Our converted coach house offers a cosy corner in the busy village of Downton from which to visit the historic cathedral city of Salisbury and the open spaces of the New Forest. Parts of the property date back to 1475 with links to the Bishops of Winchester. There is plenty on offer in and around the village, with local shops, gardens, pubs, walks and bicycle rides along the River Avon. Bournemouth beaches are not far away. We welcome dogs but do have a pet charge of £20 for their stay.
“This is the *perfect* little getaway just north of the New Forest, offering the joys of both land and sea. Already booked our next visit! And there are fantastic outings nearby (definitely check out Charlotte Tindall horse riding and Mudeford Sandbank). Pennie sat down with us when we arrived and explained everything to us, from hints and tips about eateries to great walks and local attractions. She even gave us mint clippings from her garden and some locally-made hand sanitiser, and gorgeous fresh flowers from her garden were waiting when we arrived. Pennie and her lovely family were perfect hosts—wonderfully kind, so generous and friendly. We were there for my birthday, and Pennie was amazingly helpful around coordinating little surprises and even receiving birthday packages from relatives overseas. The actual cottage is outfitted to a very high standard, and the garden is a gorgeous and homey little oasis. Really appreciate that we were still able to compost, recycle, etc. (Big compost in the back garden!)”
We offer a private wing of Stable Cottage, with separate entrance, breakfast room and upstairs bedrooms, bathroom and separate shower room. Perfect for 2/3 adults/family with a baby/single child. Additional cost if using the 2nd bed. Close to Salisbury and the New Forest, it's the place to explore Wiltshire! A continental breakfast is included (home made bread, yoghurt, granola, milk, fruit, tea/coffee). A home cooked dinner is available at an extra cost (24 hour notice for dinner).
“Downton is a lovely base for the New Forest, Salisbury and surrounding area. This wonderful B&B is in a beautiful rural spot just minutes walk away from the main village, pubs, Co-op and bus routes. Very nice walks into beautiful countryside too are on the doorstep. The host, Emma, is super friendly and keeps the accommodation spotless. She is at hand for any queries and has supplied lots of local information in the breakfast room for you to peruse. Breakfast is wonderful. Emma runs a pop up bakery for local residents so you will have a delicious home made loaf waiting for you in the morning. There is a good choice of cereals, however we chose the homemade granola which was superb. There was plenty of everything, yoghurt, fruit compote, jams and spreads, plus a little treat tin which might contain lemon drizzle cake or brownies or biscuits! There is a seating area outside the door into the accommodation which is nice if the weather is good. The breakfast room has an armchair and a table and chairs. There are 2 bedrooms, a bathroom with WC and a separate shower room. The pillows, duvet and towels are very good quality. We would definitely recommend this B&B and will stay here again.”
The Bothy is a stylish boutique, romantic hideaway ideal for couples to enjoy some time together in the New Forest where ponies wander past the gate and wildlife is in abundance, a beautiful cottage sure to delight in all seasons. The hot tub is a wonderful experience whatever the weather. https://www.facebook.com/NewForestHolidayCottage/
“Beautiful place, the surroundings area is lovely, plenty of nice places to walk, pubs and ponies to see! The cottage has a lovely garden which is really private. The hot tub and indoor fire were both a real treat as were the chocolate muffins! We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back”
