  • Thank you Hiro for taking care of this week. Because the house is some distance from the station, Hiro will pick us up by car during check-in and check-out. Hiro ’s century-old house is very Japanese, although it is cold in winter, but the quilt is thick enough. It's still very warm. The two families and the two children are a little bit noisy, affecting the life of Hiro and his wife. Thank you for not disgusting us, and for sending us air-dried persimmons to taste. It is delicious and sweet .. Thank you

  • Superb spot. Such a nice change and place to crash to see real Japan country side and quiet get away from the crazy rush the hustle of Japan bigger cities. Great hosts beautiful countryside living. Definitely would come back for summer again!

  • It’s the first time I met a Japan local family. And it’s a great family with friendly guests. It’s a great experience.

  • Two nights with a friend. I used it because I thought it was an interesting experience not found in ordinary inns, but as expected, I had a good evening with a couple in a nostalgic old private house, which was a wonderful memory. I want to use it again.

    Moeko2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • It is a valuable inn where you can stay in a good old Japanese traditional house. The building is old, but it's a cold local building so it's cooler and more comfortable than you might think.

    安井2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • You can spend with peace of mind in a fairly fine building and attentive maintenance. From check-in to check-out, there was nothing confusing or frustrating. A hotel that can be highly recommended. In the case of a car, once you look at the map and prepare properly, you can reach it in one go. It may be severe only with navigation.

    Yohei2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • The two nights I stayed at Hiro's house was a very wonderful experience, and it completely fulfilled my expectations of Japanese rural life. Dongyu is a very quiet and comfortable place. Hiro's house is quaint and welcoming, and the details are very cute and artistic. The kimono in winter is warm. Thanks to Hiro and his wife for the warm hospitality. My child played with toys in the house and stone clay in the outdoor farmland, which caused a lot of trouble for the landlord. But he had a good time and felt joy that was not experienced in the city. Thanks again.

At first, I was a little worried about staying at a private house, but since that time, I was able to rest assured that I was able to respond quickly and politely. The room is well-cleaned and you can spend it with your children in peace. The location was good and comfortable.

Twenty five years ago In the middle of Bessho Onsen we renovated an old Japanese house and created Earthworks Gallery to show our ceramic works and works of other artists. Behind the gallery across the garden there is an old, empty silk-worm farmhouse which came to us by chance over a year ago. We have renovated the house ourselves and one year later the Earthworks Guest House is now available. In this charming old hot spring town with its famous history and beautiful shrines and temple, we wish this to be a meeting place for world travelers as they experience the beauty of Japan. See you in Earthworks Guest House!
Bessho Onsen (別所温泉) is a small hot spring resort town just outside of central Ueda City in Nagano Prefecture. During the Kamakura Period (from 1192 to 1333), it served as the headquarters of the governor of the Shinshu Region (today's Nagano Prefecture), who built temples and brought Kamakura culture to the mountain town. This made Bessho Onsen into a prosperous center of education and religion, and in turn earned the town the nickname "Kamakura of Shinshu". Bessho Onsen is the oldest recorded hot spring in the region. Its sulfurous waters have long been regarded for their healing properties and are said to have healed the arrow wounds of warriors who bathed in them. There are three small traditional public bath houses found around town that offer visitors a chance to experience the atmosphere of a small neighborhood hot spring bath. For larger baths and more amenities, head to the Aisome no Yu public bath house at the entrance of the town.
  • Rumi is very nice and warm person! She told us how to look around in Bessho and took a breakfast reservation for us. You don’t have to worry about visit Bessho with her! In their house, there were many things created by hosts. Clean, comfortable and warm place. Visit their shop, too!

  • A wonderful Japanese style super comfy space with great access to a full kitchen and amenities. Such a lovely space we only wish we had stayed longer. A beautiful makeover of an old silk factory, lots of beautiful exposed wood and a peaceful vibe.

  • What a beautiful house to spend some time away from the city. Great place , lots of thing to see and do, and the hospitality was amazing, Rumi welcomed us with kindness and gave us lots of information about the local town and even set up a time for us to eat at a local restaurant which by the way was amazing not only the food but the cooks, locals, and owner, we felt like we where part of this small town. All in all it was a great experience and will most definitely do it again. Thank you Rumi and Roberto!!

    Emanuel2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Rumi and Roberto are excellent hosts, the town Bessho Onsen its amazing and the guest house its beautiful and full of art, me and my girlfriend enjoyed a lot staying there, you have onsen baths and places to eat a few steps from the place, Rumi will make you feel welcome and give you advice of where to eat and places to visit in town, fully recommend :)

  • Had a wonderful time at Rumis&Roberto's Guesthouse , a very authentic Japanese house! We didn't get a chance to meet Rumi because she was on a trip, but Roberto was an incredible host! Definitely the best experience we've had on Airbnb! Definitely recommend and we hope to come back soon!

  • Rumi and Roberto’s guest house was amazing! We were warmly welcomed by Rumi on the day of our check in. She also arranged our breakfast and recommended a lot of local sightseeing spots. We loved the artistic touches in the guest house, and her gallery was worth a visit too! Thank you so much your warm hospitality, and we would love to come back again!

  • A hidden gem in the foothills of the mountains. The space is fantastic - a multiple bedroom guesthouse with great amenities, and a typically beautiful traditional aesthetic. Very spacious compared to the rest of our Japan stay. It's day trip distance from Nagano and surrounding areas, which is also wonderful. The town and surroundings are stunning - quiet, but very beautiful. Temples, onsens (be prepared to go naked, as they are traditional), hikes, wilderness. We wonderful bakeries, restaurants and izakayas - everyone very friendly and accommodating - not least of which Rumi and Roberto. It's a small village, but we loved our stay. We'll be back!

