Places to stay in Tolmie
Set on a private and secluded 10 acres at the foothills of the Wombat Ranges in Tolmie, this stone and mudbrick off-grid cabin backs on to the local state park and offers plenty of space for your family and pets to have a relaxing break. Explore the local area during the day at nearby Mt Buller, Mansfield or Lake Eildon. If you prefer, grab book and relax on the deck or take a wander through the state park. In the evening, light the fire and relax under the stars.
Just 25 minutes drive to Mansfield and approximately 45 minutes to the bottom of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling, altitude nine six one is ideally located for a relaxing break in the Victorian High Country while providing easy access for day adventures such as skiing, cycling, horse riding, 4WDing, wine tasting and much more. altitude nine six one is a self-contained, 3-bedroom cabin, sleeping up to 7 people (maximum 6 adults - top bunk is suitable for children only). The cabin has wood heating, a well-appointed bathroom and kitchen, and laundry facilities. Towels and linen are provided. There is also a Weber barbeque and outdoor dining table to enjoy al fresco dinner and drinks, a fire pit and undercover parking for two cars. altitude nine six one is off grid – solar power and rainwater tanks provide your electricity and water, with gas bottles for hot water and cooking. We do ask that guests be mindful of their power and particularly their water usage during their stay. WiFi is available but mobile reception can be patchy (Telstra is usually ok). We love dogs! altitude nine six one is pet friendly. Although the property is not fenced, there is a secure yard at the back of the house to keep your furry friend safe and sound while you’re out, and plenty of space for them to explore!
  • If your looking for a place to get away and want peace/tranquility , this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed by this amazing spot

  • Great place to stay it was great to be able to travel with the fur kids. A relaxing weekend spent off the beaten track in a beautiful part of the world

    Tanya2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Altitude 961 was just beautiful! We had the most amazing time and our dogs loved it even more! Luke and Meagan were incredibly quick at responding and made the whole trip very easy and relaxing. We’ve already started talking about our next visit!

    Kayla2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful part of Victoria- Altitude 961 is quite isolated (Tolmie Tavern good for meals) but a beautiful space. The wood heater is amazing. The house is powered by solar so there are limitations on use of electricity and because of tank water there are limitations on use of water which are all workable. It is a great pet friendly listing although for domestic pets senses will be in overdrive with the wonderful native animals and bird life around.

Private and secluded. The Hut is the perfect base for your King Valley break - adjacent to the King river, 9 km from Cheshunt and surrounded by mountains and rolling valleys.Complimentary breakfast supplies and toiletries provided.
The Hut is a quaint, small space, secluded and perfect for a private getaway.
The King Valley is becoming well known for its wineries and eateries. There are many outdoor attractions too such as Lake William Hovell,Paradise Falls and Powers Lookout.
  • Very peaceful location with comfortable accommodation. Would recommend

    Steve2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What you see in the photos is what you get, the hut is compact but spotlessly clean and very cosy with all the basic pantry supplies and a generous amount of other food goodies (best eggs we have ever tasted)

    Peter2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Hut was perfect and we are considering moving in full time. Small but just right for a weekend for two and the gardens are just superb. Jo is a fabulous host - there was milk bread eggs fruit and yoghurt in the fridge for us - which was just lovely. The King valley is simply one of the most gorgeous parts of Victoria and we had a fantastic time. Highly recommended!!

    Zoe2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Hut is fantastic Everything you want in a bush getaway! So peaceful and amazing. The beautiful touch of a fresh produce breakfast. Highly recommend. Will be heading back soon.

    Natalie2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely 2-day stay at The Hut. The breakfast items were much appreciated. It was very clean & the space, while small, was comfortable enough. The sound of the kookaburras and other birds were just a delight. The garden space is ample, but pls watch out for snakes, especially in hot weather. Jo did warn us of the occasional snake as the river is nearby. We spotted what looked like a copperhead snake near the vines. Due to the location of the Hut, there is no phone reception for Amaysim (Optus) and Telstra, which can be an issue when organising your trip, so plan which vineyards you want to visit before you arrive.

    Marjorie & Dylan2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jo's Hut is located in one of the most picturesque parts of King Valley, vineyards, farmland and waterholes surrounded by forested small mountains. It's a short drive to the lake and a short drive to christmont, polotinis and pizzinis. The Hut is small but doesn't feel claustrophic because the windows provide beautiful views. We enjoyed reading our books out on the lounge chairs and eating meals out on the deck using the Weber. The tv (with DVD and USB options) is small but situated close to bed so it's perfectly fine for watching movies. We really loved our stay :)

    Elizabeth2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful long weekend at Jo's hut. The grounds are so beautiful, you fall asleep and wake up to the sound of thousand birds, the air is pristine, and you are surrounded by space and a lovely garden. The hut is tiny, but this mattered not one bit to us. It has everything you may need, and the fresh bread, cereals, eggs, fruit, milk, and yogurt Jo left were a real nice touch. The place is impeccably clean and very cute. Jo was an excellent host and gave us some very useful tips for treks in the area. We definitely plan to return.

