Places to stay in Greystoke
Awarded 4 Stars by Visit Britain. Guests say the lodge is clean, comfortable, cosy, well appointed, relaxing and good value. Perfectly placed in the countryside of the Northern Lake District amongst other similar lodges. Near Penrith, Keswick, and the lakes of Ullswater, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. Local animals such as Red Squirrels, Pheasants, Rabbits, Hares and Deer wander about. We have our place professionally cleaned after each guest with bedding and towels included in the price.
The Lodge has been described by previous visitors as clean, comfortable, cosy, beautifully appointed, relaxing and very good value for money. The Lodge is perfectly placed in the northern Lake District to explore the whole region by car, not far from towns Penrith, Carlisle and Keswick nestling on the fringe of Greystoke Forest. Ullswater, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake are within easy reach as are many delightful climbs - Catbells, Blencathra and Latrigg to name just a few. Castlerigg Stone Circle, just outside Keswick, is perhaps the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles. The Lodge is our private holiday home and is comfortably furnished and equipped to a high standard. There are 2 twin bedrooms sleeping 4 people comfortably, fitted kitchen with integrated appliances, open plan lounge/dining area with flat screen TV, DVD and Hi-fi. Landline and Free Wifi Internet connection. The Lodge benefits from a south facing decked balcony equipped with patio table and chairs from which you can relax and enjoy the abundant wildlife.
  • We had a wonderful stay at Ralph's lodge with two kids. The lodge is gorgeous, spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped with a good collection of books, films, music, and board games. Temperature is controlled remotely via the host which would be less convenient otherwise an absolutely pleasant place, I'd thoroughly recommend it!

  • This is a really nice place to stay - the site is peaceful and quiet, with good access to the North Lakes. The lodge itself is comfortable well appointed, and we particularly enjoyed the selection of board games when the weather turned wet! Excellent communication from Ralph as well, we would recommend his place to anyone looking to stay in this area.

  • Really lovely lodge, nice and quiet location. Great stay for northern lakes.

  • Great facilities. Clean, quiet and accommodation of a high standard.

    Rob2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • A stylishly furnished, modern home in a quiet area. Ralph was very helpful and forthcoming with tips and ideas for our stay in the area and we would definitely stay here again.

  • If you are looking for a quiet relaxing getaway at a reasonable price look no further. Ralph's lodge is clean, spacious, and has everything you could need. It's a real home away from home. Wildlife is abundant with pheasants, rabbits, and red squirrels all making an appearance on the front lawn. Excellently located, just a short drive to both Penrith and Keswick, along with a host of nearby attractions and places to eat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would recommend to all.

  • 2 people, stayed for 3 days wed - fri: A modern accommodation in a remote location. Very quiet surroundings with beautiful views, particularly at night with a clear sky! The lodge is very cozy, warm and has all the modern necessity's required for an easy stay. Temperature is controlled via the host but it was set just right anyway. Parking is next to the lodge. Everything supplied was in good condition and showed the signs of a place that is well maintained. Very clean and tidy inside with comfortable furniture that is well laid out. A small (but good) collection of DVDs supplied with a DVD player and good quality Sony TV, OS maps of the area (OL4 & OL5 definitely worth studying!) and a full compliment of pots, pans and crockery in the kitchen with a full size fridge and freezer. Some awesome books in the collection too for those who like to read. WIFI works a treat and is absolutely essential to planning a day out! The beds are very comfortable but singles only (they push together to make a double just fine for those who like to spread eagle at night! :) with plenty of storage space for clothes and gear. All bedding and towels supplied. Bathroom has a nice big walk in shower, very clean and well kept. A small terrace outside with chairs and a table (i found the cushions in the cupboard as we were leaving....) The host is available when required and we were left alone to enjoy our stay. Just a quick txt to say we had arrived. Well placed for Ullswater and Derwent water, both offering tons of activities! The location is quite a way from any shops or amenities so pick up your supplies on the way back from a good days hiking! I would certainly recommend arriving in the daylight as it is quite tricky to find in the dark!! **Dont trust the sat nav 100%!** it tends to get a little bit confused and pretends to know where its going.... A bit of pigeons instinct is required when travelling around the area! Take up Ralphs recommendations on places to eat, the Boot and Shoe serves lovely grub. It gets a little busy, but the staff there are great and have lots of local knowledge. The Mill Inn has amazing home cooked pies, well worth a visit and a good place to start a rural hike! All in all a lovely cozy retreat set in a very quiet location, the perfect place to unwind! We would certainly return for another stay!

  • Really cosy, clean place with everyone you need. Ralph is very helpful and responsive. Recommended.