Kamesei Ryokan is a family-run traditional onsen inn with mostly warm wood construction and gardens throughout. We are an American-Japanese couple that are happy to share our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada with visitors curious about the Japanese countryside. You can relax wearing yukata robes in your private tatami mat rooms and enjoy the hot spring mineral baths rich in sulfur content. (The onsen baths are tattoo-friendly.) Our chef's creative kaiseki-style dinners are highly recommended.
Guestrooms are traditional Japanese style with tatami-mat floors, shoji screens on the windows and sliding fusuma doors. Room is our budget room 6-tatami mat size with sink but shared toilets. Bedding is futon mattress spread on the floor (by us). Bathing facilities are with the common onsen baths, divided men's and women's, both with outdoor baths and all available 24-hours. There is also a family outdoor bath that can be reserved for private use (+2200 yen / 45 min.).
Our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada is a resort town with the Chikuma River flowing down the middle and surrounded by mountains and hills. There are 30 inns and hotels and 100+ restaurants and bars. Guests are encouraged to wear their yukata robes and our wooden geta sandals and explore the town. There are onsen footbaths, many specialty shops and, at night, 'shateki' shooting parlors to enjoy. On the hill behind our town is Arato-jo, a mountain-top fortress with a great view of the Chikuma River valley below.
  • Place so nice I booked it twice 🥰

    Rhiannon2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Kamesie Ryokan was one of the best places we stayed during our 3 week vacation across Japan. Tyler and his wife Mari made us fell at home, and went above and beyond our expectation for a host. The place we very quaint and clean, and was located close to a number of restaurants, bars, and cork-gun shooting galleries. Tyler was able to suggest for us a nearly endless amount of things to do around the area, and even led a bike tour of the area with rental bikes! For a price you can have the chef prepare you breakfast and/or dinner which I strongly advise you do at least once. It's a traditional Japanese meal, but they will work with your dietary restrictions and we thought the food was the best we had in Japan! But all of this pales in comparison to their onsen. There are 3 areas inside the ryokan, a guys onsen, girls onsen, and (with a 45 min reservation) a family onsen. This was our first onsen experience, and Tyler put us at ease by walking us through step by step the process and customs in an onsen. Tyler and his wife both speak English and Japanese, and picked us up and dropped us off at the nearby Togura Train Station. I HIGHLY recommend you stay at the Kamesie Ryokan!

    Gregory2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The ryokan of Tyler and his wife is an exceptional place. their kindness welcomes you before you arrive in your room. the five thermal baths (two inside and two outside, and one you can private) are pleasant thanks to the decord and the cosmetics available to you. I was afraid to go to Togura because it is not a tourist town and I was afraid that it was isolated. I was wrong. On the one hand Togura offers various activities such as mountain hikes to reach a temple and an architectural complex of a typical 15C castle. the city offers thermal baths for the feet in different places. finally the architecture of the houses and the private gardens are also very beautiful. On the other hand Togura is only 45 minutes from Nagano by train at a price around 3 dollards. from Nagano you have access to the activities on offer in this area of Japan, such as ski, the snow monkey park and even its world heritage sites.

    Maria-Del-Mar2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • A really great place ran by some amazing and helpful people. I will keep this place in mind if I decide to take another trip to Nagano with friends!

    Alexander2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Tyler San was very gracious throughout the stay and was amazing with all the recommendations. The onsen at the place is absolutely amazing and so is the fireplace. Would love to be back there and highly recommended for everyone!

    Riddhideep2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second time staying at Kamesei. It is a beautiful space and the amazing baths (especially the 100 year bath) alone made the trip from Hawaii worth it. Tyler and his family made all the difference and elevated my short trip from great to phenomenal. They went out of their way to assist me. Highly recommended and will definitely be back again.

    Derek2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kamesei Ryokan was easily the highlight of my trip. It was my first onsen experience and Tyler and his family made me feel comfortable and welcome. I had dinner both nights and it was a true feast with countless regional dishes I had never tried. The baths themselves were luxurious with indoor and outdoor onsen. I think it is impossible to find a better Ryokan for the price, I will surely be back.

    Benjamin2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect if you are looking for a ryokan in the pure Japanese tradition. The price / quality ratio is excellent, Tyler and his wife are very responsive, and the meals offered are of exceptional quality. The only small downside, and completely independent of my experience in the ryokan, would be the village of Togura itself which is quite "sad". For a weekend of relaxation in the onsens and discovery of traditional Japanese gastronomy, I can only recommend this ryokan.

  • It was a warm house. I was worried about the cold before going, but it was all right! The food is very delicious, so we recommend that you have dinner here. The outside of the house was like Europe and the atmosphere was good.

    Yuri2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • It was a valuable and memorable experience. Thank you very much! The lovely couple, their lovely daughter, and their friends also made a lot of good friends :) Above all, the excitement did not stop with the traditional rice cake making with a pestle and a mortar. It was really nice to be able to spend in a nice, handmade, enclosed space. In the slow flow of time, I touched the couple's careful living and refreshed my mind and body. I was able to touch a lot of art and spread the audience. I was worried about the cold because it was winter, but thanks to the heater I was able to spend comfortably. If you like cooking, you can rent a kitchen. I highly recommend you stay there! Thank you very much for Yuu, Megumi, Mizuki and wonderful experience :)

    Ruka2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Yuu-San and Megumi-san are such kind and warm people. Definitely purchase the dinners for every night you stay there. The food is delicious and pretty much unlimited and the conversations with Yuu, his family, and the other guests or friends are super cool. You really end up feeling like part of the family. The long dinners are the highlight of the stay. If you can play music, be prepared to play something for them. You can tell they love art and music, so that's the best gift you can give them. The straw hut is cozy and surprisingly comfortable! If you have any doubts about booking this place, lemme tell you to just go through with it. It'll be one of your more memorable experiences in Japan.

  • Yuu-Sans place was a perfect start to our travels in Japan. Its a place to relax, enjoy the onsen and take a nice walk. Dinner spent with them was incredible food and conversation! They went over and above to accommodate us! - If your planning on travelling around this area of the mountains I highly recommend a stay here!

    Yasmin2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • It was a life healed by beautiful nature and the personality of the couple. Instead of visiting sightseeing spots, you can get into a different life and discover many things in nature while relaxing. For dinner, you can enjoy Megumi's treats made from vegetables taken that morning in the morning, play with the signboard cat Sumi-chan, or play with the friendly goat clobe.

