plates, a Pack n Play, & MUCH more!), we were THRILLED with the open floor plan & that there was no skimping on anything. If I were to ever be an Airbnb host, I learned a lot from this experience. We have friends in the area, so Lori's place in Norwich is a real find for us. I just hope after this stellar review I'll be able to reserve it again 😊.

You are invited to relax at my secluded 2-story Log Home, a peaceful getaway in upstate NY in Norwich. You will have access to 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, kitchen, a living room, dining room, a loft, and a wraparound deck. Set off a quiet road on 25 private wooded acres. This home, built in 2013, has traditional pine throughout the indoors with modern features, including the granite and stainless kitchen, with island. 37 mi to Cooperstown, 27 mi to Oneonta, and 10 mi to Gilbertsville Farmhouse.
Inside the 2,000 sq ft log cabin, the chef's kitchen is complete with granite countertops, hickory cabinets and stainless appliances, including refrigerator, range, dishwasher and microwave. Center island with seating for two provides ample work space, as well as a gathering place during meal preparations. The open concept from the kitchen combines the dining and living rooms on the first floor. A large dining table comfortably seats 6 and leather living room furniture (recliner, sofa and armchair) is centered around a wood burning stove and flat-screen TV with DirecTV, Xbox and Netflix, and library of DVDs. The first floor is complete with the master bedroom, which has a queen size bed, dresser, desk and closet, and full bathroom (accessed from hall, not an en-suite) with walk-in glassed shower and high efficiency washer and dryer. Light pine hardwood floors, walls, doors and ceilings throughout the living areas. Two sets of French doors open to the wrap-around deck, with picnic table for outdoor dining. Front door from the driveway and back door to the deck complete the main floor entrances. Up the half-log staircase there are two more ample bedrooms with queen beds, dressers and large closets, an open loft area with a sofa, chair and table for four, and full bathroom with a bathtub / shower. Bedding provided and additional in closets. Mountain views from the front bedrooms (master and 2nd bedroom) and wooded views from the back bedroom. All very quiet and secluded from every room! Fresh air outside and dairy farm next door! Please note the home does not have central A/C, but has several window units that can be used if needed. Not too often it is needed in this area, and the home stays very well insulated.
Set among rural farmland and rolling mountains, the log house is 14 minutes from downtown Norwich and near rte 8.
  • We had a fantastic girls weekend at Lynn's cabin. The cabin is very large and comfortable, with efficient heating and hot water, two full bathrooms, a working fireplace, and a large kitchen and family room for lounging, cooking, and spending time together. The views of sunrise/sunset over the nearby farm were pretty, and it was very quiet and peaceful. We had no trouble finding the cabin or checking in, everything was sparkling clean, and I feel completely satisfied with our experience. Highly recommended!

    Maria2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lynn’s log cabin home is a beautiful respite. The house is well-appointed, with super comfortable beds, a well-stocked kitchen, and a cozy living area. Lynn was incredibly responsive and her neighbor, who helps manage the home, was very helpful and nice. We had a great few days of resting, playing in the snow and exploring the property, and enjoying home cooked meals and movies by the fire (there is a large selection of Blueray/DVD, and though the TV is had Netflix, we weren’t able to get that working). The location is very private, with gorgeous views from the house, yet stores and amenities are within a 10 minute drive. I do think it’s important to note that the driveway in winter can be a bit difficult to navigate without a 4-wheel drive. (We got help from the neighbors to get us up there!). It was a great stay and I would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend away!

    Colleen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lynn’s cabin is an awesome getaway. Secluded, mountain views and a truly cozy space. We had a great time relaxing, cooking, and basking in the warmth of the wood stove on a snowy winter weekend. The cabin is fully equipped with all the amenities needed for your stay. Would definitely recommend for anyone staying in the area.

    Andrew2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful weekend at Lynn's beautiful cabin! It is very private and picturesque. It was very cold while we were there, so we were unable to enjoy the beautiful deck, but I'm sure it would be lovely in the warmer months. The beds were very comfortable! The kitchen was stocked with anything we needed, including coffee and K-cups. The WIFI did not work very well, but that can be expected in the area, and with the snowstorm we had. Lynn responded to any questions I had very quickly, and the check-in process using the lockbox was very easy. We would definitely stay here again!

  • Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a long weekend, drove all the way from Manchester by the sea, MA. (5.5 hour drive) and I can definitely say it was worth it! We both have very stressful jobs & busy and hectic work schedules and we were looking for something peaceful and cozy. Somewhere far enough away from home, that we really felt like we were away on vacation, but still driving distance. This place did not disappoint! It was such a warm, cozy place to really relax, shut off your phones, and enjoy yourself. The privacy was wonderful. But close enough to town, that you can go and grab some groceries. We had the wood burning stove going all weekend, and watched an array of movies! (Lynn has a wonderful selection of dvds, considering the tv was not compatible with Netflix) we had such a great time that last minute we decided to message Lynn and ask if we could stay another night. She gave us a discounted rate, and really was quick with any replies to questions or concerns that we had. We even found a place called animal adventure park, which was 45 min away in harpursville, NY. They had a Christmas light show with animals. We got to pet giraffes, goats, a yak, deer.... and even snuck a peek at a few sloths! (I cried) lol. I know this review is long but I really wanted to get my point across, to say what a wonderful experience we had! Well worth the $$ spent on the stay! Would recommend x10 :)

  • Lynn's home is in a beautiful part of up-state New York overlooking a tree flooded valley. Our group slept comfortably in the home with plenty of room for all 5 of us. Lynn was easy to work with and made an exception for our group which helped make the weekend a success for us. We did lots of cooking in the home and utilized the fully stocked kitchen without any issues. The only small knock was there was no firewood when we arrived and the pile in the yard was wet and uncut. We had to purchase an axe in the morning since there wasn't one available at the home to cut logs. Aside from that very minor issues we had a great stay and could tell that Lynn keeps the home very clean for her guests. Thanks again and we hope to be back soon!

  • Very peaceful setting with nice views. Driveway can be a little challenging on motorcycles.

    Robert2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay here. Place was very clean. Stayed quite cool at night, with air conditioners available if necessary. Saw deer most days, plus turkeys. Great outdoors space for kids to play.

  • Absolutely amazing, “one of a kind” stay at Missy’s upper cabin. We absolutely loved the location right on the water. We stayed in October when it was chilly but we were able to easily start a fire out back with their firewood which was such a plus! We also were able to fish right off the dock with their fishing poles after we got fresh bait a few miles down the road. We can’t wait to go back in the summer to enjoy the paddle boards. The cabin itself is beautiful. Missy has everything you need in a kitchen, even the small things that you don’t think to bring. It was very warm and cozy inside. We cannot wait to go back during the summer and may even check out their lower cabin with my family next door. Thanks Missy!

  • Missy's cabin was a perfect choice for a secluded, city escape! Communication before arrival was excellent and we felt very welcome and at home in the upper cabin. Seasonal treats were a nice and much needed surprise after the drive. Especially appreciated the automatic outside light which helped navigate in the dark. Would love to come back in warmer months to enjoy the lake and back yard.

  • Cozy and comfortable, it's home away from home. We love staying at the Signature! Cheri is a wonderful host!

  • We enjoyed our stay at Cheri's place very much. It is quite large and comfortable and very convenient if you are visiting in Gilbertsville. The refrigerator is stocked plus snacks and treats abound! We particularly enjoyed the home made pumpkin bread that Cheri had left for us! We would stay here again.

  • A lovely appartment with 2 bedrooms and an ample seating area. Very well suited for a family. There is breakfast available and a lovely kitchen with utensils that make you feel right at home. Cheri reacts very quickly. I had a wonderful time.

    Rickie2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third time staying at Cheri's, and won't be our last. It's the best place to stay in the area. Cheri thinks of everything and makes our stay very comfortable.

    Ashley2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was perfectly styled for the environment in which it sits. A quaint space in a gorgeous village with history inside the space and out. Do yourself a favor and read the names all over the beautiful quilt to feel yourself thrown back into time. Cell service is spotty in the village but the internet provided by the host was fast and easy to log in. I would recommend this stay to anyone looking to get out of the city and into a beautiful place with beautiful scenery. Not to mention the fact that the host responds quickly, is polite and easy to communicate with and who stocks all kinds of snacks (a godsend when you're absent minded and travelling with both a dog and children.

The Enchanted Room is quiet and secluded in our finished basement. It even has it's own private bathroom with a shower. Whether you are traveling for pleasure or business this is a home away from home to kickback and relax, rejuvenate, and reconnect. Also a place if you are seeking nature with all of its beauty and wildlife in a remote country setting.
Personal groups and small retreats are welcome. This is a quiet, respectful gathering place. Not a wild sorority house.
Country Crossing Bed & Breakfast resides in the rural area of Up State New York on 19 acres. Choose from 3 guest rooms in a country setting. Town is within 5-10 minutes driving time with plenty of services.

