The village has a famous community pub, the Old Crown, a shop and a brewery and is a great base for exploring the northern fells or as a stop on the Cumbria Way. The Coach House has been a moot hall, a musical instrument workshop and a garage. It became a house in the 1980s and was restored in 2023 to make a comfortable holiday home.