  • A beautiful guesthouse located in the lovely town of Bessho Onsen. Roberto picked us up from the station and provided lots of local tips - we loved the Soba restaurant in particular! The room is clean, cosy and comfortable and the kitchen is great! We were very warm even in cold weather. I highly recommend this guesthouse.

  • I had a very pleasant stay. The owner's explanation, local information, and all were very exhaustive. The guest house also has a very nice and beautiful room, which has been renovated on its own, so you can spend a very pleasant time. There is a gallery operated by the owner on the premises, This is also a must check. You can also purchase unique artworks.

  • Both rumi sauce and roberto are very gracious artists, and they love the studio run by the couple and this little homestay. I spent a special new year in Bessho Onsen, participated in the Japanese New Year market and the Bell Bell blessing, and bought a lot of handmade souvenirs in the shop of rumi sauce. Rumi sauce made a new year's miscellaneous dish for us. Rice cake! ! ! With a sincere feeling and happiness in her heart, she will come to play with her after the appointment.

    Ethan2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Rumi is a very friendly and responsive host, we had a lovely experience in Bessho with so much emotional touches with the local people thanks to her thoughtful advice and help!

    Zhiqi2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was very good that the tableware was wonderfully made by the owner as well as the comfort of the old house.

    Shinya2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • One of the most welcoming experiences I have had with AirBnB. Rumi speaks excellent English and took the time to show us around the town and told us where to and where not to go/eat. She arranged breakfast for all our days (we can really recommend the Japanese breakfast made by her neighbour). We stayed there mid December and it could actually be quite cold inside (old not well insulated building), but luckily the kerosene heaters did a good job of heating the rooms. Useful are the provided baskets with shampoo and soap as the three public baths nearby don’t have the amenities. My son and I really enjoyed our time (3 nights) here and this is certainly a place I’d consider coming back to!

    Jaap2019-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • It was quite relaxing! Is the hospitality better than expected? I think that! The room was cute and cozy ^ ^ I want to go to Bessho Onsen again ^-^

    Momoko2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We accepted accommodation for infants. Very kind and nice owner. The old house has been renovated nicely. There is also a hot spring nearby so it is very convenient.

  • I had a great stay! You need to walk a little bit from Ueda station, but it only took about 10min. The room is a bit small, but very clean and comfortable. They have artistic buildings and a bar you can ask for drinks. The breakfast was delicious as well!

    동준2019-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • It is a very nice guest house. The front desk is very fresh with a stylish cafe shop and a stage performance and theater performance. The staff are also kind and thank you for responding politely despite the late check-in time. I will go to play again if I have time.

  • I was able to stay in peace in a very stylish and clean space. It is convenient in the central shopping district of Ueda. It was very quiet at night. Also, I would like to stay when there is a play.

    Aki2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • I picked this place as it was the last place available last-minute within my (low) price range. However, when I arrived I was extremely impressed. The staff were very friendly and accommodating (I had to arrive a little after the check-in cut-off time, but they were happy to stay a bit longer); the space was very warm and cozy; and the beds were really well set-up, giving you total privacy (a rare thing in a dorm), electricity and even free ear-plugs (a total life-saver). The icing on the cake was that it was only a short walk from the station and surrounded by restaurants (which they were happy to recommend). Will definitely stay again!

It'll be 8 mats of Japanese-style room. The room where it's sunny and also warm by winter. For 15 minutes, it's about 10 minutes by car more than the Shinkansen Sakudaira station by car more than Saku IC. It's 3 minutes on foot to the bus stop .

There are many hot springs nearby so you can go to different hot springs every day if you stay for a long time.
Guestrooms are traditional Japanese style with tatami-mat floors, shoji screens on the windows, sliding fusuma doors, and decorative tokonoma alcove. Room is our standard room 10-tatami mat size with sink and private toilet. Bedding is futon mattress spread on the floor (by us). Bathing facilities are with the common onsen baths, divided men's and women's, both with outdoor baths and all available 24-hours. There is also a family outdoor bath that can be reserved for private use (+2200 yen / 45 min.).
  • A highlight of our trip to Japan! Tyler and Mari were brilliant hosts, from the pick up and drop off to the local JR train station, to the abundance of local knowledge and their desire to ensure all needs were met immediately and adequately. The rooms were lovely, with plenty of games for the kids in the Den. The reception area and foyer were very welcoming, and the abundance of different Onsens for use was fantastic. We took up the option of having the local dinner and breakfast added to the stay, and my wife and two kids were amazed at the quality of the food and beautiful taste. We also enjoyed wearing the supplied Yukata’s throughout the duration of the stay, and even were adventurous enough to wear them into town and the shooting galleries! Lastly, proximity to Nagano was good, as this allowed quick access to big city amenities as well as transport to the Snow Monkeys. Couldn’t recommend the stay at Tyler and Mari’s Ryokan more highly!

    Roderick2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Kamisei. Tyler went above and beyond to help us navigate and discover the local scene. Room was very comfortable, and we had an authentic ryokan experience. Would definitely stay again!

    Stephanie2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had another great stay at Tyler-san's ryokan! It was my friend's first ryokan and now she's spoilt (and very impressed). Looking forward to my next stay already!

    Hannah2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Tyler’s place was one of the best Air Bnb experiences I’ve had! We arrived at the train station later than the pick up time, but he still came to the station to pick us up. The place was cosy and reminded me of my Grandma’s home. Tyler and his wife are very welcoming and hospitable. When we came back from dinner, our futons were prepared and setup for the night. The place is just as you see it in the pictures. Their hospitality makes this place quite special. There are a few restaurants and cafes nearby. I would be very happy to stay here again.

  • We stayed 3 nights in Kamesei Ryokan. This place was beautiful and we loved onsen ❤️ Location was great to explore Nagano area. We would definetly stay again!

  • Fantastic stay and experience at this Ryokan, would highly recommend. It was our first stay at a Ryokan, so Tyler was very kind to orient us on the etiquette, as well as show us around, provide some history and some tips. We made sure to fully experience the baths and wear our yukatas. I also highly recommend the dinner and breakfast options, very local and very delicious.

