Places to stay in West Bexington
CORONAVIRUS UPDATE At present we are still taking bookings. The Old Bakery is a completely self-contained, separate, and secluded apartment with its own entrance, located off the street and at the back of our house. Walking distance from Bridport town centre, it is a perfect haven for a relaxing break. It would also be ideal for a couple who wanted to self-isolate away from the city.
The flat will surprise you with its lovely sense of space. The garden room faces due east and is light and sunny - perfect for a morning yoga practice (mats provided)! It also has a single day bed, sofa, dining table, and satellite TV. There is a small, completely separate bedroom with a comfortable double bed, plus a bathroom (bath and shower) and a spacious, fully equipped open-plan kitchen: electric cooker with extractor hood, microwave, toaster, fridge and radio, plus another small dining table. There isn't a washing machine but if you are staying for a week or longer we can arrange for you to use the one in the main house. There are washing lines in the yard for drying clothes or wet camping gear, and a safe place to put bicycles overnight. We can provide a single mattress to put down on the lounge floor if you want to bring a fourth guest, and we also have a cot bed for very small children. All bed linen and towels are provided. There is a good wifi connection throughout the flat, and a mobile phone signal, but no land-line telephone. The French windows face onto the small garden area/patio, which is still under construction.
Bridport is as very popular holiday destination, being located as it is within the beautiful Jurassic Dorset coastal area. It is possible to walk to West Bay with its scenic harbour and promenade, or to drive to many other nearby places such as Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Weymouth and Dorchester. There is a twice weekly street market, a small and very interesting museum, an arts centre, the Lyric Theatre (especially good for childrens' events) and the Electric Palace cinema (more live events than film these days), together with a lively community of artists and craftspeople. We also have a vintage market on the last Sunday of the month. Bridport is also host to a film festival, the Bridport Prize for literature, a literary festival and a hat festival - in addition to the annual carnival in August!
  • Jude and Will were very nice and catered to all our need. The place was also lovely.

  • Lovely place to stay..walking distance to town, great hosts..oh and fabulous dogs. Jude and Will are very friendly and generous with their welcome pack. Spacious kitchen and living room with lots of appliances. All you could need. Would recommend staying here if visiting Bridport. Thank you for a lovely few days away!

  • Will and Jude were great hosts and the accommodation was perfect for two plus a dog. Great location for the town and coast at West Bay and great dog walks in the countryside.

  • That value and flexible, laid back hosts. We have stayed twice now and will be back.

    Sarah2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a cosy and attractive one bed ground floor apartment at the rear of a period house just a short step from central Bridport. Pluses - very well equipped kitchen, pleasant neutral decor, you could just walk in and feel at home, lovely and warm (I visted in Januaryl) Minuses - street parking in short supply, access through the garage which when I visited was full of bicycles. So you may need a torch. Hosts are charming, friendly dog.

  • Abbotsburry is beautiful and very well located. The same goes for Jackie's house with the wonderful garden. Usually we book the whole accommodation through Airbnb, so we are self catering. I was skeptical how that would work out. It was great. Jackie spoiled us all around. She and her husband were very open and very helpful; We all felt very well. Highly Recommended.

  • Thank you Susie and Hywel for a great stay! We had a lovely time in this beautiful part of the world. Communication was good throughout. We ate at The Kings Arms on the first night and had an excellent meal, also nice to sit by the fire place (5 min walk), we also enjoyed breakfast at the farm shop (very short walk) and Susie made us breakfast one morning which was fantastic. We did a good bit of walking along the coast path. Thanks again, would come back again for sure. Christina and Adam

A unique private space with everything you could need to enjoy a break near the Broardchurch coast.
We are a short walk from the Broadchurch coast. In fact the house was in the first trailer for the program. The market town of Bridport is about a mile and a half away and has a thriving saturday market and antiques area.
  • This space is so delightful. It’s a flat above a garage. Was warm and comfy. There is off street parking and kitchen facilities. Vicki is a great host!

  • Easy access, a very patient and accommodating host. Thoughtful touches concerning dietary requirements. Convenient location, private off-street parking, warm and comfortable, plenty of amenities. A little noise from proximity to road, otherwise, very quiet at night.

  • I was really surprised at quite how stylish and cosy this studio apartment was. We only stayed a night, as we were attending a wedding, but would of happily stayed a week in this self-contained accommodation. Vicki's communication was really good.

    Sean2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect location, just a quick walk from West Bay. Lovely cosy converted garage with everything you could need. Wonderfully comfortable beds and sofa. The inside felt much larger than we had expected, with full kitchen and shower. There was milk in the fridge, and a bottle of wine which was very much appreciated. Lovely stay. Will definitely stay again next time we fancy a bit of fossil hunting.

    Richard2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my two children stayed for two nights over half term. Vicki’s place was easy to find and within walking distance of West Bay. The space was really comfortable and had everything we needed. We would stay there again.

