Bought the place a few months ago and I felt it’s only fair to give as good as Much as I take. It’s not a big room, the furniture isn’t ideal, but if anyone’s in need it’s here.
Single bed with bedside table, cloth wardrobe and cloth drawers, 24inch tv with chromecast and mirror. You have use of the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms and kitchen. Cupboards will be provided for you and space in the fridge if needed. Complimentary WiFi for anyone willing to put up with my awful puns. (Our WiFi names are “the LAN before time” and “tell my WIFI love her” 😂).
Capella resort is only a short walk away. As well as the hunted hog if it’s a pub you’re looking for. And for as little as €1.50 tasty bites takeaway will deliver to the door. Other amenities include a bus stop and a post office, even a flower shop
  • Éric is a great and friendly host, the room is really nice. Castlemartyr is a lovely village to stay. I recommend it 100% !

    Hortense2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Eric is great. Both my arrival and departure times were off schedule and he was so cool with it. Everything was as presented. Simple, clean,...I was barely there so I can't say much beyond that.

    Aurora2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Truly terrific host. Friendly, helpful and easy going. Felt like home away from home!

    Roxanne2019-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • All of the inhabitants (human residents +Finn, the dog) are very amicable, interesting and welcoming. The heater was not working much of the time, but Eric was good to provide me with extra bedding and a room heater. I had full use of the kitchen and washer, as well as the living room, which along with their personalities, made me feel at home. Eric is good with explaining things, advising or getting his feet wet when I had an inquiry. The other residents are respectful, kind and willing to include in conversion and television programs' time, or let me do my own thing. Re. the area: Castlemartyr is a lovely village to stay in and explore from the small church to the resort's grounds to the local establishments (art shop, florist, pharmacy, eclectic-organic green grocer, the Hunted Hog restaurant and pub, and a few other places amid the idyllic route from Cork city). With the Jameson distillery tours only miles away in Midleton (a big town that has it all), to the small but lovely villages all around, Castlemartyr is a perfect location to stay for a short while and take day trips around.

    Idzi2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Eric was a very kind host and provided us with whatever we needed for our stay. The town is not that big but you can have some walks and enjoy the local bar. All in all I had a great stay at Eric’s place!

    Bart2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay when visiting Castlemartyr. Perfectly located and a great host which made life really easy for me to attend a wedding and have a great stay.

  • We had a fab stay at the cottage and Siobhan couldn’t have been more helpful. She was fab, responses were amazingly speedy and when we had a bit of an issue with the hot water she immediately sorted an alternative solution. Thank you Siobhan!

  • Lovely little cottage in a fantastic location in Ballycotton.

    Helen2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. The location itself would make it 5-stars alone, but on top of that, the home itself is full of charm. Two fantastic pubs less than a minute away, and the locals welcome you with open arms. If I’m in Ballycotton, I know where I’m staying!

    Brett2019-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous cost cottage in a stunning location! Central to the village of Ballycotton! Siobhan’s hospitality was excellent, very accommodating! Will definitely be back!

  • Lovely little cottage with the best location!!

    Theresa2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • The Cow Strand Cottage was GREAT! So close to the water, clean cozy cottage. We had 3 nights here which was an ideal location for touring Midleton, Cork, Cobh, Blarney and Kinsale - Old Head. I would highly recommend it. Local pub and restaurant are just a minutes walk. The local Cliff Walk was also great. The people (locals) we met in this area were so friendly and helpful. I'd definitely return to this spot!

