Places to stay in Lanark
Welcome to the Mississippi River! I am still renting. If you are looking for a break to unwind look no further. Deep cleaned inbetween renters. It is quiet, peaceful and tranquil. My space is a traditional cottage that has been fully renovated with modern amenities while still keeping much of its charm. It is truly a quiet escape from the city. There is one queen size bed, one double bed and one double size pullout. Located 15 minutes to beautiful and historic Perth and a 10 minutes to Lanark.
The cottage is located in a rural area down a private road. Definitely meets social distancing requirements.
  • This is a very cute cottage by the river. Everything was perfect except that I had very little cell phone reception , so it was difficult to do any work. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed.

  • We spent a lovely winter weekend at this cabin curled up in front of the wood stove. The place is super cozy and right on the river. Two thumbs up! We would stay here again.

  • Log Cottage on Mississippi River was perfect for our relaxing weekend in February. The place has an authentic log cabin atmosphere. Wood stove was easy to operate and the wood was provided. The roads to the cottage were clean and well maintained. The place is about 15 min drive from some awesome restaurants in a historic Perth. Some phones might not have a full signal by the river, but you'll get the service up the driveway. Sarah was responsive and considerate. She preheated the cabin for us and gave us some great local tips. All in all - exactly the stay we were looking for.

  • Our family of five (kids 12-18yrs) thoroughly enjoyed unplugging on the shores of the Mississippi River. It was flowing quickly and made such a beautiful sound. The shower is hot with good water pressure and the kitchen had everything we needed! Extra pillows and blankets with lots of towels were available. There was just enough cell service to allow a quick check-in when it was a must, but spotty and slow enough to encourage putting our phones away. Loved it!

    Gwyneth2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We visited Sarah’s cottage in the winter and it did not disappoint! Even though the weather outside was chilly, the inside of the cottage was nice and warm thanks to the wood stove (which Sarah had going for us when we arrived!) It was wonderful falling asleep to the sound of the river. Thank you for sharing your cottage Sarah!

    Kyra2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing getaway experience. We spent most of the time indoors due to the low temperatures outside, but we truly enjoyed the view of the river, which is literally 10 steps away, the freshest air possible and the wood burning stove. There is plenty of wildlife in the area as well. We are looking forward to going there again in the summer time!

    Dzmitry2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location along a fast flowing river. The log cabin/cottage was super cozy. We loved hanging out by the woodstove

    Kevin2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's place is simple and cozy with an incredible view. We arrived to a warm, inviting cabin with the wood stove already going. Sarah was quick to respond to a few questions we had packing up the final morning. A perfect place for a quiet weekend away!

Welcome to the Stumble Inn, one of two original hotels on the shore of the Mississippi River in the village of Ferguson Falls. Built circa 1830, the Stumble Inn has been updated and converted into a charming, cozy large one bedroom cabin getaway.
The Stumble Inn is a rustic cabin located at the front of a shared property. The owners live on the property in a separate residence and are available during your stay. The cabin is located close to a road with a posted speed limit of 50kph, however we all know people don't always follow the speed limits. A charming log cabin with wood floors on the main level and carpeting in the large bedroom area. There is a large 12x20 deck complete with a patio set, lounge chairs and a propane BBQ. The fire pit is located between the cabin and the river for toasting and roasting summertime treats. The main living area has an open livingroom/dining area with a hide a bed couch and a comfy chaise lounger. The kitchen is completely stocked with all your cooking and serving dinnerware. The upstairs area is a spacious one bedroom with a king size bed, desk area, three dressers, and a sitting area. The three piece bathroom includes a toilet, shower and sink area with a large counter space.
Ferguson Falls is a small hamlet located in Lanark County on the Mississippi River. Ideal for fishing, biking, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, bird watching and enjoying nature. There are many golf courses and some hiking trails. Quaint areas closeby to visit include Carleton Place, Perth, and the famous Amish store in Balderson. Relaxing on the deck while bird and wildlife watching, and listening to the sounds of nature is a perfect way to start any day.
  • We had a wonderful stay at the Stumble Inn! Perfect place for a fall getaway. Relaxing and cozy at the cabin and close to many nearby towns for lovely country drives and exploring. Doug and Donna were exceptional hosts and welcomed us with an already lit fire and lots of chopped wood ready to go. We would highly recommend this cozy getaway!

    Nicole2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Donna's place was wonderful. The cabin itself is very cozy and comfortable, and the property it is located on is beautiful. Donna was very responsive, and she communicated exactly what we should expect during our stay. We spent time in Perth, which was very cute. We recommend staying at Donna's!

    Laura2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Donna and Doug are great hosts and the Stumble Inn has such character and history. The quiet and serenity was wonderful, sitting by the open fire and watch the Mississippi flow by, Donna has catered for everyone’s needs with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay, the Kingsize bed was so comfortable.

    Barrie2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • this is a wonderful rustic cabin right beside the river. There is peace and quiet in the country setting, sitting on the deck is so relaxing, watching the river flow gently by. Everything you need is there, the bedroom is large and comfortable. We would love to come back again next year for a getaway!

    Marian2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful way to step back in time for a beautiful, peaceful getaway. Loved feeling like we were a part of history in such a quaint, restored, very roomy cabin. Lots of beautiful small towns to visit in the area, and we especially enjoyed Carleton Place and Perth. Spent a lovely day too in Ottawa sightseeing, walking the Rideau Canal and seeing boats travel through the locks. Then crossed the river to Quebec and discovered the amazing Gatineau Park for a beautiful hike around Pink Lake. Could have stayed a couple more nights for sure!!