Either a spacious double bed room or one with twin singles. Max 2 people in a very old farmhouse. Private bathroom, bath & hand shower. Barn for bikes etc. Free parking on the drive. Central in Abbotsbury, a small, pretty village near Jurassic Coastal Path, Chesil Beach, Ridgeway Walk. Simple breakfast: cereals, toast, a boiled egg and tea or coffee. The main road may be busy at night with local farm traffic. NB we charge by the room - see 'Lovely Old House' for 2 bedroom option max 4 people.
You have a choice of a room with a double bed or a different room with 2 singles ( If you want two separate rooms for up to 4 people see /www.airbnb.co.uk/2404112/details) in our old farmhouse, which is in the centre of Abbotsbury Village, on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset and access to the Chesil Beach and the Ridgeway Walk just above the village. We provide bed and breakfast, we do not offer self-catering or cooking facilities but guests are welcome to boil a kettle for tea or coffee at any time in our cosy kitchen. There is no TV or kettle in the bedrooms. Parking is off the road on our driveway behind the house. This is an ideal place to get away from the hurly burly of city life. Great for walkers, cyclists, golfers or sailors or people who just want to relax and explore the beautiful country and seaside. Abbotsbury has many more hours of sunshine than the UK average because we have a micro-climate, thus there is the local award winning Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Gardens. Nearby are Weymouth and Portland with the Sailing Academy in one direction or West Bay, venue for 'Broadchurch' and the nearby lovely golf course, and Lyme Regis in the other (see useful website gps-routes), or visitors to the many beautiful gardens in the area, including the Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Gardens. There is also the Swannery here where the cygnets are due to hatch during early May. This is a charming and vibrant village to relax in, with quaint houses, country walks and is on the famous Jurassic Coast Path as well as the Ridgeway path. There are beautiful walks to St Catherine's Chapel, the Fleet and the coast. Our part of the Chesil beach is used extensively by fishermen, but is unsuitable for swimming, and from there you can walk along the shore for miles. On the way you might find a fossil! If you are interested in surfing or sailing the well known Sailing Academy is about a twenty minute drive away, and we can store your equipment in our barn overnight. Abbotsbury is unusual because although small, (only about a hundred cottages) it has a number of thriving businesses: a fabulous farm shop selling local meat, cheeses, butter & eggs, two shops; two pubs; teashops serving delicious Dorset cream teas or apple cake; an art gallery, Dansel, well known for a large range of local craftsmen's products in wood; a post office; and a bus, X53, service running between Exeter and Poole, via Lyme Regis, Bridport - a pleasant market town, West Bay and Weymouth, a 200 years old seaside resort. Suppers or lunches at the Ilchester Arms pub or the Swan Inn, both a few doors away, or a short drive to the Manor House at West Bexington, and village pubs at Punkenowle, Langton Herring or Burton Bradstock. The nearest towns are: Dorchester, Bridport, Weymouth, West Bay, each about eleven miles away. Slightly further along the coast are Charmouth and Lyme Regis, Durdle Door, Lulworth, Wool, Wareham. Further inland are well known places such as Cerne Abbas, Mapperton, Forde Abbey, Beaminster. Thomas Hardy has long association with this county, as he lived and wrote here, and set his novels and poems around rural life in the lovely farming countryside and small market towns. Sorry, we can't accommodate children under seven years old as there is a small stream in the garden and an ungated driveway, besides which our house is not well adapted for toddlers. Also sorry we don't accept pets. There is ample parking on our driveway behind the house.
The highlights: The beauty of the countryside made world famous by Thomas Hardy; the dramatic coastal views and walks; the mild sub-tropical weather; the ancient sites in the landscape from bronze age, the Roman invasion right the way through to WW2; our lovely farm shop which supplies very locally sourced food; fresh fish caught locally off Portland Bill, and available in many nearby restaurants; a post office and village shop open every day including Sundays and Christmas Day; two pubs. A lively church, remainder from the old Abbey site, where many weddings take place, and one can hear the bell ringers practice at least once a week. A nearby popular wedding/party barn.
  • Barbara and her husband are a lovely couple with a gorgeous house. We had a short stay (one night) when we visited the Jurassic Coast for a fossil hunting trip. The house was lovely and our room/bath room were nice and clean. The breakfast in the morning was good and we had nice chats! Barbara gave us helpful tips were to go and what to see (the little chapel on the hill in Abbotsbury is worth a visit and you gave a great view). Thank you and I definitely recommend Barbara's Airbnb!

  • Splendid b&b with very hospitable couple!

    Floris2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately, stormy weather prevented me from getting to Abbotsbury to actually stay with Barbara's place, so I can't review the actual place (though I feel pretty certain it is lovely). What I can do though, is review how lovely it was to deal with Barbara. She's very flexible, reasonable and kind!

Fall asleep to the sound of waves on shingle in this beautiful, hand-crafted oak shepherd’s hut. In winter the Hut is cosy with double glazing, a wood burner plus radiator. In summer relax on the deck to enjoy the stunning vista of Lyme Bay from Portland to Golden Cap and beyond or use the gas BBQ. Nestling in our garden, you can be on Chesil Beach and the South West Coast Path in 30 seconds via a private path. Watch magnificent sunsets over the bay and enjoy stargazing in our dark skies.
The hut was built in September 2017 by Blackdown Shepherd Huts of Ilminster, Somerset. The interior and exterior wood cladding is French oak with sheep’s wool insulation. Inside, the main area contains a dining table and bench seats, woodburner and kitchenette with sink, combination oven and fridge. There is a cupboard with hanging rail for clothes and a shower room and WC. The dining table folds down and a full size double bed pulls out. There is a USB socket by the bed, electric lighting, a gas boiler for hot water and alternative heating by oil-filled radiator. Outside there is a decking area with a dining table and chairs plus sun loungers for those warm days and a gas BBQ. Guests have sole use of the back garden. Parking is on a paved drive with a path to the hut. It is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems as there are 2 steps to the decking and 4 more up to the hut itself.
The hut adjoins a field and is located behind the the last in the row of chalets that front onto Chesil Beach - an 18 mile long shingle beach running from West Bay to Portland that is part of the 95-mile Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has clear views of Lyme Bay from Portland to Golden Cap and beyond to Start Point on a clear day. Behind are fields and the hills of the South Dorset Ridgeway. • This is a fabulous find. All your home comforts and more. The place is spotless and very well decorated and all the extra touches from Michele make this a special place to stay no matter the weather.

    Lisa2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical place . The Shepherds Hut is special without the added extras provided by Michele but they made it a cut above other places we have stayed . The setting is outstanding although storm Dennis was a little too close for comfort at times ! The hut itself is beautifully made and is calm cosy and spotlessly clean . We will be back ! Kate and Andy

  • The shepherds hut is stunning. Michele’s touches made our stay extra special. The local produce and home made goodies were a real treat. Michele was very accommodating especially as I am vegan. Even Storm Dennis with ragging last night, we felt warm and cosy. We will be making a return trip. Highly recommended.

