Favorite brewery

Great beer and great outdoor space for hanging with your pups, friends, and family! They also have the Chub Wagon food truck with some great burgers and fries to go with your beer of choice. Heaters in the winter make this a year-round option and perfect place to stop after a hike or ride on the trails. Also will connect with the rail trail in the future connecting Hendersonville and Brevard!

The new name of this brewery is actually Oklawhaha Brewing! Excellent and unique beers brewed on-site in a casual warehouse style brewery that is pet-friendly. As of early 2021, their in-house food is still shut down but they welcome you to bring in your own food or order from an area restaurant and enjoy your food and their beer!

Delicious and fun varieties of fried chicken sandwiches and sides along with excellent donuts made fresh daily (til they're gone!). I recommend the fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese and bacon jam, a side of fried brussel sprouts, and if you have room, a bear claw!

Hiking/Nature viewing

Great spot for a nice walk in the woods in a state forest aimed at educating the public on forestry practices and the beautiful hardwood forests in the area. Picnic areas and a local wildflower garden make for a fun afternoon. Sometimes park staff offer educational hikes/programs. Check the seasonal hours before you plan your time there.

Favorite apple orchard

Family-run farm open July through October for u-pick flowers, berries, peaches, grapes, and of course, apples, with scenic wagon rides out to the fields! They also make and serve on-site their own hard cider, apple juice, apple cider doughnuts and more homemade items in their bar/gift shop. Their BBQ food truck is also on-site serving NC bbq and sides. And there is a great play area for the kids. Pets are allowed at the market/venue area but not out in the orchards. It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon enjoying the property, having a picnic, and bringing home some fruit and cider.

Overlook and lunch stop

If you're up on the Blue Ridge Parkway from Brevard, the Pisgah Inn is a great spot to stop and take in the views. Plan to have lunch in their dining room overlooking the valley (reservations required) or pick up some grab-and-go items in their market and have lunch in the adirondack chairs outback with panoramic views of the surrounding mountainside. Note that the Blue Ridge Parkway typically closes in the winter months once the first snowfall hits and the Pisgah Inn closes as well.