  • It’s located in a national park. The stars here is breathtaking! Winter is very cold, -7 C during our visit, but the rooms were very warm with floor heating. Place is clean and quiet, the host is very, very friendly, cheerful and warm. You can forget the busy life and the time seem to stop in this place. The snow is very beautiful, and the host brought us to a spot with a scenic view of the north alps, like a huge wall of ice at the horizon. Worth every yen we paid, and it’s affordable too! If you have a car and wants to come in the winter dont forget your chain, the snowy roads are slippery. There is a skii park just nearby. One hour from snow monkey park. Highly recommended, will come again!

  • There was also a pension and there was a cozy atmosphere. There were a lot of comics and so on, and they were designed not to be bored. Although it was a shared part, it was very helpful because there was a refrigerator and simple cooking utensils. Thank you very much.

  • I stayed for watching rugby. It is the best location to go to Yangpyeong. The approach from the parking lot to the entrance was very romantic. It is a building where you can see that the owners are living carefully. The rooms are simple but very clean and relaxing. There is a small kitchen on the same floor where you can boil hot water and use a refrigerator. While listening to the sound of the leaves, you can have your breakfast on a small table in the kitchenette. The mini kitchen was a very pleasant and refreshing place. It seems that breakfast is included if you ask. Anyway, it is a wonderful accommodation where you can enjoy the plateau.

    Michiyo2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • This cozy pension is surrounded by white birch trees and beautiful flowers in the plateau. I took my first elementary school child to stay in a pension, but I enjoyed a lot of books, comics, board games, and most of all, my home away from home. If you ask, you can have a very delicious breakfast, and there is a mini-kitchen and tools so you can prepare your own meals. Many other customers have good manners and are very comfortable. Spend a leisurely time or enjoy various outdoor activities in the surroundings. It is a very attractive place! Recommended!

  • Miyasaka is a good chef and his food is very good I would advise to go for the food option and leave it to Miyasaka. Knowing a bit of Japanese might be useful. Miyasaka has a basic knowledge of English and most things should be covered by this. Miyasaka is helpful as well driving me to onsen and into town for walks and such. I enjoyed my stay and would book again if I stay in the area.

  • 青雲館大好き ❤ It’s an unforgettable experience in Miyasaka’s house with cute people. It is a cozy and quiet place far from disturbed city. Miyasaka is very friendly, kind, thoughtful and hospitable. He is also an excellent chef of cooking lots of kind of Japanese food. Help us for travel arrangement. You can live in this Japanese traditional house and experience Japanese rural life style. Komoro is a beautiful city. My sister and I love our stay here. When I see the full moon, I’ll miss everything in here. Expect the next time stay here in Summer.

  • It was an unforgettable and special experience of living at Miyazaki’s place. We arrived at 12.31 to spend the last day of the year. The house is just as picture and as all kind of Japanese drama and amine I have seen! So cute and authentic experience! The food was amazing! With 4000 yen per person, we can get A5 beef in a incredible amount with other dishes! Mr. Miyasaka is such a good chief indeed! Breakfast was fantastic too. I wish I can post photos lol. Lots of ski places around for winter experience as well. I’ll definitely come back during summer or winter!

  • If you are looking to get away from the hustle bustle of city life and spend some time in a quiet country town, making friends with other travellers and experiencing all the Japanese countryside has to offer, then Miyasaka’s place is for you. This accommodation gives you the opportunity to connect with Japanese culture and lifestyle that you just don’t get in a hotel. Miyasaka was very helpful in taking us to the station and other local spots, such as the local church. He was very helpful in helping us know which train to catch when and would pick us up at the station after a day of sightseeing. The food was delicious and plentiful. Helping to make tempura was a highlight. Long walks with the dogs in the fresh air with beautiful views of the mountains was also a highlight. We were also able to connect with other travellers staying at the guest house and form some friendships. Thank you Miyasaka for your wonderful hospitality!

  • We had dinner and liquor, but it was very delicious and very satisfying. We were worried about the cold, but we had kotatsu, heating, and electric blankets also provided, so we were able to spend comfortably. Thanks to a host full of hospitality who puts the traveler first. I was very relaxed in the calm atmosphere of the old house. We headed from Karuizawa, but arrived in about 30 minutes by car, and there is a convenience store in a few minutes, so it was convenient for location! I want to visit again! !

  • This is a typical Japanese house where you can learn about the life of the locals. We are self-driving and it is easy to find where you want to live based on GPS. There is free parking. Miyasaka is a good chef, and you can eat at his house (of course you have to pay). Because you stay at a homestay in Miyasaka and enjoy a free hot spring bath. It's quiet around and it's a nice place!

  • Lovely countryside house with Shinji as the perfect house. Lovely details in terms of decoration. Very bright rooms and nice furniture. Everything was perfect organized. We had an amazing weekend and felt like at home. We can highly recommend this place.

  • The kind owner explained the hotel carefully. The inn is beautiful and very satisfying.

  • Very clean and comfortable. We used it with 9 people and a large number of people, but did not feel any cramped feeling because the room was large. In addition, there were various playground equipment, and each was enjoying themselves. Thanks to Shinji for his polite response.

  • The host warmly welcomed me and gave me an explanation of the facilities carefully. The rooms were clean and well equipped with projectors and Bluetooth speakers. Thank you very much!

  • Shinji’s place is wonderful for families as the place is cosy and beautiful. It’s a nice getaway from the city and will definitely stay at his home if I visit the area again

  • Very big and clean. I thought it would be a little inconvenient because the supermarket and convenience store were nearby, but there was no problem. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers, games (popular for kids), mini ping-pong table is very popular and noisy up to midnight, no neighbors nearby, so I could concentrate without worrying too much (laughs) ) It is also good that the bedroom is completely separated from the living room. I felt like going to play again.

    Hiroyuki2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very stylish and well equipped, great! You can watch movies with a projector, play ping-pong, or cook and eat while listening to your favorite music with a speaker connected via Bluetooth. I think you can have a great time with a large group or two!

