Places to stay in Waiomu
Nestled amongst a beautiful private jungle garden and citrus orchard, only a few steps away from the beach. This beachside get-away is perfect for solo travellers and couples. The spacious cabin and separate full bathroom were completely renovated in July 2017. Equipped with all the necessities you need for a relaxed stay. Enjoy the peace and curl up with a book or wander along the stunning Coromandel coastline. A perfect spot for swimming, fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking or even kitesurfing.
Our guests love the location, with the cabin in amongst the fruit trees listening to birdsong and just a few steps to the beach, it really is ideal. We are passionate about the environment and have used recycled materials where possible. The cabin is set in a citrus fruit orchard, help yourself to free fruit ! We love travelling and have made our space as cosy as possible, we always welcome new ideas and feedback. If you want the perfect getaway, away from the city, away from WIFI, just pure chill and relax, you will find it here. The cabin can be set up with an additional single bed (floor mattress) including bedding, ideal for a child or additional guest.
The neighbourhood is very friendly, people will say hello. There is a fantastic coffee shop / cafe / restaurant / pizzeria only 5 minutes drive away. Small shop with takeaways about a 5-10 minute walk. Thames is 10-15 min drive (i recommend driving slowly to enjoy the breathtaking view) and there you will find a full supply of shops, supermarkets, the famous Saturday markets and much more
  • The place was super cool and a great stay with your own private bathroom and kitchen which was lovely! Very cute stay that had privacy, was clean, and a nice space to relax in 😊

  • Cosy & romantic cabin set beside a beautiful beach on the coast. Glass of wine to watch the sunset was a great tip by the host. Super comfy bed, clean and well designed space. We could only stay the one night but would highly recommend staying longer!

    Darragh2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Natalie and Craig’s place is a perfect getaway - we came just for a couple of nights to have a break while the grandparents looked after the kids, and it couldn’t have been better. The beach is literally seconds away, the cabin itself is cosy and secluded, and Natalie and Craig are very attentive hosts, whilst also giving you total privacy. We will (hopefully!) be back.

    Ruth2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cabin, really a special place to be! If you are a bit tall (1,80m +) be prepared not to be able to stand up straight in all of the cabin. Did not matter much to us anyway, we had a great time! Natalie and Craig put up a mosquito net, which is very helpful as there are quite some of them. In short: recommended!

    Huub2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in the tiny house. Natalie was very accommodation and gave us great recommendations when we arrived. The little touches in the place made it very homely and we wished we could have stayed for more than one night. The place is right on the beach so great to relax, have a swim and watch the sunset. Very nice to unwind for a short stay.

    Martin2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A good retreat after a hard days travelling. All very good value! You have your own private space and are just a few paces away from the beach. One downside I found, although the host provides a microwave, hot plate, saucepan and frying pan there are no dishes to use to put in microwave or to whip an egg up. This makes cooking very difficult!

    Sarah2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Surprising on the outside but the interior was perfectly functional the necessary for cooking and clean

    Marc2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Private little cabin with a comfortable bed. Very friendly host, and an extra large size bar fridge which held all our cold goods and bottles with ease. I would recommend it, it was really nice. Great access to the beach. Loved travelling to explore all of Coromandel.

Our place is a small 60s vintage motel close to the beach with fantastic seaviews, a cafe, a shop, the local pub, a lovely bushwalk. A reasonable proximity to Thames (14kms). You’ll love our place because of the views and the location. Our place is good for couples and solo adventurers. Anyone wanting to kick back and relax with a drink on their personal beachside deck. This property is an oldie but a goodie. They don't make them like this anymore. Our beachside location is unique.
Waiomu Bay is a mix of full time residents and holiday homes. We've got a mix of residents ranging from retired right through to young families.
  • The rooms are in great condition and kept very tidy. John and Katherine are very knowledgeable about the area and are more than happy to chat and give recommendations.

  • The house is in the middle of the bush and a 5 minutes walk away from the beach. There is a big terrace and you have a stunning view. We were four people and the house offered each couple a private bedroom and bathroom. The hosts provide books and even films to their guests. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need for cooking. We met Carmen in person and she is very nice. The check in and check out is very easy and since we arrived in the morning, it was even possible to check in earlier. I definitely recommend this place if you love nature, a enjoy a nice architecture and interior design 😊

  • Edwina’s seaside cottage is a perfect spot for exploring the Coromandel! We had three wonderful nights here and without a doubt the most special thing about it is Edwina and her adorable pets! They all truly make you feel welcome and at home! Edwina is a remarkable and most fascinating women and we enjoyed great conversations. She has a fashionable home with very high quality linens, towels, pillows and the bed was so soft and comfy, it was hard to leave it! We really appreciated the lovely homemade bread and breakfast she provided in the morning! Thanks again for everything, Edwina!

