If we had to recommend one place it would probably be here. Local pub on the Ashdown Forest with outstanding food. Dog friendly; 'Doggie Pubs' website says 'Located in the centre of the Ashdown Forest the Hatch has been a public house since circa 1430AD. Freehouse, serving traditional beers from a number of breweries, and excellent food ... Really popular so if you are planning to eat there after your walk on the forest get there early especially in winter. Telephone: 01342 822363

Wild and woolly. Originally a deer hunting forest in Norman times, Ashdown Forest is now one of the largest free public access space in the South East. It is a great place for walking and enjoying spectacular views over the Sussex countryside and is known the world over as the 'home' of Winnie-the-Pooh.