  • I was interrupted by a snowboard trip with a member of the company. [Facilities and equipment] Although it is an old private house, it is well-cleaned and very beautiful. The kitchen also has tableware. I think this equipment is exceptional at this price. Big kotatsu was the best. [Location] It is in a quiet place, slightly away from the city. Because there are hot springs, supermarkets, and convenience stores nearby, there is no inconvenience. There are few places to eat until late at night, so be careful [Manager] Very kind! As well as directions, they turned on heating when they arrived in the room, We had you come to send lost article and were excellent at hospitality!

  • Our hosts went to so much effort -- bringing us vegetables from their garden and a sukiyaki pot to cook dinner with. They were helpful, kind and thoughtful, and the house was fabulous and roomy.

  • The stay at Kanai's place was perfect. It's a beautiful classic home with superior finish and touches. The house was sparkling clean. The kitchen had all kind amenities needed for a long stay. The futons were very comfortable. Mr Kanai was friendly and thoughtful. We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to a return visit.

  • At first we were greeted at an easy-to-understand roadside station, and they guided us so we arrived immediately without hesitation. The inside guide of the house was also polite. Although the whole is large and it is an old private house, the water area and home appliances are new and comfortable. In addition, he taught me carefully the nearby hot springs, which was very helpful. My husband was grateful to me for having a cold, and to receive a nozawana from my wife. He was still unfamiliar, but he is a host couple who has the best hospitality and fun chatting, and is a recommended inn for families to relax and relax.

  • I was able to stay while relaxing in a traditional old house. With kotatsu, heating, kitchen, and other amenities. The rates are also very cheap. Above all, the host was a gentle person who spoke openly and felt kindly. I would definitely use it again if I have the opportunity. This is an old house that is perfect for those who want to relax and forget the time while enjoying the traditional atmosphere.

  • I liked Masayuki Sanada and stayed at an old private house in Nagano prefecture. When I went there, there was a hot spring in a place surrounded by mountains and I took a rest. I was worried that it would be cold at night in December, but there was an oil stove and a kotatsu. It is also recommended for those who want to enjoy country life for a long time.

This suite room has high vaulted ceiling with loft section. 2nd floor: 14 tatami size room plus 3 tatami size loft. Shared bathrooms are located on both 1st and 2nd floor. Shower room on the 1st floor. Common living room in the 1st floor.
  • We stayed in the largest room for 4 people, but we were able to spend very comfortably. Not only clean, but the coordination that the owner's sense shines is wonderful. After arriving, they had me take care of dinner and breakfast, and there was no problem even if I stayed without meals. For breakfast, we asked for a grilled fish set meal that the fish shop next door brought specially to the inn. Visit one place at night and one in the early morning. You can lend all necessary sets (shampoo, conditioner, face wash, towel) to the hot spring. Bessho Onsen tours shrines and temples if you have 2 hours. It is a very recommended place.

  • Staying at Earthworks in Besshoonsen was the highlight of our honeymoon trip to Japan! We stayed in the Suite room which was so comfortable and beautifully designed, in line with the rest of the guesthouse. We were overwhelmed by Rumi’s generous hospitality and care during our stay. We enjoyed all her recommendations, especially the soba noodle place down the street, the ebikes, visiting seki apple orchard, the izakaya, tofu from the tofu shop near Rumi’s amazing gallery, the cute bakery and relaxing in the onsens. We also met some very nice people who were staying in the guesthouse at the same time as us. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to return to this magical place in the future.

  • This is an excellent hotel for cospa. In addition to the very stylish interior, the room has been thoroughly cleaned, so you can spend a pleasant time. In addition, the response from the host was very helpful. The price is cheap and there is no way to complain. it's recommended.

    Tomoya2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This time, I was taken care of by my family, including a 5-year-old child. The host Rumi gave us information about dinner and breakfast. I was very comfortable. The quality of the hot springs that can be reached on foot is very good, and I became a fan of Bessho Hot Springs. The building is very clean and stylish, but since it is an old private house, the stairs to the second floor are steep and the soundproofing is low, so be careful if you have small children.

    Aruga2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lumi was very friendly and warm and it was a really good stay. From check-in to check-out, they were kind to us with a comfortable distance. It is a space where you can feel tired and clean. It is recommended when traveling around here!

  • A quiet guest house in the mountains of Komoro city. The host was very friendly and I could hear many interesting stories. And they had all the firewood, igniting agents for pizza kilns, charcoal, firewood, etc., so there was no need for additional purchases. Recommended for those who want to be healed in nature!

  • It was a trip with four women, but thanks to the warm and caring owner, I was able to spend the best time. All the seasonings and cooking equipment required for cooking are available, and you can knead pizza and bake it in a kiln. Unfortunately we couldn't see the starry sky in the cloudy sky, but it was a hotel that would definitely want to stay again. Thank you very much for your flexible check-in time.

  • Where do I even begin? Everything about this cozy little cottage was perfect. We had a very warm welcome (literally) as our hosts warmed the cottage up for our arrival and helped us get the fireplace going. A tasty little welcome dessert was waiting for us in the fridge along with a note inviting us to make ourselves at home and help ourselves to any of the tea and coffee that they had prepared. Even though the Negishi’s have only been renting their cottage out for just over a year, hospitality comes so naturally to them that they might as well have been in the industry for decades! The cottage is tucked away at the end of a road on top of a hill. There were quite a few other houses around, but the position of the property really made it feel like you were tucked away in nature. We started the day with the sound of the birds chirping in the morning and ended it with a view on the clear, starry sky at night. The town of Ueda gets very cold, but gets surprisingly little snow. Even on cold days, we were able to sit in front of the cottage facing the sun and sipping our morning coffee and soaking up the sunshine. The property was planned and constructed over twelve years by Mr. Negishi himself, a skilled craftsman with a background in traditional Japanese gardening, which requires working with stones. Make sure to take some time to relax and soak in all of the detail-work that went into this beautiful cottage! Despite being over a decade old, the cottage is so spotless that it felt as if we were the first guests to ever stay there. There wasn’t even one speck of dust on the windowsills! A big thank you to the Negishi’s (and their lovely dog, Raku) for being the best hosts!