    L2019-02-18T00:00:00Z

It doesn't matter that there are no hotplates, because otherwise there is really everything there is even a grill that we have used extensively. Rose has been very, very hospitable and caring. Thank you very much and my god the view of the sea is amazing at sunset. Thank you very much and best regards

You thought the gold rush up the Coromandel Peninsula was history? Think again! Affectionately named "The Nugget", it was one of the few remaining miner's cottages in the area. Lovingly transformed from a demolition project to a modern beach cottage by owner Jeff over the last 15 years, now she's the perfect couple's retreat-100m from the water, a quiet, relaxing space, conveniently located at the beginning of your journey along the beautiful coast and bush-clad vistas of the Coromandel.
The cottage has open-plan living and kitchenette, with a cosy but spacious bedroom with modern ensuite off to one side. Bifold doors open from the bedroom out to a covered front deck, and off the living area you'll find your very own private courtyard: a fully enclosed sun-trap, complete with barbeque, beautiful foliage, awesome bird life and your own little creek running alongside the attached decking. Please note that this creek is not fenced and small children must be supervised at all times. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics, a two burner hotplate, microwave, benchtop oven, family sized fridge and plenty of benchspace. Of course, The Nugget is always stocked with tea/coffee/sugar/milk/oil/salt/pepper etc, ready for your arrival. Most guests love to make use of the barbeque, dining outdoors most nights. Walk less than 100m down the street and find yourself at the water's edge- perfect for boaties and anglers. The boat ramp is a stone's throw from the letterbox, and with plenty of space directly in front of the house to park a trailer, caravan, or even pitch a tent for the kids, leisure time becomes a breeze. Enjoy an easy walk and scour the beach for quartz and shells, or wander 2 minutes in the opposite direction to the general store, who stock all of the basics (they also do good old kiwi takeaways; fish'n'chips, burgers, fritters etc, for those we-can't-be-bothered-cooking nights). There is wi-fi provided in The Nugget.
  • The Nugget is a lovely little bolt hole. Excellent amenities-all you need. Lovely spaces to sit. Short walk to a great beach for walking. Very relaxing 😎

The one bedroom cottage offers the true kiwi bach Cormandel accommodation experience. With all the comforts needed to enjoy your stay as well as one of the best views of the valley from a deck that soaks up the mid-day summer sun. The cottage is nestled up on the side of the Te Mata River valley. It is about a one hundred meter walk to the riverside where there are kayaks, a large grass area with hammocks, swings, and trampoline all available for your use.
In 2013 our family settled in the beautiful Te Mata Valley. On first sight we fell in love with the property and the potential it has. Originally built as a youth camp in the 60's Te Mata Lodge has a nostalgic kiwi holiday feel. There are a total of four other self contained units and a bunch of cabins however spread out on 10 acres and 500 meters of river access there is plenty of space to enjoy your privacy. This is our home; the place we have chosen to raise our children. We are an extended family with Murray and Dorothy, their daughter Jovana and husband Michael and their three young children living on the property. Te Mata Lodge is a labour of love and we take great pleasure in seeing our guests enjoy the property and all it has to offer.
Te Mata Lodge is situated just off the beautiful Pohutukawa Thames Coast. It is a short 15 minute walk to the beach, we have a local pub and convenience store 5 minutes drive down the road

  • Large apartment with picture windows for a breathtaking view! All the comfort is there. There is absolutely nothing lacking. Our hosts were more charming. We even had the right to fish from Vernon! Delicious!

  • This place is amazing - lovely hosts, beautifully appointed with everything you need, tastefully decorated and very very clean accommodation with spectacular views. Very quiet and private and the bed was super comfy, the shower has great pressure and the little extras were an added treat and very generous and thoughtful. There is no shop within walking distance (but very close by driving) so we found the starter supplies very thoughtful. We will most certainly recommend this property to family and friends.

  • Vernon and Louise were welcoming hosts and the property was clean, spacious and well appointed with lovely extra touches. The views were wonderful and the sunsets were to die for. A breadth of options were provided for breakfasts and Vernon surprised us with some of his catch after he had been fishing, so we also enjoyed some lovely snapper. Highly recommended.

