Whippoorwill Retreat, Nebo NC

JoyRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
This cottage was absolutely beautiful—peaceful, private, and surrounded by stunning wildflowers and scenery. The bed was super comfortable, and the short distance to Lake James made it even more perfect. We loved cooking in the fully stocked kitchen and enjoyed breakfast outside on the deck patio. The grill was a great bonus for evening meals. Our host was amazing—friendly, responsive, and welcoming. Highly recommend!"

Treehouse Glamping Deck near Asheville.

Primitive enough to call it camping, glampy enough to enjoy doing it! Gorgeous views with a sense of privacy. This is my second staying at Above the Fray and I have enjoyed both experiences! Would highly recommend!

Clear Branch Cabin

RickRating, 5 stars9 months ago
A beautiful cabin in the woods. Well equipped kitchen and full of thoughtful touches. Comfortable furnishings and bed. Essentially no internet as advertised, but books, dvds, fire pit and walking trails instead. Between two neat towns—Chimney Rock/Lake Lure and Black Mountain—with lots to do. We really enjoyed our stay!

Awesome tiny cabin located on a beautiful creek. Everything you could ask for if you’re wanting to check out for a few days. Plenty of hiking nearby (or right out the door) and close to Old Fort or Black Mountain if you desire to go into town. (Hillman Brewery in Old Fort and The Bush Farmhouse in Black Mountain) We definitely will return. First class operation!!!

Zen Den

JamesRating, 5 stars2 days ago
Let me tell you—The Zenden was the perfect getaway! I stopped in for one night on my way to Asheville, and I was so pleasantly surprised. Things I expected to have to buy—like olive oil, salt, pepper, and seasonings—were already there, ready for me to sauté some delicious Brussels sprouts. The space was ideal for unwinding, meditating, doing yoga, and getting an amazing night’s sleep on a super comfy pullout. The colors, shapes, and small design details kept my mind gently and constantly engaged—it’s like the space was quietly entertaining my thoughts the whole time. Playing some Melody Gardot on the record player while rain bounced off the metal roof? Pure satisfaction. I only wish I could decorate like the owner—it’s clear they’ve created an intentional, peaceful space. I hope to replicate even a little of that vibe someday. Thank you!

Beautiful area, quiet, peaceful, and inviting to be still. House was very clean and cozy. It felt like we were in the “cottage in the woods”. My sister and I enjoyed our stay. She even said why don’t we see if we could stay a few days longer. Planning on returning.

Jo’s cabin was a peaceful retreat for my husband and I. It was very comfortable and had all the necessary amenities. An added bonus was her artwork. It was like being in an art gallery! We also enjoyed homemade blueberries muffins and blueberry & grand mariner jam.

1930’s Log Cabin on Rushing Creek!

TimRating, 5 stars11 months ago
This is. a great, cozy cabin nestled along the Cattail Creek. The deck area is amazing and really sets this property apart. The listing is honest. The cabin is simple and gives you the experience of the rustic (but comfortable) getaway you were imagining. Brad is thorough and the transaction was easy, with good instructions on how to enjoy the house. We were vacationing in July, so spent much of our time on the deck next to the river and the ceiling fans kept us cool at night. It is easy to get down to Burnsville and other sites nearby (tubing, antiquing, hiking etc) and parking and driveway were easy to navigate without 4WD / AWD rental car. Would definitely stay here again when we come up to the mountain next time.
