City advice

Getting around

Getting Around

Public transportation (Hele on Bus) only goes from Kona to Hilo twice daily (except on Sundays and holidays), 6:45am & 4pm from the upper Matsuyama Store (Muaka). It is highly recommended that you rent a car. For the best car rental rates, search for Auto Slash, discount Hawaii car rentals, Hotwire, Kayak, Cheap Tickets, or Costco if you have a membership. The unconventional route would be people renting out their personal cars, Turo. Uber and Lyft are available on the Big Island, as well as conventional taxicabs.