    Lori2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Perfect get away from the city, definitely would stay here again. Donna and Doug one of the best hosts I’ve experienced with Airbnb. Super comfortable and large king sized bed.

    Cameron2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • the view of the river is amazing donna as a host even betterand cant wait to come back for another stay

    Mackenzie2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • What an adorable cabin! My partner and I spent 3 nights at the Stumble Inn and had a great time. The kitchen is fully stocked along with a BBQ, and the bedroom space is amazing. My partner and I slept like babies in the comfy king sized bed, and enjoyed fishing on the river in the canoe (Lots of pike!). We visited Balderson’s cheese factory, Wheeler’s pancake house, and Maberly’s bakery (all within 30 minutes drive) on a rainy day, and spent an evening watching movies in the cabin during a storm. Definitely a perfect getaway! The nearby highway has some traffic on it first thing in the morning, but other than that, the area is so peacefully quiet. We loved it. Thanks again to Donna who was always available for any questions, tips or suggestions!

COVID-19 Update: Thank you for your interest in the Cozy Waterfront Granny Suite listing! Rental listings have been blocked at this time to follow the social distancing guidelines advised by Federal and Provincial governments. I look forward to unblocking dates and accommodating your booking requests as soon as we get through this global situation. Please note that if I have missed any dates I will only be accepting bookings if this crisis is over.
Your private waterfront lakeside suite offers a holiday that combines the best of both worlds; the hospitality and charm of a bed and breakfast; the experience of cottage life; and the complete privacy of your own fully equipped apartment attached to our home. Our attractive lakeside suite has a wonderful view of the lake from your private deck. As fall turns to winter the sounds of the loons on the lake give way to the howls of wolves and coyotes in the distance and the hoot of owls in the forest. Your private waterfront apartment has it's own bedroom with dressers, a closet, and a double bed; a living room with comfortable couches and a TV; a full ocean theme bathroom with a stand up shower and an old fashioned original vintage claw foot bathtub in the bedroom; a full kitchen with a fridge and freezer, table and chairs, a microwave/convection oven, toaster, 2- element hot plate, a small George Foreman grill, Kureg coffee maker, a crock pot, and access to a portable propane BBQ. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, pots and pans, cutlery, dish soap, and salt & pepper. Complimentary morning coffee and tea with milk or cream is provided. We also provide fresh bath towels, bed linens, and toiletries. (You are welcome to bring your own sheets etc. if you prefer). There is free internet access and a TV with a DVD player and large movie selection but no satellite TV. Please note that we also offer an interesting continental breakfast of local specialty foods for an additional charge - inquire at time of booking. If you are traveling we have everything you will need and we are glad to help out if you have forgotten anything!
This all Canadian picturesque location is "off the beaten path" and offers a private waterfront vista in a typical "cottage country" setting surrounded with natural beauty. It offers the best of both worlds with access to endless under an hour interesting road trips; is only 15-20 minutes away from the historical towns of Perth, Carleton Place, and Smiths Falls; and we are only 45 minutes to Merrickville and Ottawa, the Nation's Capital. Feel your stress melt away as you make your way to the end of a picturesque 1.5 kilometer nature filled private cottage road lined with split rail fences that winds it's way through a "mini boreal forest" and is home to deer, bears, wolves, coyotes, beavers, rabbits, hawks, and owls. The property is situated on a private point with a spectacular panoramic view of Mississippi Lake from the deck of your private suite and access to the lakefront and surrounding woodlands for hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice fishing, shoreline bonfires, and if conditions permit skating. Please note we are also 45 minutes to the Rideau Canal in Ottawa; the world’s longest skating rink. Lanark County is a beautiful and scenic world heritage destination and offers the best that country living has to offer close to a large city center. Of course our favorite local town is Perth set on the Tay River connected to the Rideau Lakes and Canal system. It is picturesque, has a rich history, and is home to impressive heritage stone buildings built by Scottish stone masons that house shops, specialty stores, restaurants, museums, flea markets, and three live theaters. Perth has just hosted filming of 2 CBC miniseries and has been voted the most beautiful town in Ontario many times over as well as the best place to retire in Canada by Chatelaine magazine. Our location also offers under an hour access to endless Lanark County winter destinations that include Calabogie Peaks ski resort, the K & P hiking and snowmobiling trail, cross country skiing at Murphy’s Point Provincial Park, Timber Run Golf Course, Wheeler’s Pancake House, and the Mill of Kintail, and one of a kind shopping in Perth, Balderson, Westport, and the popular Kilborn’s on the Rideau at Newboro. I am a huge fan of the area having moved here from Ottawa over 20 years ago and can help guests with info on the area and recommendations. I also provide extensive brochures and maps on local attractions in your suite. For more information (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Lanark County Tourism and the Seven Wonders of Lanark County. You can also email me for up to date info on local activities at the time of your stay or if I can answer any questions you have before you book. WINTER ACTIVITIES Local winter activities include: * Marked snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and hiking trails through the forest at your doorstep. * Less than an hour to the Nations Capital and the longest skating rink in the world on the Rideau Canal. * Brunch at the popular Wheelers Maple Sugar Bush Pancake House in MacDonald's Corners featuring log building with real stone fireplace, maple syrup museum, farm tool museum, and farm animals including llamas. * Great restaurants, shopping, micro-breweries, and artist community in nearby Perth voted prettiest town in Ontario many times. * The Good Food Tour - every weekend in nearby Almonte, ON * Ice fishing, lakeside bonfires, stargazing, winter bird feeder watching. * Winter activities at nearby Murphy's Point Provincial Park. * Option of downhill skiing at Calabogie Peaks and Mount Pakenham.

