Gorgeous Condesa House with Beautiful Private Garden

This gorgeous, recently renovated 1920's home features its own private garden, a welcome green oasis in the bustling metropolis of Mexico City. Spend the morning exploring the neighborhood, then retire for a siesta or afternoon coffee on the terrace. This house is the residence of a travel writer and her partner, a renowned Spanish artist. Once owned by Mexico’s Secretary of Education, Jaime Torres Bodet (a founder of our world famous Anthropology Museum) it has been painstakingly restored by the current owners in keeping with the true essence of the property, while adding a personal touch with furniture, objects and art they have collected from all over the world. This is one of the few houses in Mexico with European central heating. ( a must to have during winter ) The house has two stories and a mezzanine. On the main floor is the living room with original chimney and wood floors, kitchen, and dining room that seats 8 people and looks onto a peaceful garden. This floor also contains a half bathroom. On the mezzanine level there’s a Japanese futon and an 1800’s piano—a perfect nook to read, relax, or make music. On the second floor you’ll find the master suite with its own bathroom, balcony and separate TV room that can be used as an extra bedroom with a very comfortable Full bed. When the TV room is used as a bedroom it has his own entrance. Two additional bedrooms on this level share another bathroom: one has a queen-sized bed, the other two twin beds that can be joined to form a king-sized bed. Linens are of the finest quality Egyptian cotton. The house is fully serviced. Our housekeeper Ceci will spoil you with fresh orange juice and a selection of fresh fruit, bread, and homemade jam. And, of course, there’s fresh ground Mexican coffee and an excellent selection of fine teas. (We also offer options for vegan travelers.) This is one of the few houses in central Mexico City with its own private garden, a welcome green oasis in this bustling megalopolis. You will feel like a local resident, as well as a pampered guest at a first class hotel. Welcome to your own Mexican dream! Guest have access to the whole house. I will be available all the time by text, phone and email. I’ll send my detailed guide to the house and the neighborhood La Condesa is one of Mexico City's most beautiful, trendy, and safe neighborhoods. Central East Austin is a diverse and dynamic neighborhood that is just a few minutes from downtown and yet still quiet. In addition to offering of some of Austin's best restaurants and music venues, it also has important history to explore. In the last century, highway 35 was a tool of segregation, with east (of 35) Austin providing a rich community for African Americans. See how this history lives on through a plethora of old and new businesses is this burgeoning neighborhood! There is a parking spot that you are welcome to use directly in front of the house and there is also plenty of street parking with no permitting or street cleaning concerns. The closest B-Cycle station is a 15 minute walk away at Victory Grill on 11th St. Many of the 6th St restaurants and bars are a 10 minute walk as well. If you would prefer not to walk, there are a selection of ride share services such as RideAustin (our favorite), Lyft, or Uber. The street has two names, Hamilton Ave and Richard Overton Ave. Depending on your map source you may see either one pop up. Richard Overton is the oldest living American and American World War II veteran at 112 years of age. He lives down the block where be bought a house after the war ended.
