Castle Neuvillette World War I

The property is a chateau, in other words a castle, built in the early 18th century. Over the last decade it has been completely renovated; most recent renovation in the summer of 2017: new carpet in the bedrooms and the hallways on 1st and 2nd floor. The chateau is very comfortable and has 7 bedrooms and 3 bath rooms and accomodates 12 people. There is a cosy kitchen with a French Lacanche oven, a living room and a dining room. There is a large fire place in the living room and wooden pannelings in most rooms. A garage has room for 2 cars and there is a newly built summer kitchen with a large BBQ fire place. There is a small house next to the chateau, which accomodates 4 people and can be rented separately. The walls of this house have inscriptions from WW I and WW II, both from Allied Forces and Germans. The area is quite and rural. You need a car to get around. There are a number of chateaux in the area to visit. Our property is half an hour from Amiens by car. Amiens is famous for its cathedral and interesting museums. From Amiens it takes 60 minutes by train to get to Paris, Gare Du Nord, so day trips to Paris are easy to make. About 10 minutes drive (by car) from the chateau there is the lovely village of Doullens with several supermarkets, boucheries, boulangeries and other shops. Within half an hour drive you will find the battle fields of World War I, with several interesting museums and memorials. They are really worth a visit. Many British, Americans, Canadians and Australians come to visit the graves of their ancestors who lost their lives during WW I. The house is the place to stay for ANZAC week. The La Manche beaches are 1 hour and 15 minutes by car. The house is ideal for a vacation. And it is often used by people who invite their European friends to come over and spend some time together.

The accommodation is located on the ground floor of our house, consisting of a master suite (25 m2 bedroom and private shower room), entrance hall and laundry room with kitchenette. Access is independent through our basement, with parking and front garden accessible to users. We live in a quiet village 3 minutes from Montplaisir farm and Gezaincourt castle, 4 minutes from Doullens, 35 minutes from Amiens/ Abbeville/Albert/Arras and 1 hour from the Bay of Somme. Close to World War I memorial sites.

Take a break in the countryside and relax in this small stable converted into a cozy cottage in the countryside. This studio is attached to our home but is completely autonomous. Two ATVs are available. To go further, a car is required (located 25 minutes from Arras/Hesdin, 30 minutes from Lens/Vimy. One hour from Lille and the Opal Coast. We spent a few idyllic days in Armelle's accommodation. The accommodation is very comfortable and works well with children, bedrooms upstairs and living/dining room on the ground floor. Access to the heated pool allows you to enjoy the first beautiful days of spring and the garden is beautifully maintained. Bonus for children, there is a large trampoline where our children (between 4 and 8 years old) spent some time. There is a small supermarket 5 minutes' drive away where you can find what you need for meals and aperitifs. For a few days spent with friends, it is quite possible to stay on site and simply enjoy the beautiful setting. To top it all off, we were lucky enough to see a hare in the garden, which made the little ones and the older ones happy.

La Petite Pâquerette – Cozy 1-bedroom rural Cottage

Where to start? This cottage was pure delight and a haven of absolute peace. The pictures do not do the setting justice - sitting out on the patio with a glass of wine, watching the owner's chickens wandering about was heavenly. The furniture was comfortable and the kitchen area cleverly makes the most of the available space. Thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers helped to make it feel special. Both Raymonde and her daughter Leslie are fluent English speakers and there is a large selection of English books available in the home. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed we have slept in. The pictures on AirBNB show a metal bed but this has been replaced by a wooden bateau-lit. Lying there, with the window open in absolute silence and darkness is a great sleep-inducer. The surrounding area has many quiet villages and is a good site for those wishing to explore some of the war graves as well as those wishing to cycle on quiet country lanes. Can't recommend it enough - 6 stars!