    Ballycotton, County Cork, Ireland

This modern, newly renovated cottage for four is set in a rural location, opposite the world famous Ballymaloe Cookery School and within walking distance of Shanagarry Village, Garryvoe Beach and 3 miles from the beautiful fishing village of Ballycotton. We are a 20 minute drive from Midleton town and 10 minutes off the N25 Cork-Waterford road. Brilliant for an individual, a family or couples. The cottage boasts a bright living area with high ceilings and a South/West facing private patio.
Shanagarry Cottage is located on the grounds of the family home at the rear of the property. There is a shared entrance with the family, which has electric entrance gates making the property very secure and also a smaller gate for pedestrian access. Situated in a rural location it offers absolute peace and quiet. The house has a light-filled open kitchen/living/dining area with wooden floors and views of the countryside with an eastern/western facing aspect and the private enclosed patio to the rear. An electric stove (who really wants to be cleaning up ashes whilst on holiday?) along with central heating, this cottage is warm and cosy. At the front of the cottage, facing east, is the parking area for guests, while a sheltered patio at the rear catches the daytime and afternoon sun. The entrance hall is a spacious area, to hold lots of coats and boots that you will have on your country retreat. Two double bedrooms are simple but comfortable accommodation for four. You will have a restful sleep on our very comfortable mattresses with down duvets and pillows for extra luxury. We also have a foldable mattress for the second bedroom, should kids prefer not to share the double bed. A travel cot/high chair can be provided on request. We do not have a bath, but instead a lovely spacious walk-in power shower. The house has a selection of children's games and toys. Well equipped kitchen with oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave and most importantly a Nespresso coffee machine. A washing machine and dryer are in a seperate location off the bathroom. There is a TV and Wifi connection.
Ballymaloe Cookery School The Ballymaloe cookery school is directly opposite the cottage. It has a food and gift shop with wonderful supplies from the school and gardens. It offers afternoon cookery demonstrations for anyone interested in learning some valuable techniques from a variety of famous chefs. You can also visit the Cookery School gardens. It also operates a restaurant on Saturdays at lunchtime serving pizza. During the Summer months it runs an outdoor cafe, serving coffee, cake and lunch. Shanagarry Shanagarry village is a mere 7 minute walk from the cottage – where there is the Kilkenny Design Centre (craft centre/gift shop and café), Catholic Church, a pub and village shop. You can visit the Stephen Pearce Emporium if you are looking for a large selection of pottery and a lovely tea room. Beyond this are some lovely beaches to include Garryvoe and Shanagarry beaches which are just another 10 minutes walk further on or a 5 minute journey by car. Ballymaloe Ballymaloe House is one of the best-known restaurants in (URL HIDDEN) serves excellent food in charming surroundings and gives a really warm welcome. Booking recommended. If you book on a Saturday night then after dinner you can enjoy live Irish music in the sitting room. It also has a teashop on site, a fabulous cook shop and a big converted barn that holds a range of different music events. Ballycotton Ballycotton is a small fishing village about 5 minutes from the house and with a small shop and a couple of bars/restaurants. You can drive down to the harbour to watch the fishermen or drive up through the village to the cliffs. You an also fish off the harbour here. There is a good cliff walk here to Ballyandreen with a nice quite cove half way along, perfect for picnicking. Cork There is much to do and see in Cork. Don’t be put off by it being Ireland’s second largest city – it is built on a very human scale and has a very relaxed feel. See the What’s on in Cork guide for listings – lots of restaurants, pubs, live music, and the arts. Good shopping in city centre and a visit to the English Market is highly recommended. Blackwater Valley North of Youghal, very beautiful, you can take a drive up the river to Lismore where the castle opens its gardens to the public, or take boat trips on the river. Knockmealdown Mountains Visible north from the house on a clear day, great for wild walking, you can visit the Mont Mellory Monastery high in the mountains. Knockadoon Head Lovely cliff walking and some bird watching around Knockadoon Head – about 15 minutes further on from Shanagarry. Kinsale Further afield on the other side of Cork, very busy with many visitors, but a lovely town with many small backstreets. Gougane Burrra For a day trip, about 42km west of Cork on the Macroom-Bantry road is this lovely area – good for walking and bird-watching. There is a walk described in West Cork walks in the house. Ardmore East of Youghal, with a fabulous sandy bay and cliff walks, was home to Irish writer, Molly Keane.