  • A fantastic cabin with everything you need, but still maintaining a rustic feel. Great privacy and a very homey feel to the whole place. The check in process was seamless. Tiffany provided prompt communication and was very accommodating with our last-minute booking resulting from another hosts' cancellation. I can't recommend this place highly enough - both for the accommodations and for their gracious host.

The experience was really cozy and welcoming! Just a head's up that the bathroom is shared with the other airbnb room.

  • Faith and Richard are wonderful hosts and lovely people. The room was beautiful and serene, and the house so gorgeous. The bed is extremely comfortable, made up with quality linens. And the space super quiet and private. This is amazing value. Book it, because you will be so pleased you did. • Amazing place that exceeded our expectations. Perfect cottage to escape the city for a bit and relax in a beautiful environment. Julie was accommodating and had great recommendations. Would definitely come back on a regular basis.

    François2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • You could not find a better cottage to stay in! My friends and I stayed at Julie's house during a ski trip weekend and her house was impeccable and very modern. There were lots of modern luxuries (e.g. towel heater, touch-activated kitchen faucet, a beautiful rain shower), as well as thoughtful finishing touches like makeup wipes for women. The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking and had a wide variety of spices, tea, and condiments. The covered deck was perfect to sit on with a cup of coffee and a blanket. And at night, the fire in the basement was perfect to sit by (wood included!). Julie was a friendly and an attentive host, and was excellent at communicating in a timely fashion and making sure our stay was going well. I would come back in a heartbeat!

  • Beautiful space inside and outside!

  • Our stay at Julie and Tony’s was such a great retreat. We had a great time walking along the maintained trails and hanging out in the very comfortable cabin. There was plenty of space and extra comforts, as well as a very well stocked kitchen which made our stay that much more enjoyable. Thanks again!

    Andrew2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Julie's place is amazing. Check in was simple, the home is completely brand new with heated bathroom floors and towel racks. Everything is so cozy from the wood stove to the comfy plush blankets all over the house. Nice and secluded, we had the most relaxing weekend watching movies on DVDs in front of the fire. 10/10

    Michael2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of 4 plus one dog had a great weekend at Julie's place. We enjoyed sledding, hiking, and curling up inside with some board games and puzzles. Highly recommend for a winter retreat!

    David2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay! Quick communication with the hosts, easy check in and gorgeous lodge! The indoor fireplace was so nice for the winter, as well as the heated floors and towel rack! Very nicely decorated, comfortable and useable space. Would love to go back in the summer to experience that too!

    Kaylene2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The home was a very peaceful space and the property was gorgeous and fun to explore. We appreciated all of the thoughtful touches in the home and felt welcomed in by Julie and Tony's hospitality. Thanks again!

Our cottage is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Just a quick 45 min drive from downtown Ottawa - ready to enjoy year round.
Our cottage is located on Pretties Island - 10 minutes off the highway between Carleton Place and Perth. The road is accessible and maintained year round. This makes our cozy cottage the perfect getaway from the city. Enjoy a private and treed in property. Our neighbours are only around in the summer, so winter is especially calm and quiet. The cottage is equipped for year round enjoyment. Heated by baseboards and a cozy propane fireplace. Beautiful, mature trees provide lots of shade to keep the cottage cool in the summertime. There are 2 bedrooms. One with a queen sized bed. The other with a single over double bunk bed. There's also a pull out couch in the living room. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need to cook or bbq - pots, pans, cutlery, glasses, coffee maker, tea pot, microwave, stove! The cottage does run on well water (and is great for drinking!!), but bring your own bottled water if desired. There is one full bathroom with shower/tub insert. Spend your days outside on the deck, or by the dock on the water. Swimming is great on the Mississippi but the lake does have zebra mussels, so bring water shoes if needed. Feel free to use our paddle boards and life jackets! In the wintertime, take a walk on the frozen lake, or borrow our snowshoes. Even bring your own ice fishing gear or cross country skis.

  • A lovely location in the heart of Perth, paired with Marcel's wonderful hospitality. Definitely a great place to stay.

    Eric2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Marcel was absolutely amazing. He was very sociable and kind and the house was extremely clean and cozy. Great location and Marcel was the life of the party!

    Ali2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Marcel was a great host who went out of his way to make my stay there comfortable.

    Neil2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • I did not end up staying at Marcel's place because my plans changed last minute. However, I would highly recommend booking with Marcel based on my experience with him as a host. Leading up to my stay he was very communicative and responded promptly. He really made the entire process simple and stress free. I can't speak on behalf of the place itself but based on my communication experience with Marcel I expect nothing but outstanding hospitality. I highly recommend Marcel's place and would stay again (or I guess for the first time!) with him if I am ever back in Perth.

    Marisa2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Marcel was a great host, even when he was travelling out of town he made sure there was someone we could access in person if we had questions. Perfect spot to stay, was easy to walk to restuarants, pubs, Stuart park, farmers market and more. I would definitely stay again!

    Jill2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at Marcel’s for a wedding! Perfect location in Perth, the wedding was at Code’s Mill, 5 min walk away. Marcel was very friendly - we weren’t there long but it was perfect for us.

