Places to stay in All Cannings

Places to stay in All Cannings
open for NHS key workers only. Bright and airy garden room with a Scandinavian feel. A sunny morning terrace with table and chairs.
The studio was formerly an art studio and there are even some pictures on the walls that were painted in it. It is a good size space even with the sofa bed down in bed position. It has a little patio which get the sun in the mornings and is ideal for breakfast or lunch outdoors. The sofa bed is a standard double size, but very long. It has a mattress topper to ensure a good night's sleep. The Studio is ideal for walkers with their dogs; you can go through a gate in the garden into the National Trust field surrounding the property and walk up the Dene or go to the woods or downs. It is also perfect for cyclists as we are just off the popular National Cycle Route 45, and there is a shed to lock bikes in. It's a lovely, light space with big windows on all sides and black out curtains to keep the light out while sleeping.
The Lockeridge Dene is a conservation area. The land surrounding the property is owned by the National Trust and is of interest because the Sarcen stones lying in the field were used to make the nearby Avebury Neolithic Stone Circle. We are located on the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in this charming village with its stone and thatch cottages. There is a pub in the village which serves good food and local real ale. Just up a track by the house are the West Woods with amazing bluebells in late April/early May, they are a real treat to see and smell. The edge of the Downs are fantastic for walking with the Ridgeway and Wansdyke located about 2 miles away. There is a good riding stables in Stanton St Bernard and you can go riding out on the downs from there. The National Cycle Route 45 is on the doorstep for cycling enthusiasts. In addition there are many Neolithic site such as Avebury Stone Cirlce, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Borrow 3 miles away, and Stonehenge 20 miles away. Bath is about a 50 minute drive. It has the Roman Baths, The Holbein Museum, The Pump Rooms, the Costume Museum, and if relaxing is more your thing there is the Bath Spa with its natural thermal water.
  • Staying in Jessica's garden Chalet was a beautiful, cosy, snug experience. We used it as a perfect base to visit the Avebury sites and Marlborough and some local walks - all within 5 to 10 mins drive. Beautiful location in a valley on the edge of the village. Even the lack of mobile signal adds to the charm. We will definitely come back here for further visits. Thank you Jessica and your very beautiful sensitive loving dogs

  • Great spot in stunning Bishop's Cannings, right by the church- which was perfect as I was attending a wedding there. The room and private bathroom were equipped with everything you could possibly need. Much nicer than the photos in my opinion and I had a lovely night's sleep in the double bed. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area for work or pleasure.

Lots of local knowledge if you want it and information in the room.Private parking space and own bathroom ,cozy room with tea and coffee facilities. Spotlessly clean. John and Avril and Hector the dog were wonderful hosts and will definitely return when next in the area.

  • This was a perfect one night stay for us. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything we could need. John was friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

  • John and Avril’s place is marvellous for a stay anywhere near the historic tourists spots be it Stonehenge or Bath or Avebury etc. The house is idyllic and is accessible by public transport. The listing is wonderful and could accommodate upto 3 adults and a kid at ease. We were 3 adults who fit in comfortably. The listing is much more spacious than the actual pics which is quite a rare thing. The beds were tidy, comfortable and the room was stocked with books, toys etc. The toilet was spotlessly clean and stocked up with all the amenities. Furthermore the bathroom/ toilet was right beside the room and due to thoughtful sound proofing, the noises doesn’t get transmitted. The house in itself was very clean. The hosts were kind enough to leave us some chocolates and other coffee/ tea making amenities. More than anything, John and Avril were wonderful humans who were kind and ensured our comfort throughout the stay. They also helped us with local tips and it was our pleasure to get to know them. Their pet is absolutely lovely and one of the most well mannered one. I would totally recommend their listing for any type of stay - couples, friends or family.

  • This was a great escape! The quintessential local English expérience with a warm and welcoming couple and their sweet dog. • The Wee Croft is small but perfectly formed. We had everything we needed for a NYE and Birthday trip away. The furnishings are modern country cottage style. The accommodation was clean and in a great location to walk into town/the canal tow path for walks. Devizes is a friendly town, relaxed on NYE with free entry to many venues and with so many pubs to choose from, you won’t have to queue to get in or at the bar! Great time had by all. Will recommend to family and friends. Thank you for having us Katie and Neil.