    Emma2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Elly and Peter were completely lovely! The apartment was perfect for us and our toddler, with lots of toys and things to keep her entertained. It was very clean as well. Elly and Peter went above and beyond to look after us and even provided us with fresh fruit from their orchard and cooked us a lovely breakfast of their fresh eggs. Our toddler loved meeting all of the animals and feeding them, it was the highlight for her! I’d definitely recommend staying here, and it’s a great base for exploring the area and the wineries.

    Hana2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Elly and Peter were delightful hosts, who clearly love where they live. The views are amazing and all the animals are adorable, we even got to help feed them! Their fresh produce is yummy. Clean and tidy amd everything as described. Would recommend!

  • A fabulous property. Relaxing and welcoming, with all the amenities you could want. The kids loved the goats and it feeding them was the favourite activity of each day. The location is fantastic - wandering through Mansfield or spending some time at Mirimbah, Jamieson or on the Howqua River is always recommended.

  • Vickie and Ed's 'View to a Hill' was a beautiful place to stay to visit family in Barwite over Xmas. They are exceptional hosts, and the house is gorgeous with lots of thoughtful touches to enhance our stay. The view is spectacular for sunsets on the deck and my teen-aged niece and nephew loved meeting and hand-feeding the goats! we'll definitely return - thanks Vickie and Ed! :)

  • Very well appointed. Very good design for young families. Hosts were friendly. The place is very tranquil.

    Dennis2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • We love love loved this stay! The house is so lovely and had everything we needed. The most amazing thing is the view and the sunsets were just so beautiful. Vickie and Ed are fantastic hosts that genuinely cared about not only our stay but our experience in this neck of the woods. We were given lots of suggestions of where to go and what to do. Hands down though, the goats and other animals were our favourite. They are such characters and were a source of great entertainment. The kids loved getting to feed them. What a beautiful part of the world this is and a really perfect spot to stay.

    Bec2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • With more windows than walls, all looking out to open land and farmers fields, this is truly a place to unwind. We spent a week here with our kids and it flew by. We are back in the city now and back at work but feel refreshed and renewed - more than we expected from just a 1 week break. Highly recommend.

    Joe2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • We would highly recommend Gayle’s place to anyone looking for a beautiful country stay in an idyllic garden setting. The unit is very spacious and comfortable with everything you need in the kitchen. Ww loved the koala visiting in the gumtree outsider the unit as well as all the bird life. Make sure you visit “The Oven Bakery” at Cheshunt for the wonderful food and wine.

  • The accommodation is very clean and modern, we were very well taken care of by Mick and Prue, they had a cot and high chair set up and even linen supplied for the cot, which we didn't expect. There was an amazing selection of breakfast items and fresh eggs. They have thought of pretty much everything to have a relaxed and comfortable stay. The property grounds are lovely to stroll around and feeding the alpacas was fun to do with our toddlers. We highly recommend Mick and Prue's place.

  • Gorgeous views. The photos don't do it justice. The espresso machine and other breakfast items were a lovely touch. Would definitely recommend it to others. We'll come back again

    Warren2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Mick & Prue. These guys are the perfect hosts - they were so very friendly and welcoming, also finding a way of disappearing too while still feeling close for any questions. The views and country setting is stunning. Our suite, on the ground floor beneath their home - fully equipped & independent, still manages 360 degree views and private outdoor setting. Communication through the app was unbelievably prompt at the various times we messaged. As for the property, what you see is what you get, Mick and Prue had prepared everything we needed and more. You should book this place - just not for the dates next year when we’ll likely return. Thanks again guys.

    Daniel2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Mick and Prue’s ‘Living the Dream’ accomodation is definitely the place to book - not only do you get a quaint place but they are superb hosts. Easy to talk to, provides good tips, very hospitable and gracious. Stayed at theirs for a snow weekend trip during my partner’s birthday with his parents and everyone loved being there. Accomodation itself has plenty of things to do and we wish we could’ve stayed longer to get to do all the things their place offers. Not only was the place clean, they’ve provided basic amenities and even breakfast. Everyone planning on going to Mansfield or Mt. Buller, this place is highly recommended!

    Cali2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Mick and Prue’s house is everything you need and more. Communication is the best I have had on Airbnb, very welcoming and helpful about the house and the surrounding areas. The house is extremely clean and very well designed. The kitchen has everything you need to live independently while away. Can’t wait to come and stay again :)

    Madeleine2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay with beautiful location and facilities.