Off the beaten track, This old beauty of a caravan is perched high up in a little spot on its own with a day bed also to lie out and see the stars. At the moment we can adjust the price for travellers who need to alter their travel plans. enquire about a weekly rate
A sweet wee caravan that sleeps a couple and a single or a small family(small single bed suitable for child) perched high in a unique native bush spot with gorgeous views and total privacy. Also an outside day bed (double) Enough space for a tent also for a larger family or group. The toilet is a really basic compost loo around the back, this may scare you if you are used to flushing! but its healthy and natural so dont be worried!. the shower is back down the hill so please remember its basic! Its perfect if you are happy in nature and ok to see the odd bug or two. (not many mozzies to high up) You could book the house truck alongside. (please check other listing to see the amenities) Be Aware please - There is a steep walk to the caravan and no vehicle access so be prepared for a five minute hike through New Zealand Bush! This is a one off rustic experience with your own little secluded piece of paradise so close to all the Coromandel beaches and attractions.
We live on 8 acres of native bush, right opposite the river and with easy Coromandel walks and lots of nooks and crannies to enjoy. The Tapu Valley has a wonderful Cafe at the Rapaura Watergardens and the food is divine. We have the best of both worlds here, the stunning coast road half way to Coromandel Town from Thames, and over the gravel road to Hot water Beach and Cathedral Cove. We are just 2km to the beach for fish and chips and the local pub and store and last fuel before Coromandel. So much to see and do on your doorstep. We love this untouched valley full of artists and fishermen, Beautiful Native bush and swimming holes in the River.

My place is close to great views and art and culture. You’ll love my place because of the ambiance, the outdoors space, and the neighbourhood. My place is good for 3 people, couples and solo adventurers. We do have a small dog (well behaved) Rodney. There is a very nice cafe just down the road at Waiomu, and the pub up the road at Tapu (meals and takeaways. Also its so quiet!! Plus your own private bathroom!
    Parking available on site
There is an excellent walk through the bush to a Kauri Grove (native trees), the coastline is fascinating with nice bays between rocky areas. There are no poisonous creatures, and swimming quiet safe. From our place you can continue around the wonderful coromandel peninsula

For a cosy private feel with views the Chalets are a great option. Featuring a riverstone hand basin and solid wood vanity and benches the decor celebrates the bush and river surroundings. They are set back about 50m uphill from the river and offer a cosy option with a kitchenette and small lounge that opens out onto a deck that overlooks the scenic bush and river valley. The covered deck means that you can enjoy BBQ's and outdoor dining all year round.

The bus itself is fantastic and comfy, the property is lush, gorgeous, peaceful and we especially enjoyed the outdoor fire bath which was the highlight of our trip! Rebecca is the best host you will ever meet, she goes way above and beyond to make an enjoyable experience for her guests. Our daughter made friends with her kids and spent the whole time running around having the best time, and even had a sleep over up at the house! We have made a lifelong friend in Rebecca and plan to visit more often, this is the dream accomodation for anyone who loves nature and unique experiences. Quintessential 1950s kiwi bach with panoramic views over looking Ruamahanga Bay, boat ramp, sandy beach and oysters on the rocks 400 metres from home. Sit among Pohutakawa trees and native birds and enjoy the sunsets, as our bach has for the last sixty years. Fifteen minutes drive from Thames, five from Tapu pub, mussel farms, Waiomu cafe and Kauri bush walks. Forty five minute drive to Coromandel, Cathedral Cove and Whitianga.
The bach is made up of a kitchen/dining room, a separate lounge, two bedrooms and a bathroom. There is an outside deck with a BBQ, and outside furniture. The bach is small but very quaint and retro.
The area has great bush walks, biking riding and fishing spots and a swimming beach at the bottom of the road. There is a fantastic cafe close by, also a dairy and local pub.

  • Friendly people. Great value in true classic kiwi style. Took us back to childhood summer holidays. We are returning this week for a longer stay. Plenty more bush tracks to explore.

  • Myself and my friend had a wonderful stay at Te Mata Lodge. The cabin was very clean and comfortable and was located right beside a lovely lake which we could swim and kayak in. The hosts were so lovely and offered lots of tips about the area. The lodge itself is situated in an ideal location- quiet and tranquil but close enough to all the hotspots the peninsula has to offer! Would definitely recommend.

  • If you are looking for a place in Te Puru, don't look further : Dave and Fiona's cottage is the perfect place to stay. The cottage is very clean, has all you need to spend an enjoyable stay and they are so lovely, doing all they can to please you. Moreover the place is very beautiful and they have a very cute cat! Thank you again Dave and Fiona!!!

    Maria2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Having booked this place very spontaneously - about 1 hour before arriving - we found it to be the perfect accommodation in the Western Coromandel. The small detached hut is renovated (everything brand new) and quite tasty. Located directly at the beachfront and less than 10 driving minutes away from Thames, we had all the options. We rated this place to be the best we had in three weeks of crossing NZ. Would come back anytime. Thanks for letting us stay.

