I love the swimming at Grotto beach, but mostly I love walking at low tide. After 1km you will have the beach to yourself and it goes on and on and on. Blissful meditative experience, and Ive never had any safely concerns.

Customs and culture

Waitron tips are the norm in SA, as are car guards

Waitron Tips are 10-20% depending on service recieved. Petrol attendants R10-R20 depending on how much they do for you Car guards are self employed and are generally happy with R2 -R20 depending on how long and what time of day. A long evening dinner would probably be R30 for me , plus a doggie bag of left overs from your meal most appreciated. A 5min run into a shop I would value at R2.
