There are many extremely beautiful and historic outdoor parks to explore near our home.
Free and open to the public every day of the year, the Arboretum is a safe and accessible 281 acre park, one of the most comprehensive and best documented botanical gardens of its kind in the world. Arnold Arboretum is also a National Historic Landmark and one of the best preserved of Frederick Law Olmsted’s landscapes. Olmsted designed the park in 1872, known as the most prominent and pioneering landscape architect in the US who designing NYC's Central Park, Washington DC's Rock Creek Parkway, Boston's Emerald Necklace Park system, amongst other landmarks.

Jamaica Pond is part of the Emerald Necklace of parks in Boston designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. The pond and park are in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, close to the border of Roslindale, a 5-10 min drive from our House. This pond is popular amongst locals and very popular on weekends for strolling. Many great restaurants and cafes are down the street from the Pond in Jamaica Plane. If you are feeling more adventurous you can continue walking down the historic and magical Emerald Necklace park system towards downtown Boston.

Jamaica Pond

Fallon field is a short 5 min walk from our home. It is great for kids of all ages. In the summer it includes a water park. In the winter there is a tremendous hill for sled riding.

Larz Anderson Park is a wooded, landscaped, and waterscaped 64-acre parkland in Brookline, neighboring Roslindale, that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a 5-10 min drive from our home. It is very scenic and has views of downtown Boston from the top. Also at the park is an auto Museum, a childrens playground and an ice skating rink in the winter.

Larz Anderson Park
Larz Anderson Park is a wooded, landscaped, and waterscaped 64-acre parkland in Brookline, neighboring Roslindale, that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a 5-10 min drive from our home. It is very scenic and has views of downtown Boston from the top. Also at the park is an auto Museum, a childrens playground and an ice skating rink in the winter.
Neighborhoods
Our home neighborhood of Roslindale possesses a combination of cultural diversity and pastoral beauty that you won’t find in many other Boston neighborhoods. The neighborhood’s downtown has undergone a renaissance, and is now know as Roslindale Village. The Distraction Brewing Co. opened its doors earlier this year, while a classic mainstay like Romano’s Pizzeria and Taqueria is an ideal spot for a slice or burrito. In the summer there is outdoor seating for many restaurants downtown and a farmers market with live music.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of “Rozzie” is that the area still manages to do what many other parts of Boston fail at: maintaining a true “neighborhood” feel. Roslindale residents are a mixed bag of families with deep roots in the neighborhood, young professionals, older retirees, and hipsters (chances are you’ll spot a fedora or two). Rozzie’s plentiful green spaces are truly beloved—particularly the south end of the pristinely maintained Arnold Arboretum, which dips into Roslindale from Jamaica Plain.