Nestled in the back garden of our 15th Century Cottage in a rural village, at the end of a no-through road, guests are assured of a peaceful and quiet stay. Yet with Devizes just 3 miles away, you are close enough to enjoy the bustle of this Market Town and its many interesting Coffee Shops, Restaurants and Pubs. We are situated on the edge of the Pewsey Vale and within easy access of Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge and Marlborough.
The Annex has a king size bed, an en suite shower and toilet, a small fridge, a microwave and tea and coffee facilities. Milk will be in the fridge as well as some homemade biscuits and bananas. As there is no separate kitchen and dish washing facilities are limited to the hand basin in the bathroom, we suggest that any crockery and cutlery used (especially if you are here for a few days) is left on the table outside. I will run it through my dishwasher and return it to you by the evening.
Etchilhampton is a small rural village. There is a Community Shop and a Pub in All Cannings which is two miles away. Devizes which is a Market Town is three miles away.
  • A lovely place, cosy and clean and well equipped. A place where you feel at ease. Many details reflect her diligent eye for detail (come and discover!). A very unique view at garden and parc! Oh, that countryside.

  • Welcoming and confy! We felt at home. Only stayed one night, Mandy welcomed us very warmly. She seemed so nice we were sorry we did not have a chance to know her more and stay longer ! Confortable room, everything we needed and more was inside. I liked the small attentions like fresh milk and butter in our fridge. Coffee, chocolate, tea, sugar, two cups, different sized towels etc.. There is even a TV in the room ! Thank you very much, and I would recommend a 100%

    Sabine2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we found Mandy's home on Airbnb, everything was positive. Her quick responses to our questions and the booking process was super fast and our welcome was warm and helpful. We would not hesitate to stay here again. The room was spotless with tea and coffee making facilities, along with a toaster and preserves. The bathroom is large and shower is powerful and easy to use. There are lots of extras here too, from soap to hair conditioner/body wash. You will want for nothing. Mandy's home is perfect for any length of stay and we are looking forward to staying again. Thank you Mandy for your kindness and thoughtfulness, you are a super host with a stunning home. Best regards, Carrie and David.

  • Lori was very welcoming and amenable The room and space is fantastic value for money! Lori was really helpful in pointing out the local area and places of interest to me. Unfortunately due to ill health I had to cut my stay short but will definitely consider booking for a future stay.

  • Lori's place is a beautiful, calm, creative environment and the perfect place for a relaxing break. The bedroom overlooks the countryside, the self serve breakfast hits the spot and the accommodation is within easy reach of interesting towns and ancient sites (Avebury etc). For creative folk and bookbinders Lori also runs a programme of courses in her studio with internationally recognised tutors so I will definitely be back! Highly recommended.

We really hit the jackpot with Annabelle who was super helpful and communicative and made sure that the cottage would be well-equipped for our baby. Our older two children absolutely loved it too. Very comfortable beds and great kitchen facilities! We hope to be back soon.

We briefly saw Maggie upon check in, and then had to rush off to an event, but the studio was warm when we arrived, and there were little touches of milk and biscuits with the place being really clean. We had a good night's sleep again, and cannot thank Maggie enough for providing an excellent value for money airbnb!

A large double room, light and airy and very close to Kennet and Avon canal. It has a modern en-suite shower room with sink and toilet. Crisp cotton sheets. USB charging points. A help yourself continental breakfast is included. Perfect for the canal and a 15 min walk to centre of town. We have lived in the area for many years and have information on local walks, pubs, places: Bath, Salisbury, Avebury, Stonehenge and Lacock. Devizes is a lovely market town with much to see. Great for couples.
Best for one or two people, although we could accommodate one other person on the sofabed in the lounge downstairs. There is a toilet and sink downstairs too.
We live right at the top of the famous flight of locks on the Kennet and Avon canal. Stunning views, wonderful walks and wildlife right on the doorstep. A 15 minute walk along the towpath and you are in Devizes, a charming market town with two independent breweries, many lovely cafes, pubs and places to eat. There is a cinema here, as well as regular music events, and various arts festivals.
  • Hilary's place was ideal for our weekend away especially with the canal so close. Our hosts were friendly and helpful, providing everything you needed in the room and their kitchen. We liked the booklet of walks, places to eat and local info - would definitely recommend.

  • Hilary's place : Great accommodation, large bedroom and bed, very nice ensuite bathroom. Used the kitchen for a meal and dining table for meals. I found Hilary and her partner very friendly and, accommodating. I would highly recommend this place.

    Saladin2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Hilary’s place is so well located, just steps from the canal which was perfect for our short walking holiday! The room is comfortable and clean with lovely toiletries in the en-suite and soft fluffy towels. A kettle and tea in the bedroom was a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious and we found the whole stay very enjoyable.