  • Can’t recommend this place enough! Perfect place to escape the busy city for a weekend. The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. I’ll never forget their hospitality!

  • One of the best listing we ever had since using Airbnb and we really enjoyed spending time with both of Koji san & Makiko san! Their hospitality is outstanding and the room is also amazingly clean and stylish. We chat with them and gave us a lot of things about nature. I really really recommend this place to any kinds of travellers and I would say please visit them for just staying and talked a lot. ありがとうございました、大好きです!!

  • It was a very fashionable and wonderful house! We were greeted by a warm couple and a cute dog Rakukun! We went in winter but we could spend a lot of heat and it was very warm. There is a hot spring nearby and you can also get a hot spring ticket! On a sunny day, the stars are so beautiful that you can sit on a bench in front of the house and look at the stars. In addition, there was a lot of hospitality and it was a very good memory. I want to visit again!

    Ryuta2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • The villa is amazing. We stay there during the autumn season which is familiar with maple colour leaf. In the entrance, the path was fully cover by red colour maple and make a guest grateful. The neighbourhood is quiet calm. The house was built with all stone by the owner. Since it's built by stone, isolation and heat retention is superb. But also the effect helps us to feel comfortable to stay inside. And cleanness and hospitality is "wow". I definitely recommend staying there for people who want to enjoy a slow life in nature, chilling, discover Japanese culture (the area is beautiful nature) and traveller from abroad too (That's why I wrote the review in English).

    Shinichiro2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • I just took a photo in a very nice house. He was healed by the warm atmosphere of Mr. Atsuji and his wife, making it a great trip. I would like to stay if there is another opportunity.

    Daiki2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The handmade stone house was very cool and quiet even in summer, and it was a very nice and relaxing space where you could feel the power of the stone when you relaxed in the room. For dinner, we had a BBQ in front of the house, but we also rented a BBQ stove and separated the vegetables from the garden so we had a great time. We were able to refresh in the great outdoors and it was a good trip to blow away the daily fatigue. I want to ask you again! Thank you very much!

    Yuki2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • I usually live in Tokyo. I wanted to spend a calm time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I stayed for two days, but I regret that I should have stayed more, or I should have enjoyed my house without going out during the day. If you have arrived at this inn for the same reason as me, I would recommend staying at home, eating and making it yourself in the morning and noon, and relaxing in a house with natural light. (The kitchen is well-equipped, and I was able to enjoy cooking from my own home.) The couple who operates the inn is also a wonderful person, and when I talked, I felt calm as if my stiff head became soft. We recommend staying overnight with confidence. (I thought it would be great to be alone)

Your host Mr Ravi and Mr Tabuchi will give you sublime and subtle Japanese cuisine and if you enjoy good Indian cuisine, this place will spoil you. More importantly, if you are vegetarian like we are, they will specifically cater for you. We enjoyed authentic Indian foods and masala chai. Great value for money!

  • Thank you very much, Yuu, the other day. Thank you very much for coming and going in a comfortable place where the winds come and go. Everyone had a really good time with a delicious meal! We also want to find such places and make them. I will bother you again! Thank you very much.

  • We made a short trip to Komoro and were lucky enough to stay on Yuu-san and Megumi-san's property. An idyllic setting with a sense of creativity in the air, that's also quite evident in the various dwellings. The earth house was rustic but comfortable and a welcome break from city life. The highlight of our stay was the dinner party where we met their family and friends, and other guests as well. It was a fantastic experience, filled with laughter, sharing stories, translating various languages along with singing and music. The food primarily consisted of items from their farm and the local area and was delicious. We cannot thank Yuu-san and Megumi-san enough for their warm hospitality and making us feel like a part of their community. We cannot wait to go back!

  • A nice place full of art and nature. It ’s a waste of a night. Recommended for people who want to enjoy interacting with various people, those who love nature, those who are interested in art, and people who have become tired of anything.

  • Our family had a lovely experience in this rural genuine mud guesthouse. The host family was so lovely and genuine and we really enjoyed the dinners and social time together. We got to see and experience some local music and art projects with the host which was really nice. Thank you so much for sharing your life food and stories with us and our kids!!

  • There were lots of encounters with nature, books, people, and I was able to spend some relaxed time. It was a creative place that I would like to ask from time to time.

  • It was a wonderful stay. Owner's hospitality is the best! It is an extra charge, but it is recommended to have dinner. My wife's food is great! It was also a great time to have dinner and drink with other owners and other guests of the house. It is recommended that you bring a drink and drink with everyone. Location is good, too. Mount Asama looks really beautiful.

  • If you are a lover of arts, music and community-building, you will absolutely love staying at Yuu’s beautiful coffee shop / guesthouse / work of art. Our night here was a highlight of our trip...the warm company, the vast collection of their friends’ art, the delicious farm fresh meal, the gorgeous countryside property....this place is not to be missed and Yuu is one of the most wonderful hosts I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying with.

  • A nice place with nice hosts, great for a break from Tokyo

    Ben2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed for two weeks with a couple and a dog. Hiking in a nearby mountain, walking to a hot spring, going a little far away by car, going out on a road bike, cooking at home using vegetables from the fields and gardens, living together Talking with other people, reading while feeling the wind, it was a very fulfilling human activity period. Our goal was to relax away from the urban life, but it's also a perfect place for artists to work quietly. The climate, the environment and the people are good, so I wanted to spend my summer vacation here every year. Recommended for those who want to spend time leisurely.

  • It’s a nice place if you’re looking for real Japanese country life.

  • Staying at Okubo Studio for two weeks was one of our best experiences in Japan so far. The house itself is clean and has a unique style mixing artsy design, and a bit of traditional Japanese. The area is perfect for coutryside and onsen lovers. But the best part is the people and sense of community we get to share with our neighbours and hosts. Mizuki-san, thank you for everything you organized for us, for allowing us to meet genuine people and practice our Japanese to the fullest. Regarding transports, there are a few buses coming from and to town, but if you don't mind walking a bit you can get to Komoro station or Kaikoen Parc in 40mn via small roads surrounded by rice fields. Nagano is 1h away by Train and also worth the trip.