    Sandra2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely overnight stay at the Shepherd’s Hut. It’s really high-quality & the tasty treats provided were much appreciated. We had chosen the same weekend to visit the coast as Storm Dennis had, though the hut was cosy & warm so absolutely no worries there.

    Allie2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Michele's shepherds hut is absolutely fantastic. A very short walk to the sea, we enjoyed it immensely. All the little personal touches make it the cosiest place to stay. We had dinner at The Club House at the end of the road, excellent food. Can't recommend the shepherds hut enough :)

    Sara2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful hut. Perfect place to relax and listen to the sea.

    Ali2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic place to stay. Such a great Shepherds Hut, it is like a Tardis!!! We arrived in heavy rain and tick fog.....met with fresh cake, croissants, bread, milk, fresh Orange juice and a full range of tea and coffee etc.....then lit the log burner!!! A great stay from start to finish. It is spotlessly clean, everything you need is there. The hut itself is such a quality piece of work , you can t help but love it. ...And all this 100 yards from the sea. Highly recommended.

  • A great welcome from Julie and Mark into their farmhouse in the countryside. Breakfast supplies were great as well as a range of good coffees! Comfortable and warm throughout this friendly short stay

  • Thankyou, we loved our stay

    Sarah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Julie and Mark are fantastic hosts. They made myself and my little nervous rescue dog, Patzi, feel so at home and welcome. Julie was kind enough to suggest I use the large room for no extra cost as I was there for the week. The room was comfortable and spacious with a sofa and freeview tv as well as large wardrobe and bedside drawers with dimmable lamps. The double bed was comfortable and I slept really well from the first night which is unusual for me. Both the bathroom and kitchen are clean and easy to use. They have a lovely sized shower and well equipped kitchen with a separate fridge for guests. There’s free internet which worked really well the whole week. Julie and Mark have a real love and extensive knowledge of the area and have tonnes of information and maps galore. They provide breakfast free of charge which is a great addition. Although they have two lovely dogs, Julie and Mark are very thoughtful and considerate of guests who may be a little nervous of them. My nervous little dog didn’t see them at all the whole week and was as comfortable as she gets in a new place. Julie’s place is ideal for a peaceful getaway, with beautiful countryside and coast nearby. I recommend it as a great base from which to explore this beautiful part of the country.

  • Excellent hosts, they have managed to create such a comfortable atmosphere I actually felt at home. Nothing was to much trouble and they were really laid back and friendly. I would definitely return and thoroughly recommend.

  • Julie and Mark were fabulous hosts and made us feel very welcome! We stayed in a family room with the kids in winter and it was warm, clean and comfortable. They were very relaxed about our muddy shoes and thoughtfully helped us dry them after our long wet walks! We had a lovely stay.

  • Anne’s caravan was in a lovely quiet park, just a couple of minutes from the beach. The space was clean and tidy and Anne had left us some bread, milk and scones for our arrival. The dogs enjoyed their stay and we had a great time fishing from the beach in the afternoons. Would definitely recommend this caravan! Thanks Anne!

  • Had a lovely short break in West Bexington. Weather wasn't great but that was out of everyone's control. It was so nice to have such a clean, cozy place to hanker down. Anne really went the extra mile to make us comfortable. We will definitely be making plans to come again.

    Natasha2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place to stay. A lovely clean caravan in a great location with amazing views. The only downside was no internet with a teenager! You can buy some in reception, we didn’t and it actually turned out to be a very good thing and we had a wonderful time without it. A great place to chill out and relax and do as much or as little as you want. We will definitely be back.

    Julie2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We have had an amazing time in Anne’s caravan. We arrived after a long journey to find the caravan spotlessly clean it’s really lovely & spacious inside. Anne had also left us milk, bread & scones which was a wonderful surprise. The caravan had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable & the kids slept in most days which they never do at home! The site is clean, nice & quiet & perfect for dogs. The walk to beach takes about 10-15 mins it’s a quiet stretch of pebble beach, not really suitable for swimming in when we visited as the sea was too rough there. West bay is about a 10 min car journey away & would highly recommend going there, lovely sea side town with a great sandy beach beach perfect for the kids to swim in. We will definitely be staying here again. Thank you Anne x

    Joanne2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was helpful regarding booking and check in. The caravan itself was spotless, it looked brand new inside and had everything you needed including loads of dvds, games and books plus a lovely touch of bread, milk, scones and lollies in the freezer. The site is quiet and couldn't have better views. There are no entertainments etc which is our preference, just a small shop and lovely countryside. It is a 10 minute walk across fields to Chesil Beach which isn't suitable for swimming here but is a beautiful spot. Weymouth is a 25 minute drive and there are quieter beaches nearby including Cogden Beach where we had a whole stretch to ourselveswhich was perfect forour nervous rescue dog. Lots of places to visit within a short drive and a pub within walking distance. Highly recommended, thanks Anne

  • Very quiet and clean 4-star campsite, set back on the coast; beautiful sea view from the caravan, generous, cozy and clean - luxurious camping holidays on a quiet place (no children's playground oä - rather older people). But near many great attractions, beautiful beaches and of course in the middle of the Jurassic Coast! I can highly recommend, especially for families with children, who also can talk well;)

