Home in Middle West Pubnico

View of the harbour view

My house was built 100 years ago on 2.5 acres of land overlooking the Pubnico Harbour. Across the street is the oldest house in the village built in 1789 . You’ll have lots of inspiration as you sit around the fire pit at night telling ghost stories. The deck faces east so it’s a perfect place to drink your coffee and watch the sun rise over the harbour or watch the moonrise with a glass of wine. It’s the last house on Old Church Road so there is almost no traffic and it’s a five minute walk to the “Village Historique Acadien de la Nouvelle-Ecosse” https://levillage.novascotia.ca . It’s a great place for cycling, kayaking, hiking or just going to the beach. Sand Hills Provincial Park is my personal favourite, or The Hawk beach on Cape Sable Island. The Pubnico Point Trail is a great hike for kids, it’s 4 km (2.5 miles) and you get to see the windmills up close. If off road biking is your sport then check out the 87 km multi-use trail called the “Yarmouth County Rail Train” . The West Pubnico Golf Club is 15 minutes away. In case of rainy days don’t forget the many museums, craft shops and thrift stores. Consult the Doers and Dreamers travel guide published by the government of NS for more ideas and the exact dates of all the locals festivals. The house has all you need to cook, plus there is a gas bbq. The grocery (De La Tour Co-Op) and liquor store is 1.2 km away, they sell local fish. In the summer, farmers have road side stands and weekly markets. The convenience store near the d’Eon’s Bakery sells fresh fish. The Eel Lake Oyster Farm is less than 30 minutes away and their oysters are delicious. You can always go to one of the three wharfs in the village and fish for your supper. Yarmouth is 40 minutes so it’s very handy if you plan on traveling on the Cat Ferry and the Digby ferry terminal is 1h45 minutes away. Whether you “come from away” or you’re visiting friends and family my house is a comfortable place to call home base. My sister lives right next door and she can help if you have any questions.

LightKeepers Cottage, Cape Forchu. 10min to ferry!

The LightKeepers Cottage is a unique property bordering the historic Cape Forchu Light house. Its last owner was a direct descendant from the original Lightkeeper James Fox. It is furnished with many interesting antiques, original paintings and prints. The cottage is situated on 3 acres of oceanfront, extending from the Yarmouth Harbour in front to the tumultuous False Harbour behind that lured many ships to an untimely end. The rooms are spacious and comfortable providing spectacular sea views.