HerdyView Lodge is situated in a peaceful location, overlooking rolling hills surrounded by nature on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It is a cosy, modern 3 bedroom chalet with a log burner. Situated close to the market town of Penrith and Lake Ullswater it is in a perfect location for exploring the Lake District and the Eden Valley. Away from the tourist crowds but also within easy access to hotspots and amenities. There are attractions in the local area for all ages and interests.
HerdyView Lodge is a Scandinavian lodge based on a small, quiet residential site and is surrounded by local farming land on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It is within easy access to the Lake District, Eden Valley and the Peninnes. Surrounded by local wildlife and plenty of walks. The lodge is well equipped for all self catering needs and comprises of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large open plan lounge/kitchen. Guests are free to use the log burner and wood is provided for their first fire. The old traditional large windows at the front opens onto a decking area that overlooks fields in front (often occupied by Herdwick sheep). At the back of the lodge is a small garden with seating where a small BBQ and fire pit are also provided. Here also there is a small herb garden to use. There is space for two cars to park at the front of the property. There is always tea and coffee to use as well. The space is very peaceful and relaxing with herdwick sheep, rabbits, deer and cows regularly occupying the view. The lodge is convenient for the M6 north and south also.
The lodge is 5 minutes from the Market Town of Penrith and 5 minutes to Lake Ullswater. There are plenty of nice pubs, tearooms and restaurants nearby to enjoy. There is a pub within walking distance serving local ales and food. The nearest villages include Askham (an pretty village where Askham hall is located who have an award winning tea room and restaurant), Lowther (where you can explore Lowther Castle and Gardens), Tirril (the Queens Head pub here sells award winning pies). There is direct access to numerous walks/cycle routes in this surrounding area, Eden valley, Lowther land and the North Lake District fells. Lake Ullswater has many walks connected by the Ullswater steamer boats, access to different water sports and many other attractions. Pooley bridge is the nearest point on the Lake, where there are pubs, tea rooms, shops and walks. Another fantastic area to explore is Haweswater reservoir, a quieter place and where walks are more remote and equally, if not more, beautiful (if you have a Northern Lakes OS map then the front cover is a picture on a walk at Haweswater). The Market town of Penrith provides you with local amenities, supermarkets, independent shops and cafes. There are many places to take children nearby, visitor centres (such as Rheged and bird of prey centre), an ice cream farm and also many historical sites to see for example Lowther and Brough castle. From the lodge you can easily explore a wide variety of areas, not just the Lake District National Park but also the Pennines, Eden valley and the historic north Cumbria (such as Hadrians wall!)
  • Great place to stay for exploring the lakes would highly recommend

  • Stayed here for a relaxing weekend. The place was great. Comfortable, with everything you need to have a chilled time with friends. All the great info provided before we arrived meant that we could just pull up and make ourselves at home, but May was very hospitable and happy to provide any help we needed. We would stay here again.

  • We had a fantastic stay in Herdyview, what a stylish, cosy lodge! The log burner was lovely and kept the lodge warm and cosy, even during Storm Dennis! The beds are really comfy and the views are amazing. Sadly we couldn’t make use of the veranda but would highly recommend the lodge.

  • Just returned from a fabulous stay and Lisa’s house. Great location and amenities in hotel which we used. House was comfortable and cosy . Everything you need is catered for. Lisa even provided coffee, tea, sugar and biscuits - nice touch. We would definitely recommend and would love to return. Thank you 😊 xx

  • We had a great stay. House was perfect for our holiday and the on site facilities, pool/restaurant etc., were great. I’m sure we will be looking to book again in the future.

    Matthew2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay and very well priced! Lisa was a great host and the location is ideal for popping into the Lake District whilst checking out Penrith and other nice towns.

    Calum2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • The house is wonderful.. the children loved it being an ‘upside down’ house. Cosy and warm, we soon felt at home. The kitchen has everything you could think of ... even the trusty IKEA children’s plates, cups and cutlery that we all love. Quality linen and towels included and pool towels available free of charge at the hotel reception which was a great help. Lovely location, so peaceful but soon back on the main road , not far to travel to Keswick and Dodds Wood. No complaints whatsoever and we can’t wait to return.

    Felicity2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay. The house and park are brilliant; the facilities on site were great. Also loved how quick you could get out on some amazing walks like Aira Force. Will definitely come back!

Greystoke is a stunning village, the centre of which is a mere 200 yards away. We have a fabulous pub "The Boot & Shoe", a village shop where you can buy everything you may need and we are lucky enough for it still to retain it's Post Office! A short walk from the central Shop/Post Office will allow you to take in the splendour of our 14th Century Church, itself quite spectacular and something to take a look at. About 7 miles from Greystoke you will find our nearest stretch of water "Lake Ullswater" and it's just stunning. We have Pooley Bridge to one side, then Glenridding and Patterdale to the other, all have boats to hire so you can explore the Lake for yourselves, but there is always the Ferry's that can collect and drop you off at various points throughout the length of the Lake. A 20 minute drive and you could be in Keswick, a wonderful town with lots to see and do, and them there hills and mountains are calling for you to climb them. Grasmere, Ambleside and Windemere are not much further so you'll be spoilt for choice as you are surrounded with the beauty of the Lake District. Carlisle is also about a 20 minute drive from here in the other direction, itself is a fascinating place to visit, with it'a Castle and Cathedral, Tullie House Museum and much more. Just a little further and you have "Hadrian's Wall" and the Roman Fort "Birdoswald"

  • Hazel and Ian make you feel very welcome on arrival , and they did the same for our dogs ! The accommodation is lovely and cozy and just what we needed as a stop over on our way to the Highlands. Will definitely revisit !

