This is a private, single-unit rental accommodation located in a secluded space surrounded by nature. Time passes slowly, and every moment remains quietly in my heart. A rural landscape unfolds before your eyes, and beyond it stretches the beautiful scenery of Mt. Hakkasan. From the deck surrounded by flowers, you can watch the beautiful sunset over the mountains. [House Story] This house was born out of a childhood dream of living in a Nordic home.It all started with my longing for a cozy cabin and the tranquility of nature, like something out of a story. After living in Sweden and New Zealand, I returned to Japan and, together with my husband, Andy, took over a cottage that was scheduled to be demolished just one month later. It is along the Mikuni Beach Coast in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, on the Sea of Japan (ᴗ ) Nearby, there is plenty of nature, such as the famous Tojinbo, the flowering of the Dai Con at Futahama Beach, the dolphin show at Echizen Matsushima Aquarium, the Dinosaur World Midori-no-Hiroba Shibamasa, the Kitamaebune port of Mikuni, and the summer sunflower fields in the northern hilly area of Sakai. In winter, you can enjoy the stormy seas, the lovely yellow wild daffodils and Echizen crabs of the Echizen coast, in spring, the rape flower fields that bloom after the harsh winter, the Oshima festival and Mikuni festival, in summer, the sunflower fields, swimming in the sea, Shibamasa, turban shells and sea urchins, and the Mikuni fireworks festival, and in autumn sunsets, pears picked in the hills, grapes, and seasonal nature and food. The entrance and interior of the house are wheelchair accessible The host's hobby is photographing the beautiful nature nearby. The room is decorated with many photos of the Mikuni area. "Hataba" is a DIY renovation of a building that was once used as a weaving factory (= hataba) in my family home, and is a limited edition inn. The living and dining room with beams and the space with a calm Japanese-style room are surrounded by the nature of the quiet mountain valley, and are popular with group travelers and guests from overseas. The entire inn is private, so you won't meet other guests, and the bath, toilet, and kitchen are all private. You can enjoy a private stay to your heart's content. The host (Ken) or family is always present in the separate building on the premises, and we have a system in place to support you if anything happens, so you can feel at home even if it's your first time here. Also, if your host Ken is at home, you can have a drink with him or talk about the local area. ⚠️ Please note The surroundings are rich in nature, so please refrain from booking if you are concerned about insects, frogs, cats, etc. The interior has a handmade floor with fraying, small holes, and cracks. Slippers are provided, but please refrain from using them if you are concerned. Although it is a private rental, please be aware that there are areas that are off limits (such as the second floor and the futon room).

Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.
