Shopping

Great for souvenirs, colorful decor and silver jewelry. I can't help but leave with one or two new pieces to add to my collection.

Arts & Culture

This is actually an arts and language school but I go in to enjoy the space itself. Pop in and see what's happening that day! http://instituto-allende.edu.mx/en/

Drinks & Nightlife

Millennial must. Gorgeous view, great music but try to get there a bit early since it's a small rooftop terrace.

This is a cousin favorite in my family. Great for backpackers, friends, out of towners. Super laid back and ideal to enjoy some live music with a cold beer. Not a place to go if you don't like loud/crowded bars.

On my mom's "Must" list: This is where I start the night and where my mom keeps slamming margaritas once I leave. Cute place with amazing ceviche and ginger margaritas. All ages welcomed.

This bar sits at the top of the gorgeous Rosewood Hotel in San Miguel. A quick walk from the house, it's an ideal location to sit on a gorgeous day under the sun and enjoy a picturesque view of San Miguel de Allende. Coming from Houston which is home to numerous award winning dining and specialty bars, we appreciate a great craft cocktail and think this is as close to heaven as you can get.

Food Scene

Gorgeous restaurant with great food and drinks in the heart of the city, steps away from the Parroquia. Usually have tables open but you may want to stop by a few hours before you plan on having dinner to reserve a table. Also, there's a rooftop bar which has an amazing view of San Miguel. If you go there, get the Jicama tacos and margarita de tamarindo (my mom's favorite menu items).

Oldest bakery in town with more Mexican sweet bread, pastries and cookies than you can imagine. A sugar coma DREAM. Stop by early (by 10 am) and grab a sweet or savory empanada. My favorite are the ones with rajas (poblano chile strips) con queso!

If the long line doesn't tell you something, the churros will. This place is famous among locals and tourists. The line is worth it, trust me. They offer breakfast and lunch (possibly dinner although I've never gone here for dinner) but you really go here for the churros. Crispy, golden, cinnamony, sweet gifts from heaven which you can choose to fill with Nutella, cajeta, chocolate sauce, Lechera or enjoy on their own. I would recommend pairing your churros with one of their flavorful hot chocolates.

I've done this winery tour three times with friends visiting SMA for the first time and it never disappoints. You'll take a peek into what they produce with their "holy trinity" (grapes, lavender and olives) along with a wine tasting. You must make a reservation for dinner or a private tour to enter the property but it's worth every cent.

I like to call it Mexican Walgreens. Whether you forgot your toothbrush/contact solution/floss, need a snack, craving a Snickers or need some medicine, Farmacia Guadalajara has it all.

Exploring grocery stores in a foreign country can be exhilarating... in my opinion anyway. Discover new cereal choices, snacks and fruits or grab some ingredients for a meal to cook at the casita!
