Home in Golden Point

Step back in time to a hilltop house with views across the city through picture windows. Exposed brick and the extensive use of natural wood maintain a mid-century atmosphere, enhanced by period furnishings and gleaming softwood floors throughout. The House Manual provides information about Jack's, as we call our house. We do not host guests with accompanying pets and smoking on any part of the house and property is not acceptable. If these rules are not to your liking then please do not book. Jack's Place is an original 1960's architect designed house. A master bedroom with direct access to the bathroom (en-suite except it is the only one!). The second bedroom features jarrah flooring and exposed brick wall. The living area features a unique view across the City especially at night. Functional kitchen and laundry, air conditioning and heating. The rental terms are for the whole house but if a couple book then it is expected only one bedroom is used. On booking it is best to clarify if both bedrooms are required. If not we do not make up the second bed. Jack's Place is a free standing brick residence with its own car space. There is a walled courtyard and front lawn area/garden (yet to be fully developed ). Cate and I live behind Jack's Place and both properties share a driveway. Naturally the drive must be kept clear at all time. More than happy to be contacted with any questions relating to Ballarat in general, food, wine and things to do. This 1962 house is in Golden Point, an old area in the City of Ballarat, about 125 kilometers west of Melbourne. These days the architecture of the area varies from 1860s dwellings, California bungalows, and modern high-density residences. Ballarat's main street is Sturt St. It is about a ten minute walk to the town centre and less to major supermarkets. Parking in town is charged via meter all week. On the edge of the central business district parking is free. Parking around the restaurant area of Armstrong St is difficult. My advice is to walk to dinner and Uber home. Local buses are confusing. Only a few minutes away is The Grapes Hotel, friendly and reliable. Ballarat weather can be variable. I have no control over the weather! We are perched about 375 metres above sea level, cold in Winter and hot in Summer. Summer nights tend to cool down. To keep the house warm and you comfortable, draw the blinds and turn on the heating. There are electric panel heater available in the house. Be very aware that they are not suitable for use when young children are part of the guest party. To cool the house, draw the blinds, close all windows and unnecessary doors and set the cooling for 10C below the outside temperature.

The house was built in 1905 and features original decorative fireplaces, high ceilings, and timber floors, along with a piano. Guests will be left with their privacy and do not need to interact with the host. The host can be contacted any time by phone with any concerns or issues, or for any help you require during your stay. Circumnavigate Lake Wendouree, a scenic 6 kilometres, and within walking distance of the house. Subway, Crust Pizza, and Sushi are all moments away, with a longer stroll to the centre of Ballarat offering a wide choice of restaurants and bars. Electric blankets provided in winter.

The Cottage @ Hedges is an easy 10 minute drive from the centre of Ballarat. The cottage sits within a pretty country garden about 20 metres from my home on a small rural property. Close to parklands, Lake Wendouree, art galleries, wineries and lots of great cafes and restaurants. The Ballarat-Skipton Railtrail is just 300 metres away - perfect for quiet country walks and cyclists. It is comfortable inside and out with plenty of shady spots to sit in the garden.

My partner and I stayed for a weekend and had a lovely time! The location was the perfect spot to explore the Main Street and surrounding areas. It was also only a short walk to a café. Jenny and Lars were friendly, communicative, and went out of their way to accommodate us, including allowing early check-in. The place had everything we needed, from comfy beds to thoughtful amenities. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again!

Studio apartment provided us with everything we needed. Warm and cosy for a cold Ballarat night! Pub around corner in walking distance. Tricky finding entrance off laneway, but finally got there. Sadly no parking on premises - have to park around corner on Main Street. But little inconvenience for such a lovely and affordable studio. Drew was a great communicator too.

We had such a lovely weekend staying at this Airbnb! The location was incredibly convenient — just five minutes drive for all the restaurant, which made meals super easy and stress-free. We chose this place because it was close to the basketball event we were attending, and it couldn’t have worked out better. The home itself was spotless and beautifully kept. It had such a warm, welcoming feel that made us instantly comfortable. Everything was clean, well-organized, and thoughtfully set up. It truly felt like a home away from home. Had a wonderful stay at The Botanist's House, hosted by Cheryl and David. Cheryl and David were wonderful hosts and go above and beyond to welcome their guests. From switching on the heating ahead of our nighttime chilly June arrival to lovely personal touches; a welcoming notes, home-made goodies etc. they really go that extra mile to make you feel welcome. The house is beautifully presented and furnished, immaculately clean and extremely comfortable. It has absolutely everything you could possibly need. I wish we could have stayed longer!
