We love Golden West. It's a Santa Fe style cafe that serves Breakfast all day and great for everyone from meat eaters to vegans. We highly recommend the brussels sprouts, tater tots and anything with green chili sauce. Service can be slow when it's busy.

We love love their pizza and their salads. The crust is wonderful and made in a brick oven. Good beer and wine selection and a nice happy hour. Good for families too.

What a quick bite to eat? The Pasta Bar is perfect. Outdoor seating is charming. And it's BYOB! Wander over to The Wine Source, pick out a bottle, wander back and have a great dinner.

My personal favorite restaurant in Baltimore. I love their food. I love sitting at the sidewalk table in the summer drinking Sangria (reminds me of Barcelona). And you can pop over to the Charles Theatre for a movie. - Robyne

Immediately below us, within stumbling distance, which you'll experience if you have any of their extraordinary cocktails. Beautiful setting, creative food, superb service. One of our favorite restaurants regardless of location, but I can't believe how fortunate we are to have this essentially on our front lawn.

Yea! We love this place for lunch or dinner. Friendly staff, attractive decor for dine-in but easy take-out as well, lovely sushi and other Japanese fare (though we always get the sushi).

People take some degree of perverse pleasure in tearing this place down because it's "touristy". There may be some truth to the allegations spotty service and poor inventory control, but the food is surprisingly good and very reasonably priced, the menu is flexible to suit the tastes of everyone, and the decor is lovely. Moreover, this is the restaurant that got it all going...the renaissance of Hampden began here. It's important. Go there. Special secret: often Fridays are Local Oyster night. $1/oyster. COVID Update: Currently, only the Hon Bar is open. Menu is more limited but the burgers & margaritas are great.

Parks & Nature

One of Baltimore's largest, oldest, and most remarkable parks, designed by Frederick Law Olmstead of Central Park fame. We're located right on the border of the park. Don't miss the Conservatory. Also, the Zoo is in the park, very worth seeing. For runners, you can't do better than a run from our front door into the park, around the lake (1.3 miles) [note: lake route is currently closed while construction is finished on the water holding tanks - 2022 will be its reopening where you'll once again be able to circumambulate the lake and go for a boat ride!] as often as you wish (featuring panoramic views of the City), then return home or continue your adventure through the Park. It's a treasure. Map: https://www.baltogreenmap.org/druid-hill-park/

We're also on the border of Wyman Park, which runs the length of the Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus. Offering hiking and running opportunities, this unimproved park is intimate and beautiful, featuring Stony Run stream and the abandoned roadbed of the Maryland and Pennsylvania ("Ma and Pa") Railroad.

Arts & Culture

Don't miss the BMA. Or the restaurant in it (Gertrude's). Fabulous. The Cohn Collection features the best collection of impressionist works, truly, just about anywhere. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, with substantial collections of everything from African masks to early Christian oils to an entire wing devoted to contemporary artists. And all of this is free. Spend the money you save on admission for your lunch or dinner at Gertrude's, one of our favorite restaurants.