  • I was wary of our first airb&b that would not be a full apartment to ourselves, but it was easily one of the best experiences I've had. Marcel is helpful, friendly and considerate, and very knowledgeable avout Perth

This is a totally private, self contained apartment with full kitchen. The house is a heritage property in historic Perth, Ontario. It's location is steps from the downtown area and the beautiful Stewart Park. The kitchen is brand new as are the 2 queen size beds. The apartment is air conditioned, has wifi and cable tv with Apple TV (Netflix etc). You will have the entire upstairs apartment with private entrance. Indoor parking for one vehicle is included. Very cozy and quiet.
The apartment is very cozy with a European feel to it
We are right next to Stewart park and the centre of town ...the best location
  • Wonderful place to stay in Perth. Very clean with plenty of kitchenware to use. Walking distance to the downtown area. John was a great host!

    Cory2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Johns place is probably one of the best Airbnb stays that I have ever seen! My parents stayed here the night and they loved it. The complimentary bottle of wine was a great touch. As well as my mom loved your beautiful paint work. :)

    Shanelle2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Second stay here in a week. Great spot - Will stay here again if I’m back in Perth.

    Annabelle2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very comfortable and clean apartment in the heart of Perth - only minutes to everything by foot - with parking in the garage. The beds are comfortable, lovely linen, very cozy comfortable living room, and a well-outfitted kitchen. Lots of little extras, which we really appreciated. The host is very responsive to requests, and answers all questions within minutes. I highly recommend this place, except to those with mobility issues (about 10+ steps up to get into the apartment). Thanks John!

    Annabelle2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • John's place is my go to place whenever I am staying in Perth. Every visit is 5 star plus. I always look forward to returning to this wonderfully bright, sparkling clean, welcoming space. Highly recommend!

    Daintry2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • John's place was BEAUTIFUL - more so than the pictures conveyed - and a comfortable, cozy space for our short stay in Perth. Ours was a last-minute visit, and John was very prompt in his replies, which was helpful for us. His space was in a great location to be able to walk everywhere, and we were grateful for the garage parking. The bed (we only used one of the two rooms) was very comfortable for both my husband and myself. A wonderful stay!

    Tali2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • John was a fantastic host. He replied promptly to all our email questions. The place was very clean and check in was easy. We loved the extra touches in the kitchen which saved us from having to buy the basics on arrival. The bottle of wine was also much appreciated! Fantastic experience in Perth - we have already recommended this place to our family.

This little gem of a spot is on an island in the middle of the Mississippi River. The sound of the rapids will lull you to sleep in your magical tent perched right over the water! With all of the modern conveniences including hot water, outdoor shower, bar fridge, wifi and well appointed outdoor kitchen, you will transition seamlessly from swimming right at your doorstep to cooking a gourmet meal in your own outdoor paradise.
You will park your car and walk across a bridge to your private island. Amenities include the fire pit , outdoor kitchen and a very comfortable outdoor lounge area.
This little area is called Sheridan Rapids and we are a small community of about 6 families who all know each other and revel in the natural beauty that surrounds us. Great for casual strolls on backroads through farmland and bush lot combinations
  • Absolutely amazing experience overall. Better than the pictures can show. Such an amazing getaway, words can’t even describe. We will 100% be going back :)

    Sarah2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the perfect little get away if you are looking for somewhere to get outside and relax. We loved having our own little private island for the weekend! The views are amazing and falling asleep to the sound of the rapids was incredible!

    Nick2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem La Isla is - we felt like we were in paradise. It's so enchanting, thoughtful, inviting, comfortable, creative, and ultimately peaceful. Thank you, Liseanne and Erik, for creating this treasure!

    Faith And Richard2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • It was the best choice I made this year! I didn’t expect the place to be that great (way better than the picture). Just make sure to bring condiments such as salt and pepper if you are going to bbq, and make sure to close the 2-layered tent curtain to keep warm in the morning. Definitely willing to come back to this mini paradise next year.

    Ji Won2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • As magical as it appears on screen, the reality of being immersed in La Isla continually magnified an endless supply of magical wonders. What a delight to experience the lush surroundings and accommodation -- both are caring artistry at its finest!

    Susan2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • La Isla is exactly what you need if you are looking to get away from it all and surround yourself with nature and tranquility! This is definitey glamping at its best! The outdoor couch is great for soaking up some sun, and taking in the beautiful view of the lake. The outdoor kitchen has everything you could need, and the tent is spectacular- super cozy! I will definitely be back :)

    Corey2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in this natural setting. Erik and Liseanne are charming and responsive. This place is good for the body and the soul. All this nature and the superb installation of our guests have made our stay a moment of pure happiness. Thank you for everything. Everyone should live a moment like this. Just perfect.

    Jerome2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • La Isla is truly a little slice of paradise! The tent itself is comfy and roomy with lots of indoor seating for when the bugs come out at night. Also lots of outdoor seating areas to relax, nap, and enjoy the gorgeous views! La Isla is well equipped - definitely my kind of "camping"! Some tips - there is WiFi access, but you should note there isn't unlimited WiFi in the country - so come prepared with your shows and podcasts downloaded ahead of time so you don't use it all up! Or bring a book or two (my preference!) so you can truly recharge in nature. I didn't get any cell signal, but my husband's network was just fine. I also recommend water shoes for the river like the previous reviewers have - we're glad we took that advice!

  • We were absolutely thrilled with our stay at Keron's this past weekend. The rooms were sparkling clean, bright and large, and in such a lovely setting. Keron was very responsive and even contacted us a couple of times over the weekend to make sure everything was okay. Seeing the beautiful property, I think a late spring or summer stay might have to be on our calendar. Thanks again Keron.