    Tanea2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • I think that it will be very exciting just to listen to the story because you are staying in Komoro and this inn with purpose. I am glad that the unique efforts of the people in this area are spreading.

  • A wonderful owner and a custodian will experience idyllic rural living. As there is shared space, there may be anxious people, but the guests who gather are also great people, When I stayed there, we had a couple of French men and a couple who stayed for two nights, but we ate dinner together for two nights! I was able to get along well thanks to the owner's consideration! House information house is a single-family flat house. Are the rooms about 8 mats? Two people are large enough. Living dining is also large and large enough to hold parties. There are cooking utensils and seasonings in the kitchen and you can make anything if you want to make it! Location Environment It takes about an hour to walk from Komoro Station, so rental cars are recommended! I rented a car at Sakudaira Station! Recommended because there are multiple hot springs nearby! (There is also a bath at home) It takes 30 minutes by car to Karuizawa! close! I want to experience rural living! I want to spend leisurely in the idyllic! Recommended for those who want to leisurely explore Nagano Prefecture!

  • I stayed for 4 nights for production activities. At first, I intended to be a hotel, but I would like to have a wonderful time that I can only taste in this place, with the warm exchange between other artists who have stayed, hosts, Shi-chan, and everyone in the area. Was done. The cafe reading forest is also nearby, and it was a wonderful place with lots of inspiration. There are two hot springs in the immediate vicinity. It took a half hour from the station and it took about 30 minutes, but the stay was at the end of November, but the weather was calm and I walked while enjoying the beautiful scenery and I did not feel very tight. Recommended for those who like a walk. Komora the best ♪ It is a place I want to use again by all means. Thank you so much!

  • If you've read the other good reviews, then I'm not sure what else I can add. I'll probably only be repeating similar things. The host and their family are lovely people and I'd recommend their airbnbs to others, and go back myself, just because of them. The accommodation was good as well - I enjoyed living in a Japanese style house for a while, and being away from the city and away from work. If I lived closer I'd probably visit here for a 'retreat' every so often! The others in the house, and few locals I met, were nice people too. If you need to stay busy, (e.g. go shopping and do lots of sightseeing every day), visiting the 'countryside' may not be right for you - but for me, for what I wanted, everything about my stay here was good. Just note: the location may not show up properly in Google maps, so if you're going to find your own way there make sure to confirm directions/addresses.

  • I appreciate your kindness at this time. We had a very entertaining host with a very hospitality. As it was a visit during the GW period of 10 consecutive holidays, it was a pleasure to spend in the flow of relaxed time, as the goal of wanting to spend peacefully and peacefully in the country. I was able to go to the hotel with peace of mind as I also contacted you properly. Especially the message on the day was very polite and safe to wear. In the message in advance, "There is nothing around, so it is better to finish shopping along the way." I thought it was located in a very inconvenient place, but without that there were several supermarkets within driving distance, and there were three hot springs nearby (( All within 5 minutes by car or on foot). In addition, if you travel 10 minutes by car, there is also an open city, so if you go there you will find everything. I searched for a Japanese-style confectionery shop in order to act towards France who was staying at the same time, but discovered several stores (although some were closed during the GW period). If you look for it, it is a convenient place to have anything. Although a car is essential. . . The French people used to rent bicycles to buy us the special cheeses and so on to act on the carbonara. The chain super TSURUYA in Nagano Prefecture is highly recommended (immediately by car). There were a lot of branded products, and the original sake was delicious. Certainly it may be a bit inconvenient if you do not have a car, but there is also a hot spring at a distance of less than 10 minutes on foot, and I think you will not be troubled as it will lend you a bicycle for a fee. By the way, there are 3 rooms in this lodging, and 3 groups can stay. There is a shared kitchen, bathroom, wash basin and toilet. The kitchen was so large and there were a lot of tableware, so having a good time eating together was a great experience. There is also a fireplace so you can unwind. We were indebted to the fireplace by the mysterious cold waves while we were staying. I also learned how to use the fireplace. Those who get in touch are not in the hotel, but they will meet you at check-in and will speak out with you every day. It is also good to ask what you recommend. In addition, one person male staff sleeps in another room in the hotel separately from the person and can feel relieved at the time of emergency. Both are nice people. If you like farming experience, you can do it. We gave up because we did not have the equipment that can be dirty, but I think that we would like to challenge next time. It was fun to have a really valuable experience on this trip. The two groups staying in the same period were also wonderful people, making rice and having fun together. It is a highly recommended hotel, so come!

The guest house also has a very nice and beautiful room, which has been renovated on its own, so you can spend a very pleasant time. There is a gallery operated by the owner on the premises, This is also a must check. You can also purchase unique artworks.

  • We had no idea how special Rumi and Roberto’s beautiful guesthouse would be! Even more so, Bessho Onsen is a gorgeous little town that is not used to foreigners who don’t speak Japanese. Rumi and Robertos guesthouse is opening it up a bit, and it is worth the stop. Great food, beautiful temples, wonderful onsen, and so peaceful. Already thinking of a return trip for cherry blossoms!

  • It is a very nice old house! It is recommended. In addition, the response of the host is very wonderful. Even if check-in is delayed, they will give you generous support, worry about dinner and worry about the next day's lunch, find a store, make a reservation Was. It was my first time to take care of tourists and I had a wonderful day. I appreciate it very much! ! In addition, there were shops other than hot springs such as gelato and bakery, and it was a fun place to take a walk.

  • Both his wife and Roberto were wonderful people. Although it was used as a charter, it was a wonderful space that was well-maintained and did not impair the style of an old private house. The tableware is handmade and has a stylish atmosphere. I would love to see you again.