We have just reopened this room since the birth of our second child, our priority’s obviously have moved from a tidy home to a happy one, your room will always be spotless, but the house will be homely and sometimes a mess. Any questions please ask! Chemical free/ eco friendly house. Your room has a comfortable extra deep millennium deluxe mattress with a king size duvet so perfect for sharing. Fresh bed clothes, bath towels and a TV with chrome cast for your convenience.
Castlemartyr village has the famous Pat Shortts Pub,which recently became the hunted hog, but boasts it's the best after wedding venue in cork. Lovely food and drink to be found inside. Then there's the beautiful hotel/resort which do a lovely breakfast if you feel like treating yourself, and the green woods for long walks. Your room in our house is after being upgraded with a luxurious extra deep Millenium deluxe double bed and soft cotton bed clothing, very well insulated with wooden furniture. We are as chemical free/ eco friendly as possible so be sure that you won't be surrounded by nasty chemicals in your room, using our cutlery, kitchen, or soaps and shampoo in the bathrooms. Our son is 3 and our daughter is 9 months old. We also have a lovable house dog named Diesel who enjoys a lot new visitors. As any other home with kids, it can be messy at times, but we make sure that the sharing areas are tidy and clean. We are very keen to Rudolph Steiner's ideas (Waldorf education) therefore you might find our home a bit less noisy than any other home with kids since there's no use of battery toys, TV and radio while our kids are awake. As you might know, Ireland's best reputation is its green sceneries thanks to the rain :-D so we use the halfway upstairs to dry out clothes, hoping that doesn't bother you, we welcome you in our home.
Is a small and quiet neighborhood, just in front of the woods and we're the closest housing estate to castlemartyr hotel. A relaxed walk to the entire village, including shops, bus stop, pub, cafe, and the church? if you fancy,

  • Gillian & Liam are the ultimate hosts and you'll never know how good it gets until you visit. This place alone is worth the visit. Friendly relaxed atmosphere, warm and cosy, beautifully designed and decorated house with exquisite beds and linens. We stayed 2 nights and we treated like royalty so skip the spa weekend and head for Ballycotton ;)

  • Gill really is a superhost. Warm, chatty, open and kind. We had a great stay in ballycotton and felt like family for the weekend. Would highly recommend

  • We had an amazing stay at Gill’s place in Ballycotton. We were married in Ballycotton and returned to celebrate our anniversary. Staying at Gill’s home made our weekend extra special. It is a wonderful place to stay. The room itself is comfortable and spotless but it is the welcome and hospitality of Gill and her family that make this place so special. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel right at home and Gill goes above and beyond to make your stay a memorable one. Will definitely be returning.

    Denise2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • After 24 hours of travel, Gill literally met me at the bus and took me to her lovely home, revived me with tea, and gave me a luxurious and welcoming weekend. Beautiful village, great sea views, lovely family, and a short walk to Pier 26, exceptional food and wine.

    Collins2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great no a fantastic place to stay. Gill and her husband Liam are excellent hosts and really made us feel at home. It's the extra touches that Gill gives you that makes this place extra special. I also loved Ballycotton. It's a quaint little place by the sea. The area has a lot to offer. You will not regret your stay here.

A comfortable 1 bedroomed cottage on the grounds of Ballymaloe House & 2 miles from Ballymaloe Cookery School. Located 30 mins from Cork in a quiet, rural area but with the bonus of a café, restaurant and craft shop on your door step. There are also lovely walks through the gardens and woods.
This cottage comfortable accommodates 2 guests however it can open into a adjoining 1 bed cottage in which case there would be room for 4. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need. There is central heating on all the time so it is very warm, there is also a wood burning stove should you need it.
We are 15 mins from Midleton and 3 miles from the coast. So there's plenty to see and do from the Midleton Farmers Market to Cliff walks. There is also fantastic gardens to walk around at the Ballymaloe Cookery School.
  • We had such a brilliant stay in one of the cottages at ballymaloe We are returning guests and it never fails to deliver. The cottages are lovely and comfortable with a fire/stovecfor the cold nights. The beds were very comfortable. tbe cottages offer a great amount of independence which the main house offers less of. We enjoyed brekafast and dinner on both evenings/mornings and theres plenty to do around Shanagarry. We had such a great stay, we will definitely be back.