    Michael2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Mick and Prue were FANTASTIC hosts. The house was gorgeous and they had a great welcoming. We did arrive at 8pm and they still gave us a great welcome. The house was warm (went in winter) and very clean with great breakfast that was provided including fresh eggs, milk, two types of juice, cereal and more! We woke up to snow which was even better. The two very friendly alpacas which were in the garden we were able to feed. What two beautiful animals. Mick and Prue were the best hosts we have ever stayed with. We even spent time with them having a drink. The property was is a great location 15 minutes outside Mansfield and would take an hour to get to Mt Buller. Will defiantly be going back

    Amanda2019-08-11T00:00:00Z

Comfortable and eclectic, this self contained one bedroom studio (one of three) has been built almost entirely from recycled and repurposed materials. The rustic style bathroom contains a shower and toilet and a heated towel rail. The bedroom has a double bed with the ability to sleep an additional person on a single bed in the loft (via a timber ladder). There is a TV and DVD player and reverse cycle air-conditioning to keep you cosy in winter and cool in summer. The views are magnificent - sit out on the balcony with a glass of local wine and view Mt Buller in the distance and the abundant wildlife literally on your doorstep. Linen and towels are provided.
There is an abundance of things to do in the area. The alpine areas of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling are only a short 20 minute drive away. If you enjoy mountain biking, bushwalking, great wine and food there is plenty for you to enjoy here.
  • Had a lot of fun staying here! Very unique place.

    Daniel2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location for me at the bottom of the mountain and super close to local communities. Loved the studio with its little extras. The balcony was great for a home cooked breakfast. Will stay again, highly recommend. Pete was always available for any questions about the area or just for good old chat.

    Craig2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I would certainly recommend staying at Pete’s place. From the outset, the communication was quick. The location was excellent being just out of Mt. Buller. The place itself was clean and tidy and well set out with everything you need, as evidenced in the photos. Pete gives plenty of advice on things to do in the area.

    Peter2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and comfortable. Impressed with how much effort Pete has made to make the places part of the environment.

    Linda2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful place! The lovely renovated kitchen & bathroom was well equipped, with thoughtful touches like shampoo/conditioner, moisturizer ample dishwashing detergent etc. The entire space was peaceful and relaxing; the big glass panels and windows brings you out into the outdoors, plus there was a cute little balcony, in which parrots and a cockatoo visited daily:) The whole place was truly such a treat! Loved it! Peter was also an attentive host. One piece of advice though (& nothing to do with Peter’s lovely country studio): ensure you have Telstra up in this area, as I had zero service with Optus bar SOS! (My gf, however, who arrived a day after had full service with her Telstra) . It made it tricky for me to stay in contact with my biking friends to make final plans, & my family. I also had sporadic service on Mt Buller too when mountain biking, prompting me to finally switch over to Telstra!

    Michelle2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay. Great host. Great vacation!

Studio made from recycled materials for that extra special added charm. Very tame rainbow parrot landed on balcony every night. Would definitely recommend. Perfect for cycling up Buller. Or can cycle mountain bike up and do Epic trail and finish up very close to studio. 10/10

My place is close to Mansfield with its plentyful facilities such as eateries, zoo, botanical gardens, regular markets and festivals; Mt Buller and Mt Stirling ski fields, Lake Eildon and the King Valley close by. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness of the cottage, the sensational views as well as a beautiful farmstay opportunity for young and old and your well behaved furry family members. Pets (2 max) requires approval from the host before your stay.
  • We had a lovely stay, the house was beautifully clean and the kitchen and bathroom were beautifully appointed. Both beds very comfortable. Amazing views, sitting on the verandah, cooking gorgeous local produce while the sunset over the mountains. A great experience.