Enjoy beautiful sea views of the Jurassic Coast from our lovely bedroom with king size bed and en-suite bathroom. Located in the village of West Bexington, surrounded by unspoilt countryside in walking distance to the Chesil beach. We offer our guests a comfortable stay in tranquil West Dorset.
Two Wings is our family home in the small coastal village of West Bexington between Burton Bradstock and Abbotsbury, thirteen miles west of Dorchester and Weymouth and six miles south east of Bridport and West Bay. The village is on a hill that slopes down to the unspoilt Chesil Beach. On a clear day views extend from Portland Bill in the east, around Lyme Bay including Golden Cap (the highest cliff in the south of England), past the red cliffs of Devon, across to Dartmoor and right round to Start Point in the west.
We are surrounded by fields which are part of Tamarisk Farm, which was amongst the first farms certified by the Soil Association and has been growing wholesome organic food since the 1960s. West Bexington has a small coastal reserve which offers a welcome resting place for a wide range of migrant bird species, and a permanent home for a host of interesting wildlife, butterflies and moths. It is a popular area for walkers, with West Bexington being situated on the Jurassic coast section of the South West coast path. The famous Chesil bank is a well known fishing beach. In walking distance from our home is the Manor hotel, a relaxed 16th century Manor house overlooking the sea with restaurant , pub, al fresco terrace and gardens. Another popular restaurant in the village is The Club House which focusses on locally sourced fish and produce .
  • Lovely en-suite bedroom with stunning views of Chesil beach from your bed. Separate entrance and garden made it perfect for our dog too. Lovely walks on the doorstep, and a nice pub plus a good restaurant in walking distance. Very nice breakfasts too.

  • The photos do not do justice to this special place; I'm wary of writing too much as I'd prefer to keep it secret!! Sue and Henry were perfect hosts, welcoming us and our dog Wilf on arrival. The room was large with the most fabulous views over Chesil Beach - Sue had thoughtfully provided fresh milk on arrival so we could have a cuppa on the little terrace in the sunshine before we went on a beautiful walk. The bed was super comfortable and the large bathroom immaculate and well equipped, as was the room with thoughtful little touches like cookies and a toaster for the morning. We walked to the Manor House pub and had a delicious supper and then had the most enormous continental breakfast delivered in the morning by Sue, very high quality ingredients and much appreciated. We will definitely be back to this charming village and to stay in what felt like a luxury hotel suite.

Downstairs is a large living room with beautiful stone fireplace, said to have been built using stone from the nearby abbey. There is a separate sunroom for dining, and a modern kitchen and downstairs bathroom with bath and shower over. Upstairs is a separate toilet and two bedrooms with pretty views over the back garden and main street. Outside is a small garden with both a grass and patio area with table and chairs for enjoying the sun! The kitchen is well equipped with microwave, washing machine and fridge freezer but there are plenty of lovely places to eat out locally.
The village of Abbotsbury is very pretty made up entirely of traditional stone and some thatched cottages. There are a selection of tea rooms to choose from, two pubs, art galleries and a shop. There is also the amazing Abbotsbury Botanical Gardens that have a wonderful October event - The Enchanted Illuminations, and Swannery within easy walking distance as well as a children's farm. The Dorset Coastal Path is virtually on the door step and many excellent fishing spots along the beach can be found close by. Just a short drive away (with some stunning views of the coast) you can visit the fishing harbour of West Bay with it's many places to eat and drink. Next to West Bay is the bustling market town of Bridport which has everything you would need including large supermarkets, chemists and a weekly market. In the other direction lies Weymouth with many restaurants, shops and bars and it's famous sea front.
  • Perfect place to visit the coast, gorgeous village and lovely walks 👍

  • This is the perfect base to walk to the local beach or drive to Lyme Regis, West Bay or any of the other local sites you wish to visit. Great to get back and put the log burner on.

  • Superb value for money cottage in the heart of Abbotsbury village right ont eh high street. Just 5 second walk to the farm shop, 20 seconds to the pub, 45 seconds to tea rooms and 60 seconds to the Spar shop. Add in the numerous dog walks, local rev field and kids play area, church, old chapel, wonderfully friendly locals, beautiful countryside and houses, this village has it all. Naomi’s cottage is cute and warm with log burner and central heating. Very clean, comfy and cosy, and has all the kitchen essentials covered. The dogs had plenty of space to relax after the long wet walks, and the spare dog blankets came in handy when we’d soaked through our own drying them both! Nice hot shower/ bath in the lovely bathroom at the back of the kitchen. Comfy firm mattresses and plenty of quality pillows. The TV, range of DVDs, board games and WiFi were useful for the wet weekend we had! Only odd thing was lack of blinds in the bathrooms, especially the upstairs toilet which has a low clear window right behind the toilet. Very revealing for night time trips to the loo! Fortunately the little garden is fully enclosed all round so hopefully no voyeurs caught a cheeky flash. Would throughly recommend Naomi’s cottage for couples or a small family!

  • My girlfriend, nine-month-old son and I had a lovely three-night stay in Abbeystone Cottage. It’s a great space for a small family to use as a base when exploring the area and we really made the most of the living area, as the big sofas blocked some routes off for our crawling son!! Some of the floors upstairs are slightly sloped and the doorways are quite low, but you soon adapt. It’s nice and quirky rather than any inconvenience. It was very cold when we were there (early Feb) so we used the heating a lot and found that the downstairs bathroom remained cold. Again, not the end of the world and we still gelt comfortable bathing our son in there, it just means the floors are very cold and you’d be wise to have clothes ready on one of the radiators for when you come out. As others have mentioned, the shower lacks power but does the job, so isn’t an issue for a short stay. We loved our time in Abbotsbury, it’s very picturesque, and will look into a return visit in a few years time. Also: We cooked breakfasts and dinners in the cottage and made the most of the farm shop two doors down (great bacon, sausages and longhorn burgers!) and Spar round the corner for essentials. Both pubs in the village are nice, though we spent more time in the Ilchester Arms and would strongly recommend visitors do the 1.25 mile walk to Chesil Beach down the pathway alongside Spar. The scenery is spectacular in parts and it’s only a bit muddy (don’t bring the buggy!! We used a papoose).

  • A fabulous cottage in an equally fabulous location. Highly recommended.

    Julie2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We love staying here. It's spacious, cosy, in a great location and there's a pub and farm shop within 30 seconds! The perfect place for a cosy winter break and exploring the coast!