    Markus2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Dave and Fiona's place was very comfortable, well designed and spacious. The hosts are very friendly and kindly accommodated us at the very last moment. Despite the late booking, the unit was ready for us, even with some foodie extras for snacks and breakfast. It is right next to a beachfront reserve where you can see lots of birds at high tide. Would stay again if up that way.

    Megan2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and bright place to stay, plenty of room for 3 of us, comfortable beds and great shower. And the view was amazing.

    Liz2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Dave and Fiona's place was just beautiful! Separate from the main house (just as you enter the drive) with everything we needed. Everything required for cooking and so many thoughtful touches and nothing was too much trouble, washing, drying, books to read, extra hot chocolate to name a few! The split heater was much appreciated as well, and some wonderful conversations (and road travel advice!) Would recommend - a great gateway to the Coromandel

  • Fantastic hospitality, the breakfast items are a real treat. The property has space to roam around and spend some peaceful time away from it all accompanied by the birds. The spa was a real highlight with an evening relaxing under the stars with nothing but silence. Would definitely stay again

    Ben2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • It was terrific so we stayed longer than we wanted. An absolutely perfect place to pause and explore this magical place Coromandel. You relax as soon as you enter the property. Roger brought us daily bread and eggs, everything for breakfast we found in the great and spacious kitchen. Cooking is fun here. At Jan I could go to a treatment, since then I have no back pain. Who wants the holistic, is in great hands here. 100 asterisks for Jan & Roger. Love Heike & Jürgen For German tourists I write the review in my language. Hope that's okay.

    Jürgen2019-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Kingfisher Paradise is just that! Wonderful, serene beauty not far from anything. Roger and Jan were Superhosts, very friendly, hospitable and helpful. The cottage is lovely...all the comforts of home. We traveled 9 weeks in NZ and this was by far the nicest property we stayed. Would not hesitate to book another stay...highly recommend!

    Pam2019-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jan’s place is in a delightful setting. Though it is a little out of the way for the attractions of the Coromandel, the setting makes up for this. The cottage is very comfortable and Jan & Rodger friendly. Basic breakfast supplies are provided. Highly recommended.

    John2019-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jan and Roger's cottage is among the best Air BnB properties that I've stayed. Roger greeted us warmly and showed us the cottage and grounds. The cottage was well appointed with everything necessary to make for a comfortable and convenient stay. The fresh eggs (from their property), coffee, tea, butter, and bread basket each day enabled us to enjoy fantastic breakfasts on the porch overlooking the grounds. In addition to a well-stocked kitchen, we were delighted to have access to a grill. The grounds are gorgeous, complete with a spa for relaxation. We delighted in visiting the horses, sheep and chicken on the property. In addition, the property has a beautiful fresh water swimming hole. This is the perfect place to let go and relax. Though the main house was close to the cottage, we barely knew Roger was there. He respected our privacy and always appeared at the right time, providing great tips on where to go and what to do. We would definitely recommend anyone visiting the Coromandel area to stay at this lovely cottage.

  • We chose to stay in Kathryn's place for a 2 nights getaway, and it was a wonderful place. The view of the expanse over the bay is just as beautiful as the photos show, and on the whole it was nice and cosy. As it is surrounded by trees you can expect some bugs around the property, but Kathryn is an excellent and helpful host and I would have no major concerns about staying in one of her properties again.

Suitable for families. My place is elevated and close to the beach and stream, family-friendly activities, public transport,DOC walks, boat ramp, fantastic cafe. 15 mins drive to Thames. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space, the comfy beds, the view, privacy. My place is good for couples and families (with kids). There is a trampoline for the kids and plenty of room to kick a ball. Plenty of space for parking around the back.
The house was one of the original mining offices along the coast in the 1800's, it then became a convalescent home for war veterans before becoming a private residence. It has been in our family for 3 generations.
    Very friendly relaxed community.
  • Wonderful location, convenient for lots of activities, this home has lots of character with all the modern features to make your stay relaxing. The trampoline got lots of use and there where lots of games and books to keep you entertained.

  • We had a wonderful time at this well looked after home! The beds were comfy and the linen was clean. The fireplace was amazing in the evenings and really heated up the whole place. There was plenty of garden space for the kids to run around in (unfenced, so supervised for young ones). And the swing over-looking the sea was beautiful and the trampoline was fun too! Louise is a great host who was available for any questions we had as well as tips on where to launch the boat. We'll definitely be back!