    Jim2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous place with a real in-the-middle-of-nowhere feel, but only a few hundred metres away from Greystoke centre and a lovely pub. Beautiful scenery all around, loads of great walks and many pheasants and other birds roaming the grounds. We visited during early Feb 2020, during heavy flooding, but the grounds and the local roads were pretty much unaffected by the floods. The accommodation is lovely and warm, and the boiler room was warm enough to dry all of our stuff! There's plenty of parking and Hazel gave us a truly warm welcome and all of the information we needed about the area. We'll be back.

A stunning, modern cottage set within an ex-farm conversion. Views across the Eastern Lake District and Blencathra. Two double bedrooms, and two bathrooms make it a perfect getaway for two couples or a family. The cottage is only 5 minutes off the M6, and you can be on the edge of Lake Ullswater within 15 minutes. The local village has a fantastic country pub dating from the 17th Century, swimming pool and shop. This really is the perfect location for discovering the Lake District!
The cottage is situated in an ex-farm: Red Barn Farm. Originally part of Greystoke Castle Estate, Red Barn is comprised of 5 separate dwellings, two houses are occupied by the joint owners, and the remaining three are let for holidays. Red Barn is set in 2 acres of beautiful garden, which our free-range chickens love to wander. You can see straight across to Blencathra from our houses. Feel free to use the outdoor patio area for eating or relaxing.
Greystoke is a rural village, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Surrounded by mountains, and only 10-15mins from the nearest lake, it is a picturesque area. The village of Greystoke, which can be reached by a 5-10min walk from the property, has a great pub, swimming pool in the summer and village shop/post office. The property is only 5mins from the M6, Junction 40.
  • Had a brilliant time at the beautiful cottage. The place was very clean, tidy and spacious, tasteful decor. lovely countryside location, away from it all. Spent evenings by the wood burning stove, which was great after spending days exploring amazing lakes and mountains. Really appreciated thoughtful touches such as milk, fudge and a bottle of Prosecco. Would highly recommend

  • Wonderful space, in beautiful rural setting. Nice and cosy for a Christmas break with a Christmas tree and lights having been set-up which was a nice touch. Finished to a very high standard. Would certainly recommend

  • Can’t say enough about this lovely cottage and accommodating hosts. The cottage was a perfect blend of traditional features with modern comforts. Clean and well presented throughout, with a friendly host and lots of tips for local hot spots. The location was great, with lots of beautiful spots in the northern lakes nearby, along with practical amenities in nearby Penrith. We would definitely stay again and have already recommend to others.

We are now in our third year since renovating this 17th century cottage and I guarantee you will enjoy what we have created. We have tried to keep the character of the original building and yet be fresh and appealing for you to enjoy. The space is clean, contemporary yet cosy with all modern day comforts and king size bed to accommodate 2 guests. Skelton is a quiet village handy for M6 motorway and north lakes so is quick and easy to get to and has a pub "The Dog and Gun" serving great food.
The cottage has an open plan downstairs with kitchen area, dining space and living room. There is a full size table to have meals and the kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, kettle, toaster, microwave, washing machine. Tea,coffee and basic staple items are provided as well as all cleaning and washing up products. The living room has a fullsize TV and DVD player as well as broad band. The bedroom upstairs and bathroom have towels, fully made up bed and toiletries, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. All guests will need is their own personal toiletries and food. Outside is a small paved cottage garden with chairs and table. Guests are welcome to bring and use their own barbecue.
This is a small working Cumbrian village that is close to the lakes and mountains as well as the Scottish border. There is good access to the M6 motorway. This a traditional village with a great pub but is not a busy place but great to escape to and really find the true countryside. Upfront Gallery and tea room are a 1mile walk away and the local market town of Penrith with food shops etc is 15 minutes drive away. beautiful historic Hutton in the Forest is 3 miles away.
  • Great stay, can’t fault anything wrong with the cottage. Clean and tidy, quickly responses from the host. Location isn’t close to any real pubs/shops.

  • This was our second stay at Westoe Cottage; it was as pristine as when we first visited in 2018. The cottage is well equipped for all needs. The suggested walks from the house were really enjoyable and the location could not have been more perfect. The pub up the road is a gem; and close enough to be able to enjoy a few drinks without the worry of needing someone to drive. Would highly recommend!

  • Super Clean, cosy and really really peaceful and quiet! Joanne was really kind to show us to the place when we couldn’t find the cottage as it was dark when we reached. Otherwise, it will be easy to find as Joanne provide specific directions to get there. Check in and check out process was hassle free. We would love to be back again!

This centrally heated, one bedroom Guest Suite is part of a Georgian property built in the late 1700s. The Suite is located in Newton Reigny which is a peaceful village 5 minutes drive from the historic town of Penrith. 5 minutes to the M6 and A66 allows for easy access to the Lake District World Heritage site (the closest lake Ullswater 15 minutes drive). Free parking on the property's driveway and space also available to store equipment.
Sitting just 5 minutes from Penrith and the M6 this guest suite is in an ideal place for exploring the Lake District, town and surrounding areas. The most direct route to the closest lake Ullswater we find takes no more than 15 minutes (although Google maps says 17!). The guest suite is centrally heated by a renewable energy source. Downstairs it has a kitchen with a microwave oven, portable induction hob and a large selection of utensils. Across from the kitchen there is a sitting area where guests are able to relax by the electric opti-myst fireplace. Leading off the kitchen along the hallway there is the bathroom which has a walk in shower and heated towel rail. Upstairs is where the bedroom is located with a very comfortable king size bed and an electric blanket. The TV has all freeview channels and Netflix which has a large range of films, documentaries and TV series and can be used for free so is a perfect way to relax at the end of a day. The suite has keyless entry so guests are able to check themselves in. Across from the suite there is a heated utility room where guests are able to dry wet and muddy clothes/boots and store bikes/equipment. *Please note the driveway can be a bit narrow if you're in a large van*
  • Ali’s place is the perfect get away if your wanting a cosy treat. The location is not too far from all the top hikes around the lakes which Ali kindly suggested. My partner and I will hopefully be re-visiting soon in the near future.