This Earthship-inspired building is entirely self-sustaining. This piece of land acts as a prototype for our full-scale community. On the 1.3 acre lot, you will enjoy more than what the building itself has to offer. You will also have access to the organic pool, mandala garden & frog pond, as well as the Holistic Chicken Coop/Greenhouse, tree fort, and a trampoline in the miniature fairy forest. All first-time guests will be greeted upon arrival, and will enjoy a comprehensive tour of the home & surrounding land. This will provide you with all the information you need to care for the home as it cares for you, and to accept the responsibility that comes with living off-grid. While staying in this off-grid home, we ask that you understand, innerstand & respect the fact that the building is powered by the Earth. Please turn lights off when they’re not needed, and unplug electrical devices while not in use. We just renovated this lovely little space on the water in a very special corner of the world, Sheridans Rapids. The house itself is up on piers and nestled among giant cedars giving you the feeling of being in a treehouse. It is on a piece of property that boasts a meandering river on 3 sides and also has an island. The entire side facing the river has floor to ceiling windows and glass doors making your experience very unique.
The master bedroom has a King sized bed. The first loft has a King sized bed and is accessible by a loft ladder. The second loft has a Queen and is also accessible by a ladder. (While the lofts are really cool, they were designed to do in a pinch and are not full bedrooms.) There is also a pull out couch with a Queen, so in total you can sleep 8 people comfortably. This is a truly unique space making you feel like you are quite in touch with nature.

  • Place was exactly what we were looking for. Small and cozy with fantastic views. The hosts went above and beyond in their hospitality towards us and our children. When we're back in the area, we will definitely be checking it out again!

  • Heather and Ric were great hosts. We had a very relaxing long weekend at their garage loft and in the nearby town of Perth. The space was great and they really went above and beyond, supplying muffins, bagels, juices, coffee…

    Sean2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Heather and Rick are more than hosts, they treat you as family and share all the amenities whether is their paddle boat or the fireplace. We really enjoyed staying with them, saw a lots of animals and a breathtaking starry night!

  • Absolutely wonderful!

    Janet2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely private suite above a garage so very quiet living space. Two bedrooms with double beds and a pullout sofa that accommodated our 4 adults well. Large central room for meals and hanging out. Located among other cottages so not very private outside the unit. Hosts have a dock you can use for a boat, canoe or kayak. We did all three. Bbq is on the deck. Three towns 15 minutes away with good dining options. Heather(host) is delightful and happy to assist with anything. We plan to stay again when we can. Super hosts!!

    Dave2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Heather and Ric are wonderful host. They really do anything to make your stay enjoyable. One of the good things about this place is that there are two buildings and you will stay in a private two-bedroom building so you have full privacy. The neighborhood is great, lovely and friendly people. Miss it already, definitely go back and recommend it to anyone. It has also a place to make fire just close to the lake which gives you a memorable moment you wont forgot.

  • Love this place. Everything was great from the host to the little touch’s. Only thing I would change was the firm mattress. Thank you for a great stay.

  • Andrea and Shane were excellent hosts, there place has many amenities and is conveniently located walking distance to shopping and restaurants in downtown Perth.

  • The house is ideally located near the centre of town, so you’re never too far away from most things on foot, making this a good place if you plan on exploring Perth. Everything we thought we would need (and then some) was available on hand, and Andrea had made herself available should we have questions. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom clean, and the house well-furnished. All told, it was an enjoyable stay.

  • Fantastic space to get comfortably away. It was easy to reach, located just outside the main road of Perth. We had a big snowfall during our trip, and the laneway was plowed before any of us were up to even hear the truck. The space is really neat. It is an educational space during the week, so there are lots of neat things around the house to touch and interact with, including traditional kids toys, but also elements brought inside from nature (birds nests, plant cuttings and pieces, even some small animal bones). All this is to encourage a sense of wonder and exploration in kids. This extends to outside where the yard includes several different areas to creatively play. Our kids were too young to do much, but older kids would be entertained for sure. We had two just toddlers in our group, and the space inside was well equipped for them, including baby gates, and a crib. There is one room on the main floor if anyone has trouble with multiple stairs; there is also a good sized bathroom on the main floor. If you've got a group of 2-5 couples with kids, this is a great space. Close to Perth and all the amentities you might have forgotten from home, but far enough away that you feel you're on a break. It's adjacent to Hwy 7 and a train line, but the noises were very minimal. A nice surprise to look out and see the train, rather than a disruption.

    Kristin2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect get away with our kids over the holidays. There was a fire pit for marshmallows, play structures for the kids, and bunnies! A perfect family adventure not too far from home.

    Meghan2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Overall truly a great place to escape with a family - both young and old. Has everything for kids from games, puzzles, toys to endless things for them to discover and have fun with outside. A very spacious place, we comfortably slept 7 adults and 2 kids, along with a roomy main floor with multiple family rooms to sit back and relax. Can't say enough positive things about this place, a truly special space!

    Sean2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very inspiring, playful and restful space! a very beautiful experience!

    Amy2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lots of room for a group of 8 of us to spend a weekend with all the amenities we needed. A great place to escape to!

