Holiday rentals with lake access in Forest of Dean District

Carthorse Barn is just simply stunning ! So spacious and beautifully decorated, we felt right at home . The day we arrived weather was not the greatest so having a wood stove was blissful. The cottage is very spacious and has everything needed for a comfortable stay , kitchen is fully equipped, downstairs toilet a welcomed bonus. Upstairs both bedrooms are immaculate, spacious and have very comfy beds . I loved the window bench in the kids bedroom, such a wonderful nook to relax. The main bedroom has the biggest and comfiest bed I have ever seen , such a beautiful wooden headboard too. I loved the free standing bath. The farm is also lovely and we enjoyed going to see the pigs and walking round the lakes.

Our stay at the barn was wonderful. The home is spotless and has everything we needed. Beautiful views from the garden and lovely neighbours with an equally lovely dog! Sally is a fab host who came and introduced herself and provided lots of info on the area and local recommendations. Would recommend to anyone seeking a rural getaway in a beautiful location. We had a very enjoyable stay with the family for a major birthday celebration. The accommodation and location are really lovely. The kayaks with life jackets were available. We had a few minor cleanliness issues which couldn't be resolved during our stay but we did receive modest compensation. One observation; the ladder style steps up to the mezzanine are very steep and not suitable for young children on their own and the beds up there are too small for fully grown adults or tall teenagers!. This is not addressed in the spec of the accommodation. We ate at a local restaurant, The Crown at Ampney Brook. Food and service exemplary.

Will & Amanda go above and beyond to make their guests stay wonderful. Check in was so easy with very detailed communication. They provided a lovely welcome book with info on the area, what’s to do, places to visit etc . The house was immaculate and very comfortable with everything you needed. The surroundings were super tranquil and just the perfect spot to relax with family. It was so lovely to simply sit and watch the wildlife outside and activity on the lake ❤️ Highly recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing getaway from a normally fast paced life. Beautiful property, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Set right on a very peaceful lake; was great siting on the desk watching the water sports. Easy to find and enter and good communication from the hosts. No faults at all.

Great property with the most beautiful views. Property was as described and exactly like the pictures. We had a few questions whilst staying there and Tricia was very responsive and helpful.

Great location, just steps away from the lake. The jetty was right by the back door to get on to the lake easily.

We stayed for 2 lovely weeks in Kirk and Helen’s house. The location has a lot of supermarkets nearby and delivery is easily accessible. The accommodation was very neat and tidy. It had a lovely personal touch from the owners who care about their guests. Rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. It is a super cosy house and has some nice places to visit in Portishead. Also, very close to Bristol which was a big advantage. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Helen and Kirk for being very responsive and helpful hosts!

We had a wonderful stay in this very comfortable apartment. The bed is one of the best we've slept in. Everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Very close to beautiful walks and amenities. Only slight negative was the noise early in the morning when staff are preparing breakfast for the BandB guests in the main residence but we were not put off by this. We will definitely be returning.

Lovely, peaceful annexe in a charming village—clean, comfortable, and perfectly located between Bath and Bristol. Great value and a welcoming host. Highly recommend!

A lovely little get away, tucked away on a remote location. Waking up to cattle and sheep right outside was beautiful Hosts are welcoming and very friendly. Cannot wait to return

Really cosy, comfortable lovely barn, set amongst picturesque lakes and commutable to lots of gorgeous towns.

The apartment was even better in reality than in the photos - lovely decor and comfortable beds/sofas. As we had lovely weather for our weekend stay , we sat outside on the rooftop terrace relaxing at every opportunity, listening to birdsong and lake-watching the wildlife. We hadn’t appreciated the amount of activities on offer at Lower Mill Estate but used the outdoor heated pool, recliners and sauna before we checked in - it really started our weekend in relaxing mood. We went to Ballihoo restaurant during our visit and this was a great family restaurant, very casual with good food - a few minutes walk from the accommodation. We did some Cotswolds sightseeing on the Saturday and it was lovely to know our penthouse and sundeck was waiting when we returned in the afternoon. Jane recommended a local restaurant for the Saturday evening and we weren’t disappointed- the food was absolutely delicious and it made the weekend perfect. Jane & Nico - thank you for everything:-)

Unique property steeped in history and interest. Only had a one night stay so would love to come back again. The peaceful location with the nature reserve and wildlife is a big attraction.

A cosy, clean and comfortable place to stay. Powerful shower. Nice dining area. Very friendly host and good food from the chip shop. Nice little high street and pretty walk around the lake.

Amazing stay, so peaceful and lovely. Location is great, secluded but close enough to drive to takeaway spots or Tesco. Not too far from the Brecon Beacons where we travelled to for the four falls trail. Would visit again, thank you :)

Our stay at Jacqueline’s cottage was superb. It is quite spacious, airy and bright. The house is nicely appointed and extremely well equipped. Jacqueline was very welcoming and a very responsive host. We would definitely stay again. We had trouble finding the place using the Airbnb map. It took us to a totally different location. Entering the address in your own satnav/gps works though.

The photos don’t do the lovely place justice. I was worried it wasn’t going be big enough for us, due to the fact I was using it as place to have us together to get ready for the morning of my wedding. The cottage was spacious, beautiful, cosy and was perfect for us all! There was ample of parking which was perfect. I would highly recommend and would stay again if another occasion. Both Angela and her daughter were great at responding to anything we required. They also accepting of any mess we left due to leaving late - bride always arrives fashionably late!

What a truly beautiful venue if you want a quiet & private setting with amazing views & a trip to wonderful day trip to Ludlow with lazy cafes & a wonderful river walk… beds were comfy, everything you needed & a private hot tub was the perfect end to a days walking!

Beds comfy which was much needed. Shop is literally 1 minute fro the apartment so very handy. Quiet little town. If you’re going to the pub get one of you to drive as it’s a steep hill.

Wow! What a fabulous, totally relaxing weekend in the most beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We (and our 2 miniature Dachshund) just loved that as soon as you stepped of the front door, there was so much garden, woods, lake and fields to explore. And don't forget the peacocks, Roger and Kevin, adding that magical touch passing right by the front of the cottage. Jean was so lovely too. We absolutely would love to return xx

What a lovely place - Fran could not have been more helpful and generous, allowing us to drop our bags early as we were attending a wedding nearby, and even offering us a lift to get there. The cottage was lovely with everything we needed for one night - and even a log burner we would definitely have enjoyed using if it was winter! Overall a very enjoyable experience - thank you Fran (and the dogs!) for looking after us so well

Fantastic cottage for a weekend away. Beautiful building and gardens. Great location for walking the 4 Waterfalls Trail. Cottage had everything we needed and was in walking distance to local restaurants and takeaway. Sally was extremely helpful with recommendations for the local area. Highly recommend staying here.

Lovely property, very clean and had everything we needed. The garden at the rear of the property was perfect for the dog. Good location with easy access to Bath and Cheddar, which we would highly recommend. We loved the Salt and Malt for takeaway fish and chips!
