Just walk down Malden towards 13th and follow the smell. Chicken plates are yummy. My kids love the mac and cheese, and the hush puppies.

Great local store. Pick up some marinated meat, chicken or fish and throw it on the BBQ. Lots of great prepared foods, too.

For a fancy meal out. For sure get the radicchio salad, and any fresh pasta on the menu. Also, their delicious pizza comes with scissors to cut your own slices. House special Negronis are a must.

Sightseeing

So many wonderful trails to explore. Start with the Lief Erickson trail, and then take a side trail for a more woodsy experience. Dogs need to be on leash - the only downside (at least for us. Many appreciate that!)

Walk all the way down Malden towards the Willamette River (towards 13th St) and you will hit Sellwood Park. Great place for a picnic or a game of frisbee. Wonderful playground for kids and tennis courts that often get split for pickle ball.

This is where you want to go if you have a dog! Dogs rule the beaches here, and there are a wide variety to play with if you are traveling without your dog and miss canine companionship. Also a great place to put in if you SUP or kayak. The cover photo of Tulip was taken at this wonderful spot. We go almost daily. 😁

Take the MAX and experience the deepest “subway” station in North America. When you emerge, enjoy the zoo, and hopefully the red pandas will be out.

Head out to this beautiful island to pick berries in the summer or pumpkins in the fall, or for a long beach day. Let it all hang out at the clothing optional beach at the end of Reeder Rd. or don’t go all the way to the end and enjoy family fun on a long expanse of beach. Stop at the convenience store when you first get off the bridge to pick up a beach parking pass. Dogs are supposed to be on leash on the beach, but majority rules often result in a lovely off leash day of frolicking and swimming for pups and people.

City advice

What to pack

Often rainy!

Be sure to pack layers and if you have them some waterproof shoes. If you don’t want to stand out as a tourist, do NOT use an umbrella. 😂 We all use our waterproof outer wear and hoods to stay “dry.”