    Kate2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely one night stay at Hilary's place. The room with en-suite was very cozy, warm and spotless. There were plenty of free-parking space in the street although Hilary kindly parked her car in front of the house to save us a spot in case there would be too many cars and no more space available. She was also communicative and available before and during our stay and she provided all the useful information to get to her place. We felt very welcome into her home. And she also kindly offered us some breakfast options that met our diets which we thought was very thoughtful of her. Finally the location is great, we didn't know Devizes and the locks that are literally out of the front door. This was really an interesting sight and walk. Highly recommended place to stay.

The Old Chapel is recently renovated to a high standard and equipped to a high standard for use as my own holiday house in England. Downstairs is the open space lounge and kitchen and upstairs are two bedrooms and a bathroom. Car parking is literally at the door. The house is well insulated and centrally heated. It is good for couples and families as well as single travellers. I enjoy the easy access to country walks as well as to the interesting market towns of Devizes and Marlborough.
A small desk with printer and second screen is located at one end of the lounge room. The centre of the room is set up for sitting with two settees and a coffee table. There is a modern digital high resolution TV attached to a Harman Kardon amplifier and speaker set to give high quality sound. This can also be used to play your own music via any MP3 device. At the end of the open space is a dining table with four chairs. The kitchen is equipped with stone bench tops, electric stove and oven.
The Old Chapel is close to Devizes (5 min), Avebury (10 min), Marlborough (15 min), Stonehenge (35 min), Bath (45 min), Lacock (25 min) and three golf courses I know of. It is surrounded by an organic dairy and egg farm. Horton is intersected twice by the Kennet and Avon canal, which is excellent for walking or narrow boating. There is, of course, a number of local pubs, including some good food ones.
  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay at The Old Chapel with our 2 year old and 3 month old. Such a fantastic place with lovely welcoming touches; fresh homemade bread, eggs, milk and butter all on arrival. The space was great and beds very comfortable, it’s finished to a very high standard with all the amenities you would need. Great place, would stay again!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Old Chapel. A great location for exploring tge area with all the home comforts you could possibly want or need. We are looking forward to staying here again.

  • This place is SO well equipped, with everything you could need in the kitchen, and thoughtful welcome gifts such as local bread and organic eggs. The space is beautiful, and well furnished. Storm Dennis raged during our entire stay, but we were happy to stay in, on the two massive sofas, watching Netflix! There was even enough space in the living area to throw down my yoga mat! One great feature was the blackout blinds in both bedrooms, affording a proper lie in! Bliss.

    Sarah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this cute little Chapel, it was nice and warm, easy to check in, and very clean and comfortable. We appreciated the little personal touches and welcome gifts of bread and eggs. We hope to visit this special place again very soon. Thankyou Derek :) kirsty and Oona

    Kirsty2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Chapel is the PERFECT countryside getaway. It's a beautiful place, kept sparkling clean and tidy, and we were really touched after a long journey to find fresh bread, milk and eggs waiting for us. Derek provided ample information about how the various parts of the house worked e.g. Boiler, heating, where extra linens were etc and also great directions to the house. It was toasty warm thanks to the extra heaters around, the bedrooms were lovely and everything was so quiet. Set in the country, it's definitely a place to stay if you have a car but probably quite difficult to get around if not. I would 100% recommend the Old Chapel as a place for a quiet getaway and thank you to Derek for being such a great host - shout out to Jacquie as well for keeping the place so homely. Thanks!

There is an excellent bakery on North Street where hot rolls and coffee can be bought, a cafe and a take away lunch venue on the High Street.
  • Second stay here, can't fault it. Great communication, perfect size for what we needed and well presented.

  • Helen, Iago and everyone offered such hospitality with warmth and kindness. Wonderful clean and cozy room with many windows to let light in. Quite spacious too. Heater is warm - thank you for warming up the room before our arrival! The amenities like tea set and hairdryer are very thoughtful. Be aware there is no body wash or shampoo! Love how close and accessible it is from the train station. We loved our stay here.

    Melissa2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely bedroom and bathroom above a microbrewery.

    Helen2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • a very spacious comfortable and pricate room, only a short walk down the hill into the village.

    Michael2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • You climb a few easy stairs and find yourself in a light, airy room - blindingly white and clean. It is essentially a bedroom with attached facilities. I slept very well aided probably by the Landlord's excellent beers; I did not notice any aroma or noise from the attached microbrewery. I was walking and can't see how you can go wrong with this as a base for some beautiful and easy walking countryside. The pub itself was very friendly as were mein Hosts. I ate twice at the pub and the food was good. There is no attempt to overextend so the meals are not elaborate or fancy (or pricey). It's very close to the railway station and a little walk into the village where there are most things you would want. The local bus services go north, south, east and west but not on a Sunday!