  • Stunning place which felt cosy and welcoming, can’t recommend highly enough. Beautiful location and a great local pub also added to the experience!

    Kieran2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • I really liked this place. It was smaller than I realised from the photos, but cosy and everything I needed was there, including some very inventive space saving gadgets. The host was friendly and informative. The bedroom was really comfortable, the place was very warm and clean and the bathroom/shower were all clean and hot. Ideal for single people I would say. I would use this place again without hesitation. (Also excellent pub with great food about 5-10 minutes walk away).

    Garry2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely place. Better than I expected. Loved the little touches of the fresh flowers and the snowdrop flowers on the windowsill. The little basket with goodies in too. Will definitely stay again and have already recommended to family and friends.

  • Lovely little cottage and a really good host.

    Nicholas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Alister's guest suite was really lovely and cozy. He had thought about everything, and we had everything we needed and more (the heated blanket in the bedroom was incredible and we loved our morning eggs!) Alister even gave us a guide including recommended walks and places to visit, and when we were struggling on where to eat, he gave us great recommendations, and let us know about potential traffic problems nearby beforehand. Would absolutely recommend and we'd definitely love to come back again!

    Megan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What can we say. Everything we have at home and more. We took out hot water bottles but an electric blanket negates the need for them. Quiet village apart from strong winds. Some lovely touches like fresh eggs and artisan bread just added that extra special touch. Highly recommend this as a great place to stay. Just to add we left a night early as we had to rush home. Without any prompting Ali refunded us £25. That's what we call great service. Thanks Ali

The Garden Flat is in a wonderfully peaceful location overlooking Ullswater with panoramic views of timeless yet ever-changing fells, lake and sky. Experience it all from the bay window seat, sofa or even the bed, from the bench outside or on the lawns of Wreay Mansions. Step out of our front door in to an unforgettable landscape. We're on the Ullswater Way walking route and Pooley Bridge is close by. Enjoy a pint brewed at the Brackenrigg Inn. Fine dine or wild swim at Another Place.
This superbly-situated flat has already enjoyed some big changes – the start of a transformation to make it the perfect place to enjoy Ullswater. There is an open plan kitchen/dining area/lounge with new John Lewis oven, hob and dishwasher, new pans by Green Pan and a striking teal sofa by Gallery Hudson. In the bedroom we have a new Ercol Teramo double bed, and you can enjoy luxurious linen from Tielle Love Luxury – we discovered it at the fabulous Pig hotels chain. There's a new Sony Bravia TV with around 80 channels and radio stations available and if you have a Netflix account you can connect up. And you can listen to your own music using our Minirig speaker. The bathroom has underfloor heating, a bath and a shower. There is a lobby so you don't need to bring muddy boots or wet gear in to the flat. And a private parking bay is included. The flat has an impressive sandstone portico and a huge bay window where the views of Ullswater and the fells – including Helvellyn – are unforgettable.
Wreay Mansions is a cluster of apartments converted from a historic 19th century hunting lodge with elevated views of Ullswater – Wainwright's "loveliest of lakes" and the inspiration for Wordsworth's poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. The new Ullswater Way walking route is at the end of the drive. Just down the hill is the Brackenrigg Inn with more great views, food including Sunday lunch, its own microbrewery and – in winter – a big, roaring fire. Bustling Pooley Bridge – with its pubs, shops and tea rooms by the river – is less than two miles away. There is a new temporary footbridge and free car park to use until the new stainless steel crossing opens this spring to replace the 300-year-old one swept away by floods in 2015. From the flat you can easily reach attractions like Aira Force waterfall, owned by the National Trust, and the Ullswater Steamers. You can ride, cycle, fish, sail, paddleboard or even wild swim nearby at Another Place hotel, which has fine dining and great bar food. The Garden Flat is great base from which to explore the rest of the Lake District including Keswick, Windermere, Buttermere and Grasmere – all around a scenic 40 minute drive away. Other great places to eat include 1863 Bistro in Pooley Bridge or the famous Sharrow Bay hotel on the opposite shore. Historic houses Dalemain (5mins by car) and Lowther Castle (20mins) are close too. Penrith, the nearest town, has excellent shopping facilities and a great Tourist Information Centre. As well as a Sainsbury's and Morrisons, there are brilliant regional stores like Booths and Cranstons Cumbrian Foodhall. Before arriving you could also stock up at the renowned Tebay Services near Shap on the M6, a family-owned site with its own farm and butcher. The company also owns the petrol station and store at Rheged arts centre you'll pass as you head from Penrith to Watermillock. Fuel is competitive and there's great local food and drink on sale.
  • This is the perfect getaway! Views are stunning, hosts are so helpful and thoughtful with some lovely touches (choc, wine and beer gifted to us!) Lake ullswater is a 5 min drive as well as the amazing Air Falls waterfall. Windermere is just an hour away and there’s some great pubs/ restaurants with lots of choice. We will be back again in the summer