    Daniel2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • A charming little cottage, clean, tidy and cosy, with everything you might need for a comfortable stay, checking in was a breeze. Well situated in picturesque Abbotsbury, a little farm shop right next door for stocking up on good quality local produce, and a nice pub across the road to relax in. Bring your walking boots as there are some stunning walks through the hills and along the beaches. If you have time, a short drive to Seatown to do a spot of fossil hunting on the beach there, followed by lunch in the Anchor Inn is highly recommended. It was our second visit here, so thanks Naomi for having us again, we’ll definitely return again soon. Lovely touch putting the Christmas tree up in the living room! Alex & Katy

A beautifully presented fully self-contained annexe situated in a peaceful location on the outskirts of Bridport. We are located on the edge of Bothenhampton Nature Reserve. Great walking area and only 1.6 miles away from West Bay and 1.2 miles from the centre of Bridport.
The Annexe is light and airy, with a large living area, cosy bedroom and shower room with shampoos, hair dryer and towels all provided. The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric cooker and hob, fridge, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. Teas, coffee and continental breakfast provided. You step out onto a patio area overlooking a secluded garden. It is peaceful, quiet and in an excellent location to enjoy walking and exploring the area. It is all newly refurbished and furnished to a high standard. Please note that our location and situation can affect WiFi strength.
The house is situated in a quiet area just on the outskirts of Bridport and only a 10-15 minute walk from a thriving market town famous for rope and net making dating back centuries. The town with restaurants, pubs and a variety of craft shops and outlets has a busy and friendly vibe. We are about a 1 mile from the picturesque harbour at West Bay with restaurants and beaches which is central to the famous Jurassic coast. There are some fabulous walks right on the doorstep.
  • Beautiful annex, really friendly warm welcome.

    (Marie) Clare2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • A really great place to stay. We stayed for four nights and found the annex to be just right for us. It was clean, warm, well equipped and in a really nice quiet location 20 minutes walk from West Bay or the centre of Bridport. Communication with our hosts was excellent and the supplies of breakfast, tea, coffee and milk were a nice touch. We would highly recommend this as a base for a stay in the Bridport area.

    Malcolm2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • I had a fantastic short break staying in the Annexe. It was easy enough to find the property using the directions sent over by Pete, plenty of parking on the driveway. Lovely welcome from Pete who took me round the annexe and showed my how everything worked. The annexe itself is stylish, spacious and very clean. Breakfast hamper is always a lovely touch. Prime location for exploring the Dorset countryside, particularly worth heading over to Burton Bradstock, West Bay and Lyme Regis. I’ll definitely be returning on my next Dorset adventure!

    Sam2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay in The Annexe and once again we were very comfortable and well provided for. The Annexe is lovely; beautifully clean and nicely furnished, with milk and some food items left for us. Peter welcomed us when we arrived and afterwards he and Linda provided that great balance of allowing us privacy but with the assurance we could contact them at any time if we had any queries or needed help. The location is ideal for us; Bridport within walking distance, pretty villages and other areas to explore and some lovely walks. The break provided us with much needed relaxation and a breath of sea air. We shall be back.

    Stephen2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was infact a SUPER HOST! The hamper was a lovely touch. Ste our fabricator enjoyed his stay and said himself it was ''So much better than a hotel, a home from home whilst away with work'' Thankyou again!

    Graham2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Well, where to start? I booked a few days away for my wife's birthday last year and absolutely fell in love with the place (there's another review further down the page from that visit). Just like last time, travelling barely a few hundred yards off the A35 and into Bothenhampton is akin to entering another world. Time slows down, noise of cars & lorries hurtling down the main road behind you quickly fades into the chirping of birds, and all of a sudden you feel a release as the stress of town life floats from you like a balloon. Once again Pete and Linda have been marvellous hosts. We had a good long chat on the way about how they've done over the past year, and were surprised to hear that we were their first returning guests. The apartment was just as we remembered it, with the only major change being that a slimline dishwasher now sits in the kitchen. Super handy as our evenings were even more relaxed without having to worry about the washing up. Again we had all the things we could have wanted for breakfast and more, fresh bread, butter & jam, cereal, granola, even a box of eggs. Most welcome was a bottle of Hobgoblin, and pre-mixed gin & tonic keeping the milk company in the fridge, suffice to say they were much appreciated that evening! It's little thoughtful touches like this that make a stay extra special, also things like the message halfway through our stay just to check that everything's okay with the apartment and if we needed any more bread and milk. In conclusion, if bright lights and city noise are your thing then go find a travelodge (I'd also ask what on earth you're doing in Bridport). If however you're looking for peace and quiet, if you enjoy looking out of the window at night to see stars rather than the incandescent glow of street lamps, yet want to be within a short walk of both the town centre and the south west coast path, then The Annexe is perfect.

    Sam2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Linda and Peters annexe and felt instantly at home as soon as Peter welcomed us in. The space itself is very cosy and was spotlessly clean and fresh with everything you need for a great stay. Linda and Peter also left some lovely extras in the kitchen which were much appreciated, and stocked the bathroom with toiletry essentials. We also found the location great being half way between Weymouth and Lyme Regis, and would recommend the Bothenhampton nature reserve walk on the doorstep, which has beautiful views over West Bay. We wouldn’t hesitate to book again or recommend to others.