  • We had a fab stay at this crown in pewsey. The accommodation was perfect, clean and tidy and was exactly as advertised. A very cute family run village pub. We stayed for a wedding close by and found it was the perfect location. Pewsey is a very cute little village with a few pubs and shops to visit. We had a Sunday lunch at our accommodation which was unbelievable value and a great roast. I also dined on the Friday evening whilst waiting for my husband to arrive, the best pub lasagne I have ever had. Hosts were friendly and happy to have a chat, we felt very welcome. It’s a 20min drive to malbrough which was nice to visit, lots of shops, restaurants, pubs etc. It cost £22 in a taxi to get back to pewsey which I thought was quite good value on a Sunday evening. I would love to stay here again if I am ever in need of accommodation in the area. Many thanks Helen

En Suite Lodge Tents very central to many places of historic interest, in the North Wessex Downs Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty and next to the Kennet and Avon Canal with hundreds of miles of bridleway and footpaths on the doorstep. Please also see our other lodges https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/20401514 https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/33602312
Slow down, cook on a wood fired stove, play board games with the kids in candlelight. Sit on the veranda and take in skies where you cannot see space for the stars.
Please take a look at the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Website!
  • Fantastic fun place to stay. Really clean and very cosy with the log fire. This is proper glamping - hot running water and fridge! Lovely homeade flapjacks on arrival and the hosts could not have been more welcoming.

    Kelly2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Mel and Richard place was just what we required. Lovely place to stay. Taking a camping stove for the cuppas is recommend other than that there’s is lots of information on local places. Meet friends and relax in a genuinely quiet and pretty place.

    Linda2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect stay if you are wanting a weekend away from the hustle of busy life and wanting to spend sometime in the countryside away from distractions. I came here with a group of my friends to celebrate my birthday, and Mel was kind enough to bake me some cupcakes which was such a lovely welcome to the lodge. Both Mel and Richard were more than happy to discuss things we could do in the area and help us out with anything inside the lodge if necessary. Be aware that, because the tents aren't very thick, you do have to be cautious with noise level beyond a certain hour - we had a family with children next to us which meant we couldn't really play music. However, this did not spoil the weekend whatsoever and I highly recommend this trip away for anybody.

  • Had such a lovely time at Honey Bee Glamping! We checked in after dark (thanks to traffic - not recommended!!) and were warmly shown around, in the morning it was a nice surprise to have a real look about! The tents are huge! They have comfy beds lovely views and a nice little living space. As with any glamping it’s a little cold at night but under the warm duvets you couldn’t tell! it was such a lovely mini break we all enjoyed our stay. Would recommend to anyone looking to explore the area. Thanks so much!

    Sera2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • My second visit this time with the family, we loved it all, Mel her girls and partner are all lovely and very helpful in every way. The children loved it and can’t wait to go back, the bedding is amazing and so comfortable

    Kiri2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our safari tent mini break. Mel and family are the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble, lovely personal touches such as flowers and home baked shortbread. The tent is so well equipped, spotless clean and in a perfect location for visiting many attractions. My children loved helping with the farm animals too. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much for a fab stay!

    Jem2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely 6 days. The tent was spotlessly clean and some lovely biscuits on arrival baked by Florence. It really is glamping, as the beds, running water, flushing toilet and shower mean you get all the benefits of sleeping outside (the kids slept better than at home) with the comfort of home. Mel and family were great hosts, always available and willing to chat, but not intrusive. If staying in the summer, I would advise bringing a camping stove for early morning coffee / tea, rather than having to get the wood-fired stove going. If you’re thinking about booking, don’t hesitate.

    Matthew2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay I would recommend taking a camping stove for making tea and coffee ,there are facilities to make hot drinks but it’s very slow

Stable Cottage is a cosy and comfortable detached thatched cottage, alongside a small brook and overlooking gardens and fields. The village has a traditional pub and local shop/post office within walking distance. The cottage is furnished and equipped to a very high standard. It is near the small market town of Devizes which has been described as a 'mini Bath' with its regular weekly market and good selection of independent shops and places to eat. Near Stonehenge, Avebury, Longleat, Bath.
You can enjoy staying in a traditional English thatched cottage - don't forget to look for the old hay loft door outside. The cottage has access directly onto the garden. A table and chairs are available to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet and the view over the stream and fields. A king fisher has sometimes been spotted by the stream!
The cottage is set in a English country lane but away from the road. The area is quiet and peaceful and the locals are friendly.
  • Great cosy place, in a very nice village. Highly recommended.

