Beer

Greenpoint, Williamsburg This guide to best things to do in Brooklyn wouldn’t be complete without some of their microbreweries. So we will start off with the most popular and famous of all Brooklyn breweries. Out of dozens of breweries taking the borough by storm, Brooklyn Brewery was one of the first and one of New York’s first post-prohibition craft breweries starting in 1988. This is also where the craft brew trend started here in Brooklyn. Come sample their beer in their taproom or take a 45 minute guided tour through the facility. The tours are free on the weekends, but available every day of the week. Be sure to see our whole guide to the best breweries in Brooklyn.

Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Red Hook Considered one of the hottest craft breweries in New York City, our next pick for best things to do in Brooklyn is the craft brewery located on the edge of the Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, and Red Hook neighborhoods. With nearly two dozen beers on tap this is the place to go and thing to do in Brooklyn if you’re an IPA aficionado. With a selection of juicy, dank, hazy brews on tap all the time you can find some of the finest IPAs the city offers right here in their taproom. We recommend coming and trying a flight, or two. Better yet you’re just a few streets away from some great restaurants in all three bordering neighborhoods to this brewery location

Calling all beer connoisseurs, this next place and thing to do in Brooklyn is for beer lovers with an elevated palate. Tørst is a Danish-inspired taproom with 21 rotating taps and a daily food menu. If you’re not with the biggest beer drinker, no worries there are also craft cocktails and a selection of wines here as well. This has become the ‘it’ spot to hang out in Greenpoint as the Nordic feeling interior feels like you’re somewhere else across the globe. Their menu, in general, is at a bit higher price point than other breweries, but if you’re looking for an eclectic selection of brews paired with delicious bites then this is a fun place to check out.

Gowanus & Greenpoint Another great place to grab a beer and thing to do in Brooklyn if you’re looking for a nice hangout spot in the Gowanus neighborhood as well as a location in Greenpoint. Threes Brewing is one of the best craft breweries here in the borough offering a laid back environment to enjoy a brew and socialize. In the summer, their backyard patio area in Gowanus is popular with groups gathering here. There’s also a cozy indoor bar that’s great for an afternoon break or an after-dinner drink. Their specialty are their lagers, but they have an array of other beers to try as well as special brews they release. You’ll probably want to take a few cans home with you too once you see the artwork. Not only do they taste good but they look good too!