  • My partner and I spent two nights at the Garden Flat. It was absolutely lovely and the perfect place to wind down and enjoy nature. The view is incredible and the flat is located on a quiet hill. The pub at the bottom of the hill is perfect for some tasty food that will fill you up for not too much money. From the house it's very easy to get to the Ullswater Way that will take you through the hills. Definitely recommend! Best wishes, Lisa and Scott

Check in process was all very simple with a lock box and the view from the apartment, across the yard and to the lake/mountains is stunning no matter the weather!
  • Fantastic place and excellent hosts! Lovely place for a little get away, highly recommend! Immaculate room in a house full of character and an excellent breakfast!

  • A little slice of heaven in the Lake District. We fell in love with the boathouse, every little detail has been considered, a perfect little get away with the most magical views. We lapped up every minute from the log fire, to cups of tea over looking the lake and made a beautiful tea in the kitchen (that quite possibly has every utensil going!). When we did venture to Pooly Bridge the local amenities were great, we pitstopped in Granny Doubekins where the team were so lovely! Would 100% recommend to anyone, we are already looking for a date to come back 💕

Please also be aware that the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. The cooking facilities are a little limited as there is no hob and limited space to prepare food. However, there is a combination microwave (Microwave, Convection Oven and Grill) for heating simple or ready meals. We also live within 10mins of the town centre, for anyone wanting a more substantial meal or to pick up supplies. We have three children, a dog (collie), a cat and some hens - all are friendly! They do not enter the guest accommodation but you may come into contact with them outside.... We are happy to have your children here. We are also happy for you to bring one dog by prior arrangement.
Penrith is a small market town on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Our property is in town and we are within walking distance of several supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, take aways, pubs, an independent cinema, a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall. We are also very close to Beacon Edge, a popular wooded area for dog walks.
  • A clean and private space, really conveniently situated close to town and the main station. communication was great and cleanliness / presentation gets top marks :-) Thanks Sean and Natalie for hosting me!

  • This is a no brainer for us. If we are in that area then this is the first place we look to stay. It quaint, stylish and perfect from both a size and location size and the added touches of fresh bread, milk, cereal selections etc are just great. Highly recommend

  • Another great stay at Blencathra House. Thanks for the warm welcome and showing an interest in what we do. We will definitely be back as soon as we know the date of the next conference! Claire and Lisa x

  • What a cracking find. After a trip to the north lakes spa, we wanted somewhere convenient and suitable for 3 ladies to share! This was perfect. The accommodation is quite compact- but we didn’t need much space. The space is lovely- very nicely decorated and I liked all the cycling and running books/ maps etc. The host was super welcoming and even helped us find a local running route so we could have a bit of an explore. The little touches like supplying bread, yogurt, cereal etc was lovely. We couldn’t make the most of it as we had plans for breakfast out but it was a nice touch. A fab little place and we’ll definitely be back!!

  • Sean’s accommodation was perfect for our stay in Penrith. He met us at the property which was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was just right. We would recommend Sean to friends and family and gladly stay again.

    Sara2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic small apartment that suited me completely. Sean was very quick to respond to queries and friendly face to face. The accommodation was very clean, modern and comfortable. I would recommend it as a place to rest after a challenging day out in the Lakes or the Eden valley.

    Robert2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this little place so much, really close to a bunch of activities and the town has everything you’d need. Warm and cosy with lovely views from the bedroom too.

    Brooke2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Sean’s place is warm, clean and comfortable, definitely a great place to stay in Penrith and we were able to walk from his easily to the station and town centre.

There was another guest but I didn't hear them. Pretty place near the church. Some church bells but to be expected and to be honest it was such a pleasant stay that I can't fault. Wonderful breakfast. Highly recommend and I would use again.

  • Every aspect of our stay at Wendy’s place was superb. The communication was prompt and thorough. She even made a dinner reservation for us at the local pub, and was flexible when we were delayed with a flat tire. The room and the adjacent garden are beautiful, as is the picture-book town of Greystoke. There were tea and cookies in the room and a delicious hot breakfast in the morning. Wendy even did some laundry for us while we were at dinner. This place is a gem.

  • Without doubt the best b&b we have stayed in. Beautiful relaxing room with stunning views over the rear garden. Spotlessly clean and superbly decorated. Top marks for breakfast with locally sourced produce cooked to perfection. Wendy truly is the benchmark for hosting - welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable. Greystoke is a hidden gem with a fantastic pub (Wendy booked us in for evening meal), and is ideally situated for exploring the wonders of the Lakes. We know where we will be staying on our next visit to the Lakes!

  • I had a perfect Christmassy getaway here. If you’re looking for somewhere beautiful and secluded to get away from it all- this is it. The self contained apartment has everything you need for a stay away, home away from home. The bed is huge and so so comfy. The bath is also big and perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day. The space is sparkling clean and situated just upstairs from reception and the pool/spa facilities, so you don’t even need to go outside to get there. But don’t worry about any noise, all I could hear in the evenings and at night was the odd sheep bahhh-ing and, silence! Bliss! Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here, and I’d love to go back already- I didn’t want to leave.