  • Highly recommend. Perfect for two people. The place is very cosy and warm and the ground/amenities in the surrounding area are lovely.

  • My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The interior is nice and cosy, with a fully equipped kitchen with top-quality equipment. We loved having breakfast at the cafe just across the yard, where every day we had delicious scones and cakes. Rory gave us suggestions for places to visit and even invited us to a live music evening at the local pub, which we greatly enjoyed. Overall a very relaxing stay, in a lovely setting, just what we were looking for!

  • We enjoyed our stay in Ducking cottage. The farm and cliff walks were lovely. Very comfortable accommodation and the shop and hotel was decorated for Christmas.

    Shauna2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Duckling Cottage was absolutely amazing and it was beyond our expectations. We imagined a wonderful place from the listing information but arriving and seeing it in person took it to a whole new level. The cottage was adorable, extremely clean, and it had all the amenities we needed to make our Christmas dinner! Absolutely perfect! Not only did we have all the amenities but lovely Hazel had some provisions for us upon arrival. She also reached out to us before hand and asked if we needed anything during our stay since everything would be closed during Christmas (our entire stay basically). So thankful she did because we wouldn’t have thought about it and been very hungry over the holidays. Hazel and her husband was friendly and also very welcoming as they invited us over to their home for some Christmas Eve cheer. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay during our Christmas. You will not go wrong by choosing this beautiful place to stay.

    Irene2019-12-26T00:00:00Z

Comfortable bed less than one minute drive to Garryvoe Beach and Hotel. 5 minute drive to Ballymaloe and Castlemartyr resort. About us: We have been hosting on Air BnB since September 2018 and it has been a really enjoyable experience. People from all over Ireland and the world have come to stay with us. People stay here for all sorts of things: Holidays, attending weddings nearby, work, visiting relatives.
  • We stayed here as we were attending a wedding over the Christmas holiday in the Garryvoe Hotel. The house in conveniently located on the main road heading into Garryvoe from Ladysbridge and is less than a 10 minute walk. The hosts Sadhbh and Daniel were very friendly and even offered to give us a lift to the hotel on arrival. We decided to drive down and got a taxi €5 from reception and walked down for the car the following morning. It’s a beautiful house, spotlessly clean. Our room was private, very comfortable with a large on-suite. We would definitely stay here again!

  • I stayed with Sadhbh whilst attending a friends wedding in Garryvoe and thoroughly enjoyed my experience from start to finish. I was met with warm hospitality from the moment I arrived. Pauline and Dan couldn't do enough to help me and were a wealth of information on places of interest in the locality. The house itself is beautiful, ideally located and spotlessly clean. I definitely intend to come back for another visit.