La Casetta is a Mud Brick Country cottage with modern amenities. The cottage has a full kitchen, modern bathroom, queen sized bed, wood burning stove, split system air-conditioning & comfortable lounge. Large north facing windows lead to a spacious deck with umbrella, Chiminea and BBQ. Watch the sunrise over the Black Range, catch the sunset on the hills, star gaze at our amazing galaxy on clear nights, unaffected by city noises or lights & bring your furry friend, they will thank you for it!
We have a 5 acre property located at the head of the beautiful King Valley and La Casetta is an original mud brick cottage which overlooks our lower paddock. You are likely to see our Dorpa sheep, our neighbors cows, any one of our 4 dogs, a few chooks and the odd kangaroo. The sun will rise into your large front windows while the Kookaburras serenade you. You can sit on the front deck overlooking this view while having a steaming cup of coffee or a glass of the local wine.
The King Valley, once Victoria's tobacco hub, is home to award-winning wineries, great pubs and fine dining restaurants. When the big tobacco companies closed down the tobacco industry in this lush, green valley in Victoria's North East, some three hours from Melbourne, the Italian immigrant tobacco farmers turned to what they knew best – food and wine. Although the industry wound up in 2006, many tobacco growers saw the writing on the wall decades earlier and diversified into grapes. Today the King Valley is a food and wine destination. Dining Up near the far end of the King Valley, where the bush-cloaked hills begin to close in and the old tobacco sheds give way to abandoned hop plantations, is the new ultra-modern Chrismont restaurant and cellar door at Cheshunt. Cool and white, with clean lines, this large building hunkers down into the hillside, looking onto the vineyards, to the valley floor below and up to Powers Lookout, once the lair of a bushranger known as Ned Kelly's mentor. Inside Chrismont is the cellar door and produce store where you can buy preserved and pickled fruit and vegetables and almond nougat reflecting owners' Arnie and Jo Pizzini's Italian heritage. In the restaurant, either inside by the fire in winter or out on the huge covered deck on those perfect High Country days, it's a casual Italian menu of simple ingredients cooked truly beautifully. Further downstream is the little town of Whitfield. It has a general store, garage, a very good cafe (The Whitty Cafe), cop shop and the Mountain View Hotel. This old boozer dates back to the 1860s and is built next to a culvert, dug by Chinese during the Gold Rush, which sent clean water to their market gardens on the river flats. It flows cool and clear through the beer garden giving al fresco dining a zen-like quality. The staff at Mountain View are mostly European; high-level chefs and sommeliers from Italy. There is fresh local beer flowing through the taps in the bar and the now famous 1kg schweinshaxe – or roast pork knuckle with loads of potato salad and trimmings served at the bar. The pub has launched a new Italian inspired menu which is bright, tasty and good value. A short stroll down the road is Dal Zotto Wines. Northern Italian immigrant Otto Dal Zotto is the man who introduced the Italian sparkling wine prosecco to the Australian wine industry. It was a wine he fondly remembered drinking as a young man in his home town. Try the different proseccos in the cellar door as well as the other Italian varietal wines such as sangiovese and barbera. His family's trattoria sits on the King River flats, surrounded by river red gums and looks out onto the vineyard and the hills beyond. The dining room is built in rustic corrugated iron to reflect the style of an old tobacco shed on the vineyard. The dishes are Italian family favourites starting with prosciutto pizza, there could be a ragu of lamb with homemade gnocchi or a pan-seared Milawa duck breast. Check out Nonna Elena's vegetable garden, where a lot of the veg for the kitchen comes from, or have a game of bocce after your meal. Down by the river flats where the King veers towards the Ovens River at Oxley is a stylish, squat cement brick building that seems to meld into the landscape and surrounding river forest. This is Sam Miranda cellar door and restaurant. Try the wines and see what museum stock is on offer in Pop's Cellar. The food is classic, wine-friendly bistro-style dishes with perhaps a pork and chicken terrine with some house chutney, followed by a Stone's Throw eye fillet, a steak sourced from the beef herd grazing a stone's throw from the dining room. Newly open is the King Valley Dairy. This is the Myrtleford Butter Factory that outgrew its home and had to find somewhere else. Expect good butter, cake and coffee with meals. Cellar Doors Young Joel Pizzini is really embracing his Italian roots and making some truly remarkable nebbiolo at Pizzini Wines. While distinctively different from the Italian incarnations of this grape, his wine making is definitely informed by the great Barolo wines of the Piedmont. The cellar door is home to Katrina Pizzini's A Tavola cooking school. If you have never tasted saperavi before then drop by Trevor Knaggs at King River Estate at Whitfield. He makes this Georgian grape variety using biodynamic vineyard and winery techniques with minimum intervention. Some wine reviewers think it is one of the best examples in the country. The cellar door is an old milking shed and the vineyard and grounds are kept in immaculate condition. While the Pizzinis are from the north, the Politinis are from the south of Italy. They are known for their value-for-money table wines offering the Sardinian white variety vermentino and the Sicilian red Nero d'Avola with tastings done for Politini Wines served in their (licensed) garage under their home at Cheshunt. Glen Merkel grows his grapes up in Myrrhee, a little bit off the beaten track, so bought the pub at Moyhu in the Valley where you can taste his Merkel Wines German-style riesling and gewurztraminer. Since he and his family have renovated the beautiful old pub it's gained a new lease of life serving great pub grub and pouring delicious wines. Brown Brothers have been making wine at Milawa since 1889 and although at the tail end of the King Valley much of their fruit is grown in the further up the Valley. The historic property has a very professional cellar door and a very good restaurant, Patricia's Table. But this is not the end, you can also try Gracebrook Winery and Bistro, Red Feet Winery, Francessco Winery, Symphonia Winery, Darling estate Winery or cross the Black Range to Myrtleford and Beechworth and a hundred other wineries and eateries. We are in paradise here, spoilt for choice. Come join us...... This story has been plagiarized from an article by Richard Cornish Travellers Table: The King Valley in GOOD FOOD June 2016 ;)
  • Fabulous location and fabulous accommodation

    Julie2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was just perfect. What stood out were the little touches, like a well-stocked cookie jar, freshly picked herbs in the kitchen and a beatiful rose on the nightstand. All the essentials were well covered, and plenty of luxurious thoughts as well, like a snuggly throw on the couch, eggs fresh from the chook pen and no TV, a luxury which is easy to forget! Can't reccomend this place more highly, Alan & Rowena will think of everything you need before you do. But you can cenrtainly ask for pretty much anything, as well.

    Susan2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding hosts, outstanding accommodation, outstanding value... this was our second stay at one of our favourite places in the world - no exaggeration!

    Josh2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Alan & Rowena’s place is awesome. So chilled, perfect location and everything you need for a couples weekend away. Great access to all the local wineries, pub, brewery etc... and there dogs were so great. You can even go get some freshly laid eggs for breakfast from the back garden, and Alan went and got us some freshly baked local bread 👍 highly recommend this place, we will certainly be back 😊

  • Such a secluded and relaxing gem. Minutes from 4 or 5 of the best wineries in King Valley. Super comfortable and well appointed cabin with so many great personal touches and extras. Alan and Rowena are excellent and knowledgeable hosts and their dogs adopted us in seconds.Just an awesome escape.