    Jess2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning apartment with everything you need. It’s so warm and cosy! Perfect place to come back to after a day of walking around Ullswater. Toddles Barn clean, contemporary, country style. Converted from an old stable and hayloft this upside down 3 bedroom (1 en suite), barn is bursting with character, charm and beams galore. Sleeping 6 people with 2 spacious king size bedrooms and 1 smaller twin bedded room with 3 ft beds which can be made into a 6 ft double. Situated in the Cumbrian village of Skelton down a quiet lane ,with the Dog and Gun pub nearby serving great food this is a great place to escape to the country.
Toddles Barn is a very special place to spend time whether for a family get together, summer holiday, weekend walking or as part of a trip round the UK. We have kept all the character of the original barn and used furnishings to complement the building and the wooden beams. The barn is light, bright and furnished in a clean contemporary style with all the mod cons you require for your stay.
Toddles Barn is situated in the small working village of Skelton. It is a quiet village handy for the M6 motorway and the northern lakes as well as the nearby market town of Penrith. There is a great pub in the village called the Dog and Gun for food as well as other nearby villages for a meal after a long day out exploring.
  • Excellent place, I would highly recommend staying here

  • This was our second stay at Joanne’s. The barn is lovely and spacious and the rooms are stylish and clean. Joanne welcomed us to the cottage and kept us up to date on anything we needed to know. The kitchen was stocked with basics such as washing up liquid, soap and some store cupboard basics like tea and coffee along with a bottle of milk. Within easy reach of Penrith and other Lake District attractions. We would definitely recommend Joanne’s barn and hope to stay again in the future.

  • Great place to stay!

    Mary2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not do this barn justice!!! Walking in I was taken back by how beautiful the space is. The attention to detail is superb. I can’t recommend this barn enough. I don’t want to give away anymore, purely for the fact to have the joy we did when we stayed. Jo was a great host and an added bonus of their cute cat for a snuggle was fantastic. A million times, thank you x

    Lucy2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous cosy house with great space and had everything we needed! Comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen and lovely bathrooms. The house had thoughtful touches all around to bring in the Christmas spirit and we were very warmly greeted by Joanne upon arrival. Thank you so much for the sweet treats and the Christmas crackers. We have truly enjoyed our stay and we look forward to visiting again.

    Ewen2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautifully converted barn in a quiet village but not far from the M6 or A66 so access to Penrith and the Lakes is very easy. Amazing gastropub a short walk around the corner from the barn is an extra bonus. The two double rooms are really well presented and have heaps of space. The twin room is much smaller but was ideal for our two young children. Family bathroom and ensuite both very smart and clean. The living space upstairs was super cosy and the log burner (with plenty of wood) got temperatures up to truly tropical levels! Big dining table to all gather around for meals and then a lovely seating area by the fire for games and reading (many games and books provided by the owner). Some people may find the continual ducking underneath beams a bit of a drag but it's all part of the character! Lovely stay, lovely hosts, would definitely recommend

Motherby House is an 18th century grade II traditional farmhouse, the house has lost none of its original charm. Hooks embedded in oak beams show where bacon was once cured and log fires add to the warm homely atmosphere. Families are always welcome. Unwind and relax in our oak beamed living room with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee and a selection of home made cakes. There is off road parking and secure storage for cycles. The hamlet of Motherby, is positioned between Penrith and Keswick.

The national park boundary runs at the end of the village. We have pubs near to us that all serve good food and cask ales. The Coast to Coast cycle route runs through Motherby. The next village of Greystoke has village shop & post office a pub which does great food and in summer a open air heated swimming pool and a cycle cafe.

  • Jacquie's place, Motherby House, is a superb place to call "home" during your time in the Lakes District! It is cozy, yet spacious, and spotlessly clean! Our family of five, with three adult children, booked both rooms and were wonderfully comfortable and treated like royalty by Jacquie and her husband. The location is peaceful and quiet with an abundance of nearby adventures and activities. Add to this an absolutely outstanding breakfast, perfect communication, easy check-in and out procedures, and kind and friendly hosts and who could ask for more? We would absolutely stay at Motherby House again!

  • We loved our stay at Lake View. The house has all mod-cons and is well furnished and very well equipped.

    Roz2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Totally thought through. Set up for a superb guest experience. Very modern and easy place to stay. Nice touches like firewood ready to burn. A totally professional offer. I suspect it’s 100% commercial let. No personal touches which is good for me but others might want to live in the shoes of the owners a little. We picked up some ideas for our own let in Yeovil called Aldon.

    Edward2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the house and everything about it. It is a beautiful property - the views are spectacular, the rooms and bathrooms in spectacular condition and everything was so well thought about - the kitchen, the rainy day cupboard, the books, the brochures, etc. The space gave us the perfect way to spend time together as a family and enjoy private time too. We are glad we chose this property to stay in for our Lake District visit.