Sentio is a private, light-filled, detached ground level retreat with a driveway, free parking space and access to garden and garden pond. We are in a small and friendly coastal village - one of the most picturesque and sought after residential and holiday locations in East Cork. We have fabulous scenery within easy walking distance - and even more within a short drive. Choose from beaches, golf, great food, an internationally renowned cookery school, walks and welcoming pubs!
This is a newly converted open plan private space. There is a generous and bright living area and kitchen with a bedroom that has a superking bed with down and feather bedding. There is a generous shower to wash off the sand after your beach walks or bird watching trips. The living area has a comfy sofa with heaps of warm natural light flooding in from the floor to ceiling South facing window. There's wifi, and a 42inch flatscreen if you fancy just staying in to feed your Netflix addiction or maybe review your amazing photos from your day out! The kitchen is fully equipped - but if we've missed something and you need anything extra we are right next door so you can just pop over and ask! There is a separate utility room for use by the owners with a washing machine and dryer. We are happy to let you use both for a small fee.
The beach, coffee shops and a well stocked local shop are all in easy walking distance and the bus to Cork city delivers you right to the gated entrance! Nearby attractions include the world famous Ballymaloe House and Cookery School, Castlemartyr 5 star resort and spa, Ballycotton with its pubs and famously scenic cliff walk, numerous beaches with protected wildlife sanctuaries, Midleton with its gastronomic delights, Jameson Distillery, Fota Wildlife Park and of course Cork city is within 40 minutes by car or taxi if you fancy some shopping or just the contrast of the city buzz.
  • I had a wonderful stay in Sentio. The accommodation is clean and modern (in a wonderful location) with great facilities - the Nespresso machine was a lovely touch! Communication with Tomás and Sally was quick and easy and they were great hosts - I felt my privacy was respected, yet they were always on hand if needed be. I unfortunately had to cut my stay short but will be sure to stay here if and when I get back to East Cork!

  • We enjoyed a fabulous stay in Olive and Billy's studio apartment. It is in such a beautiful location with views over the fields to the sea and a short (2 minute) walk down to a lovely remote beach. The property has everything you need for a comfortable stay with lots of nice items for breakfast. It was really clear with everything we needed. Many thanks Olive and Billy.

    Tim2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Olive's place is a lovely little apartment with sitting room, bathroom, bedroom and walk in closet. Everything is new and tidy. It was nice to have a little more room than most of the other places we stayed on our trip. The outside space has numerous sitting options with views of the Irish Sea and Ballycotton Island.

    Kevin2019-08-03T00:00:00Z

  • This is our second summer spending days at this gorgeous spot. It is cozy but has everything you need and is on the doorstep to a beautiful beach just minutes from the door. The area is great in general with lots to do and see. The accommodation has a great comfortable bed, lovely view and two great cozy armchairs in the sitting room. We brought our two small children and we all fit nicely here for a few days with the children in travel cots. Olive and Billy are lovely to deal with and nothing is a problem. The photographs don't do the property justice, lovely stay had by all!

    Rosemary2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • We travelled down by car for Ironman Cork and although a little nervous about finding the apartment, Olive’s directions proved spot on. We were welcomed by Olive and Billy with a very sincere warm welcome and introduction to the apartment. Olive had provided cereals, bread, milk, juice, ham, cheese, butter, tea, coffee and fruit etc which allowed us to settle in after a long journey without having to run to the shop! As I was taking part in the Ironman event I was particularly pleased to know the bike route passed close by, and Olive and Billy had even provided me with a secure location to store my bike. Indeed the apartment was just as expected and even better than expected was the view and closeness to the beach - first class and icing on the cake! Olive and Billy came up tops having promptly posted my wallet back to me after leaving it behind in the apartment. We could not recommend Olive and Billy highly enough and would love to come back again 😀

  • I stayed in the Ewe Cottage for a few nights while visiting a friend at the Cookery School and it was a perfect way to experience Ballymaloe! The cottage was clean and quiet and a great place to relax. The staff at the Ballymaloe House were so friendly and the grounds were beautiful. Highly recommend!

  • We had a great night at the Glamping Pod at the home of Tim and his partner. I recommend, especially if you are a family with children under the age of 10, as the sofa bed was a bit small for teenagers. Their welcome was perfect and very warm!

    Marylou2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Tim is the most lovely and helpful host. Offering us lifts to Ballycotton as he said ‘as part of the service’. He also left cereal, eggs and milk in the fridge for us. Lovely and very appreciated touches.

