Drinks & Nightlife

One of my favorite bars and nightclubs to go to on a regular basis. On Thursday nights they host free Jameson ice cream and have a food truck located in the patio that's open most of the time. I heavily recommend the chicken and waffles and the nutella/banana and waffles; they are amazing for satisfying those drunk food cravings.

It's an authentic hookah bar that is one of my hands-down favorites in South Florida. The staff was amazing and the food is always on point. The hookah is awesomely priced and is a nice change of pace from the prices they scam out of you in Miami Beach. It's an authentic feeling Arabic hookah bar that my Saudi Arabian friends introduced me to when they were staying in Miami. Once a month they have live Arabic music and turn into a night club. The management has changed since I've last been there, so it might be different, but I truly hope not.

Lagniappe is more of a lounge with a wide variety of choices of wines. I went here on a romantic date with my boyfriend and the outside patio is just beautiful. Perfect for large groups, and nice for those who want something romantic. Also had the cheese plate along with the vegetable and steak plates and they were all delicious.

It's a 50/50 hit or miss bar. Some nights it's a lot of fun, others it's empty and slow. It's a sports bar during the day. The layout of the bar reflects an authentic looking Irish pub, but the outside bar is preferable on a busy night. It's one of the main clubs/bars in the Brickell area and it's where the locals go to chill.

Definitely one of the better night clubs to go to in the Brickell area. A combination lounge and club, it has an inside area with board games, a pool table, and plenty of spaces to sit. In the outside patio, they have a huge projector where they place major games (basketball, football) during the week. Make sure to try their signature dish, the Blackbird, which definitely is an interesting cocktail. Music ranges from pop to alternative.

If you want a hookah experience on the beach- this one is probably the most touristy one there. It's pretty expensive, I'm not going to lie, but their hookahs are good. If you want to go to the beach and want to have hookah and a nice night on Lincoln road (and don't mind spending the cash), d'Vine is a good option.

If you don't mind going a bit North for a good time, I heavily recommend Las Olas in Ft. Lauderdale. There are dozens of late night restaurants, bars, clubs, and lounges all stuffed into a mere three blocks. Plenty of drink specials. Great vibes and absolutely great place to bar jump. Open late night. The area is also beautiful for a quiet evening if you are aiming for a more romantic setting. From 6-10 p.m. the area is calm enough for a nice dinner. The ambiance just adding that bit of charm you want to your evening.

A great bar based in Miami Beach that caters to the laid-back scene. Great cocktail menu, live music, and a chill ambiance. I would recommend the Shaker for a relaxed drinking night on the beach. Parking may be a bit tricky to find.

Ball & Chain is THE bar to go to in little Havana for late-night salsa music, reggaeton, and live bands playing until late. The drinks may get a bit pricey after awhile, but it's definitely worth the visit. They also host free dance lessons on certain days at around 5-6 p.m.

Food Scene

Moshi Moshi is one of my absolute favorite late-night places to eat at. They're food is pretty affordable for the amount that they give you (which is sizeable) and it's just great food. I always get the udon and the vegetable tempura and I can just never get sick of them. The restaurant itself hosts an area where you can remove your shoes and sit on your knees/legs along with a bar. Definitely one of the more affordable places to eat at in Miami Beach.

This is a "secret" restaurant and can only be accessed by having a reservation with them and then being sent secret instructions as to how to get to them. It's a boutique, authentic-italian pizzeria that showcases Italian-only products (including wine and beer). They do have a take out menu, which I haven't been able to try yet, but I can imagine the food is just as good. Definitely on the pricier side. Went here on a double date and us four had to wait 30 min on top of having a reservation for the super small restaurant. The service was nice, along with the atmosphere. The food was amazing and was authentic oven-baked pizza. Would go back! It's actually opening up a new spot in Wynwood!

Versailles is a bakery, cafe, and restaurant all rolled into one. It is also one of the most popular and historic Cuban restaurants to eat at here in Miami. I grew up with Versailles, and I can tell you as an authentic Cuban that its pastelitos, tostadas, coladas, cafe con leche, and baked goods are amazing. Their chicken soup, medianoches, mariquitas, and black beans are almost always perfect. Their restaurant menu, for the most part, will serve food that will hit the mark, but on the occasion, it will miss- I won't lie. Celebrities have eaten here, it's eats on a budget, definitely local, and close by to the apartments- worth a shot.