A cosy, converted byre set in tranquil Cumbrian countryside, this is a perfect base for exploring the Lake District or a peaceful hideaway for two. We live in the adjoining farmhouse, but you have your own parking area and separate front door. Surrounded by wildlife, trees and traditional farmland, it offers perfect peace and relaxation. There is wifi, but it's not great. Dogs welcome! King size bed or two single beds.
We have lived here for 7 years and have recently converted the cow byre attached to our traditional farmhouse into a beautiful holiday let for two people. Please note: the drive down to the Byre is sloped in places and in winter it can be icy. Guests may find some cars struggle to get up the drive in very bad weather. There is a small chance of being snowed in, should this happen we will do all we can to get you out, but you will be perfectly warm and cosy if this happens and the scenery just becomes even more beautiful, so the best thing to do is relax and enjoy it! I will also bring you emergency cake. Unfortunately getting snowed in cannot be booked in advance!
The Byre is in a traditional Cumbrian farming area, half an hours drive midway between Penrith and Keswick. We are near to the C2C cycle way. The closest shop and pub are in Hesket Newmarket, a 10 minute drive away. Greystoke village is 15 minutes away by car. We are about 20 minutes from the M6 off Junction 41.
  • You will not be disappointed with this cosy and elegant space nestled in an idyllic location

    Arlene2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay! Really cosy and stylish. Sparkling clean. Everything we might need was provided. Comfy bed(s). We especially enjoyed bird watching from our bed into the garden with a morning brew! We would definitely visit again.

    Frances2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay and we enjoyed it as much as the first. The perfect little getaway to escape

    Tanya2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely peaceful stay. Lovely watching the birds in the garden. The cake and fresh flowers are a nice touch. We can’t wait to come back!

    Maria2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was the second time we had stayed here - that speaks for itself. It's a wonderful little cottage, with lots of thoughtful attention to detail. Excellent location for the North Lakes. Emma is a perfect host.

    Paul2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely stay at The Byre, great rural location with walks from the doorstep and good tips for things to do nearby. Emma is a great host, everything was very easy and the brownies were amazing!

    Lizzie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Byre is a rare find. When the satnav tells you you've reached your destination, and you're halfway along a long, straight, narrow lane, and there are no houses in sight, you know it is going to be special - providing you can find it!! Don't worry. Emma will have already sent accurate directions. Once you arrive you quickly realise that first impression was right. It's a fabulous place in an equally fab location. Hetty will welcome you first - quite loudly, but if you give her a tickle she'll soon be your best friend (well, she is a golden labrador!) There are plenty of tips for places to visit and local walks, and you may even be treated to one of Emma's lovely cakes (thank you, it was well yummy!) The only negative thing is that for reasons that will become obvious, you would be well-advised to leave your Lamborghini behind..! Seriously though, it is a lovely place to stay - warm, clean, and comfortable, and with a very welcoming vibe.

    Roger2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Byre was a great hideaway for us to base our stay in the Lakes District. We enjoyed staying away from the hustle and noise of the main towns, and enjoyed the short drive to still be able to visit all that we wanted to. The accommodation is lovely - stylish, well appointed with all we could need, and the outlook to the beautiful gardens on the property was so nice (plus some local wildlife!). We very much appreciated having a washer, and the cake on arrival was particularly delicious - thank you!! Would absolutely recommend this terrific place and hospitable hosts.

Cosy studio apartment in central Penrith. Wi-Fi and parking available!! Perfect location to go explore the lake district and beautiful town of Penrith, 10 minute walk from the train station. Lovely cafes, and delicious restaurants, great antique stores to go explore in the town! All walking distance!
The historic building is made up of five separate apartments. My apartment is on the first floor. The studio is a well lit, modern and stylish with a double bed with a double bunk bed on top. I have a washing machine which guests are welcome to use as well as all other necessary appliances. Cyclists are welcome to store their bikes indoors, and motorcycle tourers are able to park their motorcycle safely outside the apartment building. I will try to accommodate early check in and late check out requests, and I will try to accommodate early and late baggage drop/storage where it will help a guest’s situation. GUESTS MAY BE REQUIRED TO CHANGE THEIR OWN BEDDING WHEN THEY RESERVE THE APARTMENT LATE ON THE SAME DAY.
The apartment is situated in the heart of the historic market town of Penrith at the NorthEast gateway to the Lake District. Extremely convenient for the many restaurants of the town. Ample parking, very close to the bus station and a short walk to the train station. The apartment is part of a grade 2 listed historic building with an attractive communal entrance which my co host and I maintain ourselves.

  • We had a lovely time at Jacquies place despite some terrible weather. The cottage was warm and cosy and we had everything we needed to prepare meals. We enjoyed friday evening eating in and playing games around the table. Saturday we eat at a local pub. During the days we enjoyed walking, and were pleased to come back to a warm cottage with room to hang our wet coats. Towels were provided and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable.

ACCESS Please be aware that the Hidden Place is accessed via a unmade gravel track through a field which contains a series of gates which need to be opened and closed each time.
The Hidden Place is ideally situated for exploring the Lakes. The surrounding fells offer walkers plenty of choice, from strenuous climbs to lakeside rambles with the Helvellyn range, High Street and some of the Wainwright's well known walks all within a short distance. The Ullswater Steamers make accessing other points of the lake much easier between Glenridding, Pooley Bridge, Aira Force and Howtown throughout the year. The Lake district centres of Ambleside, Windermere and Keswick are easy excursions from the cottage. There are numerous places to visit and things to do in the area and you are more than welcome to pick up any leaflets from the shop at Ullswater Holiday Park.
  • A lovely tranquil cottage with no surrounding buildings, so very quiet and peaceful. Everything was clean. Check in was easy and everything went smoothly

    Anthony2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy little barn in the middle of nowhere down a gravel track across several fields. Kitchen is a good size and well equipped for cooking - although we missed having a wooden spoon! Shower lovely and hot and the barn was super warm and welcoming when we arrived. Check in is by lock box, no problem at all. Internet and phone signal is patchy but that’s what we went for - a great little hideaway with views of Ullswater. Thanks Susan!