  • The glamping pod is an experience you don't want to miss out on. It's so different from your average hotel room or other airbnb, that it adds an extra element of excitement to your trip. Tim was extremely kind and helpful when my traveling companion and I arrived, showing us everything the pod had to offer. And even though the pod is located right next to his property, Tim respected our privacy once he showed us everything we needed to see. The pod may feel small, but that's part of its charm! There's just enough space to move around and get what you need done, but there's plenty of space to relax and get comfortable. Staying in the pod, you definitely get to experience Irish country life for yourself. Just keep in mind that if you arrive later in the day (like we did), your food options might be limited for the night. TIm recommended the nearby town of Ballycotton for dinner, which we visited once we finished checking in, but due to the time (it was around 8 PM) and the time of year (we arrived on St. Stephen's Day/Boxing Day), all the restaurants were already closed for the day and the pub's kitchen was closed for the season. Overall, our night in the pod was exactly what we needed to wake up recharged and refreshed to continue on our travels the next morning. Plus, there was a great cafe nearby that we were able to stop at in the morning for some delicious breakfast!

  • Very cute. We can only recommend it

    Silvia2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Everything you would need in a compact but not cluttered pod. Spotlessly clean. Tim was very friendly and helpful. Beach 10 min walk and shops nearby. Would highly recommend staying here and would love to come back.

  • A unique place hosted by a wonderful human beeing. If its available just book it, you won't regret it!

    Tom2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • The pod, located in the owner's garden, is small but nice and well equipped, ideal for two people but also suitable for four well-knit people. Location very quiet, without sea view (as in photo). Also equipped with a small private outdoor space for summer breakfasts / lunches. Very friendly owner.

  • We stayed 2 adults, 2 nights in a downstairs double bedroom. There are other rooms upstairs, some kingsize available. Huge main bathroom with amazing shower + roll-top bath, and additional separate toilet. The house is very large, and our bedroom was at the back, so no road noise. Castlemartyr is a small town, but has a main road running through it. The house is within walking distance of Castlemartyr estate - where we were attending a wedding. Also only 30mins to Cork airport. There’s ample off + on road parking. Maurice + Finola are great hosts - the best we’ve stayed with. I really appreciated the lengths they went to on our stay, including helping our friend, beach recommendations + an amazing breakfast with great range in their beautiful kitchen. Large garden would be great in the summer. Relaxing living room + comfortable bedroom, with helpful additions + touches such as coat-hangers + iron use - hosts that clearly know their audience!

Comfortable and traditional 150 year old country cottage with Irish stone front.
The house itself is over 150 years old but was purchased 9 years ago and renovated by myself with most items of furniture hand crafted to maintain that authentic country cottage feel. The stone seen at the front of the cottage comes from a family quarry in Valentia Island, Co. Kerry. Most other materials used in renovation the cottage were reclaimed and sourced locally. The cottage is on a old farm with traditional outhouses and on 1.5 acres with apple and chestnut trees. There is a large chestnut tree with potbelly stove, swing and seating ideal for summertime relaxation and gatherings.
Beach walks , rivers , woods for walking, hiking trails etc
  • Michaels comfy cottage is such a lovely location that we'll definitely be back to. As all the handwritten notes attest to in the visitor book, it is truly a home away from home that we didn't want to leave. The only reason we wouldn't tell others about this air b&b is because we want it to be our well kept secret... ...but we weren't able to stop raving about it to all our family and friends!

    Stephen2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my boyfriend stayed here as we were going to a wedding in Castlemartyr. The place looked lovely in the photos but due to the amazing price, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. We had the most wonderful time here though, Michael was just amazing and so welcoming. The house was gorgeous and we had a roaring fire waiting for us when we arrived. Looking forward to coming back again. Thanks so much Michael!

  • Great country cottage with everything you could need. Michael was an absolute wonderful host with lots of kind & thoughtful touches. We loved our stay!