40 Minutes from the Baseball Hall of Fame, spend your weekend or all week at our 2 bedroom cottage on Chenango Lake. We're even closer to the All Star Village baseball facility in Oneonta. Plenty of room to loosen up your arm and play catch, sit by a campfire, sit by the lake, or just enjoy a peaceful setting. ATT service is very strong, Verizon is a challenge. 1 television with DirectTV is available in the cottage.
We've remodeled to be fresh but we kept the cottage in the woods theme. You'll love the feel and comfort of the inside and open spaces outside. Or you can sit on the 12 x 14 deck and just relax and watch the sunset. It's a comfortable and peaceful place just steps away from Chenango Lake
  • Cozy and quiet cottage located across from lake. Close to local amenities. Great place for rest, relaxation and enjoyment of the beauty of nature.

  • Lynn’s cabin was absolutely beautiful! It was super clean and the views were totally amazing. The beds were all comfortable. The kitchen was equipped with anything you would need. It was a quiet get a way in the country for sure. The only down side was that there was no working WiFi. Although this cut us off from the world it actually provided no outside distractions that made us enjoy our family visit even more. Thank you Lynn!

  • Beautiful house! My friends and I stayed here for two nights for a friend's wedding at the Gillbertsville farmhouse nearby. It was perfect, very close to the wedding venue, and the area around the house is just stunning. The house is lovely, spacious, had everything we needed and had a beautiful view from every room. Lynn was very helpful throughout the booking and check in process, thank you for a fabulous stay Lynn!

  • Never stayed in an RV before, was way bigger and more comfortable than I had anticipated. Really cozy place in a calm secluded area close to a beautiful lake. Way better experience than most hotels Ive stayed at and way better price. Owners were very nice and responded very quickly to messages.

  • This is a great place - we have never stayed in a trailer, and really didn't know what to expect, and it was surprisingly comfortable. There were just two of us, but the trailer could easily fit 5. There is a dining area, small kitchen and outdoor bar-b-que. We were visiting family at Chenango Lake, so we were walking distance, but it's only a 15 minute drive to Norwich. Cell phone coverage is hit or miss - between us, we have AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Only the AT&T phone had coverage. We hope to stay again

  • Corey's place was very relaxing, extreamly clean comfortable place. We enjoyed our stay very much. Corey's Dad came and put our awning up us and put it down when storms were coming in. We were working night shift and had absolutely no problem sleeping during the day. The neighbors were extremely quiet.

  • Magical Lake Chenonga! A lovely cottage nestled between woods & green space, and a two minute walk to lakeside. Enjoy the peace of nature relaxing out front or lakeside with the numerous options for places to sit, read, or just enjoy the birds & watch the squirrels. Unlimited use of watertoys was a perfect way to enjoy being on the lake. Grill, fire pit etc- it’s all there! For those that need it, the wifi is great & cable tv with all the channels. Peter was so welcoming with lots of delicious goodies awaiting our arrival. The cottage is so clean & comfortable- the perfect w/e for the two of us. Thank you Peter. We hope to come back again.

  • We loved our stay at this beautiful home. After arriving later than anticipated, I was thrilled to enter this beautifully decorated, comfortable and welcoming home. We had a busy weekend since we were attending a wedding in a neighboring town so the small touches were especially appreciated such as the variety of snacks, coffee, creamer, water bottles, etc. The location is private and beautiful. It is a perfect home to unwind and enjoy family time together. Thank you Peter and family for making our visit so enjoyable.

    Susan2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Peter's cottage is pretty, extremely clean, comfortably furnished and has good internet and TV. The cottage is small, but comfortable for the three of us and has a large deck, with two tables and many chairs, a favorite gathering place for us and for our brother who joined us each night for dinner. The cottage is set in a large, beautifully landscaped woodland setting. The feeling was utterly tranquil and a little bit magical. Peter is a lovely host, accommodating, attentive and generous.

  • We traveled to the area for a wedding at a local farm, and were pleasantly surprised at just how cute the cottage on the lake was. When we arrived (past midnight), we found the lights on for us and the pellet stove already working, making the place so cozy. The next morning we awoke to beautiful views of a pristine lake looking out through a wall of windows. The wedding we went to was beautiful, but it made the weekend even more special to be staying at this beautiful cottage. Thank you Mary and Tim for having us for the long weekend. Definitely worth the drive from nyc -andrea

  • My wife and I and two friends booked Mary's cottage for mid-winter getaway. The local area is very quiet and incredibly beautiful. The cottage itself sits right on the edge of Lake Chenango and is well appointed with everything you could need for a stay during any season. We particularly enjoyed huddling around the pellet stove and playing boardgames, watching the snowfall over the frozen lake. Highly recommend.