    Lindsay2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location with amazing views; comfortable, quiet, a real hidden gem! Would recommend if you want to forget the world a while 😊

    Sam2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • we had such a lovely time, the space is amazing and the pictures don’t do it justice! the track up to the cottage goes through a few fields full of sheep, but they’ll move out of your way with no problem. the views from the property are amazing, and we’ll definitely miss sitting out on the back porch in the morning with a cup of tea! the location is second to none, and the absence of wifi was a godsend - bring books and board games and you’ll enjoy something not so routed in technology. we had food at a local pub up the road in Dacre called The Horse & Farrier - would recommend for a bit of lunch! we also visited a local waterfall at Aira Force which is about 15 minutes drive down the road. my partner and i are already planning to return in future for a break from the city, and would recommend for anyone looking to do the same. we have also recommended the place to friends and family!

    Darren2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • The Hidden Place lives up to its name, secluded, hidden and gloriously quiet. However, one is still fast by car to all sorts of beautiful places, restaurants and shopping. The view from the terrace over the Ullswater lake and the picturesque landscape around it is breathtaking. The house is cozy and nicely decorated and everything was very clean. The best we liked the already mentioned view, the sheep pasture directly adjacent to the terrace, the excursion to the nearby Dalemain House with wonderful gardens and the great location! We hope to be back someday.

    Juliane & Felix2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our mini moon holiday at this lovely cottage. It’s much bigger than looks, and super comfy. The cottage was spotlessly clean & welcome tray of bread, shortbread, teas & coffees, milk & bottle of wine were very much appreciated! We enjoyed uninterrupted views over Ullswater, and not a road or person in sight. Not sure who felt there was not enough natural light in a previous review! Only note is that the flies can be troublesome, so we did not leave doors & windows open. Wouldn’t hesitate to return, thanks.

    Philippa2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Super clean with great facilities. If you do stay here we'd definitely recommend checking out the Another Place restaurant which is 18 minutes walk away and does some great food on the side of the lake.

    Herbie2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Hidden Place is really somewhere special. The location is beautiful, surrounded by views and only the cows and sheep as neighbours! Everything was clean and tidy and check in was very simple. It’s definitely bigger and more spacious than it seems in the Photos’s. The bed was very comfy and we had everything we needed. It was fantastic to arrive to bread, butter, wine and the essentials. Nice touch!! Highly recommend if you want a quiet “getting away from it all” holiday in the Lakes.

Lotte’s room is a large bright room, our bed was 2 twin beds together making it a super king size bed. The en-suite shower room was and cosy. Everything is sparkling clean! We had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Kath and her family could not have been more welcoming and kind. We are already booked in April as this is a great location for anyone heading north to south or visa versa - or someone wishing to base themselves to explore Penrith and The Lake District.

Cozy cottage in a rural location dating back to 1865. Formally the old blacksmiths shop for the Greystoke Castle Estate. Rooms have vaulted ceilings and exposed beams.
The cottage is spacious with a well equipped kitchen and wet room, large fluffy towels are provided. The cottage has very little noise or light pollution in the evenings.
We are approximately 3 miles from the nearest town of Penrith where there are plenty of supermarkets which are open until 10pm but only until 4pm on Sundays. There are lots of pubs around the nearest is within walking distance, and serves food and is about a mile away but the road is unlit. The nearest lake is Ullswater which is about 5 miles away and we are 15 miles from Keswick.
  • Stunning cottage with all the amenities you could wish for. Great hosts in a charming location with views of the northern fells. Fantastic bathroom with huge bath and separate walk in shower with superb water pressure. Fantastic all round. Highly recommended.

Room 1 comes with TV, dining table and settee as well as a self contained kitchen. It is above a Tea Room in the Church Yard. very quiet area of Penrith except for the church bells occasionally. Some meals can be provided at extra cost. Room 2 is smaller with a double bed, tv, kettle, double wardrobe and chest of drawers
Center location, though quite, with access to local shops and amenities.
The room is situated in St Andrews Church Yard and park area, in the heart of Penrith, with local amenities very accessible. The church clock is right outside the window but the chimes are turned off at night time, however, the church bells are rung occasionally each week.
  • Lovely place and a very good value for money!

  • A second stay with John, this time booking both rooms for my son, myself and pooches. This time I was able to carve out time to enjoy John's full English breakfast that set me up for the day. Pleased to recommend John's place and especially his hospitality to all.

  • We have just had a very enjoyable and relaxing three nights stay at the Eden Gallery. The accommodation was just what we required and John was most welcoming and helpful. We really appreciated the included breakfast which made our stay even better value. We would be more than happy too stay there again when we are next in Penrith.