  • Our stay at stable cottage was absolutely lovely, it was exactly as nice in person as in the photos. Amenities are great and located in a very good countryside area. Very cosy and well worth the money.

  • We stayed at The Stable Cottage for 5 nights while we played at a music festival at Cleeve House. The cottage was a wonderfully peaceful counterpoint to the buzz of the festival and just what we needed to relax afterwards. It is so cosy with everything you could possibly need. We particularly enjoyed the gardens it is set in, listening to the birds and the wee burn outside. Potterne is a very interesting village and it's very easy to get around the Devizes / Melksham area from there.

  • Superb value in a great location. We loved this cozy cottage and would definitely stay again. Anne & Tony were friendly and welcoming hosts and the house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Superbly equipped kitchen, cozy lounge and very comfortable bed. Highly recommended.

You can stay in one of Devizes oldest and most prestigious properties. We live in the east wing which was once a large Manor House belonging to a local snuff factory owner, with its own deer park. It is now the town park with children’s play area, free tennis court, cafe and Haha The spacious room with a high ceiling and marble fireplace, has recently been fully redecorated with new private en suite. It has far reaching views over the town with Oliver’s castle and Roundway hill in the distance.
There is parking at the front of the house on a private gravel driveway. We have put in a single day bed with trundle bed underneath which make it suitable for a family of 4. We do not charge anything extra but do have a minimum 2 night stay for more than 2 people.
Devizes is one of Wiltshire’s best market towns, famous for the Caen hill flight of locks on the Kennet and Avon canal, Wadworth Brewery with its own drey horses delivering the local ale. An excellent food and clothes market every Thursday. The Devizes museum is a 3 minute walk which always gets excellent reviews for its ever changing exhibitions. Well situated for Stonehenge, Bath and Salisbury, all about a 30 minute drive. Local buses also leave from the market place to many other destinations.
  • Lovely people, lovely accommodation. The room is big and comfortable. Very friendly and helpful. The place is very close to town and they recommended an excellent pub for dinner. Highly recommended. Thanks again, we loved it.

  • Very good location, the room is large and the family is very comfortable. The main mattress is very comfortable. The landlord couple is very nice, the breakfast and the fruit are very rich.

  • We stayed two nights at Steve's and Judy's place and we loved every minute of it! There's a lovely park at the back of the house with a nice playground, my kids just loved it! The place is very well located, walking distances to pubs, supermarkets, bus stops. We visited Stonehenge (20 minutes drive) and Bath (40 minutes drive) and Salisbury. Our hosts were very welcoming, friendly and helpful with top tips on places to visit, parking and places to eat. We took part in a confetti battle that was happening at the time of our stay in Devizes( highlight of our weekend). The room has a lovely character and quite spacious, beds were comfortable. We had a lovely breakfast provided by our hosts. We loved staying here and I can't recomend it enough! Very good value for your money. We look forward to come back again soon :-) .

  • Welcoming, fun hosts and a fantastic place to stay. Big and airy room with good views of Devizes in a quiet street located a few blocks from the main square. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

  • Such an outstanding host - honestly did every possible thing to make our stay outstanding. Room was very spacious with a nice breakfast and a 5 minute walk into town centre!! I strongly recommend this to anyone staying in Devises!

  • A home from home, a quiet, comfortable place and Steve and Judy's room accessories and items ensure you have everything you need.. apart from your own clothes and things of course.. Through full touches and super easy going makes this THE place to stay if there are two of you.

  • Steve and Judy are the ultimate hosts, extremely welcoming, helpful and accommodating. They gave a lovely home and the guest room is very comfortable with high ceilings, plenty of natural light, a generous breakfast spread including cereals, bread for toasting, yoghurt, milk, juice and fresh fruit plus tea and coffee. There is a large park with playground literally behind the house that my almost 4 year old son loved playing at. Also only a 5 minute walk into the cute township of Devizes.