    Siobhan2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This unassuming place is a well-kept secret of quaintness, cleanliness, and lots of space. We were only 4 people visiting town for a wedding but, with the 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, large kitchen, dining room, and living room, 8 people would be very comfortable. We had no children with us, but the set up is IDEAL for kids and their parents (wish we'd brought some kids with us!) The place had been freshly cleaned when we arrived, and Robyn happened to be onsite and gave us a quick tour around the grounds. She is 5-star friendly and welcoming! The kitchen and bathrooms had all the must-have and nice-to-have amenities, including bedding and towels. It's an old farmhouse with addition(s) put on so there are some stairs to navigate. The lower bedroom and bathroom is ideal for anyone who can't do stairs. We were there in September,so didn't need the heat or AC, but it looks like there are portable AC units and baseboard heating. The only noise we heard at night was trains going by (and it was just the sound of them running on the tracks, no whistles) and roosters in the morning! Robyn was quick to reply to all my questions, including providing some restaurant recommendations, and she did a quick check in by messaging to make sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants a country-setting retreat that is just a few minutes away from downtown Perth.

  • Lovely place and nice quiet location. Comfortable beds and tons of space. Perfect for families

    Steven2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I really enjoyed our stay! The house is beautiful and we loved the lay out of the kitchen and living area. There was plenty of room and the bedrooms were comfortable. The toys, games and play structure were well used by my young niece and nephew. The kitchenware and utensils were a bit light and the many of the light switches don't work, which made things a bit tricky the first night, but all in all we made it work! I loved that guests are encouraged to reduce their waste and explore natural setting. Robyn was quick to respond and answer questions, which was much appreciated! Thank you again for a wonderful stay!

  • Asma is a very good host. She responds very quickly. Very modern and stylish cottage. We were 4 adults, 3 kids and one infant. It is a tight fit but if you are just there to sleep and eat it is manageable. Overall experience was good.

  • Had a great time at Asma's cottage. The place is cozy and well appointed, perfect for a family with a couple little ones. The kids loved the bunk beds. The cottage is about as close to the beach and the playground as you can get. Screened-in canopy with string lights on the deck was perfect for nighttime drinks while the kids slept.

This rustic, handmade treehouse is built right over the rapids of the mighty Mississippi river in Lanark County, in the Canadian province of Ontario. The glamping treehouse is nestled among oaks and cedars, 22 feet off the ground at its highest point
The Treehouse is built almost exclusively from natural and reclaimed materials. It has it's own unique look and feel and has often been described as a little slice of paradise.
Due to its high concentration in maple trees, Lanark County is also called the 'Maple Syrup Capital of Ontario'. The county is home to over 100 lakes, rivers and waterfalls, and the coastline is speckled with coves and pristine beaches. The region is a paradise for outdoor fans who like to go biking, hiking and engage in adventurous water sports activities such as rafting, canoeing, kayaking and more. Erik is co-owner in a couple of restaurants in Perth. One is called Fiddleheads Bar and Grill and is located at the corner of Wilson and Herriott St. overlooking Stewart Park and the Tay River. ( www.fiddleheadsbarandgrill.com) The other one is a Southern Style outdoor restaurant Called Wildfire BBQ and Smokehouse (www.wildfirebbq.ca) and is located at 65 Craig St. right beside the downtown Tim Horton's (not the one on Hwy 7) If Erik is not at the Treehouse to greet you upon arrival, it is likely he is at one of the two restaurants.
  • This place is beautiful and much more than we expected. Words can not describe the serenity and natural beauty of the area and the cozy, quaint and eclectic charm of the treehouse. Going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the river is such a cleansing and comforting feeling! Erik was readily available and hospitable, ensuring our stay was comfortable. We’ll definitely be back🤗.

  • Great place to get away for the weekend!

    Jodi2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the place! It was so cool and eclectic. The view and sound of the river was amazing, I slept so well next to the window. Wish we could have stayed long but we definitely be back

    Laura2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Erik's treehouse was a hit with everyone - the decor and building is so creative and unique, we were always finding new things to marvel over. It's quite spacious. The river location was lovely - but be sure to bring bug spray! Erik was very friendly and we definitely enjoyed our stay.

    Carissa2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We booked the tree house for a girl's weekend getaway. We were five and all had an amazing time! The tree house has so much charm! It is so peaceful being so close to the rapids. We took the short walk down the road for a swim, which we all recommend. The only downfall was we must have put too much water in the chemical toilet because we could always smell it, and we ran out of toilet paper the last morning - 2 rolls for 5 women drinking wasn't enough :) We all loved our time together and the tree house made it that much more special. We may make this an annual trip!

    Kristen2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Unique experience. Please be careful with directions. Ways took us 10 minutes before reaching the final destination on inside road called Hunter side road which was full of holes and had a huge sink hole. Our vehicle was stuck and took us 2 hours to get towing and $200.

    Reggie2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • It‘s an adventure to stay at the treehouse. Go for it! Explore the surrounding or relax in the hammock!