    Lynda2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was a great location to stay in southern Ireland. The real wood stove was WONDERFUL and the bedroom was decorated sooo lovely. The fresh eggs were a great touch and very much appreciated as well as the text letting us know when mass was at a few of the local churches after we had expressed interest in going. Youghal is a lovely town and your community pride and love of the area really shown through. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful country stay, my only suggestion for someone staying here is to bring a pair of warm fuzzy socks to wear in the mornings.

    Melanie2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Michael’s home is absolutely beautiful and cozy. Everything from the fire going in the fires place on arrival to fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning was pure hospitality. My husband and I loved our stay!

My place is good for couples, famlies, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
The Guest Suite is situated in our house. It is suitable for 4 persons only. It has its own secure private entrance. There are no cooking facilities of any sort provided, however we do provide an electric kettle (tea, coffee, milk and sugar) and breakfast cereals. We only accept bookings with 7 days notice. Our home is situated on a ¾ acre site in a rural area, which is convenient to larger towns and the City of Cork. (15 kms to the town of Midleton, 20 kms to Youghal and 35 kms to Cork City). The property has well over 30 trees and is surrounded by hedging with a tranquil garden containing multiple varieties of plants and flowers. The matriarch of the family is a gardener. The guest suite we are offering consists of a family room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. The guest suite is attached to our home and has a private entrance. The family room has a two seater couch and a tub chair (with one additional comfortable chair in each bedroom), a fridge, a large TV (with Freeview channels) and mugs for tea and coffee and bowls for the breakfast cereals we provide. We also provide the milk and sugar. SEE PHOTOS Bedroom 1 has a large, comfortable double bed. SEE PHOTOS Bedroom 2 has two single beds. SEE PHOTOS The bathroom has a large walk-in shower and is bright and airy. SEE PHOTOS. Parking is to the front of the flat unit directly outside of the flat unit, so it is safe and secure.
The village of Shanagarry has a population of about 550 people and is conveniently located near Cork City and between the towns of Midleton and Youghal. We are located just beside the junction of the R631 and R629 about 1.5 to 2 kms form Ballymaloe House and 0.5 km or less from Ballymaloe Cookery School. Our house is located on the Old Road in Shanagarry village within 2 minutes’ walk of our local shop and petrol station. The village also has a pub (which does bar food for part of the year and is a two minute walk, a church (3 minute walk), post office (15 minutes walk), Stephan Pearce’s Pottery (10 minute walk), Darina Allen’s Ballymaloe Cookery School (15 minute walk), the Kilkenny Design Outlet Centre, Café and Art Gallery (3 minute walk). Besides the Kilkenny Design Centre and church lies the remains of Shanagarry Castle, which was land grant deeded to William Penn’s father (who was a sea captain) by Elizabeth I in the 1600s. William’s father found the castle too draughty to live in and so he built the nearby Shanagarry House. William spent a short time in the area before heading off to establish himself as the founder of the great state of Pennsylvania in the new American colonies. Ballymaloe Cookery School and Gardens run by Darina Allen is located on the North Road in the village. Ballymaloe House still lorded over by Myrtle Allen with the able assistance of her children and is about 2 kms from our house. Regular concerts and shows take place at their GRAINSTORE venue featuring some of the bigger names in the Irish and international show business world. There are four beaches in close proximity to our home. The closest, Ballinamona, is about 1 km from our front door. Then there is Ardnahinch, Garryvoe and Ballingwilling; a total of at least 5 kms of beach. Some of the activities there include swimming surfing, para-surfing and kite surfing, though you will have to provide your own equipment for them. The Garryvoe Hotel, which is about 2 kms from our home, is a famous spot for weddings in this part of Cork. It is located in front of Garryvoe Beach and has excellent bar food and a fabulous restaurant (Sampfire). There is also an excellent leisure centre and pool complex, where children are welcome to swim from 10 to 12 and 2 to 6 in the day. You are welcome to phone them for details. If you are looking for a nice