    Brett2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Allen and Rowena were super welcoming. Their place is very homely and comfortable, with lots of considerate touches. The setting is gorgeous. We found them to be wonderful hosts who very kindly shared their local knowledge with us. A great spot.

    Jessica2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • La Casetta is the perfect little home for your winery escape. A beautiful setting surrounded by bushland to walk or ride. A short drive to local wineries & brewery, quiet location, pool, friendly dogs to brighten your morning & a great selection of board games available to reignite some old school rivalry. We highly recommend this location If you're looking for a quiet getaway with a loved one.

    Bree2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at La Casetta and we loved it just as much as the first! Alan and Rowena have set up the space to be cosy and relaxing, with so many thoughtful touches. It's such a peaceful spot and we took advantage of the many wineries within a short drive. We also enjoyed the company of their four beautiful dogs (as did our own little dog!) - overall a lovely experience. Thanks!

King River Cabins is located in the heart of the valley, with amazing views over the King River. A private and secluded cottage, perfect for a weekend getaway, only 2km from Whitfield. Newly renovated interior, with modern amenities and a rustic exterior. The perfect place to enjoy a vino as the sun goes down.

  • A great stay for a single or couple wanting to explore the area. A very clean and comfortable space wine some lovely touches to make you feel special. The views from the verandah were great and Chas, the host was friendly and welcoming.

  • Such an amazing place! Views are spectacular. Quiet and clean. Host is very nice. Would recommend over and over again. Great place to enjoy some wine and cheese from the region!

  • Our weekend stay at Chas’ place was absolutely spot on. The location and views are great - we easily rode to several wineries and the brewery in the day from Chas’ place, with plenty of time for stops, tastings, lunch and even a little snooze! The cabin was spotlessly clean and so well organised. Chas provided great foodstuffs for breakfast and we thoroughly enjoyed taking coffee and breakfast on the front porch each morning watching the sun creep up the far side of the valley and listening to the birdsong. Chas was always responsive and really couldn’t have done anything more to make our stay fantastic. Coffee machine is a plus, the shower was good and hot and for a one bedroom cottage it felt very spacious. We couldn’t recommend Chas’ place, or a stay in the King Valley, highly enough. Thanks Chas!

  • We had an amazing weekend in the King Valley staying at the cabin. The views from the verandah are beautiful, and Chas's local reccomendations did not dissapoint. Check-in was stress free, the cabin is well presented and has everything you need.

    Erin2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed here on his birthday and we absolutely loved it. We had lunch at Chrismont winery down the road, and there were many other beautiful wineries right near the cabin as well. The views from the deck are superb, and we spent a long time soaking in the countryside from the comfort of the hammock. You're a couple minutes walk away from a lovely little creek, and we saw some kangaroos in the nearby paddock. Lots of beautiful birds in the area too, saw 4 kookaburras! Chas is a lovely host and thought of so many careful touches like providing dairy free yogurt for my partner and I (we're vegan) and complimentary wine/breakfast foods. If you want to explore gorgeous wineries and come home to a clean, beautiful bush sanctuary, this is your spot. Thanks again Chas!

Beautiful secluded spot 30 mins from Mansfield. Spacious one bed room house situated on 30 acres. Lovely spot all year round. Snows occasionally in winter. Wildlife is plentiful, deer, kangaroos, echidna and various birds. *oven currently not in use, there is a portable toasting over. There is no shooting on the property or the neighbours. The Mansfield State Forest borders the property where shooting is allowed. During winter and wetter months a 4WD is recommended to navigate the driveway.
  • Gorgeous surroundings. Nothing better than sitting in front of the fireplace with a glass of red.

  • Our stay at Foxhill was great. I highly recommend this place if you’re after a lovely getaway from the hustle and bustle. A very quiet, peaceful location up on the hill. We were visited by deer & kangaroos every dusk and dawn, and loved that we were quite literally up in the clouds. Although my partner and I never met Peta, she was a great host & was very responsive. The place was tidy, bed was comfy, and the lounge room was super cosy with a fire going. Half an hour out of Mansfield which was nice & easy. Definitely need to have a 4WD to get up the drive in winter months - nice and muddy. Pack your boots! Thanks again Peta! 😊

