I recommend their Sunday brunches - they have a good variety for foodies of all kinds and principles. It's also a fun place to go to for food in general, drinks or on weekends they have concerts, parties, etc. It is owned by a cooperative for many years and has kept its unique ambient and way of doing things.

Different - you'll eat in a completely dark room, served by visually impaired or blind waiters/waitresses who will lead you to your seat and help you choose from the menu. Good food, a good cause and certainly a good experience.

The last place where swimmers have to get out of the Rhein - this is also where you find a shower to wash off. Coffee, drinks and some food can be bought in the Buvette there (one of many along the Rhein). It is worth mentioning especially because that's where you'll find a perfectly working, wonderful public grill. Bring something along or buy a sausage at the Buvette - either way, it's a wonderful place to be.

This is the traditional theater in Basel, I'd say - it is very popular with the local people and often sold out long in advance. Especially in the time before the Fasnacht - our festival just before spring - the Schnitzelbängg are fantastic for all who both understand swiss german and appreciate politically well informed and edgy humor.

Getting Around

Bus number 30: goes directly from Bahnhof SBB to the Badischer Bahnhof, practically passing by our house. Tram number 8 goes from the Bahnhof SBB to Germany, also passing by here. In both cases the closest Station to my place is Feldbergstrasse.

To get to the Messeplatz from my apartment, the easiest way would be to walk (10 min). Otherwise you can take Tram 8 to Claraplatz and change into any other Tram that goes to the Messe - such as Tram 6 or 14.