Enjoy the tranquility of this charming country retreat on the outskirts of Rowde. Set in its own little orchard, this self contained annex is just a stone’s throw away from the Kennet and Avon Canal and within easy reach of the pretty market town of Devizes. Lovingly converted in 2019, the Orchard Retreat offers high standard living accommodation for up to 4 people with all mod cons and a warm, welcoming feel – not least thanks to its beautiful décor and cosy underfloor heating throughout.
The Orchard Retreat has a cosy double bedroom with a comfortable double bed which boasts a pocket sprung mattress topped with memory foam – giving amazing levels of support and comfort. The sofa in the sitting room can easily be converted into a comfy double bed – thus giving the option of accommodating two further guests. The open plan kitchen & living room is a beautiful, airy, bright space with natural light streaming in by day through the fully glazed contemporary French style sliding patio doors which look out onto the patio and orchard and the two velux windows in the roof can be remotely controlled to allow just the right amount of fresh air into the room. The generously sized fully fitted kitchen with breakfast bar is well equipped and offers everything you may want for a self catering holiday: high quality Neff gas hob and oven with extraction unit over, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washing machine, Nespresso coffee maker complete with starter pods, kettle and toaster – and the breakfast bar can double as a laptop friendly workspace. The living room area seats 4 people and whether you just fancy looking out onto the orchard, relaxing over a glass of wine, reading a book or you like to switch off watching TV (a smart tv) or surfing the web on our free, unrestricted Wifi, you can be sure that nothing but possibly a few cheeky squirrels or some deer looking for the orchard fruit will disturb your peace. On sunny days you can sit outside on the patio or under the trees in the orchard where you may find our free range hens rooting around. Beyond the orchard, through an opening in the hedge, you can see a paddock where our horse can often be found grazing - fenced in by an electric tape fence. A fully tiled, spacious, modern wetroom with power shower, low level WC and heated towel rail completes the Orchard Retreat perfectly and, of course, you will find soap, shampoo, nice soft towels and a hairdryer at your disposal to make your entire stay as enjoyable, easy and comfortable as possible. The Orchard Retreat has its own private entrance and 2 private parking spaces (more can be arranged on request).
This location offers the best of both worlds: a peaceful countryside setting with lots of great walks and cycling routes at its doorstep, starting with the world-famous Caen Hill Locks of the Kennet and Avon Canal just a minute’s walk away (which is also a much visited spot by fishermen) and it is also within direct reach of great road links to visit and explore the great historic and prehistoric sites, National Trust villages and famous towns and cities of the area. There is nearby Lacock with its famous Abbey where some of the iconic Harry Potter scenes were filmed, Bowood House and Gardens, Avebury and Marlborough. Furthermore, there is Stonehenge, located on Salisbury Plain, about 16 miles south of Devizes and a further 8 miles south of Stonehenge is the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury. The Roman city of Bath, Longleat, Stourhead and the Cotswold Water Park are also not further than a 40 to 50 minute car journey away. As Wiltshire is famous for its White Horses carved into the chalkstone hills, why not visit the nearby Pewsey or Westbury White Horse – or for that matter – make it your mission to see them all during your stay! As we are situated just outside the village of Rowde you can walk to our award winning local village pub, the George and Dragon, via a pretty footpath which partly leads through the picturesque Caen Hill Diamond Jubilee Wood which borders the Caen Hill Locks. It is only a 10 to 15 minute stroll into the village. The Rowdey Cow, a farm café and ice cream parlour set in the middle of farm land overlooking beautiful countryside, can also be reached within 20 minutes on foot via the Jubilee Wood walk and along the edge of fields (or via the main road if preferred). It serves delicious breakfast, lunch and lots of home made cakes as well as home made Italian ice cream. Devizes and the surrounding local villages offer more places to eat. Just ask us for recommendations!
  • Thanks so much for your hospitality Suzi and John. You guys were amazing. Lottie definitely made our trip, she’s so cute! We will definitely be visiting again. It was spotless, spacious and felt just like home xx

  • The Orchard Retreat was everything we hoped for and more! We stayed here for an anniversary due to the fact we both love the area and it was convenient for work my boyfriend had. The Retreat was clean, well styled and had everything we needed over the weekend. Suzi herself was a great help to the weekend and we couldn’t ask for a better host! We will hopefully be returning at some point!

  • Great location, lovely place to stay

    Tessa2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our month stay at orchard retreat while we looked for houses and jobs in the area. The place itself is a very comfortable, modern space. Well equipped with modern facilities to self cater. The underfloor heating was a luxury. Everything was very clean, thoughtfully furnished and the hosts caring and attentive. The place is set in a very quiet area behind the main house. It is well located, being walkable distance to the village centre and the town of Devizes. If I didn't now live in the area I would certainly stay again. I thoroughly recommend this place.