I have recently brought this cosy little beamed mill cottage (1840) with an open plan front room and new fitted kitchen. It is above the river and overlooks fields and sheep out the back. There are beautiful walks close by. The nearest beach of west Bay is just over 1 mile away.It is 1 of 4 terraced cottages and is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the lovely market town of Bridport. It is a great base to explore the Jurrasic coast line, and if you are a walker you will love the location.
My home is small , comfotable and a little quirky! It is set back slightly from the A35 which is a busy road in the summer, but the back spare room is quiet as it is above the river and overlooks countyside. On the street parking can be found in the road opposite.
Bridport has some great eating places and cafe's. There is alot going on music and arts wise, especially at The Electric Palace, a wonderful art deco building. There is also an arts center and many great pubs. The shops are not all chain stores, which makes it an old fashioned town, with a great market on a Wednesday and Saturday. Lyme Regis is just 15 minutes derive

Hygge garden cabin with lovely views. No cars or buildings in sight. At night you’ll drift off to lowing cows and tinkling stream. Walk through our unspoilt village of Swyre, to the beach where you can hop in the sea or simply admire the Jurassic coast. To fill a rainy day, try eating all that foodie Dorset has to offer or head to a pub for a Palmers ale, before staggering home to snuggle in front of a blazing fire. The cabin is nestled at the foot of our house. It faces into a meadow beneath.
The bathroom has a rain fall shower and underfloor heating. The kitchen is fine for chilling your wine, making a cuppa and toasting your tea cakes! For top notch grub, there are pubs within walking distance. The ceiling is quite low (193cm/6ft4 at the lowest point), so the tallest amongst you will, I'm afraid, want to remain seated or lying down (!) The garden is shared with us. Neighbouring garden also has room for two more guests at The Snug, coming soon but not yet listed on Airb&b. I'm morally opposed to ironing bedsheets-well ironing anything to be honest. All sheets will be washed beautifully and line-dried but may have the odd wrinkle. Please note that we do not have any cooking facilities, nor do we have any intention of getting any because we don't have the time to clean them and because I know they can make a place smell!
Our beautiful village of Swyre is unspoilt and largely unknown by holiday makers heading for the coast. Our nearest beach is therefore pretty quiet, even on the busiest bank holiday, especially if you can walk 1.5 miles through the fields.
  • Absolutely perfect stay, beautiful cabin-took our breath away when we walked in. Such lovely touches like fresh baked bread delivered to your door in the morning and the fire lit for when we arrived. Perfect location for exploring nearby towns like west bay , Bridport and Lyme Regis. Amazing view to wake up to, so tranquil and relaxing, we will definitely return!

    Hannah2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant stay. Everything as described, hosts great. Fresh bread for breakfast was a nice touch. Perfect location for walks to beach and afar.

  • An amazing place to escape for a weekend. Such a great space and within walking distance of the sea. Amazing hospitality and even got some freshly baked bread in the morning.

  • This place is absolutely lovely. We didn't want to leave! The beautiful views of rolling hills and sheep, the wood fire, the freshly baked bread brought to us by the lovely hosts in the morning, sheepskin rugs and candles... Heaven on long winter mornings and evenings. Very close to the beach and some beautiful walks. Could have stayed here for far longer than we did!

    Leilia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is absolutely beautiful - it’s really got that wow factor, especially with the amazing log burner. Impressive bathroom with a rainforest shower. Fresh bread in the morning was a lovely gesture and we also had crisps, butter, jam, milk, fudge and mince pies laid out for us. Couldn’t recommend enough!

    Ellen2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful two night stay in this fabulous cabin. So cosy, clean and a perfect place to unwind. The fresh bread in the morning is a lovely touch! If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be booking another stay.

    Emily2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Would not hesitate to recommend this property. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay over xmas, the photos don't do it complete justice, the property and surrounding area is even better than we expected - particularly as we arrived late on xmas eve, to find the log fire already lit, ready for us. As wonderful as the property is, the hosting still managed to stand out further. Kitty maintained good regular contact prior to arriving and was really helpful with a problem we had on the website. Throughout the stay, nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel like family, rather than guests, by Magnus. On top of a number of festive treats left for us, we were even provided with fresh home-made bread on xmas day! Our only negative was having to leave. This property and the hosting sets a standard that most won't get close to. Thanks both!

    Ali2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin. The pictures do not even do it justice. Peaceful and beautifully arranged. The log burner was a dream on a cold winter's evening! Kitty brought freshly baked bread the next morning.

  • Wonderful views of harbour and beach and everything you could want or need was provided in kitchen and comfy bed and very nice bottle of wine and biscuits and lovely area to walk round!

  • A cosy flat with everything you need. Fitted kitchen with pots, pans & crockery if you don’t go out to eat. Great powerful shower. Comfortable bed. Lovely gift of wine, biscuits & milk when we arrived too. West Bay isn’t the biggest place but there are some lovely pubs to visit & beautiful views. Shame we couldn’t get a booking at the Station Kitchen, that looks awesome. You must check out 100 Nautical, a micro pub, tucked away, but such a great find if you like craft ale, cider & they sell spirits too. Perfectly located near the South West coastal path. Be warned it’s uphill to start!! You can easily walk to Bridport too, along the old railway line. Bridport is a bustling town which had a vintage market on Saturday when we went. A lovely trip & lovely property.

Our trip coincided with strorm Dennis and the apartment was a lovely, cosy refuge to retire to after a day in the elements. Very well equiped. Arrived to find some biscuits and wine which was a welcoming touch. All in all a very pleasant stay.

The cottage itself was gorgeous, really cosy and friendly with little cute touches. I was concerned we'd be cold, especially in March but the fireplace was lovely and warm. This small double ensuite accommodation is located just 100yards from the historic Jurassic coast. It is only one room and NO cooking facilities, however there is a mini fridge, electric kettle and a toaster. Totally self contained There is WiFi but because of the thickness of the walls the signal is best by the doorway
    It's closeness to the sea
100yards from the coast path. Also the Hive beach cafe. And the newly furnished Seaside Boarding House
  • Mags and Chu are the most amazing hosts. They went above and beyond to get the room ready for me, even though they had come from a long haul flight. The room, as others have suggested is bigger than it looks and has everything you need. It’s warm and cosy and the with such great pubs and cafes around, I was very glad I didn’t have cooking facilities, although the fridge is just right for milk etc. The beach path is opposite the door and the two minute walk to the sea is a delight. Such a beautiful area and such kind, genuine people, I can’t wait to go back very soon. Thank you for being wonderful hosts and making me feel so welcome. See you soon!

