Srijana is about 13 km outside the town of Tansen in the village of Hira Pokhara. Hira Pokhara is a small sparse village where you are more likely to encounter wandering cattle than a human. You room is in a traditional mud and wood house that once belonged to the village chief. The house is old style and the toilet/shower are outside the house. Activities Hiking The landscape is lush, rich and hilly, so hiking options abound. - A hike down to the river on the property takes about 2 hours. - On the hills above the farm is a well preserved community forest could be explored in as little as a hour or as many as 5. -In a 90 min circuit through the farm you can pay your respects to the chickens, cows and goats. - You can also take walks with our resident botanist to learn about the local flora and fauna - There are some great all-day and multi-day hikes with fantastic views of the Himalayas in the area as well. Farm Activites We are a fully operational farm and there is always something that needs doing. - Every morning at 6 AM cows needs to be milked. And you can join us to watch (or attempt it yourself) - Every Sunday the goats are strapped into a harness and weighed. - In weening season, some baby goats need to be bottle fed milk. It is a very cute sight :--) - We always need more holes dug to plant fruit trees in - And if you have skills like carpentry or working with milk products, we are always looking to learn techniques from other countries. Food and Drinks Since the farm is not close to very much this above price is per guest. For that amount you get 3 meals and all the homebrew liquor you want. About 60% of what you will eat is grown on the farm. And we are working hard to increasing that number. - We make our own cheese. We have been doing it for just a few months, but we are told we are doing it well - We brew and distill on our alcohol own as well, making chaing (rice beer) and raksi (spirit). For the latter we have used rice, millet and even plums. Our brews are included in the cost of the meal plan. - We have some recipes to make cocktails from scratch (with fruits picked from the farm) that you can try your hand at. The cocktails are included in the meal plan as well AND you have the pleasure of making them yourself. We promise you won't miss home while visiting us!

The chickens etc. are not eaten, they die of old age on the Farm. The farm animals also provide much subject matter for observation, especially Boozi, the young female monkey. If you hike with Rooz of the Mountain Inn, Boozi will accompany you on his shoulder, jumping on and off branches en route. ------------------------------- Games The Mountain Inn (by invitation only) regularly hosts the Pakhure Backgammon Championship of the World; guests can try their skill. Mountain-Mother Pilgrimage symbols are found everywhere around. ---------------------------------- Pilgrimage to Mountain-Mother Ramchay Looking across the valley from the Inn, the highest hilltop has a holy summit. This site is from the earliest ages in Himalayan history, and so multiple levels of experience are present. Similarly there are multiple aspects of the original divinity atop this peak. There is an element of education involved in this pilgrimage. From the Mountain Inn it is about a two hour climb to reach Ramchay. The first hour is mostly upwards on a forest buffalo trail. The second hour has more open air hiking, following a winding grassland-edged trail. On a clear day this is a perfect setting for a picnic outing. Bring incense. At the site of Ramchay mountain's Mother-Earth holiness, with her primal Rock-Mother near us on the summit, the view calls for a rest and relaxation to allow us to absorb her vastness and beauty attributes. Here another Himalayan practice of self-discovery is present, named Yantra meditation. In the Vedic period Ramchay was climbed in pilgrimage for the view of Annapurna. Described in the Mandala 5 Sukta 19 hymn, the centered upward pointing peak sitting in the center of Annapurna's “lap" is the focus for this visualization exercise. If you have an experienced outdoors confidence, the Mountain Inn will draw you a rough map of how to climb Ramchay. If you would feel more comfortable with a guide, the Inn will supply one. The point is that this experience contains things you can take home. ------------------------------- The Farm Animals and Boozi There are ducks, geese, chickens, rabbits, fish and the buffalo that provide the material for the fields to grow organic food. The fish pond has large catfish who are fed with rice and grains and are happy to fertilize their water so it can be drained onto the fields filled with good things for plant growth. The chickens etc. are not eaten, they die of old age on the Farm. The farm animals also provide much subject matter for observation, especially Boozi, the young female monkey. If you hike with Rooz of the Mountain Inn, Boozi will accompany you on his shoulder, jumping on and off branches en route. ------------------------------- Games The Mountain Inn (by invitation only) regularly hosts the Pakhure Backgammon Championship of the World; guests can try their skill. The winner gets a free glass of pure mountain spring water, warmed if requested. Then there is a gaming table that sits very colorfully against the beige tinted earthen covered walls: you may need to pinch yourself when you see it. Try your luck on days when you need a physical rest.