    Rita2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse exceeded our expectations! It was a very cool place for our family to spend my son's 7th birthday. The treehouse was very cool with so many creative touches and the outdoor porch outside of the treehouse overlooking the rapids was spectacular. My favorite part was sitting on the outside of the treehouse - the constant sound of rushing water makes it a perfect getaway. Inside was very cool and it was much cleaner that I expected it to be given that it is a treehouse. I was amazed that I didn't see a single sign of a mouse the whole time. We followed the instructions carefully and made sure to close the door quickly behind us to avoid bugs, but with a 7- and 9-year-old there was a lot of running in and out. We did not have a ton of bugs until the last day, and even then they did not bother us at all because they congregated upstairs and we were all sleeping downstairs. We were there at a particularly hot time and it was still comfortable for sleeping because there are plenty of fans. The swimming spot we were pointed to was one of the best we've ever swam in! It is a river, so it is rocky, so bring your water shoes, but amazing swimming. The water was clear and super warm, with light currents that the kids enjoyed riding on. It was shallow in some spots and deep in some, which was perfect for our kids. We also enjoyed the hammock outside the treehouse and having fires. Our kids loved playing int he rushing water near the treehouse, too. Another bright spot of our trip was that on Friday morning, we went out to breakfast at Wheeler's Pancake House (we were in maple county after all), and were surprised to find that it also had a museum and playground. The playground was extra special because it had a zipline that the kids loved playing on. There was also a Native American teepee that you could go in and the world-record holding largest collection of maple items. We really enjoyed checking them all out and watching the video on the history of maple in the area and how syrup is produced. The place even had a few animals you could visit. Another neat thing nearby is Purdon Conservation area - during a two-week period, a huge orchid colony blooms there and we caught the tail end of it. Perth is about 22 minutes away and worth a visit if you like architecture - many stone buildings were constructed by Scottish immigrant stone masons shortly after the war of 1812. Many if the farm houses you see in the pristine countryside around the treehouse also were build of stone. We enjoyed the beautiful views everywhere we went. Another thing to note is there is no cell service - so bring your maps! (There was also one in the treehouse.) Erik and Liseanne were great hosts - we forgot to buy coffee and Erik gave us some. We also forgot marshmallows and found he had left some maple marshmallows, which we roasted, and are now obsessed. ;) If you are outdoorsy, you will love the treehouse! I am a nature lover but am probably the member of my family that is least comfortable with "campiness" and found that for 3 nights the treehouse was a great time!

Come and enjoy 100 feet of beautiful lakefront at our rustic cottage and bunkhouse located on Mississippi Lake, in the Ottawa Valley. This is the perfect location for families or groups looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway. Please note: We book 1 week stays in July & August, check-in/out on Saturdays.
The property is quiet and private as it's located near the end of the road. The rental includes: firewood, BBQ (we supply propane), a canoe, a kayak, 2 youth kayaks, life jackets for youth to adult (5 years+), clothesline, deck cooler (2 compartments), and some outdoor games.
Very quiet neighborhood as the property is located at the end of the road on a private shoreline. Great sense of community on the lake, and our neighbors are friendly.
  • Absolutely lovely property and lakefront! The cottage is very well kept and perfectly clean, with all the amenities you could hope for! Very comfortable and easy to heat in the October cold. Any concerns were responded to quickly and effectively. Absolutely fantastic place to bring your family or friends!

  • We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It would be great to come back in the summer months so we could use the lake!

  • Christine's place is a gorgeous spot. The vibe is very modern and rustic and has kept the old charm of the building. There were a really great amount of seating and relaxation area's all over the property and everything was thought of and provided for. We had one of the best family stays ever! Christine is very responsive and a wonderful person to talk with! I couldn't have asked for better.

    Hannah2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • I spent the week here with my wife and pet dog. Christine was a great host and communication was easy and in a timely manner. The place was exactly as advertised. If you are looking for a comfortable and peaceful stay on the water experiencing the cottage life, this is the place. Highly recommended for couples or groups.

    Andrew2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. Our son was getting married in Carleton Place so we chose your cottage for the location and amenities. As soon as we set foot on the property, we fell in love with it and called it our home. We were all adults except for 1 four-year-old child who kept telling us “this is the best day and I love you”. It was also her first experience sleeping in a bunkie in the top bunk bed that she shared with her grandmother and bottom with her grandfather! The beds we very comfortable with warm bedding and rooms were spacious. The pillows were plenty and we did resist using the extra as mufflers on the snorers. In previous reviews, it says the cottage had everything and fully stocked. We really did not know what that meant so we brought some of our own things which was already supplied. We thought the pots might be too small to cook for a large crowd so we brought some of our own. We can confirm there are several large pots and everything you need to cook or serve with. There was plenty of large bowls to offer a variety of salads and most of them could be covered with its own lid. The coffee cups range from small to large. That was a bonus to some of us, as heavy coffee drinkers got the small cups so the rest of had a chance to have some coffee before the pot was empty. There was ample seating for everyone whether you were in or out doors. We were taken by surprise when ground coffee, raw sugar, spices, cleaning supplies, fire wood, propane tank for the barbecue, lighters, skewers at the fire pit was all supplied! The outhouse as an extra bathroom facility was a big hit and added to some great conversations. We chuckled at the thought the guys could use the lake and John on the spot as their bathroom to get ready for the wedding but the females used it as well for convenience and for bragging rights that they were roughing the great out doors. The property has the nicest and cleanest fire pits we have come across. We enjoyed sitting in comfort and gathering around the fire place, many times over, during our stay. The canoes, kayaks, anchored blow up water pad, and dock were all wonderful and we were extremely glad we had a chance to use them. We were immediately welcomed upon our arrival and were pleasantly surprised by Christine and Kyle’s generous and thoughtful gifts for us to enjoy and celebrate our son’s wedding. Christine, your place provided us with plenty of room where our family could come together and create so many wonderful memories. We are a family who love the outdoors and your place has so much to offer. There was never a dull moment and our time went so fast that it was hard for us to pack up and leave.

    Mike2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Christine's place is exactly as she describes it. And there was a perfect amount of room for all 8 of us to enjoy time inside and out. Having a dock to park my boats was perfect to go fishing. The neighbourhood was super quiet too. Thanks again Christine!