Red Koi is a nice Asian/ Thai restaurant that is close to the apartment. It's curries are well priced, $12-15 a plate, but the sushi and other dishes tend to be a bit overpriced. If you don't want to go far for a decent asian restaurant, I recommend Red Koi.

One of the best Cuban restaurants in Miami, as a miami local, I will stand by the title. I have grown up with Versailles and have tasted everything on the menu: from pastelitos and tostadas, to their ropa vieja and pan con bistec. It's just a great meal every time. Food aside, service can be brusque at times, but the restaurant stands as a solid Cuban experience in Miami everyone has to experience. Versailles opens early at 8 am and closes at 10 p.m. on weekdays and 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. If you don't have time for a meal, try the walk-up counter. Don't let the locals intimidate you! Order a bit of cafecito to start your day off right; I recommend a colada or cafe con leche.

Shopping

You want to take back an amazing cigar from Miami? I recommend the Little Havana Cigar factory. I've been shopping there for my cigar for a few years now and the manager and staff are just amazing. Top notch service and they have most cigars out there on the market. The lounge is relaxing to have a smoke at, very much that Miami vibe, and you have the option of having Cuban coffee while e joying your smoke. To attain an authentic Cuban cigar in Miami is still difficult and you will likely only be able to find fakes. Trust close to no one who claims they are selling an 'authentic Cuban.' Especially street vendors in Miami Beach and miscellaneous stores.

One of the local malls in Miami and one of the ones I would go to for discounts and deals. It's right across from Dolphin Mall, but while Dolphin has expanded to include a movie theater, bowling alley, and several other activities, International Mall is strictly a shopping mall. Dolphin Mall is one of the biggest malls here in Miami and is well-known to both tourists and locals alike. It's the closest thing you can get to an outlet mall and hosts all of the major stores and brands at discounted prices. Ironically, the only major store it does not have is Macys (which IS located at International and Dadeland Mall). IT has plenty of great restaurants as well, such as Texas de Brazil, Cheesecake Factory, Pei Wei and TGI Fridays. Packed even on the weekdays, so as you can imagine, the weekends are even worse. This is probably one of the most 'touristy' malls in both Miami and Miami Beach combined. There's an AMC movie theater at the beginning of the open-air mall and the beach at the very end. It boasts shops like Zara, H&M, Swatch and many others. Great for families. Sometimes there are street performers. City advice

Getting around

Cars or RideSharing Apps are the easiest ways to get around

On average, an Uber/Lyft from Coral Gables to Wynwood will be around $15.00. To Little Havana around $10-$12.00. If you want to cut the cost and see a bit more of the city interactively, the metro is another option. It takes you right to all the hotspots in Coconut Grove, Brickell, Bayside, Downtown Miami and further north/south as you go. Bicycles and scooters can be electronically rented and are viable options when traveling short distances in Miami. Feel free to use bicycles to get around Miami, but it is a daring and bold choice. Miami drivers are notorious.
Getting around

Use FreeBee in Gables!

Just two blocks from the building you are in a FreeBee Zone! Download the FreeBee App and be picked up/dropped off anywhere within the 2 mile FreeBee zone in Coral Gables. It is a free green transport service that is available 10 am- 10 pm seven days of the week. These electric vehicles make life a little easier when getting around the city beautiful.
Getting around

Coral Gables Free Trolley

At the end of the avenue there is a stop for the Coral Gables Free Trolley. This trolley works Mondays-Fridays from 6:30 am-10:00 pm and takes people from Coral Gables to UM, Coconut Grove, and other stops in the City of Miami. Runs most holidays.
What to pack

Jeans? It's Miami

By all means though, if you like jeans, bring them. I promise, you don't need them. Miami keeps at a consistent 69-80 degrees year-round, including the winter. As of November 26, it is 77 degrees and I'm in shorts. Bring shorts, leggings, workout clothes, flip flops, etc Anything that you doesn't require you to put layers on. Miami is humid. While our temperature is pretty consistent, humidity changes day to day so bring/buy any hair or skin products you may need to maintain yourself.
Ways to save

Ways To Save-Eating

If you are keen to try one of Miami's many great spots, aim for lunch for a cheaper price. Happy Hour in many places offer great deals and often the same meal you would get at dinner for significantly cheaper. Don't be scared to try some places that are off the beaten path. Palacios de los Jugos is the Cuban place you want to try if you want a lot of food (enough for 2-3 people) for $16. It's called a completa and you can choose which protein and sides you want. If you're feeling Nicaraguense, try Cana Brava- completas there are for $15 for a significantly large meal.
