Holiday houses in Lamu Island

Lamu är verkligen inte en plats för alla. Vill du ha nöjesliv, shopping, upplysta gator, underhållning, service och gourmetkrogar ska du söka dig någon annan stans. Men letar du efter vacker arkitektur, spännande kultur, arbetsro, enkel och vällagad mat, idel vänlighet, salta bad, åsnor, båtar och natur är Lamu rätt. Och helt fantastiskt. Hos Gilles och hans syster bor man mitt den speciella staden i hus från 1700-talet, renoverat och försett med liten svalkande pool. Wi-Fi på taktersssen som är perfekt som arbetsrum eller för umgänge med skyddande tak för solen och utsikt över vattnet. Mgogo sköter om de dagliga bestyren - frukost samt lite av varje inklusive att mata de tre sköldpaddorna. Jag bodde ensam här i tre veckor, gick ut själv och åt på närbelägna Lamu House eller i Shela. Åkte till stränder och badade (man tar enklast en båt-taxi) och umgicks med vänner i närbelägna - och ner tusistiga - Shela. Var mycket produktiv och hann vila. Kommer tillbaka.

I instantly felt right at home. Thomas, Amani and all the staff were very accommodating and were responsive to anything I needed. The breakfast is amazing (make sure to try the banana pancakes and the vegetable scrambled eggs). They make almost everything in-house so you really feel like you're eating a home-cooked meal. The afternoon tea and snack was perfect while I needed to work remotely and the wifi worked very well in the common areas so I was able to get a lot of work done during my stay. The bed was comfy, the water was hot, the room was spotless and it felt like a home away from home. Thank you!

Beautiful house well located in Lamu Town with kitchen and roof top terrace. Katana, who looks after the house and its guests, is a very nice guy and super helpful. He also prepared the breakfast, which I really enjoyed. Lovely place!

Mama Aisha was super helpful and was available when I landed on the jetty, giving me someone to help with luggage and take me to the accomodation spot. I got one of the rooms looking over one of the streets but while seated I could see the streets and activities but those below couldn't see me. this proved great for doing work stuff and not feeling stuck in my room. yet, there was minimal noise beyond the occasional conversations and movement. I loved the spot though - I highly recommend it to others.

His description does not really do it justice! It is far bigger than you will expect and easily accommodate 6 without issues. Best thing though, was Abdillah himself. Friendly, helpful and a great tour guide around the village of Shela. This has been his home his entire life and it shows. I would recommend anyone wanting a relaxing yet exciting vacation, long or short, to visit Shela and stay in his place. We will be returning next year with our children! Baji ist ein toller Gastgeber, er holte mich vom Flughafen ab und erklärte mir alles wichtige. Die Unterkunft ist sehr sauber und ruhig. Besonders der Frühstück von Maya war hervorragend und ich habe die Zeit dort sehr genossen.

I had a wonderful stay at the Kizingo Eco Lodge, I was completely thrilled and can really recommend it! The staff was very warm and helpful. The lodge is located at the end of the 12km long beach and is surrounded by dunes. The beach is very beautiful, quiet and you can swim there even at low tide. The restaurant and cabanas are all unique and beautiful, full of attention to detail and everything is locally made. Night Sky was very airy, large and had lots of pretty niches to linger in. The bathroom was also very large and beautiful. The food was excellent and the cook surprised me with delicious, creative vegan meals. Nicola built the lodge so consciously and sustainably, there were wonderful, locally produced natural care products in the bathroom. The lodge can be either reached by boat or by motorbike from Shela along the beach in 15min (KSH 1000 only one way), so that it's easy to go there just for the day, have a wonderful meal and cool drinks at the beach underneath the shade.

Amazing little getaway, really what human minds need to relax and unwind . I wish I could extend my days but definitely coming back again for a longer stay