    Honey2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Mags's place for the weekend as we were running a race along the Jurassic Coast. The en-suite room is close to the village centre and in a very nice setting. Easy to get to pubs, shop and the beach. The room is comfy and had everything we needed for a short stay. I would recommend Mags's place for a short stay to explore this area of Dorset.

  • A great find perfectly situated in Burton Bradstock. Our friends couldn’t quite believe it when we said we were 5 minutes walk a cross a field to the beach! They were all very jealous. Especially as they had all paid twice as much for very ordinary b&b etc much further afield!

    Alan2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to Mags place. It’s in a beautiful location with good pubs, restaurants and a beautiful coast line. The shower has also improved since our last visit. Would recommend a visit.

The cabin is simple but snug and beautifully positioned to make the most of the lovely rural views. There's a bedroom, bathroom and patio. No space for a kitchen but there are lots of great pubs and restaurants within walking distance, and guests are welcome to have picnics, BBQs and fires. The garden leads down to meadows and a track leads down to the beach (1.5 miles). Going on foot usually guarantees you'll have it pretty much to yourself, especially during the week.
A simple but cosy summer house in spacious gardens nestled in Dorset's beautiful Bride Valley. Just 1.5 miles from the stunning Jurassic Coast, the Snug is serene and quiet with easy access to all the beauty West Dorset has to offer. Access to the cabin is through a shared drive and garden so the chances are you'll bump into someone en route. We have children, and there's children's play equipment in the garden.
Swyre is a small village in West Dorset on the Jurassic Coast. There are 3 pubs within walking distance, along with a great local farm shop at Modbury. The lovely town of Bridport is 6 miles down the coast, accessible by car or by bus. The county town of Dorchester is 13 miles to the East, where there are train stations serving London and Bristol. I work in Dorchester so let me know if you need lifts to or from the station and I'm sure we'll be able to help.
  • We had the most lovely stay at The Snug. It was the perfect place to stay at whilst we were visiting the coast. It was absolutely sparkling clean and so cosy and warm. The view across the garden and fields was beautiful. It had everything we needed too. Such great value for money. I've spent a lot more money on hotel rooms which were no way near as lovely as The Snug. We will definitely stay there again when we visit the coast. Thank you for making our little weekend getaway a bit more special.

    Helen2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really secluded, really beautiful. Just what I needed. The view from the bed was beautiful. Thank you!

    Natasha2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely people and a lovely, cozy place! I had a warm welcome and a delightful night in the Snug (as well as a tasty meal at the Crown). I was initially concerned because I was without a car, but it was a quick easy walk from the bus stop and a perfect location for a walk to Abbotsbury the next day. I'd happily recommend to anyone doing a trip through Dorset.

    Steven2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for a wonderful. Peaceful cozy stay. Will definitely stop again. A short drive to everywhere of interest. A lovely little pad

  • Perfect place, amazing view, super comfortable in all aspect! Becky and John are really nice and helpful!

    Naomi2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at The Snug, a perfect spot for two, peaceful and beautiful. It was relaxing to not use the car, as we walked to The Crown and discovered the paths around about. We had 2 great meals cooked on the firepit/BBQ. Very touched to return after walking back through the evening fields to find you'd lit the tea lights through the garden and there was a roaring fire in the firepit. It was a perfect welcome home.

    Juliet2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great little spot. Everything you need and all incredibly clean and comfortable :)

    Dom2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Snug is the perfect getaway for beautiful views, peace and quiet. The cosy cabin has everything you need, it’s clean, well presented and the cold beers in the fridge on arrival are a great touch. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.

  • We had such a lovely time staying in this fabulous house. The location is perfect for exploring the Jurassic Coast and is just a short walk from the beach. The rooms are very spacious and there's a nice garden too. Our group was comprised of two families and so having an en suite bathroom for every bedroom was wonderfully convenient! Our host offered us lots of useful information about the area which was really helpful. It was very easy to feel at home in this house and we'd very much recommend it.

    Marc2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place was a brilliant find - even better than in the pictures. I was with my husband, our 2month old baby and my husbands mum and dad. We wanted a base for a few days to explore the Jurassic Coast, we had a car so were prepared to drive around the area. Jo's place was exactly what we were looking for. We spent a day in the village and on hive beach (hive beach cafe was lovely and is maybe a 20min walk - I would have been quite happy taking a book there each day and looking out at at sea!). The house is a short walk into the village and to the local pubs. The village and pubs are lovely. I would definitely reccomend.

    Lizzie2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay at this lovely house in a fantastic location. The perfect place for our family, age 2 to 72! Lovely and clean, comfortable beds, great showers and well stocked kitchen. Hopefully we’ll be back!

One room on top floor with ensuite, in the heart of Bridport. Comfortable super king size bed with en-suite (toilet & bath).
Our space is quite quirky with lots of paintings on the walls. It's a very old cottage so creaky floorboards and flagstone floors. We renovated it a few years ago - there are a few skirting boards that still need painting!
Seconds walk from great pubs and cafes & range of shops, in the heart of Bridport.
  • Angie and Pete were very welcoming. The room was comfortable and clean. Tea, fresh milk, plates and cutlery in the room were a nice touch. Nice en-suite. Very good location in centre of town yet room - being at the back - was quiet.

    Keith2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Angie’s too floor room is a perfect place for visiting Bridport. She is well-connected with local life and is a welcoming host. The accommodation is everything you might need and close to everything else.

  • Couldn't have been better. I got to Bridport late, but communication had been great and there was a warm welcome waiting. Great quirky attic space in a beautiful home packed to the rafters with art, warmth and love. Great tips about the town. Really laid back. Thoughtful coolbag of teas, coffees, milk and biscuits - just what I needed after a long journey.