The Cottage is a gorgeous stone and mud brick, two bedroom ‘yurt’ shaped (round) cottage. It is completely self-contained and is located on a privately owned, 10 acre property in Barwite, that is only a 15 minute drive from the heart of Mansfield and an approx 45 minute drive to the car parking areas on Mt Buller. The Cottage offers affordable, modern, quality accommodation for up to 4 people. Bedroom 1 has a queen size bed. Bedroom 2 has two single beds. The bathroom is adjacent to both bedrooms. There is an open plan living/dining room with TV/DVD/stereo and a slow combustion wood heater. The kitchen has everything you need with gas cooktop and microwave oven cooking facilities. Reverse cycle air-conditioning. Quality linen/towels etc. There is a pretty, private garden with a Webber BBQ, outdoor setting and stunning views over the surrounding valleys to the mountain ranges. Off street car parking. Full breakfast supplies are provided.
The attractions of the High Country are not limited to the snow ski season. Winter, summer, autumn or spring, there’s always something exciting to do in the High Country. Alternatively you can simply relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery, play a round of golf, have a game of tennis or go for a bush walk. The Mansfield Shire is renowned for its natural beauty and alpine mountains. Significant landscape features include Mount Buller, Mount Stirling and the Great Dividing Range. Natural environment features include parts of Lake Eildon and Alpine National Parks. Valleys of the Howqua, Delatite and Goulburn Rivers are also significant landscape features in the Shire. The areas are in high demand for recreation and lifestyle activities. Come to the High Country and find yourself in a land where legends ride. Of course these days, those legends are as likely to be on a mountain bike, in a four wheel drive or on skis rather than on horseback. But legends they remain. So what is it about this place that brings out the best in people? Well, for a start, its beautiful, rugged mountains, rolling snow plains, rushing rivers, gentle lakes and sweeping grasslands make for an ever changing, ever lovely backdrop. But inspiring views are just the beginning of the story. Here, the warm climate and varied terrain mean that life is lived to the fullest outdoors. Whether you’re a skier, a horse rider, a cyclist, a fly-fisherman or just a sunworshipper, the High Country will call you to adventure. And yet, adventure isn’t the only thing that keeps people coming back. Life is good here. Festivals fill the air with music and colour. There are local wines to taste, local gourmet produce to enjoy and local beers to try, brewed from pristine mountain waters. However, the most appealing aspect of the High Country is its spirit.
  • We had such a fantastic stay! The sunsets were a real special treat and the breakfast supplies warmly welcomed. Beautiful spot and lovely hosts.

  • The cottage it’s so much better than on the pictures attached (and as you can see the pictures are so good). It’s absolutely amazingly charming cottage :) I could not recommend it highly enough.

    Sylwia2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is ideally located for day trips to explore the area (Mt Buller, Wombat Ranges, Mansfield). The cottage is full of light and its round shape makes it feel really spacious. Gorgeous stone floors; timber beams - it has a real sense of warmth. Friendly hosts and animals.

    Graham2019-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage in Barwaite was a lovely place for a family weekend away. We travelled with a 1 year old who was overjoyed with the fluffy friendly cows waiting at the property fence each morning, which the owners showed us how to hand feed. We completely relaxed in the tranquil settings with picturesque views and by the lounge room fire each evening. The owners provided fresh Milk and other breakfast items and there was a cot and high chair set up and waiting for us upon arrival. Perfect. The location is a little disconnected from town, Mansfield being approx 15 min drive, although that wasn’t an issue for our stay. Our only negative feedback was the mattresses in each room are too soft and soggy to be comfortable, so we didn’t have a very good sleep. Otherwise it was the perfect weekend away and we’d love to come back.

A converted tobacco kiln, now an historic building, very unique, quirky and fully self contained. Very close to several of the King Valley wineries which include Chrismont, Dal Zotto, Pizzini, Politini, Francesco, Corsini's , King River Brewers and others. King River borders our property. Power's Lookout is directly above us. Paradise Falls and Lake William Hovell are just a short drive.
The iconic shape of these old tobacco kilns will be remembered long after your stay with us. Quirky touches throughout. Clean, comfortable and fully self contained with kitchen and laundry facilities. Upper bedroom has balcony with views and antique brass bed with lux mattress. On the historic Glenmore which was once the home of James Quinn who was Ned Kelly's grandfather. We have several walking/nature tracks on the farm. Our 3 accommodations are all stand alone buildings.
Beautiful narrow valley, flanked by the Power's lookout Reserve on the West side and the pristine waters of the Upper King River on the East side. Quiet rural farming community scattered with vineyards and wineries and great places to eat.
  • This is an absolutely gorgeous place to stay. The warm hearts of the hosts speak in the details of the kiln conversion and the lovely welcome.

Gina and Marko are wonderful hosts, being both friendly and informative. The property is beautiful and there are lovely amenities for guests to use such as a BBQ, covered outdoor area and riverside table and chairs for those wishing to picnic close to their accommodation.

  • What an absolutely great place! Beautiful historic charm with all the modern amenities you need. Two adorable little dogs to boot :-)

  • A lovely, secluded, character-full cabin, kitted out with all mod cons. Excellent canine welcoming committee. Great location for various activities, and close enough to the surprisingly buzzy town of Mansfield for a nice meal, a coffee and cake, or a craft beer.

  • Peaceful and clean. A taste of country life.

  • One of my favourite experiences on airbnb. The location and this little home are beautiful. The home was tidy and incredibly comfortable and warm. Close to Mt Buller (where we snowboarded) and close to Mansfield. We loved the little touches of flowers and the visits from the dogs and cat. Highly recommend staying here!

  • This a very comfortable house in a beautiful location. Everything we needed was provided including ample kitchen equipment. We enjoyed the fabulous sunsets and starry skies, as well as the spacious and sparkling clean interior. Plenty of room and (fortunately) excellent air conditioning. Many thanks Natasha for your hospitality and very helpful advice.