  • A beautiful, large, traditional Japanese style house in a very quaint city in Nagano prefecture. No bathtub in the house (shower only) but onsens are scattered throughout the town to enjoy on a daily basis! Car is recommended for getting around. Rumi & Roberto were wonderful hosts making reservations for us at local restaurants, bringing us local treats, and even picked us up from the local train station upon arrival! We hope to come back again someday.

I would like to ask you through the four seasons. There are many sights such as switch back of the abandonment station and rice terraces. In addition, the ETC of the discard service area It is surprisingly convenient that it is near from the exit.

  • Few minutes walk from, Nakaraya is a renovated place with a lot of handmade touches and great view of the Obasute rice fields, which is one of the Top 100 Terraced Paddy Fields of Japan. The host Hirokazu-san is very friendly and helpful, for non-Japanese speaking guests may have to rely on translation app for communication. Newly open bar by the host is a good place to have simple yet delicious Japanese dinner and a big help as food place is hardly found at nearby area. Highly recommend for slow life experience and leisure countryside trip.

We self-renovated a 70-year-old farmer’s house as a summer house. The building is old but has necessary facilities compactly. It has a mini-kitchen and a drum-type washing machine, which are convenient for a consecutive stay. It looks an ordinary old farmer’s house in Japanese countryside but has a dynamic beams inside. It’s not a luxury type of house but you can see the original appearance of the old house. Experience the relaxing life of the farm village.
The window frame is made of wood and rattles if wind blows. You may be scared if you are alone at night! There is a claw-foot bathtub in the bathroom. You can run a hot bath not to mention take a shower.
・To Karuizawa and Matsumoto, you can access it by car for approximately one hour. ・The sightseeing spots such as Utsukushigahara Kogen, Shirakabako are near. ・Natural hot spring in three minutes by car. ・It is takes about 30 minutes to a Icecream shop of Bessho Onsen.
  • Thanks to staying here, it was a very good weekend. Price is cheap and cospa is very good. We stayed for 5 people but it was just right. It may be narrow if it is 5 or more. Also, because the kitchen is small, there was only one stove. This time, I didn't cook that much, but it was enough. However, it was a perfect room for this trip. We kindly explained the room at the time of check-in, and the mother of the host also spoke with a very kind person. Thank you very much!

  • It was impressive that a very beautiful sunrise was visible from the room. Worried insects were able to spend comfortably rather. And it is also very expensive that the family can use a washing and drying machine. Thank you for the fun memories.

    直子2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • It is an old-fashioned house, but it is beautifully renovated. Cleaning seems to be thorough, and dust has not fallen at all even in a fine place. I think that the decoration is cute and especially women are happy. The water is enough and the hot water is warm. All new home appliances can be used comfortably. The disadvantage of old houses is where the stairs are steep. The two- and four-year-old daughter had no particular problems. I think it would be better to avoid pregnant women and people with disabilities. I was able to enjoy Ueda with a very satisfying stay.

Ken’s house is a traditional Japanese architecture with wooden floor and double stories. Living room on the 1st floor while sleeping sets on the 2nd. The facilities are simple but new, clean and sufficient. Shower with the spring water from the mountain gave me unprecedented refreshing feeling. Ken and his Mum are very nice and welcomed us with warm hospitality. People in local restaurants are very friendly and nice too. Since we are there in Sept., the rice are about to ripe and the pits are gorgeous for shooting tons of photos! Def want to visit the place again in the future!

  • Best location, cleanliness, fashionable. And the best hospitality.

  • A cute room with renovated old houses was impressive. Equipment necessary for staying, such as bedding and tableware, was well arranged and I was able to spend without inconvenience. Bathroom bathtub is also very cute, but it is also recommended to use there as there is hot spring nearby.

  • A really nice hostel! The was Japanese-style and there is a toilet and sink for every room. Everything is very clean and having an integrated onsen is really convenient and unique for a hostel. However, the bunk beds/ capsules are somehow constructed in a way that there's a lot of noise when people move around.

    Alexander2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent ryokan hostel. The onsen fee is only ¥150, and face towels and robes are ¥100 and ¥150 respectively. Everything was very modern and clean, and the staff was quite attentive to my needs. Free parking is available also. Staff members even speak English.

  • I could walk from Ueda station, a sense of cleanliness was outstanding and a comfortable space ◎ The staff was kind and nice person. The female room was exclusively used for shower, two washbasins, and since the toilet was located just off the bed, it was safe to use. There were also cafes and bakers in the surroundings, places to eat, convenience stores and was easy to spend!

  • If you’re looking for a place to wind down and focus on some personal hobbies/refresh your mind, I highly recommend Rumi & Roberto’s place. The rooms are large with a kerosene heater so you will be toasty. There is a coffee shop down the road with Maruyama coffee that is worth checking out. Also, be sure to dip in the onsen! You’ll be taken care of once you arrive. I received great guidance about the area and local tips! Thanks again!

  • I had a very pleasant stay. The explanation of the owner, the local information, and everything was very exhaustive. The guest house also has a very nice and beautiful room, which has been renovated on its own, so you can spend a very pleasant time. There is a gallery operated by the owner on the premises, This is also a must check. You can also purchase unique artworks.

    Sho2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • It was a very nice inn. It was a stylish and cozy space where the senses of Rumi and Roberto could be felt everywhere. It was nice to be able to visit the special day of the year-end and New Year holidays. Thanks to Rumi's many suggestions, I was able to spend a very fulfilling New Year's holiday. The most memorable thing was that I attached the bell at the end of the starry sky at Anrakuji. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

  • Bessho is a beautiful and charming town to explore on foot and you definitely get a sense of the local community. Everyone you meet is incredibly kind and Rumi’s helpful suggestions were the highlight of our short time here. She recommended dining options and onsens to visit which made our stay all the more special. She also provided ready-made toiletry kits and towels to carry with you to the onsens. Her family’s Earthworks gallery is so eclectic and just one example of the many skilled and creative local crafts that you can find in town.

    Jessica2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful and creative space in a town that is serene and rich in history. And the friendliest locals, too. Rumi helped us squeeze the most out or far too limited time here. We would highly recommend you stay and if you can, do make it more than 1 night!!