  • Lovely studio apartment in the country. Very quiet and peaceful. Well furnished and very comfortable. An excellent base from which to explore the towns of Marlborough, Devizes and Salisbury, and also the many prehistoric sites in the area. We had a splendid three days here and highly recommend the property and our hosts.

  • This is exactly how I'd describe a 5 star AirBnB. Well decorated, fresh and new but traditional-feeling, it was lovely and warm on a stormy weekend. Everything was clean, there was everything we needed to cook but there were also lots of pubs and restaurants a short distance away. Check-in was easy, communication was clear and prompt, and the garden was absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend - we'll certainly be coming back.

    Andreas2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Little Langside is a wonderfully appointed studio in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside. Its perfectly located to serve as a base to explore the prehistoric landscape that takes in the renowned World Heritage Site of Avebury, Silbury Hill and West Kennet Longbarrow. The apartment is a self-contained annex and faces out onto the garden at the rear of the hosts house and the fields beyond. It is a cozy, quiet, private and exceedingly comfortable. Sheila is a fabulous host, extremely friendly and thoughtful. Her local tips and recommendations are right on the mark. We spent a lovely couple of relaxed evenings as Sheila's guests and would not hesitate to book again. Two thumbs up!

    Daniel2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in this beautiful annexe, tucked away in the countryside. Sheila was a great host and we had everything we needed. Would certainly recommend as a great place to stay for a relaxing getaway.

    Toby2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila's place is beautifully appointed, cozy and a wonderful point from which to explore the glorious countryside of Wiltshire, with multiple paths, trails, forests and hills all right on the doorstep. An incredibly gracious host Sheila kindly drove us into town on our arrival as we had come in without provisions, and the place was immaculate, with incredible views. A small asterisk would be to make sure you drive as taxis are incredibly hard to secure and there are no bus services on the weekend, but this does not detract from the perfect stay with Sheila!

    Matt2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully furnished, well equipped, cosy and sparkling clean. Very peaceful and ideally placed for walking, cycling, visiting local pubs or a trip into pretty Marlborough

    Ginny2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila’s place was a total delight to stay in - cozy, homely and stylish, it had everything we needed for a few idyllic days in the countryside. Great location too, the start of many beautiful walks were only a short drive away - very handy! Thank you Sheila for having us, hope to be back soon!

    Aishwarya2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Found this gem of place to stay at really late notice. Stayed for 2 nights and was perfect. The location is tranquil and beautiful with views across the countryside. I didn't see the friendly chickens until I was about to leave :( but this was due to the bad weather (You have now made me want chickens myself one day!) Within an hours drive of main towns it is perfect for visiting places like Swindon and Salisbury. Overall we had a brilliant time and wish it was longer! Thanks again x

  • Another great stay at Rutters, Gertie and Mike are great hosts and everything is always clean with added touches to make your stay enjoyable

  • Really sweet and cosy little cabin with everything you could need for a few days away. Gertine was so easy to communicate with before the visit and left some lovely little Valentines touches (chocolates and love hearts) as we arrived on the evening of Feb 13th! There were 2 hot water bottles and a dressing gown each too making it extra homely and a lovely place to stay.

    Nicola2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Gertine’s place is fantastic, will look forward to booking again and staying longer! Many thanks.

    David2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • It was an absolutely beautiful space that was so cozy. And it was so close to town, and local pubs and restaurants. Would highly recommend!

  • This is the second time I have stayed at the Rutter. It is in a good location for me because I'm normal down in Devizes area for work.

    Kieran2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very cosy space, close to the main house but still very private. Greeted with a very warm welcome, guide book included very clear expectations and good information on the area. Lots of nice little touches, mince pies, slippers, blankets etc. Very well equipped kitchen. Would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone looking for a thoughtful and respectful air bnb host!