We have good neighbours so would appreciate your consideration if you have a late night or early start. Good dogs welcome!
A pint of milk will be provided for your arrival plus tea, coffee, sugar, towels, shower gel, shampoo/conditioner, loo paper, olive oil, salt & pepper included. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge/freezer....plus other essentials like ice cubes and a bottle opener! There are also towels for wet dogs, poo bags, a food bowl and dog treats. Please note that this area has passing traffic and neighbours.
The coast and countryside of West Dorset attracts many visitors because of its natural beauty. There are lovely cafes, restaurants and beaches within walking distance making this an ideal location for exploring the countryside or walking into town for lunch, dinner and drinks. Waitrose and Morrison’s and the leisure centre are also on the doorstep. Please be aware this is not a rural location and traffic noises and neighbours can be heard.
  • Really lovely place, clean tidy and lovely touches from Liz

    Debs2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Liz's annexe because we needed somewhere to stay while visiting family in Dorset. It was everything we were looking for and more. A gorgeous little bolt-hole, self-contained and very bijou but perfect for a couple and our dog! We were staying over the Christmas period and Liz really thoughtfully decorated the place including a Christmas tree! We enjoyed two gorgeous walks on close-by West Bay beach; one in complete sunshine and one in rain and hail. We have already booked it again for our next visit to Dorset!

Cosy toes is a small but perfectly formed cabin, we are situated in a quiet estate on the fringes of the historic market town of Bridport. We are a 15 minute walk from the working harbour of West Bay, which, of course, is where the award winning drama "Broadchurch " was filmed, it has plenty of good eating establishments and quaint shops. 15 minutes the other way is the bustling town of Bridport with its twice weekly markets as well as regular farmer markets, along with many local shops. The nearest pub is a 5 minute walk and the nearest supermarket is 2 minutes in the car. Nearby you have Lyme Regis, Weymouth and many other lovely places. The coastal paths offer you many magnificent view points.
I love living where I do as it is so quiet but you can literally walk 5 minutes to find fun and laughter in the local pubs and also we are surrounded by beautiful countryside, I love walking out my front door and looking across to the iconic trees on Colmers Hill, stunning.
  • Perfectly located only about 15 minutes to either West Bay or Bridport. The area is stunning and Tracy's place was a perfect little getaway. She was always fast to respond and we enjoyed our warm (cosy of course) little cabin.

    Kip2020-03-08T00:00:00Z

  • Tracy’s place was lovely. Easy access and check in was smooth. When we walked in the place was cosy and warm. We even had milk and cereal provided which was a nice touch. A beautiful vase of roses as well! Bed was super comfortable and it was a lovely stay!

    Mike2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I have just returned from a one nights stay for New Year in Tracy’s cabin. Tracy was a lovely host very friendly and welcoming. She recommended a local pub and even drove us there, then into town and back again, as we were unable to book a taxi. The cabin is beautifully kept, tastefully done and very warm and cosy as per the name. It is in an ideal location for West Bay and Bridport. We will definitely be back in the warmer weather.

  • We loved our weekend in the Cabin at Downhouse, a cosy space for two in a beautiful green field, with the company of sheep and only a short walking distance from the sea. Nikki waited for our late arrival, was generous with advice and offered an extra night for free! Plus her cafe-restaurant is the best place to eat we found in the area, serving local, organic and delicious breakfasts, lunches and cream teas. Thank you Nikki!

This is a perfect bolthole away from the stresses of everyday life. A cosy cottage type feel with all the mod cons. Lovely countryside views, located on the coast rd and close to the beautiful beaches and coastal paths of West Dorset. Ideal for couples and families with one young child.
This is a beautiful part of the world. Located on the coast road in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is a popular area for walkers with access straight from the front door to footpaths to the coastal paths and beyond. For the less energetic there is a bus that runs through the village towards Weymouth and in the opposite direction Bridport/West Bay (Broadchurch!) Superb pub with great food in the village of Portesham. Two pubs in Abbotsbury a "picture postcard" village. And many other places to eat nearby including the "hive beach cafe" in Burton Bradstock. • We had a great mini-break here. The bed was super comfortable and felt like home straight away. The additional touches like firewood, welcome cakes and milk in the fridge were really nice surprises. It is a super cosy and peaceful place to stay with everything you could want already there. We had a great time and the location was perfect.

  • It was a treat to stay at Kelly's place this weekend: I can recommend the location (close to lots of places to visit), and the accommodation itself is both snug and super clean. Kelly's communication was clear and prompt, and she even left a couple of birthday brownies for us to enjoy on arrival. A great place for a weekend stay.

    Charlotte2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed two days at Kelly' s place in January and found it perfect for our needs.... very clean & private with everything we needed and in a great location for sightseeing and walks and added bonus of the logburner although there is central heating as well. We would definitely stay again if in the area.

The Crown Inn is a beautiful 16th century thatched pub situated in the village of Puncknowle (pronounced Punnel), a stones throw away from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. There's plenty to do all year round, whether you are relaxing in the large beer garden with stunning views on a hot summers day, enjoying an award winning local ale in the bar next to the log burner or tucking into some traditional locally sourced dishes straight from our kitchen.
Large Double room with en-suite bathroom with walk in shower. Views over St Mary's church yard. You can pre-book a continental or cooked breakfast at an extra charge.
The Crown Inn is situated in the small village of Puncknowle just over a mile from the World Heritage Site the Jurassic Coast.
  • Charming hotel, best moules frites in UK, super comfy bed and very nice bathroom.

  • Anna’s place is a really lovely pub with great people. The food was really good. The service was lovely. Our room was fantastic and very private. It was wonderful to see locals come in and out.... the pub is plainly a treasured asset in the village. It was the holiday season, but blissfully free of crowds and so a good place to holiday from. I highly recommend this tucked away gem by the sea.