walk, you can go to the lovely fishing village of Ballycotton and drive all the way through it to the end where you come to a car park beside the cliff walk along the sea. It’s 4 kms out and 4 kms back, along with some of the most beautiful seascapes along the way. If that’s not your thing, maybe you might like to try your hand fishing off the pier in Ballycotton Harbour, or just watching the fishing boats come and go. Or you could always take to boat out to Ballycotton Lighthouse to have a look around there (summer months only) Maybe some refreshments at the Bayview Hotel at the bay windows or the outside terrace looking down at the activities in the harbour below might appeal. The hotel opens from early spring around Easter until early autumn. If you start to get hungry, they have a first class restaurant there, too. Other places for eating include Skinny’s restaurant for fast food. The fish plate is made with very fresh local catch and the burgers are devine. The drinks are soft ones, and it is a great spot for the kids. Not too far away is the Schooner Bar for excellent first class food and refreshments. The owners are related to local fishing folk, so the fish is superbly fresh. Need I say more?? Across from there is the Blackbird Bar, which also has good food and refreshments, as well as music on Saturday nights and on Sundays from 6 in the evening until about 10. Another spot is the Inn By the Sea near the harbour, and Egan’s bar near the Schooner and Blackbird. Cloyne village is 7 kms from Shanagarry village on the way to Midleton. It is also a see city of the Anglican (Church of Ireland) Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross. The Church of Ireland edifice in Cloyne is St Coleman's Cathedral and it is a cathedral church. Across the road from the cathederal is a lovely round-tower. Midleton, 16 kms from Shanagarry, is the home of the Jameson Distillery and the distillery tour is well worth doing. Did you know there is a connect ion with the famous Marconi brothers and Jameson?? Their mother was a Jameson. On Saturdays, Midleton hosts an excellent food market with locally produced fruits, vegetable and locally made produce. You should try the pizzas made by the Volcano Pizza stall. You won’t be disappointed. Midleton also has a plethora of other shops, supermarkets, etc. and free on street parking, so no hassle of parking charges like so many other towns in Ireland. So take your time and chill out a while!!! Enjoy!!! In the other direction lies the town of Youghal which is about 21 kms. Youghal was a most fascinating walled town during the 1500s and has a lot of interesting history attached. Much of the wall is still intact. One of its biggest claims to fame is that Sir Walter Raleigh (of Tobacco fame) was land grant deeded tens of thousand of acres by Quenn Elizabeth I and he lived in the Town of Youghal for many years after returning from the new world in a house that is beside St. Mary’s Collegiate Church. St.Marys has a fabulous history and is nwell worth a visit. At the back of the church you can see the town wall and not too far away are the homes for the old sailors. I t is amazing to see to small height of the entry doors to these houses. People were definitely smaller then. If you are looking for something more cosmopolitan for the day , you can always head to Cork City, It is a mere 37 kms from the village . Here you can immerse yourself in the urban city life for the day. If you don’t like the hassle of the traffic and parking that goes with the city, then you can you cantake a regularly schedule bus or train into the city centre from Midleton. Or a bus from Castlemartyr (10 kms.). If you are looking for a game of golf, then Castlemartyr Resort is a short hop, skip and a jump from the house (10 kms) . There is also a course in Water Rock near Midleton and at Fota Island Resort (40 mins drive). Fota Wild Life Park is only 40 minutes by car and is a great place for the family. A little further and you will wind up in Cobh with its historical connections to the Titanic and the Luisitania. If you are interested there is also a boat to Spike Island , another historical spot. Any thing else you would like to know???

  • Tom & Attracta’s welcome was one of the warmest I've ever encountered during my travels. After a long drive from home, arriving there was the best thing that could happen. We felt at home! It was like arriving at your favorite aunt and uncle's place after a long while. My little one found a little friend to play with too and that was a huge plus! My whole family was super happy of the accommodation and grateful for Tom's tips about the area. The listing was super tidy and clean and the garden around was a fantastic frame. It was just perfect! I hope we'll be able to go back soon!