A self contained top floor flat in an early period Victorian house, set in the heart of the Wiltshire Downs. Containing everything you would need at home, the apartment has a spacious double bedroom plus a twin bedroom, sleeping four. It is totally self sufficient, with sitting room, kitchen and bathroom. The Cherill White Horse a mile away with fantastic walks, and hundreds of traditional west country pubs around the area.
I do have two dogs who love people coming to the house as they think they have come to play a game with them - so as much as they will love you, it is probably not suitable for anyone who has an allergy to dogs. Access is via the main house front door and staircase and has off street, free parking available, with a village shop/post office 50 metres away. I will most likely be downstairs, and available for anything you might need.
We are within v. easy access to all the following: Avebury, Silbury Hill, Bowood House/Gardens, Lacock Abbey etc., Caen Hill Locks/Devizes, Atwell Wilson Motor Museum, Fox Talbot Museum, Kennet & Avon Canal Pubs/Restaurants: The Black Dog,The Dumb Post, The White Horse, The Black Horse, Coconut, The Black Swan etc. Longleat, Stonehenge are not far as well. The White Horse/Lansdowne Monument 1 mile. Chippenham (7 miles) is a useful town and has a railway station.
  • Jane is a brilliant host and Deepwell House is not only delightful, it is cosy and comfortable. The Kitchenette has everything you need to prepare a snack or a meal. Jane left me a welcome pack which comprised of milk, butter, marmalade, croissants, crisps and cereal which was very nice. There is a 2 ring hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and tea and coffee. The wiFi is very good and the parking a bonus, although you could park on the road. You also have Freewiew TV to watch. The Double bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable. I would highly recommend a stay at Deepwell House and would definitely return

  • Gray place to stay , very warm and friendly, thank you

    Simon2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Expect an instant home. Such good value. A very relaxing stay especially that i worked long hours. Netflix, I found it on the third day. But a lovely surprise. Lots of surprises in fact but I won't spoil your experience dont book a hotel. Book here. I have watched enough four in a bed, to know that her gorgeous loft at at Deepwell would pass the test. Will be a very fond memory. If you want peace plus you are within walking distance of Avebury. A hike but "dayable ". Well done Jane.

  • We had a lovely stay in Jane's home. We loved the accommodation it had every thing that we needed. It was clean and very comfortable. It was in a great location to explore the surrounding area. We would recommend her holiday home to our friends. Thanks from the Jones family.

    Gary2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent space and fantastic value for money. The kitchen and lounge space are great to make it that much more than just a bedroom and lets you cook your own meals. Jane provides lots of cooking equipment and utensils which are all you could need for a few nights, plus a great welcome pack which was a nice surprise. Bathroom is also well equipped with a good shower and excellent water pressure. Lounge area has a nice comfy sofa and a smart TV mounted on the wall with Netflix / AmazonPrime (assuming you have a subscription) in addition to freeview. The over all space is bigger than it looks on the pictures, although one thing to note is that at 6'3" I was only a couple of inches off the ceiling - so might be a bit compromised for anyone over 6'4"! Entrance is via the front door, with a key, and up a couple of flights of stairs to the top floor apartment, so you can be nice and private. I'd certainly consider staying here again.

This exceptional and spacious family home is perfectly located for your stay in the West Country. The house itself is rambling and very old, although it was Georgianised two hundred years ago by a previous owner who had done well for himself!
This is a wonderful place to stay. It is an extraordinary house and we love sharing it with guests.
There is lots going on in Devizes, from the Devizes to Westminster canoe race, Arts Festival and Food Festival, amongst other events.
  • I've been in Annie's house for a month and can only recommend it. Nice clean room with private bathroom. Annie and the other roommates are all very friendly and always available for a nice chat. Last but not least, the house is close to the city centre and is therefore ideal if you decide to travel without a car.

    Tobias2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Thank your Annie, for the warm welcome and for allowing me to stay in your beautiful room. Room is bit, light, comfortable, and very well located. Even in almost centre town, at night is silent and quiet. 5 min walking to the centre. I didn't needed to use it, but Annie offered fridge space and free access to the kitchen. Excellent experience, would be happy to be back.

  • What an amazing place with some lovely welcoming touches! We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to others. We've stayed in some not-so-comfy places in the past and delighted to say this wasn't one of them - the beds were super comfortable and the place was lovely and warm.

    Hayley2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house was fantastic and the views amazing. We loved the peace of the place.

    Jorge2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • My wife, our son and I booked to go to Longleat for the festival of light. We came across Gills place which is 30-40 minutes drive. Stonehenge is very close too. It’s in a lovely location in a small village, pub within walking distance and lots of walks in the area. The cottage is wonderful, so warm and a cozy place. It’s got everything you need, kitchen well equipped and a lovely touch having fresh bread, butter and jam. There’s a DVD player and DVDs which was great having films for our son to watch. He also loved hiding in the huge wardrobes. The beds are very comfortable and the showers great - the place is actually a lot bigger than we expected from the photos. It’s got loads of space for parking and is at the back of the owners house down a long driveway. Behind the cottage is lots of land which we were free to walk around. We would jump at the chance to stay here again, it’s great value and a really lovely place - Gill has done a fantastic job with the place and hasn’t missed any detail.