  • Great place will be back for sure

    Andrew2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • The house was lovely, user friendly, and very clean. The views were really amazing and the location was also great for a nice quiet getaway. The change to the house rules via email a few days before we were due to stay was a bit disconcerting, and the repeated reiteration of common sense rules (e.g. no wet shoes in the house) made us feel unwelcome and untrusted which was disappointing. Overall though, a pretty good experience.

    Caitlin2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Natasha's place for a skiing weekend at Mt Buller. Her place is gorgeous and very well set up for families, couples or groups of friends to spend a relaxed or adventurous weekend in the Alpine region.

This little house is perfect for two, guests tell me the queen bed is very comfy! The sofa bed is roomy enough for one extra or a couple of kids ($20 per extra person) The house is tucked up in my backyard, it's private, but we'll be in our own home nearby for anything you may require. The house does not have an airconditioner, just a pedestal fan.
The one bedroom has the comfy queen bed, bedside tables and lamps, side table and mirror. The main room offers you a double sofa, big tv, heater, kitchenette with sink, fridge, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and microwave. The spacious bathroom has a heated towel rail, large shower, toilet and vanity. A new addition has just been completed - you now have your own deck with bbq!
The neighborhood is quiet, however it is residential therefore you may hear neighbours lives...i.e. backyard games or music.
  • This is a perfect little couple’s getaway spot. Gorgeous bathroom and some little extra touches such as a coffee machine and fresh butter made it even more special!

Monbollok is a farm stay experience that combines a rustic tin shed cottage with the mod cons of an ensuite bathroom. Come and enjoy the large wood heater set in the middle of your cottage and see the spectacular views of Mount Buller and surrounds. Our property has an abundance of local wildlife, think kangaroos, echidnas and kookaburras to name a few and a variety of domestic animals that you can also choose to interact with - cats, dogs, goats and chickens.
At Monbollok we are pleased to offer you an authentic farmstay experience, that includes fresh eggs from our hens, homemade treats and tidbits such as jams, cordials and biscuits. We want you to leave the city behind you and embrace country life and all it has to offer. Monbollok is 15 minutes from the main street of Mansfield and 50 minutes (minus snow) to the top of Mount Buller. The perfect get away for couples and families to enjoy the Victorian High Country. Minimum 2 night stay, Continental breakfast available upon request (extra charge)
Our property is rural, but not in the middle of nowhere. Views abound, and you won't have to look far to see kangaroos. If you go for a walk, you are likely to spot a wombat or two at the bottom of our property, and you may even see the odd echidna.
  • Such a cute little shack in the countryside! Really enjoyed our stay... And I think anyone that loves animals would! The dogs are gorgeous big spoke and I already miss them (Esp the rotty)! Could easily have stayed the full week to fully relax and just enjoy nature!

Incredibly comfortable beds and linen, well stocked fridge and cupboards with generous little hamper on arrival - David even lit the fire so it really was a warm welcome. Beautiful surrounding landscapes. We bought our two young girls with us and we were entertained with plenty of board games and books in the cupboard . The gardens and the pasture are very beautiful to take in. We enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing with our family as well as having our breakfast together at the dining table. Do not pass up an opportunity to visit Urrimbirra. Thank you David and Christine.

The instructions were very clear, good communication, the house was kept clean, bed was especially nice with an electric blanket, having a fire in the house gave it a perfect lodge like feel. There were small touches that we found very thoughtful and considerate. We'd definitely stay again. Thank you David and Christine. :)

The attention to detail is amazing, with a large bath, great shower (sound system in the bathroom!) and a super comfy bed with beautiful views. The animals made my stay, so friendly and loving. Fantastic and quick communication from the hosts and the breakfast was a great touch. Can’t recommend this place enough, will be back!

  • Our stay at Martina and Case's place was lovely - they are great hosts. Their property is beautiful and although the space is quite small, it has everything we needed for a short stay to visit relatives in the area over Xmas (especially the air-con in Summer!). Martina and Case were very accommodating and all responses were quick and helpful.

Mansfield is very much a tourist town featuring a wide range of accommodation and vibrant cafes, restaurants and stores. Closeby, enjoy the ski resort of Mt Buller, cold climate wineries, Lakes Nillahcootie and Eildon suitable for fishing, barbecues, picnics, swimming and boating activities.
  • Jenny's farm is at the top of a hill and the views are beautiful! We were a family of 4 adults and two children and there was a perfect amount of space. Jenny let us collect our own eggs from the chickens in the morning, which was wonderful. We enjoyed walking around the property in the early morning and evening - so many lovely roses everywhere! The house itself was very well appointed with a full kitchen, two showers and even a spa bath (there may be an earwig or two hiding in the holes - country life!) If you're city bred, like me, you'll definitely enjoy the billions of stars at night! 😍

    Deepti2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is one place you really have to visit, the view's are spectacular, if you are a rose lover you can immerse yourself in the beautiful rose garden, This is one place where you can watch the sunrise and sunset which is just breathtaking.

