Full of colourful textiles, traditional blankets, wooden masks, jade jewellery and woven purses, it’s an incredibly photogenic place to wander around. Don't be afraid to haggle your price down :)

Sitting next to the ruins of the Iglesia El Carmen, this market is one of the lesser-known artisan markets in Antigua and is much less crowded. It’s a good place to shop for souvenirs such as textiles, pottery and jade at a low price, and the blankets here are especially good value.

City advice

Getting around

Tuk Tuks

Although everything is within close proximity to the house, if you don’t feel like walking the city has many three wheel taxis called Tuk Tuks and they are safe and knowledgeable and the cheapest option for transportation. Ubers are also available.
What to pack

Comfortable shoes

The streets are mostly cobblestone and you'll want to wear comfortable shoes while sightseeing.
Travelling with kids

Antigua is not stroller friendly

Between the cobblestone roads and narrow sidewalks navigating with a stroller will be difficult.
What to pack

Bring Quetzales

When paying in cash most places will only accept Quetzales. There are plenty of ATM's around town if needed. Most restaurants will accept cards but many market vendors do not.
