10 things you should know about Airbnb

Airbnb your home

1. We’ve got great demand

New homes on Airbnb are getting booked almost immediately, with half of the listings activated and booked in Q3 2022 receiving their first reservation within three days. Hosts who enable our new hosting promotion decrease the time it takes to get their first booking by 30%.

2. 2022 was another record year for Airbnb

Airbnb revenue of $8.4 billion grew 40 percent year over year. Guest demand remained strong throughout 2022. All regions saw a significant growth in 2022 as guests increasingly crossed borders and returned to cities on Airbnb. In Q4 2022, Airbnb had its highest number of active bookers yet, demonstrating guests’ excitement to travel on Airbnb despite evolving macroeconomic uncertainties.

3. Diversifying your properties’ bookings has never been so easy

As of Q3 2023, around 90% of traffic to Airbnb was direct or unpaid*. Why this is important for you: users visiting Airbnb from a search engine have a specific intent, giving you access to incremental bookings and a new audience.

4. We've got your back. AirCover for Hosts

AirCover for Hosts is top-to-bottom protection for Hosts. It includes booking guest identity verification, reservation screening, $3M USD Host damage protection** , a 24-hour Safety Line and more. And it is included for free every time you host.

5. Families love Airbnb

Family travel is booming on Airbnb. Globally, family travel on our platform is up 60 percent in 2022 compared to before the pandemic in 2019, with over 15 million check-ins in nearly 90,000 destinations. Many of those families likely booked Airbnb listings because of the value and space they received.

6. Airbnb is for everyone. Holiday rentals and hotels

Hosts all around the globe consider Airbnb being a relevant channel to them. Airbnb ended the year 2022 with 6.6 million global active listings, which is over 900,000 more listings than the beginning of the year. That’s an increase of 15% more active listings vs 2021!

7. Long-term stays continue to be popular

Guests are continuing to use Airbnb for longer stays. Nights from long-term stays (28 nights or longer) were 18% of total gross nights booked in Q3 2023.

8. Low guest cancellation rate

According to Airbnb internal global data, in 2022, the average cancellation rate by a guest was under 15%, making Airbnb a very attractive solution for accommodation providers.

9. Guest identity verification, reservation screening and party ban

Here are some of the steps we take to offer you peace of mind while you host:
  • Airbnb will verify the identity of all guests that book.
  • Our proprietary technology analyses hundreds of factors in each reservation and blocks certain bookings that show a high risk for disruptive parties and property damage.
  • In August 2020 Airbnb first announced a ban on all parties and events in listings globally. The ban has proved effective, and in June 2022, Airbnb officially codified the ban as a policy.

10. A two-sided review system allows you to review your guests

On Airbnb, Hosts have the ability to leave detailed reviews of guests, which other Hosts will be able to read. Along with finding a guest’s overall rating, you’ll know how other Hosts rated them on cleanliness, communication and following House Rules. These reviews also help enforce ground rules for guests and allow us to help ensure guests respect your home.