  • Our stay at Jenny's place was fantastic. The cottage is well appointed, with absolutely stunning views of Mt Buller and nearby ranges. The home is really clean with comfy beds. The setting is gorgeous and it has a really great swimming hole. Great place to take our dog, he loved it just as much as us. We would stay again in a heart beat.

We had a fantastic time wandering along the river, lazing on the veranda and playing card games with the kids. I couldn’t recommend Andrew’s place more highly and we hope to come back again.

Howes Creek Town Hall is a historic Mechanics Institute, 15 Minutes from Mansfield, 5 minutes from Goughs Bay (Lake Eildon) and 45 minutes from the top of Mt Buller. The B&B has a separate entrance, with a loft bedroom and open plan kitchenette and living room. Our property is surrounded by hundreds of picturesque acres of farmland, hills and mountains. It is a still, breath of fresh air away from hectic city life. Gaze at the stars as you drift off to sleep and wake up and listen to the birds.
We are a young family who strive towards balanced work/ life commitments and who are striving towards a more self sustaining lifestyle. We have a large veggie garden, bake our own bread and are learning the art of preserving. There are fantastic local restaurants and great outdoor recreation activities close at hand (mountain biking, skiing, boating, paddling, hiking, rail trail or just enjoying the local surrounds)
Howes Creek farm is a lovely little farm just down the road that serves simple food and wine. They are doing dinners on a Friday night but be sure to book.
  • Suzanne and Paul’s place was lovely. They were communicative hosts and we had all the info needed. The apartment was clean and well equipped. As the host’s house shares a wall with the apartment, I did get woken up by the sound of them walking up/down the stairs in the morning so if you’re a sensitive sleeper (I am) then I’d suggest earplugs!

  • The trip up to King Valley exceeded all of my expectations thanks to Sharon and John. I initially planned the trip to have a look around at King Valley as my father had some fond memories of this beautiful place as a child. His grandfather owned a farm in King Valley but he always had difficulty finding the property due to old landmarks no longer existing. However, after talking to Sharon and John, I was amazed by their historical knowledge of the King Valley region and before I knew it they had old historical booklets that provided me information about my family. Within a matter of minutes Sharon made a few phone calls and discovered where my great grandparents once lived. The following day, Sharon and John drove me out to the property. I was literally lost for words. The yurt also exceeded my expectations. It was set on top of a mountain with the most breathtaking panoramic views. The yurt has all the facilities that you could possibly want for a relaxing and comfortable stay. I can’t wait to return!

  • Quiet, peaceful and relaxing one of the most beautiful parts of Victoria. The house is easy and comfortable, a charming 1950's style place, with a wood bar-b-q and fire, and wonderful black cows watching our every move across the fence.

  • We have visited some amazing places in the world and been fortunate to stay at some fantastic hotels & B&B’s. On both counts this trip is up at the top of the list. The accomodation and location is 5 star. What is more, the friendly approach from Marco & Gina made us feel like old friends having a visit. The hospitable nature is something a 5 star hotel cannot match. Thank you, we will definitely come back! Marco & Nikki

  • The location is to die for! The house felt like home, would love to stay again.

  • We loved the versatility of this accommodation which was cleaned to a very high standard and able to comfortably accommodate four couples. Gina’s communication was exceptional although I would have loved a location map to guide us to the house more specifically. Little touches like a fresh bottle of milk and a bottle of Proseco were also appreciated. The property backs onto a river which we enjoyed in the morning and was easily assessible through the back gate and the surrounds were spectacular.

Historic Cottage in an idyllic setting. The cottage is only metres away from the iconic Howqua River. Unique features with absolute luxury. It is small and intimate, perfect for the romantic getaway or a fisherman's weekend.
  • A lovely part of the world to generously be sharing. Highly recommended

  • Andrew’s place was outstanding, the location is so lovely being right on the river and the amenities were first class. We took our dogs who were more than welcome and they had an absolute ball. There were thoughtful touches all throughout the cottage that make for the most pleasant stay and Andrew was a lovely host. We would love to come back another time.

  • The Miners Cottage was luxurious with a lovely big spa, wood fire, and high quality linen. This was our second visit and we really enjoyed our stay again. The setting is especially lovely as it’s beside the Howqua river.

  • A stunning getaway. Your own private cottage (which is well appointed), amongst the trees and river. The Oak out the back is particularly spectacular. We will be back.

  • My hubby myself and my two doggos had the best time ever! Loved everything about the place. The cottage has this rustic look with the most gorgeous cosy room inside with jacuzzi. You can simply enjoy a glass of wine lying in your bathtub and admire the beautiful scenery from the window. The sound of the river flowing, birds chirping and the stars in the sky at night is simply priceless. Thank you Andrew for being a wonderful host and maintaining this place so well. I would love to come back:)

  • Sometimes all you need is a little luxury, a little tranquillity, the sound of running water to revitalise the soul. This wonderfully renovated historic miners cottage is a real gem; perfect for summer and winter escapes. Absolutely loved our 3 nights at River Downs - and would recommend to anyone that enjoys getting back in touch with nature with a splash of comfort and luxury
