Non-Eating

Here's some fun stuff to do when not stuffing one's face with delicious Memphis food.
Way more expansive and entertaining than a regular bass pro. This place is right on the river and is located in the pyramid, where the Memphis Grizzlies and Tigers once played basketball. It was repurposed into the largest bass pro in existence. There are two hotels, a bowling alley, restaurants, and an awesome rooftop observatory which provides the best view in all of Memphis. And if you need some fishing lures, they have those too.

More than just a city park, it's a huge, wide open green space where people go for lake activities, dog walking, frisbee golf, picnics, and tons of other stuff. There is also a resident herd of buffalo.

This was a popular field trip destination when I was growing up, but it also has really cool exhibits, usually involving space or dinosaurs. They have a planetarium as well which is also cool. My best friend is getting married here in the spring.

Neighborhoods

The two main parts of town are referred to as Midtown and Downtown. Downtown runs along the river and Midtown is about 10 minutes east.
Downtown has been revitalized in the past 10 years with tons of fun bars and restaurants opening up as well as a boom in new housing for young professionals. It's generally very safe as long as you stick where the crowds are. Beale Street can be fun to check off the bucket list, but locals prefer the Main Street area where you'll see less touristy restaurants and a trolley that runs somewhat consistently.

The hipster, artsy area. Cooper/Young is the main attraction with bars mixed into a bohemian neighborhood. If you're feeling hoppy you can find a few breweries in this neighborhood as well. Overton square is another great place to check out with tons of options for food and drinks.

Food scene

Really delicious Mexican food, and almost always packed with college kids. Ridiculously cheap, so I take my wife here on dates. Get the aztec soup and the tacos.

I've eaten here at least 500 times in my life. Hopefully many more in the afterlife. Great bar food and atmosphere. They're all over Memphis so location doesn't matter.

My recommendation for best BBQ in Memphis. There's one downtown also, right by the Civil Rights Museum. Get the ribs (dry not wet) and thank me later.

Fun outdoorsy place downtown to get a beer and chill. I brought my dog Drake here and he loved it.

Super close place for Mediterranean takeout. The lady who works there is nice but she will get angry if you let the food get cold.