    Steven2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and two kids (5&7) with Brother and his wife and two kids (6&9) with our parents (mid 70’s) all had a great week at this great cottage. Great cottage steps from the water in a quite bay. Bunkie was amazing with nice breeze at night and a play table for kids. I often shared a bunk with my 5 year old and had a great sleep. Main cottage was everything we needed including a separate area that can be closed off to keep noise down from anyone who fell asleep early (grandpa) Boat launch is easy access and really close. I did not find a Marina with gas on the lake but there is a gas station nearby to fill up your jerry can. Caught a few bass using kayak provided, right in ebbs bay. You and your family won’t be disappointed

    Mike2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Christine's place is the perfect summer getaway. Great for multiple families or a larger group. Excellent water access to spend the days in the lake. We loved everything about our stay and hope to go back next year. We got super lucky with beautiful weather and since there is no a/c the cottage was well equipped with fans for the one hot night we did have. Would highly recommend!

  • Faith & Richard were very kind, quick and responsive. We appreciated their local tips and suggestions - if you’re looking for a quiet and beautiful place to stay they are highly recommended, we appreciated all the little touches including having water and tea available in the room for us, the room was decorated beautifully and the candles in the fireplace really set for a calm and serene atmosphere in the evening. It’s close to the centre of Perth and walking distance to some awesome food. Would recommend for a couples getaway for sure!

  • I had a very nice one night stay while visiting my son in Perth and then heading on to Ottawa. The room was spacious, the bed and pillows were comfortable, and the shower water was nice and hot. And a good location close to the center of town. I plan on staying again in the future when I visit Perth again. Thank you, Faith and Richard, for providing me with a nice place to stay.

  • This home is filled with beautiful things, centrally located to downtown, but also quiet. We had everything we needed. The bed is comfortable and the room we had is very dark at night which my husband loved for a good night's sleep.

  • What a cozy and charming place to stay! I was delighted with the location of this lovely and affordable room - in a character home on a quiet street just a few blocks from downtown. Faith and Richard provided a clean, peaceful, warm environment that I truly enjoyed. I especially loved the heritage quilts and beautiful artwork!

  • Heather is a great host, she was very accommodating to my needs. If you like the quiet of country living, this place is perfect. And the next towns are 10 and 20 min away with all the amenities one wants.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Heather's A beautiful home and welcoming stay I would definitely book again

    Andy2018-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I have been very fortunate in being able to secure full apartments in the last few airbnb's that we've become dependant on. Heather offered us a bedroom only. We were both taken aback, and skeptical as to if this small space would work for us, after having so much liberty. Well let me tell you. Heather knows how to host. We grew to understand that her entire home was available to us. I made many full meals, did loads of laundry, as well, she opened up her dining room to Ed so that he could study late into the night every night for the week we stayed with her. Heather has a wickedly dry sense of humour that we adore, and despite working 12 hour shifts, she was always friendly and generous. I would highly recommend that you make a reservation to enjoy this household.

The Hielans is a hilltop Victorian gothic heritage house in the heart of Lanark. Built by the Caldwell family c. 1865, it survived the devastating fire of 1959 and is a historic reminder of the village’s legacy. It is a grand home with incredible atmosphere, making it a unique place to stay while visiting the Highlands, be it to attend a wedding, golf, go antiquing, visit a sugar shack, explore nature or seek out the supernatural.
Please be understanding that this is a 150 year old house that derives its very special energy and charm from its age. Accordingly, be aware that the house may show signs of being a work in progress. Guests will be advised of any potential work that may be ongoing around the property during their stay (e.g. exterior painting).
The Ottawa Valley has many charming towns and villages to explore. The house is positioned between Perth and Calabogie in the heart of Lanark Highlands and is a great jumping off point for many outdoor activities (canoeing, kayaking, swimming, hiking, snowboarding/skiing, motorbiking, sledding). Sugar bushes and county fairs abound. Local businesses are independently owned and operated. Everything is haunted. There are many marvels for curious minds to discover and enjoy.
  • Had a few spooky experiences while staying in the King Suite. The house has a lot of atmosphere and mystery.

    Katharine2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • As soon as you arrive at Northern Gothic you can feel the warm and inviting energy in the space. The rooms are beautifully appointed in a style keeping with the gothic nature of the architecture. Luxurious modern washrooms, and comfortable beds make for a relaxing stay on the stunning property. Calypso is a thoughtful and considerate host who was able to direct us to local sights. Looking forward to our next stay at Northern Gothic!

    Marisa2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Northern Gothic King Suite was a perfect getaway for my partner and I. We stepped back in time and it really felt like we were surrounded by spirits (which is just what we were looking for). This place is hauntingly beautiful & very, very comfortable. If you need to escape the ordinary, book here with confidence.

    Amy2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Without a doubt the finest establishment I've been to yet anywhere in Ontario. If you're into local history, unique aesthetics, charming locales, and extremely high quality and welcoming spots, this is the place. Calypso has outdone herself with everything from her kindness, friendliness and hospitality to the astounding attention to detail, overwhelming vibes and beautiful restoration of the house and property. The home has a personality of its own, and even without the surrounding village and area, an entire week could be spent inside alone exploring and learning about the property and it's history. Never have I stayed at such a perfect establishment, I would give it 6 stars out of 5 if I could! Will most certainly recommend to anyone who is into the vibe and aesthetic, and will be happily and eagerly returning.
