Great for dining as well as early morning coffee or breakfast and wins my award for the best savoury muffin in Cottesloe. Excellent spot to browse through the newspaper early mornings on rainy days and to view surfing from the high tables near the main door.

Must do Cottesloe experience - a pre-dawn swim at North Cottesloe beach followed by a steaming brew at Little Sups. From 5:15am congregate with the local swimmers and commodity traders getting their morning coffee. For a little cafe it holds quite a few locally made surfboards.

Set out on a pre-dawn jog or walk (grab the torch in the cupboard above the fridge), heading south along Marine Parade to The Orange Box for an awesome light breakky. Walk or jog back along beach as the sun rises above the dunes, then have a dip for the perfect start to the day.

Swimming, snorkelling, surfing, beach volleyball, footy, frisbee, cricket - why go anywhere else? Several beach huts provide great protection from the summer sun. Snorkel around the rock wall and among the coral bommies all the way up to North Cottesloe Beach. Or once the temperature gets too hot, wade into the cool ocean and gently float among the lapping waves.

Essentials

If you've arrived late evening or on the early morning red eye, and feel wide awake then call in here on the way for some supplies. Very good gourmet deli and everything you'd expect in a large supermarket. If you're going exploring around (e.g. Kings Park, Peppermint Grove, Swan Valley) consider pre-ordering sandwiches or fruit platters for picnics and pick up on the way. Ph (08) 9389 8301

Grab the picnic basket, stock it up and head across to The Civic Centre - a wonderland of adventure for all ages. There's a playground, rose garden, pathways for bike riding, and enormous parklands for playing footy, throwing the frisbee, cricket or flying a kite. The BBQs are maintained every day and only 3 mins walk from the apartment, so venturing here is highly recommended. There is good lighting if you want to keep playing into the night after your picnic and watching the sunset over the ocean. Carols by Candlelight is Saturday 15th Dec, 7-9pm.

Lovely little park with Freshwaters Cafe, playground and beaches on the Swan River nearby. Pack a picnic, catch an Uber and venture around the Foreshore Reserve to find a nice private spot for lunch or afternoon tea. There are also BBQs and picnic tables along the Foreshore, so should we bring the tongs and tomato sauce? Keane’s Point is on the corner of Johnston & Lilla Streets. Freshwater Bay beach is also great for swimming.

Leave anything that relies on modern technology at home because you'll be able to tell the time here with pinpoint accuracy. Meander up from beach and follow the limestone cliffs around the Cottesloe Surf Club and you still eventually find this work of art and engineering masterpiece. The pathway takes you further along to a couple of other interesting creations and also down to the beach on the southern side of the rock wall.