Within walking distance from a lovely beach with playground for the kids and an amazing cafe across the road. The bungalow itself is spacious with wooden floors, high ceilings. A fireplace in the lounge helps to make the house cosy and warm. The beds were comfortable. The little deck great to sit and read while the kids played in the garden which is flat and open. We will go there again. Lovely holiday home!

  • Absolutely gorgeous big property with views of the sea from the deck and the swing in the yard. Ripe loquat trees in the garden, and lots of bird life including a kereru! House has lots of character and very comfy beds. Lots to do nearby, or just relaxing at the house. Loved this place!

  • Our family loved staying at Gold Acres, it's in a fantastic location to explore the Coromandel and Thames. The kids loved the trampoline and we especially liked the comfy beds, fireplace, gas hot water (we were there in early spring), rainwater drinking water and beautiful birds outside to watch.

  • Fabulous grand old villa with huge fire, views, swing and space for kids. Gas hit water was lovely and so was sitting by the fire. Loads of room for the kids to explore. Thank you so much.

Te Puru Beach House is peacefully located on the edge of the village overlooking the beach. We strive to make it a safe haven for families with kids and our rooms are clean with modern fittings & appliances. Catch snapper and kahawai from our 2 free kayaks but bring your rods and life jackets, or pick oysters and mussels from the rocks a short way down the beach. Gather some driftwood and relax by the patio fireplace in the evening. There is a boat ramp and shop 200 metres away.
Te Puru Beach House is only 10 minutes drive from Thames and 90 minutes drive from Auckland (depending on motorway traffic). There is a dairy just up the road selling all household goods including wine & beer and hot food.
Te Puru is a friendly little coastal village with a nice beach with a swimming platform and a shop selling essential supplies. It is a perfect place for fishing and enjoying the pohutakawa trees and exploring the natural beauty of the Thames Coast.
  • Great Bach! Great location, view and amenities. Thorough enjoyed our stay.

  • Great place, very comfortable, but the road noise due to the rough road seal is very invasive. We slept at the back with ear plugs

  • This place was great, very clean, and great private area out the back - you almost feel like you are on a tropical island out there with the foliage. Would highly recommend

  • Excellent facilities, thoughtful touches, wonderful location and great for families. A great place to stay for a trip up the Thames coast, close to beach, dairy, takeaways and a great space that has everything you could need for a break away from home.

  • Great place to stay! Extremely relaxing, with everything you and your family could need. The bath tub was divine and also the location right across from the water. Do yourselves a favour and enjoy a beverage at the beach whilst the sun is setting. Couldn’t recommend more highly and my family and I will most definitely return - thank you Kingsley

We are located 10 minutes out of Thames Township. We are the Gateway to the Coromandel .Thames township has lots of cafes and pubs with local entertainment nightly.. When staying with us you are likely to be visited by fat woodpidgeons and tuis and even the coloful laurakeets from Australia come to eat the berries on our trees. Meander thru our property to the most popular of Thames beaches at the bottom of our garden.Ngarimu Bay.
Fab location close to Thames. Our space is 9 minutes from Thames. Enormous room amongst the trees. Our property runs down to the road right onto a sandy beach. We have a hot tub in which you can enjoy a glass of wine whilst soaking..
We love the walks /bird life and close proximity to the beach. Thames is. 9inutes away should we wish to go in to dine or go to a movie. Great cafés in Tbames..
  • Coro is a great host with a lovely private house with great views. Pipi and our dog Fergus hit it off. Highly recommended

Soaking in jacuzzi at night under the stars was the highlight of our trip. Thank you, Coro! We will definitely be back! P.S. Had no chance to tell you how amazing your homemade peach jam was! Yum!

  • Coro´s place is really unique and stylish. The room with en suite bathroom is spacious and private. The deck and Jacuzzi overlooking the beach is beautiful. a quick walk through the garden and you are on the beach. Coro her self is really a wonderful and interesting person to talk to. I Wish I could post the mental image I have of Coro waving us goodbye while walking her dog on the beach. Priceless experience. Highly recommend her place.

  • It was an absolutely nice experience at Coro & Pipi's place. Coro was so thoughtful to care about our breakfast, bed comfort and even a mini bar. Her place is so unique and stylish with a very beautiful garden and just a few steps down, we can reach the beach. We woke up in the morning in the melody of birds singing and refreshing aroma from her stunning garden. We definitely miss you & your dog, Pipi! Quynh & Tri

  • Coro is a fantastic host! We had a wonderful stay with interesting talks and Coro made us feel so welcome and at home! A beautiful house, artsy, clean, green, stunning views- absolutely loved staying. Definitely recommend staying at Coro's place. We also used the hottube, which was a super nice way to end our day after having hiked the pinnacle trek for 6 hours. Thank you Coro!
