Factors such as stride length, speed, foot alignment, and more are explored, as well as ways to walk for maximum stability and fall prevention while navigating typical city obstacles.

Balance Basics

This class begins with the foot, where all good balance originates. Progress from strength and mobility for the foot-and-ankle complex to antigravity muscle training. You will learn how to keep deep lower abdominals engaged while paying close attention to proper posture, alignment, and form. After working on the single-leg stance and mobilizing the body's crucial balance mechanisms, the session can focus on fall prevention, depending on needs and goals.

Advanced Balance

Designed to follow on from the Balance Basics class, this session helps develop very strong legs and abs. Work on posture, alignment, and lower-body strength while recruiting the power of the lower abdominals and feet. Many of the exercises are inspired by podiatrist and movement specialist Dr. Emily Splichal’s BARE workouts and consist of complex dynamic sequences with multiple squats and lunges built around the single-leg stance.
